=====

You are Harry James Potter, and you've had a hell of a ride. Twelve months ago, you discovered that you were a magus, and your best friend's dad decided to take you on as his apprentice.

A lot has happened since then. You had a dream, of your best friend's death on the alter of the San Greal, and of Gandalf sipping tea with a Vampire. You met a new friend, Hermione, who changed school districts to learn under Dr. Zelretch, a famous mathematician who teaches maths at your school. Illya showed you your origin - The Death of Things - at the cost of putting you into a coma for three months. You awoke in possession of the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, granting you power at the cost of subjecting you to the sight of hell.

You discovered that Hermione is most definitely not the Magical Girl Kaleido Pink, and that she is actually Dr. Zelretch's apprentice. You fought a Werewolf, and cut off its tail with a stick. You discovered that you were a Wizard, a different type of Magus who universally possess the Sixth Imaginary Element, Demons. The von Einzbern's took you in as their ward, after Mr. Kingsley had Rita Skeeter slander Dumbledore and the Dursleys in the Daily Prophet.

You met Mr. Malfoy, a slimy politician guy who spent a few months instructing you in Wizarding Culture off screen. You went to Gringotts to get your hands on some of the Potter Family Dosh, including a changeling spear, a dagger that only you can see, and a really awesome overcoat. You had your account manager buy you some stock in an American firm named Apple, and you got your school supplies. You also got a trunk that has a yet-to-be-furnished apartment inside of it, and an awesome golden snake who speaks like a chav.

Illya named him Gilgamesh, after one of her father's allies in the 4th Holy Grail War.

>Field too long.

Right now, you're on the Hogwarts Express. The Head Girl just broke up a fight between you, Illya, Miss Tonks, and some -piece of shit bullies-. Illya was rather upset by the whole thing, as Mami d'Ormelle had traumatizingly generous assets, among other things. You hear the peppy sound of Japanese Pop music getting louder and louder, and a pink glow getting brighter and brighter through the car's front door.

Oh bollocks.

It's Kaleido Pink.

You...

According to Ilya, we made our bed the moment we talked to Zelretch. Time to lie in it.

That said, there's no way it's going to be THAT bad. We're on pretty good terms with Not!Not!Hermione, so seeing as there's no werewolf here for her to need to hulk out and grapple, things probably shouldn't get terribly out of hand.

You've prepared for this.

You've known all along, that this was how things were going to end.

That here and now, in this very moment, Befriending would occur.

But if you have your way, it will not be you who is Befriended.

That no matter what absurd that wand draws for Kaleido Pink from the various fragments of the Kaleidoscope. That even in the face of infinite power drawn in slithers from every possible reality, you would refuse to falter. That you would have the courage to stand against the overwhelming might of the second magic, and spit defiance in the face of one who would raise themselves to the likeness of a God. You understand now, that this is your destiny, something that you can't escape.

You smile in reminiscence.

Even if you die, you can't be killed.

You embrace your beloved Illya one last time, knowing full well what you are about to get yourself into. After a moment, a long moment that seems to last forever, you do as any Hero of Justice would do, and let her go. Turning with the dramatic flair of a thousand shounen manga, you face the doorway from whence the she-devil herself will spring. Your knife in one hand, your glasses pulled off with every ounce of stylistic pizaz you can muster.

Somehow, your shirt has come undone.

No matter. You've got the abs to pull it off.

In a flash of love and FRIENDSHIP, the door to the car slams against the wall, and the room becomes like unto PINK. Your eyes see the truth of things, see beyond this neon flare as your opponent strides into the room. You move forward, even as she strikes her pose.

"HEROINE OF LOVE AND JUSTICE!" Kaleido Pink announces. "Seeker of lost toads, Kaleido Pink has arrived!"

"SO KALEIDO PINK!" You declare. " ONCE MORE YOU HAVE COME, SEEKING MY MAGIC STICK! SO BE IT! LET THIS BE OUR FINAL BA-"

>Field too long.
>>
>>26992947
You cut yourself off.

"Wait, what?" you say. Your shirt has redone itself. "You're looking for a toad."

"Indeed I am, Citizen!" She declares. "A lost pet, beloved by it's master, the Thousand Hopper, Tre-"

"Sorry," Tonks interrupts. "But I feel the need to interject here. The heck are you to doing."

"Facing down my arch-nemesis Kaleido Pink." You say.

"Looking for Neville's lost pet, Trevor." Hermione says.

"What's this about Harry's magic stick?" Illya accuses.

"Why are you dressed up like that?" Tonks demands. "And for that matter, why did Harry nearly lose his shirt?"

"It felt appropriate."

"It felt appropriate."

"No seriously!" Illya demands. "What's with Harry's magic stick?"

"She wants it," You say.

