[Character Sheet] http://pastebin.com/HB7jgzrx

Recently, you broke out of Huxley's lab. Duva and Darida are now living with you. You're about to start the third and final segment of the Asad Babil Cup. Your two victories have locked you into the top ten percent, but winning the Cup properly requires one more push forward.

[Level up! You are now Lv. 2. You have new authorized information: Unless otherwise stated, each ability leads to one (1) (I) other ability in a linear fashion.]

[Please select an ability:
[1]Eagle Eye - You've got a sharpshooter's sight. Works across the plug. Passive. +2 on all rolls to spot something ordinary people wouldn't even notice, be it due to excessive distance or a lack of conspicuity. +1 universal bonus to accuracy.
[2]Blood and Iron Chef - You know how to calm your tits and keep your head above the mayhem. Especially with a grenade in your hands. You can cook grenades, set their timers (!) and plant explosives under extreme conditions, with no risk of failure due to panic or interruption. Combat only. Unique. Prerequisite for branching path.
[3]Infectious Confidence - A mixture of charm and bald-faced lies, your words inspire trust in others. Claims and promises you make are guaranteed to have pull with any listeners. If previously, a roll would be required to convince a person to believe you, you will now succeed automatically. If there was previously no chance to bluffing a person, they will now fall for your words for a set amount of time, ranging from seconds to weeks. Social only. Passive. Prerequisite for branching path.]

You settle into the bed as soon as you are able, overcome with a longing for the ache of battle. The short burst of dynamism during yesterday's escape tore a few muscle fibers and your arms, your torso both send faint burning sensations to your brain. It just makes you want to move more. And when you want to move, you want to break. You want to maim and rip and tear.

You're in the mood for a crush groove.

It's an unusual objective that greets you through the neon-green wireframe.

INVESTIGATE SURROUNDINGS
MAKE WAY TO ENEMY ENCAMPMENT
SURROUND AND DESTROY ALL MAJOR GROUPS OF ENEMY ARTILLERY

This is the first time you've seen anything of the sort. You're not sure how this is going to be ranked. Are the others going to be present? Is this a one-squad scenario that everyone will be playing through?

Sounds like a real hassle to load that many instances of the same fucking environment. You suppose things like this are inevitable. Ultimately, IRO tourneys are supposed to help gather data for the Imperial Armed Forces to use Remotely Operated Pieces in the field. Large-scale, open confrontations are far from the only kind of struggle.

Makes sense.

You need to pick out a loadout.

Oh thats pretty much a certainty after we found that camera on during that one match
>>
I do hope we kill Huxley eventually. Breaking the Hippocratic oath really pisses me off. Vermin of the worst kind.
>>
>>33860636
Your mind empties as you sink into total blackness. Somehow, it isn't like the regular inky depths that wash over your mind before a match starts. You submerge, but it feels deeper. There's a shade of navy blue that you catch before the momentary vertigo flushes your senses.

You thought you grew out of that.

You find yourself next to a great, broad river. Lush tropical greenery abounds on the other side, but this one is wet sand. You're next to a thick, overgrown forest that reminds you of South America and beyond it is a mountain range. If this is, in fact, Sudamerica, and the thick mist is, in fact, a sign of the morning...

You're on the west side of the Andes. Southern Chile, maybe? You can divine that much with the sun's help. If so, this is a surprisingly faithful reconstruction of League territor-

Well, maybe not. Off to the side, as the mighty river hides and shows its sandy, muddy bank, are lights. Your Recon sight tells it comes from powerful projectors. Military-grade, anti-mist. You've seen and studied your fair share of 223X maps and you sure as hell didn't see any settlements here. Going by what you know, there's no reason to place a base anywhere in Chilean lands, unless there's an active conflict going on. But the Confederacy and the League aren't at war. What the hell is this? A hypothetical scenario? Laaame.

You crouch just in case and wait a few minutes. Nothing. No gongs, no announcements, no nothing. You let off several rounds and step outside the circle - though your pieces are not arranged in the traditional way. Your weapons work and the ground isn't mined.

Well, let's go by the objective.

You fan out across the landscape and scour the terrain. Four pieces run up the mountainside, one along the riverbank, away from the lamps. and the last, a Recon, plunges into the river.

The results are... mixed.

