Evening all, it's that time again.

Previous threads:

Pastebin of character descriptions, will be updated eventually:

At the end of last thread, Märlas had been sacked and its inhabitants enslaved. The mayor of the city had been located, and there was some talk of an interrogation. I also promised that there would be a plot event, so there's that to look forward to.
>>
Feeling magnanimous in his great victory, Gronk decided that his son could take this mate. However, he forbade him to use the word ‘wife’ in his presence again. It was a word that trolls knew not, as it implied being bound to one female. Vulug’s face filled with glee, and a grin that seemed sadistic even to a troll that had torn, butchered and eaten every foe that had ever stood before him. Perhaps Gronk would come to regret this choice, but right now he was too preoccupied with his new females to care. After a night with him, the results seemed hopeful. Only the elf maid had died, and she had proved a healthy snack. The others, while not exactly overjoyed or walking properly, were alive and seemed likely to conceive children for the Big Papa. In a few months, Vulug might have a half orc, half dark elf or even half lizard sibling. Or all three.

The male dwarves seemed destined to pay for the crimes of their races, and served as the food for the next few weeks. Although this seemed to horrify the other residents of Märlas, they would likely have been more horrified if Gronk had started to feast on them. Then it was time to implement his plans for the humans. He sent them, along with a trollish escort, to the outlying farms to collect and begin to use the agricultural tools there. Moruk brought the human mayor to Gronk some days after the humans were sent out, and the fat man looked more terrified than anyone else Gronk had seen in the city. His body guards and enforcers were dead or had fled, leaving him powerless. It was clear that this fat man was less than useful now, other than for any information that might be gleaned from him.

Ah, maybe he/she'll show up eventually. Okay, I'm rolling with your idea. Maybe Squeek. Aldhissla and some other old hands will show up fairly soon.
>>
Gronk questioned him closely about the party of three that had been paid to scout the mountains for trolls. Gronk had eaten two and had the third working for him, but he was curious about the abilities of the old one he had eaten. The human had had the taste of magic, but Gronk had no idea what he might have been able to do, and was therefore unable to benefit from eating from him. Maybe understanding the nature of his dead opponent was the key to unlocking the power that now lay inside Gronk. The fat man could say little of how the wizard had used his magic, only what he had seen. Apparently, the wizard was the sort of magic user that was most common. He had relied on complex incantations and ceremonies to use his power, often ones that could take days. The advantage was that the magic could last forever, particularly if stored in an object. The disadvantage was that the ceremonies had to be exact, and there was no margin for error. Any mistakes would, at best, result in nothing to show for the labours. At worst, the magic would go horribly wrong. This form of magic was known as ‘Occultism’ and took years of study to master. Perhaps it would be less than useful to Gronk.

Looks like we're going with this. Trull, what does Citi-friends mean? And which enemies specifically. I'm asking because I and the mayor would both be confused by these questions, so this is faster than posting an update which contains the mayor feeling confused.

Citi-friends:
>Nearest friendly neighbours of this town
Enemies:
>Nearest not friendly neighbours of this town

this is important if we are making this shithole our fsrming-centre!
will help us to decide how large a defensive force we need to poste here
>>
This news did not please the Big Papa, but he didn’t let it show. Instead, he quizzed the over sized human about the nearest population centres. He asked whether Märlas was on good terms with its neighbours, and asked if reinforcements or a relief force would be sent to Märlas. The mayor confirmed the intelligences that Moruk, Ragnar and Mendal had given Gronk. Märlas was a deliberately situated far to the north of any of the ‘civilised’ kingdoms and as such had no nearby neighbours. The closest outpost of civilisation was at least a week’s travel south, and the lord of the city disapproved of Märlas. He had forbidden any trade between the two cities, so there was almost no interaction from them. The people who needed illegal goods quickly came to Märlas, but always came stealthily.

This is why I need to update the pastebin. Vulug found out quite a bit about Minotaurs, which was posted in one fo the threads. Basically, they always have to move around, to try and find females. As they are best at killing things, they tend to form roaming mercenary bands that travel the lands. Do you want to try and find out if there is another band nearby?

This one is here!

No more questions! Cook-eat mayor-thing and do more important things. These orcs, they could be useful, yes-yes. They must be our enforcers, as trolls are ABYSMAL at breeding, and having a caste of warriors to assist our giant Battletrolls would be very good. This reminds this one, perhaps we could assign families of goblins to each and every troll? That would be the beginning of a nice feudal system, which we could expand by binding orcs, and eventually the other races, to individual trolls, till all the races of this fallen-place answer to and work for trolls their whole lives because society says they must! There is nothing stronger than social pressure to be obedient, no-no. Not axes, nor flames, magic or poison is stronger.

>>
>>26565003
Yes-yes, now is time for clever thinking! Gronk must've eaten a smart-clever skaven to be having all these ideas this one is making.

Set up orcs as our enforcers, and give the goblins security as personal servants of every troll. Man-things to farms, elf things.... Elf things can stay in city-place if they want, help rebuild, make pretty-shiny with tall towers and strong walls to live in. Elf families that offer their maidens up to strong troll warriors like Ashanog get special privileges, yes-yes, for more magic blood in troll-veins. Lizardmen must go to river places, can fish and hunt, be free-er than other races, but must keep watch in wilderness for us, make sure no enemies come. Any halflings here? They could get other races to be obedient, they are very talky-talky and are good at diplomacy.

