@QMKingofHearts.

Today is November 10th, UC 0083. You are Commander Dominic O'Hara, Earth Federation Space Forces, squadron leader for the mobile weapon forces aboard the SCV-82 Valkyrie. Today is the worst day you've had since the Solar Ray attack at A Baoa Qu some three years ago. In an attack you feel could have been prevented with greater vigilance on the part of the Admiralty, saboteurs placed throughout the fleet by the terrorist Admiral Delaz caused several ships' reactor cores to detonate during the combined Naval Review. The result is that some 25% of the fleet was instantly reduced to an orbital debris field, with varying degrees of damage to a further third or so of the fleet. The worst effect, however, was from the crash-landing of two stricken ships on inhabited cities: one hitting the depopulated center of Seattle, and the second wiping out the heavily-populated city of Nairobi.

The media on Earth, despite attempted press blackouts by the Federation government, have managed to report on the events as they continue to unfold, and popular sentiments have reached fever pitch. A quick look at the news shows mobs outside the assembly building at Dakar demanding a declaration of war, some against the Principality remnants, others against the Sides themselves. Still other calls from ultranationalist leaders demand the dissolution of the Federation and devolution of power to the national level. And as always in a time of crisis, there are some on Earth who spread fear of further attacks not out of a sense of civic duty, but a desire to sow chaos.

As for you? Despite the confusion among the fleet in the absence of clear chain of command, your purpose has never been clearer: on this day of days, you're ready to go to war.

Your senior officers, including your new Operators Takisawa and Anderson, gather in the ready room aboard the Valkyrie. As this is a newer ship, the space is more thoughtfully laid out than the Albion's cramped team ready-rooms, and has plenty of space to accommodate the bridge crews and mobile suit teams without feeling either claustrophobic or wasteful. On one of the screens you can see Captain Synapse, South Burning, and Kou Uraki aboard the Albion, and next to them are Defrah Kar and Lucette Audevie aboard the La Vie en Rose. To the side opposite the AE feed is Admiral Kowen: the man seems absolutely exhausted.

“Thank you all for joining us,” Kowen greets you as he slumps into his desk chair. “As you all know, we're in the middle of a situation. The Delaz fleet is finally moving, and it's every bit as bad as some of us were predicting. Our response from here will ignore chain of command, prioritizing the success of the mission over all military bureaucracy and decorum. Should you have any objections, please voice them now.”

Looking around, you can tell that there are varying degrees of discomfort in the room. Emary Ounce and Noel Anderson seem like they wanted to say something, but thought better. Most of the rest of your team are still a little shaken from watching the attack, but you get the sense that they're willing to break the rules if it means ending Delaz's ambitions with minimal further loss of life. Karen and the Sisters seem to be straining to hold back from launching a counterattack right at this moment.

"I want to see the ones who did this burn just as much as the next pilot, but rules are rules, Admiral. If we go against the law now, we're no better than the ones who sabotaged the fleet. If we start disregarding the rules of engagement now, it's only a slippery slope until we disregard ALL rules."

Come on Kowen. Don't roll over and let them Titan us.
Recommend to Kowen to transfer the Dendrobium to the Albion. We have a mobile armor, they should have one to in order to even the playing field.

Try and get a message off to Cima if the interference allows. We want a meet to hash out possible avenues of attack against Delaz. We can also unload the VV onto her.

Oh, see if we can get a GM Custom transferred to our ship. If things get bad enough, Karen can pilot as well.
>>
>>34818011
We're not disregarding the rules of engagement, we're disregarding the chain on command. Most likely in this timeline the changes we've made have given Kowen the chances to defy Jamitov more freely. What's happening here might well go on to be the foundation of the AEUG. Or whatever opposition to the Titans winds up existing in this continuity.
>>
>>34818123
The Titans are the good guys, yo!
>>
>>34818123
It's mostly to cover our own ass and Kowen's. If we disregard command, we can be labelled rogue or worse. Kowen has good intentions, but they're misguided.
>>
>>34817818
>I have no objections

maybe get a preliminary status report on the Fleet.

