>>20067945Alright, i think the general consensus is make a castellan there, get sound financial advice there, start expanding the isles and putting gold into them. We need someone to go around, appraise the islands for what they're worth, maybe go ourselves for one week in a month from now. We'll find out what we need to build to make it profitable and sustainable.
Ask Ben, and maybe Cress, about oyster and pearl farming. Could we introduce that on the islands ? How is it practised overseas, if at all ? Could we import better oysters to cultivate ?
>>20067945Do we have a court chaplain? Or whatever the Westeros equivalent is.
>>20067992We're building a Sept, a Septa/Septon should be along eventually.
>>20068004A septon/septa is only a move to attract people to our city, and they won't be here for another year, plus they have no experience administering cities, they're no use in this situation.
>>20068018Someone asked if we had a chaplain. As for the formerly Clawwater Islands it'd help to have a list of people competent at finance.
We could maybe ask the older girls if they have any consel to give about the administration of the islands.Besides thieving and smuggling, to what activities were the efforts of their family applied ? What/who needs support ?
The next day, you wake to a pile of letters, perhaps four or five. You start sorting through them as you break your fast on fried eggs and bread. A ewer of fresh, cold water helps wash it down as you tear into several strips of fatty bacon, carefully wiping your fingers to avoid staining the papers. The first one is from Caswell, brought in by a fishing cog unloading salted smelt and crates of fat, grey crabs. It details the goings on of the islands (basically, nothing) and tells you that things are going well there. The soldiers hold the motte, occasionally wandering the streets in small patrols to make sure that order is being maintained. The archers basically cool their heels on the walls, occasionally holding little tourney's among themselves to keep their skills sharp. Ser Wallgrave writes a more official letter that says basically the same thing, but has a large addendum. It reads: "My lord, with the forces of your house scattered across the islands, I am worried as to the safety of your person. We need to vastly increase our strength if we are to ensure the safety of your new smallfolk, and we must do it sooner, rather than later. Such a deficit of men and ships makes me rather nervous."
>>20068048Summon Ben to our solar, we need to begin tallying who we think is capable of ruling in our stead there as a chaplain/castellan or whatever, and who can advise them.
I advise that we eventually do gain even further relations with the sept, and try to make sure the obviously corrupt don't get into positions of power.
>>20068091the sept sends whoever they like, we don't get a say in who gets the job.
>>20068041The Clawwater families made a fine income from the seas. The islands produce huge amounts of food that goes to feed men from Evenfall Hall to Faircastle. Seal pelts and dye from shellfish goes to wealthier traders and finds itself all over the Free Cities and the Seven Kingdoms. While a man may not be able to live extravagantly from such an income, he can live very comfortably.
>>20068121Well, yeah, but we can at least help make sure they don't pick some money-grubbing charlatan.
>>20068048Getting a few more troops with us could be wise. Can we raise a new unit of infantry.
>>20068048How many troops and ships did we get from the Clawwater lands?
>>20068168We have, after our own men are reformed and our ships are repaired, a fleet of five war galleys being repaired in the Saltmouth docks, a fleet of five heavier galleys in Crabber's Harbor, and a small fleet of five cogs there as well. The Steel Guard and a garrison company are currently in Saltmouth. In Crabber's Harbor, you have a garrison of former Clawwater men, your companies of Archers and Spearmen, and enough war material to outfight perhaps two more companies besides.
>>20068048>>20068160>>20068168Hmm, we could raise a militia unit for the smaller island, a unit of regular infantry and militia unit for the second biggest and later on train a proper garrison for the clawwater castle. That could kept the islands save. After once our fleet is repair we can start making regular patrols.
>>20068228Have those companies shipped here, so they can train under our steel guard. The men will have a taste of the wealth of saltmouth, and will realize what we can bring their homes.
>>20068228>>20068238Crabber's Harbor seen save enough with those troops for now (we might need to replace them went we move them back here) while the other islands will indeed need the militia units.
>>20068277>>20068238The only islands large enough to warrant standing troops are Crabber's Harbor and Bastard's Cradle. The others can be defended from the sea easily enough.
>>20068228we need more men. and perhaps another five ships at least.also lets talk to the girls and see how they are settling in, - we will need some tutors and the like.also see what the eldest one can do - we might use her as a secretary or a hostess for guests, while we are in the solar.
>>20068324Bad idea, using her to represent us as a host is unwise, and as a secretary? ladies don't do that, she should be hanging out with a gaggle of girls or some shit like that.
>>20068324Ladies don't do that. They're mainly supposed to giggle and look pretty around these parts. If we were in Dorne you could be onto something.I agree on the tutors and stuff. Though I think the Steel Guard would still make the best teachers for our new game of Princess Maker.>>20068228We'll make more ships once the lumber starts flowing, and as for men we could use some Cavalry.
