@QMKingofHearts.

Today is December 4th, UC 0083. You are Commander Dominic O'Hara, Earth Federation Space Forces, squadron leader for the mobile weapon forces aboard the SCV-82 Valkyrie. At the moment, you and yours are sitting at a booth in a southern California Denny's, where you've been approached by a man calling himself Bask Om. Everything about him rubs you ever-so-slightly in the wrong way: his Disney-villain voice, his squareish face and disturbing lack of neck, and most of all those goddamned goggles. Seriously, it's like he's trying to carry off a Pitch Black look and failing miserably.

“So what do you want, Riddick?” you ask, doing your best impression of Vin Diesel from when he was still relevant... and alive.

Unsurprisingly, Catrina snickers as she gets the joke: she's probably been thinking the same thing since Om first strolled in. More unusual, Karen chuckles to herself as well. You never pinned her as the type to appreciate pre-colonial cult sci-fi flicks, but then again you were just as surprised yesterday when you found out Reiko collects those little trading cards with famous mobile suit pilots on them you get in packs of chewing gum. More unusually, that she has a foil one of you in her quarters that shares a plastic sleeve with one of Amuro Ray. So really, you figure nothing should surprise you anymore.

Bask Om, however, either doesn't get the reference or doesn't care. “I've been sent here by my benefactor, Commodore Hymem, to introduce you to a wonderful organization we are founding called Titans.”

Haman, who couldn't help but snicker at the Commodore's name, is the first to respond. “And what, may we ask, is the point of this 'Titans' group of yours?”
(1/3)

>>34978746
“I mean to address your superiors, Ensign,” Om replies with a frown.

“And what, may we ask, is the point of this 'Titans' group of yours?” Karen repeats loudly, glaring daggers and drawing confused looks from the other Denny's patrons.

“It will be an offensive counterinsurgency and counter-terror unit,” he explains coolly, “with greater political independence and better funding than Federation Special Operations could ever dream of.”

“So you intend to pay us more, is what you're trying to say,” Carya translates. “And not just in money, but in authority.”

“A blunt way to phrase it, but essentially. Yes.”

You shovel a forkload of pancake into your mouth and chew in silence, making Om wait before you speak your mind. “Why us?” you finally ask.

Om, who seems somewhat put off that you've made him wait so long for two words, turns to face you. “We've approached all of the units which distinguished themselves in the recent... incident. Lieutenant Burning took a position at the Woomera Range as an instructor, and Lieutenant Uraki took his promotion and followed Burning. He's now chief of base security there.” You know that already: supposedly Nina went with them as well as Anaheim's representative at the proving grounds there. “The other members of the Immortal Fourth joined us, as did Kajima. We've also got the Killer First to join, and sadly miss Kar will be spending the next eleven months in recovery... which leaves the Valkyrie.”

“And the benefits would be?” Karen presses.

Om nods. “A two-rank virtual promotion for each member of your team, and commissions for those bridge crew who are currently enlisted. You'll also be given access to the latest equipment for the purposes of evaluation, and will have near unlimited tactical authority.”
(2/3)
>>
>>34978793
“And our machine roster?” Audrey asks. “We tend to make unannounced upgrades and refits. We would need unconditional permission to alter our MS compliment in the field.”

“That could be arranged.”

Karen sits for several long seconds, thinking to herself in silence. “We'll discuss the matter as a unit. I'll get back to you when we've reached an agreement.”

“That won't be necessary,” Om tells you with a dismissive wave of his hand. “All you need to do is report to the recruitment depot in San Diego and explain to our representative there who you are and what your intention is. Then you'll be given orders to report to Londenion so the Valkyrie may be overhauled and refit with new mobile suits. I would also advise you decide on a team name... 18th Special Operations Group doesn't have a ring at all.”

When Bask Om finally leaves, Karen breaths a sigh of relief. “Okay,” she mutters, “is it just me, or is that guy a fucking grade-A creep?”

I'd just like to point out that the Trafalgar class and the Pegasus class have roughly the same space for storage.
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/34702819/#p34707801
>Your alternative would be the Valkyrie: a third-flight Pegasus class that's yet to be commissioned. She'd be brand new, and would have similar space
The decision was apprently an obsolete ship with a prexisting crew immediately, or waiting a bit for a superior ship with a rookie crew. IIRC we just transferred a bunch of the crew from the Trafalgar class to the Valkryie, since it was going to be decomissioned, anyways.
Seems like we made the best of both worlds.

