Previously: A young rocket has a spooky encounter in the spire of graves. A mad ghost worn through the power of a mad medium. Voices and broken words filtered through the young rocket's mind as the spirit sought to devour her.
Yet she gleaned something from this experience. This apparition is a victim of the very case she's working on!

Unrested, and onto a new day, she meets the man from the electrotram, only to find that the distraught accountant crumples under the pressure of these questions.

The plot thickens, and a young rocket faces the unknown.

Best time of the year is finally here!
>>

It's that time again!
>>
>>28971452
Reporting for duty, generalissimo!
>>
>Report! We have a wounded!

Oh boy. Is it the man panicking?
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRVVm6jRiR4&list=PL616C409141684A9E

You shake the man on the ground, his body shaking violently, his eyes fluttering behind his eyelids as though something in him simply "broke." Calling his name does nothing to fix him or bring him around.

You gain some semblance of your composure after a few moments of trying to help him, backing off of him. Noting here but trees and the gym in the distance, the Rocket Dorms some ways from here. You could possibly take him there, or you could wait for him to come to again.

You see no evidence of an actual psychic attack, or at least you feel nothing being directed against yourself. No, in your training you've learned to identify that kind of thing. It can be more subtle than this, or it could be more wild. There's no ruling that out.
This could be a psychic attack to silence him, he could even be dead now.
No Cerulean, you've got to think, you need to make a call.

>[] Take him to the Rocket dorms.
>[] Return to the Veridian gym.
>[] Leave him here and get help.
>[] Wait here for him to wake up.
>[] Spray him with water.
>[] (Other)
>>
>>28971618
take his pulse. Check if he is alive.

After that, either take him to a hospital or to the rocket dorms. Probably the rocket dorms, as we don't know if we can trust the hospital, and there's nowhere safer than the rockets.

Gotta get into character as nosy-girl-embroiled-in-espionage
>>
>>28971618
>>[X] Take him to the Rocket dorms.
>>
>>28971618
[x] Get him to the closest one between Viridian Gym and the Rocket Dorms.

Actually, spraying him with water might be helpful this time.
>>
>>28971618
Check his pulse. Make sure he isn't going into cardiac arrest, damnit.

Try spraying him with water first.
>>
>>28971618
Take pulse make sure he lives, and carry him to the Rocket Dorms. If nothing else, Giovanni should know about this. We need to gather our team also.
>>
For once 'spray him with water' actual sounds like it could help. I'd sooner believe this is like a neurological feedback loop from trying to access a damaged memory giving him a seizure. The spray could shock him out of it.
>>
>>28971700
maybe a bit of a spray. If he has a pulse and we can't wake him.

after that, take him somewhere.
>>
>>28971644
As much as I hate to admit it calling Sabrina might be a good idea in this situation since she could fix the problem faster than doctor could and no psychic would be stupid enough to mess with her.
>>
>>28971618
Check his pulse, make sure he's still alive. Try to wake him up with a spray of water. Don't tell him what happened, say he tripped and knocked his head.

This guy still might be a lead, we just need a psychic, like Goldie.

Get him to the Rocket Dorms. Find a quiet and private room to put him, we don't want him to be able to tell he's in the Rocket Dorms nor do we want the other Rockets to accidentally barge in.
>>
>>28971730
If that's the case, would you rather take him there unconscious?
>>
>>28971713
Not necessarily Sabrina. Let's check if Goldie can't do something about this; he's supposedly become quite the prodigy in his psychic abilities in the 2 years we've been training.

Also, where are the Rocket Dorms located? In Viridian Quarter? We might want to take Chuck to the Viridian Gym and have him check in there while we go to pick up our team.
>>
>>28971747
>>28971752
Psychics can teleport.
>>
>>28971768
Yes, but do you want to wake him up andf take him there, or just take him there?
>>
>>28971747
Yes, yes I would. I got mixed up, don't wake him up, just carry him.

After making sure his pulse is beating and steady, if he's unconscious but his heart beat is all out of whack it might be best to wake him up.
>>
>>28971768
That's....unless Goldie can contact us from where he is right now and from this distance...

>>28971786
Are there any telephones around? Can we call the Rocket Dorms and ask for Goldie to come to the park?
>>
>>28971786
Oh fuck. There are phones in the park, right? We may not even have to drag Chuck with us if we could call Goldie to come to where we are.
>>
>>28971786
>>28971833
either call goldie for a teleport, or wake him up and take him to the dorm.
>>
>>28971618
Are there any locations nearby that we know about that are secluded and quiet. Taking him back to the Rocket Dorms could jeopardize keeping this mission of ours off the books.

We can get Devon, Goldie, and Sanna there by dropping them a phone call.
>>
>>28971786
>>28971851
Yeah, if we have phones available to us, we can totally avoid bringing Chuck to the dorms.
>>
>>28971851
I suppose we should find some alternate place, but I can't think of anywhere we know of that doesn't have people/friends in it.
>>
>>28971618

>Take him to the rocket dorms, if it wasn't a psychic attack it might have been a delayed trigger; we can get Grumpy or Alexis to help maybe to heal him?
>>
So I'm taking it as:
>Take him to somewhere else and call the rocket dorms for the team.
>>
>>28971889
It'd actually be faster to call the dorms through the phones and get Grumpy to get to us, since he can teleport and I'm sure that he's got even better at it compared to when we took the test 2 years ago.

Also, leave Alexis out. She's not a part of the mission.
>>
>>28971916
Yeah, that sounds good. But where should we take him first? The Viridian Gym, I suppose? or the closest hospital, perhaps?

Let's check his pulse first. If he seems stable and not in immediate danger, we won't have to take him to the hospital.
>>
>>28971916
yes. assemble team.

But we have nowhere to take him that doesn't have people.
>>
>>28971941
What element was Virigian again?
>>
>>28971966
Ground.
>>
>>28971966
Ground/Poison/Normal. They train a wider variety.
>>
>>28971941
Veridian Gym probably has people, we know the area so I'm hoping we can find somewhere quiet and out of the way to do our business.
>>
>>28971975
wasn't that pewter?
>>
>>28971986
Pewter is Rock. Totally different.
>>
>>28971916
Just take him to Viridian Gym.
If any one asks play the dumb concerned ranger who saw this guy have a fit.
>>
>>28971978
ah, I see.

I say take him to Rocket dorms, probably safer there, but Goldie can probably teleport us there much faster. Maybe get a doctor there to look at him. I assume we have excellent health care over at the Rocket Dorms
>>
>>28972006
If it can be helped, we need to avoid showing off the fact that we're Rockets. Even if he doesn't recognize the dorms as belonging to the Rockets, if a Psychic is involved, they could easily look into his memories. And even if we wiped those memories, if Goldie is able to restore Chuck's memories, our enemy likely could as well.

Best be a professional about this.
>>
>>28971452
>>28971452

Ah
>>
>>28972101
Again, we gotta avoid involving people who are not a part of the mission. Gotta be a professional about this. We only resort to breaking the parameters of our mission when we are completely unable to follow them anymore.
>>
>>28972130
Its satin actually.
>>
>>28972101
That would require spilling details about this mission to someone we probably shouldn't give details about classified missions to.

We're supposed to keep this between us and the three other trainees we're bringing in.

Lilac was an exception as it was necessary to go to her, or some other Medium, to get information from the spirit, and she's very good at Mediuming.
>>
>>28972168
>>28972143
Agreed guys, Retracting my vote for rocket dorms too
>>
>>28972143
We're going to have to talk her about the fact that our suspect is a psychic.
>>
>>28972185
No we don't.
we have a psychic and two dark types on our team we can handle this.
>>
>>28972185
Why are we going to have to tell her that? We don't have to tell her anything about it. We're a Rocket, we're not part of her Gym.

We tell Giovanni, and if he thinks that it's important information for her to know then he'll let her know, but we don't go around blabbing.
>>
You kneel down and grab the man by his wrist, biting off your glove, your teeth piercing through and running through your fur.
You apply your fingers to his wrist and feel something.

Good, he's alive.

You take a step back and adjust your palm, taking aim at him, your palm's barrel extending out an inch. A little water should wake him up.

Wait a sec. No. He needs to stay like this, it's better like this. You retract the barrel.

