Anyway I'm pretty green to most of the franchise but I did watch the first episode of Black and from what I remember he was in fact a cyborg of sorts.
As far as R2 goes, I wish the rest of the season could have been as epic as the last several episodes were. I still get chills watching Suzaku completely trounce the Knights of the Round as Lelouch patiently waits on his throne, or when Jeremiah personally fights his way into the Mordred and holds its pilot at swordpoint.