As a side note, Haman now knows what we felt during A-Boa-qu
>>
>>34818184
I get that. I'm just saying, Kowen's not about to do anything awful. He just doesn't agree with the strategy Jamitov's got. In canon this would lead to him being...well, we don't actually see it happen, but it's pretty strongly implied he was shot. But in this universe he has his own team of Newtype special forces to rely on. Still doesn't mean he won't be shot, but he's got the resources to do something without directly coming into conflict with the other Admirals.
>>
>>34818123

Could we not become the Titans? We do have the bonus of UNDERSTANDING and Newtype-Naked-Dream-Space, very important to being better than Paptimus....
>>
>>34818278
We probably will never be Titans. We were born in space, we're newtypes, a large proportion of our team are former Zeeks. We ask too many questions. We're pretty much Anti-Titans. I think they wouldn't let us in on principle.

If you mean the movement itself happening? We don't have a chance of stopping it.
>>
>>34818278
Just stop please.
>>
>>34818278
"You want to registered your Task Force as Titans? Sure. Just sign here, here, and here after depositing your 8 suitcases of gold there to Vice Chair MacPherson."
>>
>>34818278
Well, unlike the Titans, we actually care about the people rather than snatching power.

Think of this way. If we're successful, we might actually run the Titans or it's equivalent rather than Jamitov.
>>
>>34818246
Kowen might have been shot, but he lives all the way to continue greasing palms with Martha Vist in UC 0096.
>>
>>34818246
It boils down to Kowen giving the go-a-head for units to act outside the chain-of-command. The only thing stopping those units from pulling another shoah is their judgement - which is going to be heavily skewed in favor of vaporizing over anything else. Bureaucracy a shit, but it's there for a reason.
>>
>>34818383
Was this in the OVA or the novels? I might need to rewatch it.
>>
>>34817818
"Is this sanctioned, sir?" you mutter a little louder than you intended.

Kowen frowns. "Sanctioned by whom? Many of the senior Admiralty's ships were near the Birmingham when she blew, and a quarter of our fleet is gone. It's a mess out there, with command devolving to the surviving Admirals in cases where there's some remnant of command hierarchy."

"There's nobody TO sanction our missions now, Commander. So our only option is to act independently... if you have any alternatives, I'd be glad to hear them."

You shake your head. Really, there doesn't seem to be an alternative to the 'best you can do', in this case.

"Right, then," Karen continues with a curt nod. "How many ships do we have left?"

"Not including your own ships, fifty-three warships in serviceable condition, with 19 more damaged in orbit."

You see Captain Synapse nod to himself thoughtfully. "Against a Zeon fleet thought to be a third the size of our own, so around 30."

Kowen nods. "Correct. There are also an unknown number of Axis reinforcements, thought to number less than ten ships. Their objectives are unknown, but it seems likely they will act independently."

"Sir," Carya salutes. "Permission to speak?"

"Granted."

"Sir, it's a common supposition here that the Axis fleet would likely attack Side 3's leadership as a symbolic move."

Kowen reflects on the possibility for a moment before replying. "You mean to suggest Delaz and Bernini would strike their own homeland?"

"Under the view that it was occupied by a puppet regime," Carya continues, "yes. They might."

"It's a lose-lose situation for the Federation," Reiko observes keenly. "Either we win the engagement, and we're seen to be propping up a client state, or we lose, and we're seen as hamstringing the Republic's defense forces and failing to come to its aid."

"Interesting," Synapse admits. "So what do you make of the reports that the hijacked colonies may be headed for the Lunar cities?"

>I have an objection
We're going to also have to deal with military courts after this. Would rather have some protections for when that time comes.
>>
>>34818383
That was Kowen? I did not pick up on that.
>>
>>34818409
Still makes me wonder how any sane military would gather up all of their resources and fighting strength in a single place like that. Even the US Government makes sure at least one or two members in the presidential line of succession are safely squared away in big events.
>>
>>34818491
>sane

But really, it is kind of stupid. I guess some of it is justifiable with minovsky physics essentially meaning long range communication is impossible, so even if there was any member with the proper qualifications to lead, there'd be very little they could do about giving orders.
>>
>>34818491
This is the universe where space Nazis drop a cylinder onto a planet which supplies them with the majority of their food.

Common sense went out the window years ago.
>>
>>34818409
"Nonsense," Audrey replies resolutely. "The Lunar cities range from truly neutral to supportive of Spacenoid independence. Some even harbor Principality remnants. It would be a step backwards to actually drop a colony on the Moon."

"And yet many of my colleagues are in the process of jumping at that threat," Kowen sighs. "Many are trying to take matters into their own hands to intercept the rogue colony without bothering to take on more fuel for the trip. They're running a serious risk of stranding themselves out too far from Earth to handle a more credible threat. Which is why several officers are preparing the Solar Ray for countering a possible colony drop operation at range."

