Your name is Elena Martin. You are a magical girl. About a year ago, you made a deal with a freakish spacebunnycat for one wish of your choice, in exchange for a lifetime job hunting down wraiths, ugly-ass monsters made of pure hate and despair. As a result, you got a totally sweet sword, a frilly yet sufficiently badass battle-dress, and a wide array of magical powers that let you do just about anything you want. You also got a Soul Gem, a beautiful egg-shaped crystal which tends to get darker over time--faster if you’re using magic--and needs to be refilled periodically with grief shards harvested from dead wraiths. If it goes totally dark, it will explode and you’ll die instantly. You kind of want to avoid that. You are also an employee of Apollo-Matrix Security Solutions GmbH, one of the largest and wealthiest private military contractors in the world as of 2021. As one of their best solo operators (and certainly their youngest), you are called upon for a wide variety of missions, a large percentage of which either involve blowing something up or stopping another PMC from blowing something up. Your often-inexplicable feats are generally attributed to either experimental cybernetics or nanomachines. (And honestly, you’re pretty sure nanomachines are fucking magic anyway.)The reason for this odd combination of jobs has a lot to do with the specific nature of the wish you made, which you don’t really have time to think about right now, because you are currently falling out of a plane.
Well, to be exact, the tactical insertion drone you were riding has just ejected you, leaving you in free fall as it turns away to return to base. You take a moment to relish the feeling of the warm Afghan night against your face, before eyeballing the distance to the ground. You’re close to the camp you were targeting, much closer than you were expecting. Even in the dark, you can see that it’s big. Prefab buildings everywhere, several big, very military-looking transport trucks, something that could be a small airfield...whatever this is, it’s not much like the temporary training camps the local insurgents usually put up. In fact, it reminds you a whole lot more of Camp Bastion, where you took off from--albeit considerably smaller.Starting from about two months ago, the local insurgency--currently being opposed by several PMCs under the (mostly nominal) command of the American and British armed forces--suddenly began shifting tactics. Attacks started becoming less frequent, more reserved, with suicide attacks in particular virtually ceasing altogether. Then things started getting weird. Stealth drones started getting radar-locked and shot down regularly, something that should have been impossible with the Cold War-era equipment available to the insurgents. Reports started trickling in of full-conversion cyborgs assisting insurgent attacks. Comms analysis started picking up signs of encrypted CODEC traffic on the airwaves, traffic that matched none of the keys used by NATO forces or the PMCs working for them. One stealth drone managed to get close enough to this location to get a few seconds of blurry video--it wasn’t much, but it was enough to tell that something was being built here. Your primary objective on this mission is to get into the camp and gather intel, in order to figure out just how the insurgents are getting all this tech.
>You consider your options--you have a parachute, but you weren’t expecting to come in so close to the camp, and opening it up may risk detection. Magical girls in my Metal Gear? Color me interested. Also, OP, give a time frame for voting purposes and such.Hope you're still there OP because this does seem interesting.
>>29790663OP seems to be one of those people who write really well, but really slowly. It basically the same with havocfett (another GM who has since disappeared) here.
>>29790749I see. Should the thread be bumped every so often so OP doesn't lose it? Or is /tg/ that slow? I only really ever venture here from /a/ for threadcap story time threads and MGNQ.
>>29790663I wasn't expecting enough interest (at least at first) to require a voting timeframe. 20 minutes seems reasonable from here on, I think.>>29790749Holy fuck it's been almost two hours. How has it been almost two hours? Well, I am running this on /tg/ at least partially to try and improve my writing speed.
