WISE UP: My enemies…

Kouga, like I said last time, my enemies are near there… I am not sure if they are after the grimoire or if they are there for something else, but be wary… and don’t trust them (then again, to be fair they will tell you to not trust me).

If things get hard, don’t be afraid to run away. As long as you are alive, you will always have another opportunity to do something, but a dead man can’t do anything. Sometimes retreating is the only thing you can do.

So be careful. Their light is like poison to someone like you, Kouga, whose powers come from the darkness primordial. Honestly they are not enemies you can deal with easily.

WISE UP: Other Mages?

Mages are heretics, enemies of our Lord, but even know when the gates of hell are about to be opened we have to tolerate them.

But now that you have asked, Son of Darkness, I will consider their existence, as much as it pains me to. In this city, besides the alchemists who have forsaken the teachings of our Lord and the witch of light who has desecrated the light we believe in, there is a considerable concentration of blasphemers and cultists who commune with the demons to obtain power and have lost their way.

Sadly their souls are lost, and there shall not be any mercy for them.

Besides that, there are two children of the darkness in the city, a seer, a grieving child of fire and flames who recreates the legends of old, and finally a man who sees the stars.

Outside the city, there is a deep darkness approaching, one who has blasphemed against our Lord and his return on the third day. A heretic such as that woman is not someone that shall be forgiving.

Either it was a new evolution of the pattern of the 1st, or this is something similar but different? Wise Up: My enemies...

You already know who my enemies are Kouga, they are the machines created to serve that mad tyrant who dares call himself the God of Order. They are soulless things without freedom that only exist for the purpose of exalting his name.

They are divided into different ranks, starting with the Angels and ending with the Seraphs, but all of them wield the power of light as they please, which means you should avoid fighting them. After all you don't want to be exorcied by an angel do you?

Right now you don't have to worry about them, I doubt they will try to do anything too important here, and realizing in the world of light is something they won't do just because... so you don't have to fear.

Still, that bitch is there... and that worries me. But she has always been a coward, one who hides behinds her other brothers and prefers to use others to act, so I doubt she will try to fight you personally, so she is a non-issue.

Here you pause, and the moment Vivianca sees your serious witch face, the alchemist’s eye narrow and the bright smile she has plastered on her face grows dim and straight. “Using the grimoire we are looking for and the power running under the city, someone, like a group of cultists, could use it to open a gate to the underworld and summon a legion of demons into this world of light.

Hearing this, the last traces of a smile leave Vivi’s face, and all that is left is steel, steel that exists to protect the Justice of this city. Without even asking you anything else, or even hesitating, Vivi simply answers, “Then let’s get that grimoire and move, Saint Kouga, we don’t have time to waste.”

“Wait, but there might be someone behind this, I think that there are probably some sort of demon cultists involved with this, but that might not be all, someone could be behind this and that worries…” You want to protest more, but Vivi just silences you by placing one of her fingers on your lips.

“I already can guess that, Kouga, but it doesn’t matter, we just have to secure the Grimoire right, then let’s get moving.” Gee, how can this girl just say it like that, this is not so simple.

“Then let’s go rejoin my friends.” You still want to ask Vivi more questions, but you feel you have neglected Eden and Versa enough, if you stay away any longer, you feel that Eden and BT will start to worry about you.

Quickly, you guide the alchemist warrior to your designated meeting point, where your fellow Saints are waiting. When Eden sees you, he moves in to questions you, but as he lays eyes on Vivianca, the prince quickly stops himself and goes on the defensive.

BT on the other hand, is literally preparing to rip the alchemist head off.

Yay for friendship.

Raising your two hands in a sign of peace, you start talking… quickly, no need to tell Medea that you got her son killed in a catfight. “Eh… guys, this is Vivianca Barlobello, the alchemist I met yesterday, I asked her to join us to retrieve the Grimoire in case anything happens.”

Eden being the mature and smart prince that he is (…kinda), quickly shifts gears, and extends an open sign of friendship to Vivi, “I am the Orion Saint, seeing as you are working with us, I hope you don’t slow us down alchemist.” Yep, a true sign of friendship.

Even Black Tarantula joins in on the hugs and kisses, “Alchemist, I do not trust you, but if Kouga has decided this, let’s work in the same unit.” Yep, Versa is a very welcoming person.
Yep, this is a real festival of friendship… yep. You feel like crying.

But Vivi just ignores everything, and soldiers on like a true hero! “Understood, then let us all work together to make a world filled with justice and peace!” Vivi’s bright smile is like a gospel of friendship, but sadly your partners are not too open about it, but at least you got that out of the way.

Turning to Vivi, you ask her a question, “Do you know how the demon summoning works, and do you have some ideas on how to abort the ritual if it starts?” Well the more options you have the better, the Mana Burn is your last resort, and you want to leave it at that.

Sadly Vivi can only shake her head, “Sorry, I am not that type of mage, I only understand the bare mechanics of how the gate might work, and sadly, my team only came here to take some measurings about the situation in Paris, we are not equipped to handle something like that. If I had the time I could go back to Atlas and ask a specialist to prepare something, but sadly that would take a week. I guess that in the end, we need to get the Grimoire now.”

