OPENING
>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F468us4qCUE

Previously: Since arriving upon an unknown chain of islands, a Young Rocket and her friend have become recognized by a village of natives as "Rangers."

Now, with the help of an adolescent taking his first strides into a similar profession of monster hunting, the rocket team seek to find their way back home.

After two islands, they now take a hunting ship to a city outside the dome.

A day out from port and the captain spots a quarry, landing the first blow! With their own skills, and an uneasy alliance they hunt a monster of the sea!

A Young Rocket and her friends engage a monster upon the deck of a ship. While everyone else scattered, she stood her ground to blind the monster, only to be swatted up by its tail as it lifted itself from the deck!

Nearly finding herself lost at sea, Cerulean blasts back onto the boat with a new technique as the veteran hunting party finishes off the beast.

Within the city, Cerulean finds her way to the Ranger's guild, meeting a new race of monstrous human!

Within the guild, a foe stands in her way, through the slipping of her mind, she kills him before his own kin.

Now before a veteran hunter, she finds new aid in seeking a way home!
What does this ally have in mind?
What will Ceru decide to do next?
Will her ship be setting sail soon?

Stay tuned to find out!

SP+ 5
Ingenuity: n/a
Tenacity: +2
Charm: +1

The large beast of a humanoid sits across from you, guzzling down a honeyed liquor served by Rynnian attendants. Setting his own mug down, the strong froth still dripping down the fur of his beard, he gestures towards you, and commands the small cat to bring another round.
You sit there still wide-eyed and upset from what had transpired...

Fidgeting with your hands for some small comfort, you keep trying to figure out whether what you did was right or wrong, and the fact that you didn't even know you did it until after it was done. You can't help but to wonder if you'd kill again without knowing it. The Red one before you doesn't seem to mind the fact that you just murdered one of his comrades, no, he seems far more interested in your story.

You're served by the cat and it mows, pointing to the others, only to be snarled at by the green one, driving it away with its tail between its legs. She seems a little on edge.

The Vi-Smokhan drinks again, “You seem disturbed. Does death bother you so?”

Drawing your tail in for a little hug, you find blood at the end and flick it away, shaking a bit more in your seat. “Ahm... Ahm jus' not used ta' kill'n lads. Hunt'n beasties be mor me professiuhn.” You shake your head,”But...” You look to the beast hopefully, he said that he'd help you find a way home... Home.

“Unbloodied then, eh?” A rumbling chuckle comes from the old beast's maw. His sharp teeth glinting in the barlight. “Drink your stout, it'll calm your nerves.”

You look down at the drink before you, carefully picking it up as told and sipping at it gingerly. It's sweet, but has a weird bitter- makes you gag a little bit, and you set it back down, “Sorry.”You apologize. “Ah didn' mean t' kill yer lad.”

The red one pulls his lips back to show his distaste, a weathered grimace, “Death always comes eventually. He merely met his end before the rest of us.”
>>
>>32292355
“But, it not be a joyous thing. Op'site in fact, aye?”

“Your tongue... It is odd.” The Red one's eyes shift over to Kurojo, “Need the bird translate?”

Kurojo inclines his head,”If I may speak, Master Hunter.” Kurojo socializes in the common tongue, and the Red one approves.

“Only for her, I need not the thoughts of your kind.” The Red one growls.

“It's sad though right?” You say, Kurojo translating for you fluently. “I mean, he was one of you, and now he's just...”

“Gone indeed, and it had been deserved.”

“Deserved?”

“If I am not mistaken, he shot you down days ago. The conflict continued in that bar, he was insulted with your friend's water,” His eye flicks to Marine, “And then it continued here where the conflict is put to rest.”

“But couldn't we have just fought? I didn't know we were fighting to the death when I accepted, I just...”

“You are unfamiliar with our custom. When individuals wrong each other Smolder law dictates that they settle their difference.” Anger begins to rumble in the back of the Vi-Smokhan's throat, “One dies, and all Smolders move on. One less angry smolder, one less mouth to feed.” He eyes Kurojo with his reserved fury, “It is good for us all.”

You can feel Kurojo visibly shaken by the powerful man, in both his word, form, and the fact that you're surrounded by them. Kurojo opens his mouth to say something beyond translation, the lingering glare of Akabaron makes him rethink this.

What? Death being a possibility was rather clear from the onset.

Also
>>32293128
What this guy here said is right. No need to question him on why the death was alright, merely confirm that he is. We can learn about his culture some other time.