"But when the fleet runs low on fuel," Karen adds, "they become vulnerable."

"Still," Carya offers, "at least we have some evidence that Cima may switch sides."

"Before or after a colony hits Earth?" Takizawa counters.

"So it seems we have a dilemma," Karen concludes. "Where do we deploy from here..."

She frowns as she starts mulling over the information in her head.

Maybe we could spirit Cima away to help deal with the Axis assault on Side 3...
>>
>>34818632
>Other

Could we not get Cima's fleet to assist Side 3's government? I mean that would be our best solution for that problem. It means that Side 3 is pretty much safe from attack, because Delaxis Zeon don't have the ability to attack with full fleets against each target. But it means we've done something to protect Zeon, without seeming to "support" them.

Meanwhile we should probably wait for the inevitable colony drop.
>>
>>34818725
Cima, to the outside world, is still supporting Delaz, and would be a bit difficult to contact at the moment without tipping Delaz off.

For her own duplicity to pay off, she needs to be left alone until the right moment: namely when she has the Delaz fleet bracketed between her ships and the main EFSF fleet.
>>
>>34818632
"Leave the most heavily damaged and damaged ships in orbit to receive repairs. After doing so, send them to secure the Solar Ray and secure Earth Orbit. As it stands, we have no means of stopping another drop."

"Send your most levelheaded and defense minded subordinate to secure Side 3. Issue the order to evacuate the colonies civilians now while we still have the chance. We can't take any chances."

"Have the Albion retrieve the Dendrobrium. We're going to need it. My CO could use a GM Custom encase things get bad enough - which I am betting they will - to pilot."

"My team will head for Cima. We'll put this new ship through her paces and give Delaz what's coming. One ship will draw less attention than a fleet."

You'll have a chance to give input on what other assets may end up doing, but for now just focus on your own ship.

And lecturing an Admiral about how to deploy units that aren't under his direct command seems awfully presumptuous.
>>
>>34818632

Just take our ship, so it doesn't seem like we're committing too many forces, but at the same time showing Zeon remnants that they're being looked after by the Black Star and Lady Haman (Haman's already done her tour of side 3 hasn't she?)

Karen nods in agreement. "It sounds like a fair enough plan. With your permission, of course, Admiral."

Kowen quickly agrees. "I'll leave the security of Side 3 in your hands," he tells you. "But remember, your mission will be politically sensitive. Be sure to say Shepard's prayer before bed."

"Will do, sir."

Now, Captain Synapse glowers at the screen. "I assume you'll be wanting to hold the Albion to respond to the possibility of a colony drop on Earth."

>>34819156
In this case, there really are only two good options: going to Side 3 is good-ish, but leaving someone else to stop the colony drop on Earth is a huge gamble.

Especially when we know that the Albion failed to stop the colony drop in canon.
>>
>>34819382
Technically Gihren's weapon was the Solar Ray Cannon. This is the Solar Array System, the EFF's version.
>>
>>34819390
Well, here the Federation fleet is actually better off than in the original universe, and Nina really has no reason to betray us at this point.
>>
>>34819390
Well the Albion is a bit better supported, since less of the fleet got destroyed, and Cima is still in play.

Besides does Delaz even have a decent pilot for the Neue Ziel now?
>>
>>34819390
Maybe. But we've got a stronger EFF presence, an Albion that already has the GP03 and isn't arriving late, and no Gato. They still could face a lot of problems, but they're in a better position than in cannon.
>>
>>34819390
>failed to stop it in canon

The best defense is a good offense. We're not gonna stop shit if our forces sit around with their thumb up their ass waiting for things to come to them. Refuel and take the fight to them. Prevent the Zekes from even getting near Earth.
>>
>>34819390
Considering only 1/4 were destroyed this time in comparison to 4/5 of the main fleet, theirs little chance of the colony drop being viable.
>>
>>34819444

KoH said Solar Ray... I assumed he meant the colony laser.... Gihren kind of wrecked any chance of it being reverted back to a normal Colony... All it needed was some more work on the capacitors...
>>
>>34819574
The colony drop happened because the fleet chased after the Moon drop and couldn't get back to the Earth drop in time. Which is explicitly stated to be what's happening here.

