Reinhold didn't have a castle full of friends or even regular old friends. He had Citrine and one other hobby that he could only do if he could scrounge up a pencil and paper at the time. Swordsmanship was pretty much the thing he probably defaulted to as a kid. Then when he was in the army practicing drills was probably another one of the few things he could consistently do so it became something he kind of defaults to in a lot of ways.