The alchemist pauses for a moment, and brings a finger to her lips in a thinking position, “Say, Kouga, what are you going to do with the Grimoire when we secure it? You never told me why you were so adamant about you getting to keep the Grimoire?” Smart girl, fishing for info too, you guess it's fair enough.

But… this is a tricky one, how do you should you answer this one? And honestly, what are you going to do with the book, that’s a good question indeed.

“It’s simply, we will seal that thing in the deepest abyss of the Sanctuary and stop everyone from misusing it. So don’t worry, I promise that the book won’t get misused. I am also someone that fights for Justice.” You give Vivi your nice guy smile while explaining her how that would work.

And this is not a lie, sure you aren’t sure what Medea might do with the book, and you are planning to peak at it at least once when you get home, but you are sure that in the end your teacher will seal the thing off and dump it into your library.
Plus it’s not like you or your teacher would do anything that would go against Justice, right?

Vivi takes a few moments to think, but in the end she buys into your quick explanations about how the Sanctuary has a secret vault where it stuffs all sorts of evil grimoire and magic weapons that can destroy the world (this is also true).

In the end Vivi simply believes in you, “I understand, then I will trust that you will make sure that the book is not used to do Evil, right Saint Kouga?” Seeing you nod energetically simply makes the taller girl smile back at you, “Then I have nothing to worry about, I am sure that an ally of justice like you can handle everything. Then… let’s go Kouga, we have work to do.”
A part of you feels bad about kinda lying to Vivi, but it’s the truth… just not the whole truth. There is nothing wrong with that right.

“Eh, Vivi could you give us a moment… please!” Not even giving the alchemists any time to protest, you drag both Eden and BT to a corner, away from everything and everyone.

It’s time to talk, and this one will probably not be a nice talk.

You level a glare at both Eden and BT and seeing as it does nothing to intimidate them, you just talk. “Look, I know you both have plenty of reasons to not like the alchemists or Vivi, but we all know there is something weird going on… and that’s why we need their help, to prevent something horrible from happening here.” You take a moment to meet both Eden’s and BT’s eyes, “Do you two get me?”

You don’t expect them to answer you, but BT, who lacks some of the knowledge of how these things works, actually answers you, “As I understand it, I am trying my best to be cordial with the alchemist, but no matter what she says, she is my enemy, and I can’t afford to lower my guard with an Alchemist.”

For the first time since you met BT (which is admittedly like more or less a week or so), your friends words carry a terrible venom. You aren’t sure what BT’s exact problem with Vivi (besides the fact that it involves Versa being a homunculus), but you are feeling it’s not that simple.

But before you can say anything, Eden cuts in, “Black Tarantula is correct Kouga, we can’t lower our guard with your new alchemist friend. You are correct in the fact that there is much riding on securing that book, and that is exactly why we have to be wary of outsiders, including the alchemists. There is something strange about that Vivianca girl… she just opened up too easily, and I fear she might betray us down the line.”

This again, Eden is just being too paranoid, right? It’s like his Beatrice is evil theory, totally unfounded, but you aren’t sure how to handle this.

If you allowed yourself to be honest, you are probably the one who is being wrong here, Medea has always told you that people lie, that they betray and use each other time and time again, but…

The darkness you believe in is a gentle darkness, one that welcomes everyone and everything. It doesn’t exclude everything but one person like the primordial darkness that god represents and that shitty third-rate imitation that only exists to devour everything in its poison and hate can’t even dare to try and compare.

Your darkness is a warm darkness, one that accepts… and that’s why you want to believe in others, including someone you just met like Vivi.
That’s also why you accept that it’s hard for both Eden and BT to simply accept Vivi, so you simply smile and talk, because honestly you are good at talking. “I know it is hard for both of you to deal with Vivi and honestly, you two might be right about her. But I don’t want to think like that, distrusting people and being scared of them.

Honestly, I feel that’s not a good way to live, nor it is how I want to live my life.” You turn to Eden and say, ”Part of being strong is not being afraid to be hurt, it means opening up to others and getting hurt, Eden.” Then you turn to Versa, “And part of being logical is understanding that your prejudices can hinder your goals, and understanding that sometimes you have to look beyond then, BT. I know that both of you are better than this, so please give it a try.

And even if you don’t trust her, then simply trust me. I trust Vivi and that should be enough for you two.” In other words you are asking them that if they can’t find it in their hearts to trust the alchemist, then they can trust in the you who trusts in Vivianca.

BT simply nods, logically and coolly understanding your implied orders and silently walks towards where Vivi is calmly waiting for your meeting to finish. You can’t exactly read her, but you can tell she is no longer as tense as she has been.

Plus the fact that she is no longer glaring daggers at Vivi is quite telling too.

But Eden is more complicated, so you turn your full attention to the prince and hear him out. “I… I still don’t trust her Kouga, but like you said, I simply must trust you then. Then fine, I will play along your plan, but I will keep my eye on her, just keep that in mind.”

That’s probably the best you can expect from the proud prince of Mars, so you simply nod, “That’s fine, like I said, I understand, plus you are doing this because you care… so let’s go, we have work to do, Eden.”

Both of you accept these terms, and together Eden and you walk calmly to meet your teammates, a sense of calmness and understanding passing between the two of you.

It’s not perfect, but you feel you are now a true team, and you are ready to tackle your mission.

So it’s time to steal the Grimoire of Prometheus, and now you know that no one will stop you.