>>20068324>>20068331Obudo has it right. These girls are wards, under our protection and aegis, not to be some high-class servants or upper-level employees. However, they also need to be taken care of. They need tutors and fine clothing. They need to be treated well, otherwise our reputation will suffer.
>>20068353They shall be taught well. You have given us an opportunity to mold a twelve year old girl into a combination of Iylaria and Littlefinger. Westeros shall tremble.
>>20068349Cavalry will have to wait a while, we need more sailors, ships and archers, the cavalry are only useful on the mainland or the arbor itself, and these regions are pretty stable, so we don't really need cavalry at all right now.
>>20068353You don't understand. the reason i wanted her to act as such, would be to have her presented to as many people as possible. - in the prospect of marrying her off to someone worthy of noble girls and that she might fancy. you know access to persons so she can illuminate herself on possible prospects.not something we would pay her for, something she should do as a personal favour, and something she would most likely have to pay us.perhaps i have not expressed myself well. somone to chat with persons waiting us in the solar or such.
>>20068423like if we have not arrived or are otherwise engaged. not osomething we can hire anyone, and something a ward could do well for both her and out interest.
Alright, i'm going to sleep i'm feeling pretty dead now, but as a last note i will just say in regards to >>20068430The lady should be studying or hanging out with handmaidens, it just wouldn't be fitting to have a ward from a house we annihilated introducing our guests to our home. We don't know if she still hates us and will say whatever she pleases about us while we're not in earshot.
But before i forget my manners, thank you Princely for another excellent thread and the associated trips and annonymous for a good evening. Good night.
The second pair of letters attracts significant attention, but of a less trying nature. The first is from House Appleton... They have heard a rumor that you are indeed looking for a wife. And they just so happen to have a daughter (apparently one young and beautiful) that they wouldn't have so much as a single hesitation about her visiting you.The second is from your brother. He is pleased to hear that you have found such success. Your father still rules in your families hall, and your sister is betrothed to a neighboring lord there. The family would love to have you back, especially for the wedding. It would be a great thing for them to see you once more, and Combrey would love to hear all about what we have been up to.
>>20068470What do we know about Appleton? Do they have apples, because Reff might be interested in that. When is the wedding?
>>20068478The wedding is i nearly a year, so you have plenty of time. As for the Appletons? They are a house from the interior of the Reach, with enough power to be known to you, but not enough to stand out in your memory
>>20068470I wonder how these things are set up... do we invite the girl for a few days, then decide ? Her whole family ?Will we be able not to flirt too much ?
>>20068501Then let's ask someone else. Maybe ben, or someone in the steel guard that came from the reach ?
>>20068531>>20068508Ser Bushy knows the family. "They are a house of fair standing, my lord. Perhaps not as powerful as some, but certainly respected and known. They have men and gold, and are a fine house, as far as I can tell... Perhaps a bit limiting as to what you want, my lord, but a fair match."As for who would visit? The girl, assuredly, and probably an older brother, cousin, or uncle as ambassador.
>>20068501Good to know.Start looking for a proper tutor for the girls, we can cover a lot of things but there are parts of a lady's education we aren't equipped to handle. As funny as it would be the Steel Guard just aren't the best choice for this endeavor.
>>20068565Hm... that's the problem with this whole affair, we probably won't get any better match than Dalyna and Tracts.
>>20068568Money is already being spread around, and the word is out. Tutors and learned ladies will be heading towards Saltmouth shortly. That problem will solve itself soon.Anything anyone can think about as a pressing concern as we wind down for the night?
>>20068508We're us, we never are able to not flirt too much. It's a gift and a curse.>>20068591We should probably spend some time personally getting the girls acquainted with the Castle and everyone in it if. We should get that taken care of and given the situation it might be best to do it ourself.Dinner, have a nice homecoming dinner and welcoming dinner for the Girls.
>>20068598Yes, they'll live with us, so they're free to hate us, but hate us from up close.
>>20068598Inquiring as to the situation of the girls? Stefanie is refusing to leave her room at the moment. Myrianna does, however, accept your hospitality. You take a small tour of the castle, showing her the walls, some of the areas of the keep, and the River Tower. You try to be as cordial as you can be, speaking with more than a bit of charm. Myrianna doesn't seem to notice much, however. Her face is drawn the whole time, a look determination and grim resolve... You get the feeling that perhaps taking her into your care awas a poor idea.
>>20068654We'll win her over eventually. Stefanie ought to be easier considering how we saved her life.
>>20068654Don't push the charm too soon. We have to respect her feelings, she's got good reasons not to be in the mood for that.
>>20068654I only hope she doesn't try to stab us in our sleep, she's an amateur and would leave one hell of a mess.Let her know that if she wants for anything in our capabilities to provide to ask us, Cargill or Coyle.
