You wake up from a dreamless sleep. The dark red sky of your Sanctuary tells you it’s evening. You must have slept the whole day.

You are the heir of Aaflyn bloodline, a recently awakened mage with affinity of flesh. You found this out almost a week ago when you got your grandfather’s inheritance, a box full of magical items out of which the grimoire of your ancestors is currently by you side, refusing to go out of your arm’s reach.

On the run from another mage you only know as ‘Doctor’ that had kept your old friend Cecil under mind control, you left the city and established a Sanctuary in the surrounding woods. The process drained you completely and you fell unconscious as soon as the flow of mana into your body stopped.

As soon as you get up, Cecil hands you a cup of fresh black coffee. She looks a bit shaken.

>What are your plans for the night?

[X] University

If you hurry, you should be able to catch some physics or engineering major before everyone has left the campus.

With that in mind you exit your own little world, red and pink changing to green and blue again, with the exception of a little hole among the tree branches where you exited the barrier.

The trip to the university takes you about half an hour and as you arrive most students have already left or gone to their extracurricular activities. After wondering around for a while you spot a familiar face: one Elisa who majors in physics. You don’t know her that well; you just shared homeroom in high school and a chemistry course last year but from the look of things you don’t really have any other options.
Well, except for Dan, but Dan is a dick and deals drugs.

>What do you do?

[] Approach Elisa (what do you say?)

Well, Elisa it is, we'll ask her how she's doing lately and then see if she's up for any freelance electrician work, assuming she has the experience.
Priorities for our little womb home are power, light, hot/cold running water, and a fridge system for food, unless I miss my guess.

Dan or Elisa, either one we're probably going to have to familiar bind them to make sure they keep quiet about what they've seen. At this point we can't be too careful about who knows what, and we're protecting Cecil and our family with the secrecy as well.

Dan also might be an option later if we figure out how to magically/biologically make drugs.

[X] Acquaintance.

You walk up to the girl and greet her. “Hey, long time no seen. How are you?”

“Hi! I’m fine. You’re… that guy from high school, what was it… Anyway, hi. Do you need something or did you just suddenly decide to talk to me?”

You would describe her as the complete opposite of Cecil; she’s rather tall, around your length, her hair is short and blonde, her eyes blue and her assets are… commendable. She also has caffeine addiction and looking at the way she twitches she’s either drunk a bucket of it or somebody hit her with a stun gun.

“Actually, I do. You see, I need some electricity to my little… home in the woods and I was wondering if you could help me with that.”

“Electricity? Have you considered just getting a gas generator? Also, why do you live in the woods? Do you know what’s in there? Well you should, you’re bio major and I’m not. Hah!” She rapid fires and laughs at her own joke. You now assume she may have taken something else than coffee. “I may be able to help you out but it’s gonna cost you.”

>Now what?

[] Offer her something. (What)
[] Try to get her somewhere where you can bind her or stick a mind control spell on her. (How?)

"What'll it cost? Going rates for electricians can be murder, but this isn't union sooo..."

We can set up a binding right outside the sanctuary for her, just need something of hers, perhaps she has a business card, or we can accidentally snag some hair, tough its risky.
All of our mind influencing spells take time, so we'll need that, but if we know when/where she's going to be, we can manage something.

Though if building the mana/spell for suggestion is covert enough, let's offer her some coffee from a nearby place and get to work.

[X] Show don’t tell.

“I should be able to do something for you in exchange. How about we go there now and I’ll show you what I need done?” You ask, realizing just how much you sound like a serial killer luring his victim into the woods alone.

“Works for me. Don’t expect me to drive tonight though.” She answers as you mentally thank her ignorance.

You ride out of town with the girl sitting behind you. You make sure to leave the town heading to east, take some left turns and finally turn to north on a small road once you’re pretty sure she no longer has any idea of where you are. You hide the moped in the bushes and lead Elisa towards the entrance of your Sanctuary. As she steps towards the door you…

We need her on our side, and getting her more amiable to us is paramount in that.

Though...