Anyway, Smolder is probably the correct race name of the Smorodhan, but I'm not sure how the "-dhan" fits. Smolderans?
>>
>>32293238
Their name is a play on the name "smilodon", which were biggass prehistoric cats with saberteeth.
>>
>>32293280
I always find it funny that the Sabertooth is called a smilodon.
>>
>>32293280

>>
>>32293319
Honestly, I was just never happy with the race name, and Smolder(an) just sounds better.
>>
>>32293353
You said than when they were still Smolodhans. I just assumed Smorodhan was Smolderan (so that's it, huh?) with Kurojo's speech quirk added in.
>>
>>32293391
We can just call it that. Yeah.
Hueh, Araraki would become Alalaki following his speech rules.
>>
>>32293432
That or he's just lucky that they have r's in their name instead of l's.
>>
“So... You're not mad at me for killing him?” You ask with a hesitant heart, flashing another look at the blood on your tail.

“Need I repeat myself?” The Smolder snorts out flame in his irritation.

“No sir.” You resign, still feebly massaging the anxiety out from your hands. It still bothers you. That you just killed a person. What would mother think? And why don't they care? You frown a little, taking a deep breath to try not to think about it, “You said that you've heard stories of glass cities?”

The Vi-Smokhan nods. Settling into his chair as though to reminisce. “It is said that they are from a time long past us. The stories are seldom told, but...”

The Araraki seems to focus a bit more on this conversation, though she still continues to keep an eye on her surroundings, almost paralyzed in her own fear. It's not far removed from what Marine's feeling right now either.

“It is foolishly thought that long ago we were all one people. Powerless and weak, yet still somehow dominating the world, ruling it uncontested. When their time came to an end as all things do, it is said that they hid within glass cities that cannot be seen by the eye.” He exhales, smoke fuming out of his nostrils, “Stories tell of riches and technologies exist within even those that have come to ruin.”

The Araraki moves, as though she means to say something, yet her shyness in the face of the Smolders keeps it from coming out.

Ignoring the lizard, the Vi-Smohkan leers at you “And it seems you have come from one of these places... Unless you are a liar? Come to think of it, what proof do you have?”

Put on the spot suddenly, all eyes at the table and from the surrounding eavesdroppers turn to you and Marine.

>>32293811
Seconding this question.
>>
>>32293862
>Uh, you know that you turn repel-tech on via the index, right?
If I recall correctly, the Index is not limited to being a switch for our repel tech. It also contains a map, lets us take pictures and notes, and miscellaneous other functions I may have forgotten.

We're not voting to show him our index because the text implies we'd let him examine it. What we're voting to do is just turn on our repel tech in front of him.
>>
Don't let him touch the index no matter what you do.
>>
>>32293862
A demonstration of repel tech is different from revealing all the functions of the index and how it is powered.

>>
>>32293955
That the index is not just a switch for our repel.

And Showing him the index does not mean letting him examine everything about it.
>>
>>32293862
For clarification, if we use the repel tech, will it be a medium-power variation that leaves us with remaining power, or is this a trap option to make us burn out all our power supplies?
Because I can easily see it being written as the latter, if not specified to be something under full power.
>>
>>32293991

>>
>>32294209
>>32294355
Additionally, if you can confirm that, then we'll assume from now on that all such related matters are this simplistic. Because you know, Prof, we need you to actually tell us if we need to think like an actual person or just assume a low level logic here. That seeing something "NEW" and "FOREIGN" (despite us also being new and foreign in appearance) would be enough to convince anyone that we're from some secret mythical place.

Just like how we got their respect (in a sort of way) by defeating Yellow in front of them, we'll do the same by showing the repeltech to everyone.
>>
>>32294676
That's really the problem here. Obviously, it goes without saying that no one would want to show everyone at the bar the repeltech. The problem is that the bar was out of mind since the current issue was shrunk to "what proof can be shown" to this guy.
>>
>>32294676

I'm not even talking about that. I'm talking about the options you gave.

And it goes without saying that people would have wanted to do it in private. It's just that the bar did not feature at all in the situation.

Instead of asking us whether or not we wanted to do it, a reminder that we're in a bar would have sufficed. Details that were irrelevant to the immediate problem should be brought up when the chosen action makes them relevant.

Looking at it, he's not really griping about the current decision, but what he thinks of your policies in general concerning choices. It's irrelevant to our current situation.

Really, the fact that we were in a public area slipped everyone's mind, but the moment you asked the question, someone immediately stated that we should do it in public. That's a whole different problem from what he was talking about. The issue is in just making these details relevant. I remember telling you this once in the Q&A thread, I think.

The fact that we were in a public place did not really connect to any of the choices you offered, so it didn't feature as prominently as it should have had showing our repel gear off been one of the original options. In cases like this, where a submitted option makes other variables in the environment relevant, you should make sure to point them out.