"Well, I did," Hermione says. "But it turned out to be pretty ordinary, except when he was using it. I still want to know how you did that, Potter!"

Tonks seems to have decided to forgo her line of questioning for now, finding it a better use of her time to break out into raucus guffaws of laughter. Hermione looks very confused, and you can almost hear the gears cranking away in her head. Illya of course is horrified, her jaw dropping and her finger pointing between the two of you as if she was trying to figure out which one of you she's more disgusted with.

It takes you a second to...

"Hey guys," you say, retrieving your Mystic Eye Killers that you might be spared the sight of Illya's flesh burning off of her skin. "You know what's even better than hilarious misunderstandings regarding a twig I picked up off the ground and used to cut a werewolf's tail off? Secret Compartments."

Illya calms down a little bit, still sending Hermione a rather questioning glance every now and again. Tonks, unfortunately, simply laughs even harder than before, now intermittantly adding remarks about twigs between breaths.

"But what about Trevor?" Hermione asks.

"Secret compartments that a toad may or may not have gotten himself into," you correct yourself.

"What secret compartment?" Illya asks. "I don't remember one of those."

"You need really good eyesight to see it," you respond.

"Harry," Hermione interjects, "You wear glasses."

"Not in that way," you say. "In the 'let's a guy cut the tail off of a werewolf with a twig' sort of good eyesight."

"What."

"Never you mind," you say.

You grab Illya's hand, and lead the brigade down the hallways to the end of the final compartment. With your glasses on, all you see is a white plaster wall, not even a door leading to the outside. You vaguely feel a sense pressing down on you, telling you that whatever oddities are present here are not you problem, and that you should just look the other way. Indeed, Hermione, Illya, and Tonks aren't even bothering to look at the wall like you are, and have contented themselves with chatting up a girl in red Gryffindor Robes.

You take off your glasses. No real need for a dramatic flair this time, you're not goofing around with Hermione, you're just trying to get some work done. Even if said work involves breaking and entering into someplace that you probably aren't supposed to be. But you know what they say.

Nothing ventured...

(With the removal of your glasses, you are greeted by a vision of hell. Atomic fire, amargeddon borne through the hubris of muggles, the slagging of the British country-side through a bomb never before detonated over this Island. You pay it no mind, it's just a death, one of uncounted millions. Only a possibility, not a garuntee.

You put it out of your mind. It's not like you're seeing Illya die.)

Nothing gained.

You cut the lock.

No, that's not precisely what those line were. Less a lock, and more a series of overlayed charms and wards that blocked off whatever it was that existed behind them. Not simply from sight, but from the planet itself - you can almost see the rush of new data enter in to the mind of Gaia, filling her in on what may or may not have happened behind that ephemeral curtain that cut off the Mother's sight.

Odd.

It's empty.

Well, almost. There's a pedestal in the center, wrought of marble and reminiscent of Greco-Roman architecture, topped with a purple, velvet pillow. A note is placed gently on the pillow, written in a loopy script and green ink. There is also a corpse, sprawled out in front of the pillar - a greasy looking man in a black cloak with a large, hooked nose.

Odd.

You know you should feel disgusted. Horrified. But you don't. You will admit, the corpse is diturbing, an eyesore, but you don't feel anything but mild distaste. And you hate yourself for that.

You contemplate for a moment taking a look a closer look at the corpse, thinking that against all odds he might be alive. But your eyes see not even a stitch of life within that man, not his own, nor of anything like the Draught of Living Death, that might stem the flow of blood and put a stopper in his death. You contemplate laughing, giggling, at how ironic it is - you're the very Death of Things, and the first corpse you've ever seen is one you didn't make.

AND IT'S SUCH A BLOODY EYESORE!

You... you put you're glasses back on. You don't think that after this, you'd be able to see Illya die and not have some sort of break down. That would just be terrible.

You leave the room giggling, swooping off to whatever corner of the train car Illya and the others have gone off to. You begin, in the back of your mind, to wonder whether or not its a bit too late to keep yourself from having a breakdown. Indeed, when you do catch up with the others - Hermione now back to being Hermione, chatting with a pudgy fellow and one of that gaggle of redheads - Illya looks positively worried. So does Tonks and Hermione, for that matter, but it's not their arms you've come to fall into.

"Harry, are you alright?" You vaguely register Illya asking, as you fall into her arms.

"No, I..." You aren't sure what to say next. You've think you need to reassess your priorities in light of this wrong, wrong, wrong bad -wrong-ness that has come into. "I love you, Illya, please don't go away."

"Harry..." Normally, you'd be teasing Illya for turning that shade of pink, but this is anything but normal. "I... I love you too..."

"Okay, that's cute and all," the redhead asks, "And I'm really happy for both of you, but... Okay, I guess the Hogwarts Express -is- a romanitc location. For seventh years. Who have memories here..." He shakes his head. "But really? Confessing in front of two blokes you hardly even know? That takes guts, mate. Or stupidity. What happened?"