>Listen to everyone else's reasoning first

The way I see it, even if its a little metagamey is either we join the Titans, manipulate them from within to be better than they are in the canon or rip them apart from the inside when it starts hitting the fan.

Alternatively we can not join and possibly join one of the many factions that will be working against the Titans like the newly reinforced Republic of Zeon.

This is all assuming the Titans are going to be grade A assholes like in canon.

So, Hearts made this Twitter post:
>Planning plot/tech advancements for 0084. So far you can look forward to: Α, Δ, γ, Ζ, 'Dragonfly', 'Red Snake', 'Ramiel'.

Anyone's thoughts on what they're going to be? Δ, γ, Ζ are all the designations of suits made by Anaheim in canon, so they might be them. "Red Snake" is the code name of a Zeta derivative intended for Newtype use, seen in Gundam Evolve, so it might be that. No idea what A, "Dragonfly" or "Ramiel" would be.
>>
>>34978820
>Listen to everyone else's reasoning first

Frankly i believe joining them can only go wrong, but we don't really know the full extent of this force at the moment, unlike canon, there's more military around, so their power reach may not be quite so long.
>>
>>34978912
>The way I see it, even if its a little metagamey is either we join the Titans, manipulate them from within to be better than they are in the canon or rip them apart from the inside when it starts hitting the fan.
The way I see it, just because this guy is a bit creepy, doesn't mean that we shouldn't join. Remember that one of the reasons that the fleet got hit so hard was that Admiral Fuckwad decided to ignore our warnings.

That said, if his group turns out to not be above the level, we take as much shit as we can before we leave. It's stated goal as "offensive counterinsurgency and counter-terror unit" is quite reasonable, since we're pretty much doing it already, we shouldn't disregard them because their recruiter is a bit of a dick. I mean hell, we're working for the feds and one of their admirals was a *colossal* dick.

Actually turning Bask down seems because the Titans are evil is pretty metagame-y. Hopefully Dom can bring some reasonableness to this new group.

Axis is on the move, We may have beaten back their vanguard, but we have yet to even see their main forces... The tactical freedom we could obtain via the Titans group, would allow us to more readily react to, and counter any offensive planned by Axis, Not to mention how much easier it will be to keep in contact with Cima and the sensible remnants of the Mars Zeon Advance Forces...

Also, Keep your friends close... and Yazan on the other side of the Earth Sphere...

“Kind of sad about Defrah,” Reiko comments.

You shake your head and laugh. “Nah. We'll meet up with her in eleven days.”

“Days?” Catherine asks.

“She's a Trekkie, and she's lazy,” you explain. “So she exaggerated. Months instead of days.”

“Wish I'd thought of that years ago,” Carya mutters bitterly.

“I'm not sure why, but I hate this setup,” Karen sighs. “I'm staying with you all regardless of what we decide though.”

Audrey seems a bit more positive. “It'd be a chance to shape the organization from the inside,” she explains. “If we want it to be a good thing, we should be the ones MAKING it a good thing.”

“An organization like this will attract the worst of the Federation,” Haman counters. “All they'll end up caring about is power... but their power could also be ours. Working with them for now allows us to pursue our own agendas for as long as that association remains tolerable.”

Rossweisse frowns, resting her chin on the table. “I'm not going back,” she says quietly.

“True, if we're more independent there's less of a chance of Rosse being reassigned to the Newtype labs,” you agree.

“Or rather, there's less a chance that one of us would have to go on a fragging spree to prevent it,” Catrina adds.

“Also true.”

“I can't believe they had a hand in Operation Stardust,” Noel mutters. “But I suppose I'll have to see the answer for myself. I'm with you, Dominic, Captain. Whatever you decide.”

Catherine seems of a mind with Karen. “That Bask guy gives me the creeps... but then again, the goal of Titans seems noble enough. Maybe it'll turn out okay?”

“I don't know,” Miyu admits. “I just don't know.”

“If it turns out okay, we'd be making it even better by joining...” Carya muses.

Catrina's eyes flash red as she adds the inevitable 'but'.

