Snakepipe Hollow was a stretch of land that was tainted by Chaos during the Gods Time (I think, though ironically the Gods Time was before time became a thing). It was sunk and is now a vast network of caves and tunnels filled with some crazy strong chaos. The titular Snake Pipe was an artifact lost in an old temple there. There are other magic items and such scattered about as well.

Prax is a desert land (though the natives don't think it barren like the Vulture Barrens) that was once lush but during the Gods War (during Gods Time) chaos ransacked it. Urox, the Storm Bull, actually trapped the Devil (Wakoboth or something, I can never spell it right) under a huge stone The Block. It is still there. The Praxans were lost and taught to survive by Waha. Waha then paired off men with various groups of animals and held contests to see who would eat from the land and who would eat from the animal. Humans won all but one of these contests (Morokanth won theirs. Humans say they cheated and the Morokanth say humans were cheating too, just not as well). Tribes are defined by their animals. Some of the major ones are Sable (Antelope), High Lama, Rhino, and more I can't remember off the top of my head. One thing they all have in common is that horses are unclean.

Basically Ernalda was killed by Chaos and drifted down to the underworld. While there she got fed up with the darkness bullshit and was like "Orlanth! Come apologize to Yelm right now and make everything better!" And that is why Orlanth initiated the Lightbringer Quest.