First off, the Recon in the river. It's shallow until about 5 meters in, at which point there's a cliff. There's nothing interesting in the river. Rather, the most interesting thing about the river is how devoid of anything it is. You can't see a single fish in the murky water. Not a single sign of aquatic life. If you were the type to care about the environment, you'd call it an ecological disaster.

Second, your Support, running along the river. Other than low-flying birds, you find surprisingly little wildlife. The lack of natural life is starting to get to you. You peer over the river - and see that fish are floating on the surface, one side up, but tails down in the water. A quick check with your Recon confirms the same situation in the opposite direction. Beneath your only Support's feet you begin to see dead birds carpeting the muddy sand.

This is starting worry you.

You chose to disregard the odd crunch beneath your feet in the jungle as twigs and branches, in spite of the fact that you could see nothing more than moss and leaves. Slowing down, your suspicions are confirmed: it's bugs. Dead insects, swarms of them. You push a reflexive feeling of raw, primal disgust back down your throat and trudge on. Even if the exoskeletal, godawful critters came alive and skittered about, swarming your pieces, you'd have nothing to fear. These soldiers are airtight. Literally.

Investigations done while running through the jungle return little useful information - other than "everything's dead".
[1/2]
>>
Eventually, two of your pieces - an Assault and an Engineer - reach a sort of outcropping that stands far enough apart from the jungle and far enough above said jungle to give you a good view of the area. Beyond the river is more and more forest. That's about as much as you can make out before the mist, which reminds you of industrial smog more and more, completely obscures your vision.

One detail definitely stands out, though. The tips of trees, the upper canopy of the entire rainforest - they're a smoky gray. You climb one of the nearby trees that shows this symptom and test the leaves. They're brittle, and they fall apart into ash at the slightest touch. Oddly poetic, considering their ashen color. Your last two pieces reach clearing free from thick foliage, too, though later.

General recon is more or less done, and all that remains is to chart a path towards your main meal, your entree. Or it would be all, if not for footsteps on the rocky plateau above your Engie and Assault. You crouch them both and aim straight up, occasionally looking to the side for potential encroaching hostiles. None appear and you go back to hiding.

Shockingly, you hear voices. Human voices. They're muffled, but the Engie's sensitive equipment is a godsend - you can make out the words. Unfortunately, you can't make out the meaning quite as well. It's an odd tongue, swift and rapid, full of sonorants and trills. No wait, you've heard it before. Shanoa's family would sometimes speak a language very similar, if not identical, among themselves.

The de Giraltido family...

You decide that you've waited long enough. You need to move before you lose any more initiative. You guide both your Assault and your Engie along the rock formation at the foot of the mountain range. With your judicious movements, you manage to run around the tactically important piece of scenery and come up behind the two individuals, who are still conversing in their machinegun tongue.

You approach the two men with plans to try and talk it out. You know, communicate? Can't we all just get alon-

NOT WITH THOSE RIFLES NUH-UH EAT SHIT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH

BANGBANGBANG!

BANGBANG! BANG! BANG!

When the smoke clears, you've won. By some strange miracle, the only things you've managed to hit are the AK-12s in the poor men's hands. They drop their rifles like they're hot - and they are - cursing and shaking their hands all the while, in some outlandish dance. You'd smile, if you had a mouth to smile with.

You remember a time when you were concerned over not having a mouth anymore. You were scared you'd have no way to vent away the pain if you ever got hit. With no mouth you could not scream if you had to. It was only later that you found about the lack of pain receptors in pieces. That, and the fact that pieces might not have mouths, but they do have jaws, movement with which adds a new dimension to user interface control.

When you've got both hands on your rifle, you can't exactly swipe fingers in the air like a doofus. Move your jaw a little and bam! you know the relative distance to all your instances. Doesn't make for good cinema, though.

You proceed to CQC the gasmasked men - smack one across the face, slap the other upside the head. You begin the arcane process of trying to communicate with them in every way you know how - starting with sassy body language that Shanoa once taught you. Damn, girl could move that ass. Your ministrations are nowhere near as successful on the men and you try to tap out morse code, assemble letters out of rounds, everything you can. You try to improvise sign language, eventually, and begin getting somewhere. As soon as they understand the concept of "I, look, camp" it all goes to hell.

One does a beautiful half-somersault over the ledge. The other follows it with a vertical 180 backwards. Shit, maybe Shanoa's dance did the job.