"So Tonks," you begin, Illya more than happy to let you use her lap as a pillow. "You're the closest of anyone here to be emotionally mature enough to deal with this sort of thing. What're you supposed to do when you walk into a room with a pedastal, a dead guy, and a note that no doubt reads like a Bond villain gloating over his latest triumph."

Huh.

That almost sounded like something you'd normally say.

"Besides making snarking comments like that?" Tonks says. "Not much. Just keep quiet about it, don't turn yourself into a gibbering wreck over it, and let the people who actually know what the heck they're doing take care of it." She sighs. "And I feel ya - seeing a body dead on the floor leaves you feeling all sorts of helpless, you know. That sort of crap is one of the reasons I'm heading off to boot camp next year to become and Auror."

"Could be worse, too, you know," Neville pipes in. "Death can be a mercy sometimes - whoever got killed, they could've been tortured to insanity instead. Or drawn and quartered. Or put up on a cross to slowly bleed out from a wound cursed to never quite heal proper. Or..."

"Neville," Illya interrupts. "I know we've literally just met, but are you always this morbid."

"Yes," he admits. "I find it helps pass the time."

Illya blinks.

Neville shrugs.

"Carry on then," she says.

"So, as I was saying," he continues. "Right, drawn and quartered. Bleed out slowly. Tortured to insanity... Oh! Right, he could have been flayed too, that's a classic. Or gelded. Or gelded and flayed. Or all of the above, done over a slow amount of time that lets the victim heal, so that when it's all over, you can start again."

===TEACH ME TONKS-SENPAI!===

"Tonks-senpai, Tonks-senpai!" You run into the room, nearly knocking over Tonks-senpai's beloved tea set. "How fucking Shiki Longbottom?"

"Ufufufu~" Tonks-Senpai replies mischeviously. "That's a very good question, Anon-Kun! And the answer is quite simple - the magical power of Eugenics!"

"Eugenics!?" You exclaim, bamboozled. "But I thought that was a Nazi thing?"

"It is!" Tonks-Senpai chirps. "But it's also a Demon Hunter thing! And despite the Triggering Element being called 'Demons', that's merely a shorthand for phenomenon that aren't yet explained! Before they became known for their top-notch Aurors, the Longbottom Family was a clan of Welsh Demon Hunters, that implemented a Eugenics Program to keep their bodies from decaying to the lesser form that Humanity took with the passing of the Age of the Gods!"

>>
>>26996192
Yes, but that doesn't mean we ALSO need to surround ourselves with it.

Some people are naturally prone to stuff like addiction, or cancer, or heart disease. We're naturally prone to the concept of Death. The proper steps to take when naturally prone to something bad is to not be near outside influences that are going to enable or exacerbate the problem.

Also this. C'mon, Neville. This is the kind of mistake that happens when you get overambitious. You have to be the one who sees these things because you can't trust your idiot subordinates to catch mistakes like that for you. And then they follow your orders to the letter and screw up your entire plan by letting the person you wanted to torment die immediately!

Maybe after a little while of taking our mind of the actuality of death with a little fanciful speculative discussion of ancient torture methods...

Okay, just so you know, multiple love interest routes are possible. There are five normal routes, and a few that require addition situations. Illya, Tonks, Hermione, Ginny, and Luna are the normal routes. Prototype-Earth, TONKS, and Nymphadora all require you to piss off Zelretch and have him send you to another dimension.

There are a few others, but I haven't thought of them as much. TYPE-Venus isn't an option, because she all yan-yan for Prototype-Earth in that dimension, though I suppose its Gilgamesh could be a gay option?

"You have a vivid imagination," you inform Neville as politely as you can manage.

"Thank you!" He says, smiling.

"And now I understand," you say. "Your toad, he's terrified of you. Utterly, utterly terrified of you. Which is why he keeps running away."

Neville just grins. His smile has too many teeth.

"Yeah, I know," he says. "But it's easier to play along as the dummy klutz who can't keep track of his pet, especially when a freaking Magical Girl who most definitely is not Hermione Granger shows up and offers to help me find him." He blinks, his smile fading for a moment. "Odd. That denial seems strangely specific - but that can't be right, Hermione's too bookish to dress up in an outfit like that."

You refrain from telling him that that's half the point.

"That's half the point," Illya chimes in. "The Kaleidostick isn't gets in a lot of arguments with her mentor, so as some sort of petty revenge it transforms his apprentices into frilly pink balls of mayhem and destruction. Which is apparently why he gives them the thing, so they can learn to better control the Second Magic."

[WARNING: FAILURE!]

"EVERYONE GET DOWN!" You shout, pushing Illya to the floor as quickly as you can. She hits the ground in time, as do Neville and Tonks.