Mission retirement is that this stays off the books and under the radar. You can move him like this without his knowledge. Boss would be proud of you for thinking so far ahead.
Around here, this is the path from veridian to the rocket dorms. The trees have been left a bit thick to conceal the place. Easier to keep the esteemed rockets unmolested by public eye after all.

There should be a park near here with a more public phone, it'll cost some change but..

You look around, taking stock of your surroundings, ears flicking to listen into the more subtle nuances of the area.
All clear, Crystal clear.
You hoist the man's body atop you, wrinkling your nose at the disturbing smell of alcohol left on his clothes. What a slob...

_____________________________________
>>
>>28972185
We can ask Kitty or the boss about stuff like that.

Our enemy is a psychic. So we either work under the assumption that it's a psychic who chose not to train at Sabrina's gym....or that Sabrina is doing the same thing as Giovanni and renting out the services of her own rangers.

In either case, we try to find other options first. Gotta be intelligent about these kinds of things.
>>
>>28972213
One dark type, we only have dark type moves.
>>
>>28972254
Yeah, but we basically have close to the same advantages, in terms of combat. Just say that we're a "counts as".
>>
>>28972254
Close enough.
>>
>>28972280
I doubt we have as much resistance to psychic attacks as an actual Dark type, though we can still murder them pretty well.
>>
>>28972242
>>28972226
May I point out that this psychic committed murder. That is a pretty good reason by itself.
>>
>>28972233
covert ops are haard
This better be because of a pokeymon, and not just some criminals. Cerulean'd be miffed if it were the second, I wager.
>>
>>28972294
We've got some resistance. You do understand how Dark types resist Psychic types, right?

>>28972307
That is not a good reason to break cover.
>>
>>28972332
I agree with you but we arent actually a dark type. We just have the moves.
>>
>>28972332
We have NO RESISTANCE only moves they can't predict.
>>
>>28972359
I mean to say we wont have the full benefits.
>>
>>28972372
Do you know how Dark types resist Psychic moves?
>>
>>28972372
Still no reason to get Sabrina involved. We have our own psychics.
>>
>>28972388
We aren't dark type we have dark type moves
>>
>>28972402
Did you mean to quote someone else?
>>
>>28972414
No I was assuming you were arguing on the pro Sabrina side. I apologize if that was not the case.
>>
>>28972388
We aren't a Dark type. We're Water/Ice, not Dark. We just have Dark moves available to us.

>>28972307
People die all the time, we're on a mission to investigate this and were giving orders to keep this quiet and not spread knowledge of it outside of our team.

So we don't go and blab about it to Sabrina, at least not at this juncture. If Goldie can't get any leads from him and he thinks Sabrina could then we can consider going to her.
>>
>>28972388
Are you really this stupid? Dark type moves ignore a psychic's defenses but give us no defense to psychic moves.
>>
>>28972445
Oh, no, I'm not that guy.

So you were totally right. If it doesn't turn out he wasn't.
>>
You hide his body in a nearby bush, hop over a park bench, and get a few weird looks from some of the more "normal" passerbys.
Whatever. Mission time.
You tap out the number of the rocket dorms with a claw, scuffing up the shiny keys.
It rings a few times before the operator picks up.
"Hello, who is this?" The operator's voice is direct, and discreet. She doesn't say who you've dialed, that's how you know.
You leer down some of the civilians that are lingering too close for your comfort and they rightly back away as you whisper into the phone,"Trainee Cerulean of Cerulean."
"Yes, who shall I direct you to?" Her tone lightens noticeably, knowing who she's speaking to.
"Pass on a message please. Goldenrod of Saffron, Sanna of Celadon, and Devon of Cinnabar. They need to meet me in Forest Park. Civilian clothes."
There's a pause,"Will do. Can I ask what's this about?"
"That's classified."
"Understood."

You hang up the phone, and give the pedestrians another round of leer as you walk away, doubling around when their eyes leave you before you get around to Chuck again. He's still there, safe and sound.

Some time passes and you hear a familiar presence passing through your mind.
(Cerulean?)
"Right here," you think back, imagining the path you took.

Your team comes through the bushes. Goldenrod's face is shaved, and he has a band over his head to cover his star. Aside from the blonde fuzz on his face, he's passable as a human.
Sanna comes through with a rather baggy hoody, her green hands tucked into her pockets and hood pulled up over her odd hair, only her red eyes piercing the veil. She's almost passable too.

Devon though? He's nowhere to be seen.

"Where's Devon?" The first thing on your mind, you need all of them here. You need them all for this.
>>
>>28972483
>We aren't a Dark type. We're Water/Ice, not Dark. We just have Dark moves available to us.
Again I have to ask you if you actually understand how Dark types resist Psychic moves? Explain your understanding of how this works.
>>
>>28972485
Man arguments on /tg/ get confusing.
>>
>>28972512
Huh, well dark type is evil type so I guess dark types resit simply because they are sick sons of bitches who'd eat babies with a side of roasted vegetables
>>
>>28972512
It doesn't matter how Dark types resist Psychic moves. We aren't a Dark type no matter how you slice it. It's irrelevant to our situation.
>>
>>28972488
Do we know Goldie evolved? I thought he was covering that up.
>>
>>28972488
I swear if Devon rolls up on a Ghostrider bike I will be SO pissed.
>>
>>28972512
By being "Evil" types.
There is a big difference between having the moves and having the type.
>>
>>28972543
And we are able to mimic that. Not to the same extent as natural Dark types, but enough to disrupt mental attacks.

Dark types only resist mental attacks (and disrupt them before they make it).

>>28972560
Yes, we know he evolved. No, he never tried to cover it up.
>>
>>28972488
Goddamnit, here we go.

Devon being a loose cop who doesn't play by the rules
>>
>>28972488
Hey Prof, can you put a rest to this Evil typing argument?
>>
>>28972573
I mean after we got mindwiped he had a shave. I assumed he was covering up the evolution on top of the whole gym stuff.
>>
>>28972488
Devon, if you screw this up I swear...
>>
>>28972488
He's either having trouble looking civilian, or he's snuck up on Ceru. Neither are really very good.
>>
>>28972573
Not attacks, defenses. We're still are still weak to mental attacks.
>>
>>28972607
Why would he cover up the evolution?

And he was just embarrassed of his mustache, I believe. It was why he tried to hide it away from us when we met him at Saffron Gym. If he wanted to hide the fact that he evolved, he would have covered up his forehead too.
>>
>>28972607
He didn't cover the star. He just shaved the mustache. He's embarrassed by early facial hair
>>
Evil moves give you the ability to take espers by surprise.
They don't give you full immunity.

Devon, for instance, is completely incompatible with any esper affiliation. Goldenrod can't even teleport him without receiving the mindfuck backlash. I almost wish you guys had evil typing so I could give really fucked up narrative.

You'd find that it's a wonder Devon is even as amicable as he is.
>>
>>28972488
Sniff the air around us, we should be pretty familiar with his scent.
>>
>>28972639
But he did:

>Goldenrod's face is shaved, and he has a band over his head to cover his star
>>
>>28972638
>>28972639
Man if I had a mustache at thirteen I would have thought it was pretty sweet.
>>
>>28972654
I'm sure your gore boner needs scratching Professor. Don't worry, we'll get there eventually.
>>
>>28972654
>I almost wish you guys had evil typing so I could give really fucked up narrative.

Please, don't temp me, Doc. Narratives that reflect different psychological states (or just insanity) are too fun.
>>
>>28972658
I think Prof is still writing out the next post, since he didn't give us any greentext options.

>>28972661
For now. Because he was told to come in civilian clothes. Which is why he's hiding it now.

>>28972676
Me too, man. Me too.
>>
>>28972661
No shit Sherlock, we told him to come out in civvie clothes so he's covering up the most noticeable marker of not being a civilian. Kids wandering around with stars on their forehead tend to garner attention.

He doesn't hide it during Rocket Training or anything like that.
>>
>>28972661
You mean right now? Yeah. he's trying to look human.

...did you not catch that?
>>
>>28972654
So I take it Devon and Goldie aren't BFFs?
>>
>>28972654
hahaha Devon had to take the bus like a common person.
>>
>>28972698
He didn't even hide it back then when he came with us back to the hospital.

>>28972706
Considering Goldie's Timid personality, I'd say not.
>>
>>28972654
You can still do that when we use feint attack. Since that is supposed to run on pure killer instinct, right?

