It is the year 22XX and Humanity has reached the stars. Alas, even though they have attained the lofty goal of interstellar travel, mankind has yet to conquer it’s baser instincts.

Humanity is ruled by ultra-Corporations. Some own continents. Some own multiple worlds. ut no matter who you are, everyone is a citizen-employee somewhere. The qualms that beset corporations of the past, copyright infringement, tech theft, still exist. If anything, they are amplified by the scale of the players.

Without government to turn to for legal recourse and separated by millions and billions of miles, corporations have turned to less savory solutions to resolve disputes. You are one of those solutions.

You are an elite mercenary, also known as a High Impact Public Representative, of the StrikeOut Company, a group of mercenaries who accept contracts and missions from the highest bidder. You are launched out of a spaceship in a drop pod filled with bright orange and highly toxic gel. You crash land into the target’s facilities, make a mess, do your job, and then get the hell out.

You are a Fall Guy. You are a Deniable Asset.

You awaken from cryosleep, nauseous. This is normal, although not exactly welcome. Burping slightly, you stumble clear of the cryoberth, nodding at Cyrus and Tsukino, both of whom are already standing up and getting their armor equipped. You look around and see an individual whom you assume is Clayton Burnside retching onto the floor of the cryobay. It’s almost nice to see that there’s someone else who gets more cryosick than you do. You attach armor plates to your envirosuit, glad that you decided not to eat before going leaving for Operation Shattered Moon. It makes not vomiting substantially easier.

The four of you exit the cryobay, all bearing large duffle bags that contain your weapons of choice. You all walk silently to the prep room, where you will receive a debriefing of the mission, as well as some complementary space food and space coffee.

You move over towards Clayton as you walk, until you're eventually in conversation range. You greet the merc with a nod, saying “Hey, Clayton, right? I don’t think we’ve met before. Ivan.”

You extend a hand. Clayton shakes it. “Ah, yeah, G’day. Looks like I’m not the only bloke who gets wogged out with the liquid laughs from cryo.”

“Uhm. Yes?”

“Too right. I’m tired of feelin’ like a fucking whinging wally everytime I get outta the berth. Good to see some bloke with the same problem.”

Careful parsing leads you to the conclusion that the strange man is talking about your shared cryosickness. Deciding to move forward in the conversation, you ask Clayton “So, Clayton, what’re you packing?”

“I got me my bang stick and a one man wombat gun should things on the two-way rifle range go south.”

You simply stare at Clayton, utterly nonplussed. That’s when you notice the koala stencil on the chestplate further away from you. “You an Australian?”

“Yea, how’d ya figure that out, mate? Was it the accent?”

Empowered by this new knowledge, you activate your e-glasses auto-translate software. It quickly gets to work. For a moment you stand there, appreciating your enlightenment. “Ahhhhhh, so you’ve got an assault rifle and grenade launcher?”

“Didn’t ya know? Blimey, are you a dill or something?”

“Does the language you're speaking even count as English anymore?”

Clayton pauses for a moment, before laughing. “Hahahaha, maybe. So what’re you bringing on the Op, Ivan?”

“I’ve got a Model 223, a pair of OMPs, and my tomahawk CQC weapon.”

Clayton whistles. “Right expensive, that.”

“Yeah,” you sigh, “StrikeOut’s got me by the nuts.”

As Clayton nods in sympathy, you have a disturbing thought. You’re being sent down to take out a moon station. That might require explosives. Scratch the might, that will definitely require explosives, and Clayton definitely isn’t packing anything with sufficient firepower. Calling down the hall you ask “Hey Cy! What sort of ordinance are you bringing on the Op?”

Cy turns around and shouts back “I got a GOLP3 with about ten missiles! And one MTW!”

Hmm. You rather hope that the prep room has more than just freeze dried food waiting for the squad. As the doors open, you see that it does. There are two large armored devices standing on the prep room table, flanked by the doughnut cubes and coffee dispenser. As the four of you take your seats, munching on dried out pastries and sipping coffee, a screen on the wall opposite of you turns on, revealing the familiar, but not altogether pleasant face of the Handler.

“Greetings squadron Whisky-Sigma. Today, you will be working as High Impact Public Representatives for the Kilburne LLC. They have experienced unnecessary breakage in local mining operations due to the presence of Limited Liability Solution’s Demi-Legal Asset Intervention Division. The C-levels at Killburne all have each other in a circular firing squad over the failure of cost containment. They consider it a high-priority actionable item that the DLAID base is eliminated, which can either be accomplished via on site demolition techniques or the necessitation of asset abandonment on the part of Limited Liability Solutions.”