I also support the intention of joining the Titans (sexy uniforms when!?) and doing what must be done if they start going a little crazy with their oppression and genocide.
>>
>>34979081
My only worry would be that we'd get handed over to Newtype research. We already stole Rossweisse from one of the Titans' labs, joining up with them could end badly. Especially if they decide they want to figure out what Carya and Catrina are.

>>34979127
Thanks for explaining more. I realized after I posted it that "Newtype use" is a redundant descriptor to give to a Zeta-derivative, since the base suit is already equipped with a biosensor. Good job on filling in the details.
>>
>>34979162
“... but if it all goes to hell, it positions us well to take out the Titans leadership ourselves and minimize the damage.”

Your Zeon captive, Ilia Pazom, remains silent, though she's quietly nervous at this change in events.

“You okay?” Carya asks her, noticing her discomfort.

She shakes her head. “You'll be facing my former comrades: I have no incentive to help, and you have no reason to trust me. But I can't help being nervous about becoming the responsibility of these “Titans”.”

>What say you? It seems people in your squad are leaning Titans, if for no other reason than the possibility of shutting them down yourselves later

We clearly need to take one of the Newtype labs for ourselves, get them working on that mind-broken Axis Test Pilot who we captured. See if we can't get some form of research from what they did to her while they try to give her some semblance of a life back...
>>
>>34979378
Axis Test Pilot and Ilia Pazom who are the other two?
>>
>>34979455
Oh, I thought you meant Zeons, not Zeon citizens. I was referring to the Republic, Axis, and the various Zeon Remnants (sadly, not all of them joined Delaz. There are others out there). But if you're going by members of Zeon, we've also got Catherine Blitzen and Rebecca Fanning.
>>
>>34979188

Let's go Titans, then. If everything goes to hell in a basket and they end up as corrupt as they do in Zeta, we can just desert. We'd have to if we refuse, anyway, considering the Titans also end up in charge or at least heavily involved with the Newtype labs if left unchecked, if we're going by canon. And then they'll want every test subject they can get their hands on, failed or not.
>>
>>34979517
O no I meant our POW.

>Riddick

Thank you for using my suggestion.
>>
>>34979549

Forgot to add, if we do desert, we might want to have an out. So either wait until they start the AEUG, or side with the not-retarded part of Zeon.

Or wait until Char-- I mean Ridden, makes his bid for leadership, and then support him.

That's about all the ways I can think of making it through the following political climate.
>>
>>34979584
Yeah Catharine great! Right?
>>
>>34979597
No I do not what us to join Zeon.
>>
>>34979659

I'm not saying we join the evil mustache-twirlingly evil part of Zeon, the one Bernin-- bernen-- Panini. The one Panini is running. We don't join that one, but should it come to having to join a Zeon, we pick the faction split that isn't that one.
>>
>>34979188
"So it seems we're pretty much agreed," you conclude. "Join Titans... for now, at least. But if things turn sour, we defect."

Karen nods. "Seems pretty risky, joining a group we're planning to defect from, but it seems like the best of several bad options. I'll authorize it."

"Don't worry," you reassure Pazom, placing a hand on her shoulder. "You'll remain our prisoner. You won't be free, but better the devil you know, right?"

Pazom sighs in relief. "I'll hold you to it, Commander."

Your team stays around at the Denny's long enough to pay the bill before returning to the Valkyrie to inform your new crew of the change in affiliation from EFSF to Titans. Among your crew, however, there are three people who deserve a more personal explanation: Emary Ounce, your new Assistant Chief Engineer, Sayla Mass, ship's physician, and Doctor Jay Null, who's been 'incognito' aboard your new ship for some time now.

"So, I assume you heard the announcement, Doctor?" you ask as Ward joins you.

The old man sighs, frustrated that you've refused to play along with his spygames. "Yes, I heard, young man. I think I speak for all three of us when I tell you you've got some explaining to do."

"Leave me out of it, you old coot," Emary mutters.

"We're not happy about it either," you explain. "But we haven't got much choice now, do we? Sticking with them now is the safe play, and it lets us monitor their activities."

"You're sure it has nothing to do with the pay?"

"None whatsoever," you swear. "And if it all goes to hell we can still probably join the Republic. Cima would put in a good word."

At the mention of the newly resurgent Republican forces, Sayla seems uneasy.