>>20068654Also, determination and resolve are good. A lot better than resignation or desperation.
>>20068654>>20068711Actually, tell her that we're relieved to see the resolve in her eyes. Ask her how she'll put it to use.
After your short tour, you return the gloomy Myrianna to her room. You get the impression that she doesn't like you very much... Still, Saltmouth has more than a little in the way of entertainment, and eventually the girls will become a bit more merry. You hope. The meal is a pretty fair thing. A vegetable soup is followed up with small, honey-basted finches on skewers. Next is several huge fish (the best is easily the tuna with the dried, crushed up Dornish peppers), and the final course is stewed beef in dill sauce. The whole affair is just outstanding, the wines perfectly matching. You never really notice when your away but fuck is it nice to be home. Several musicians from the town play during the meal, with the harpist serenading Myrianna so much that she actually turns bright red and sends him away down the table, laughing. It is the first time you have ever seen the girl smile, and you resolve to make sure it happens more often. As the feast winds down, you find yourself sitting next to Ben as the two of you discuss what is to become of the girls, who are down at the lower tables, listening to the musicians. Ben, pretty deep in his cups, speaks slowly. "Just marry them off now, my lord... They won't be happy here, and how could they? Just unload them on some minor lord or rich knight, and count yourself lucky their mother's madness didn't claim them as well." You think about that as you finish the next several glasses of wine before making the slow climb to your chambers.
>>20068783 Cont. The following morning has you being pestered by Terris as he tries to shake you awake. "My lord... I know you mean to sleep late... But there was a raven. There is a raven here. It is marked with the seal of the Tyrells! I didn't know whether I should wait, or... I just thought it might be best if I brought it to you now." You blearily rub the sleep from your eyes, and grasp for the letter. It is indeed sealed in brilliant green wax, the rose of House Tyrell set into it.
>>20068783Will they be happy serving some random lord we decided on ? I think they need a pause for a while, and they need to be together for that time too. One is too young too, I think. After a while we'll have the one choose someone suitable.
>>20068802You did the right thing Terris. When Ravens from Portain, Redwyne, Cargill or Tyrell appear they ought to be considered higher priority than my rest.
>>20068802Oh shit, time to splash some water on our faces and read the letter.
Tearing the letter apart, you relax. At first, you thought it was a call to arms, or some matter of importance... Instead, in honor of Willas Tyrell's nameday, the Hightower's are throwing a tournament in his honor in Oldtown. Men of all Seven Kingdoms are invited to attend, and they grand prize is to be five thousand dragons, and the renown of all the Reach.Reading that, your heart stops for a moment.... Five. Thousand. Dragons. Are they mad? That is a princely sum, a vast amount of money. Such a purse will draw knights from every corner of the kingdoms, lowborn and high alike. You stop for a second, and laugh before the obviousness of it all. What better way to show the glory of House Tyrell and their wealth than having their /bannermen/ host a tourney with a larger prize than any in the last ten years.
Clear our head first I think. It may be good news or it may be dire news but we should be clear minded regardless. It is good to have you back Princely, I grew anxious of the fate of good Dustain.
>>20068831Perfect, we must plan to attend at once. Perhaps we will have a chance to meet up with Robert and unhorse him again.
>>20068831When?Thankfully it isn't that far away so it's not inconvenient to show up.
>>20068844Or perhaps he shall return the favor this time. Do we dare risk it once more though? Our last tourney ended with a most unconventional piercing that we have yet to find a ring or stud sufficient to fill. What am I saying? We are Karban, of course we shall go once again to prove ourselves and flirt with death.
>>20068870And we shall also flirt with ladies.
>>20068844You wouldn't be surprised if a prize like that drew every ambitious lord and freerider between Dorne and the Wall. A man like Robert Baratheon wouldn't miss such opponents for the world. But a prize like that... You are expecting to see men of every land and color, from Lannisters in gold to maybe even Northmen down past the Neck for the first time in a generation. You splash some water on your face, adjust your shirt, and lay back in bed. Five thousand dragons... You try not to get hard. That is a huge sum of money.Dressing afterwards, you grab an apple from the bowl near your table and make your way down to the practice yard. Ser Cargill and Ser Bushy are working the garrison through blade drills, and you are pleased to see the Steel Guard being proactive. You meet the older Ser Cargill on the walls, a heavy quilted jacket on to fight off the morning cold from the sea. He inquires to your health, and then spends the next hour asking about the fighting on the islands, the developments, and the happenings in Ryamsport. At the end of it, he gives a low whistle. "Your lordship has profited very well from those Clawwater fools... And you were kind enough to take the girls in? Too kind, my lord. The Mother herself must be smiling on you. And if you were to marry my niece, well... In less than a decade you would become one of the greatest lords of the Arbor." When we look at him curiously, he gives a hurrumph. "My niece, through my mother's side, is the Lady Veronica. A bit removed, I would think, but my blood all the same."