You zone out as the Handler begins to run through the standard legal boiler plates, absolving Kilburne of any financial, legal, or moral obligation to you should the mission go horribly awry. Normally this shit happens on the drop, why is Corporate making us sit through it in the prep room? Normally this place is for unwinding and shooting shit before the drop.

Suddenly, the Handler’s voice changes from a pleasant corporate drone to a harsher tone. “I had to read all of that shit off to you motherfuckers here because three out of four of you seem to think it’s a good idea to shut off my comms in the middle of a drop. Knock that shit off, or I will have HR so far up your ass your digestion will reverse, are we clear?”

Everyone in the room nods dumbly.

“Good. Now, these two devices on the prep table are Hi-Ex Det Cores. Kilburne generously donated them to you from their mining operations should you require some extra kaboom to bring the DLAID base down. Now I should warn you, these won’t go off just from being dropped, but I’m not sure how well they handle getting shot. The Kilburne contact skirted the issue. Anyone taking? There will be hazard pay.”

Cy should hand the bombs, he's the best suited for that. Also, offer to tech up his suit before getting out,and offer the handler our customary "see you at the bar, I'll pay the first one"
>>
Rolled 1

Seems we have a tie, going to roll a d2 to decide.

1- Take the explosive
2- Don't

Obviously, any votes after the roll will override it, assuming I see them before I finish writing
>>
>>29827527

Yes. Although we should seek to use them as quickly as possible.

If we get shot, we're fucked.

That said, our mission is to disable the base, right?

I'm thinking we use the high explosives to breach the compound in a mess hall or barracks full of unarmed security personnel - the charges blow, and the soldiers suffocate. We pop in through the breach and clean up any survivors.
>>
>>29827654

>>

Cy is the heavy weapons guy, so he would be drawing lots of fire as he carries the most weight of fire

out of the rest of the team, Clayton should be the bomb guy, or we should take it
>>
>>29827656
i'm thinking we should plant both of them in separate places, we insert, clear the breach, find something valuable, plant on there and set it on a timer, and move on for something vital/critical to the base, where we can plant the second one

the first one on a timer can be a distraction for us and divert security for where we want to plant our second charge

>>29827727

Part of you, the more sane, less Russian part, thinks that taking a Det Core might not be the wisest decision. Then again, hazard pay does sing a sweet, siren song. Both you and Clayton stand up, reaching out for one of the Det Cores. “Ballsy bastard, you are,” says Clayton, an easy smile forming.

“Could say the same of you.”

Clayton chuckles as the pair of you attach the Det Cores to magnetic clamps on the lower backs of your suits. The Handler blinks. “Alright then. You both shall receive a 4,000 credit bonus upon the successful completion of the operation as hazard compensation. The Det Cores are shaped, so as long as they’re not pointing at you when they go off, your suits should be able to protect your from the blast from at least ten meters away. I’ll send you their respective detonation codes.”

A red comm icon appears on your e-glasses. The white sunburst in the center of it leaves no question as to it’s purpose.

“Alright Whisky-Sigma. Get to the pods. We’re launching in one hour.”

The four of you file out of the prep room and begin the Long Walk. No matter what the cruiser’s layout is, the walk to the Drop Pod bay always seems to take an eternity. It took an eternity on your first mission, it’s taking an eternity on your second, and if Darius is to be believed, it’ll continue to take an eternity.

Eventually, however, you arrive at the Pod bay, where a lonely techie gives the Pods a once over prior to launch. You lend your comrades a hand with their environmental seals, as is the techie’s duty, before the four of you slip into the orange, potently toxic embrace of the impact gel.
>>
You can feel the pod shift backwards as the firing tubes align. It may only be your imagination, but you think you can hear the loud clang of the launch chamber door closing.

Any second now…

THOOM

The pod accelerates down the rails of the mass driver, picking up speed in the frictionless vaccuum.

A polite beep informs you that you have now exited the cruiser.

Another polite beep informs you that you have no entered for what qualifies as atmosphere around this podunk moon.

A much less polite roar informs you that the retro rockets have fired.

CLANG.

Guess you must have punched a hole right through the ceiling.

You activate your Mag-Locks, and they clamp you down onto the floor of your drop pod. The door blasts off, and your helmet’s noise cancelling features activate. The atmosphere of the corridor you landed in roars as it vents out into space. You watch as the impact gel follows suit, flying out of the pod in large gooey spheres. You look around the corridor. There is a man in a mechanic’s jumpsuit clinging onto a bit of railing for dear life, legs shaking in the vortex.