I hadn't mentioned the location because the original choices wouldn't have been a show. Showing the index would've been as easy as showing someone a book.

Then the original input of "Show him repeltech" came up and suddenly there was a tunnel vision. You're in a public place, you're being watched.
>>
>>32295207
We aren't going to show them the exact location.

We're going to report back and allow Giovanni commence negotiations and trade agreements.
>>
>>32295218
Yeah that hadn't occured to anyone. Just show them the index. Afterall he probably cant read it.

We are just going to have to be REALLY careful with it at all times if we do.
>>
You open up the plate on your arm, the Smolder's interest makes you wonder why the Kahkori back in Kakarkiko didn't question your equipment as much, even going so far as to accommodate this device. Popping open the index, you select the Repel-tech and set it to high as you stand up, all eyes on you.
The supervision makes you uncomfortable, especially from this crowd.“Um... I can prove I'm from the city of glass. Is there somewhere private that I could show you?”

Kurojo relays your message, before looking at you quizzically, realizing that you intend to show him your repeltech. You never did really explain it to him.

The bar buzzes a bit with chatter about you and the Vi-Smohkan. You've even attracted attention from the other race's sections, getting some looks from afar by Kahkori and Araraki. The Vi-Smohkan sees this and notes your concern. “The Araraki and Kahkori stay here, your outsider friend may come.” He gets up, and beckons forth the green one,”Nala, you too.” and leads you away to the corner of the bar, descending down a staircase lit by lanterns. Marine's right behind you, and “Nala” behind her.

You find the way lit by flame to be reminiscent of the Grave Spire. All those little blue flames. It's the only other place you knew of lit by firelight.

The way down is short, and the two of you walk down a hall with the skulls of great beasts mounted above and decorating the room. It's eerie seeing them put on display such as this. Even the museums back at the dome would at least stuff the monsters with something, keeping their skin on.
The Vi-Smokhan stops at a door mounted by the skull of a dragon,”My private chamber. Master Hunters such as I have the benefit.”

“Oi, is' a mighty fine quarter, aye?”

“Please don't talk unless you have to...” Nala cringes, almost pleading you not to.
>>
>>32295218
That was the point where you should have been.

"You're in public, would you like to change locations?"
>>
You enter the chamber and find it decorated with many advanced and intricate weapons hung upon the walls. Nala shuts the door behind the two of you, and the Smolders watch you expectantly.

You press the button to activate the repeltech, In the next moment, you feel frazzled, unable to feel anything with your aura due to the disturbance. However you see the clear suprise and awe upon their faces. After a few seconds, you turn it back off, seeing that you have the Vi-Smokhan's full attention now.

“That... How did you do that?” The Vi-Smokhan looms over you, eying you over with a keen interest, almost astonishment before he reigns himself in, he seems to be thinking intently. There's a hungry, inspired look within his eye.

“Um...”

Nala stands at the door...

Additionally, you should have acted more quickly at the perceived problem towards showing our index. That's often the problem when it comes to these choices that people accuse you of (and what the other anon was getting ornery about). They're broadly worded and vaguely interpreted. It doesn't help that you react hostilely at times, understandably so given the angry people you have to talk with, however not completely justified.

>>32295218
>I hadn't mentioned the location because the original choices wouldn't have been a show. Showing the index would've been as easy as showing someone a book.
>You're in a public place, you're being watched.
Which is the entire issue I'm discussing with you. The original choices were not concerned with the public. The given choice was. But the descriptions you gave had put the bar out of mind and irrelevant.

I've already described the issues of showing the index, but to expound; there are people who thought that it would mean showing off the index' functions. This may be because, judging from the votes, people would find it hard to believe that just the index' physical appearance would be convincing enough. Given the kind of creatures which we can expect to see in this world, a glowing screen that changes colors and has shapes (words) would not be anything truly unusual for what one could expect to encounter.

>>

Ice Shard would be more cost-effective, but Water Gun's rank is what decides the lethality of our shots whereas Ice Shard correlates to the quality of our projectiles. Getting Ice Shard stronger would make it better able to penetrate harder hides, but it's imperative that we first get it at a level where the force behind the shot is at that level first.
>>
>>32295735
>Quick attack wouldn't affect Icy Wind.
Actually, I asked Prof about this before. Around the time of our fight against the Qurapeco. He confirmed that Quick Attack could be chained with Icy Wind to make its effect come more quickly, so no worries there.

The Vi-Smohkan fumes for a moment longer before calming, taking a few pieces before squatting down upon a bed of furs. He pats for you to take a seat and you comply, pulling Marine after you to as refrain from offending the beastly person.

You take your own seat upon wooden floor, not offered a better seat.

