General Notes.

>Who are you?
You are Kouga, one of the brave soldiers that fight for the love and peace of the world, a Saint. You were raised in the Sanctuary by your Master Integra and under the tutelage of the Witch of Darkness Medea. The Sanctuary considers you a prized soldier because you were born under the blessing of a Dark God, who hopes to use you as his dark messiah to destroy the world of light.

But you won’t have any of that… thus your main mission right now, besides being a Saint, is to find a way to make the darkness you wield yours and find a way to stop the Dark God from possessing you again.

>What are you doing right now?
After returning to the Sanctuary, you had an urgent meeting with Mars. Your new mission is set, the order is to find and capture Saori Kido. Plus now you promised to help a cute girl reunite with her sister… the same sister you are tracking to get her judged by the Sanctuary… oops.

>How do your powers work?
Generally you have two elemental powers, the first are your electrical powers, which sadly over the years you have neglected. They serve as your primary ranged damage source and they have a low chance of stunning the enemy.

Then you have your Darkness Type Moves, which are used through Evil Right, generally you obtain some dice bonuses and DC bonuses depending on the type of attack used and when Evil Right is equipped you can use Curses and Witchcraft without having to waste a turn to prepare them.

In general Kouga build resulted in you having weaker physical capabilities, and in turn you should use things like Elemental advantages and Curses to even the field.

>What is the elemental wheel?
Certain Elements beat others, the general idea is that if you use a super effective move on an enemy, you deal extra damage and will have an easier time rolling, the end. Some elements beat the weaker, generally it goes,

Wind > Elec > Earth > Water > Fire (> Wind.)
With Darkness > Light (>Darkness)

>Then what is an attack type clash?
Generally speaking attacks can be classified in three types, the first are Strikes, which are precise speedy attacks, and the second are the Guards attacks, which are iron tight defensive maneuvers, with Crashes being the third type which are powerful moves that exist to overwhelm the opponent.

These three attack types have a triangle relationship, in which Crash>Guard>Strike (>Crash). When you use an attack that beats the attack of your opponent, you gain an advantage, which translates in some extra DC bonuses.

>What is the DS thing in the Stat Sheet?
It’s how much influence the source of Evil Right has over you, the higher it is… well you guys know how these things generally go, right?

>Why didn’t you include X option in the choices?
Most of the time I just write what comes first to mind. If you want to do something else, have a different idea or want to use one of the skills not listed, then use the [Other] Option. It’s there for a reason.

>Have there been any changes to skills?
No, just working on the changes from last time.

You are Kouga, the Saint of Black Pegasus, and as the rays of the sun start illuminating your room, you start waking up. Unlike most Saints and your Master, you didn’t exactly live inside the Sanctuary, no you lived outside it, in the small city that rest at the hills of it.

Why? It was because as a witch, you just preferred to live in your atelier, it just was more practical.

Or at least you liked to tell yourself that, the sad fact is that the Sanctuary still to this day greatly distrusts witches and mages, and thus you have learned over the years to just keep your magic items and grimoires away from the general public.

Plus having an air conditioner made life easier, so yay for modern living conditions! The icing on the cake is that the one who is paying for all of this is Medea, so yay for being a witch!

So even though the sun is already rising, you just want to keep sleeping in your carefully refrigerated room, curled inside your thick blankets.

After the whole mess with the alchemists, you just want to take a day off and rest, but then you hear a voice, a familiar and lovely voice

“Kouga, Kouga, please wake up, you promised to help me find my sister! So wake up!.” Sure the voice is cute, but whoever this is won’t get any points with you if they keep shaking you.

You simply want to keep sleeping.

Wise UP: The world Athena loves…

Oh this one is a hard one, while I generally dislike most deities that side with the Law ideologies, I tend to find Athena an exception. I don’t know if it is her culture, the love and justice she preaches or maybe the fact that her second is willing to actually correct her, but Athena is… she is a great goddess when compared to our ultimate enemy.

In a way I would classify her as a Lawful Goddess with Neutral leanings (especially when compared to those two who rule the axis of my pantheon).

That’s probably why, even if the ideals she represents are not my cup of tea, why at least I can tolerate the world she represents and protects.