You look over the landscape again, but see much the same as before.

Your new, superior vantage point does little to improve visibility, hindered by what you are now certain is industrial smoke. The soft, milky appearance it took by the water threw you off. Nevertheless, it's definitely early morning. Your Assault descends to loot the corpses, but comes up mostly empty-handed. You shot the rifles up and the ammo isn't compatible. They had one 'nade between the both of them, which is less than impressive. A small medkit, for which you've got no use, and a box of matches is all the riches you can plunder. You pocket the matches out of some sort of kleptomaniac greed.

Loot is loot!

You look back at the mountain range, since you'll likely be traversing it to get where you need to be. By using reverse slope defensive tactics, you can both hide and fire on the enemy with relative impunity. It's perfect. Just gotta keep the perimeter secure, but with six squadmates controlled by one mind, communication, the toughest part, is a complete non-isuue. Having seen nothing new or of note with any of the other pieces, you gather your forces at the outcropping and set forth, destination - the crest.

Once there, an unpleasant surprise greets you. You sight several pieces of the same make as your own, climbing up the mountain.

Go time. Or maybe not?

[13>9; Great success!]

You drop everyone to the ground and drop the first three pieces you see. None of them have any armor. Panic sets in. A fourth piece runs out into the open to get gunned down, sewn through with three different rounds from three different guns.

You need to keep the initiative. In what is a hell of a risky move, you send your Recon out to leap over everyone's heads. It works splendidly, the last two instances of your enemy's will open fire the moment they are able and so get pumped full of bullets.

Time to collect.

Your adversary had nothing more than three Assaults, two Engineers and a Recon, which means your own two Assaults and two Engies will have ammo to spare. You hand the assault rifles out - both Engineers exchange their SMGs for full-fledged ARs and reliniquish their old weapons for the Support and Recon to use as secondaries. The two extra rocket launchers and accompanying quivers also go to the Support and Recon. An armored and a super mobile piece of rocket infantry make for a bevy of new tactical options.

You've got two options, now.

You could search for your Arachnid, which you can't connect to. Otherwise, you can just continue on your warpath.

You gather your squad of guerilla fighters and move along the crest. On the far side, where the harmless bodies of your vanquished enemy still lie in a heap. Travelling on the gravel and oddly dried-up leaves, you find it hard to keep your movements silent.

These jungles reach up to the mountain range's top and recede again. Only the occasional breeze causes a rustle to resound as leaves break off from the tropical lush.

You're as well-armed as ever. However, that's not enough to put you at ease. You can't see it, but you're sure there's a trail beneath your feet that you're following. All the turns and twists in your way seem to come naturally - a left here, a right there and another right right after. Just one thing worries you.

There's another squad on your side of the mountain range. They're far below, you can barely detect them with you Recon's senses, but they're definitely there. No mistake about it. You decide not to engage them, being so well-armed. You've got too much to lose.

There's the characteristic sounds guns blasting down below, a sure sign that a firefight has started. You let the other squad handle it and use the sounds to mask your accelerated approach. Before long, you're looking a steel fence tipped with barbed wire. Looks thin. Who are they trying to keep out with that stuff?

U-untrue! I know I'm being a shit. It's time to stop.

You send the Support and an Engineer forward to storm the fence - and fire two rockets to make room for them. The pieces run in and make L turns right away. An alarm begins blaring. You hear more chatter - this time in Confederate tongue. Comms devices and loudspeakers send out information and commands without rolling their Rs. Yep, definitely Confederate.

The dust settles down, and by the time it has, the rest of your squad has pulled up to the vanguard. Confederate flags are painted on some buildings and hang from poles. VTOL aircraft with strange roundels in the League's colors sit in the middle of the encampment, empty. You see a number of MLRS artillery pieces. This must be the objective. However, you only see three. The others must be elsewhere. If they aren't what are just three machines doing here?

You have two general thoughts regarding the location of your objective. Either these machines are spread out through this camp or they're parked elsewhere. Likely the latter, given the abundance of AA missile systems that litter the surroundings.

You're gonna need to start moving before you've been spotted. If these guys get the jump on you, they can leverage their advantage and neutralize you.

Wow, I just woke up and read Dakimakura Smuggler Quest. You've been forgiven for dieing and reviving multiple times, OP. I understand completely now.

