What would a planet full of autonomous robots that have long outlived their biological creators do if a crew of astronauts encountered them by accident?

I've been galaxy building recently and I'm quite fascinated with the idea.
>>
>>27496776
...Just play "Engine Heart".
>>
>>27496784
That doesn't even remotely answer his question faglord.

And OP, that depends on what the robots were actually built for.
>>
>>27496793
>That doesn't even remotely answer his question faglord.
It answers it. But you need to have a brain to comprehend that, little one.
>>
>>27496776
What they're programmed for.

I don't think we will have enough forethought to program our robots to have the appropriate reaction to meeting intelligent aliens.
>>
>>27496793
I imagine if it were a more basic race they would be non-sentient, to an extent, unless they were self replicating. In which case I have no idea what a robot society would look like.
>>27496784
Engine Heart has been floating around here a lot lately. Enlighten me.
>>

>Engine Heart has been floating around here a lot lately. Enlighten me.
It's a little, amusing game based on the concept of robots surviving the apocalypse and the fall of Man. Without their fleshy overlords they still try to follow their software and do their job.

I believe it's one way to answer your question. Alternatives? St. Lem had plenty of stories involving robot. Matrix without people. Transformers.

>But you need to have a brain to comprehend that, little one.
but alas, not a functional one

OP here again. Let's not turn the thread into a shitfest, alright? I think what the first guy meant was that engine heart doesn't have rules for alien encounters, probably. No reason to get feisty.
>>
>>27497031
Huh, was going to upload Engine Heart but it seems to be in the PDF upload thread already.

It's pretty cool, I'd recommend it.
>>
>>27497031
you are no fun

Never done the smaller version of a thread link, but here it is. Forgive my ignorance of not knowing how.

Now you know, and that's ok.
>>
>>27497143
... Oh, it converts it for you. Sweet deal!
>>
Depends.

Non-sentient? Exactly what they did when their creators were there.

Sentient but not self-replicating? Survivors are overjoyed at the sight of new masters to serve, if they're of the same species. If not, then have it vary based on the previous species psych profile.

Sentient and self-replicating? Their databanks are insufficient/partially corrupt. They worship biological sentients as gods or creators.

After reading through that pdf, I had some pretty fascinating ideas pop through my brain.

I could end a session with the crew descending onto this mysterious new planet, and then for the next session switch systems to do a "one-off" where they control a bunch of custom made robots, who go about their business and eventually encounter some weird jelly beings wearing exosuits to compensate for the gravity.
>>
>>27496776
Nothing....at first. They would merely continue to go about "business as usual;" check out Rendezvous with Rama for inspiration and good examples of autonomous machines giving zero fucks whatsoever about the equivalent of "mice" showing up in the factory. Assuming that the astronauts do not go out of their way attempting to "contact" the machines or otherwise interrupt their duties (by capturing or destroying one, for example), the machines will continue to ignore the "tourists."

This lack of reaction might gradually change given interference by the interlopers. There might be some sort of gestalt intelligence at work, however, much like a hive. At first, machines may be tasked with removal or neutralization of increasingly hostile astronauts. Eventually, the gestalt intelligence may adapt, sort of realize contact should be made, and spin off a discrete AI specifically to interface with the astronauts.

Its greeting may be mistaken as something other than a greeting.

I remember a comic where earth has been wiped from human presence because we bombed ourself to shit (who would have imagined that)
But our robots still followed their protocols and keeped building more atomic missiles.
When an alien race tried to conquer earth the were absolutely buttraped by our automated defense system because apparently Atomic missiles are very rare in the galaxy. Well not so much here.
If only I could remember the name of that comic.

It would really depend on the AI complexity. From Makerbot drones with warped base and ABS spaghettis trailing from their head to a Replicator planet that looks like an early Coruscant complete with android population anything seems reasonable.
>>
>>27496776
That would depend on the characteristics of the native robots and the astronauts in question. What do you have in mind?
>>
>>27497931
The astronauts are just searching for anything that might enable their warp drive to work again. The robots, I honestly don't know. I imagine there'd be all kinds of different sorts.
>>
>>27497967
I'm presuming that the astronauts are human, both physically and psychologically.