We can guess without asking her directly. Official story is that Sayla is Don Teablo Mass' daughter, and he was known to have significant dealings with Zeon(both the man and the country) before the war. Dom could infer that she knows some people in the Republic that she's worried about. Anything more than that she's unlikely to tell us even if we roll well, so I'd rather not bother.

As for who we bring, I vote for "guns". Lots of them. Just in case.

“Is something wrong?” you ask Sayla innocently. “Penny for your thoughts?”

“Hm? Oh, sorry,” she apologizes. “It's nothing, really...”

Your stare forces her to relent. “It's just that Zeon rearming itself brings back memories.”

“You served on the White Base,” you think to yourself aloud, “so you probably faced the Red Bolt, Usain Aznable, fairly often?”

“That's... not what his name was, but yes. We faced Char Aznable many times.”

Noting a strange sentiment there, you press on. “Sounds like you almost remember him fondly... like a brother.”

Unexpectedly, the mention of the word “brother” sends a jolt through the young woman. She quickly tries to hide the fact that you've startled her, to no avail. Now that you think of it, you can really see the resemblance. It's mostly in the chin, and in their hair.

“Your secret is safe here, Miss Mass,” you tell her. “As is your brother's. You have my word. But instead of trying to hide things from me, I'd hope next time you'll open up a bit.”

Again, you sense some unease. “You're still hiding something?” you ask.

“... yes,” she admits. “But it's not something I want to discuss... I'm sorry. It'd put my brother and I in too bad a position if anyone else knew.”

>Later that day...
The recruitment depot's main office is busier than you'd expected: at the front desk you see a tall, trim Asian Lieutenant arguing with the receptionist over paint schemes. He's got a shaved head and no facial hair, with a mole under his left eye, and he's wearing sunglasses despite being inside. With him stands a sleek-haired junior Lieutenant with a similar complexion, who seems to be trying to smooth over any friction caused by his superior. Another junior officer sits nearby: an unkempt-looking man who spins a pen between his fingers as he reads over a manifest of some sort. Next to him sits a fair-skinned Ensign with short hair, a neatly trimmed beard, and angular, half-framed glasses. The Ensign has headphones on, and is currently banging his head gently to loud rocks only he can hear.

“The Killer First?” Audrey asks, nodding in their direction. Karen nods in confirmation.

Also in the room are several officers in Titans uniforms: two Lieutenants and an Ensign, who stand near an EFSF regular officer. Only the male Lieutenant, a slightly heavy-set man, looks to be much older than you or the Sisters. He seems preoccupied with something, though the stern-faced regular seems like she's in charge here. The Ensign looks like a little shit, with his blonde hair pushed up in something resembling a pompadour. You can see he's looking at Haman with some interest. The last Titans officer's green eyes catch yours for a second, and she gives you a curt nod of acknowledgment.

In one corner, you also spot a young boy sitting quietly on a couch. He looks to be about the same age you were when you first strapped into a mobile suit.

Karen pulls a ticket from a nearby machine, and your team takes over some of the benches in preparation for a long wait: right now it's just you, Karen, Reiko, Audrey, the Sisters, Haman, and Rossweisse, as nobody else really needs to be here.

"Hey, Audrey?" you ask loudly.

"Yeah, Dominic?"

"Let's go for a walk," you offer. "You seem almost as bored as I am."

The Lieutenant suddenly flips off the chair and onto her feet, clearly desperate to do something. "You're not bringing one of your girlfriends?"

"We see each other plenty," you tell her. "The two of us, on the other hand, don't hang out as much as we should."

"True enough."

Ignoring the Killer First for now and setting a brisk pace towards the Titans officers, you notice them salute you as you close... except the blonde kid with the big hair.

"I take it you're running the show?" you ask the stern-looking woman. "Any chance you could expedite the process at all?"

"Lieutenant Rira," she tells you stiffly. "And no, I can't expedite the process at all... namely because the simulator is finally ready for your team, Commander."

"I see we were expected. And the rest of you?"

The large Titans Lieutenant salutes again. "Cacooler, sir. I'm here scouting talent, as it were. Picking up two likely pilots."

The green-eyed woman is next to salute you. "A pleasure, sir. I'm Lieutenant Junior-Grade Sheen. And... you are?" she asks, looking at Audrey interestedly.