>>26565010
Maybe orcs can mine? Orcs are very, very good at mining according to the race chart.
>>
Yo. I'm too busy to join at the moment, but I'll be back as soon as I can manage.
>>
>>26565069
>Set up orcs as our enforcers
I disagree, they have yet to prove their worth and loyalty. So they should not be given office as enforcers.
>>
>>26565069

Yes orcs are good at mining, but do we ask them to mine or force them? Could it be like every Orc must spend 2 months in the mine if they wish to fight as breed?
Could be an idea
>>
>>26565069
Squeek, please try to avoid Meta gaming. Gronk knows next to nothing about orcs, except what he has been told. This is why I need to upodate the pastebin.

>>

Maybe we could group al the races together and demand that each group provides a spokesman.

>>

First order of business:
Eat the mayor, and force all inhabitants in the city to bow down in obeisance and worship to Gronk. Those who refuse will be killed.
>>
>>26565164

>>

>>26565208

>>26565164
>>26565218

ORCS
I think we should round the orcs up and make them a offer that would put them in the same situation as the goblins.
Orcs are only slightly less skilled in combat as us by they breed a lot more.
And I think they'd get along with the trolls just fine. And one day Gronks troll-orc son/daughter may rule or residential orc militia.
(this all assumes that these are WAAAAAAAAGH!!!! orcs)

Anyone up for having privileged orc slaves?
>>
>>26565124
Don't eat the mayor. Gather all of the survivors and your trolls together and afterwards, have the mayor declare troll superiority and how, instead of butchering them all, Gronk the Big Papa, Chosen of the Mountin and Eater of the Ash Bringer, has decided to merely "induct" them all into troll society. Then, summon the ash power around yourself and destroy him. Have the trolls ransack EVERYTHING from the town. We can use it to furnish the Dwarven mine.

Then, transport the slaves home. For the non-troll part of the harem, they should be marked and kept away from the rest of their males. They are only for breeding half-trolls now and worshiping the Big Papa.
>>
>>26565368
>privileged orc slaves?
WHEN they have EARNED their privilieges.
this kind of shit is not given
>>
Have we taken the goblin prisoners into our ranks yet?
>>
Bored of talking common quietly to this fat, useless man, Gronk decided this conversation was over. He terminated it in his favourite fashion; by tossing the mayor up and snatching him out of the air with his teeth. After chewing through the squishy human, Gronk went out to see his deputies and take their reports. Denfar said that the inhabitants of the city, who had been herded into a large, unburned building, seemed to be quiet and docile. The only exceptions were the lizardmen. A party of five of them, that had been accompanied by the female, had been railing against their imprisonment. So far, all they had done was shouted at their goblin guards and occasionally thrown rocks, but they were sure to escalate. A runner that had been sent by Moruk from the farming party said that things were going well. Many tools and implements had been collected, but the humans seemed a little confused. They thought they were collecting the tools so that goblins could use them. Many of the humans were fighting men, criminals or mercenaries. They were unlikely to agree with the idea of farmers.

>>
>>26565425
We could run them through some test of loyalty?

Really if the orcs are as warlike as I imagine they'd probably join us whole-heartedly. War is what we trolls do.

>>
>>26565528
Exactly. Considering our mishaps with the Dwarves as well as our human prisoners way back when, I don't think we should be assimilating new races into our ranks all willy-nilly. Even the goblins, who are pretty much troll-kin by now, needed a long time to prove their loyalty to us.
>>

Sorry, but I'm not going to budge as far as assimilating Orcs for no reason other than "they're green" or assumptions based on out of character knowledge. We give all the new races a chance to prove themselves.

As Gronk went to check up on the goblin barracks on the edge of the city, he saw a shape on the horizon. It was a blur of black, about the size of a troll, if he had the distance right. It was also approaching fast along the land. Not wanting to seem alarmed by a single being, but equally wanting to be prepared, Gronk sent for a few trolls to accompany him to meet this new arrival. They stood outside the city, which was still smoking in some parts, and watched it approach. When it drew closer, Gronk realised it was not one being but several. It looked like a box being pulled by several beasts, the ones called ‘horses’. Gronk had been showed the corpse of horse, but never seen a live one. The stables in Märlas were small and rickety and had collapsed in the fire, killing all the horses the city owned collectively. The dead ones Gronk had seen had been thin and sickly looking, with their ribs showing and their hair thinning. The ones here were muscled and healthy looking, froth coming from their moves as they galloped across the frost hardened ground. Gronk wondered who or what was inside the box, as all he could see and smell was death. Behind the horses was a human like figure, wearing black clothes and wielding a whip.

