In any case, I would think infecting more rats would be a good idea. Not only are they useful for gathering biomass, but when the time comes, they're monsters at infecting people and being hard to treat.

Identifying restaurants and using them as areas to spread infection could be a good way to increase the biomass reserves.

I seem to recall a certain flatworm would get inside of a slug host, then have the slug climb to the top of a tall plant, and the flatworm would begin to pulse visibly in the slug's antennae, swelling them providing an easily-spotted and juicy morsel for any birds flying overhead.
