“A mystery that will probably never be solved.” you quickly reply before you step out of the carriage, now at your destination, the supply docks near the now closest astral portal. A large crowd seems to have gathered around the area, currently held at bay by a guard line with mortal guards. In the back a large warehouse seems to be blocked off, and a few blood splatters and scorch marks can be seen on the ground. Thankfully you don’t draw too many stares yet, dressed conservatively in casual clothing with your armour underneath.

“What’s the situation?” you ask a nearby guard.

“D-Duke Browning!” a nearby guard gasps.

“Time is of the essence, so give us the brief details.” you tell him.

“Y-Yes ma’am! About an hour ago, a gang of Miyian’s known as the Hydrogen’s took over the building, killing the guards inside of the building before killing a few more outside before they announced they had hostages. We’ve kept our distance since then, but we were unsure of how to proceed until we heard orders from the higher ups.” the guard replies.

“Hm...” you say as you trail off in thought. “...Wait, Brodin?”

“What? I’m here for the clean up.” Brodin replies.

“You’re here because this is a booze warehouse.” Sebastien replies.

“I’m sure they won’t notice a barrel or two missing during the chaos.” Brodin replies.

The guard just shakes his head. “Only that you step down from your position as Baron of Lord TO so that the Miyian’s could appoint someone of their choosing. Who they haven’t said. Negotiators haven’t had much luck either, as they don’t appear to be interested in talking.”

A map let’s you focus on the spacial coordinates easily enough, opening up scrying windows inside of the warehouse to see where a good place to drop the portals would be.

“There’s a place in the middle of the warehouse. Miyian guards are there, but they’re loaded drunk.” you comment.

“Easy pickings.” Troy says running his fingers along the edge of his dagger, which looks to be more of a machete or shortsword.

“Just get ready. I can only keep the portal open for a few seconds at most.” you reply as you walk over around a nearby corner, drawing a chalk circle on the wall as you begin the ritual for portals. It’s a fairly lengthy ritual at nearly 15 minutes in length, but you eventually manage to get your portal open to the location despite encountering minor ward by the Miyian forces.

Without a word, the stealth group slips through the portal just as it closes behind them, your last image of them standing up on top of a column of barrels.

“Time for my action...” you say rolling your shoulders before heading off towards the warehouse.

“WHERE THE HELL IS THE RESPONSE FROM THAT SO CALLED DUKE OF YOURS! I KNOW YOU’VE HAD ENOUGH TIME FOR EVEN A CRIPPLED RUNNER TO DELIVER A MESSAGE TO HER!” A Miyian shouts up from the second story building.

“Yes, I did get you message, otherwise I wouldn’t be here otherwise.” you reply.

“Oh look who showed up! The Okarian bitch herself!” the Miyian calls out from the second story. You can hear her, but you can’t see her. Which makes any sort of aether sight problematic. “Don’t try anything funny either! I’ve got a hostage right here, and one slip of my wrist and his head will be coming clean off you hear me!?”

“P-Please stop this!” a young man can be heard begging.

“Shut up!” the Miyian replies, a hand in the window making a quick movement to something below the window frame, most likely hitting him for speaking.

“Secure the perimeter! Make sure no one tries to escape!” you order the guards as you rush inside of the building.

As soon as you enter the building, you’re shot with a stray lightning blast from above. Your own ability in light magic allows you to deflect the beam with your light barrier easily enough.

Looking up into the rafters, you can see Sebastien currently having a shootout with some Miyian’s up on top, unable to use his big gun. Troy hops down from the rafters and slices the neck on one of the Miyian’s trying to sneak around and stab Sebastien, while the sounds of Erika’s psi-sword can be heard in the room behind Sebastien.

“She uses light magic, use the physical weapons!” the Miyian leader up on the top floor says.

As you look down, you can see some Miyian’s rushing at you from across the room at speeds not possible for normal human running. You quickly adjust the local gravity, forcing at least two Miyian’s to continue their path now uncontrolled into the wall, the impact knocking them out cold. Two more however appear to have stopped just in time for the gravity nullification to come up, two of them jumping off the nearby pillars in the room and now rushing directly towards you.

You try to reverse the gravity on the Miyian’s in order to catch them off guard, but the only thing that happens is them landing on their feet and rushing towards you. This catches you completely off guard for a moment, one of the blades a Miyian takes out crackling with electricity while an axe with green fires blazes in front of you. Deciding that the axe is going to hurt a lot less, you dodge the axe while leaning into the electrified sword to help pull the blow.

The sword hits the side of your traditional armour through your clothing, but even then you can feel the shock of the sword rip through your body. You grit your teeth as you swing your own axe back at her, narrowly missing both of the Miyian’s and causing them to hop back.