Your world, Kouga, is a world of Law and Light, one with a rigid structure and system, but it’s a fair one. Her laws are not tyrannical, there is a certain degree of fair-mindedness that even I a demon can respect. She tolerates other deities, and accepts their help when the world is in danger, and generally just doesn’t oppress humans, tries to set up a kingdom of her chosen ones, or tries to nuke Tokyo.

I think her not nuking Tokyo really helps her PR.

Now, I won’t say she is perfect, that fairness and kindness she uses to handle things with other Gods often backfires on her, leading to an endless cycle of Holy Wars. Her kindness allows all sort of evil gods to come back and back again to fight and just like with Mars, the world that Athena represents is built on blood, but instead of the blood of the innocent, it’s build on the blood of those foolish enough to love her and fight for her.

Kouga, her laws while softer than the commandments of the heavens, are still strict and restrictive. I know many good men with great potential that never got realized because of it, and know of others those hearts grew wicked and evil because they were screwed by those Laws (the first example that comes to mind is Medusa, there is a reason female Saints use masks).

>What would Medea do?

A thing that bothers me, is that Athena prefers for the secrets of the Cosmos and its power to remain in the hands of the mortals that fight with her (or with other Gods), even though the revelation that Saints exists was made public several years ago, nothing really came from it. In the end, Athena hid the truth about the cosmos from the general public, and limited the true potential humanity might truly achieve.

Still back in then, [he] sided with her, and overthrew both the Chaos and the Law that were building up to challenge Athena, and in turn preserved this world. I guess that’s why I hate this world, even though [he] fought bravely for it, nothing really changed. The world just returned to being the same as before the ordeal… the only thing that changes was that [he] was missing from it.

Gods and Demons are still fighting, and will eventually destroy the world he loved, and I don’t know what to think of that. To this day I still don’t understand why [he] did what he did. Why did he give up everything to protect the world Athena loves?

A part of me wants to believe in this world that [he] fought for but in the end, I just can’t accept it, I can’t accept this world of Law. I can’t accept a world that needed [him] to die to keep working.

I guess, I can’t believe in Athena, even if I like her. I just know that in the end she is no different than the others gods.

In the end, while not as bad as others, the world Athena created is a carefully made glass house, you might not see the walls, but there are there, hidden by the gods and restricting your freedom.

Kouga, no world made by a god will allow humans to truly be free, please remember that.

Instead of paying any attention to whoever is daring to bother you, you yawn, making a sound so potent and scary that it surely sounds like the roar of a wild beast!

“YES A BEAR!” You twist and pose, while making a swipe like motion with your right claw, “I am a member of the most proud and noble race, the BEARS! But I was cured by an evil witch, and now I, a glorious and superior BEAR, have been trapped in this human flesh!”

You see the eyes of your enemy, and she is believing this. Wow, you never expected her to be this gullible. “But by the power of the winter, I have finally awakened from this prison and taken over, and thus now I shall proceed to do BEAR THING!” Her eyes are glued to your form, captivated by the weird spectacle you are giving her.

“And now, I SHALL HIBERNATE!” You continue to do silly BEAR poses until you curl back into a ball, wrapped around your thick fur! Yeah, this is the true BEAR LIFE!

“No, no, Kouga, nooooo, you promised!” Your cute intruder tries to shake you from your BEAR MAN sleep, but it is useless, you shall not budge! “Noo, Kouga, I shall find whoever did this and make her pay!”

Stay strong you glorious bear man, do not fall for her tears, you have to hibernate! But then, you feel your stomach grumble… it looks like your hibernation shall be cut short, you have to find honey and eat whatever bears eat!

“Noooo, Kouga! Come back!” The nice girl simply stops fighting, and instead hugs you, “You stupid BEAR, leave Kouga!” Her red eyes look like they are about to cry, and you feel you should stop this.

Still she looks BEARY cute like this, tears can be cute right? And now you feel that Medea is a bad influence on you.

Sorry BEAR SOUL, but now I don’t need you. “NOOOOO, stop hugging me cute girl… this should not be, cute girls are my only weakness!” You quickly jump back, standing on your bed again, as you do more poses!

“You stupid bear, you feel into my trap, using this cute girl I managed to recover my body!” You say that using your normal voice, and then switch into your =ROAR, I’M A BEAR= voice, “NOOO, You can’t beat me!” As you land on the bead again, you make agonized cries, “NOOOO, GLORY to the PRINCIPALITY of THE BEARS!”