You don't.

The window of your compartment shatters. The wall is soon to follow, ripped away by whatever the bollocks is going on outside of you compartment. You can't make much out of whatever's going on, between flying the flying debris, the wind tearing at your ears, the sound of clashing spellfire in the distance. You see something, someone, an ill defined shape that looks almost like person slam into the compartment door.

Then everything is silent.

"AVADA KEDAVRA."

That spell.

You know that spell.

Every time you open your circuits, that spell. Cast by -that man-.

A sickly green bolt of energy wraps around you, like forked lightning arcing sideways. Oh it is painful, quite honestly the most painful experience that you've ever had, some cracked fool attempting to force Death upon you. Had you been anyone else, the spell would have worked, your life would have ended, and there would be a corpse where you stood, waiting for the spell to end that it might fall limp like a ragdoll.

But you are not anyone else.

You are Harry James Potter. You -are- the Death of Things. Your Origin cannot be turned against you.

"Why..." the voice rasps. "How... again... -again you survive when the Dark Lord wills you dead!"

You turn to the source of the voice, coming from near the pile of crumpled door, fully intent on sticking your dagger where the sun don't shine. You take off your glasses, half mindedly noticing that Kaleido Pink and some man in black robes have floated into your compartment, and mended the wall. You really don't care.

This fucker is an -eyesore-.

You don't really care about the newcomer's snarking, though you are more than willing to let it be the symphonius chorus that heralds the [death/murder/pain/agony/SUFFERING/emptiness/nonexistence] that you plan to inflict upon this fucker. This mother fucking fucker who cast -that spell-. The spell cast by -that man- when he killed your parents. The spell that could have taken Illya away from you, had you been only a hair slower.

Slowly, trudging like a doll on faulty strings, you wade through the remaining debris.

"H-how?" that fucker demands of the world.

"How what?" the Black cloaked man replies. "How did you fail to kill the boy? I honestly couldn't tell you, though I imagine that dear Lily's wards may well have had something to do with it. Her spellcraft would have surpassed even the Dark Lord's given enough time, had she lived."

"N-no..." that fucker. He's ignoring YOU! "No... how... I... I KILLED you, Severus?"

"Indeed you did," the black cloaked man - Severus, apparently - acknowledged. "But let me tell you a story, while the boy finishes the job."

Kaleido Pink looks ready to protest. Severus cuts her off.

"You see, Quirinus, one day many years ago a young boy had a close encounter with death. A... friend, I suppose, had become a werewolf and hid himself away, but the young boy did not know that." Severus pauses, and pulls out a cigarette. "And the young boy, he nearly died. And the young boy thought - how will I know that the world keeps spinning, if there is no me to see it?"

>Field too long
>>
>>26997716
You stand above the man - Quirinus - your knife in hand, hatred burning in your eyes.

"The young boy may have had an ego," Severus acknowledged, "to think that the world would not go on without him. But the young boy wished to live, to escape the grasp of death. So the young boy to took his potions, and crafted himself a homunculus, whose essence was drawn from his own blood.

"But this one was different. Or rather, it was the same as that young boy..."

You stab one of the man's lines.

"Body..."

You cut upwards.

"Soul..."

And finish the job.

"And mind. And when the young boy looked upon the work that he had wrought, this masterpiece of the alchemical sciences, he wondered: was there anymore need for him?"

We just no-selled Avada Kedavra because we ARE Death, Destroyer of World.
>>
>>27004494
Haven't really had the opportunity to set any specific projects yet. What does Serpensal even mean?

I return to restate my original idea from months ago that we have one of our ribs taken out and use our blood or something as the core to make an Origin Wand. (Might need to speak to someone slightly shadier than Ollivander for that kind of custom work, or do it ourselves).

>>27000021
He also had entirely different alternates planned for each of the seven other reincarnation options (probably in broad strokes then came up with specifics for Ryougi). If they'd picked Dumbledore, Tom Riddle would have been a perfectly stand-up guy who teaches DADA at Hogwarts.

This makes me really want to know what different differences we would have gotten for picking a different person to be close to or a different origin. Would Neville still be Nanaya or was that specific to us having MEoDP? If we'd picked Zelretch would the Kaleidostick be making us run around in a frilly dress? Who was the priest lady we never actually met? Please give us some background Professor.

You look upon the work that you have wrought.

Odd.

There isn't any blood.

The man is dead, of course - nothing of this world will live when you decide to kill it. His lines are inert, the only death you see is his body falling apart, succumbing to the decay brought on by the death of the soul. But even like the corpse you saw in the back room - the corpse of this Severus fellow, who didn't die when he was killed - you don't really feel anything. Nothing more than a small tickle in your stomach, as if the death was just some cosmic joke there for you to laugh at.

So you do.