“I believe you. Truly now, I believe you.” His orange-yellow eyes flicker between the two of you. You whisper a translation to Marine.
“So as I had said, I am willing to help you find your way home, however the aid that I can provide is meager due to the situation my people find themselves in,” There's a rolling growl within his throat,”I know not what the Kahkori have told you about us, though there is reason for what we do, and how we live.” A puff of flame streams from his nostrils as he exhales slowly to calm his infernal nerves.

And?

They couldn't do shit even if they found it.

Just let Sabrina and her rape squad loose.
>>
“We have warred with them in the past, as our people have warred with each other for generations. We are from three clustered islands, Smelda, Cruorcib, Melfurna, all of which have been reduced to ash and stone due to our own effective ignorance and boredom. Never did we realize how valuable a tree would be until it was gone, or how delicious flesh was until all that we had left were bones. Few creatures besides us live now upon our homelands.
Many generations ago, when the first Kahkori ship landed upon our desolate isles, we stole their ships and waged war against them, covetting tales of their lands. And yet... They had more ships, fuller bellies, and matched us despite our weapons, mere trinkets when they cannot reach their targets.” He gestures to a large cannon resting upon the wall, not unlike Yellow's that had shot you down. This one however is larger still, with polished forged metals predominating its construction.

You can only imagine what that would do, and stare in awe.

“Wha'... Wha' happened then? Ye' los' but you friends wit' 'em now?”

The Vi-Smohkan snarls, “Friendship is a strong word. They offered us peace due to seeing us as equals, worthy warriors. Had our stomachs not been so empty such honor would surely have pleased us... No. They offered peace, and then offered us a conquest. They turned us onto the Araraki after our war effort had been in vein.

Araraki held this great land, fending off the Kahkori for a great time. When we were offered a new enemy and food, we were happy to oblige. Mercenaries... Hunters now is the is the word we've come to know ourselves as.” There's a certain amount of peace from the Vi-Smohkan now, as though he's considered this fate many times over.

“But the Araraki weren't wiped out? They're still here, right?” Marine interjects, and you relay the words... in your own way.
>>
“Indeed. Like it was with us, the Kahkori were content to drive them back, away into the desert in which they now live. Those birds, tyrants are what they are.” His rage begins to bloom again, a clenched fist with retracted claws.
“The Smolders are at peace now because of them, but what food those back on the islands eat is what we hunt and return to them. Smolders still starve, and our people barely eek out a living under the tyranny of Kahkori. Instead, we still suffer their hate for the islands of theirs we've burned and are feared by the Araraki for our crimes in a war that was not ours.”

He snaps back out of memory,”As for why I've told you this, it is to explain: Kahkori are the ship-makers. They have the wood to float, not Smolders. However it is we that may have the technology to cross the ocean outside the flow of the currents.”

“An' why wouldn' Kahkori have it?”

“Because,” The Vi-Smohkan smirks, “They do not dabble in technology as we do. They believe it to interfere with the land, and some nonsense of aura or spirit. We are warriors... And inventors.”

Now that Ceru has a better grasp of their language, does she know that it means Hunter rather than Ranger?

>>32296391
Sad for them, I suppose. Sympathetic. We can't say for sure that our own people wouldn't have done the same thing, had we been in the Kahkoris position. But they remind us so much of Devon, so we know there's a reason behind their rage and aggression. They've been changed by their world. We can be happy, at the very least, that they've managed to find a sort of equilibrium.
>>
>>32296391
So the Smolders took upon a crash industrialization program and fucked their islands over. Desperation caused them to attack the first things they could find, the birds. The birds bullshit fightan magic proved too powerful for them. Instead of wiping out the Smolders the birds hired them on as mercs for their flowering "empire", sicking them on the desert folk Araraki. After taking the good parts of the desert from the Ararki the Birds now reign over the near area as a hegemon.

I have about the jist of it?

Some admiration and fear would be appropriate. While we can sympathize and pity them for the natural 'evil' in them, we can also fear it and respect the fact that they're able to put aside their bestial nature to let reason guide them. We can even admire their ingenuity at creating weapons and technology akin to our Dome's weapons. They seem to be tribal people, but they still seem to possess the kind of intelligence and knowledge the Dome people have.

You squirm in place, resolving how you feel about the story. The Kahkori were so nice... Tyrants? You can't really see that. But this smolder... By the state of his aura, you can tell that his story is honest. Marine seems to feel that too.

“Your people starve?” Marine asks,”What about fishing? I saw Kahkori in Kakarkiko doing it...” You relay her words, to see the Vi-Smohkan's lips twitch.

“Water is an insult to our people, as much as it may be a death sentence if we find ourselves in deep water. It is for that reason that we stayed below deck upon that ship.”

