Somewhat on-topic, although it's too late, the GMs I roll with typically use cursed items one of three ways

1.) As a reprimand when subtle warnings some kinds of behavior are dumb or bad don't sink in; if you're a dick about the loot, sometimes there's a Girdle and/or Robe of Powerlessness waiting for you when a "c'mon, dude" isn't cutting the mustard.

2.) Adding a little bit of drama when they want us to be on our toes for whatever's around the corner. Curses are great for mini-quests to break them a lot of the time, and the danger's much more dangerous when one or more of our folks is cursed.

3.) Comedy in lighter campaigns. The sky's the limit for the laughs you can mine most curses for if you're creative enough, and /tg/'s threads have proved well enough the Girdle of Opposite Gender in general is comedy gold.

When I use them, I tend to give a subtle warning, like "you can sense magic coming from the boots but you aren't sure what it is", and if they examine further, they might find that it's cursed, but if they just put them on, they may be stuck with some shitty boots until they have their feet amputated or have the curse removed by a wizard or something.

I only use magical items if they are fun or relevant to the plot. Players can buy +1-+3 weapons but they are more regarded as super-high quality than magical as such. Also, I am very open to items which give fun or unique abilities but which does not intrinsically improve the power level of the character.

In exchange, I am reasonable with the encounters they face and dont buff up enemies more than they need to be. Then again, we play for the story and to have a great evening with mates rather than "to win" so there is that I suppose. Also, I always cook for my players because its just nicer that way.

I like to use cursed items that are legitimately useful at the same time. If a party finds a cloak that horribly poisons the person who puts it on there isn't a lot they can do with that (trick/enspell someone to put it on) but if they find a sword that bla bla bla bla something useful but also something awful then they keep it and have one of those sort of last resort buttons to press.

A good example of this is the 3.x and pathfinder sword of berzerking. When shit REALLY hits the fan the fighter draws this bad boy and goes apeshit (sometimes people even continue enchanting it further) and so it is a fun but still cursed and not exactly overpowered item.

There's no requirements for what you cast this on. You can put it on anything that reproduces if you can figure out a way around the Personal range. Chromatic dragons, Aboleth, even demons.

I'm planning to do this to an Aboleth. Their perfect genetic memory dating back to near the beginning of reality would make good-aligned Aboleth infinitely valuable as a scholar/librarian race. The one with Blue magic being sex magic is Nymphology, and is largely a comedy work. Though it does contain some neat stuff.

The only I'm talking about is written completely straight facedly, and is called The Book of Erotic Fantasy. It's a fullsize expansion based on erotic elements, and includes optional rules such as a 7th stat (Appearance), full sections on rules to deal with things like fetishism, childbirth, even interbreeding, (There's a huge chart for what can knock up what. Humans and Dragons can fuck pretty much everything and get a kid out of it.) and a small pile of classes, feats, and of course spells. Also new items, enchantments, even quite a little mound of alchemicals from recreational drugs to contraceptives. New domains, new deities, new monsters (Pleasure golems have some extremely interesting possibilities when you realize they only have 2 RHD and an Int score).