>>20068863The tourney is set for just over nine months hence, a week after the celebrations for Willas' nameday. While it may seem a bit extravagant, his mother /IS/ a Hightower, so it perhaps is not as showy as it first seems. The garrison ends their drills and heads to the hall to break their fast before their watches start. You and Ser Cargill split up... He is off to supervise the construction of the new gatehouse, and wants the murderholes positions just so.>Today is pretty open ended... What do?
>>20068928No time better than the present to start practicing. Lets get out best riders out and start practicing to joust.
>>20068909Dear god, we have a money fetish as well as a panty fetish. We're fucked up, in a good way.>>20068928What can we spend our wealth on? What options are there for Guilds and Artisans? We should also forge a closer relationship with Lady Jeyne, we need a spy network and she already has one. Caswell is currently out but I think we could visit her sometime, maybe today we haven't seen her for a while. But for this morning check on Terris's education and get some lance practice in.
After you break your fast with your knights, you have Terris help you into your plate... The armor is heavy and bulky, and you thank the Seven that you don't have to wear it often. It limits your vision and makes you slow and clumsy... The again, it is so strong that a lance to the face mearly scarred you, rather than removing your head from your body and placing it on a stick. In the yard, you meet with Sers Cargill, Crane, Bushy, Cordwayner, and Honeyhall. Terris rides with, along with a few younger boys from the castle who want to watch and serve as "squires." Ben accompanies, because (in his words): "If there is another mishap, I would like to be on hand, my lord. If you die, then I find myself unemployed once again." He also insists that Terris take one of the smaller books, a primer on the Seven, to practice reading between the passes.>Roll 7d6 for our days jousting practice.
rolled 6, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1, 2 = 14>>20068985I like Ben, education first.
rolled 5, 2, 4, 4, 1, 5, 2 = 23>>20068985We should try to practice as much as possible in our freetime. 5000 dragons is an insane amount and winning that tournament will make us really well known.
rolled 2, 2, 6, 3, 2, 5, 3 = 23>>20068985
rolled 3, 2, 5, 4, 5, 3, 4 = 26Education and a show what is not to enjoy?
You practice hard until midday, when the sun forces you to break off your practice. Drinking from flagons of cool wine, you and your knights discuss the possible attendants at the tourney. All men of the Reach should be expected, along with a large number of Westerlands and Stormlands knights. The Crownlands and the Vale will no doubt be represented as well... Cordwayner jokes that even Dornishmen might leave their sands for such a purse. Ser Cargill seems hesitant to compete, however. "I do not wish to risk my horse and plate... I am a fair knight, tis true. But I haven't the money to afford replacements or purse to anyone who would defeat me."While Terris practices against tossed rings from Ser Bushy, Ben has an insight. "My lord, were you not discovered at just such a tourney? Think... There will be freeriders and hedge knights aplenty. Many would be eager to find a man such as yourself to serve. Perhaps there is more to be gained at such an event than simple gold."
>>20069053That is an excellent point. It's 9 months away so no need to worry that much about it yet, but we could poach quite a few good knights. Also speaking of knights we got from tourneys how is Honeyhall doing?
>>20069053After your break, you take up practice again. The day ends with you ranked in third place, behind Ser Bushy and Ser Honeyhall, who managed to unseat Ser Crane on one pass, and Ser Cordwayner on another... You didn't think the kid had it in him, but you are pleased none the less. After the fighting on the islands, he seems to have a bit more confidence in himself, which is not something you mind. The boy has fine skills, and might even be great one day... But that would only be if he lets himself be great.Ser Crane seems to be out of it today, and doesn't seem to mind when you beat him (twice, no less) on points. Something is up with him, but you cannot be bothered to ask what during the practice. >On to tomorrow?
>>20069053"The gold is merely the most obvious prize of course. Even with the last tourney I found myself a steadfast young Knight willing to follow me. I have no intention of simply idling away my time at such a grand event. I love good tourney my friend, because it is always rife with opportunity should a man be able to see it. I have a good deal of land to keep secure and prosperous and a need for men to help govern it... I still plan to win the gold of course."
>>20069053Ben brings up an excellent point. I wonder if our brother and other members of our family will show up there. After practice we should ask Ser Crane what seems to be bothering him today. Perhaps over dinner.
>>20069111I agree, but we need to be sure not to pry, there are plenty of problems that a man must handle for himself regardless of his friends and lord's will.>masculinus, cherwalRight, it is the masculine way of things captcha.
>>20069103Ask Crane how he's doing, don't pry but let him know that if he needs to talk about anything we're here for him.