I want to hear your fucked up narrative
>>
>>28972661
I really hope his head band has a star on it.
>>
>>28972654
But is there a way to be nice Evil? I'm thinking either Lovecraft level of otherworldness is enough to repel Psychic without actually being mean or deliberately malicious.

Ceru's method seems to work too: just have being nice be instinctual, rather than conscious.
>>
>>28972654
>>28972708
AHAHAHA. Gawd. And all by himself.
>>
>>28972679
I mean crap like:

Goldenrod approaches you, looking a little smugger than usual. His shit-eating grin makes you recollect the dream you had last night of tearing his throat out. His eyes meet yours, an obvious challenge that makes you straighten your back a little more and bare your teeth in your own kind of smirk.
"H-hey Devon." Your dominance makes the chump come out of him to your satisfaction.
"Sup shitface. You goin' to kiss Ceru's ass again?"
He doesn't reply to you, instead withdrawing further and walking away with his tail inbetween his legs. He'll try to kill you in your sleep later. You'll need to be on your guard.
>>
>>28972736
Ceru isn't a natural Evil type, so she has to segue into it when she uses her Evil moves.

Devon, however, constantly has to live with that mentality.
>>
>>28972723
It hides killing intent.
>>
Sanna is quiet, looking to Goldenrod whom averts his gaze from yours as he answers," Couldn't port him. I don't even like being near that freak, let alone touching him."
You feel your lip curl up at the thought of this, something you don't quite like," Goldenrod, we need him here."
He frowns further, as Sanna looks away herself, checking the area.
"I can't do it Ceru, dealing with that is beyond my ability."

You let go of the emotions welling up within you. Clear like water. Flow, just flow.
"Did they tell you what's going on?"
Goldenrod looks at the man unconscious by your side,"Well, Giovanni didn't mention this. Covert op though. Civ clothes, something about an error and chasing ghosts. Not really chasing ghosts, is it?"
You wear a tired smile from the events of last night, you can feel the bags under your eyes.
"Yeah, something like that." You mess up the unconscious Chuck's hair a little bit. "He knows something about it. But his story is weird. When I asked him about it, he didn't remember something. He got like this after."

Goldenrod takes a knee and touches the man, wincing a little bit.
"Woah."
"What?"

Goldenrod frowns in concentration for a few moments before answering," His mind has more holes than swiss cheese."

It's more important to know WHAT happened to him rather than whether he can be helped right now. Waking him up might be a bad idea, hmm.

Can we take him to a not-rocket gym, "since we found him nearby", or is all of this going to be done in the park?

Would it help if I gave you the details of what happened so you can fill in the blanks?

Can you tell anything about whatever who did this?"
>>
>>28972905
We aren't a Dark type, we don't have their resistance to Psychic stuff, Psychics just can't predict our Dark attacks making them extra effective.
>>
>>28972755
Goldenrod approaches you, looking a little smugger than usual. His shit-eating grin makes you recollect the dream you had last night of tearing his throat out. Fixed that up a bit.

Seeing through evil eyes would require you to constantly undermine the way your eyes perceive the world.

I dunno, I feel like it'd be like trying to poke holes in a sheet of paper.

>>28972954
Hey Prof, mind re-explaining how Evil types work again? And how pseudo-Evil types compare to them? Because if you don't do it now, these guys are just gonna keep on talking about it....
>>
>>28972995
He already did like 3 times man. They're not listening.

Real evil types are always immune to all Esper abilities (except throw rock, for obvious reasons)

Rangers with evil moves can really hurt Espers, but aren't immune to their attacks permanently (like mind reading.)

It's simple.
>>
>>28972954
Isn't that a big problem for Bruise then? He'll always seem unrealiable and untrustworthy to Kitty.

How the hell do Evil types form stable relationships? Well, I suppose if you still care about people even though you think they're all assholes...
>>
>>28972654
>>28972995
He already did.
>>
>>28973044
Kitty isn't evil. She's normal type.
>>
>>28973044
You hate them less than everyone else.
You're also implying something that may not even happen.
>>
>>28973044
Kitty isn't an Evil type. Persian is a Normal type Pokemon, she just also knows some Steel and Dark type moves.
>>
>>28973044
She aint evil either. She does the same thing we do.
>>
>>28973044
Kitty isn't actually an Evil type. She just leveled the shit out of the Evil moves she can learn.

And Persian is just a dickass Normal type that that scratches things reflexively.
>>
>>28972654
>>28973039
This is what Prof is saying.

But these guys are still arguing about whether or not pseudo types like Kitty and Ceru have any defense against psychic moves.
>>
>>28973064
We can always dream, Prof. We're Rockets, after all. Always reaching towards the stars.
>>
>>28973084
Their moves make it so they can attack them.
But otherwise? No. Sabrina read our mind like a rotten egg.
>>
>>28972789
Does our education include type-theory? Are the interactions of the more esoteric types like psychic, dark, fairy, dragon, etc, even common knowledge to Pokescience?

I just realized what the best implant ever -the only one I still kinda want- would be.

Smeargle's brain bits that let it copy moves.
>>
>>28973124

>>
>>28973107
The problem is that Cerulean has to 'engage' her Evil side while natural Evil types like Devon are 'always on'. So, the question is; once that Evil side has been engaged, do they have the same defenses?

>>
>>28973183
Look. I'm not even arguing against you. I'm just making the two points in this argument clear. There are people who hold your position.

And there are people who hold this one.

It would be nice if Prof could clarify which one is true.
>>
My mistake with Kitty's type then

>>28973064
What's important is that it might come up within the story, not really whether it'll actually happen.

>>
>>28973251
Yes, evil moves give temporary immunity to Esper attacks.
Though Espers will always have an easier time reacting to a ranger that needs to cancel out of "Evil mode" for their own sanity.

Kitty's basically been put through bizarre and hellish training to make her a pseudo evil-type. Her brain is fucked up.

>>28973313
It makes the mind blank, though if they're perceptive, they'll still be able to perform a physical counter or generate a barrier.
>>
>>28973346

You know, anon. You're a jerk. Someone is trying to make peace and you act like a fucking.
>>
>>28973313
Yeah, but it removes all other thinking. It's like mind blank makes you immune to mind effecting spells in D&D.

It takes away all thoughts except how to remove whatever is threatening you. There's no mind left to fuck.

At least, that's how I see it. Still waiting for the official word on this.
>>
>>28973313
Smeargle lets him learn any move and Dito lets him use them to their full extent.
I imagine it would be a lot like fighting Alex Mercer.
You try to hit him and he turns his arms into a Sheldar shield, then grows some Blastoise cannons to retaliate.
>>
>>28973363
>>28973370
There. Hope you're happy now. Fuck.

Adds a reasonable drawback in exchange for what is essentially immunity to espers. Do you risk going loopy, or do you leave yourself vulnerable?

"I kind of expected that," You frown, though don't really put much more of yourself out there.
"Anything you can do about it? I know a few things that he should know."

Goldenrod removes his hand from the man, and peers at you warily,"Ah, Ceru how.. Ah, nevermind, I'll find out later. It'll take some time to fix him." Goldenrod's eyes shift around the area, obviously perturbed by how open it is.

"Yeah, take him to the Rocket dorms. After we find out what we need, you can teleport him out."
You think for a moment, a finger to your mouth as your eyes drift to Sanna, feeling guilty about the prior day.
"You take him and start on that. We'll wait here for Devon. Better than him showing up with no one here."

Goldenrod kind of smiles at that, or does he smile at you?
"Better than him taking his frustration out on civilians." His face goes flat as he kind of spaces out," Better than having to deal with that monster."
He touches Chuck's hand,"See you back at base." And the two of them vanish.

It's just you and sanna now in Green Park awaiting Devon.

So, how did you intend to grovel?

The problem, though, is on whether or not the need for rolling it would go away.

And if we can build up a tolerance to it, why would he think that wouldn't be the first thing we'd try to do? It would just end up wasting time and being superfluous.

If we can't build up a tolerance to it, then that's even a worse problem.

There needs to be an incentive to balance that then, like acting out of turn. Seems more like something for Quick Attack though.

How about "feral mode" rather than evil? You allow the pokemon instincts to take over, giving innate bonuses to moves that the particular pokemon specializes at. Losing san rolls makes you act more like that pokemon.

