    You are an answer.

That is all that you are. You are a collection of ideas, a bundle of possible responses to a situation where those of a mundane nature are helpless to stop a dire event taking place. They have no hope. All that they can hope to do is tilt their heads back and scream up at the sky for help, praying that someone, somewhere, might be able to offer assistance.

You are the answer to their prayers. Perhaps you're the answer they've been looking for or perhaps you will take as much from them as you give or perhaps you will turn their lives into living nightmares. Perhaps you will raise these poor folk, crying for assistance, to the level of kings or perhaps you will maintain a balance or perhaps you shall be their doom. You are an answer, but how you answer them is up to you.

The scene. A dark, dreary, stormy day. Grey sky. Pouring rain. Rocky beach to a flooded river. A young man clinging to a small island in the middle of the rushing water, clinging on to it for his dear life. Moments from being swept away. Two dozen men and women, children and elders, standing by the river's edge. They're screaming in anger and fear and sorrow. They're screaming at each other and at the sky. Screaming for someone to do something. Screaming for deliverance.

You have a single Miracle at your disposal at this moment in time. A Miracle is a supernatural event that can affect a small community of individuals. How you wish to use it is up to you.

You have been called. You must answer with this Miracle that you have at your disposal. So, make your choice. What are you going to do?

My miracle? My one miracle to affect a small community?

Happiness. Unending happiness for all in the community. Whatever form they find happiness in, be it solace or friendship, they find it. It sounds roneryfag, I know, but that's all I ever really wanted in life: Happiness.

Oh, and a fucking shitload of money. But that falls under happiness.
    >> Anonymous 02/11/10(Thu)20:23 No.8037535
I teach them empathy. Logic, by itsself, is not enough; consider the history of psychology, for instance. a form of "logic" was used to justify lobotomies, eugenics, and the worst forms of social policy in the last two centuries - while logic is good, it must be accompanied by empathy.
    >> Plasm !q2KCQhdMOM 02/11/10(Thu)20:25 No.8037591
Like a tribe possessed, they suddenly choke back tears of anger and sorrow and their eyes are filled with a new flame. Standing there and suffering from emotions will do nothing. They have to do something themselves - no one else will help them.

Not letting confuse hinder his new, improved mind, the endangered young man moves to find a stronger handhold amongst the rocks, trying to survive for longer while the tribesmen look around for resources and begin to tear long grasses from the earth and strip ivy from the trees, trying to conjure up some method of reaching him, or give him something to grasp.

Finally, a rudimentry rope is crafted by the tribesmen and cast out into the water time and time again, as the young man fumbles to grab at it without falling from the rock. Finally, the makeshift rope is grabbed and the boy begins to climb along it, towards the shore.

Just over half way, the ivy snaps, unable to support his weight as it is battered by the tides. The boy's brains are scattered over a rock and his carcass is swept down the river.

The tribe of logic simply stares before it turns away, without shedding a single tear. With one less tribe member, efficiency decreases. Especially a young man such as him. However, life goes on.

You are now presented with a choice.

You can either choose to Communicate with one individual in the area that you are aware of and influence him in whatever you wish. By speaking with him through his dreams, by causing visions or by implanting thoughts he considers to be his own.
Or, you can sit back and observe.

    Your choice.

You don't seem to understand that pure logic does nothing of the sort.
It requires evidence, without the sway of personal bias.

The word 'logic' and the actuality are two very different things.
A misinformed human can easily use the word to attempt justification of many ineffective things.

Empathy is also a function that can be accomplished by logic: society is a survival advantage, preserving society increases your quality of life.
And if the error is a case of lack-of-information, logic will allow humans to find that information rapidly.
(After the first few lobotomies, they'll likely see that it is an ineffective treatment.)

The second son of the leading family is implanted with new thoughts, that encourage curiosity and the expansion of knowledge. He begins to observe as things take place around him. He begins to scrawl images down on slates that he starts to collect, recording information, putting down images of fruits and dying men, to indicate that the fruits are poisonous, putting down images of animals and meat or dying men, to indicate which animals are food or dangerous.

Slowly, the strange activity attracts the attention of other tribal members, who consider such an activity to be pointless. He is wasting time on these images when he could be hunting or gathering. He merely states that it seems to be the logical thing to do - so that the information can be passed down to the next generations, and so that no one can ever forget the various truths of the world, such as which fruits are poisonous, which animals are dangerous and which plants grow where. The rest of the tribe does not do anything about him - punishing him for this activity would merely reduce efficiency further.

Months begin to pass as the second son does this, before the next event that demands your attention rises.

One boy has died of sickness. Two more have been born. This is not the event, however. There are other humans attacking, riding horses and carrying nets and spears. Women and children are being netted. Men are being run through on the spears.

Your tribe is being attacked by another and the situation is more desperate than ever.

