The year is 298 AL and the plots against House Bulwark are slowly revealing themselves. After gaining third place in the Archery tournament, Donatello met with Syrio Forel while searching for the missing Arya Stark, and pieced together that the whore Lya was the missing Iris Dannett, heir to House Dannett after her brother's suspicious death. Realising her importance, Donatello tried to bring her to his father so she could be brought to safety in the Shell. Orten Lugus confronted them, telling Iris he had vital information regarding her safety and her brother's death, and when Donatello wouldn't let him walk off with her Orten drew steel, called him a kidnapper, and attacked him along with the dead Ser Adham Dannett's squire. Iris fled, and Donatello brutally beat Orten before the Goldcloaks took them both to the Red Keep. Iris told this to Lord Leonardo, and they headed off to help his son. Meanwhile, Maester Splinter spoke with Ned Stark of his suspicions that House Bulwark is being framed, who shockingly revealed that he is no longer Hand of the King and is planning to return to Winterfell shortly. With all the important pieces and players assembling in the Red Keep, it seems whatever intrigue that has plagued the Bulwarks in King's Landing will soon come to fruition or be unravelled.
Leonardo races to the Red Keep, Donatello is under guard in a fairly comfortable room (bribing the Gold Cloaks certainly paid off) and Maester Splinter is with him, tending to his injuries. What do you do?

Sorry about missing yesterday, I had an IRL game. This part of the Quest relies a fair bit on what's happened so far, so at least read through the synopses in the first posts of the archive to get an idea.

Bump, because I know there's a few people interested in wrapping this up. Not sure where this is supposed to be. Somewhere in the Iron Islands? Yunkai? Who's got the White Hand as a sigil?
>>
I've read half of the quest.
Man, you guys made it really impossible for someone not familiar with the source to participate.

Anyway, here's a bump. I've seen these threads going well over post limit, so it is unlikely people just lost interest
>>

Yeah, but what kind of person doesn't know about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

>>19544277
you had me going for a moment there
>>
Let's check in on Leo. How close is he to the Red Keep.
>>
>>19544334
You're about halfway down the Street of Looms, maybe five minutes away from the Red Keep. He's got a handfull of his guards and Iris Dannett with him. Iris seems nervous, as though she knows she's facing something deeply unpleasant.
>>
>>19544363
You are looking worried there, Iris.
Do you know something we might not be aware of?
>>
>>19544363
Can we time skip to when he reaches the Keep? We're going to have to either negotiate Donnies release, or promise the King we'll head home with him, and leave some money to pay for the treatments.
>>
>>19544390
Looks like some people want to talk with Iris first

>>19544382
"It's just, I don't know what I'll do. They're going to ask why Orten and Donatello were fighting, and Orten knows who I am. What will it do to my father when he finds out from his leige the things that were done to me, and the way I've survived in King's Landing?"
>>
>>19544427
We tell him the truth, dear.
They were fighting over a courtesan called Lia.
Like young nobles do. Far too often, if you ask me.
>>
>>19544459
I like that idea. It's perfect.
It isn't lying. It's just not telling the whole story.
>>
>>19544474
As far as the Goldcloaks are concerned, it is.
>>
>>19544459
"That's true. Ever since a few days ago that hedge knight Bryan has had a falling out with Ser Gennady, and I think it was over me. But Orten was talking about my family, and if he survived I think he's going to tell the whole court."
>>
>>19544487
Not really. As long as Orten doesn't say anything about her true identity, we're home free with that. I doubt he will. He's too cowardly to risk being accused of trying to kill her.
>>
>>19544521
"Then we'll need to silence him as well if he still lives, or have you leave before the story breaks to the court as a whole."
>>
>>19544521
I say his claims are baseless and without evidence. I'll say the beating he got knocked the sense out of him.
>>
>>19544521
In that case, we will have to make him keep his tongue.
Or I will break my fast on it.
You think that will impress him?
>>
You arrive at the gates of the Red Keep, and despite your disguise are soon recognised. Knights, courtiers, and noblewomen whisper to each other and point at Lord Bulwark and the whore who presumably is at the centre of this fight. Some men are even joking about how they'd have thought it would be the drunk and violent Ser Naton who'd be getting into a fight, not his little brother. This is unlikely to be good for the Bulwark name, but at least it means the guards accept that you are meant to be inside very quickly.
>>
>>19544586
I guess we should go and sort this whole mess out.
>>
>>19544586
You might want to present us with some kind of prompt to answer to.
That generally stimulates answers.
>>
>>19544688
Walking through Maegor's Holdfast, you soon find your way to where the two prisoners (at least the highborn ones) are being detained. You notice pained moans coming from Orten's room, and pass his sister as she leaves and swiftly leaves the area. Two Goldcloaks stand at the door of Donatello's room, and within you see Maester Splinter applying firemilk to Donatello's wounds. "He's hurt, my lord, but not badly. It should take only a few days to recover."
>>
>>19544754
Well, at this point the three Bulwark characters in King's Landing are together, and you've got to work out what you're going to do when King Robert calls everyone in to sort out this mess.
>>
>>19544777
"Good. What happened?"
>>
>>19544863
Donatello explains that he was headed to see you with Iris when Orten approached them and said he had something important to tell her. She was going to go with him, but Donatello didn't trust Orten, and was especially suspicious knowing that Iris was the Dannett heir. He tried to leave with Iris but Orten and the Dannett squire attacked him, shouting that he was trying to abduct Iris. He soundly defeated them, and went along with the Goldcloaks who had heard the fighting. Given that Orten stabbed the Fox Knight before you could question him and that the Dannetts are doubtless a fellow target of this plot, you understand his suspicions.
>>
>>19544958
"How badly did you injure Orten?"
Alright. Everyone is on the same page right now. I guess we can get ready to talk to the King.
>>
>>19545024
"I gave him a good hard blow to the head, and from the sounds of it he's not too happy."