>>28973682
>[] "Sanna, sorry about yesterday. My nose is sensitive."
mention that it smelled really good from the door, and that we can judge for her if it's from outside her room.

Well we will have to see wont we?
It cant be that high of a check since we used it to hug someone once. It probably lowers as we level up our dark moves.

The problem is not in using Evil moves, but in using Evil moves in quick succession.
>>
>>28973682
Give a few sniffs, see if Sanna smells nice today.

"Sanna, I wanted to apologize for yesterday.

I have a very sensitive nose, I went to visit you because I smelled something really nice when I went in the dorms.

But inside your room with the broken bottles of perfume there was too much. It was like the difference between a nice song and a dozen people singing right in your ears.

I'm sorry."

If the apology is accepted we can give her a hug and tell her she smells nice.
>>
>>28973735
Well fuck. With this turn of events, I'm going to lobby the fuck out of Ice/Water moves only. No more anything else ever.

If all moves that don't match our type not only don't get stab, but also incur bullshit penalties, we shouldn't be using them at all.

Better to take our moves that don't incur bullshit and pump them up until weakness no longer matters.

I don't even want to see what we might have to roll for on other attacks. Bullet Seed requiring rolls to resist the seeds trying to overtake your biology? Psybeam requiring rolls to prevent backlash?

Nah. Screw that.

>>
>>28973854
>Yeah, that's a thing that I think they didn't read.
I did read that.

You didn't define what "quick succession" is. For all we know, that could activate if we Nasty Plot to boost, then Snarl and Feint Attack into a Frost Breath.

I don't think you understand that nerfing things we've purchased not because they are OP, but rather because you want to write crazy characters, is a dick move. Is it within your power and rights as the QM? Yeah. Still dickish.
>>
>>28974025

For what it's worth, Prof, I actually like the change. It'll improve things from a narrative standpoint, if not a mechanical one. And I know which side I prefer.
>>
>>28974014
First, that has to be put into practice first. And it has to show its worth. If Prof can show that its worth having that penalty on, that's good. Basically what I said here
>>28973930
If Evil moves are good enough to require an extra penalty, then go ahead and add them.

But the thing is, we have to roll just to make the attack in the first place, and dice can be fickle. There was already one instance where we almost killed a friend because of a crit failure. Why add another penalty when he's already willing to go that far to punish a poor roll? Why risk aggravating people more? People are already aggravated now.
>>
>>28974014
as I understand it, it's functionally the same when chaining as lock on, except it has different typing interactions. So there isn't much reason to use it unless you are attacking an esper.
>>
>>28974025
It is a tad dickish, yeah, but I enjoy reading crazy characters. Win some, lose some.

Sanna's looking away right now, her face covered by her hoodie. You squirm a little bit as you come out of your "mission face."
The two of you are protected from the clear morning sun by the trees of this park, sunlight filtering through the leaves by emerald shade. The sunlight is little uncomfortable against your fur, but still kind of nice the way it makes your fur shine.

You sniff the air, trying to discern whether Sanna's wearing a fragrance.
She's not.

Well that's odd. You think to yourself for a moment before she turns to you, catching you sniffing.
"Hm? What is it Fat Cat, got somethin' ta say?" Woah, yeah. She's a bit mad at you.

A little meekness might help here. You touch your thumbs together and angle your toes away with a slightly averted gaze so as to not look her in the eye.
"Hey. I'm- uh- sorry about yesterday. It was too strong for my nose. It was really good though, you know?" You bring your claws up, pleading,"I'm really, really sorry about that. I didn't mean it, I really didn't."

Sanna holds up a hand for you to stop before sighing and relaxing a little. "Yeah, yeah, I kind of figured it was like that. I kind of suck at making those things anyway. Look. You don't talk about it anymore and we'll call it even. I did throw ya out on yer tush anyway."
Sanna seems to be pretty resigned about the whole thing.
You really did like the smell though.

All this does is make it so we never use dark moves again, resulting in narrative inconsistency as to why Ceru spent two years working on techniques that are damn near suicidal to think about using on actual missions.

Fighting an esper with such abandon may actually be preferrable, though it could cause Ceru to go on a rampage between her guns and claws. Tenacity+ Rocket training would be used to roll against Feral/Evil nature.
Also, either charm or Tenacity could be spent to break the mode if it got out of hand.

It's an anti-esper measure that would give her immunity against their mind-reading which would make fighting a more advanced esper
Kadabra/Alakazam/Kirlia/Gardevoir/Drowzee SIGNIFICANTLY easier.

It's something that'd be useful against espers, though you won't need to rely on it as much.

>>28974424
Lower ranks could make the DC higher, if that's what we're talking about.
>>
>>28974424
I'm sure the DC won't be ridiculously high.
>>
>>28974451
>It's something that'd be useful against espers, though you won't need to rely on it as much against non-espers.*
>>
>>28974294
should Sanna really be using Charm for this, and not perception or intelligence? Charm doesn't really strike me as the power to be depressed.

....lol, on that note, why does rocket training help? ELITE DEPRESSION
>>
>>28974424
He said "when used in succession." So you need to use at least to in a row. And then we don't even know what the DC is, and if it can be attempted every turn thereafter or what. The actual severity of the penalty is completely unknown.
>>
Wait, do we actually have Nasty Plot?
>>
>>28974468
Yeah, I don't think we'll need to use Evil moves as heavily on non-Espers. Crossroad Killing, definitely, is good on its own.

However, you can work on putting the stuff you described here
>>28974451
under more understandable and concrete terms at another time, Prof. You can just focus on writing the story for now.
>>
>>28974516
Fuck yeah we do. Rank 2.
>>
>>28974451
>Remove the Stamina costs from all Evil moves
>Add in a Sanity stat
>Sanity above X% regens at a rate of Y per turn.
>Possibly link Y to Tenacity or other stats
>Have Evil moves cost sanity points to use.
That would be a much less shitty system than san rolls.

>>28974479
According to >>28974451, three Evil moves will do it. That's insane. It would make Evil moves nearly worthless in both squad settings and solo.

>>28974516

>>28974516
Nasty Plot, Snarl, and Feint Attack I believe.
>>
>>28974548
And Cross Roads Killing (AKA Night Slash)
>>
>>28974545
>three Evil moves will do it.
Within one or two posts. It's not that bad and the other system will just make things more complicated, though I'll consider it if other anons agree.
>>
>>28974516
Yup. It ups our non-physical attacks which means it works well with a lot of other stuff we do.

>>28974545
So Dark attacks don't have any effect on Stamina? That doesn't seem quite right. Just roll with it.

>>28974547
We aren't an Esper so he doesn't unnerve us that much. We just have to make it clear that we're in charge and he ought to fall in line.
>>
>>28974548
Cool beans

I was hoping we'd get those eventually. Must have missed it.
>>
>>28974545
>three Evil moves will do it. That's insane. It would make Evil moves nearly worthless in both squad settings and solo.

How many attacks do you think most battles last?
>>
>>28974577
It's too complicated, I say. Just try to streamline things as best as you can and lay down the rules you've made in an understandable manner.

Like with that one or two posts cooldown thing. It'd be nice if you could be more specific and concrete about it.
>>
>>28974545
3 moves AT A TIME, so it's not so bad. We can just spend a turn making cold mist before starting the evil barrage again.
>>
>>28974617
The benefit is that vs an esper, you'd become a pseudo evil type.
Risk vs reward.
>Writing.
>>
>>28974582
>>28974582
not what we think of him, I want to see what he sees ceru as
>>
>>28974577
>>28974617
>>28974590
Do you even understand how the Evil moves will work in actual combat?

The main advantage to the Evil moves is that we can combo them.

This takes that away. Feint Attack is good because it combos. Snarl is good because it's a free action. Nasty Plot is good because you use it before the attack starts to begin the combo.

Adding the san check will result in nearly every single attack in which Ceru is the aggressor requiring a sanity check.

>Nasty Plot to boost Spec Attack
>Feint Attack to get in close
>Snarl because free action that cripples
>Ice Breath for the kill
And now you've exceeded the Evil technique limit and you have to san roll. After one turn of combat.

It kills the biggest advantage to Evil moves.
>>
>>28974645
nooo, don't tempt us to make Ceru crazy! We must preserve the hugs as long as we can!
>>
>>28974684
We can still hug, we'd simply ponder the though of tearing out his entrails and rolling in them like a fucking cat
>>
>>28974645
Er, you meant to quote someone else, right?