>>
As the vehicle started to close in to few dozen feet, it slowed and turned so that one side was facing Gronk. The door, which was decorated with a strange picture of human skeletons and bats, swung open to reveal a tall, pale, black haired male human figure. He was clad in a colourful jacket of blue and gold, covered by a large black cloak. His boots were shiny and reflective, as were the buttons on his jacket. He walked towards Gronk until he was only a few steps away, and then bowed deeply. Tak-Tak had spent some time explaining the cultural significance of a bow, so Gronk understood the concept. When the figure deemed the bow respectable enough, he straightened up and began to speak.

“Greetings to you from my master, Gronk the Marked. My master is the great and feared Baron of Nefertail, Klaas Velutoe. My name is Branimir, and I have been sent to congratulate you on your victory and extend my masters hand of friendship. Perhaps you have heard of the fiefdom of Nefertail? It lies some weeks travel to east of this city, and we often come here to trade.”

Gronk seemed considered the man’s words, but in truth he was trying to learn more about him from his smell. A creature that fights and kills often will almost always smell of blood and death, even as a baker will always smell of flour. This thing did smell of corpses and blood, but there was something slightly wrong. It took Gronk a few moments to place it, but then he realised. This thing had none of the smells of life. No scents of pheromones, sweat, hot blood or dirt. All he smelled of was death. It was if he wasn't even alive.
>>
>>26566037
Word seems to travel real fast. I'm a bit concerned that someone from weeks east of here knows who we are and that we've conquered this city.

Regardless, this dead-but-not-dead human-thing is strange and alien to us. Best not to tangle with it until we know more about it, I think.

I'm not sure how much use we have for gold—if I remember correctly, Gronk dismissed the concept of currency as being weak and silly (as a Troll takes what he wants by force, he does not barter for it with shinies).

I'm up for haggling and demanding all three, though. After all, how strong can Lord Velutoe be if mere rats are posing such a problem (I doubt Gronk knows what Skaven are, so I'm really not sure he would think to ask if they were "armed")?

Work out the deal, then send someone we trust to get the slaves etc. home.
>>

Fine fine, just don't want us to seem too eager and come across as the "hurr hurr me smash good" troll to this damn vamp. THEY'RE VAMPIRES, THEY CAN'T BE TRUSTED.
>>
>>26567022
You think they're vampires? I had them figured for Undead.
>>
>>26567034
You think a zombie can dress that swag? Nigga please.
>>
>>26567057
Haha, to be honest, the Undead guy in the thread's picture doesn't look like he's dressed all that badly. I don't think it's that unreasonable. Then again, the bats described in the update should've tipped me off.

He's like a good elven lich or something

Stranger smells of blood. Very strange. Inquire more, but be neigborly, or at least cautious. If he smells of blood he must kill things.

Offers this one wishes to make to the stranger are below
-Give stranger our warrior humans in exchange for laborers to do farming
-Alliance against outside forces (risky)
-A leg of dwarfmeat in exchange for a good story
-Elves for gold
-A shank of lizardman for some maps
-Lessons in dorfhead-ball (no exchange required, this is a cultural enrichment program)

And finally, any bulls still looking for fighting can go help this stranger with his "vermin" problem. This one hopes these "vermin" are skaven, oh yes. Imagine, troll-kin skaven, breeding swiftly, but as strong as an orc and as stubborn as a dwarf. They would be good cannon-fodder, yes-yes
>>
This one just realized: We have warrior humans we were going to make farm yes-yes? And they don't know how to? Well, we can send them to fight for blood-stranger and he will give us good slaves in return! Bad humans for good humans!

With a growl, Gronk raised one claw. The other figure bowed his head and waited for Gronk to speak. When the troll did speak, his voice was as low and cordial as he could make it. Firstly he asked about the vermin that he would be fighting against, particularly how armed they were and where they could be found. The pale figure gave a polite smile and described the threat. He talked of strange creatures, smaller than humans but larger than humans, that were like huge rats. They multiplied quickly, far more quickly than the forces of Verultoe, and had swarmed over most of the southern fiefdom. When they had first been encountered, they had been primitive and savage, but had advanced quickly. Now they were utilising eldritch magics, strange war engines and new weapons. In the first battles, Verultoe and his armies had massacred the ‘skaven’ and sent them running. But every time, they had returned with greater numbers and better weapons. Branimir and his manservant, who drove the carriage and was named Ashell, had travelled quickly and set off almost the day after the attack on Märlas. They had flown some of the way, but Branimir neglected to mention how. They had covered the gorund in a week and a half, but estimated it would take the trolls at least three weeks to reach Nefertail and a further week to reach the skaven lines.

Gronk nodded sagely, proclaiming that he would return to the city to spend a little time considering before giving his verdict.

>End for tonight

Sorry guys, I need to go now. I just realised I need to get up early tomorrow, so sleep is a priority and it's late.

Next thread will be in two days, same time. I need to do some stuff before I sleep, so can someone else archive this thread?
>>
>>26567425
Anyone? Shall I just do it myself?
>>
>>26567651
I'll do it, if you haven't already.
>>
>>26567748
No, thanks. I'm out, just rushing past.

Fuck. I missed this thread.

Well, next thread. Just wanna suggest that we take Vulug along with us. It seems like it'd be a bad idea leaving him alone with a dark elf woman. We wouldn't want her corrupting him and convincing him to backstab us, somewhere down the line.