The three of you head out in time to see Maiyo Vierro the Braavosi merchant hastily leave the corridor. You enter the Throne Room, and as Marita Lugus sees you she leaves to fetch Orten.
King Robert does not look happy. "This is the second time you've disturbed my tournament, Bulwark. I ought to get my warhammer and knock some sense into you! What have you got to say for yourselves?"
>>
>>19545106
My lord, it is my duty to protect those who can't protect themselves. And Ser Orten attacking a woman, with his squire, deserves my attention.
>>
>>19545141
Your Grace* whoops.
>>
>>19545141
Great speech, except.... It wasn't his squire. It was the Dannetts. Remove that bit and I'm game for it. And I assume that Donnie is saying this?
>>
>>19545162
Really? Well shit.
>>
>>19545162
Deal.
>>
>>19545141
"Hmmph. She doesn't look hurt, but we all know you're a good fighter. Girl, why was Lugus attacking you?"
"He was a...client of mine, Your Grace, and said he wanted to speak with me before drawing his sword. It all happened so fast."
"Well I see why men are fighting over you. Ah, here comes the other one."
Orten Lugus is being carried in, supported by a Maester and his sister. He's covered in bloody bandages, clearly woozy from his head wound and milk of the poppy, but seems determined to speak.
"Well, Lugus? Why did you attack this woman?"
"Your Grace, I tried to save her. From a devio...bad plot to take over Dannett land. Bulwarks wanted Ser Adham dead, but not to win the fight. They did the raiding to make him fight, so they could get rid of the heir. He's given wine, and the wine, it had the dagger. Bulwark had the dagger to sneak a poison here, and put it in wine to given Dannett, so he dies in joust. Now they know where Iris is, and taking her away to get married. So now they're the heir, and get the lands."
The king looks a little confused. "Iris? Who's Iris? Isn't the whore's name Lya? And what's this about a dagger and poison? Bulwark, what do you say to this accusation?"
>>
>>19545316
Oh, that was me by the way, sorry.

Orten continues "Get the squire, I told him the about the plots"
>>
>>19545316
Your Grace, this dagger is one of Dragonbone found in the Inn we were staying at, it contained the Tears of Lys in the hilt, we have spoken to Lord Stark about it. You know the Bulwark house praises itself in its pride, and to use poison is the method of a Eunuch! No offense Lord Varys, but it is. This entire thing is a plot to shame house Bulwark, even the raid on the fishing village where our house shield was found was a ploy, the same shield was stolen from a trophy room.