Eventually, the atmosphere finishes venting, and the mechanic falls down to the floor of the station, unconscious. You walk forward to the airlock separating this room from the next, an access card pilfered from the mechanic unlocks the first door.

You look down at the unconscious man. You think you can see his body attempting to breathe.

You decide to drag the mechanic into the airlock with you, pilfering his wallet as a rescuer’s fee. You can't help but notice, as the airlock doors close behind you, that the rails that hold them in place are easily accessible from the interior of the airlock. Smart design, easy to service and replace them. As the room fills with oxygen you’re somewhat pleased to the mechanic start breathing again, breaths coming ragged and heavy. As you fiddle with the access card, you glance out of the airlock doors. It leads to a room covered in monitors. Banks of terminals are running perpendicular to your door, with a large screen near the far left side of the room. Red lights flash, and through the door you can hear muffled sirens. Gazing through the door you see a pair of gun barrels pointed at the airlock doors from behind the banks of terminals.

Seems like they noticed your arrival. Must’ve knocked too loud.

Activating your comm array, you attempt to contact your fellow squadmates. However, all of their icons come up yellow. Out of range. Probably blocked by the radiation shielding built into the station walls.

You glance around, there doesn’t seem to be any substantial cover for the first five meters out of the airlock. You may have to make some of your own.

You work quickly, mini welder burning through the rails that hold the airlock doors in place. Seizing the impromptu shield by the handle, you groan under the weight. Shit is pretty heavy even for a guy with augmented muscles. AK-94 rounds bounce off of the heavy metal door and you stomp forward, both hands required to hold it up right. As you near what you assume to be the security personnel’s cover you heft the airlock door up with a grunt and chuck it forward, glad to be rid of the load.

The door crashes into three or four terminals, completely flattening them. Unfortunately, that’s all that was flattened, the guards being smart enough to back away from you during your ponderous approach.

“Shit!” you swear as you roll behind the cover of a bank of terminals, bullets whizzing through the air you occupied not moments before. As your helmet’s mufflers engage once more you stick both OMPs over the edge of the bank and open fire. You empty both magazines spraying the area with small arms fire. You reload the two submachine guns, waiting for a return salvo. There is none. You poke your head around the bank of terminals and are greeted with two dead security personnel. You look back at the airlock and are displeased to see that the mechanic got caught in the crossfire. A quick check of his pulse reveals him to be quite dead.

Sighing, you look around the room. Seems like this area is mission control for Limited Liability Solution’s raiding parties. Doubtless there’s tons of juicy info in here, should you be able to access it.

Accessing the tactical map, instead of small dots of light where your squad mates are located, there are just large orange circles. It seems like the cruiser is having trouble pin pointing people through the radiation shielding. However, your own circle and Cy’s circle overlap, sharing almost half of their area. Guy has to be close by.

You contemplate the terminals before you, so tempting with their loads of proprietary criminal information. You briefly consider running a .exe that you downloaded from the net after Niels finished giving you that Mocha 12 tutorial. Normally you wouldn’t have risked it, but you felt confident after the lesson. You boot it up, and about fifty pictures of women, men, and some mixes of the two in various stages of undress appear on the your HUD. Curing furiously, you restore ByOS to an earlier drive state. You had that one coming.

Wandering over to the two dead security officers, you snatch up the AK-94 that looks the least likely to fall apart. You’d like to take both, but between the OMPs, Model 223, tomahawk, and Det Core, you hardly have enough space on your suit’s tactical rigging for one AK-94, let alone two. Sliding the remaining mags form the guards into various pockets, and their credit chits into your wallet, you stand upright and stride over the airlock on the opposite end of the room.

Opening it, you stride quickly across a long hallway, as you near the opposite end of it, Cyrus’ comm icon turns green. Seems like you’re in range. You open the link.

“Hey Ivan.”

“Sup Cy?”

“Where are you?”

You send him your exact coordinates on the tactical map.

“Fucking perfect. I’m in the room you’re about to enter. There’s about three or four security personnel in here and they’ve got a whole lot more guns than I’m able to deal with. I’m pinned down behind a support strut. You gotta help me out of here.”
>>
You glance through the airlock window into the next room. Four mercs are standing at various points around the room, all focusing fire on a pillar in the far corner. The closest one to you is still pretty far away, almost twenty meters away. There’s limited cover, this seems to be some sort of mess hall. Two of the mercs closest to Cyrus have flipped over a metal lunch table, and are in cover behind it.