Neville gives you an appraising look mixed with shock and a touch of fear. You vaguely register Illya wrapping her arms around you like she was some adorable albino blanket. Tonks lays back on the repaired seat, not so much shell shocked as she is annoyed with herself for letting -you- land the killing blow. Suddenly Hermione returns to the room, just after Kaleido Pink disappears, horrified at the dead body on the floor.

Snape's really the only one who has it together. He's probably used to this sort of thing by now.

"Potter!" Severus' drawl snaps. "Ten points from Gryffindor. If you have a mental breakdown from killing one of the Dark Lord's minions, I loathe to think what will happen when it comes time for you to face the Dark Lord himself."

"Sir, he's eleven," Tonks points out. "Disregarding the whole 'Sanctity of Human life' thing that, you know, is considered normal by most people, I think his age excuses him."

"You may have a point." Snape admits. "Five points from Gryffindor for talking back to a professor."

"Sir, I'm a Hufflepuff."

"I know what I said, Miss Tonks."

You try to push the fact that you just killed someone out of your mind. You need a distraction. You...

Though it's also thoroughly possible that he would've stood up to them anyway, not out of concern for the tormented, but out of general hatred of tormentors. Doing the right thing tangentially by virtue of ill-intentioned selfishness does not exactly a hero make. But hey, if people want to believe it, we're not going to run around telling them otherwise. You raise your hand.

You honestly can't be sure what raising your hand is meant to symbolize in this sort of situation, what with you being cuddled by your (kind of sort of ish?) girlfriend as you kneel laughing atop the corpse of your fallen enemy. Is it some sort of surrender, to the authority of this Severus person? Is it an acknowledgment of your respect to the power within the school that he nominally wields?

Are you just overthinking this beyond all reasonabl terms?

"Professor, if I may..." You say, not entirely sure where to go with this. "I haven't even been sorted yet. And honestly, considering that the closest thing I have to a father is essentially a Hit-Wizard who cheats his way into taking out dark wizards who are a hell of a lot more powerful than he is. Very few scruples." You look up and think for a moment, pondering. "Honestly, I think I'd probably be best sorted into Slytherin, all things considered. There or Hufflepuff, at any rate."

"Potter." Severus says. "15 points from Gryffindor for talking such nonsense."

"Hey!" Illya says. "What's all of this nonsense about points, anyways? What, do they have a brown nosing meter at school or something, and the Brownest Noses win some sort of Trophy?"

"Actually," Hermione says, "The Point system is meant to..."

Right as Hermione was about to go into a long and informative infodump regarding the nature of House Points and the long and proud history of the House Cup, the Universe Remembers that its nature is non-conductive to such tomfoolery. At that moment, an unlikely Red Head proves to be the Hero the Universe needs, and barges into your compartment. Flanking him, a tall fellow who looks mature for his age, though that might just be the beard he's sporting.

And of course, said Red Head arrives with the utmost tact.

"Oh hey guys, I brought Edwa-" His foot collides with a mysterious lump of flesh and bone lying on the floor, and he looks down. His face turns a ghastly shade of pale, his eyes widen in horror as comprehension dawns as to what said lump of flesh and bones was.

"HOLY BALLS ANOTHER ONE?" He yelps. "What is -with- you people and dead bodies! You come in, announce to the whole bloody world that 'Oh, Ronnie, there's a Dead Body on the bloody fucking Hogwarts Express, the safest train on the planet!' And then- and then- and THEN, when I get back with the Head Boy so that we can at least report that shit to the proper authorities, THERE'S ANOTHER ONE?!"

"Ron," Edward says. "It'll be alright. Maybe. Professor Snape is here, and..."

"NO!" Ron announces. "No, this is -not okay-!"

If we were ACTUALLY going to be sorted into Slytherin, we'd have decided that if it was inevitable that we'd be sorted somewhere besides Gryffindor, we should be doing as much as physically possible to irritate Snape in order to have him mistakenly remove as many points as possible from a competing house.

We're not quite there on the absurd plotting yet, unfortunately.

If it wasn't for the FIRST dead body, he'd have still been in the compartment when this SECOND dead body was still an alive body hellbent on throwing green laser beams at people to try and make THEM be the second dead body, so he's welcome.

All we ask in return is his solidarity against the tyranny of his younger sister.

Ask Ilya or Tonks or someone to assure us that this is a totally reasonable assumption and we're not just being discriminatory.

Unless we made the perfectly reasonable assumption that anything we say will result in deducting points, and that by saying he'll be stuck with us, he'll get rather upset and be forced to keep talking, thus deducting more points.

"Yeah, no, I agree with you wholeheartedly," You inform 'Ronnie'. You also sort of pull Illya a bit closer to you, if only on the off chance that some other dark magic wielding maniac will fly in out of nowhere and try to kill her. And you. And all these other people. And Illya. "Not exactly my ideal trip through the countryside towards a bright and sunny-happy magic school of magic. In my defense, it's not like any of this was -my- fault."