Son of a bitch, these ones not only have devices that boost their movement, but also let’s them ignore changes in gravity up to a certain extent.

Seeing that trick is down, you switch to your old favorite of the annihilator shot. You charge up a shot quickly before throwing it at the axe Miyian. She curves to avoid the attack, but your attack is faster as it hits her dead on, exploding in a force that sends heavy alcohol laden drinks. Her flaming axe then catches herself on fire, the Miyian screaming in pain as green flames engulf her.

The other Miyian looks on in terror, stepping away from you as she looks at her flaming companion in utmost horror.

“Fuck this! Nobody move!” the Miyian leader says above you. “We’re getting the hell out of here, and you’re going to let us, otherwise this man dies!”

Making a small scrying window, you view up to the second floor so you can see the Miyian. You can see that she currently has the young working man held up by knifepoint at the neck. Tears fall down his face as she currently stares down Sebastien from across the hall.

You need to be careful here, one wrong move could trigger the Miyian and it could be over in a split second...

You decide to reach out to save the Miyian on fire, using your darkness powers to wrap up and around her in order to smother the fire that is around her.

“That’s the last time you lay your hand on our kind Okarian!” the lead Miyian says as she slits the throat of the man above.

Sebastien reacts instantly, firing a shot that hits the Miyian square in the chest. Troy leaps from the ceiling as well, cutting off the Miyian’s knife hand from above.

Upon returning to the castle, you find out that about seven out of the 16 Miyian’s came back alive, many of them being treated inside of the dungeon. Many of them being treated by Leona, a person whom you can trust. Knowing your luck a guard may let a Miyian out to soften you up.

“Lady Brooklyn.” Nalika replies as she enters your study in your private bedroom.

“What is it Nalika?” you reply, not looking up from the blank sheet of paper that is supposed to go to the man’s family.

“One of the Miyian’s you captured wishes to speak with you.” Nalika replies. “She said that she’s willing to talk so long as willing to let her go.

“Enough to know your personality profile said you had a soft spot for mortals and that taking people hostage was enough of a threat that it might get you to reconsider or show up. Secondly, we knew your combat abilities rather well, and many of us were specifically decked out to deal with Light and Dark controls.” The Gemelli replies.

“So where you hired?” you ask.

“I’m not exactly sure, but it seems like we were hired by someone within the University, at least that’s what my guess would be. I’m fairly certain my boss was the only one who knew for certain, as we didn’t hear anything from even those directly under her, and believe me they’re into some vile things.”

To many Miyian’s it’s completely unfair that the Okarian’s live in their ivory tower which is largely unchanged since the old world, and not only that but the Okarian’s have occupied the better off parts of the city. Many of us were fighting against Okarian expansion attempts into our own territory for many years, and many Miyian’s are very protective of the land they have left.” The Gemelli clarifies. “Most of thought that as soon as an Okarian became Dutchess, all Miyian territory had their days numbered.”

“Didn’t the Pride Demon’s legally give you control of some land?” Nalika asks.

“They did, but they never enforced it. Unless the clan war came to their doorstep, they often avoided anything resulting from it. In fact I think they didn’t care a single bit that Miyian territory was lost, as the Pride Demon’s didn’t care about Miyian’s in general. The only reason we have the University is for them to prevent young Miyian’s from blowing themselves up.”

Well, our ultimate solution to that is careful management of the population in Old TO, the raising of humans up to benefit their talents (while employing them by using those talents to generate aether for succubi, giving humans money, recognition, and value within succubi culture).

As for Science > Magic, remember that Magic IS a science, and that the Witches FUSE magic and technology.

Finally, the idea of a people in a 'middle class' is good, but it automatically assumes that there will be those below holding up those above. There may be winners and losers in society, but the poor are an economic drag, thus helping them achieve their own worth is in our economic benefit.

This is all up to Sandact, but I think at least part of what I'm saying meets his vision for the story.

“Including the one’s who hate Okarian’s or no?” the Gemelli asks.

“May as well hear both.” you reply.

“Miyian power structure is a bit different than other demons. Often we high regards to those who are masters in their respective fields. Usually such people are also incredibly strong as well given that they could all make doomsday machines of some sort. The first is Sister Lacosta and her speciality is the axiom of Apokalypsi. She’s a gentle soul who follows the teachings from the teach of Pamille loyally, but is also loyal to the Miyian’s as well. If you’re looking for a woman whose loyalities do not lie with Beck, then I’d most likely start with her. Just be warned, she tends to pull information from nowhere and it often disturbs people who first see her.”

“Good good, keep this coming.” you say encouraging her.

“Beck, legally, has the same rank as Lacosta, but her speciality is that of Katastrofi.” the Gemelli states.