If we can do it all before she wakes up and would remember anything, then
>[X] …Knock her out with a bolt and drag her into a binding circle.
Would be best, bind her up as a servant to start so that she's good and well disposed to us, explain how we're trying to stay safe and 'trusting' her, let her feel honored, then get to work with the rest of it. Explain her unconsciousness as a side effect of seeing the flesh magic for the first time.
All depends on how much of a manipulator we want to be, and honestly, for me, how Cecil will react, because she's our one friend right now and the main reason we're doing all this.

[X] Welcome to my Sanctuary.

While the temptation is strong, you decide against using magic on her. You would rather not cross that line.

“You see,” You begin as she notices the pink wall of flesh that serves as your entrance. “I have this… gift” The wall opens, fleshy tentacles moving to the side. Elisa is taken back by this while you lead her through the hole, revealing you Sanctuary in its full glory. “I’m sure there’s something I can do for you in exchange for some electric work.”

The girl stares at the view, her eyes bulging in shock. She pulls out a smoke from her pocket and lights it before turning to you. “…Yeah, sure. I can set something up, just promise you won’t kill me and make a carpet out of my skin.” She looks around with a disbelief, fear and disgust.

You lead her deeper, until you arrive to the center where Cecil is sitting next to a fire. She offers the two of you cups of coffee, which Elisa hesitatingly accepts.

“If you get a gas generator, I could set up some lines here. I could also try to make something more permanent with solar panels or by using the river there, though that may cost a lot more in the short run but they wouldn’t need to be refilled every few hours.” She says after taking a look around.

>What do you want to do?

[] (Write-in)

>>33538883
Something with the river or solar panels, we can work out payment details.

Get her to swear to secrecy at least? Let her know there are others that are not so nice as we are, and they don't mind killing and worse.
Does the book have a binding oath type spell we could do? She promises not to betray us, we promise not to use undue magic on her without her permission.

Also, where in the world does Cecil continually get coffee from?

[X] Solar panels.

You ask about the possibility of setting up some solar panels.

“Well, they don’t produce that much energy and are generally considered to be a bit unreliable. I could arrange you a deal from a friend of mine to get the batteries, panels and the rest of the necessities for a thousand, with around fifty bucks for the lines.” She explains while keeping her eyes on the coffee. You can’t really afford that now, though it’s not like you don’t have any way of getting money.

“I need you to promise to not tell anyone about this place.” You request.

“Uhh… sure? It’s not like anyone would believe me and I don’t really want to end up a coat.”

“Good, now show me your hand.”

She hesitates but still does as you ask. You take a good, tight grip of her wrist and pull out the knife. She panics, trying to pry her hand away but you manage to hold her still for long enough to cut her finger. A single drop of blood falls into a vial you had prepared for this.

“Now, if you tell anyone, this blood will let me know.” You lie, but the girl surrounded by trees of meat isn’t about to question what you can or cannot do.

“There are those much like me who are willing to do a lot more than I am, those who would come after you for merely having been here.” You don’t technically know if they went after her but it’s better for her to think so.

“O-okay. Look, just throw me back to the city and call me when you got money and time and I’ll set things up, okay?”

>What now?
>>
>>33539796
Ask how much would a generator cost. We don't need that much electricity, I don't see the point of dumping a thousand into solar panels.

>>
>>33540108

[X] Dropping the guest off.

You lead her back to the exit and take her back into the city, making sure to take the same way you took back when you came here.

You stop at the outskirts where she can take a bus back home.

“Phew… Didn’t expect to get back in one piece. Well, see you later then!” She says giving you her number and trying to sound cheerful but it ends up coming across as awfully forced.

Now then, you’ve got some more free time.

[X] Money troubles.

For a moment you consider robbing a rich guy for some money, though it’s way too late to find anyone randomly walking the streets.

As you ride back to the sanctuary the sun goes down and the stars shine in the sky. The barrier of your sanctuary dyes everything to a darker shade of red and Cecil seems to be getting ready to sleep.

You walk up to her. “Any ideas on how to make money?”

“Why?” She mumbles. “It’s fine. We’ll get by.”