>>29788287>>29788321>>29788374>>29788461>>29788469You’re too close to the camp; any guard with a halfway decent set of binoculars would see you if you popped your parachute now. Instead, you set your eyes on a small hill not far outside the camp, just high enough to do some quick recon, and angle your body to direct your fall there. Once lined up, you turn yourself so that you’re falling feet-first, and just before you hit the ground, you release a pulse of magic, slowing your fall so that you land gently on the ground, kicking up a tiny puff of dust. You grin. It took you months to figure out how to do that, at least without triggering a lightshow that could be seen for miles.Time to get to work. You flick on the AR display on your goggles, zooming in on the base. Your eyes are much sharper than human normal, and almost as good as an average cyborg’s, but you can see even more this way.And what you can see doesn’t look good. You tap your cheekbone below your ear, triggering your CODEC. “HQ, this is...Sparkling Snake, do you copy?” You wince as you speak your callsign. Your handler came up with it as kind of a backhanded compliment, making fun of your...unusual combat abilities while grudgingly acknowledging that you’re really, REALLY good at what you do. Good enough to get a callsign based on that of one of the greatest soldiers of all time, or so he claimed.
>>29790821I just got here!Post more!
>>29790821Don't you have a fuckton of other shit on SB to go through?Well, I guess /tg/ would amp the pressure up a bit.
I'm adding my vote for METAL RAINBOW for the callsign.Let's open our chute for now. No need to burn power just yet.
>>29790868“Loud and clear, Snake.” And there he is now. “Status?”“I’m outside the camp. Jim, this place is fucking huge. They have barracks, I’m seeing a runway, I’m seeing at least five or six IFVs--and I don’t mean Toyota technicals with armor, these are actual IFVs. VBCIs, looks like.” You narrow your eyes as you spot another familiar shape, a massive bipedal form kneeling down next to the IFVs. “And...fuck, is that a...yeah, those are Gekkos. Jim, since when do fucking insurgents have Gekkos?”There’s silence on the line for a moment. “...Snake, confirm Gekkos sighted.”“Fucking confirmed.”“...Snake, confirm your drone didn’t get turned around and you aren’t staring at Camp Bastion.”“God damn it, Jim, you have my GPS coordinates.”He sighs. “Right. Well. Mission hasn’t changed. Get in there, try and figure out where all this shit is coming from.”“Roger that. Snake out.” You close the CODEC call, and return to scoping out the base. It’s not too heavily guarded, though you can see a few guards (some of whom have the telltale heavy gait of full-conversion cyborgs) walking around the base, it’s likely they were relying on whatever high-tech SAM system they had installed to keep the base safe from prying eyes. So there are a few possible routes in; all you have to do is hop the fence. (Which you can do in a heartbeat.) You also see that one of the barracks buildings has enough antennas on the roof that it’s almost certainly got some kind of communications hub in there.>Once you’re in the base, you’ll first…>[]Get a closer look at the IFVs and UGs. >>29790926>>29791112You take another minute to gauge the movements of the few guards, then break into a sprint, running down the hill and towards a spot on the camp’s perimeter that none of them can currently see. Whisper-quiet, you leap clean over the barbed-wire fence, and make your way over to the antenna-festooned building, planting some C4 on buildings you pass as you go. Never hurts to have an insurance policy. The door’s locked with an ID card scanner, but a pulse of magic overrides it and opens the door for you. You make your way through the small barracks building, until you find what appears to be a server room. It’s got one terminal with a monitor; you try and fire it up, and are immediately presented with a password prompt. Another pulse of magic and you’re in the system; you quickly start digging through the server for comms records, ownership info, anything. It doesn’t take you long. You open a CODEC call once you’re sure. “Jim. I found out who’s supplying the insurgents.”“Who is it?”“Ever heard of Zeta Private Security?”There’s a pause. “I have. The hell are they doing out here, though? They’re Mexican. Hi-tech drug runners--”>[1/3]