On the ride back, you kinda single Crane out. "I am sorry my lord... Just have a lot on my mind today. On the morrow, I will be my old self, of that you shouldn't doubt. I will even prove it by giving you a matching one of those on the right side." He taps your scar as he rides off, grabbing the hat of Terris' head and making the boy chase after him down the path. He seems sincere enough, and you have no reason to doubt the man. Dinner that night is a muted affair, but still spectacular. A hearty stew of rabbit, onion, carrot, leek, and flaky crust is the main course, served with roasted turnips, capers, loaves of fresh bread, and salty, delicious butter. The beer that the cooks serve with it is also just as good... Definitely a Cargill brew, from those barley fields the western half has claim too near the river. It is rich and malty, and it goes down well after a hard day on the lists.
Hell yes, I'm back baby. And I could not be happier with how you guys have conducted yourselves.
>>20069176I think we can move onto the next day, if there is nothing else important that happens.
The next day brings more practice and more news. It seems that Ser Ben Cargill might be having a squire come to the castle... His nephew, who has idolized him since he was a boy. The boy is of one of the lesser branches of the Cargills and never likely to see land or title, but Ser Ben describes him as a good lad. The idea that Terris will have another boy his age to play with make you instantly accept. Before you can ask, he just nods. "I could ask, my lord. Veronica and I have always been close... And I am sure her father wouldn't mind at all. I will ask in the raven.">Roll 7d6 for another day of jousting.
>>20069216Indeed.
rolled 4, 1, 3, 6, 2, 5, 1 = 22>>20069238Evry day we're practicing
rolled 6, 4, 2, 2, 3, 3, 1 = 21Our good Ben, he makes me want to join with the lovely Veronica simply to have more men like him in our family.
rolled 5, 4, 3, 2, 2, 2, 6 = 24>>20069238Bitching, new squire. And Veronica might come for a visit.
rolled 1, 3, 2, 2, 4, 4, 3 = 19>>20069238J-J-J-JOUST!
>>20069252Dude, I fucking understand that sentiment exactly. My gf's brothers are all awesome. I would wife that girl just for them.>>20069207Oh shit. Hazza's in the fucking house. Lock up your women and grab your blades.Today, we make a slightly better showing for ourselves... But so does Ser Crane. Whatever is on his mind is gone by the time he is on the field, and he leaves both you and Ser Honeyhall in the dust after a few particularly good passes. Terris is getting pretty good at the ring trick now, on his second day. You are thinking about writing his father about having the boy's armor made. After all, Ser Barristan Selmy rode when he was just ten, and Terris is nearly twelve and big for his age. Besides, you know that would appeal to the boy to no end. He practically worships Ser Crane, Doros, and Ser Cordwayner. Being able to take a step towards men like them? It might blow the kids mind. Final tally sits Ser Bushy holding onto a razor-thin lead, with Ser Crane in second and you holding steady at third.
>>20069281He doesn't idolize Iylaria yet? We should fix this some time. Let her show him that some grace and flow is important. Maybe have him watch some of the Steel Guard spar.
>>20069296Oh man if we do that he's gonna have a boycrush on her.
>>20069281It is good to have inlaws that you get along with and respect, such is the importance of family. It would seem Dustain may make a good showing of himself but barring extreme luck... well never mind then. We should perhaps not let the heady dreams of the tourney and unhorsing all the high lords in the seven kingdoms distract us from our actual duties. Perhaps we should check on our small folk with young Terris in tow?
>>20069316Ah but its only our second day of practice. I don't think we should only joust, but during free time when all is running smoothly what could it hurt?
>>20069305Everyone has a crush on Iylaria, one that they know they'll never actually fulfill. She doesn't seem like she's interested in marriage, which is a shame because if she got married to another member of the Steel Guard their kids would be like Syrio Forel mixed with Barristan Selmy.Speaking of Syrio he might not be in King's Landing yet, we could hypothetically recruit him, and Iylaria would know about him so it makes sense.
>>20069296That might just be a bit of the sexism of the culture.... I mean, Terris is certainly afraid of her. Anyone who watches that woman practice is. She is like lightning when she wants to be. Anyone with a working brain would be frightened of that.>>20069316That is a fair idea you have on the ride back to the castle. The next day, you resolve to ride out to the pastures further inland, on the far southwestern edge of your lands, near the barley fields along the river. You should take Terris, so that he starts to get an impression for these lands. You have, after all, been working to teach the boy something of economics. While swordplay is flashy and excited to hear about in tales, it is the smallfolk who hold the power. After all, who grows your food? Who fishes the seas for their bounty? Who labors deep below ground to extract ores and gems? A true knight is one who understands just how vital his smallfolk are, a man who can understand what the true duties of his post are.
>>20069325This I concede. There is no harm in honing our skills and releasing some steam after such a long and arduous endeavor as the Clawwater affair. I simply desire for Dustain to keep himself grounded with the reality of his responsibilities and those whom his success is so tightly entwined with, while his ambition soars and strives to push him to greater heights.