>>28974668
A rival, obviously. He thinks of Goldie as someone who's planning to usurp him from behind. He sees Ceru as someone he's competing with directly.

>>28974684
Er.....I think you misunderstood him.

>>28974681
You misunderstood. It's like if we used 3 moves in one action, that would be fine and we'd be up to use that many moves again in our next prompt.

If we go up to 4 Evil moves in one post, that's when we'd have to roll. In your example, Ice Breath is fine as its an Ice type move, so we wouldn't need to roll there.
>>
>>28974681
All it takes is a feint attack / crossroads killing to annihilate an esper. You don't need to snarl and and nasty plot, they are dead anyways. hell, you could lock on instead of feint attack, maybe add in a focus energy for a better shot at critting for utter murder. I'm not even sure nasty plot would help, since in the games it is for special attack.
>>
>>28974681
Or you could, you know, just use two of those evil moves. Its not a big deal really.
>>
>>28974681
that's because you're trying to maximize all your moves. If you're going for the kill, Snarl is pointless. Using only 2 of those 3 at a time is already very effective.

Besides, I don't think 3 is the hardcoded number. Crossroad Killings seems to me like a much weightier move to use than snarl in terms of needing san checks.
>>
>>28974738
In his example, Nasty Plot would be used to improve Frost Breath.
>>
>>28974681
We could not use three Evil techniques in one turn then?

Like a Nasty Plot into a Water Gun?
Or a Feint Attack-Night Slash?
>>
>>28974668
We're probably more of a Rival than anything else.

We've trained alongside him and done really well, he might not like us, but he at least respects our abilities. He doesn't cow us so he can't see us as a wimp or prey.

He sees us as someone to compete against.
>>
>>28974681
When you put it like that, evil moves sound pretty overpowered.

This seems like an interesting way to reduce reliance on them.
>>
>>28974757
See, while I'm not opposed to Prof's proposed penalty system, this is one of the problems that needs to be addressed. The ambiguous weight behind how stressful each of these moves are.

It's going to become needlessly complicated, which is inadvisable for a quest, so Prof needs to find a way to streamline this shit.
>>
>>28974772

No, the scenario I listed is the exact scenario Prof said would trigger a san roll.

>>28974738
Evil techniques are not anti-Esper only. Nasty Plot boosts all our Ice moves, Snarl makes non-Espers clumsier, Feint Attack gets in close more quickly.

>>28974770
>>28974757
That's exactly what I'm saying, though. Evil moves are good because you can stack them. This removes that. For no reason. It's not mechanically broken, this is just nerfing it because Prof wants to write crazy, and that's a terrible reason to nerf something we've already sunk a ton of our XP into.
>>
"Sanna," You take a step up to her and grasp her hand with yours. She starts to pull away, but you look her dead in the eye and tell her quite firmly to stop.
She complies, and tolerates what you have to say to her.
"I'm serious, it smelled really good. I'd wear a bottle of it if you gave it to me. It's what drew me to your room in the first place." You blush a little beneath your fur," I even.. Well, I almost tried to taste some of it from my finger because I thought it'd be really good."
You pause for a moment, smiling wide without showing your teeth, have to practice after all.
"So, let me wear it sometime, okay?"

Sanna looks at you with a slight blush, her mouth trembling into something of a smile, the softer side of her peeking out for a moment.

"So- you two get at each other's crotches or are you are just fuck'n getting around to that? We've got a mission don't we?" Devon intrudes and completely misreads the situation.
Your mouth hangs open at how ridiculous he sounds, while Sanna pulls her hand away, rolling her eyes,"Ah, yeah. Hotdog's right, lets get this show on the road, huh? Don't go hold'n us up now, Ceru."
Sanna turns and you see Devon through the brush. He's wearing a wearing something of a muzzle to restrain him from biting, though you only see the very top of that, his coat being pulled up to cover his maw, the only real discoloration of his face. Gloves and long sleeves hide the thin black fur and claws, while a hood does it for his short horns.
It dawns on you that you're the least conspicuous out of your team.

Devon takes a step up and hands you something, a memchip.
"I was told to give you this. It's got a list of people we should check out, got anything so far since you disappeared yesterday?" His red eyes glean some kind of truth from your walk.

Giving him a nod, you confirm it,"I'll fill you both in on the way to the dorm."

>>28974885
I thought we disagreed on bringing Chuck to the dorm, Prof?
>>
>>28974883
I would only use nasty plot and snarl against a non-esper, unless they were really powerful, since I expect the typical esper would get murdered. There is very little reason to use feint attack against a non-esper though. It is 100% accurate, but so is remoraid/lock on. I would think quick attack is more for closing distance (or situationally, pursuit)
>>
>>28974931
He was teleported to the dorm which dealt with that issue.

The problem would be people seeing him enter or leave the dorm. Grumpy ported him in, he ought to be unconscious in a private room. When we're done with him we'll port him elsewhere.
>>
>>28974940
Well snarl nasty plot and crossroad killing would all work on non espers. Maybe not as well but it would be a boost.
>>
>>28974931
We did, until he fell unconscious and we had Goldie check him out.

It's fine now, since he won't know where he is. Keepin' it low key.
>>
>>28974909
Ask yourself "Is it broken now?". No. It's not broken now. It's not overboard.

So why is max stacking being penalized? Why don't we implement a maximum 'safe' bladder capacity of 5 and going overboard with filling them will result in pressure checks in which we randomly spray water so as to not rupture?

>>28974940
>We don't have quick attack yet.
>We don't know if it can combo in the same way that Feint Attack can.
If it can combo, then fantastic. I'll be all for buying it.
>>
>>28974913
what do you think of "feral mode" then? while it's been stated multiple times in-story, we haven't had much mechanical risk of going crazy due to pokemon grafts.
>>
>>28974982
As long as we keep him in a single room, that's fine. Best not to have him wander around collecting memories that could be scanned and taken from him.
>>
>>28974981
The only reason to use CRK is if they are weak to it, or resistant to Frost Breath.
>>
>>28974996
>So why is max stacking being penalized? Why don't we implement a maximum 'safe' bladder capacity of 5 and going overboard with filling them will result in pressure checks in which we randomly spray water so as to not rupture?
Isn't that the plan? To have us chain 3 Evil moves at max per action post?

'Course, then, I wouldn't understand why Prof would think we'd ever go overboard on that limit, unless we were going all out against an esper. And even then, it's not much of a penalty, is it? It would be negligible.
>>
>>28974996
Actually putting too much water in your bladder does cause them to burst. The maximum safe capacity of our bladders is probably what it currently is.
>>
>>28975071
>Isn't that the plan? To have us chain 3 Evil moves at max per action post?
As stated by prof, that would result in rolling to not go batshit crazy.
>And even then, it's not much of a penalty, is it? It would be negligible.
Then why implement it at all?
>>
On the way to the dorm, you tell Devon and Sanna everything about what you did at Lavender, the two of them seem a bit disturbed by that, though Devon much less.
Sanna can't believe you actually volunteered, and in retrospect, you can't believe it either.

You plug in the unmarked mem-chip to you Index and pull up the list...

>Quarry(Pewter)
>Foreman: Donn- A strict man and usually an upstanding employee.
>Laborers won't be worth much talking to.

>Warehouse(Saffron)
>Guard: Dirt- An older man with a bit of a chip on his shoulder and known for shirking his duty now and then. Originally from Pewter. His boss rarely catches him when he's lazing on his duties.

>Guard: Stuart- A somewhat younger man. Spooked by the nightly guard duty now and then. Bears a very gentle yet mildy suspicious demeanor as though he's hiding something, even if he doesn't know what it is.

>Warehouse Director: Michelle- A moderately older woman that's appreciated by all of her employees to some extent. She appears quite amicable.

It's a promising list. Though if there's an esper... You recall now that Seraphis had a hard time remembering some of the details of the whole error... Maybe talking to her would shed some light?
Though she said she'd prefer not to be contacted unless its important.
You'll need to respect the client's wishes.

also, form plan for dealing with espers. go over how to identify them, how to repair damage they've caused, and how to deal with them without killing them.

the squad needs to know beforehand, but we can just skip over what the plan was until it actually happens to save time.
>>
>>28975101
[X] Interrogate Chuck.

Let's not bring in Seraphis yet, if we don't turn anything up through some other means we'll contact her.