>>
>>34819583
The Solar Ray burnt itself out because it wasn't complete when Gihren used it to interrupt the peace talks. It's scrap metal. And since in canon the EFF's response to the colony drop was the Solar System and not the Solar Ray, I'm assuming the mention of the Solar Ray was a typo.
>>
>>34819607
Haha, I love Glemy, but at this point... he's 12 and in Axis.
>>
>>34819600
More specifically, it was because the fleet wasn't big enough to split its forces. This time it is. Kowen's got control over at least some of the ships to keep them in reserve. It won't be perfect, but it's better than we would have gotten.
>>
>>34819600
Its stated that some are going. Right now there are plenty of ships to cover both the moon and the earth without having to chase. So long as not every damn admiral goes to the moon.

This timeline has over three times more ships to use.
>>
>>34819574

You remain silent. After all, it's basically a sound plan.

"Very well. You and your crew will take charge of any colony drop aimed at Earth," Kowen tells Captain Synapse.

"South?" you add.

"Commander?"

"... good luck out there, old man."

South chuckles to himself. "I don't need luck, kiddo. I have something to look forward to. I'm not gonna bite it out here."

"You mean..."

South nods. "I got a letter from Sylvia."

"That's great news," you tell him. "But be careful telling people that. I'd hate to see you end up a war film cliche."

"Shit, you're right," South replies seriously. "I'm sure everything will go wrong between me and my estranged wife, because I'm terrible at managing personal relationships and I'm generally abrasive, and I leave the toilet seat up all the time."

"Better?" he asks.

You nod. "It's a start. Nice touch with the toilet seat."

"What about the La Vie en Rose?" Haman interrupts. "Defrah has the GP-03. It could be a real force multiplier."

"Noin is right," Audrey agrees. "We could make use of it."

"It's piloted by a civilian," Anderson points out, finally working up the courage to speak. "And it's operated by a private company. Even if that wasn't against regulations, wouldn't it look bad deploying them?"

"But who would we put behind the wheel?" Catrina counters. "Uraki? None of us have got the experience to fly the damn thing. Defrah's done it in combat already."

I know they broke it in canon with the 02, but does Zeon even have enough fissionable material for a warhead after the Feds finished disarming them.

They could turn a Zaku II into a walking nuke by disabling the reactor quench when the Minovsky bottle is ruptured...

Just as insurance. Out of character, it would be nice to have a defense against the Nuei Ziele showing up. In character, that thing is our trump card and it makes sense to add some reinforcements.
>>
>>34819916
Deploy the mobile armor with the Albion. Keep it in reserve as a trump card encase things get bad enough to need it.

The best time to use make it's appearance is when Zeon is fully committed to the attack and can't withdraw. It comes out of hiding and puts those dumb-fire rockets into Musai hulls or the particle cannon into the bow of the colony.

"What would look bad about a private company assisting the EFF in fending off a Terrorist plot to drop another Colony on the earth? Wouldn't a Colony drop be politically worse than Anaheim's Test Pilot fighting off an attempted Colony Drop? The unit doesn't have to be deployed unless it is required, so if there is no colony drop attempt, there is no reference to it... only a technical support ship assisting in the repair of the Albion..."

Because the show only ever mentions Puru 2 as a clone, and none of the other Puru's have a first name. It's never really explained, but she was more stable than the others (At least for a girl sent to war at 10 years old), whilst Puru 2 had headaches and general cyber-newtype problems.

I admit it's never really explained in the show, but the simple fact that they're clones implies they were based on someone.

It's the right name, though. Ple's name is a pun. At the time of Zeta Gundam's original airing there was a hentai manga magazine called "Lemon People" that specialized in lolicon. So as a joke they named the loli character "L People", or "Elpeo Ple".

With nothing further to discuss, Kowen and Synapse disconnect.

"So, what have we got at our disposal?" Karen asks, turning to your team's two new operators.

The older of the two, LtJg Miyu Takisawa, is the first to answer. "Ma'am. The Valkyrie's systems are pretty similar to the rest of the Pegasus class, with one notable difference: its anti-air capability is bolstered by several laser turrets."

"We also have a few more missile batteries," Ensign Anderson adds. "It could give us new tactical options if used properly."

"And what are we likely to be dealing with?" Karen presses, looking at Carya and Catherine.

"Standard deployment is one capital ship with several Musais... probably the Gwanzan in the lead," Catherine rattles off.

Carya nods. "Probably a mix of mobile weapons favoring Zaku II variants, but I wouldn't rule out a few tricks."

"A mobile armor based on the Zero-GR is likely," Haman adds wearily. "Seems like something Bernini would send on a mission like this."