Tonks gives you a pointed look.

Hermione gives you a pointed look.

Illya squeezes you a bit tighter, and you swear you can hear her mutter about how "It's all going to be alright Harry. Papa said the first time you kill someone was always the hardest..."

"Potter," Snape snaps. "Ten points from Gryffindor for lying through your teeth."

"Hey!" you retort. "It's not my fault you decided to get all philosophical in the middle of your fight with that guy, going on and on about whatever sort of bullshit magic you used to survive being killed! Someone had to put the threat down before he killed Illya!" You pause for a moment. "Or me. Or you guys. Or just walked off and blew up the train. The sportsball was totally in your court, the goal was yours to hit a home run!"

"Wait wait wait wait wait!" Ron insists. "-You- killed this guy? Tell me he was at least evil, and that I'm not sitting in the same compartment as a psychopathic murderer."

"Ron," Tonks says, "What part of 'going to kill us all' did you not hear. He even tried to Avada Kedavra Harry, though given that Harry's still alive, his aim must have been off."

"Yes!" both you and Snape say. The two of you share a look, before you continue. "His aim was -off- by several meters, that's why I'm still alive."

"Okay, good, uh, I guess." Ron says. "Killing villains is... good. Yeah. But what about the other one?"

You defer to Snape's expertise. And by defer, you mean that you choose not to open your mouth and taint whatever the truth is with whatever bizarre misinterpretation of the data you would have. All things considered, you're not really sure whether or not the Severus before you right now is actually Severus, or whether he's just a Homunculus. Wait, no, that's a horrible thing to say - Mrs. Irisviel is a Homunculus and Illya is therefore -half- Homunculus, but that doesn't make either of them any less people than people who were born normally.

And this is exactly why you're not going to open your mouth. Because not only will you get distracted by philosophical ramblings on the nature of the self, but you're not entirely sure that Snape wants anyone to -know- that he has this whole clone thing going on.

"Relax, Mr. Weasley," Snape says. "Mr. Potter was simply hysterical - he did not realize that while I -was- grievously wounded and laying in a puddle of my own blood, I was -not-, in fact, dead. For you see, I had prepared on my person my own concoction, a modified version of the Draught of Living Death, meant to suspend my body whilst the imbued healing spells worked their magi-"

Odd.

That infodump went on far longer than one of those should; you aren't aware of that personally, of course, but you know by now that people who try to impart long winded explanations while you're paying attention in the metaphysical sense. It's almost as if the world is waiting for someone to show up, before it enacts its own measures to punish the person imparting such long winded...

"Alright everyone down! This is the Department of Magical Law Enforcement!" A voice says. No one really pays much attention to it, though - Snape continues rambling on Potions theory, Ron is too distracted by said less to notice. Neville is grinning, as though he knows this mysterious person, and Tonks...

Tonks looks like a swoon fangirl.

"Ohmigod ohmigod ohmigod!" She squees. "It's..."

"Auror Regulus Black..." Snape finally acknowledges. "Shouldn't you be off hunting down vampires or some other dark creature, rather than debriefing school children? As decorated as you are, I'd imagine this is well below your Pay Grade."

"Indeed it is, Severus!" Regulus declares. "But! The safety of our children is of the UTMOST importance to the DMLE! They could afford to send none- NONE but the best we have to offer."

"Good," Severus replies. "I don't suppose you'd mind taking up the position of Defense Professor, then? We've already lost ours..." He points at the dead body. "And doubtless Dumbledore will reject my application. Again."

>>
>>27007964
I wasn't trying to insinuate that he actually WAS inept, just that we didn't actually see him doing anything to imply competence in-character.

For one thing, the only display of skill we actually saw from the enemy that we have no way to know was pseudovoldemort was busting in, cursing us and then panicking when it didn't work, falling over and letting us shank him with abandon.

Think about it from the apprentice-of-Kiritsugu point of view. Kerry would see it as an amateurish performance, at best. You don't shoot someone, notice it hit their bulletproof vest and then go "Well, gun didn't work. I give up." You try other things.

Now imagine based on that mental image of the aptitude of your enemy that this enemy got the drop on Snape once already. Doesn't exactly paint an excellent mental picture of his skillset, regardless of how we might be underestimating it.

"Why would Professor Dumbledore reject your Application, Mr. Snape?" You ask, genuinely curious. He seems competent enough - in as much as you had the right to judge the competency of someone who survived dying. Even if he did leave you to do all of the heavy lifting - and from his words, you imagine that it may well have been some impromptu 'practice' for facing down this Dark Lord fellow he mentioned. "I mean, I -saw- what some of those wards hiding that room did, for all intents and purposes that compartment didn't even -exist-. Anything that could break into -that-, without breaking down the wards..."