“Bu' ye' went an' fought tha' big ol' mons'er...”

“Our way of life. Fear is no excuse to not fight.”

You bow your head. Fear is no excuse to not fight, huh. “So... What'll y' do t' aid us if'n ya don't have th' boats?”

“You will need to become a hunter with that Kahkori of yours and purchase rights to a ship, order the wood and have a shipwright ready for construction.” He scratches at the fur of his cheek, “In the meantime I will return to my islands to pick up on Smolder rumors I've heard of inventors interested in true sea travel.”

“An' why can't y' jus' buy th' ship yerself?”

“The Kahkori make ships for Kahkori, not Smolders.” The Vi-Smokhan grins, “They fear that we'd try for another war... They fear what our idle hands have made since the last.”

Well, that's not ENTIRELY true. We're soldiers in our society, but we're also part of the most prestigious group there. Along with Devon (he was top student before Ceru), Bruise (from outside the dome; a social experiment), Goldie (another experiment, mixed with a very powerful psychic race, personally trained by Sabrina), and Lilac (Agatha's prodigy), we're in quite the influential position.

Hey Prof Detect says "20% Stamina" n the pastebin.

“Oright,” you nod. “Me an' me mate will do it if tha' be wha' it takes t' get back ta port.” You tell Marine the news and she sighs.

“It'll be a long adventure won't it?”

“Yeah, but at least we're safe, more or less, right?” You drop into your own tongue, smiling to Marine to comfort her. The two of you hold hands and nod together.
“Aye, cap'n me an' me mate are good.”

The Vi-Smokhan seems to smile, keeping his teeth held back, “It is agreed then. I will leave as soon as I have a ship chartered. Should you have business with me tell any Smolodhan belonging to the guild that you would like the see the Vi-Smokhan, Akabaron of Smelda. If they question you, tell them 'Je reap chakuen ojur des lan vize des driens.'”

“Wha's tha' mean?”

“It is something you come to understand as a Smolderan. Speaking of which, I would advise you not to tell others of our agreement. If the Kahkori found out, they would surely do what they could to stop us from making a seaworthy ship.”

You bow your head, again, a little unsure of the honesty in his words because of Kurojo but... “Okay, I won't tell anyone.”

“Good, now... You must become hunters. A simple test of your worth and teamwork. I will of course include the others.” He scratches at the beard of his chin in thought, “I will commission for you to take down an Ordile. It is a blue monster with a red crest that lives Among the Mantree coast directly to the east of here. A monster that makes its home in water, one that we find disagreeable Capturing it alive could make for good weapon material... Alternatively, you could hunt for a Garura in the Grassy Plains to the West. Killing one with child could be a bonus.”

“Why woul' ye' want th' chil'?”

“Tender meat.” The Vi-Smokhan chuckles, a growl rumbling low in his throat at his mirth.

I have a question on our skills.

Our Polearms skill is level 1 and provides a +2 bonus.

As does our Thrown Weapons

Why then does our CQC only give us +3 for level 3?

Same with Herbology and Gurellia Warfare.

And Also, Why does Aquatic and Amphibious combat only provide a +1 for level 2?

Quick attack gives priority. At low ranks its exclusive to movement and a physical strike, at higher ranks it can apply that blessing to other attacks.

I'll have to make a notation that a quick strike does less damage for virtue of balancing until its high enough to nullify that penalty.

“I'd 'ppreciate if'n I coul' discuss this matt'r wit' me crew.”

“Yes, you may. I don't need confirmation of what you choose to hunt, either quarries are yours. Just beware of the other monsters you don't intend to quarrel with.” A low rumbling laugh and he gets up, eyeing you carefully. He utters a quick word to Nala beyond the door, and it opens as he walks out of the room.

Seeing the time to leave, you and Marine hurry after, holding hands for each other's comfort.

Back up in the bar. The Araraki and Kurojo wait for you near the entrance, which actually surprises you, given that the lizard had been so set on scurrying away at the first chance she got.
Kurojo looks to you, with some small sign of relief upon his face.

“You were gone for a whire, thought he meant to eat you or something...” Kurojo jokes, though his posture is rather serious. He hadn't said anything, but you can tell that he was concerned.

He reaches for you, but you flinch a little bit away, “No, just talking. We got a job, well a test to become rangers. Garura, a monster to the west, we get a bonus for one with a child. Ordile to the East, a bonus if we catch it alive.”

Marine gives Kurojo a slight jab in his forearm and cocks her head over to the Araraki that's waiting patiently. She seems startled when Kurojo translates out of nowhere. He seems a bit snarky with it, but Marine's glare makes him relay the information a bit more gently.