Rossweisse, who has sat quietly next to you refusing to speak due to the presence of two new officers, finally voices her thoughts.

"Upgrades."

"That's right," Audrey agrees. "Emary? What's the status on those upgrades for the Lilium?"

"The Lilium II is more or less ready now," she admits. "Problem is getting the parts here. A Columbus class could meet us on the way to Side 3, but it would take an hour or two out of the day."

Karen shakes her head. "Would it be worth the time?"

"I don't know," Emary admits, "but getting a few missiles and bazooka rounds that could be controlled by psycommu could be worth it. It's your call."

Explanation from DW:G2 is that Puru 2's clone body just couldn't handle the newtype powers it held...

"Okay," Karen replies, "fair enough. You'll get your new toys. Just be sure to save a few to ram up Delaz's ass."

"Will do, Karen," you tell her with a salute.

With very little else to do, you tell your team to turn in for the evening. It's been a long, difficult, and traumatic day, and so finding Carya and Catrina already waiting for you when you reach your quarters is a sweet surprise.

"Hey. You seem tense," one or the other of them greets as their eyes flash a characteristic lavender. "Wanna let me help with that?" Her tone is one of mock innocence, and you can be fairly sure what she means by 'help'.

"Should we get the others?” you reply cockily. “I love a good audience."

“Be careful what you wish for, Romeo,” Carrina replies with an easy smile.

Today is November 11th, UC 0083. It's a good day to be you, albeit probably THE single hardest day to get yourself out of bed. Not just out of reluctance, but out of physical difficulty in escaping your sheets: the scents of three young women's individual perfumes mingle in your nose, mixed with the faint traces of the night's activities. It's warm here. Soothing. Reassuring. You feel like just knowing this feeling exists, that you can practically wrap yourself in the love shared between yourself and your closest companions, makes you a little stronger. Not by much, but tangibly so.

With a kiss, you manage to get Carya to stir.

“Come on,” you mutter. “We've got work to do.”

“Dammit,” she mutters, shifting her weight against you. “Sometimes I hate it when you're right. Haman...”

There's no immediate response.

“... Haman?”

Still no response from the snoozing redhead, though Rossweisse's eyes flick open.

“HAMAN!”

With a yelp of surprise, Haman rolls out of bed entirely and lands on the floor in a pile of linens. Rossweisse and the Sisters can't hold back their laughter.

“Oh, very funny,” Haman scowls as you chuckle as well before offering her a hand. Which she accepts, with no apparent hard feelings.

“I thought you'd never be joining us,” Audrey tells you as you watch the contents of a single Columbus class transport float in through the Valkyrie's hangar doors from behind a thick window.

“Hey,” Catrina replies, “you could always join in some time yourself. Who knows, you might even relax a bit. Go forbid you enjoy yourself.”

"Right," Audrey replies, turning her attention from the Catrina as she makes lewd gestures while Karen has her back turned. "I'll go down there right away."

"So this is the Psycommu system," the Doctor muses half to himself, looking over the pre-fabricated cockpit block. "Remarkable. Most remarkable."

"You made allowances for it, Doctor," Audrey reminds him. "Much of the new design is due to your original space allocation."

"I told you," he replies wearily, "keep that under wraps while I'm here. Also, hello Dominic, m'boy."

"What's up, Doc?"

"I see you've established quite a group of astonishing young women," he observes. "If only I were as young and charismatic as I used to be... wait, I'd be a pimply nerd again, and also an INTERN. Nevermind." The old man shivers.

"So we need to adjust the psycommu, right?" Haman asks, floating down into the hangar, now wearing her own flight suit.

"Indeed," the old Doctor replies. "Indeed, Miss Karn. I have my concerns that having two pilots in the cockpit may complicate matters, so I'd like to shake the Lilium-II's psycommu system down while its old cockpit block is removed."

There are actually some theoretical designs that use that idea. Put the engines in a separate ship ahead of the main body. "Let's start with the funnels," you tell the Doctor. "New systems and all that."

"Very well," he replies as you climb into the cockpit.

Inside you find it rather roomier than you're used to: panoramic cockpit panels that are dark from a lack of input, and a comfortable looking seat with a prominent drop several inches forward of the seatback. All of the major controls have been moved to the armrests on the pilot's half of the seat, where nonvital systems have been placed on the copilot's armrests. The display is forward of both seats, angled so the pilot and copilot can see the individual readouts. Surprisingly for something this high-tech, each dial and gauge has both a digital and an analogue equivalent.