For this situation, you have been granted a Miracle and an Epiphany. The Miracle works as it previously did - a supernatural event takes place that affects a small community. An Epiphany is very similar, except on a lower scale - it is a supernatural event that affects a single person.

What do you wish to do?

The raiders are suddenly stuck by your powers. They see no reason for what they are doing - in fact, they should be helping these people. They can already see how they are prospering, by their large stocks of food - their methods are far more efficient than those of their own tribe. Joining with this new tribe would be far more beneficial. So, just live that, suddenly the attack ceases and the women are released.

The defenders are not so merciful. Before they realize that the attackers are actually surrendering, three of the nine raiders are slain. The rest are captured and imprisoned, where they are interrogated - and the curious second son begins to record information from them, such as how they tamed their horses, crafted spears and made nets. The other tribesmen are beginning to respect this logic of this.

The raiders are indeed all male. Information is extracted from the more-than-willing raiders who inform the tribe that they come from plains at the borders of the forest that your tribe lives in, where their own monotheistic tribe has almost a hundred members.

All information that the raider tribe knows is assimilated by your tribe. Other tribe members are also joining in the image-crafting, so that information may be remembered. They accept the knowledge of the Second Son.

The Second Son also proposes a new idea. He pushed forth a slate containing information. He has observed that plants grow from seed. If they create an area safe from flood and predation, they can cultivate plants and create a source of food that they can aquire nutrients from whenever they wish. The rest of the tribe agrees with this and a project is initiated.

Months begin to pass. The immortality of the Second Son is already noticeable. He doesn't seem to suffer from any form of illness. No dead skin, no grey hairs, nothing. Taking this as a sign of incredible health, he is assigned half of the women of the tribe.

From the knowledge obtained, the tribesmen know that since the raiding party never returned, another will come soon to confirm just what happened, so guards have been placed. This time, the Tribe is not taken by surprise. Six raiders this time. Two are slain, four are captured and screaming obscenities and curses, refusing to cooperate at all.

The Second Son is filled with ideas of diplomacy. He begins to speak to his comrades about this - perhaps they can barter and trade with these individuals in order to convince them to side with them.

So, they begin to barter with the prisoners, who are obviously illogical, otherwise they would've immediately sided with the more fruitful tribe. They offer more food, more water and women, in exchange for their services. Greedily, the four raiders accept.

Negotiations with the raider faction itself are not made. It would be foolish - chances are that the negotiators would simply be slain.

The Second Son has been accepted as the new chieftain after several months. He is healthier and more intelligent. The former chieftain accepts this and willingly steps down for the superior leader to take his place.

    Tribe's current state:
    3 Elderly (2 male, 1 female)
    21 males (11 tribesmen, 6 former-raiders, 4 raiders)
    13 females
    9 children (6 females, 3 males)

The raider tribe is confirmed to have:
    Approximately 60 raider males
    Approximately 40 women
Approximately 20 children, half and half male and female

I think it's important that our tribe have the full gamut of emotions, and act on them freely.

The key, I think, is to ensure they always ask the following questions to themselves, about everything; what, and why. What will happen if I do this? Why would I do it? Then, follow these things through to their logical conclusion before acting.

Be angry. Be absolutely furious. But always, always think about what will happen if you choose to act on that anger.

The raiders don't get the Tribe of Logic. They're just plain alien to them. Ultimately, the raiders are both satisfied and irritated with the situation. They get no satisfaction from being with this bunch of freaks - no sadism, no ritual, nothing. It's dull. It's boring. The only reason they're loyal is because of the food and the sex and the fact that if they leave, they'll probably get cut down by your tribe. They've already been punished in logical ways to do not lower their efficiency as hunters for trying to take more than their fair share. Also, they appear to be monotheistic and worship a deity known as A'moshatharikati. Whether this deity is similar to you or merely the product of fiction is unknown.

The Second Son begins to teach more advanced methods of recording information, so more data can be put down on a single slate. Symbols are used instead of images.

Expansion of defenses is also prioritized. Ditches are dug and filled with sharpened stakes, moats are dug out and more. Bottlenecks to funnel enemies through are created.

Months pass before the raiders attack again. This time, their forces are much larger. They are expecting something dangerous here - most likely a civilization to be plundered. There are twenty-three of them.

The conflict begins. Several spears, crafted to be thrown, are chucked at the enemy. Several of the enemy are slained, their numbers dropping to half before things begin to go wrong.

The raiders begin to cut down your people from within your ranks and suddenly, your people begin to... panic. They're not working at maximum efficiency any longer, they're starting to act illogical, they're trying to run, scrambling for a way to get away from the attackers and the traitors. Then one of them spontaneously combusts, causing further panic and terror.

Suddenly, in a flash of metaphoric light, every man is suddenly doused with logic. They look upon the camp that they are attacking and they stop. Why are they attacking? It does not make sense.