“I think Marine and I would be good for the Ordile, but if you guys want to hunt the Garura...” You smile kind of sweetly, even though you're really not in the mood after all that's happened.

“I've heard of Garura from Mukon. That Smorodhan is trying to pray a trick. Ones with children are twice as mean. They fight tirr they are dead.”

“What about the Ordile?” You ask, the Araraki nods after the tanslation.

“Ahm...” The Araraki finally speaks up in common, “Ordile. We can do.”

“Yeah, I think the Ordile is good too.” Marine smiles, more for the Araraki's comfort. For some reason she's being really nice to the lizard. The Araraki bows her head beneath her mask, averting eye contact.

“We sorry if trouble, Jo.” She seems to say to Kurojo.

The Red bird scratches at his tusks,”Whatever.” He dismisses her,” Ordile it is then. I will use my sword.” He points over to his back, the shining blade in a pitch-black sheath.

“We... Ahm... We get weapon before leave.” The Araraki says after a translation, she glances to you and Marine, still a bit anxious at everything.

“Uh...” You and Marine look at each other, somewhat confused. “I'll use my guns?” You say, showing your palms. Kurojo knows a bit about them at least.

Marine clacks her hardened knuckles together, “Pewter style for me then!” She giggles, flexing her fingers. I'll bash it good in the head!"
The Araraki leads the three of you to something of a hostel made entirely out of bone in a part of the city that's obviously permeating with Araraki culture and architecture. Whole skeletons molded around mud and clay for less temporary homes and buildings with others composed of nothing but a few giant ribs and skins sewed together and wrapped around the outside.

“We go alone. Wait please.” She disappears inside, and you almost take a step forward, before being halted by Kurojo.

“She meant herself.” he explains.

“Bu' she said we.. An' then alone...” You realise how much more the Araraki's speech is. “Why she b' sayin' we all th' time?”

Kurojo shrugs, “I didn't ask.”

The three of you wait for a little before the Araraki comes out with an odd weapon. A long staff of bone with an entirely simple design, a club at one end, a single-edged blade carved out of sharpened bone. “We ready.”
>>
I almost want to take the smolders to our dome and show them our horrible monster chop shop labs just for the reaction.

I mean, they're living happy tribal lives dealing with issues like getting eaten or starving at worst, and we've got horrible sci-fi labs of existential dread and atrocity hidden in our hat.

We could flip their lids.
>>
“Oi lass, wha's yer name?” You ask with a little smile, for her benefit.

“Ah... Erm... We say when friend.” She seems pretty reserved about giving up what every Kahkori seems intent on giving out, and what Smolderans only seem to say when necessary. It kind of bothers you honestly that you have to refer to her bey “hey you!”

You look to Kurojo with an asking expression and he shrugs,” I do not know, I told you they are weird.” He says in your tongue, only to receive a little jab in the ribs from Marine.

“I told you to be nice Jojo...” Marine pouts.

Kurojo rubs at his side tenderly,”Rather dear with monster...” He says off-hand, only to be grabbed by the tusk.

“Come on, let's go!” Marine yells to the Araraki, as she drags Kurojo behind her. Some of the Araraki peek out of their homes to watch the curious display, you wave back at them and follow after, hoping that they sooner forget this little incident.

“We sorry...” She says again, gripping her weapon anxiously, as she picks up her pace, taik swaying back and forth under the leather robes....

Onward to your first hunt!

You head outside of the city's wall, noting that there's a guard positioned high up on towers. Kahkori up there, with Smolderan patrolling the wall below. Without repel tech it's no wonder that they need to keep up some kind of a guard.
Up north you see mountains looming in the distance beyond, with great trees populating the southeast, and endless wet storming marshes to the northeast dark clouds loom over that horizon.

You ask Kurojo about that area.

“Thundering Marshes.” He says, “Mukon said it arways rain and storm there. Strong, and fast monsters there.”

The four of you walk down the south road in silence for a while, you occasionally asking questions about the area, yet there still many things that Kurojo doesn't know.

“So, why y' say 'we' missy, wha's that about?” You say to the Araraki, prompting her attention.

“Ahm. We... say we. Be...cause we we.”

You blink at her. “Say agin?”

“We say we...” She thinks it over.” Because... Not one, but we.”

“How many? Two?” You ask, not getting much help from Kurojo with his still lingering bias. He's seemed a bit upset about this even after getting punished by Marine... In fact, that probably hasn't helped.

Though it does seem to be getting the Araraki to warm up. “Yes.” She begins to clap with weapon in hand, yet suddenly decides against it, resuming her nearly religious posture.

You blink again, “Huh. Wha's that like?”

“Not know. What one like?” She replies with a little curiosity, yet still avoiding eye contact.