“...Destruction if I remember the Miyian practice areas well enough.” you reply.

“Correct, though I’ve never actually seen her build something that could take down a city, I heard she once made a superweapon during the Science Lord wars. The Pride Demons took it away after the war, but they must’ve been thankful as they didn’t even punish her for building such a device.” the Gemelli replies. “Shoujing Ming is a Miyian from the Cli lands, and her speciality is that of Automata, and she’s almost always surrounded by a few of her creations. Her loyalties lie heavily with Beck, so I’d probably stay away from her.”

“Great, someone who can mass produce powerful golems.” you reply.

“I’m not exactly sure they’re listening to her by force. Shoushen Jing often orders her creations around by force, giving them free will but forbidding them from acting against her. I think if you freed her creations they’d be happy to help in return.” The Gemelli states. “The Epikrato expert known as Lady Hemmingsway is currently in jail, under orders by Beck for her attempt to try and take over the University... and all of Old TO. She’s been diagnosed with MADS so she’d be a wildcard at best. Um... Lady Barbara is the one who is an expert with Exelixi, the axiom of healing and restoration. All I know is that she owes Beck massive loyalty since she literally is a rags to riches story and Beck was the person who helped her. She’s in charge of the medical department in the university as well.”

“Anyone else?” you ask.

“The current Metaptropi expert, the axiom of change and transformation, is currently in the process of being filled. The last Metaptropi died in a tragic accident that irreversibly turned her and her entire lab into gouda cheese.” the Gemelli replies. “Fairly recent, but it’s new enough that many people aiming for that spot are still preparing for their conflict against other competitors. The Prostasia expert known as Mi-Trak Scrillion is a Miyian from the Sloth demon territory, one that Beck freed from their caste system of slavery and whom loyalties lie with Beck. This one is the hardest to gather information about, because any sort of eavesdropping is almost impossible with those Prostasia inventions she has at her disposal.”

“And the last?” you ask, thinking there’s one more.

“Solace in Numbers is the last Miyian expert in Skafoi, the axiom of travel. We have no idea where she’s currently at, as her and Beck are rumored to constantly have disputes with one another. I think the rumors are that Beck gave Solace’s competitors extra resources to try and replace her and Solace caught her in the act. Because of this, Solace generally spends her time away from the university, which she has the perfect cover story she’s also the dean of the archaeology department at the University.” the Gemelli explains. "That's all of the influential Miyians I can think of off the top of my head."

“Can you notice Miyian inventions on sight?” you ask.

“It... doesn’t work that way. Asking to see a Miyian invention is akin to seeing a sword made by a swordsmith. There are many different styles.” the gemelli replies.

You make a small holographic image appear from your hands, the same things the Draugr summoned during your battle with Dio. “These things in particular, I want to know if they were using Super Science equipment for certain.”

The Gemelli leans in closer to the hologram as she studies it closely. “Hm... I can’t tell. The armour certainly seems futuristic and... Argh I’m sorry. My thinking is a bit fuzzy since my partner is sleeping right now.”

“Do your best, that’s all I ask.” you reply.

“I think I’ve seen similar designs from the Sloth Demons, though that’s just a shot in the dark. Is there anything else you could tell me?” the Gemelli asks.

“They appeared from a pool of darkness and vaporized into darkness upon death.” Nalika replies.

“Their voices were also monotone, like Okarian’s, but they didn’t seem like Succubi.” you reply.

“In all likelihood these things are made using the Automata axiom, only with really good weapons and armour. It would explain them being vaporized upon death, but using darkness to enter battle seems to be something new. It certainly sounds like technology however, but none I’ve ever heard of.” The gemelli replies.

“Nalika, send a message to Lacosta. Tell her it involves the Church of Pamille in Old TO.” you order Nalika.

“Right away Dutchess Brooklyn.” Nalika replies. “I’ll sketch her in before you meeting with the current leaders tomorrow.”

“Anything on my schedule today?” you ask.

“...Just handling Lady Excel and her new accommodations.” Nalika replies.

We didn't technically promise anything, but they've been really cool. We should at least point out they didn't force us to agree before they talked, and others wouldn't be as nice.

"Technically, you didn't remember to get me to agree to give you anything," and interrupt with, 'I'm not finished yet!' if they complain, "but you have helped me with a possible way to heal the rift between Miyians and Okarians, along with several other useful bits of information. So I will let you go as long as you do some sort of community service for anything you and your partner damaged and anyone either of you injured.

Beyond that, I would recommend not telling anyone about what I asked for, as I hope you can see you may have been set up here to gauge my abilities. Finally, if you can convince the leader of your group that your partner isn't dead, that may be helpful.