>Plan of Attack

>>29829821
sprint into cover behind the closest pillar, then open up on the mercs with our OMPS to take out a few at best, and distract them at worst, it will give Cy some breathing room and maybe a small window to return fire

Look, I'm just asking that you please don't start trying to do shit for meta-reasons, especially on things that could endanger the MC or make the mission needlessly harder (ie. alerting them to where we are or initiating some kind of security lockdown.)

>>29829821
Go for the mercs closest to Cy in a surprise attack. Rush them, take a couple shots at one with the Revolver and Tomahawk the other. Take their cover and lay down suppressing fire on the other pair with an OMP.
>>
>>29829821
Sneak up and melee the closest one, shoot the other with the revolver.

Alright, I'm reading a stealthy attack on the first merc with the Tomahawk, followed by a revolver shot to the other, then try to pin the remaining two behind the lunch table with your OMP, so that Cyrus can finish them off.

You slide the airlock doors open, the hydraulic hiss too soft for the security guards to notice amid the roar of gunfire. Moving as quickly as you can without running, you take rolling steps across the mess hall, the soft click of your boots against the metal floor too soft for the guards to hear. You speed up as you near the closest guard, tomahawk raised to strike.

A mistake. The guard hears you somehow, and instinctively ducks, the tomahawk whiffing through the air centimeters above his head. You lean back as the guard lashes out with combat knife, spinning violently to face you. You aren’t fast enough, and cherry red bubbles up from your right bicep, stark against the black of the environment suit. You grit your teeth through the explosion of pain and bring the tomahawk down onto the guard, scoring a deep gash along his collar.

As the guard collapses you slam your back against the pillar he was taking cover behind moments previously. You hear a steady tinking sound as the second guard opens fire on your pillar. Seems like the stealth option has failed. Waiting for the sound of bullets striking metal to subside, you lean out from cover. Across the room, completely out in the open, the guard fumbles to reload his AK-94. You take the shot.

The guard’s head explodes.

You can hear shouts as the remaining two guards realize they’re being flanked. You open fire on their position with your OMP, forcing them out of cover.

You comm in with Cy. “Take the shot! They’re in the open!”

“Can do.”

You hear a burst of fire. Peaking out from behind the pillar, you see two more dead guards.

Both you and Cy pat down your respective kills before meeting in the center of the room, Cy bearing a shiney new AK-94. You didn’t know they could come like that. “Well now what?” You ask.

“Well according to my map, Tsukino and Clayton’s circles are about the same distance apart but in opposite directions. What do you think? I’m leaning that we split up and meet back here with both of them.”

“Seems like a good idea Cy,” you concur over the comm-link.

“Course it is. I say-”

“Dibs on Tsukino!” you announce before Cy can finish talking. “Ha. Ha.”

“Damnit!” swears Cy. “Fuck, alright. Man’s gotta respect the institution of dibs.”

Chuckling to yourself, you part ways with Cy, heading through the eastern doors towards Tsukino’s estimated location. As you hurry through the halls, you notice the lack of security guards in the area, despite the intruder alarms still flashing red.

Then, as you turn a corner, you find two guards lying a pool of blood, both throats slashed. Their expressions of shock turn ghastly as the alarms flood the hallway with red light. You walk forward towards the guards’ corpses slowly, scanning the corridor as you do. You lean next to the corpses, trying to see if you can find any clues or hints. Unfortunately, you lack the medical training required to make any assessment beyond “They got sliced up real good.”

Just as you stand back up, the lights in the corridor cut out.

Instincts kick in, and they propel you into a forward roll. You can hear something whistle through the air your torso occupied moments previously. Quickly rising to your feet, you execute a back handed swing, and manage to catch something with your tomahawk. Jerking hard, you yank whatever it is out of your assailant’s hands, sending it clattering down the hall. You think you can hear a foreign swear, then an armored foot connects with your head.

You topple over, the blow dazing you for a half second. Not enough time for your assailant to retrieve their weapon, you ignore the shooting pain and reach out with your innjured arm and snatch their leg just as they lunge for it. Dragging them back away from their implement of execution you raise your tomahawk for the finishing blow.

Just then, the lights come back on. You’re not entirely surprised by the identity of your assailant.

“Oh, hey Tsukino. Didn’t know it was you.”

“... Many apologies, Kostov-san. I hope I did not injure you.”