>>20069338Ask Terris to give us his assessment of the lands, how they're doing, what needs improvement, try to see his through process before correcting or making comment on in. Compliment his good ideas, gracefully correct the bad by explaining the root reasons behind them.
>>20069281Hah, I'm pretty damn tired so I won't be contributing too much. Just what I can.I second the notion of touring and visiting the small folk.
Riding out the next day with Doros, Cress, Ser Crane, and your head falconer (an older man named Griff), you head out of Saltmouth and hook south, following the flow of the river. It seems that Ben's lessons on thinking have been actually sinking in. Terris calls your farmers and herdsmen the most important, because they feed the other smallfolk and yourself, which means they are protected and can have other goods. He also notes the importance of the rivermen who are often seen poling up and down the river, netting crawfish in the shallows while boys dive down to look for clams while avoiding the big, brown, ill-tempered river pike. After a short lunch (of cold fruits and flagons of watered wine, served along side strips of left-over bacon from the morning and thick slices of brown bread), you and your men spend several hours hawking, and when you turn for home you have seven rabbits between you. You laugh, as Terris proves himself far more adept than Ser Crane... But hawking has long been a pastime in the Vale, and the boy had probably grown up around far fiercer birds than yours. On the journey home, you have Terris name the trees as you pass, and he does rather well. He calls out the stands of oak and pine left by your woodsmen, can tell the difference between orange and lemon trees by the flowers, and notices which olives are to become the big, fat, black ones, and which are the puckered green that will be turned into olive oil and olive mash.
>>20069426While Doros' critique is less helpful (barley is good for beer, and sheep are good for mutton, while everything else is apparently good for wiping his ass), it is far funnier. Stopping perhaps two hours ride south of Saltmouth, you water the horses at Lanternyard, a small farming community that grows olives on their low hills and takes care of nearly a thousand sheep. According to an older man in the square, his wool probably went towards at least one article of clothing on each of you. You thank him for such a fine product, and give your blessing to a marriage that is set to happen in a weeks time. As you ride for home, you explain to Terris that if he would want to rule someday, he must be worthy for it. You cannot be sure, but you think the boy takes those words to heart.>Roll 1d100 for the rest of the month.

>>20069504You beautiful son of a bitch.
rolled 28 = 28>>20069477Doros and Reff comedy hour is mandatory.also >>20069506raises a good point. we are fucking Karban. lets charm the girls of their feet and establish ourselves as a positive and trusty figure in their life that they will begin to respect and love.
>>20069516damn. forgot dice on. disregard it, i rolled already.
>>20069477That... Might just end up being homicide. You get a raven in return from the Cargills that Ser Ben brings to you. Apparently, both Veronica and her younger sister will be visiting, along with Ser Laurence Cargill's brother, a Ser Stephon. It is Ser Stephon's son who will be serving as his squire, so that seems just fair. Apparently, they mean to stay for only a few days... Certainly less than a week. Then again, the thought of a week close to Veronica isn't unpleasant at all. They will set out on the first of next month, and should arrive at your gates five days later.A good soaking of autumn rain turns much of your lands to mud for the remainder of the month, but you are sure the farmers love it. Perhaps it will be enough rain to get two, maybe even three more harvests from the soil before winter comes... Ben receives a letter from a leaky merchantman out of Oldtown. The summer is officially at an end, with maybe ten to twelve months left before winter falls. It has been a long summer, nearly three years, and you hope the winter will be mild and brief. When Coyle hears such news, he immediately begins to take stock of the provisions the castle has stored away, and you get the feeling that he thinks this is Winterfell or some other frost-bitten Northern hellhole. Then again, you find yourself rather grateful that someone obsesses over such things.
>>20069506Sadly I don't think it'll be that simple. Stefanie might warm up to us once she stops being so depressed, but Myrianna doesn't like us and it looks like she has a goal. Our best shot is to set ourself up as someone who always keeps their word, is good to everyone and hope that they eventually see us from another point of view. We push too hard on them it looks like we're just trying to get them to like us and they'll react badly.
>>20069519Oh shit son, winter is coming.Okay boys and girls its time to decide if we're going to sleep with Veronica when she shows up. The opportunity is there if we care to risk it.
>>20069519Hey Doros. Yes Reff? How many people did we kill? I don't know, I ran out of fingers and inches on my cock? Well I collected fifteen knives and 7 hats from the ones I killed. How many apples do you think you could buy for that? I dunno Doros, let's find out. Hey traumatized peasant girl, we'd like to buy some apples.Doros and Reff, Westeros's finest stand up comedians.
>>20069532Karban sleeps with anything with two legs. As long as said legs aren't a trap.