Ser Orten's words are nothing but a Murmurer's farce.
>>
>>19545316
Leonardo
My king, it was never our intention to drag more people into this affair, than necessary.
It began with a faked raid of ours against the Dannetts. Somebody had reaved their fisher village and conveniently left a shield with a turtle.
My son found that this heinous lie had been spread everywhere on his way here. We tried to explain this to the Dannets, but... our heirs were at each other's throats before we could talk reason.
And I understood that Iris was the Dannet's missing younger daughter. I suppose, Orten here might have mistaken Lia for Iris in his cups.
And I certainly cannot blame him for losing his temper, seing her in the arms of my heir.
You know how things sometimes make sense just until you get sober?
>>
>>19545316
"All false. You can ask Lord Stark yourself. A dagger was sent to us, and yes there was a poison in there, the same that was used to kill Jon Arryn and Ser Adham. We wished for nothing more than a bout to first blood with Ser Adham, and stated so in public. Why would we wish him dead? We had no feud against the Dannetts before the accusations of raiding, and even then only wished for the lies they were stating to stop, and for no bad blood or ill will to exist between us. Orten plotted perhaps both deaths, and killed the Fox Knight to try to cover up his involvement in the raids, as the shield used to accuse us falsely was supplied by him. I declare him worse than dirt, the very scum of the earth, who would see good folk die for measly gains."
>>
>>19545376
King Robert seems angered by the mention of his old friend. "Bah, Stark is soft. You probably told him some weepy eyed story about your poor little girl growing up an orphan if you were beheaded. So you admit you had poison, do you? It looks like Lugus is in no condition to speak, get that bloody Squire!"
Goldcloaks head off to bring the Dannett squire up from the cells. In the meantime, Ned Stark arrives in the Throne Room, having finally learned of what is taking place. You've got a bit of time before the Squire can talk, what do you say?
>>
>>19545463
I get the sinking feeling that everyone is about to lose their head. Little April and Ser Casey will be all that's left to defend The Shell against any invasions.
>>
>>19545480
I don't want to say that by the way, just making a casual observation.
>>
>>19545463
Lord Stark is an honourable man, very much like the Bulwarks, I would have him speak, Your Grace, his words should carry the weight of truth and honour.
>>
>>19545463

My King. Do not mistake me for a frail noble boy or some child! I am a veteran warrior. I value honour unlike the ones you deal with everyday. I told Lord Stark only the truth.

Be hard and cold. Dont shy away. NOT ONE STEP BACK. EVEN IF ITS THE KING.
>>
>>19545463
"We told Ned no such sob story. We went to him, because as the Kings Hand, he would be more than interested in someone trying to frame the bannerman of his Lords brother. There is no way for Orten to know about a vial of poison being inside the hilt, a fact we told only Ned Stark, unless he was the one who placed it there."
>>
WHAT THE FUCK?

seriously i leave the last thread suggesting we hire the whore and then propose we get her out of that life with a nice non disreputable job in the shell and somehow you manage to get this dragged in front of the court, and still not manage to kill a weakling and his unwitting patsy before the whole thing is obviously brought down on us?
>>
>>19545431
There's muttering around the room as you claim Jon Arryn's death was unnatural. Cersei glares at you icily, while Varys whispers into Robert's ear.
"Hmm. Yes, that would explain the shield."
Ned Stark also speaks up. "It's true. They told me they were sent a dagger with poison, and their Maester said it was that poison which killed Ser Adham. Why would they tell the Hand of the King this if they were guilty."
"You're not the Hand, Stark. But at least what you're saying now makes sense. What I don't understand is why Orten would do all this. What does he have against you and the Dannetts?"
Orten is moaning "It's a lie! They wanted to take over! They're evil!"
>>
>>19545537
Shit that's a good point, we only told other the Maester and Eddard.

I want Orten dead.
>>
>>19545557
Your Grace, as >>19545537 said, we only told Lord Stark of the poison, I would know how Ser Orten knows aswell.
>>
>>19545557
"I truly do not know. Perhaps he is being manipulated by someone else. Perhaps he has his own reasons to see the Dannetts and the Bulwarks fall to ruin. Perhaps he is just as mad as the Fox Knight was."
>>
>>19545576
"I saw the dagger. You got it and I saw you. I asked Maiyer Verrer and he said it was a Lyseni assassin dagger, and they have poison hidden in them."
His explaination is interrupted by the obviously drunk Ser Naton Lugus bursting into the throne room. "JUSTICE! JUSTICE FOR HOUSE LUGUS! THEY TRIED TO KILL MY BROTHER! I DEMAND JUSTICE!"
King Robert shouts louder. "QUIET! BE QUIET OR I'LL HAVE ALL YOUR HEADS."
The court is silent, and Ser Naton speaks. "Trial by combat. I want to kill them for this insult to House Lugus."
>>
>>19545678
Place your hand on your sword and say "I accept your challenge, but sober up a bit first." if it's us he's talking to.
>>
>>19545678