Considering that there's an Esper about doing stuff I would prefer to not let Seraphis in on things during the middle of the investigation. She doesn't have any means of defending herself against Psychic fuckery that we know of, so we can only assume that she is vulnerable to that type of attack and if we tell her things the enemy might be able to find out what we know.

Make sure Devon knows to follow our lead for this, and that if we need a bad cop we'll call him in. For the sake of selling the good cop/bad cop act during the interrogation he should reluctantly obey us, but be chomping at the bit to go to less friendly questioning methods.
>>
>>28975101
>It's a promising list. Though if there's an esper... You recall now that Seraphis had a hard time remembering some of the details of the whole error... Maybe talking to her would shed some light?
Oh, now it makes sense why Ms. Seraphis wouldn't want us bothering her with details of the mission. If she suspects that an esper is involved, she must also believe that she's vulnerable to having her own memories read and erased.
>>
>>28975101
I'm willing to bet all these people have been mindwiped.

It's not going beyond that. It actually requires slightly less than the that we've been discussing.
Three moves in one or two turns = san check.

That's crazy. Most of our Evil moves are designed to combo. Taking this away without mechanical reason is a terrible design choice.

If Prof doesn't want people sperging about mechanics during the thread, he probably shouldn't stop writing the story updates to discuss mechanics.
>>
>>28975255
We have a really good team for dealing with Espers.

Goldie is an Esper himself so he knows their tricks and can detect them, as well as being resistant to Psychic attacks due to being Psychic.

Devon is Dark, so they can hardly even touch him.

We're not quite as good as Devon against them, but we can hold our own.

And we have Sanna for live capture.

Goldie locates them and keeps us abreast of what they're up to. Us and Devon double Snarl them, we might even toss in an Icy Wind in order to slow them down. Or spray them with water guns, or both. Sanna wraps them up and then shoves a bucket of Sleep Powder into their face.
>>
>>28975359

We should leave discussion of mechanics for another thread, QTG or wait until the session is over.
>>
>>28975333
Its not like we will be the sole source of dark moves anyway. If we know espers are involved we will be bringing Devon who can chain dark moves for days while we stick to shorter, less feralness inducing, chains.
>>
>>28975309
We don't always have to chain into Evil moves. We've got other deadly techniques available to us too.

Although it's fine to discuss any problems there are in the proposed system.

>>28975359
Yes, that was definitely Prof's fault. He should know by now how much of a bad idea it is to bring up these kinds of things so early on in the thread. Should have left it for the post-thread discussion.

You, Sanna, and Devon enter the dorms, and are immediately touched by Goldenrod's mind, informing you that he's taken to an empty dorm room.

Once the three of you arrive, you get a message from Goldie.
(Hey Ceru, can you have Devon wait outside? Like, at the end of the hall? Or preferrably outside of the dorm?)

(No.) You think back to him. (He can wait outside though.)
(Fine, so long as that ridiculous mut doesn't disturb my-)
(Goldie.)
(Yes Ma'am.)

"Wait out here Devon, I'll call you in if we need you okay?" You give him an amiable smile, despite Goldie's mental rudeness.
Devon unzips his coat's collar and scratches underneath his muzzle,"Yeah, sure. Just tell me where you want me Ice Queen. Sooner we can get back to training the better."
He walks off, down the hall. His spaded tail uncurling from around his waist.

At least he's being good.

It takes a little to get Chuck to come around. In that time you tell Goldenrod what you learned from the ghost.
When the man does come around, he start to freak out at the strange and new faces around him until Goldie makes eye contact. Relaxing him quickly.
"He's still a bit out of sorts since the backlash from trying to access missing memories. An Esper that takes their time doing this would do a better job. They left his mind pretty malleable too. It's been done a lot."
"I met him on the train yesterday on his way to kill himself." You comment off-hand.
Goldie nods," Ah, that'd get around the nasty business of Mediums finding out. I might fix that too."
"Could you?"
"Of course."

Goldenrod touches Chuck's forehead, focusing a little with an uncertain grin on his face.

Sanna stands at the door, looking over the whole thing,"Hey Goldie, this guy gonna be alright?"
Goldienrod nods,"Yeah, just gonna take a bit." His eyes slide over towards you and he holds out a hand," I'll start patching in what memories make sense."

You give him your hand and slip into a trance.

Maybe I'm letting HFY poison my mind a bit too much, but I'd think that HP would be a human's only 'good' base stat.

Like, passable base hp but near everything else is ass and humans really get screwed over on the level mod.

For a time, everything's blank as you feel your memory from the ghost patched in with color and form.
More people from that office come into color, focus. There's method and detail, though still an overbearing fuzz to the whole ordeal that's cut off short.

You hear a snap and you come to, fully away of everything again, nodding slowly.
"So, how'd it go?

Goldenrod smirks, feeling pretty satisfied.
"Well, I found out some things."
"Go on..."

Goldenrod tells you and Sanna that the error found originated from the Pewter Quarter's transfer from Quarry to Saffron's warehouse. You confirm that Seraphis included those locations in her list.
What's more, you confirm that he knew the ghost, "Louis Nepher."
He was the next "filter" in Silph's corporate system. Chuck sent the report to Louis, and then Louis disappeared. That's when the hole appeared for that person.

So that answers the name of the murdered.

You ask him if Chuck knew or saw the killer or the thief.
Goldie shakes his head," No, that's something they were careful to cover, if we looked over others, we might be able to find a person that they got sloppy on. This case is hard though."

>[] Report the name of the missing person to Miss Seraphis.

Start with Stuart.

Do *not* contact Seraphis. If she's compromised, then the less she knows about the ongoing investigation, the better the mission will go.
>>
>>28975887
>[X] Investigate the people from your list of leads.
Maybe if we get a few more leads we can get back to Seraphis, and I don't think it's a wise idea to keep on mucking about in Chuck's head, at least until he's had a bit of a rest.
>>
>>28975933
He already did that.
>>
>>28975887
Oh, I have an idea!

What if we implanted some false memories in Chuck regarding the identity of the victim/the killer/the investigation in general, and then let him loose to ask some awkward questions to pertinent individuals.

Then we tail him and see who goes after him.

Can we at least keep the idea as a backup? If we don't get anything out of the other interrogations, then we can use that to hopefully capture one of the perps.

It's a very efficient way to get the answers we need, if not a particularly ethical one. But ethics have no place when the mission is endangered, so I would advise that we don't disregard it outright.
>>
>>28976158
On the contrary, ethics have every place when the mission is endangered. You must ask: is the mission worth it?

In this case, the answer is "actually probably yes" given that the perps are murderers who will likely kill again if they feel they must.
>>
>>28976155
oh, duh, silly me.

Let's start at the warehouse. Move our from proximity of the victim. One of the guards.

We'll ask him about anything suspicious going on. Then ask the director if she knew the guy she was sending reports to.
>>
>>28976155
Is this asking who to spy on? If so, I'd say we should catch Dirt when he's slacking on the job, when he's unsettled and more likely to let something slip.
>>
>>28976152
Oh, it's most certainly evil, but it wouldn't cause a stir. Anybody he asked would either already be aware of the scenario and dismiss it, or would be *extremely* nervous that the guy they had mindwiped is asking questions again. And they would want to put a stop to that.

So they either get an esper, or an assassin. Ceru and Devon can deal with the former, wheras Goldie can interrogate the latter. We can then trace this back to the source, and if it matches up with the reaction that Chuck got to his questions, then we can black-bag the source for interrogation. Goldie can find out if anybody else is in on this, and they can be vanished away as well.

And that would get us our answers. Mission complete. No fuss, no mess, no loose ends, Chuck gets his life back. All he would have to do is play bait for a little while.
>>
>>28976189
I think that's the point. Gives us a hired goon to mind probe.

It'd be a perfect plan if it worked perfectly. Which is to say: the targets might start disposing evidence, we might fuck up protecting Chuck, it might get traced back to us... I'd say stick with strategies that don't endanger a civilian until there's no other choice.

You release a tired sigh,"At least he gets a rest." You look over to Sanna.

The four of you split in the Saffron Quarter heading to the warehouse incognito. Goldie raised complaint to working with Devon, so he's sticking around with you. While you can Goldie check up on Stuart during his changeover, Devon and Sanna go around to find dirt based on his profile.