You sit in the pilot's position, and find that the whole seat seems to have been designed just to fit your own body's contours. Then, with a moment's hesitation, Haman takes her own seat just in front of you, settling into your lap and leaning her head into your sternum.

"Comfy seat," she comments idly. "Beginning test."

"You're clear," Audrey announces.

With some focus, Haman quickly has the beam funnel lift up off the deck of the port hangar, and has it hover in zero-gravity for several seconds.

"You can try maneuvering it," Audrey offers. "You're clear of any obstacles."

Sure enough, Haman flips the remote weapon in place, turns a few slow circles, and moves it backwards and forwards.

"It's a little sluggish," she reports. "You can probably fine-tune it in short order."

"You want to give it a try, don't you?" she asks looking up at you from your lap. "I'll walk you through it."

"Focus on the funnel, stretch your senses..." she explains.

"Got it," you reply.

"... now demand it to respond. Try making it go up a few meters."

>63

"Well, it seems we've found something for you to work on," Haman offers as she takes control of the funnel back from you after you slam the thing into the hangar's ceiling.

"I'll be handling it in combat mostly, so you have plenty of time to refine your control," she finishes. "And here I thought you'd have trouble being forceful."

"It's not a relationship," you remind her testily. "And even if it were, it'd be no fun if the funnel got the best of me every time, would it?"

Haman's reply is merely to thump her head against your chest with a snort of laughter.

It takes a few more hours to finish putting the new cockpit block into the Lilium, before it can finally be officially recorded in the Valkyrie's records as the "Lilium-II Trial Type". By the time your ship reaches Lunar orbit, you receive word from Kowen.

"The 49 ships of the home fleet engaged the first colony," he growls. "We were right. It was a decoy. The second colony has accelerated towards Earth. Only the Albion, the La Vie en Rose, and the leftovers in Earth orbit stand in its way: and it's apparently met up with the balance of the Delaz Fleet."

"I thought you were trying to persuade the Admirals not to fall for the trap?" Karen asks incredulously. "Are they stupid?"

"Not all of them," Kowen admits. "Old Admiral Kirikov found an excuse to leave four of his fleet's ships with the 19 damaged ones still in Earth orbit. I hear the Blue Death is with them."

You whistle, briefly remembering how much more reasonable the old Admiral was when you interrupted Karen and Synapse's meeting with the Admiralty scarce few days ago. "Old man Kirikov came through."

"It'll be hard," Kowen admits, "but we stand a chance. Especially if Cima Garahau comes through."

"Now, Captain, Commander. How do you plan to attack the problem of the Axis Advance fleet?"

You remember discussing the issue with Karen earlier. You decided:

Even without the Hyper Gatling we still have pretty good capability against I-Fields. The shoulder cannons, grenade launchers, and psycho mines should handle them. And the Twin Hyper Rifles are our best anti-group weapon. Besides, we just got funnels. It's time for beamspam. Let's see if we can make Kira Yamato feel inadequate.
>>
>>34824240
If we're ambushing, then the hyper rifles are out. The gatling is too heavy.

Outfit our suit with a grenade launcher from Rosse's loadout. Aim specifically for the Musai's. In and out. Audrey and Rosse can cover us with a solid slug rifle and the hyper rifle respectively. The Twins can cover us with the gatling and shred any suits that interfere with our shreking on everyones day.

You could, but it would take some time, would waste the Val Varo, and wouldn't be nearly as powerful as a ship's reactor going nuclear. Also, the fleet will be in a combat line rather than a parade line, meaning they won't be as tightly packed.

I guess we could pre-position some of the Psycho Mines, put them on stand-by, and then spring them when the enemy fleet wanders into a kill-zone where we'll be dictating the battle.

>>
>>34824605
Mounting your trusty Hyper Rifles and a Psycho Launcher to your suit, you can see that others have selected a nice range of high-quality death machines: Audrey has taken a Psycho Launcher and her new, experimental multi-mode blade rifle. The Sisters smile and wave as they ride up towards the Viola's cockpit with their beam machine gun suspended from a gantry, and you spot that they've mounted not one but TWO of the heavily modified bazookas. Rossweisse, however, has really gone for broke: two unguided panzer fausts in racks on the legs, two grenade launchers on the back of her Kampfer's waist, and a pair of shotguns on its back racks.