>>20069543And we think that everything is a trap.

>>20069506They're gonna be miserable for a while. Lets leave them to it, trying to force them to be happy and forget about the turmoil and loss they've suffered could come a cross a demeaning their suffering.
Anyways, as the month ends, it is time to take a look at the books. Gimme dat' d6 for House Fortune and lets see what things look like.
>>20069519Awesome. What can we do to prepare for their arrival? And we definitely need some sort of gift for Veronica Tracts, and maybe something that will soften the mother up.

That puts us solidly in line for two +1's to any two stats we choose.Besides Wealth, what else comes to mind?>Stats:Defense - 3Influence - 42Lands - 4Law – 53Population - 41Power – 15Wealth - 25
>>20069607Wealth is obvious, how about Lands, I want Saltmouth to become a Small City, what benefits will that give?
>>20069607Lands for now. We should consider using some of that power to get more men. Perhaps another elite fighting unit?
Wait are people actually interested in the Cargills now? I mean if so then that gives us something to do during the winter. Look into the murders, not Veronica that would be next winter.
>>20069619More merchantile and building options, a bigger population to draw upon for defense, more taxes... Basically, all good stuff, even if Law does take a little hit.
>>20069607Lands and Wealth also purchase more men.
>>20069629We are undermanned perhaps this is the time for quantity over quality? I usually prefer to have more reliable men than more heads but our recent acquirement of vast territory forces our hand a bit no?
rolled 1 = 1>>20069650MORE TROOPS THE MONSTER RAGING GOBLIN COCK DEMANDS.ALSO FUN TIMES WITH DOROS, REFF, IYLARIA AND THE GIRLS.
>>20069650I think we should first get the Small City upgrade, then we can expand our forces as we see fit.
>>20069687Why dont we put it into lands, then use our lands + wealth to turn Saltmouth into a small city. We can also spend some of our power to get more forces. Sound good to everyone?
>>20069680While the screaming all caps is somewhat of a eyesore, i would not mind some temporary steel guard tutelage for the girls, until proper tutors arrive. Although i would prefer Old Nick and Iylara doing most of it and keeping Doros and Reff as far away as possible. Also, considering our lands and wealth more men are required indeed.
>>20069695This sounds acceptable.
>>20069695yup. and steel guard and the girls the episodes is a must.
>>20069680Doros: Hey Iylaria how are you doing?Iylaria: Hey Reff, Doros. Dustain thought it'd be a good idea to put me in charge of the Clawwater girls, I think he wants to turn them into a twisted combination of Waterdancer and spy. Reff: If you're getting tired of it I could take over. I'm good with children. I could teach them how to not be noticed.Doros: No, I want to teach them next.Iylaria: What could you possibly teach them?Doros: How to ride cows and drink a lot. They'd enjoy it.Iylaria: Dustain said that if either of you tried to take over their education that I was supposed to get into an unarmored sparring match, wooden swords, with the both of you. Are you sure you want to do this?
>>20069695Has my vote. Swapping Wealth for Land is a 1/1 ratio, right? We could do it now.
>>20069724http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rT5on6C1ygMso you want to make them comfortable around stone killers and totally deranged people and warrior philosophers (Iylara is the only one that falls under this.)
>>20069736I think it's 2/1 but It's not a big deal as we make so much money a month it's not even funny. >>20069747There's a couple knights in there and I wouldn't call Ol' Nick or Grey Thom that, ok maybe on the stone killer part. They seem like nice people, hell Nick was a father before his wife ran off with his kids and killed em.
>>20069765Even with that ratio it's definitely worth it.DO IT. DO IT NOW.
>>20069765well they are either stone killers, totally deranged(Doros and Reff) or warrior philosophers (Iylara).Old Nick might be the exception...
>>20069878Not really he falls under ancient veteran that has seen it all. (you know the type - in my time they only gave us sticks and stones, and we had to share the stone.)
>>20069838>>20069747>>20069735>>20069724>>20069702>>20069680so we are going to play princess maker on both of them.dear god are we forsaken.
*poke*
So, are we going to buy up more militia and ships to protect our new holdings? It would be good to at least get started as Pason may die soon.
I think Princely died
>>20070086Yes, two secret galley squadrons in the smuggler bay, where we can hide anything, and perhaps a doubling of forces to be able to hold our lands. mainly pike infantry, archers and marines.
>>20070086That's the plan immediately after we get the Small City upgrade. Also bump/
>>20070105we are going to build ships like crazy, but having two hidden squadrons might come in handy, since we could have either a untraceable false flag element or a surprise strike group in case of invasion, should a call to arms be issued.
Soooo where is Princely?
>>20070325Waylaid by heavy storms off the coast of the Arbor no doubt.
Bumpan
Myrianna hates us now?Can anyone say tsundere?lets charm her pants off of her and get some... anal.