They attempt to surrender, trying to back down, although another four of them are killed, leaving eight of them alive. However, the Second Son recognizes this. The first raid did the same thing, so they do not even bother to capture these raiders - they know that they shall side with them.

Somewhere in the camp, the healthiest woman is suddenly imbued with pure logic and the ability to spread it.
A strange insectoid creature is created, with many legs and many arms and a strange head. When still an inanimate, it simply looks like a rock. It is capable of mentally scouting an area and of manipulating and assuming direct control over a single mortal mind at a time.

However, something happens to one of the raiders. Its eyes begin to burn with an unimaginable rage as a Miracle is poured into it, following by an Epiphany. Suddenly, it begins to twist and change. It grows, becoming hideous and cancerous, a horrifying entity of muscle and twisted bone, approximately the size and weight of a van. It begins to slaughter all around it.

Admittedly, there may be a favorable equilibrium if we use the monster's strength to start constantly pillaging other villages, thereby maximizing the gain from its presumably immense resource consumption, but that'll also be dangerous.

I move that our goal is to hit Grecian levels by the time they have figured out how to write.

Assuming we get enough power, we can dump the basics of all the major sciences directly into their heads.

It can't inspire specific actions. It can increase certain emotions of a group or assume direct control over a few.
    >> Anonymous 02/11/10(Thu)23:56 No.8041535
Let's just wait and see. There's not enough info to make a good choice at this point. We should save our powers to react at this point, we don't have the man power to expand our tribe enough to "enlighten" them further.

All right, then, bank it and give us the next timeskip. Let's see if our logical people fort up or start attempting to spread the good word.

Can we expend an epiphany to make it able to communicate verbally with our people?

It can't drop ideas into their heads like we can, but it can certainly suggest things.

    Delight is an emotion! Frown.
As long as it only does it to our enemies... I suppose.

Not like it can trouble our tribesmen with such things anyway.
    >> Anonymous 02/11/10(Thu)23:58 No.8041566
ehhh. let's save the communicate and allow time to pass.

Hopefully the controller will operate on its own.

    You currently lack an Epiphany.

The common vote seems to be towards saving the Communicate.

    Continue?

    They can do BOTH!

I concur though. We save the Communicate for later.

And it was confirmed that we may speak with The Controller without using a Communicate power?
As in... talk to it. Get our scouting data!

    Yes? Heh.
    Why wouldn't it?
    Population would grow.
    They develop space travel.
    They spread to the galaxy.

I guess it's hard for me to believe in this whole "logic" thing. Ignoring it, immortal humans would waste their immortality. At best, we'd just follow ancient tradition as we crowd an area by drying up its resources.

The whole logic thing does change my view on how an immortal race would work... but essentially, this idea of the tribe of logic are like robots in that regard
    >> Anonymous 02/12/10(Fri)00:06 No.8041714
i say time skip. Also, as /tg/ as a god of logic is we're not bound to continue using the logic bomb on people are we? I mean we could do whatever we want with the miracles and epiphanies. It kicks ass that out tribe is way more logical out of the gate than all the other people we've encountered, so I say leave it at that. continuing with the logic god stuff just devolves the game into arguing about what is logical and makes things less fun

You're still hampered by traditional dogma regarding humanity and logic.

A normal human, when immortal, would have no fear of death, and so would adventure quite widely.
    Curiosity would reign, not stagnation.

A logical being, would not be swayed by uncontrollable and detrimental impulses.
He would be sentient, capable of performing all humans do now, simply more effectively and efficiently.

This is the shit im talking about. This is not fun. Lets be a god for fucks sake. Also, it makes sense for them to be afraid of death since we have limited numbers at this point and ever person is important in order for the tribe to survive.

Why is this thread making logic seem so subjective?
    >> Plasm !q2KCQhdMOM 02/12/10(Fri)00:13 No.8041838
Eight years pass. The tribe evolves at a rate beyond any other due to your intervention. It goes from using small, crude tents to constructing reasonable huts from wood gathered from the smaller trees. Bows have been developed, a written language has been developed and the society is booming. You've had no reason to interfere. The Controller has also been discovered after a few years - although and the Second Son utilizes it as an assistant and a scout.

Something's happening though, after all of this time. There's the smell of smoke in the air in the middle of the day. Forest fire, coming from the Eastern borders.

Through mental scouting, you confirm with the Controller that the Raider tribe has arrived in full force.

    Current tribe state:
    The Second Son
    The Lady of Wisdom
    The Controller
    1 Elderly (1 male)
    26 males (10 tribesmen, 16 former-raiders)
    16 females
    38 children (20 females, 18 males)

Yep, that's what made Vampire Bride Quest so fun, too.
CPU can handle the logic. (This seems to be him, or someone like him, at least.)
    Just requires a competent GM.

Also, how often is a Logic Deity done? It's new ground!

Can we use the next miracle we get to make our tribesmen able to generate electricity? It would increase their killing efficiency.