With that the sad BEAR SOUL fades from your body… leaving you ready to face a certainly cute girl who is totally not-crying about this.

After eating a beary delicious BEAR Breakfast of pancakes with honey along with orange juice, you and your cute friend are ready to tackle the day, so what should you do?

You feel that if you leave her alone, she will get angrier with you... but at least your breakfast got her smiling again, and bought your way back into her good graces, so it won't be that bad.

It was a red scarf, one that your Master gave you… a symbol of her love. Now I would become a symbol of your friendship, you are sure that Master Integra would understand.

Returning to your friend, you present your old scarf to her, “This is one of my greatest treasures… my master and I made it together, so I hope you don’t mind if I gave it to you.”

Your friend nods, and you instantly wrap the slightly faded red wool scarf around her neck, until it fits her. It looks too big for your thin friend, but you feel that in a few years she will be able to wear it perfectly.“See, I think it looks good on you, so take care for me… it’s a charm of friendship too.” You trace your hand over the special threads that run through the red wool, and feel their power burn dimly in response to yours.

The nice girl simply gives you a bright smile as she hugs you… and in that moment you feel that a smile that bright and happy shouldn’t belong to a human.
It is just too lovely.

Do you like the city, Doctor?” Well this place is more like the Sanctuary Hill City, but that was merely a technicism, you are sure she got what you mean.

“In a way yes, the weather is a bit different than the dessert I am used to, but it is not unbearable, and anyway, soon I will modify the building to regulate the conditions inside, so that is merely a small problem. To be honest, my biggest worry is that I am actually working in the Sanctuary now… when I started my research into the Black Cloths, I never expected that would ever happen.”

“Do you mean that you hate the Sanctuary?”

“No, it’s just that as an alchemist I never predicted to find myself working with them… I have to admit that meeting you, Kouga, has been a shockingly novel experience.” The Doctor stares at some of the papers in her hand, before she continues, “Even if I hated the Sanctuary, Kouga, I am prepared to make sacrifices for my research… and if receiving your help means I have to relocate to this location, then I am willing to do so."

“To me, you are worth a small sacrifice like that, Kouga. I can learn to deal with Saints, but I doubt I will find someone else that is like you.” Oh, you feel like blushing, you know that she does not mean it like that, but having someone as cute as Mariebelle Illumina say something like that to you is really flattering.

Lately, you are feeling like a little schoolgirl and maybe… you should stop. “Then Doctor, can you check my arms, in the last battle, like I told you, I managed to force them to evolve, and I worry about what they mean.”

“Understood, then please, can you activate your two arms, I wish to appreciate the changes you experience with my own eyes.” You simply equip your right arm with the power of darkness, and then try to gather light in your left arm to form Shinning Left.

You skin lightens a bit, and a soft glow appears, but that is all that happens. You don’t feel the power that you felt last time, so it looks like your left arm blessed by her light failed to truly form.

The Doctor quickly inspect your two arms, before passing a small metallic hexagon of white steel over the two, “Kouga, what do you know of alchemy, have you heard of the concept of the Philosopher Stones?”

“You mean the method in which someone becomes like a God? Is it related to my arms, and how they resemble alchemy in the way they can change the soul of a human into something else?” You feel you are mixing some of the concepts from the lessons a certain idiot has been giving you, but you feel that you know the general gist of what she is referring to.

“I see, I never expected you to be so knowledgeable about alchemy, Kogua, may I ask where did you learn such concepts?” The Doctor is actually very curious about how you know that, so you feel like answering a bit honestly.

“A friend told me, he is a bit of a fan of alchemy and the occult.” Thank you, you silver devil… I promise to pay you back.

The Doctor returned to you the silver watch, alongside the newly repaired Pegasus cloth, “As far as I can tell, the only strange thing about this watch is it’s material, it is quite resistant, almost to the level of a cloth, and I quite can’t recognize it, but sadly I can’t quite identify it but it is some steel alloy.

Also I have finished repairing your cloth, I have strengthened the seals on it to take into account you using your Shinning Left, and at the same time I have added a new feature, a timed release under the code name of [Relief Burst]. If you use it, it will release all the seals both on the cloth and on you, and allow whoever gives you your dark power to have more of an influence on you for a controlled period of time.”