Everyone's on the alert for esper involvement.

Stuart sticks out like a sore thumb, though when he catches you and Goldie, he gives the two of you a friendly little wave accompanied by a smile.
Profile was right, he doesn't seem like a bad guy, even though you're a ranger. More tolerant?
(If you talk to him, I'll check him to see if there's any pauses or inconsistencies.)
(Roger, sounds like a plan to me.) You reply.
(We may have to take him in for what I did with Mr. Zaphrain. Have we been cleared on that?)

You approach the man upon his post, a rifle held up at his side. You've seen them now and then in ranger training.

You've been told that these are effective weapons against people, though they're dangerous to use and rather ineffectual against them. Against people though?
Anyone can point and shoot. Though it's loud, it'd be noticed.

The gunpowder though. It stinks and leaves stains. Definitely no good for the field.

It can also kill rangers.

Stuart's posture is rather good, obviously trained kind of like a ranger, he's here to keep bad people from stealing from good people.
You decide to work off of that a little.
"Hello there sir, how are you today?" You start off with a nice charming smile, while Grumpy stands a bit behind you, looking rather shy.
The man winces for a moment, seeming disturbed by something, though your expectation seems to cause him to ignore it.
"I'm quite good little ranger. How about yourself? Bag any big bad monsters yet?"

You fidget a little in your dress, leaning your weight from one side to the other, and gripping your dress, little embarrassed.
"Not yet, I'm actually still working on that. What about you? Have you ever seen a monster?"
The man pauses at that question for a moment.
(There's something missing.) You hear from Goldie.
Stuart's position relaxes a little,"Why no, I don't suppose I have. Nice and safe in the middle of Saffron you know." He gives you a charming smirk. He's actually rather quite handsome,m he must have good breeding.
"Then again, I've seen you, little ranger, so I suppose I'm seeing some kind of little monsters." He says as sort of a half-joke.
You pout at that," Hey, that's not nice. For your information I'm a perfectly- ah.. Well.. Sort of normal little girl?" You kind of scratch your head, capped gloves blunting your nails.

The guard nods in a kind of playful, mocking agreeance,"Right, right. Of course you are. Two of you run along now, I've got to keep watch."

The main eyes you warily and you disarm him by pushing back some lose hair, tucking it behind your cat-like ears.
"You don't need to worry, I have a really good sense of hearing, nobody'll sneak past."
He begins to raise some kind of protest, though you won't have any of that, not right now. This is important.
"So you haven't even seen an Eevee?" You ask, perfectly innocently. The question making him space out a moment.
(He realizes he made a mistake.)
"Oh, right. Sometimes I forget that those things are monsters, right? Things are hard for their owners to put down sometimes. Pretty sad."
You nod slowly," So why did you say that you haven't seen any monsters?" This one's a little more pushy than the last, though you wear as innocent a grin as you can bear, trying to keep that accusatory stance to the side.

Stuart goes blank again.
(Again, he can't think of it.)
The guard mulls it over for a moment," Can't really quite say.. You know, that's a pretty weird-"
"Are you sure you haven't seen any monsters? Or any signs? Maybe... at night?"

The guard kind of goes blank again,(Hole's there.) his brown furrowing from mounting angers,"What? You think there'd really be a monster in the middle of the dome? Just going around aside from those eevee? You don't think that you rangers are doing your job right or something?
(He's getting angry Ceru, might want to bail.)
One last question.
"Do you know a guy named Louis Nepher?" You blurt out, and the man looks at you as if you just said something stupid.
"Uhm, no?"

Re-reading the post on how Devon sees things, I have to wonder how the Houndour/Houndoom species haven't made themselves go extinct yet, if they probably have a similar mindset.

Or is it less a problem since they're only about as smart as real dogs?

[X] Leave him alone.

Let him be, we know where the hole is, I doubt that we'll be able to get more out of him. He saw a monster at night, it was wiped, probably on the night of the robbery.

We know he only takes guard duty every once in a while, so we can look through the days he was on guard and get a good idea of when the robbery happened exactly. This'll let us narrow our search down a good bit.
>>
>>28978149

He got angry because we were probing too deeply into the monster issue. Whoever worked on his mind must have done that to make questioning him about these things harder.

Devon x Ceru Training days

Another day of training, you arrive first to the Rocket field, or at least you would if it weren't for that cat bitch trying to usurp your claim to being Giovanni's favorite. She gives you a smug look and fiddles with those sick yellow claws of hers, toying with them in anticipation of running them through your flesh. Her tail swishes behind her lazily with a calculated and slow metronome.
She's timing herself for an attack.

You can't let her think you're weak. You puff out your chest and angle your horns to catch some light while blowing out a puff of black flame that singes the foul air of this cage they call a city.
"Hey there fat cat, here first again today?"

She refuses to reply to you at first, a gleam in her eyes betraying her hidden schemes. Finally, she smiles, with violent sharp and cold teeth glistening in her maw.
"Hey Devon. I couldn't wait to get out here. Training here is a real honor." She says, though you know she's just trying to undermine her goal.
You get real close, looking down at the little ten year old, she looks back up to you, unflinching. She's actually challenging you, really?
"You got somethin to say, or are you just shitting me, you cowcat?"

"Uhm, Devon, that's a bad word. Uhm, mom says you shouldn't say things like that." Her eyes flicker away, searching your body for some kind of weakness, or no, to make you think she's let her guard down.
"Doesn't matter what your mom says, she's not here, get to training and trim that fat. You make me want to puke." You snort at her, finally making her back off.

Yeah, just like that. Just like that is how you're going to stay top dog, so long as she knows her place, and so long as you put her there.

(Get rid of that last question Goldie.)

Goldie vanishes from behind you, levitating behind the guard for a moment, touching the man's head and holding the rifle away.

"Just a moment sir- sleep..." Your Squad member whispers as the man's put into a trance.
It takes about a minute, but Goldenrod teleports back into his former position.
(Right before you asked about Nepher.)
(Right.)
Goldenrod snaps his fingers, and the man comes out of his trance angry again,""What? You think there'd really be a monster in the middle of the dome? Just going around aside from those eevee? You don't think that you rangers are doing your job right or something?"

Exactly the same, Goldie did a good job.
"Oh no sir," You're apologetic now," We were just asking about it because we heard there might be some in the area."
Stuart gets angrier for a moment before relaxing all of a sudden,"Oh? Well then, I guess if you're looking into reports, that's fine."
(I did that. He should let us move around now. I also found out that the monster's not consistent with an Eevee or a destabilized form. It's not something that I've seen in our dex either.)
(That was a bit above and beyond.) You admit to Goldie, he did a good job.

The Dex Entries are silly as hell. If they're all true, the entire planet should be a mess of devastation and Destruction.
Lugia causes a 40 day storm whenever it flaps it's wings. It's main mode of transportation is flying.
Entei causes Volcanoes (Plural, more then one), to erupt when it barks.
My favorite is Magcargo though.
One of Magcargo's pokedex entries is: "Its body temperature is roughly 18,000 degrees F. Flames spout from gaps in its hardened shell. "

A SINGLE Magcargo has a body temperatue of 18,000 F. The surface temperature of the SUN is about 10,000 F. A Single Magcargo is nearly twice as hot as the Sun.
You wouldn't even be able to approach it without bursting into flames from a distance away. Everything would melt into slag around it. And there are probably more then one in an area.

And that's just a couple. There's still Alakazam with an IQ of 5000, Metangs being able to shrug off Jet Collisions, Metagross being smarter then a Super Computer, ect.

There are two major possibilities, it's a Psychic pokemon we don't know about, or a non-psychic pokemon we don't know about and a human Esper mindfucked them.
>>
>>28979366
>Then stop getting uppity about demanding people read the dex entries. I've read them, they're silly shit.
He's just saying that there's a big difference between the hyperbole stuff and the stuff that just describes a pokemon's traits.

Such as with Umbreon. It sweats poison. We can accept that as fact.

With something like Magcargo, its temperature would have to be lowered down in this setting.

Use logic and reason to understand the difference between dex entries that just can't be reasonably applied and those that can.

It sweats poison, but it's move list shows that the only poison move it can learn is Toxic. So far as I've seen, this hasn't deviated far from the move lists aside from TM moves requiring a teacher.