Audrey returns the salute. "Audrey April, Lieutenant, 18th MS."

"Ah, the techncial expert," Lieutenant Sheen replies. "I've had the chance to see your work first hand on a modified GM QUEL. First-rate design on those boosters."

"The first ones were made out of scraps and nearly killed Dominic here," Audrey admits, "but I appreciate the sentiment."

"It wasn't THAT bad," you tell her. "Just a little spinny, you know?" With one finger you trace a few circles through the air, simulating the arc of the Lilium as it spun out of control during the trial run of the shield boosters.

"Like that, but full-body, and faster, and in space, and with thousands of pounds of rocket fuel under my butt."

The Lieutenants each try and stifle a snort of laughter with varying degrees of success. "Sounds like fun," Rira tells you.

The Ensign still seems more interested in Haman than your stories, and briefly introduces himself. "Jerid Messa," he tells you. "Who is that over there, with the red hair?"

"A member of my team," you tell him as Rira walks over to let your team know the simulation chamber is ready.

First up is Haman, who climbs into the chamber and closes the hatch.

"The simulation replicates the interior of the GM QUEL," Cacooler explains to you. "It spawns ten Zakus with varying loadouts, and a trainee is meant to see how many..."

"Done," Haman reports from inside the mock-up cockpit. "I'm ready for the test now."

Lieutenant Rira stares at the chamber aghast as she keys the mic. "That... was... the test..."

"I know that," Haman replies. "And frankly? It was pathetic."

"Twenty-seven seconds," Cacooler tells you, his face pale as a sheet. "That's inside the margin of error. It's literally impossible to compare that result to anything else..."

Jerid Messa finally seems to have been impressed by something. "It took me five and a half minutes, and I only got eight."

"Yeah, well you kind of suck," Lieutenant Rira tells him, her eyes still fixed on Haman as she steps out of the machine and gives you a wave.

>>34981689
It might be. Kamille was 17 in Zeta, and this is three years before then. Dom had just turned 16 when he started piloting, so if Kamille was an early bloomer he could look roughly that age. I got confused for a college student once when I was 14, it's not impossible that Dom's reading his age wrong.
>>
>>34981756

Yeah, but I was wondering because KOH mentioned him being about the same age as Dom was when he first got into an MS. That'd mean the ages wouldn't match up, unless our year of dicking around with canon somehow retroactively made Kamille get born several years earlier.

With a little flourish, you seat yourself in the mockup cockpit. The controls are different, but workable, with nothing located in too far-fetched a place on your consoles.

"It may take some getting used-to sir," Rira tells you over the intercom. "So just tell me when you're..."

"Let's go," you tell her. "I'm ready."

... and go down almost as quickly as they can spawn. The GM QUEL doesn't seem to want to move quite like your own machine, but the attitude control is enough to keep up with the simple, tame movements of the simulated Zakus. You sense utter shock from the Oldtypes watching your performance, along with some mild annoyance from Haman and immense distress from Ensign Messa.

"Rounds complete," you inform your supervisor after a mere seventeen seconds. "All hostiles are down."

You then step out to find Karen nervously eying the Titans officers from across the room... probably because Ensign Messa is staring ashen-faced at the nearest wall. None of your future Titans colleagues even have words for what they just saw, though Lieutenant Sheen manages a heartfelt salute, which the others follow.

"At least you got shot down quickly that time," you tell Messa before returning to the rest of your team.

It takes Carya and Catrina twenty-eight seconds to complete their test thanks to two of their Zakus splitting in exactly opposite directions, making it take a little longer to hit them all, and Rossweisse takes just twenty-five.

Impressively, it takes Audrey a mere thirty-three seconds to down her ten Zakus.

"They were using textbook maneuvers," she explains, "so they weren't all that tough to hit."

"Seventeen seconds?" you ask Haman incredulously. "The hell did you say to that poor guy in seventeen seconds?"

"Nothing that wasn't true," she replies simply, rubbing her shoulder against your arm.

Lieutenant Rira is completely stunned. "And I thought the thirteen year old who beat it in less than three minutes was impressive..."

Suddenly, the kid over on the couch stands up and walks over to your group.

"I want to try," he announces. "Come on, my dad won't be back for like another hour. It's okay, right?"