This is a lot to take in, this [Relief Burst] has a great chance of backfiring and just handling your body to the Dark God, but you can see why the Doctor might prefer for you to have this options.

If she wants to send you on a mission for a witch, then Medea probably can only count on you to do this, and probably will have a nice incentive to get you to bite the bait… and it is bait, Medea always tends to give you horrible jobs like this, but generally the rewards are worth it.

Last time she taught you the Electricity weakness curse after a mission like this one.

Medea, your witch of a teacher just stares at you and sighs, “Kouga, you know that one of the best ways to do this is to face others in combat, nothing helps a Saint or a Mage develop more than facing a life or death situation. Only under that pressure will your true skill as a mage or a Saint will shine. If you can’t get that, then try sparring with someone; that might be good for your development too.

Besides that you probably should consider doing some research about people you will face (if you can), if you are prepared to fight an enemy, then you will can win without having to fight even them.”

Your teacher pauses for a moment, before making a correction, “Now, don’t take this as an order to go and challenge a Gold Saint like Harbinger, while it’s true you will probably learn a good lesson from it, I don’t have the time to waste while I wait for you to waste a month healing after that brute breaks every bone in your body. Believe me, time is sometimes more important than whatever benefit you may receive from that.”

You could understand that at least, right now the Sanctuary needs every Saint it can spare, so they can’t have you sitting down doing nothing. To Medea, while you getting strong was useful, you doing stuff was more useful.

“So then, I want a good body for a familiar, something like the best wolf specimen you can get me, and if you can, can you give me some tips to not fuck up summoning familiars?”

“First on the tip, I would recommend you try doing the spell on your atelier Kouga, you generally don’t do these type of spells without some specific preparations and some good regents… and Kouga, next time please read the book again before casting a spell from memory on the battlefield. And you ask me why I don’t allow you to mix potions. We both know you are too scatterbrained to do that effectively.”

Gee that was a bad insult, but you know from experience that talking won’t help, so you stay silent. “Kouga, about the wolf… I believe that you want to make a familiar… considering the cost to maintain such a large beast… I believe that it would equal keeping 3 small familiars, but it’s doable, I have someone in mind that can get you the specimen, but it will take over three weeks for it to arrive, properly.”

“That’s too long… can’t you speed it up?” You don’t have time to waste like that, just like Medea said, time is precious.

“Mmm,” Your teacher brings a finger to her lips as she fakes thinking, such a liar, she probably had this planned since the beginning, “maybe if you did a favor for me too, how about you handle my request first, before you handle your other matters. To me this is quite the important task, so I would certainly be happy to help you with something you feel is equally important.”

At this point you are used to Medea doing things like this to you, but it doesn’t make accepting them any easier.

Smart move from the French, grimoires are books that contain magic, many have nasty spells to protect their secrets, while others are so old, those books obtained souls and go around cursing people into learning their secrets… which ends up horribly.

So the French probably did the best thing they could do and will just give it to the Sanctuary, that way they get rid of a potentially dangerous artifact and get some points with the Saints. Smart guys.

Your teacher continues as you wait for the hammer to drop, this is sounding too easy so far, so you know there is a catch somewhere, “Then Kouga, your mission is simple, you are to collect the book from the Museum, and escort it here, where you and I shall seal it so it can’t harm others.

While you escort the grimoire, you are to protect it from those who seek to steal it from you, and from those who would dare to destroy it. Kouga, as a witch your duty is to protect that book with your life, be it from agents of the church, from chevaliers, from some magic cabals or from alchemists.

I honestly think that it’s not a bad idea, I wish that back in my day they would have given us some time to think things through… I feel that it we had been smarter and slowed down to think more, we all wouldn’t have ended like we did, and maybe [he] would still be living.

Kouga, you have a year, a year to see this world and judge it, a year to meet people and understand them, you have only a year left to live before a new ordeal comes to the human world. This is not only a time for you to self-reflect, but also a time for you prepare, for you to grow strong enough to face the ordeal that awaits you.

Make new friends, understand the different viewpoints in the world, try to see and understand what you can… and in the end, when you have to make a choice, make the best choice you feel you can make.

To be honest, this quest is almost half a SMT Quest, But one of the main ideas I had when preparing this quest was to use the SMT themes to play with Saint Seiya and its setting.