Trial by Combat is too good for the likes of you scum.
>>
>>19545678
My King, can I slaughter this drunk lout right now or should we wait until he's sober to ask if he's sure?
>>
>>19545678
"I assume the drink has gone to your head. Sober up before you make such a decision."
Turn back to King Robert.
"So the dagger wasn't sent by Orten. So it couldn't have been he who poisoned Ser Adham or Jon Arryn. Then who did? Varys told Orten it was an assassins blade from Lyseni. Are they behind this? Is someone playing us all for fools?"
>>
>>19545704
Assuming it's Leonardo talking
"Afraid, are you? You Turtles are all craven."
King Robert thinks and says "Shut up, Lugus. He's right, if there's another trial by combat with some suspicion over it this matter will never be put to rest. You'll fight tomorrow morning, in the courtyard of Maegor's Holdfast."
>>
>>19545763
"Very well then. As the King wishes."

Alright. Leo's obviously doing the fighting. Sword and shield, or is he going to go duel blades? I'm voting sword and shield. He's really good at that.
>>
>>19545789
Seconding the vote for sword and shield
>>
>>19545735
"Hmm. This is a matter for my Master of Whispers, and best not spoken of in open court. Come and speak with me. On the matter before us, we'll continue this tomorrow. Until then, Donatello Bulwark, Orten Lugus, and that squire are to be kept under guard."
King Robert stands from the Iron Throne and walks away with Varys. "Come on, Bulwark. The rest of you can clear off."
>>
Sword and shield. Does house Bulwark have a Valaryian steel blade?
>>
>>19545875
Nope.
>>
>>19545834
We'll go with him. And ask if Iris could stay at the Keep. We fear she may be in danger as well, now that she knows of the plot.
>>
>>19545889
Valyrian cuirass with turtle design?
>>
>>19545991
Don't forget to call her Lia.
>>
>>19546012
Nothing Valyrian steel related. We don't have the Herloom benefit.
>>
>>19546022
Right. Very important we don't forget that.
>>
>>19546027
Bugger. Well, we should start wagering fights for them, melt them down, and create a turtle shell great shield.
>>
Presumably, you go along with King Robert and Varys.
"Right, so you two know something about this poison coming in?"
"Not much, your Grace. I have my suspicions that it originated with a Lyseni smuggler called Shraddar. I believe you know the man, Leonardo? I believe that this won't be the only poisoning we'll see."
>>
>>19545991
King Robert wants her to remain in King's Landing until this issue is resolved, but he'll be sure she's well guarded until then.
>>
>>19546085
All high nobles should employ poison food testers from now on.
>>
>>19546085
"Yes I do. An old enemy. I suspected his hand in the raids, but this? I am surprised he went to such trouble to try to bring down my house."
>>
>>19546110
No. Even better, we can make them all eat only raw fruits they washed themselves in water they got by their own hands. 100% sure and I want to see who's most paranoid in court.
>>
>>19546112
"I doubt that was his true goal. He needed a distraction to avoid detection, and you were a useful target. Against a lesser man than I, he probably wouldn't have been found out, but my little birds are everywhere and know to watch for what everyone else has ignored."
>>
>>19546146
Of course having seen I Claudius the assassins would just poison everyone's hands or something
>>
>>19546154
"So then is he working alone, or is someone working with him, and in both cases, for what ends?"
>>
>>19546154
So you're a warg?
Wow, that's so exciting.
And probably a proper... compensation.
I am myself afraid, that in a few years, maybe things won't go my way anymore.
And sadly I have no such blessing.
Guess I will have to consult my maester over that.

Varys titters. "I am lucky then, to be spared that trauma at least."
>>
>>19546250
"Obviously. But there must be something we aren't seeing here. Some reason he would risk so much for little more than coin."
>>
>>19546317
Land? Vengeance? Promise of more gold?
>>
>>19546012

Did we talk about the tower shield looking like a turtle shell? "The little shell" to The Shell.
>>
>>19546351
Yeah. It isn't Valaryian steel though.
>>
>>19546329
Vengeance, maybe. He's a pirate why would he want land? No idea about more gold though.
>>
>>19546380

I don't remember Valaryian steel being use for anything other than blades. On that note we should try to get ourselves one of those.
>>
>>19546408
Maybe the Scorpion? The lost Dornish blade? It's Valayrian steel. No idea where it is.
>>
>>19546438
Nah, we should get our fight over with, MAYBE go ahead with the melee, and ship our little family back to the Shell before anyone else decides to kill us.
>>
>>19546466
Good plan. Best plan all day actually.
>>
>>19546466

Remember to offer Ned Stark our ship if he needs to get white harbor now that he isn't the Hand.