About to say something, you then remember the Smolderan that you killed and wonder about that. “Me thinks... I'll hav' t' wonder th' same.” You give a nervous smile.

Within the Mantree Coast, you see many estuaries and a great deal of marshy land flowing into the coastline between the roots of large trees that seem to stand up upon their roots, like a naturally occurring awning.

The four of you move carefully, now wading through the much and water. “Move slow, and move around things in water.” Kurojo instructs.
You feel out things with your aura, navigating around fish and other things within. The araraki follows, keeping the blunt of her weapon forward, waving it back and forth to check for what lies within.

You all eventually make it to a soggy patch of land, and take a seat to work things out.

It's not raining right now, but the place is damp enough to make a difference, there are some bug monsters that skit across the surface of the water, long fish buried down in the mud, other flatfish the same.
A long bug whizzes past your head at a breakneck speed, to catch a small bird, a pidgey in its legs, wrestling it down into the water.

You swallow.

Off in the distance there are those bells hanging from select trees, the same kind that tried to eat you back in Kakarkiko.

You hear a splash, and something flails about as the water turns red.

The Araraki and Marine seem to turn a bit white at that one. “Th-th-that? Really?” She whispers, shaking, “What the he-”

The long bug darts out of the water, flying as fast as an arrow, but not quite as straight as one.

Well, you're gonna need to start somewhere...

I don't understand the connection between that and what the Araraki said. That was rather random.

Would the creature eat the bell things? We could use them as bait. Have Ceru use her Icy Wind to force them to move downward.

What's the area like? Marine and Ceru can act in the water well enough, but Kurojo needs proper footing and who knows how the Araraki can act. Ask her what she can do.

Ceru was thinking that she might have just gotten herself haunted because of killing that dude. She thinks she might now have a ghost with her.

The Araki are a race of mediums, apparently. They're no alone because they have ghosts with them.

See it now?

There's soft footing in some locations and you've learned the water is of varying depths from even just your wade. Some spots are deep enough to go up to your chest while others are so shallow it's not even past your ankles.

Well, unless Marine has eyes meant for deep water exploration, she and the Araraki may have trouble seeing in the dark. Crocodiles can hunt in the day, but they're also nocturnal creatures.

>>32299866
Idea. How strong is Kurojo? I was thinking, after we find some bait, we could draw the Ordile close to the tree and have Kurojo chop it down and make it fall on it.

Alternatively, how many Bellsprout are on the tree? If possible, we could attack and harvest their sweet nectar to use its scent to attract the Ordile? We could use our Icicle Gun to harpoon one from a distance so that we can get it away from the tree. That or ask Kurojo or the Araraki if they've got similar skills.

You talk it over with Kurojo, about the Ordile and what it might like. Marine says that you should try berries, you suggest luring it with fish, while Kurojo says that attracting it with a weepingbell might work as he points out the yellow things hanging high up in the trees.

A white monster flutters through the air, two scary eyes upon its wings. It gets a bit close to the weepingbell and a flurry of leaves whip out, cutting the thing to shreds before vines lash out, quickly snatching the morsels out of the air.
The bell expands to swallow its prey in a split second, acid drooling down to the water below while it squeezes shut, looking like a happy drooling maw.

Kurojo stares, Marine stares, and you stare. You all blink in silence. The Araraki seems to realize what you're all staring at. Everyone turns their own kind of pale.
The Araraki speaks up, reaching feebly, “Ah, please. Please no. We no hurt plant.”

“Smart for an Araraki.” Kurojo nods.

“I'm just agreeing,” Marine says.

“So, we get some fish?” You ask, your eyes sparkling a little bit in the dusky mangrove forest.

“Agreed.” Kurojo and Marine say in unison.

The Araraki seems sincerely confused that her plight had been heard so easily...

If we can, we should fashion some kind of noose with splashing bait in the middle.

Then, when it bites, we tighten the noose around the maw, giving us a chance to get in close and wrangle it as a team.

Possible. We might be able to fashion it out of jungle foliage. Kurojo might know how to do so, as a hunter, and we've received guerrilla and, probably unmentioned, survival training. Just bring that up next thread.

If we're not dealing with a monhun monster, we're likely dealing with either a Croconaw or Feraligatr.

You know.

Now that I think about it.

Those weepingbells have all the rope we need.
Any plant with vine whips, in fact.
>>
>>32300606
And the idea is to not be within a range where we can be hit by razor leaf/sensed by the Weepingbell. That or at a range where Marine can easily use her shells to defend against it. Again, the reason I brought up the fact that we're a sniper is because that means we've got a greater range than it.

Not that it really matters, though, since I don't want to mess with the Araraki's beliefs.