Rira looks over at Karen. "You're the senior officer here."

Karen looks at you pleadingly. "You usually make the decisions here."

"Isn't yours by default?" Catrina retorts, prompting a snicker from Haman.

Reiko shakes her head. "It's from an old unisex name in French, actually."

"The more you know," you reply loudly. "So, any bets that he beats it?"

"I'll take that action," Rira replies immediately. "Five bucks?"

"I'll make it ten, Commander," Sheen adds, much to her own apparent surprise.

"Dominic," you reply, "and you've got a bet."

"Emma," the green-eyed Titan replies, offering a handshake.

"Lila," the regular Lieutenant offers her hand in turn.

Three and a half minutes later, Lila announces that the simulation is over.

"Ha!" Messa laughs. "Only three minutes, what a joke. How many shootdowns did he get?"

"Ten," Lila tells him honestly.

It takes no time at all to tell what's wrong with the Valkyrie here. "There's only one hangar!"

"Exactly," Haman tells you. "They're cutting our MS compliment in half, ostensibly to improve the line of sight for the much greater number of cannons and AA turrets."

"Is there room for the Val Varo?" you ask nervously.

"Barely," Rossweisse replies.

"... the problem is that mobile suits come in teams of four," Audrey explains, "and I doubt Titans will leave empty space aboard a ship for very long."

"They may end up trying to split some of us off by assigning us a full support team we have no room for," Haman finishes.

You blink once. "... which two of you?"

"Me and Audrey," Rossweisse replies quietly.

"We have no ability to use remote weapons," Audrey explains. "We've been falling behind in terms of ability, so it'd make sense that we'd be the ones reassigned."

>>34984370
You could have. The only ones I mentioned being off limits were Lila Milla Rira and Kamille.

You could still requisition her, if as nothing else but a stopgap measure against Titans pulling dickery.
>>
>>34984377
Pretty much.

Besides, our strength so far lied in the suits themselves (which are still AE, so we might get Nina to help us out here) and using psycomines. And Audrey's engineering.

Maybe we can get Karen to sign a protest claiming how this new remodeling will not only lower our performance, but also put us out of commission for a while?
>>
>>34984412
They are not take Rossweisse and Audrey!
>>
>>34984454
>You have space for six mobile suits post-refit. Mobile suits come in teams of four.
Okay, then, let's just put the Val Varo in there. We can cite it's importance during our last battle if they question our use of the space.
>>
>>34984436
To be clear, the refit gives you 8 mega particle cannons and 18 laser AA turrets.

It's designed to seem perfectly reasonable on the surface, and really would improve performance of your AA/Anti-Shipping capabilities. It's just it comes with an ulterior motive.

>Giving you an extra 10 minutes to come up with something approaching a plan
>>
>>34984436
Hell we can cite *every* single engagement our unit's had, pretty much ZERO of our sucess has come down to ship-board MPC's and have relied instead on MS's and MA's. Fuck we can publish a treatise on the effectiveness and necessity of Mobile Weapons in Combat.

>>34984454
This too, our unit specilses in high-spec MS combat, limiting our MS compliment is kinda defeating the point of our fucking unit.

>>34984454
I say go for it, she's the chillest person there we could recruit. Also her honesty is going to get her killed in this nest of fucking vipers.
>>
>>34984531
Can the girl's give us their ideas on a plan as well?
>>
>>34984531

To bug our ship completely.
>>
>>34984531
I've got nothing better other than going with the supposed goddamn liberty we're supposed to have. Citing combat data showing Battleship guns are useless compared to MS should be good.

If they want to split us up I'm willing to go full on batshit run from the federation.
>>
>>34984539
We should argue against the MPC's. AA is useful, but we should point out that our unit has had ZERO usage for MPC's on ships. Then we cite the casualty rate of the Magellan and the OYW.

Battleships are bad doctrine, I say we should write a paper stating that conventional warships are obsolete, and argue in favour of dedicated carriers. Cite the success of White Base, and the success of Aircraft Carriers pre-UC.
>>
>>34984531

Of course, this gets us away from politics or the frontline somewhat.

However, it grants us plenty of cool toys to steal and defect with.
>>
What is up with the Federation's obsession with Battleships. They're fucking garbage, but they always try to make as many of them as possible, only to be suprised for the 9 billionth time when they're taken out by a single MS.