You release Tsukino’s leg, allowing her to retrieve her katana.

“Any reason you were hiding in the vents?”

“I prefer a more subtle approach than you do, Kostov-san.”

“Most do.”

The two of you consider one another. Goddamn, can she kick hard. You rub your head, grateful for your helmet.

“Kidnapping? Kidnapping who?”

“Please excuse me Kostov-san. Kidnapping was not exactly the correct term. It would be… ransom? They are holding capture mining crew for ransom. And judging by the number there, Kilburne has not been buying their employees’ freedom.”

“Well, we don’t necessarily have to destroy the base…” you mutter, trailing off at the end. “We just need to eliminate all of the LLS personnel in the base or something else along those lines to render it unusable, force them to evacuate.”

“Yes, perhaps that is possible, Kostov-san.”

“But either way, we need to let Clayton and Cy know about this. C’mon, we have a rendezvous point back at the mess hall.”

You take point and lead Tsukino back to the mess hall, the pair of you moving as fast as possible through the winding corridors. You keep on double checking your comm icons. Cy and Clayton’s remain determinedly yellow. You run up to the mess hall airlock doors and key them open.

You can see someone standing in the middle of the mess hall. They are tall. Much taller than a normal human. The man is covered in a mechanical exoskeleton, the framework plugged into an ENBI uplink grafted into his spine. Suddenly, he’s crouching, arm hanging low, as if he’s thrown something.

You look up.

There is a table.

It is headed for your face.

Fair enough.

So we go on a rampage and kill everything moving until they decide that it would be a better idea to just fuck off then face us?

While I agree with you that broadcasting is a dumb idea.

>A. Our mission is to wreck these fuckers, not to get phat loot for ourselves.
We're mercenaries, our only job is to get loot. Emptying out the complex is a good idea, getting on a loudspeaker is a shitty one.

B. If they live, they'll come back to be a problem. We're suppose to be a problem solver.
Actually since it's not in our mission details if they come back or not also falls under "Not our fucking problem".

C. I doubt they'd believe it anyway.
True and valid point.

A tactical rampage, but yes.
>>
>>29833244

>>
>>29833224
Dodge it.
>>
I said not 100%.Last mission we freed scientists(MO,BTW) away for loot, and it got us ranked up
>>
>>29833224
Can we...uh...karate chop it in half?
>>
>>29833238
>our only job is to get loot
no it is not, thats secondary and tertiary to our actual fucking job working for StrikeOut
>>
>>29833224
Could our axe chop through it?
>>
>>29833258
Because that loot had real, tangible value for all the assets in our company, you dipshit. Looting everything in this base and completely ignoring the job we're being paid to do with no tangible benefit to the company is going to get us in deep shit.
Stop fucking posting.
>>
>>29833228
I'm game.

Let's just try not to do anything too crazy. Remember, our payment makes a note of how fucking looney we are
>>
>>29833244
Awesome Fall Guy, We'll see you tomorrow then.

Er, it's not our job to loot. But that is seen as a big bonus, since it's where most of our money comes from. But don't confuse that for what our big wigs want us to do. We wanna stay on their good side.
Hey I ain't against looting the joint, but lets not compromise the mission to do it.

>B
I'd rather not go "Haha, it's not in the mission specs, fuck you guys!" to our employeers.
>>
>>29833258
>>29833313
...

I'm not even going to both anymore, you don't even make sense at all.

>>29833287
Said it well. Stop fucking posting.

>>29833244
Cya Fall Guy, hopefully the retards won't be there
>>
>>29833288
Lets keep to military and security personnel then.

Lets avoid killing mechanics, engineers and maintenance personnel unless they threaten us.
>>
>>29833244
Thanks for running bro
>>
>>29833323
agreed, lets wreck the base, if we can, maybe give the civvies a shuttle if there is one, if not, too bad

we have a mission to do
>>
>>29833323
>I'd rather not go "Haha, it's not in the mission specs, fuck you guys!" to our employeers.

If they needed it done they should of asked. StrikeOut doesn't have a stake in this rock or who owns it after we're done here and they're the ones who pay us.
>>
>>29833244
>DAQ will run tomorrow at 19:00 server time
Not 3am HOORAY!
>>
>>29833323
>I'd rather not go "Haha, it's not in the mission specs, fuck you guys!" to our employeers.

But anon, that's how this works. We open channels and negotiate some extra pay.
>>
>>29833685
> We open channels
kind of hard to do when we can't communicate with the rest of our squad, let alone our cruiser and handler...