The bait method would've gotten shit done quick. Though a man may have died.
>>
>>28979466
Just forget that fact and accept that it doesn't need the TM to poison stuff. In terms of the setting, whatever Prof comes up with comes first and foremost, followed by the dex entries. The game mechanics are the least prioritized and can be ignored.

>>28979476
Yeah, it definitely would have. But we just haven't been indoctrinated heavily enough.
>>

I'd say we got a decent amount done, talked with this guy and got some good info. Learned a lot of stuff (even if we lost charm...fuck)
Though I wish you ran till 6 am like the good ol' days when I had to awkwardly explain to people why I had bags the size of suitcases under my eyes.

Least you run more then once a week though.
>>
>>28979476
The first half of the thread, literally, is entirely devoted to standing in one spot waiting for Devon to take the bus.

Think about that for a second. Yeah we talked to Sana some, but it was damn slow pace for our first real mission, even if it is a slower less actiony investigation.

Give it time.

How could we not eventually be corrupted by such a competent mastermind?
>>
You and Goldenrod slip inside the warehouse avoiding the eyes of the workers.
(I can keep them from seeing us, though really we should've gotten our repel-tech for this.)
(It's authorized by Silph, right? It'd be on record.)
(...Nice to know that you've gotten smarter, you stupid fish.)
(Just doing what I'm told. You be good now Goldie, you've been a great help.)
There's a pause from the Esper, a silence in his mind as you take in scents, trying to find one that doesn't quite fit.
(Thank you.)
(Just the truth. Keep focused Goldie.)

Discerning the smells is hard. It'd be easier if this place were your territory, but its not. These smells are all new to you.
Though one does stand out. Something earthy and more natural. Not quite human.

>Acquired Unknown Monster's scent!

Spending some time here, Goldenrod gleans from the other workers that at least a few of them bear missing spots in their memories. Seems that the guard outside hadn't been the only ones affected..

>The game mechanics are the least prioritized and can be ignored.
Then why have a number of choices, situations and effects been based around Game Mechanics?
Hell, people pretty much picked Ceru's implants based on game move lists.
>>
>>28979536
If he had a Charizard like a proper Red, that Rhydon would be perfect.
>>
>>28979551
Anon, chiming in here. Are you being purposefully autistic?
>>
>>28979540
Let's speak with the supervisor.
>>
>>28979540
[X] Speak with the supervisor.

We probably aren't going to get too much from the holes in people's memories right now. We don't know enough about what we're looking for.

Let's see if we can find Michelle, she can fill us in on schedules which'll help us narrow down times, and she's likely to have better information than normal laborers.
>>
>>28979540
[ x ] Rendevouz with Devon and Sanna.
[ x ] Follow the scent.
lets get the group together and follow the scent.
>>
>>28979540
So there was definitely a monster here. I bet all the workers have the same mindwipe job. Let's just take the scent for now. Time to connect with Devon and Sanna. Maybe they found something.

Might want to come back to the warehouse, if we want more leads.

What makes you think he doesn't have a Charizard, Venusaur, and Pikachu? Pokemon Yellow is true route Professor.
>>
>>28979476
Don't take it personally, Prof. A setting like this means that every little decision could lead to major fuckups, even if nothing important happens when we succeed.

It's the limitations of the setting. Or at least mystery. It may have been better to give us a taste of normal, actiony survival, but if this is good too.

>>28979540
see if we can grab a sample of the scent, then rendevouz for repel tech and write down what we know somewhere safe.

>>28979551
What would you have preferred that is intuitive, consistently gives a variety of choices, and known by almost everyone?
>>
Rolled 95

>>28979540
Guysssss, we need to find someone notable who doesn't have holes in their head, that is a primo tip they are in on the job. I think we should at least have a quick word with the Supervisor or Director.
>>
>>28979540
>>28979647
Yes! Try to find a sample of the scent before we meet up with Devon and Sanna!
>>
>>28979658
that would work, unless they are Lelouch level of thoroug
>>
>>28979540
rendevous, then follow scent now before it gets any older.

We'll come back to talk to supervisor if the scent goes nowehre.
>>
>>28979647
A bit of consistency. Seeing the mechanics get alot of use then being told to ignore the mechanics is rather counter intuitive.
As it the reasoning "Use the dex entries, but reason it out to make sense."
Which at that point, my reason tells me "Umbreon can learn one Poison move, by TM. That part of the dex is retarded, toss it and focus on the "Mysterious Power, Striking Fear, Lurking in the Shadows" stuff. It's the same as tossing the "Magcargo is twice as hot as the sun" stuff out because it's silly and doesn't make sense.
>>
Seems its leaning towards meeting up with Sanna and Devon.

This gonna be guud.

Devon's a paranoid dbag.

Devon is not a senseless killer of civilians or teammates.

Some of y'all are being more tinfoil than he is.
>>
>>28979877
I am almost certain he has sniffed out and is -currently battling- some kind of rhino sized creature.
Hopefully.
>>
Maybe Devond and Sana worked out a good cop bad cop thing. That woulda been cool.
>>
I little bit of extra sniffing and further looking doesn't do much but turn up a single fine, almost silky brown hair. You ask Goldie if he's got anything to hold it with, and he teleports away for a moment, returning with a small vial fit for the hair.
"Not much is it?"
"It's something," You sigh. Still tired from the previous night. You've made progress, though you still aren't quite sure exactly what's causing this phenomenon. A monster from Goldie's insight. It's likely true.
(No psychic echoes here aside from my own. It's been too long for them to remain.)
(How long do they last?)
(Usually only a day or two.)
(Cold trail.)
(Yep.)

The two of you exit the warehouse with the sample, circling around to where you last left Sanna and Devon, it's to your dismay that there's a few civic guards questioning Devon while he's tied by vines to a light pole, growling up at them. from his defeated position. Over by the warehouse, there's a couple of guys administering first aid to an older man lying there.
There's some blood on the ground, though the man appears okay.

Off to the side, Sanna just kind of watches while chewing away at something in her mouth,"Oh, Ceru. Sup. You get any new info?" She's extremely casual about her muzzled squad-mate's precarious position.
"Sanna," You strain a smile, trying to keep a cool demeanor,"What in Arceus-name happened here?"
>>
Sanna blows smacks away at whatever's in her mouth," Oh, the old basterd started ta get a bit uppity with Devon during our little quiz. Really got under this guy's skin if you know what I'm say'n. He made a go for us, and I knocked the schmuck out. Devon pretends like he did it, civvie guard gets all up on him, I catch him, and now we can eitha wipe these idiots with Goldie or have Dev' use his rocket privilege.
Now or lata, doesn't really matta." Sanna shrugs, though her mouth's corners rise with some kind of smug satisfaction.
Before you say anything else, Sanna leans over and hands you a gun, leaning over to whisper into your ear. "Devon smelled old powder goin' off on this thing. Blood and burnt flesh too. Worth looking into. Lazy Basterd don't really clean his gun right.

A piece of evidence falls right into your lap...

>>28980206
A complete mindwipe might be a bit excessive. We don't need them to think that no one was here at all.

Just make them think that it was a simple case, a guy tried to punch a ranger and got punched, and let everyone go since the matter is closed. It's not even far from the truth.
>>
>>28980303
>>28980263
Too bad about that vibration thing, and the evolution being so far away.

Graboids proper, in our current state, will kind of suck. Hopefully we can just sort of freezemaul them when they try to eat us. Makes me wish bruise were here to suplex them.
>>
>>28980315
Well, a point blank frost breathy would not be appreciated for sure.

We could also probable sever the tentacles fairly easily with CrK.
>>
>>28980331
And, if needed, we could always have Devon burn them all up.
>>
>>28980331
>>28980340
Devon'd do fairly well, sure, but I'm leery at putting him on close quarters interception duty. Mostly because fire tends to go all over the place.
>>
>>28980315
Standing still and throwing rocks at a different spot works to distract them.

It would be fairly easy to water gun some dirt 300 ft away and then go.

We could also probs hear them with our cat ears.

Also repel gear.

So, we moisten the sand, they crawl at us, we flee, they burrow away, the moistness causes the sand to retain its shape, devon goes and fills the hole with burn.

too complex? Not even applicable because we're going to be fighting an entirely different type of graboid? Probably.
>>
>>28980419
Too complex.

Really, we could get an alarm clock and attach it to a drum filled with sleep powder and go for a live capture.

More simple and more effective.