>>19546510

Maybe our son could meet his daughters, and he could talk about his other sons and meet our daughter. You know it could be good for our house to share a little Stark blood.
>>
>>19546602
His sons meet our daughter maybe. Donnie, fool that he is, made a promise to Iris.
>>
>>19546631
well after reading the archive Donnie promised nothing but refuge in the shell to Iris.

she told Lord Bulwark that he asked her to marry her.

of course this is all technically since he said no such thing , but since Iris latched on it like a fucking lifeboat there is no backing down on it even if Donnie knows he did not ask her to marry him since the scandal is way to public and there is no fucking way we can get out of this without fucking the name Bulwark one way or the other.

wither by marrrying a whore
or by rejecting the damsel we saved.

enemy propaganda will have a field day with us regardless of our actions, since Donnie offered one thing, Iris took it for another , either knowingly or unknowingly, and now this debacle in front of the knig.
>>
>>19546677
Wrong, we can work this to our advantage. House Bulwark marries now for power, because we'll fuck you up anyway, we marry for love and companionship. We raise the low to be high, like all Knights and leaders should.
>>
>>19546677
Yeah. We're stuck. We can't back down from our promise of shelter, but what that means to Iris is a husband apparently. We're right fucked. At the very least, she can reveal her identity once she's out of Kings Landing. That'll quash most of the rumors, but raise about a thousand new ones.
>>
>>19546677
well, Iris managed to escape from her family and survive in king's landing so my guess is that she didn't actually made a mistake...
wait a minute... THIS IS ALL PART OF HERS SCHEME!

Or maybe we are looking too far. Maybe enemies themselves are in the Kings court. Lord Varys, i dont know why, but despite all things i will trust you. Would you use your little birds and see what they can dig up?
>>
>>19551687
"Certainly. I shall speak with you, or send one of my little birds to sing a song in your ear. I do have one thing I can say to help you, though it doesn't have much to do with Shraddar and his plot. Make sure you join the melee. There is a young man who will need your help, who is more than he seems. He could be a useful ally, and is still chivalrous enough to be a loyal one. Such a rairity in these times."
>>
>>19551978

We shall Lord Varys. I will personally join the melee to see what i can do for him. Thank you for your time.

Respectfully give our farewells, check on the iris if we can, if we cannot, then lets better prepare for melee. I dont want to leave it to chance.
>>

Iris plans to speak with the squire (Who seems to be called Marcas Ward) about keeping her identity secret. She knows he would probably recognise her, and doesn't want him blurting it out before everyone.

Your arms and armour are in good condition, and you make everything ready to fight for your House tomorrow. You will not leave a legacy of scandal and shame!

The experience you gained fighting the Fox Knight and wrestling a boar has taught you a few tricks with the blade.
Longsword Specialisation is now +2
If you want, you can also invest a Destiny Point to become a Weapons Master of long blades, improving the amount of damage you do with each hit.
>>
>>19552441

No, i want to save that destiny point if womething goes bad in Melee.

So lets train for a bit accumulate some experience. Train with twin swords.

Iris says that she really thinks she should talk with him, but is okay with you chapheroning her.
>>
>>19552470

Lets tell her before we leave that we will make everything alright.
>>
>>19552463
Plus this is going to be in the courtyard, so you can spend a destiny point to pull an Oberyn and make your opponent chop some servant in half.

Also, in SoIaF, dual weapon fighting is mostly useful for defense bonuses and to fight multiple opponents. And from the looks of Ser Naton, he'll really punish you if you don't carry a shield.
>>
>>19552516

Alright then, a shield and longsword it is. Though first thing after this, we should work on a twin sword technique that can be also applied to single targets.
>>
>>19552532

Also OP, it seems i am the only one here, would you want to wait for others?
>>
>>19552532
Don't get me wrong, it's still useful, but the Long Sword Fighter benefits give a bonus against opponents without a shield.

You wake up the next day, prepared for battle. Donatello's wounds are healing well, and Maester Splinter has no objections to his fighting in the melee, despite still being a little weak. After breaking your fast, you walk to the courtyard where King Robert said the trial by combat was to take place. A small crowd of servants, squires, guards, courtiers, and knights has assembled to watch. King Robert is there, as are Ned Stark and Littlefinger, who is whispering into his ear. Ser Naton arrives soon, still flushed from the night before.
"Ser Naton Lugus, do you wish to challenge Lord Leonardo Bulwark to trial by combat?"
"Yes, your Grace" he growls.
"Lord Bulwark, do you accept this challenge?"