"I'll set us down here," Karen announces over the Lilium-II's radio as Haman settles once more into your lap. You feel a slight jolt as the Valkyrie's ventral hull makes contact with the outside of the colony, ideally hiding it against the much larger sensor target.

"The attacking fleet is several clicks out," she adds. "Looks like nine large blips."

So how do you want to execute the ambush?

Send two of our suits as a decoy. Have it fly around the colony, take a couple long range pot shots, coring a Musai or striking a Zaku, then retreat behind the colony shadow. They'll launch mobile suits in retaliation and we can pick them off when they zoom around the colony's horizon.

Send the VV around the opposite side to act as a fire support platform when enemy suits are away to take out more Musais and Zanzibars.
>>
>>34824748
Putting an I-Field on a MS still doesn't cover the ship's biggest weakness, Mobile Suits.
We're in an age where armour is meaningless, MS's can pack beam weapons as strong as a battleship, and automated targeting doesn't exist. Agility is the gotstat right now, and MS's have the supreme advantage of having AMBAC. Many of the guns a battleship caries are anti-capital ship weapons, which aren't useful against things way more agile, and still have the firepower to take you down.

That I-Field and armour are useless if a GMdom gets in close range and uses a Psycho-launcher/Beam Sabre/Beam Rifle.

Ships should be used as mobile carriers and support platforms, the fact the federation cling to their old WWI battleships in spess just shows how their souls are held down by Earth's gravity.

>>
>>34824978
That makes sense. An I-Field would help, but not enough to be worth installing. And the beam shield on the Mother Vangaurd does, because beam shields vaporize any solid matter that touches them, making it impossible for a mobile suit to get near enough.
>>
>>34824978
>ships should be used as mobile carriers and support platforms

Hence the reason I wanted the Trafalgar. Actually, we probably CAN still get it. Since one-fourth of the fleet was caught up in atomic fire, it won't be mothballed now. So there's our fleet carrier right now.

"On it, Dom."

"What do you see?" Audrey asks you through a contact link.

"Eight Musais, one Gwanban class ship. It's like Catherine said," Haman explains, trying to relate what her mind has "seen" through the funnels' cameras.

"Have they launched their mobile suits?" Karen asks through a laser burst.

"One machine is out... it's a mobile armor. It looks like the Zero GR, but it moves faster," Haman mutters. "The other mobile suits are all in their Musais."

“Haman, withdraw the funnels,” you tell her. “Get ready for psycho mines. I want that Gwanban neutralized before it can launch its suits.”

“Firing on my mark in three. Two. One. Mark.”

Eight thumps shake your mobile suit as the psycho-mines are propelled forward by a quick burst of thrust each, and Haman immediately takes over while you reload for a second volley if needed.

“Shit,” she mutters, and you can feel some alarm: something isn't right with her control over the mines.

“There's too many,” she tells you. “Can you take eight or ten of them?”

"Sure, I'll give it a try," you offer as Haman mentally relinquishes control of the mines. How hard could it be? I mean, sure you fucked it up before, but that was just a practice round. Warm up.

Giving it the good-old college try, or what you'd assume that would look like given that you never went to college, you propel several of the psycho-mines at the Gwanban, and do some serious damage. The hangar doors disappear, and you even manage to disable a turret or two. Your last two rounds hit the observation bridge, though based on the way the ship responds you assume the captain and bridge crew were in the battle bridge at the time.

"That was good and all," Haman tells you, honestly impressed at your progress, "but I've seen better."

Not to be outdone, Haman flies several mines, one after the other, straight through the now-open hangars, gutting the Gwanban from her stem towards her stern. The mobile suits inside are the first to go, all except one which manages to dive through a hole in the side of the hull. Then, with each blast, Haman buns her way into the heart of the ship, killing its power source.

For good measure, she puts the last psycho-mine into the bridge of a Musai. Just to make a point.

The colony has now rotated so that the oncoming fleet is in view. It's closed fairly fast, with most of the ships having spun up to flank speed after losing their flagship. Dozens of mobile suits pour out of their cruisers, along with the massive mobile armor and the escaped suit from the doomed Gwanban.

You have a few options:

You draw a bead on the black suit and let your visor drop. Unfortunately it's moving too quick at too far a range to get a solid lock, so you hold back for now and let your sensors adjust the shot a little.

Audrey has similar problems. "Switching to beam," she announces. "No tone."

Catrina has no issues whatsoever pouring fire into a Zaku at extreme range, but something shakes both you and her focus. "The black machine's piloted by a Newtype!" she announces. "But it's weird, she doesn't seem normal. Something's not right!"