“Why? I mean, nothing’s free and I’m broke and you…” An idea strikes you. She had the money to rent an apartment and from the look of things live somewhat cheap lifestyle without job.

You put asking about that in the back of your mind for now and read up on Alchemy a bit. The basic principle of it seems to be making two things into a one thing that has both of the ingredient’s properties. There are plenty of notes about what results in mixing what but one strikes your eye more than others:

>Phoenix meat: Mineral extracted from gemstones in high altitudes by heating it to extreme temperatures. The results of this process are coal and the meat. It’s valuable due to having regenerative properties when mixed with mana-enhancing liquids.

You suppose you could use the red powder left to you to create gems, though those ‘regenerative properties’ do interest you…

[X] Talking.

You drop Elisa a text asking about using a crank or something cheaper for power and turn to Cecil, who is pouring coffee into two cups from the coffee pan.

“How are you holding up?” You ask her as you accept the cup.
She thinks for a moment before speaking. “Better.”

“I’m sorry, a lot has happened to you lately and I must have freaked you out when I was casting.”

She nods, making an “Umh” sound you recognize as ‘yes’. ”But it’s fine.”

“Okay, just know that you can talk to me if need rises.”

She gives you a nod before taking a sip from her coffee. You see a slight frown on her face.

“Out of milk?” you ask. You didn’t really buy perishables, what with the lack of anywhere cold to put them in. She nods again. You have plenty of dry food but any perishable supplies seem to be running low.

“Alright. There are some things I have been meaning to ask you.” You offer her the staff. “First: If you would like, I could show you how to use this to use magic with this. I’m pretty new to this myself but I’m pretty sure it’s not something beyond me.” She looks at the staff for a moment before taking it. You smile.

Full disclosure here.
That it's a personal soul bonding, and we would be making it out of trust and care.
That there are things we could, but wont do to her because they would be just as bad, or worse, than what was already being done.
That it could be as simple as letting us know where she is.
That it could be an emotional connection.
That it could let us act through her, talk to her over any distance, feel each other.
That it could let her be technically immortal, if her mind is strong enough.

No hiding things for this, and bring Edgar over as an example piece, while stressing that all it did was make him friendly, not subservient.
>>
>>33542552
>Immortal
Are we sure about that? The hive mind bit, it connects minds, so the end result is a mix of it all isn't it? Might work with animals sure, but unless we can grow mindless bodies for her, it would be eventually bad, and the other option is body jacking other people.
Aside from harvesting death row or something similar, I don't think we're comfy with that level of casual villainy.

[X] Do you want to become a magical girl?

“There are many ways to go about it, varying from a mere locator to using you as a starting point to build a hive mind. The ones I would prefer are one which allows me to talk to you when I’m not there, see what you see, hear what you hear and feel what you feel, the one that would let me talk to you, act through you, use magic through you and lead you to safety or the one that makes you a part of me.” You list your first choices.

“There are, of course, other bonds if none of these feel fitting. It is ultimately your choice.” Of course, you could force her into any of them and she couldn’t do anything but she doesn’t need to know that.

You motion to the crow that has been sitting on a tree branch, pecking its leaves. “I have one which allows me to understand him with Edgar here.”

She thinks hard for a moment before speaking up. “I want to think.”

She empties the cup and sets it down before crawling under the tarp that works as your makeshift tent, leaving you alone. Well, at least she’s considering it.

[X] More crows

“What do you think?” You ask the crow.

“Kaw kaw kaa-w.” or ‘you know how the ladies are, give her a little time and she’ll come begging for you, good chum’ is his answer.

“We’re getting some more crows to scout out the facility. Go get as many as you can while I do my preparations.” With that, the bird flies out of the barrier as you grab the bucket and knife. Why does it have to be blood?

After plenty of bleeding and drawing you manage to make seven circles in ten hours. You feel like you’ve become quite familiar with this particular spell and can probably draw it faster and with less assistance from mana in the future.

[Level up! Binding: preparation time decreased.]