If you do, roll 6d6 keeping the highest 4 for your attack.

Hmm, I guess so. Maybe do the first round of combat then wait for a few more to show up.

>>
>>19553674
Well at least he's not dead right? I really hope that didn't just jinx it.
>>
>>19553705
Would maiming him be frowned upon? If so then I guess we should just wound him. If not, well his house has given us nothing but trouble...
>>
>>19553728
The consequences of losing this duel are going to be pretty rough indeed. I don't think we have the luxury of choosing the non-lethal option, we should go for whatever is going to leave us the victor. Leaving Lugus alive is a secondary objective.
>>
>>19553676
Ser Naton is clearly weakening, and doesn't manage to even strike your shield. You easily dance behind him and strike him across the helm a few times. He turns with a speed you can't believe he can manage and smashes your sword arm. You feel like something's broken, and that doesn't just mean your vambrace.

You knock Ser Naton to the ground, lift his visor, and demand he yield. He spits a gobbet of blood and tooth splinters at you, and you punch him out. At this point Orten starts wailing. "Oh gods, what have I done? They were right, I must have been drunk and confused, and my beloved brother has paid for my folly. How can I face my father after this? Seven have mercy."
Grand Maester Pycelle speaks up. "The two Lugus brothers are both badly wounded, possibly fatally in Ser Naton's case. What happened was the result of youthful foolishness, Your Grace, and it would be only just to allow their injuries to be their punishment, and a reminder never to breach the King's Peace again."

>>19554129
Soo... what are the injuries on Leonardo? Will Donatello be able to fight in the melee? I want everybody out of King's Landing as soon as possible, especially those Stark guys
>>
>>19554159
Leonardo's cut and bruised, his wrist feels sprained and maybe broken, and something feels funny in his left knee. He could fight in the melee, but won't be at his best. Donatello has a few cuts and aching muscles, but nothing's feeling too bad. He's got no problems joining the melee if he wants to.

As for Ned, having seen your win he's heading off with Littlefinger. Seems he has one last errand to run before boarding your ships.

Crunchwise, Ned Stark is meant to die. You can save him, but it requires an awesome plan and permanently burning a Destiny point to get you to the stage where it's hard, but possible.
>>
>>19554219
Welp. So the fat fuck is going to go too I guess... Maybe we can find a way to kick some sense into Renly
>>
>>19554219

Ok, we should get our Maester to heal Leonardo as good as possible, then we should see about gathering as many supporters who would fight at our side in the melee as possible. Since the Members of House Bulwark are both wounded this might get awkward.
>>
>>19554280
This. We need to find Thoros of Myr and Ser Bryan Telson and start organizing the tactics for the melee
>>
>>19554280
Maester Splinter tends to Leonardo's wounds while a smith hammers his armour back into shape. He's able to set his arm with a small splint and bandages, and keep him from reinjuring his knee if he does have to fight, but he shouldn't be in the melee.
Luckily, Thoros of Myr is willing to join your team. Ser Bryan Telson is also eager to fight besides you, having quit Ser Gennady's team over some quarrel. With a few of your guards and some young knights from the tavern Ser Joris impressed with his stories about The Great House Bulwark, you've got enough for a proper melee team. Against you are eight other teams, Gennady's Dornishmen, one of Ned Stark's guards and Riverlanders, another Riverland one, a few made up of Stormland and Crownland men, a team from the Westerlands, and two of men from the Reach. The rules are simple: fight until first blood or yielding, the last team with men on the field is the winner, and the last man on the field overall wins the purse.
>>
>>19554359

Hm, Leonardo shouldn't fight? I am not familiar with the system, but i noticed that leo has a higher Warfare (Command) than Donatello (though just one point). I do not know how much difference this will make... Should we risk letting Leo lead the men, knowing that he wont be much use in personal combat, or give the young Donatello the lead in this fight?