>>20071337We should try to get close to them, but that's probably a little too close.Close enough to avoid her going Theon Greyjoy us, treat them as friends or family, not as the prisoners they probably feel like.
>>20071478indeed. a free-spirited love affair is as close as possible.
>>20071337Killing someone's family, taking them as a ward, and then seducing them to pass the time until we marry someone else would be a really, really low thing to do. Let's not.Charming her so that she would want to sleep with us is fine- if she's thinking of us romantically then obviously she's distracted from our past actions against her family and is preparing to move on with her life, after all- but actually acting on it, hell no.
>>20070325Princely Probably went to sleep. It is usually around the time that he does so since his last post.Anyway, Good stuff princely
>>20071829That rather depends on the point of view.We did not kill anyone in her family. her father was executed as a outlaw. her mother committed suicide, and it is us who go the boys the option to get the black thus saving their life. and it is us who is providing for them.So sleeping with her is not that low, since we were nothing but gracious and as generous as possible to the Clawwatters. Also, i kind of got infected and started to like the incessant demand that one guy has for going anal on every last noble girl, thus technically not deflowering them for their wedding night.
We should be trying to act as a sort of father figure for them.If one develops romantic feelings for us later, we'll deal with it then.
>Through Anal.Sorry, could not resist.
>>20071944And no chance of fathering a natural child on them either. Genius!
>>20072305father figgure is too much.more like a friend, and anything beyond basic needs given to a ward they should earn it, through high grades or extra curricular activities or something. (quick /tg/ devise a point grade system for our would be princesses.)
>>20072507>>20072499Yup. Dustain is a grade A pervert.
>>20072667Well, he is a horny ladies-man, that is for sure. a pervert though would be to a base term.
>>20069607>>20069636I think we should turn Saltmouth to a Small City and then recruit and train some infantry. I could like to eventually build a small tower in Bastard's Cradle.
>>20072510I 4chan ate my post so hopefully it doesn't double post. Basically just because they are out wards doesn't mean we have to treat them like the political prisoners the term usually implies. Their family is gone, and we have the control of their lives usually reserved for a father. We have essentially "adopted" the girls into our house, and they should be treated accordingly. Now don't take this as me saying we should be treating them like our own flesh and blood, but they shouldn't be treated coldly like prisoners who can earn rewards for good behavior.
>>20073045Sounds good
So what are our planned military expenditures next month?
>>20073045Here again, man that posts format got fucked.Anyway, had an idea for a new name for the Clawwater islands.Wavebreak IslesA little homage to our words, thought it sounded pretty boss too.Up to you guys though.
>>20074927Renaming terrain features would evince a level of ego that I don't think we want to show.
Indeed.
>>20076178Its a good name, way no less arrogant than Clawwater islands.
>>20073045cant spoil them rotten.I believe the suggestion was to have them given what would be expected a ward to have. proper status clothing, schooling, etc.But for extra stuff they would have to go the extra mile a bit and do some extra curricular stuff. or do it themselves. something to give them some motivation.
>>20073045>>20076456I don't even know why we took them in, I was against the idea from the beginning. I mean weare the main reason their pass lives are gone. I say he find them a fine husband soon be done with them.
>>20076515Anal, i tell you!for all noble girls in Dustains life.No children. No awkward social situations. No problem.
>>20076512Yes, it was a bit of stupidity fueled by /tg/'s compulsive Princess Maker obsession during a time when cooler heads were offline. But we did it, and now we're stuck with it... whether that means marrying them off or anything else. We can't get rid of the younger one for years, at any rate, and if we keep them around without making progress they'll become a social black mark for us.
>>20076571We could start inviting rich merchants and lords from the outside the Arbor to our castle. The moment the older one finds one that she likes we can arrange a marriage. If she dislike us enough she will be fast to choose someone. If she chooses a rich merchant she can get as far away from us a she likes and we may get a nice dowry.
>>20076676we dont get one. we must give her one.still it kind of depends on the local customs.
Bump for Lord Karban
>>20074927The new name has my vote. But perhaps we should leave the renaming of the place to whatever bannerman we put up there? After all, it will essentially be their territory and their house except that they are entirely owing their allegiance to us.
>>20076456Wasn't advocating showering them with gifts, I was just suggesting we don't make them live super spartan existences with no emotional involvement like a bunch of people are suggesting.Even though they are technically wards, we are essentially their family now that theirs is dead and gone. Personally I think we should aim to be warm to them, being all role model only with no emotional connection breeds a special kind of hatred that just festers. Just look at Eddard and how Theon turned out with that approach. We want them to like us. The kind of relationship like an uncle and nieces, or cousins. Close, but not TOO close ya' know?
bump
Princely come back to us, we're starved for some hot Karban action.