Can we expect more in the future?

Yeah. I didn't really make use of the idea's potential, but an anon in Cutie G gave me a good direction. Next thread should be much better.

Nice unanimity.

Writing.

No no no, don't go! It won't be one of those hour-and-a-half updates! Stop!
>>
>>33888806
No, it'll be a 3 hour long update. Oh well, Time to get to work, if I'm lucky I'll get to see one update by the time break comes up.

This is what NTR must feel like.

My only consolation is that I have only myself to blame.

You decide that sticking your neck out will yield only a bullet.

It's time to go. Your Recon goes first, naturally. You jump on the roof, SMG in hand, marksman rifle on your back. Three soldiers - let's call them humies - are trying to surround you. Two behind one corner, one in another, about to initiate combat, four more running up behind you.

You leap from this roof to the next and drop the two soldiers that could get a crossfire in on you while the main squad proceeds in the lonely fighter's direction, gunning him down like it's nothing. You proceed apace. You'd love to look inside some of these facilities, but you aren't willing to run the risk of being caged in and surrounded.

You manage to let off two shots in between fighting the personnel, neutralizing two MLRS units. They haven't yet raised the VTOLs, so blowing those up isn't in your best interests just yet. You follow an arc in your movements, staying between the fence and any structures you can find. That is, until you come up to the first real obstacle - a radar station. An enormous disc pointing up at the sky, like a radar dish would in past centuries. Peeking over tactical cover and makeshift fortifications are humie soldiers.

They've been expecting you.

ROCKETS as distraction
>>
>>33889907
>>33889958
You don't have time to get embroiled in this firefight. Thankfully, you've got almost as many rocket launchers as you do infantry pieces, so the solution is simple - blast the disc installation, fire at the ground, kick up dust and dirt.

The execution is a bit less simple - you prepare a couple of grenades, too. In a scene that calls to mind the image of soldiers putting up a flag, you coordinate to create the maximum possible amount of distracting havoc.

6 seconds pass. 3 humies die. No casualties are sustained. You pass through the chokepoint.

Structures start occurring less and less often and the distance between them gradually increases. On one hand, this gives you plenty of breathing room to blow up the MLRS machines. On the other hand, you're no closer to finding out where the main body of the artillery pieces is.

You're gonna need to either head towards the center of the camp or start searching the buildings. You take a minute to catch your mental breath. You need to think. You back half of your pieces up against the cheap concrete wall of yet another building - empty, if your Recon's ears can be believed. Two more pieces are on the lookout and one - that very same Recon - looks over the camp the roof.

Those artillery pieces are tracked, likely mounted on some sort of unified chassis also used by older tank models and APCs. They should put about as much weight on the ground as grown men, maybe some more. You could hide these - where?

The lands around this camp, which is by the river you started out near, are mostly swamps and jungle.

Swamps? Nah, they'd sink.
Jungle? Insects and assorted dirt. Well, maybe that's not an issue. But leaving them vulnerable to capture is unacceptable to any commander.

They'd have to be hidden from view.
[1/2, second part coming up real quick]
>>
Underwater? Unlikely. Even if these machines included sequential entry systems for entry from an aquatic environment, storing them underwater creates far too many issues, especially for the crew.
Underground?

Underground. They could definitely be underground.

You spot several structures that could house an entry underground.

Would this camp even have underground storage? You're willing to try and find out.

The question is... where's the entrance? There's three likely candidates.

The hangar, which has a wide road leading up to it, making it relatively easy to store and retrieve all that artillery. However, you'd need to roll all the aircraft out first, because that little, virginal half-cylinder will not accommodate both planes and MLRS units in it at once.

The command structure, at the very heart of the camp. Three goddamn stories tall, makes this place look like a small town. You could imagine that part of the first floor is occupied by a portion of the ramp necessary for moving the artillery in and out. That's the only way the command structure could be a place of interest for you, because you can't see any roads approaching it from the back.

The last place is not far from where you passed by. It's kind of an open space, littered with radars, anti-air missile systems and assorted tools for intercepting death from above. There's square hatches in the ground, four that you can see, all of which could be hiding those crucial ramps. The only reason you're not there and back already is that it's... Well, it's way the fuck too conspicuous. You feel a little insulted at the notion that it could be this easy to find.

That, and it could be a trap. So, where to?