I'd say play it safe and keep Leonardo out, we dont necessarily NEED to get first place and loosing the lord on the field of honour might be bad (remember there might still be assassins around, with poisoned weapons or crap), and we give don a chance to prove himself.
>>
>>19554421
Let Donatello get some seasoning in battle.
>>
>>19554421
In small scale fights, Warfare influences initiative order, and I'm not really bothering with initiative much. It's main use is that you roll Warfare to give units commands, and your warfare influences how many orders you can give a turn (which can, at the penalty of increased difficulty, mean giving a unit multiple orders to attack so it gets to do so several times). With just seven men, it's not worth it.
In game terms Leonardo has a Wound, which effectively means he keeps one less die in all his rolls, as well as a couple of injuries. Donatello's healed so he has one injury, which means he just reduces his results by 1, which isn't a massive penalty.
>>
>>19554469

Can both of them fully recover? Also, Leo will return to Shell along with Iris. Donatello will stay behind, join the Melee and save Starks life.
>>
>>19554506
Wounds take a week to heal, unfortunately. Besides, you do have plenty of time to save Ned. King Robert hasn't even heard the White Stag is in the Kingswood, let alone gone hunting.

Is Leonardo leaving right away, or waiting for the end of the melee?
>>
>>19554536

Lets wait then, though we should keep Iris close. Lets try to protect her as best as we can.
>>
Leonardo needs to start plotting like a mad cunt.
We have to start playing the game of thrones.
>>
With Iris safely under guard, Donatello is ready to enter the melee. His team has assembled, with Thoros dipping his sword in some kind of thick, sticky oil and preparing a few backup swords and tapers in case his first goes out or is dropped. Your guards, Ser Bryan, and the young Ser Jasen Chelsted and Ser Benfred Bywater are ready for combat. Your team is given orange armbands to wear, and each one parades around the melee field before forming up in one corner. Thoros lights his firesword, and your horses start to whinney in fear (apart from his, which is so traumatised it doesn't react to anything these days). The horn sounds, and Thoros screams "I SERVE THE GOD OF BRIGHT FIRE! AND I BRING YOU FIRE!" as you ride off. You see the Stormlanders and Dornishmen ride against each other, and the Westerlanders are coming for you, with some Tyrell bannermen in pursuit. "With me!" Ser Bryan shouts as he charges for the Dornish team. What do you do?
>>
>>19554668

Follow Ser Bryan. have three of our guards split and flank the enemy riders.
>>
>>19554593
You mean Cyvasse?
>>
>>19554686

>>
wait, who are we supposed to protect, according to Varys?
Anyway >>19554683 sounds good. Use Thoros to scare horses from the other teams to spoil their manouvers
>>
>>19554683
Seeing the potential for a big messy fight, the Lannister bannermen split into two groups and try to flank the Tyrell team. With your rear secure, your men smash into the battle with the Dornishmen, with your outriders flanking. Ser Bryan and Ser Gennady beat each other with their swords, and Thoros is just whaling on everyone Stormlander or Dornish, sending a few to the ground as their horses rear in panic.
Roll 4d6, and say what you're trying to do.

REVENGE!" as he reaches down to grab the sword before a stormlander cuts him and forces him from the ring. You lose a guard before you manage to beat them off, and now it seems the Rivermen, Northerners and Lannisters have formed an alliance of convenience against the strongest single team. What's the plan?

You and your men form up into a square, with Thoros out to the side. The enemy are coming for you when he madly charges into their flank, sending Riverland destriers scattering in terror and knights to the ground. In the confusion the Northmen and half the Lannisters attack you while the other half and a few Crownland men decide to hunt down the Riverlanders. You knock a couple from their horses, but eventually one of them manages to find a gap in your armour and cut you, forcing you from the ring. Your remaining men stand bravely and shatter the remaining teams before they're defeated, leaving Thoros of Myr to hunt down and defeat the few remaining. The teams form up again, with the exception of Ser Bryan and the maimed Ser Gennedy, and a few of the knights are on foot as their horses were crippled in the melee, and to great cheers Team Bulwark are declared the victors, with Thoros of Myr champion of the melee.

Each of you receives a purse of about 300 gold dragons, given that Ser Bryan's share is divided amongst you. Thoros of Myr is to take several thousand dragons at the ceremony later to award the champions of the Joust and Melee. You're all drinking and singing when a man bursts into the ale tent with shocking news. It seems Jaime Lannister and a gang of Redcloaks ambushed Lord Ned Stark, slaughtered his men, and left him for dead after his horse fell on him, in revenge for Caetlyn Stark's arrest of The Imp for attempting to kill her crippled son Bran. Ned Stark's still living, but greivously hurt, and the kingslayer is fleeing for Casterly Rock. A northman swears and smashes his mug in anger. People mutter about the treacherous Lannisters while a few men in red call Caetlyn a paranoid lunatic. Ser Joris turns to you and says "I told your father. Dark days are coming to King's Landing."
>>

"I need to talk to him. We're not letting pig shit politicians bring discord to Westeros. My father has a plan, I'm certain."