“Due to your cooperation, I have decided on a lighter sentence for you. I’ll need time to think on it, but until then I’ll see that your food in the dungeon is better than what they usually serve.” you tell the Gemelli.

“Thank you so much!” The Gemelli says with a bow.

As you leave the dungeon, new things come to mind. “Wait a second, what about those challengers?”

“You may fight a few today if you want, although after the hostage situation today some of the people were removed from the list.” Nalika states. “Your only official knight is Mina, which means that she can also fight some challengers on your behalf. I too could handle some, but I’d prefer if I didn’t.”

Hm... Dealing with Excel is important, but you also have a lot of other things to handle as well...

A) Get Mina and go handle some challengers
B) Check up on your pet, Amelia, to see how she’s doing.

You decide to go over to see how Excel is doing, hopefully her adjusting well with moving in and all. You honestly count your luck that the Draugr didn’t go after her first, as he would’ve known where Excel’s lives with him having all your memories since your ‘death’.

The area where Excel is being moved into is one of the towers of the castle proper, one smack in the middle of the castle and closest to Lord Di- *your* new quarters (when they finish cleaning that place out).

You walk by some workers who are taking a large painting of the previous room’s occupant out, before walking into the room proper. Your Father is helping Excel adjust to the new room. Excel currently is jumping on top of the mattress in the room like a little kid.

“Brooklyn!” Excel says as she jumps off the bed and runs towards you.

“Excel!” you say running over to her with arms extended.

Just before Excel is about to hug you, she grabs your collar and pulls it open, making buttons fly to show your traditional armour underneath.

“Why in our mother’s name were you wearing THAT when delivering your speech!? Do you have any idea how embarrassed I was when my friends at work asked that my BROTHER was wearing something you’d see at the Red Light District!?” Excel exclaims.

“I was so worried about you too!” you say hugging her tightly. Excel immediately finding some flaw in someone upon meeting them is just her character.

“No! Stop hugging me you pervert!” Excel says trying to push you away.

You take a small breath from your fight with your sister before it escalates into a bigger shouting match. “Dad, do you know anything about the minions the Draugr summoned during that battle with Dio?”

Your father thinks heavily for a few moments. “I’m not sure. They’re nothing like I’ve ever seen before. I’d probably say they’re golems of some sort due to their lack of emotion. Golems are also easier to transport than living beings.” your father replies. “I think the best course of action would be to try to capture one for study, if possible.”

“Hm...” you say thinking.

(And that’d be the end of the thread since it seems things are dying down. As for DP, there was 200 you gained from dio, then 50 from both the hostage rescue operation and your grand speech. I’ll be here to answer questions until the thread dies)

After spending some time with Excel and your family, you retreat back to your guest room and decide to check on how your pet Amelia is doing.

Going back to your studies and deciding to procrastinate further on the letter writing, you try to casually open a space window to see where Amelia is and fail at doing so.

“...Odd. My memory of her shouldn’t be that far gone.” you reply as you reach into your pocket, pulling out a small locket of Amelia’s hair to use as a catalyst for the spell and take your time in casting it, hoping to overpower any sort of ward that may be protecting her.

As you open the window, you can see them being in what appears to be a small makeshift shrine in some unknown location. All of them are kneeling in front of a statue of an Angel, one with four wings with a stunningly beautiful woman.

“-ot sure we can take on the new Demon Dutchess by ourselves.” the Dragonborn Paladin comments.

“We’re sure we could handle her, but she has support from the Succubi community, including power players such as the Subota’s themselves. If she were to die, then there is absolutely no way we’d be able to safely retreat from the area, not with Luna Subota now in the area.” the Dwarf Fighter in armour says kneeling on the ground.

“Rockfist as a point milord. Subota herself managed to ward both Old TO and Edmonton off by herself, and those wards are still active. We do not have the power to go up against a ward of that strength and expect to reasonably break through.” Amelia replies while kneeling on the ground.

“Worry not. The forces of Celestia shall not let these people suffer under the foot of Demonic rule any longer. W-” The angel stops speaking for a moment, the head of the statue now turning to face you. “We’re being watched!”

Almost immediately the Ranger gets up, turns around, and fires a bow off in one fluid movement. You barely dodge in time as the arrow hits only a few inches from your head.

Immediately you terminate the connection you have with the window before immediately beginning on a small makeshift ward before they attempt to scry you back. Looking back at your chair, you grab the arrow and pull it out of the chair, looking at it over you can see the tip of the arrow appears to be somewhat distorted. Looking at it with space vision, you can see that the arrow actually exists in a four dimensional plane of sorts, but struggles to manifest within a three dimensional plane.

“Hm... Distortion arrows.” you muse to yourself, that’s how he was able to use a scrying window to attack you.