“Huh?” There’s a voice from behind you all of a sudden; you instantly whirl around to see a skinny guy in fatigues with a mug of coffee in his hand. “Who--” You’re already charging towards him, sparkles of silvery light coalescing into an ornately decorated longsword in his hands, and you take the swing--“INTRUDER!” He cries out, just before you decapitate him, a fountain of blood spurting out from his neck. There’s a couple of sparks, too. He was wired. The alarm starts up immediately. Shit. You run outside the building, and there’s already soldiers converging on you, most looking like baseline humans but a couple definite full cyborgs. As soon as they see you, they open fire; but you break into a run, mostly avoiding the lines of fire and deflecting the few bullets that come your way with a swing of your sword. You reach for a remote in your pack and detonate the C4 packs you left behind you, catching at least a few of the soldiers in the blast. This is starting to look ugly, though. The Gekkos have woken up and they’re coming your way, doing that moronic-sounding mooing. Any way you go, you’re going to have to chop your way through something. Except, wait, there’s an opening that way, near where the Gekkos are coming from--[2/3]
>BOOM.Uh-oh.>BOOM.Actually, now that you look, there’s a blur in the air in that opening. A really, really big blur. Must be something with optic camo. You flick your AR over to infrared mode and…Uh…“Jim?”“Snake?”“They have a RAY.”>[] Ohshitrun.>[] RULES OF NATURE

>[X] RULES OF NATURE“A Metal Gear?!” Jim sounds as incredulous as you’re feeling right now.“Yeah. And it’s between me and the exit.” You grin, continuing to dodge and deflect incoming fire. “I think you know what that means.”“Snake, you’re good, okay? I accept that. But there is a very, very big difference between a Gekko or a Grad and a RAY.”“I’ve done fine against ‘em in the VR--”“You BROKE the VR. The shit you pulled in there wasn’t even possible in the simulation--”“A lot like the shit I pull in real life, huh? Snake out.” You close the call, focusing in on the fight.Time to put on a show. You draw power from deep within your soul and channel it out through your sword; it glows a brilliant white and extends to almost triple its normal length. You break into a sprint directly at the nearest Gekko, your sword melting the sand into glass as you drag it behind you. You’re not even bothering to deflect bullets now; you’re moving so fast that virtually nobody can get a bead on you, and the few that do hit feel like BBs, minor annoyances that do nothing to stop the momentum of your run. As you reach the Gekko, you slash the sword upwards as you leap, bisecting the Gekko’s head as you turn to face the next one. >[1/3]
>>29794248A circle of light forms in midair, halting your upwards momentum as you twist to “land” feet-first on it, then push off, sword-first, to impale the second Gekko from above. You immediately push off again, leaping upwards towards the RAY. It opens its mouth and begins to charge its plasma cannon, as panels on its wings open up and unleash a swarm of missiles in your direction. You slice through most of them in a flurry of inhumanly fast slashes, then grab one of the few remaining, twist around in midair, and fling it back at the RAY’s mouth. You’re pretty sure that violated all of Newton’s laws of motion at once. But hey, that’s why it’s magic, right? The RAY stumbles back from the resulting explosion, and you take the opportunity to charge forward, getting one quick slash in on each leg as you run between them. As it starts to fall forward, you jump up on its tail and run up its back, until, with a scream, you slash downwards through its neck, severing its AI core from its body. (And its head. But the important part is the AI core.) Then you stab your sword down into the headless RAY’s back, into the immensely complex mass of circuits that forms its nervous system, and send a burst of magic down through the blade. The RAY’s limbs twitch momentarily, as if seizing up. Then, impossibly, the headless mech gets back to its feet, with you standing atop its neck (trying very hard not to look like you’re hanging on for dear life). It faces the crowd of soldiers and unmanned gears. There’s a pause. Nobody’s quite sure how to react to this. Then the RAY opens its wings again and empties its entire payload of missiles in one go.--->[2/3]
>>29794268You don’t let go until the smoke clears and the RAY finally collapses to the ground. You de-summon your sword, breathing heavily, and for a moment consider just collapsing right there.Instead you raise Jim on the CODEC. “Snake here. The RAY is down. So’s just about everything else. Checking for survivors now.”You hear a sigh from the other end. “...I guess I’m glad you’re on our side. Sending out evac now.”By the time the Black Hawk arrives twenty minutes later, you’ve taken out the few remaining soldiers. Some of them nonlethally; you’re pretty sure they’ll be good for an interrogation or two. Frankly, you better hope they’re good for something, because that took way more out of you than you’re willing to admit. As you sit down in the Black Hawk, you idly check the turquoise gem in your left gauntlet.>SOUL GEM: 54%Darkest you’ve seen it in a long while. You’re gonna have to take out a lot of wraiths before you try an op like this again.[3/3]