>>32300659

>>
>>32300641
So was my suggestion earlier to have Kurojo chop the tree down viable? Because it seems like you were shutting it down here.

That or we could try and have Ceru shoot one down on top of the monster.

>>32300655
We can craft a restraining device using tree branches too. Dry tree branches, anyway. Something to restrain the croc's mouth. The rest of its body would be troublesome, though.

Prof, would we be able to keep the croc alive if we chopped off its tail? Seeing as how the monster on the ship last time had its lower jaw ripped off and lived up to when we docked at port?
>>

>>
>>32300684
Again, I'm talking about doing it from a DISTANCE. We're a sniper, alright? I'm not saying we get Marine to go up close to it. I was saying she stayed close to US while we sniped so that, if it actually possessed the senses needed to find where we are, she could defend against the razor leaves. And we'd be doing this from a DISTANCE where the razor leaves would not have as much effectiveness as our Icicle Gun.
>>
So.

We need to discuss something you guys.

Harpoons.

Why are we not sticking spear-like objects in our guns, tying ropes to them, and shooting them at our foes?
>>
>>32300726
We also have 3 guns, so we can take out at least 3 of the immobile targets at once after each Lock-On.
>>
>>32300737
It would be ungainly. We cannot stick it down the whole barrel, so when it's shot out, it would quickly lose any sort of accuracy.
>>
>>32300737
>Sticking pointy, sharp and BARBED things into our flesh.
Ummm fucking what?
>>
>>32300754
Anon, you don't stick the tip of the harpoon into the barrel of the harpoon gun.
>>
>>32300737
They wouldn't be very large harpoons. We can fit small metal ball bearings in there, though, but I think they still have to be propelled by water.
>>
>>32300754
We already have fanfiction about pointy barbed things going into our flesh.
>>
>>32300692
>Prof, would we be able to keep the croc alive if we chopped off its tail?
Are... Are you using monhun logic?
Yeah, if you chop off the tail you'd get to keep that.

>>32300720
That's just creeepy.
>>
>>32300765
Depending on what kinds of explosives the Dome has, we could stick a small bomb inside, freeze it within an icicle and shoot it out, then trigger its detonator. Lots of potential.

We could also put poison in our water sacs, but that would rather depend on whether the poison can affect us from inside them and if our omniguns are not connected to our circulatory system. Something to clarify with Prof. If it turns out to be viable, we could shoot out solid icicles that poison an enemy as soon as they penetrate the skin.

Why would you need to remove the ammo limit?

It'd make sense just to have water moves like Aqua Jet or Water Gun rely on the ammo, Icicle Gun on stamina, then stuff like rock shot on a combination of the two.

>>32300907
We'll definitely have Kurojo concentrate on slicing the tail off; we don't want that thrashing around.

>>32300920

Maybe it would involve getting a monster that has the egg move and then implanting it in us.

Hey Ygg, has the Dome experimented with breeding monsters? For implants or otherwise?
>>
>>32301041
Gunk shot is one of those tutor moves that can only be learned through tutor- for Octillery anyway.

I said under normal circumstances I mean that it's not likely that Ceru would get training to shoot poison like that.

>>32301069

>>
>>32301069
Well anon the reason our species cant learn such a move by level up is one we cant produce the poison and two, we aren't immune to the poison so it would kill us as well. We aren't a fuchsia after all.

Actually how the hell do we not kill ourselves with toxic?
>>
>>32301108
I'm still kind of trying to figure out what to do with TMs. I've got ideas for them but none make me inherently happy.
>>
I think we ought to try to track down if they can make high proof alcohol in this monster town.
If we get some real high proof stuff, we can shoot sticky, sub-arctic temperatures at things.

The real question is:

>>32301107
If we put alcohol in a water bladder, do we get drunk?
>>
>>32301120
Honestly leave them out entirely IMHO. TMs are only really in pokemon to allow the player to spread moves around on their pokemon for coverage reasons.
>>
>>32301120
Maybe some moves, like Toxic, are just being trained to use special tools, such as a dart coated in lethal poison? Others could be actually learning things from a tutor(ial)?
>>
>>32301107
>Might be worth a shot, though I won't say it won't hurt. That shit goes in your body dude.... Your body.
Oh no, I'm not saying we'd do this outside. Just at the Dome, whenever we get back. This is also the reason I was asking whether or not our omnigun bladders are connected to our circulatory system or if they're isolated away.

And I'm not talking of using the same kind of poison that Janine's skin secretes. I'm talking venom, which requires itself to be injected into the body to have effect. It'd be safer to keep in our omniguns if they're isolated from our circulatory system.
>>
>>32301120
Both of these questions