"The position is cursed." Snape states flatly. "Everyone who has ever taken the position has found a reason to not return the next year - usually, said reason involve horrible accidents in or outside of the classroom. Like that fellow who got gored by the Chimera he was using as a demonstration."

He looks at the corpse.

"This, I believe, may well be a record," He says. "He goes on a one year hiatus from teaching in an attempt to fool the curse, and the day before classes begin on his return year, he winds up dead at the hands of one of his future students."

"Wait," Regulus says. "Did you just invite me to die?"

"Wait," Tonks says. "Did you just invite Regulus to die?"

Severus smiles.

"If the position's cursed," Ron asks, "Why the bloody hell would you -want- the thing?"

"Oh, I have no doubt that I could break the Curse," Severus says. "Or, at the very least, I have more... reliable... methods of circumventing it than most of the others."

You...
>Ask whether or not anyone else feels this room is getting a little corpsy.

>Ask whether or not anyone else feels this room is getting a little corpsy.

Death may not bother us all that much, but just leaving corpses laying around in a train full of school children, and in the same room where we're trying to hold a conversation, just seems wrong somehow.
>>
>>27008477
Except I'm sure that we're ending up in a different house from Illya, considering the mirrors.
>>
>>27008504

So he refuses to break the curse until he gets the job?

Tell him it's only blackmail if the other party understands what you're doing.
>>
>Ask whether or not anyone else feels this room is getting a little corpsy.

Don't corpses start to shit out all their innards after dying?

I'd imagine it would smell.

It's going to start smelling soon, you know.

>For all we know he was one of the guys responsible for putting the damn things up in the first place
though in retrospect trying to argue that we didn't have a gauge of his actual ability and then mentioning the fact that maybe the reason he got in without breaking the wards was because he might have been capable of MAKING the wards seems kind of silly.

>>27008504
>Ask whether or not anyone else feels this room is getting a little corpsy.
"Yeah, this guy isn't exactly getting any less dead. We should probably stop standing around him like we're telling campfire stories, at the very least."
>>
>>27008548
If we want to be in the same house as ilya, all we need to do is ask the hat nicely. We want to look after her. Hat is not a jerk.

Could we kill the corpse to get rid of it?

I'm gonna vanish for a while in a couple of minutes. Probably gonna get dinner, then force my bros to sit through KnK Part 6.

Yes and no. You kill the Concept, and the object dies in response. That's how it normally works. The component parts remain, however.

Can he even do that? How many curses he handled in his life already? Would he say *WHOOSH* ten million?

>Does anyone else think this room is getting a little too...corpsy? I think I need a glass of water...and candy. Hermione, Illya, Neville, and Ron was it, let us go get candy as innocent first years who don't want any trouble and probably* don't want to think too much about the last several minutes.

WEASLEY TWINS, YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO. GET TO SUBVERTIN'!

Neville is a morbid mother fucker, our existence is based in Death, and Hermione is basically a Hermione conglomerate.

It was mostly an excuse to get out of the room and away from impending plot dump. Also, we killed a man, it is time for chocolate frogs and assorted sweets while making friends with our peer group

Celebratory chocolate then. Also convincing Ron we are definitely not the next Dark Lord.

I'll concede the point. Super Ginger should be on our minion retinue, not working against us.

>"The two of you are not permitted more than ten consecutive minutes of hugging per hour."

We just have to let go for a moment every nine minutes then hug again. Exact words.

Also it says nothing about cuddling which is totally distinct from hugging because.
>>
>>27008921
Kerry would just change the wording.

He isn't like some idiot traditional Magus who would let themselves be fucked by a poorly-worded verbal agreement.
>>
>>27008975
We just have to hide in her dorm, instead. Men can't walk into the girl's dormitories, for some reason, as I recall it.
>>
>>27008997
that would keep us out too, and the motive you have is the exact reason for why it does that.
>>
>>27008997
Literally, because a wizard did it. Specifically, the Founders.
>>
>>27008997
>Hide behind wards
What was kiritsugus element and origin again?

No, we can brace ourselves against Ilya and walk on the wall.

>>
>>27009108
Harry still needs an outlet. Either he kills things that he can get away with, or he goes crazy and kills things regardless.
>>
Our trunks have built in rooms. We specifically bought them to act as portable workshops.

All we need to do is either, find a way of linking the pocket spaces, say a doorway that's lockable from either side that we can use to get from one to the other. A pair of linked notice boards might not be a bad idea either. Or, we have ilya hide us in the trunk whilst she takes it in to the dorm, bypassing the wards.
>>
>>27008997
>>27009049
I'm sure that given enough time we can create a back door if we're so inclined, especially since we've got help on the inside.