Rossweisse's grenades are more miss than hit at this range and she knows it. She tries to get a clean shot, but understandable has difficulty in doing so.

Meanwhile, the black unit sends out several small remote weapons, which dart forward towards your team. The Musais take up a position, but hold their fire: you reckon they don't want to blast the whole colony cylinder.

"Count 19 Zakus," Noel reports. "Four Gelgoogs too, plus the one-off machines. Tagging their locations and plotting courses."

"They're heading for the airlock," Karen responds. "They're going to go inside the cylinder!"

In retaliation, Haman slams some of her mines into the Mobile Armor, damaging it heavily. She also takes out a Gelgoog, leaving her with three mines to spare.

Have Rossweisse switch to bombarding the MA in support of Haman. It's a big target anyway, so even proximity explosions would give it trouble.
Once the explosives are expended, switch to close combat with the incoming Zakus.

CC and/or Dom should try to cut off the Tusche Schwarz from helping out the mooks, but otherwise one of them should be in charge of the Gelgoogs.

Haman shouts at you. "This should drop the MA's shields, go for it!"

Several of her mines are shot down, but a few strike home, and a blast from your Twin Hyper Rifle reduces the mobile armor to a smouldering, sparking wreck.

Your team opens up on the advancing mobile suits, and Catrina nails a Gelgoog. Audrey and Rossweisse both hold their fire, having again failed to lock on, but thankfully for Rossweisse half the remaining Zakus break off and approach your team: nine in total.

"Rossweisse!" you alert the quiet young Newtype.

"Dom?"

"You're going for a ride! Miyu, open the port hangar door!"

"Roger that, Commander," Takisawa replies, "door open."

"Haman, you'll be getting Rossweisee over there in style, you get me?"

Haman nods. "Switching focus to Val Varo, systems responding. We're good to go."

Meanwhile, fire begins to lance towards your position. The Valkyrie keeps its own fire up, but doesn't hit anything.

>Valk still failing to hit

Can we remove the particle cannons and turn them into open bunkers for mobile suits to stand in and shoot?
>>
>>34826985

Its not easy to hit small mobile targets with large guns when minosky particles are at battle density.
>>
>>34826907
One of the Zakus targets the Valkyrie, and hits it with a rocket that damages her port engine. A second rocket misses entirely, while the combined weight of so many vulcans and 110mm cannons shreds the third.

Suddenly, the thought occurs to you that the Tusche Scwarz launched its funnels, but never attacked you with them.

Several of your teammates seem to realize the same thing at that moment.

"They may be finding another way in," Carya quickly theorizes.

"There!" you shout, lighting up an access hatch several hundred meters away and slightly up-spin. "They're going to go in through that hatch!"

Meanwhile, Rossweisse focuses on boarding the Val Varo, and your team's attention is divided between the oncoming 8 Zakus and the rapidly escaping group of MS beyond them.

Beam rifles would have the ships guns run off of E-pacs and thus would have limited ammo. Normal beam weaponry runs off of the reactor to build up mega-particles.

I'd kinda like a way to create point-defence beam machine guns, though. Anti-MS defences should be a high priority on ships.

>>
>>34827293

Aw man.

Thanks for running, how are we doing in this fight? How badly damaged is the Valk?
>>
>>34827254
Nope. The beam sniper rifle runs off of generator power. It's too energy intensive for E-caps. The original GM Sniper couldn't even run it off its own generator, it had to get a support truck. It also provided coolant, as I recall, to keep the GM from overheating and exploding. The GM Sniper II could use it unaided, though.

Really? They're Rick Doms aren't that bad, and are better than the zaku's that make up the bulk of the enemy MS force. Also, Chivvay Kai's are probably the best grunt ship currently in existence right now, and make up near the entirety of the republic fleet.

What about the Zudah?
>>
>>34828368
The Zudah is a failed prototype, if they actually made it workable, it'd kick the Zaku's ass.

Using the Zudah to defend the Zaku is like trying to defend the Dopp with one of Da Vinci's corkscrew helicoptors.
>>
>>34828368
>>34828481
In fact, in both Bright Quest and Zabi Quest, where they actually solved the Zudah's exploding problem, it throughly kicked the Zaku's ass.
Zabi quest was hilarious, because it ignored the Zaku entirely, and only used the Zudah in limited production to instead focus on The Tieren and the Leo.