You go to the Bullwark Manse, up the northern end of River Row. Donatello, Leonardo, Maester Splinter, Iris Dannett and Ser Joris are all there. What do you do?

"I vow that you shall always have a place in my home, and at my table, and that I shall ask of you no service that shall bring you dishonor. I swear it by the old gods and the new."

>>19555624
At the ball, you start hearing rumours that Langley Woods died after the melee of a flux, and his fiancee Marita Lugus disappeared. People are apologetic to you, now certain that the Black Widow of Casterly Rock and her family were behind this foul deed. A few of their friends, of course, put the blame on the dubious food and water of King's Landing, but nobody takes them seriously. People are also talking of Ser Bryan, saying he must be the missing Lord Tygor Wyl, whose body was never found after the foul murder of his family. The main argument is whether he's a Dornish bandit who steals weapons and mutilates people at melees, or a hero out to take vengeance for his family. Eventually, with everyone present, King Robert motions for the music to stop and for everyone to be silent.
"Friends and loyal subjects! This tournament was not simply a display of great valour and courage, although that indeed it was. It was held to honour the arrival of Lord Eddard Stark, Hand of the King and my closest friend. He is honest, noble, compassionate, honourable, brave and strong. Even as we sat and watched the melee he was fighting a cowardly ambush..."
At this the Queen glares at Robert
"And slew five of the bastards himself. If he worshipped the New Gods, he would be the perfect knight. To the Hand of the King!"
King Robert raises his tankard of ale, and everyone toasts with him. He presents Sandor Clegane, Loras Tyrell, and Thoros of Myr with their prizes, and the ball continues on into the night.

>Black Widow of Casterly Rock
Who now? Am I missing something?

You look around for Varys as a servant brings you another drinks. You hear his soft voice say "I do so love Robert's little celebrations." Looking across, you see Varys in servant's garb and a wig.

You know Orten and Naton? She's their sister, widowed about three times (four now) in mysterious circumstances, and she's just gone missing after her betrothed died of the same poison as Adham Dannett (and Jon Arryn, but only people with Superior Castles like ours and the Eyrie say that).

I see. Thanks.

>>19555849
Varys what are you doing why are you dressed like that
>>
>>19555849 " I like the wig"
>>
>>19555849
Don't.
Drink.

"These events are so interesting, but Eunuchs tend to make people uncomfortable and Spiders make them quiet. Nobody pays any attention to a servant, though."

>>19555892
"Thank you. It's real human hair."

"I wanted to speak with you about Ned Stark's unfortunate run-in with Jaime Lannister today. I am afraid that this could only be the beginning of something greater, and that this city might not be safe for friends of the Starks. Everyone knows that you spoke to him, foiling the plans of a Lannister bannerman, and thanks to you one of them needs a Maester and the other is not long for this world, given his family. One shudders to think what Her Grace the Queen must think of this."

Don't drink it.
"I like that wig Varys."
>>

"Her Grace thinks? News to me." if we are Donatello. If we are Leonardo:
"You wanted to speak, so speak. Beating around the bush isn't necessary with me, my lord."
>>
>>19556010
"What she thinks of this? Seven hells, she probably wants me dead at this point, simply because of the trouble I've caused her family."
>>

Varys notices your reluctance. "You wound me, Donatello. Do you really think someone could give me poisoned wine without my noticing? I'm the only servant here whose drinks definitely won't kill you. Mine are good, but not that good, and the rest are the Queen's or Littlefingers and who knows what they might do? You've made powerful enemies at this tournament. Be careful."
>>
>>19556084
"We shall."
Varys is somewhat trustworthy. I think we don't need to worry about being poisoned by his drinks.
"What sort of powerful enemies? Obviously the Lannisters, but who else?"
>>
>>19556084

Drink it. Then turn to him.

Thanks, but i want to ask you something. You told me and my father about a person. A one that needs our protection. Yet you didnt give any names? Who is this person you spoke of?
>>
>>19556084
"My dear lord Varys, you wound ME. I very well know what danger I am in, just as well as you. I may be simple, but I am no fool. What truly troubles me isn't my own safety, but rather the safety of the realm. Someone must think of the realm, after all. All these nobles seem too caught up in their games of intrigue to think of the future. What is Westeros coming to when a high lord can be assaulted on open street by another House, and no one is apprehended?"