Your familiar leads the birds into the circles with some help from the flesh you conjured while drawing and grabs one feathers from their backs before setting them down. As you pour mana into the circles they come to life, restraining the birds. “Kaw, kaw.” or ‘I am sorry.’ says your familiar while the crows struggle in vain as you feel slight tugs in your being as your mana latches onto them. Ones the whole process is over, you have a small murder of crows sitting in surrounding trees, waiting for you to do something.

[You now have seven bound nameless crows.]

[X] Servants seem to have the most support for now.

With some help from Edgar, you select the most fitting birds for each role you have in mind. You bind the biggest one as a host, the smallest and quickest one as a harbringer and the rest as servants.

[X] Scouting.

You send your birds out while you grab the grimoire that flies open on its own. As your familiars make their way across the skies you check one last thing. It seems that a mage’s location can be traced through familiar bond, though it requires the familiar alive. You can tell from your own experience that the amount of mana in most familiars is neglectable enough to avoid getting sensed, though a possessed host would feel like a mage. There’s also a mention of many mages preferring to make their familiars suicide if they ever inexplicitly lose consciousness or are otherwise out of reach due to the fear of being traced. With that out of the way, you go to your moped and ride it towards a computer store.

Meanwhile, your familiars fly through the city to north. The view you get from two birds’ eyes is quite magnificent. They arrive to an abandoned hospital, surrounded by an electric fence and with a man operating the gate. Your crows sit on an electric line across the road and wait.

Just as you arrive to the store, your familiars spot something: a car is leaving the facility.

>You order them to…

[] Follow the car.

[X] Follow that car!

One of your harbringers takes flight to follow the car while the rest stay at the hospital.

You enter the store to find the counter occupied by other customers.

The car stops in front of a convenience store and a familiar woman steps out; the one you saw at Cecil’s apartment. There doesn’t seem to be any other activity at the hospital at the moment.

As she makes her way through the parking lot, a thought crosses your mind: these are the people who are responsible for Cecil’s current state. Anger builds up within you.

The woman is carrying a purse and you think you may see a rod in there.

A clerk approaches you. “Hello, sir. What do you need?”

>You…

[] Order an attack; this is war.

Let's prep, and get one that we can cast spells through there, she's got magical backup at the very least in her purse. Best case scenario, we get a binding prepared where she'll walk into it and take her for all she's worth.

Then we can wring every bit of info out of her and let Cecil decide her fate.

Your second harbringer tells some of the other birds to move to the convenience store. Two of the servants and the host take flight as the other two servants and a harbringer remain at the hospital.

“I need a new a new laptop charger. And can you tell me what you have in terms of mobile wifi units and services.”

The woman enters the convenience store and the hospital is quiet.

“Certainly. Can you tell me the model of your laptop?”

“Yes, it’s…” You don’t have a good line of sight into the shop.

“Alright, I think we have what you need. Give me a moment.” The clerk goes to the back room.

The birds arrive at the store.

We need something of hers to bind her, and we need to get that rod away from her as well. If we can follow her to her home.. I sense a good home invasion, and we need to go by the pound or a pet store, or a less reputable place, and get a big, mean dog.

You give your familiars the order to wait and go for the purse once she comes out.

“Is this correct?” The clerk comes back out again.

“Yes, that’s exactly what I’m looking for.” You fail to notice it immediately and by the time you notice her, the woman is almost at the car already. The birds charge her but she notices them before they reach her. A good swing from the purse knocks one of the servants down, making you wince in pain.

“Sir, are you alright?” The woman is rushing to the car.

One of your crows charges the woman, grabbing the purse as she stumbles into her car panicking.

As your familiars follow her, she loses the control of the car and hits a streetlight. You can’t help but to smile as your harbringer hands on the hood of her car and the woman twitches, still alive. A crowd is beginning to gather so you pull your familiars back.

Soon an ambulance shows up, taking her to a hospital where you station one of your familiars and you end up getting a cheap mobile wifi. Once you are out of town, one of your servants drops you the bag. Not only do you find her wand and runes but also her wallet with $200 and an ID and a used hairbrush.