Magi are much better at solving problems than Wizards, unless the Wizard has a "solve that specific problem" spell, or he's one of the few genius-level Wizards who can make up new spells on the fly.

This >>27009152 seems like something to look in to when the time comes.
>>
>>27009152
If we wanna bypass the founders' wards and shit, we're probably gonna have to rely on Thaumaturgy to do it. Due to Potterverse Magic being largely stagnant, anything that uses it is likely to have been planned for. But the clever application of Thaumaturgy was probably not planned against.
>>
>>27009339
>being largely stagnant
This always got me. The people who do make developments seem to keep them at least partly hidden, like a magus would, and the people who are strong enough to brute force what they want stick to the half-assed spells they learned forever ago. But there's no real reason for them to do either of these things.
>>
>>27009386
Centuries of tradition. "We've always done it this way" is a powerful motivator, especially when its been show to work.

In the context of this Quest, my theory is that their magic was originally designed as a way to bypass the whole Conservation of Mysteries problem that Magi have, since most Wizards don't seem to have a single clue WHY their magic actually works. This is why they can all cast identical spells and not suffer a massive drop in power like a group of Magi would, they don't actually understand the Mysteries behind it and they're just doing it by rote. This willful ignorance eventually just became a societal norm.
>>
>>27009386
wasn't there a line somewhere in the goblet of fire about how spells are discovered, rather then invented.
>>
>>27009570
Well seeing as its been established that you don't have to actually say something to cast a spell, I'd assume they just make up an incantation that makes it easier to concentrate on succeeding.
>>
>>27009570
Forgotten, mostly. Then perhaps discovered later.
>>
>>27009339
>change gender
>dress up as maid
>??????
>PROFIT
>>
>>27009789
IIRC, the wards can detect things like polymorph potions and stuff like that.

Presumably the Founders had the forethought to realize that students would be a bunch of shitheads who would try to slip by on any and all technicalities.

It'll probably be Magecraft or bust if we want to get in there ever. Unless we just kill ourselves a way through the wards, but that seems like a bad idea since we have no way to repair them, and I don't fancy leaving a gaping hole in the wards protecting Ilya from the predations of perverted teenage boys.
>>
>>27009848
You mean arming ourselves for a practical demonstration of why what's ours is ours, right?
>>
>>27009039
>What was kiritsugus element and origin again?

His elemental affinities are Fire and Earth.
His origins are Severing and Binding.
>>
>>27009962
pretty sure it was a rhetorical question
>>
>>27009962
He was saying that stonework and magic wards aren't going to do shit to stop Kerrytugu. I conveniently forgot that the proposed was something he was a natural antithesis to.
>>
>>27009546
>>27009651
The best part is, this would mean it could potentially be possible for us to "invent" a spell by doing something via Wandless magic in tandem with a precisely chosen arbitrary name, pronunciation and wand gestures.

An outside observer will see the actions we perform and the outcome of our spell, and so long as they believe strongly enough that the two have a causal relationship, the driving force behind wand magic could allow them to duplicate the actual spell using fabricated triggers. Which, when managed successfully by any one other party, will strengthen peoples' belief that the spell is genuine, and create a snowball effect which will ease the casting of the new spell for further learners.

In fact, it could even be the case that the majority of spells that have EVER been invented originated this way. (If not through willful deception by an outside party, then by a powerful enough seed of self-delusion.) After all, Great Trolls of History Hall-of-Famer Merlin was a key wizarding figure, and this seems like the kind of reality hack that would've been right up his alley.
>>
>>27010033
That makes a terrible amount of sense.
The unfortunate implication is that if we say anything while using our MEoDP it could create a spell emulating their abilities usable by all.
>>
>>27010033
That's an amazing idea and it works perfectly with every wand magic user having the affinity of the Sixth Imaginary Element.
>>
>>27010158
But all we would need to do is tell people that we have special magic eyes and that the magic won't work with our the magic eyes.
>>
>>27010033
You might be on to something there.

And if it DOES work that way then not only are they bypassing Conservation of Mysteries, they're actually having the opposite effect. THAT might explain why they're capable of casual low-grade True Magic.

>>27010158
I doubt they could replicate MEoDP. Superficially similar effects sure, but they wouldn't actually know what they were seeing when they witnessed us using the Eyes unless we sat them down and explained it, which would then prevent them from accidentally creating an ignorance-based spell.
>>
>>27010226
We should not inform people we have the Mystic Eyes of Depth Perception. That just reeks of bad idea.
>>
We're on page 10 now.
>>
>>27010245
I don't think we can reveal it to a worse person than they did in Tonks Quest: Uncle Tom Riddle.
>>
>>27010269
I really don't think that's that bad. We can do a lot worse here, somehow.
>>
>>27010248
this.
we should probs get a new thread soon.
>>
>>27010320
Professor will do it when he gets back, I'm sure.