As for the robots, a simple solution would be to make them non-sapient, following the last set of order or directives given to them by their alien masters. They would only notice the astronauts if they interfered with the robots' orders, in which case the robots would remove the resistance in the most efficient manner.

Too many answers to that question. Better to ask people to think of the most interesting answer they can, and discuss the best posted.
>>
They'd want to fuck the aliens.

Because the AIs are created from the base of sexbot intellects meaning they have hardwired into themselves that they need to pleasure organics.
>>
>>27498898
I think that's what he meant. OP did mention he was world building after all.
>>
>>27496776
Doesn't it solely depend on their programming and what they were used for? It could be anything. Be more specific.

"RSA Control, this is Surveillance D203, reporting unidentified contact exiting spatial anomaly. Incoming unidentified contact. Please advise."

High above a bright blue planet in a remote solar system, a strange conglomeration of plastic and silicon watched with great interest as a small starship dragged itself out of a semi-stable wormhole. Every second of the starship's transition was captured in glorious high-definition video and sent down below, to the command servers of the Robot Space Administration.

It didn't take long for the servers to combine scans from a dozen surveillance bots, including the closest, D203, and assembled a comprehensive analysis of the strange ship. They did their job quickly and efficiently, as is the robot way.

Declaring that the ship was not an immediate threat, head command server Bob ADM-031 called off the imminent attack program running at Robot Laser Command and ordered the deployment of an ambassador unit. Surveillance D203, luckily positioned only a few hundred kilometers from the alien ship, dutifully ejected a contact package.

Barely a minute after their downward transit through an uncharted wormhole, the crew of the shuttle Granson, still reeling from the effects of severe hyperspace torsion, noticed a soft tapping noise coming from their main airlock.

External cameras quickly focused, and the shuttle crew were greeted by the image of a tall, plastic robot waving at them. It was wearing a suit and gripping a briefcase. And smiling.

I'd have to side with this guy on a point - I can see there being defense robots which'll try to disable "invaders", and I can see there being a chef robot that'll try to make them a pie.

>>
>>27496776
Robots would ask themselves "why are we on a planet in the first place, a planet has nothing to offer robots"

Robots don't live on planets unless they are dumb robots
>>
>>27496776
The answer to this depends on whether the robots have some capacity to evolve or refine their own designs and whether there's anything in place to kill or degrade them.

If they're eternal, then some of them will go on doing things exactly as they've done when serving their creators. If they can die or diminish (i.e. they can go senile or just forget things as their memories suffer bitrot) then slowly their society will change as there will be less and less of them who remember the old ways. Since their way or life will be interpreted and reinterpreted many times, things will start to shift.

Granted, this is a digital society and if they put effort into it, they could have 100% accurate records... but would they? Would their creators ever have given them that task?

If they can evolve, you have another wrinkle as the nature and behavior of the bots would change even if they can keep an accurate history. Even with that, they might start to view their creators differently... partly because they'd be different themselves, but also because some of them might want to intentionally distort the historical narrative to further their own political motives.

Things that come to mind that you might want to look into are the A.I.M. Elite-clone games, the Primordia point & click adventure game, the story Leviathan by Stanislav Lem, the anime Dragon's Heaven.

>the anime Dragon's Heaven
I looked this up, and now I want to watch it.

Thanks for the heads-up!
>>
For communication purposes I think it would be cool if the robots started making basic looking humans and got better and better, until they started looking exactly like humans. From stick-figure to synth skin and human like eye movement.

Then the crew starts having to second guess everything...
>>
My god /tg/ is sucking tonight.

How about this, some sort of sad but tender community of loyal robots waiting for their promised masters to come back, even though they all destroyed themselves long long ago. They still keep, clean and mantain all the systems of their old masters, and still follow their routine as usual, after all, "master will come back". Yeah, it's been used, but you can add like a twist, maybe part of the robots actually developed setience and created a resistance movement, so you get freedom fighters on one side and your pet dog on the other, that makes it harder for the players to choose which side to follow or to ally themselves with. You can either kick the little dog who just wants their old master and is keeping everything clean for him or you can kick the whole species only chance of ever building something or creating something new.