Seriously, stop humping your toy battleships, guys.

The alternative is losing a good chunk of our crew and having a shittier ship, or breaking away and geting ZERO politics we can play as a fringe group.

I'm aware. I have a distaste for politicking.
>>

The General Revil was pretty beastly, and so was Zeon's Gwandan series.

That being said, they're no good when they're piloted by political appointees with less skill than Riddhe.

Carriers are the future.

>>
>>34984803
I can't get hard without looking at one of those Sexy, Sexy Magellans.

Time to cut carrier production and funnel the resources into more battleship production!
>>
>>34984803

The problem is when they make pure battleships like the Magaellan or the Birmingham since they don't have the defenses to really deal with a MS rush down. Assault Carriers like the Pegasus-class, Alexandria, Argama/Radish, Ra Cailum, or Dogos Gier are what's really wanted and where they actually do head towards. The new Valkyrie is more or less a proto-Alexandria that can go on Earth. At least that's how I see it.
>>
>>34984974
Denied. Your taste is shit. We will be producing Biringhams, which sport far more Mega Particle cannons than Magellans and still carry no MS at double the cost.
>>
>>34985006
See, I totally get that. The Pegasus is useful as fuck. What I *don't* get is why the fuck you'd want to ruin some like that by trying to turn it into some kind of crappy half-carrier half ace fodder/Magellan.
>>
>>34985096
...It all makes sense when you figure they're trying to get us killed
>>
>>34984235
"We're not breaking yet," you mutter. "We're taking this to Karen."

After finding Karen in her office, showing her the planned modifications and explaining what you think Titans are up to with your crew, you watch your Captain lay her head on her desk in frustration.

"I've heard rumors about this shit," she mutters. "The EFSF is working on revamping the fleet: adding escort carriers and crossing cruisers with carriers to combine their roles and cut down on hull counts."

"But why HERE?" you ask pointedly. "We're partly an evaluation unit, where do they get off trying to cut our hangar space AT ALL, let alone as part of some bullshit scheme to get their filthy claws on two of our team?"

"I'll do what I can on my end," Karen resolves. "I can't guarantee you anything... this goes way above even my paygrade, Dom."

"All I ask is that you try," you tell her.

"I assume you also have plans?" Karen asks wearily.

Audrey nods. "I contacted Nina about an upgrade I had planned... we're calling it 'Ikebana" for now."

"What, like flower-arranging?"

"Exactly. It'd involve only operating two Lilium-type machines, but with two cockpits each," Audrey explains.

Karen's head lifts off the desk. "Explain."

"The core block construction method allows a Gundam to break into modular components, yes?"

You nod. "Expensive, and finicky, but yeah. I've seen the specs. Why?"

"Put cockpits in the torso and around the waist," Audrey continues, "and allow the two halves to reconfigure slightly to make use of waverider principles, and pow. You get two machines for the space of one, which operate in sync."

"That's nuts," you tell her. "Where'd you come up with this?"

"It was Rossweisse's idea," Audrey tells you, "and Carya helped me run the calculations. It SHOULD work."

"It lets us full use of our best resources," Haman concludes. "Our pilots, and the close bonds between them."

"And the pilot of the lower machine?" you ask. "What role do they serve?"

Rossweisse holds out a mechanical drawing of an arm that folds into itself. "Subarms," she explains.

"They would go on the hips," Haman explains. "The main pilot, the psycommu operator, and the 'bomber pilot'... each has a near-equal role in making the machine function at peak."

"Keep looking into it," Karen orders. "Is there anything else we can do?"

You nod to yourself. "What did you think of Lieutenant Emma Sheen?"

Haman nods. "She was okay, I guess."

"Tolerable," Audrey agrees.

"Hello, this is the San Diego recruitment depot, how may I transfer your call?" the operator asks in a pleasant tone that completely misses the pressing need you have for a quick turnaround.

"Get me Lieutenant Emma Sheen, Titans."

"One moment..." the operator begins, but you cut her off.

"No TIME!" you shout. "NOW! THIS IS ON URGENT BUSINESS FROM THE ADMIRALTY!"

"I'llseeifIcangether!!!" the panicking operator shouts. "Patchingyouthroughsirhaveaniceday!!!"

"Hello, Miss Sheen?" you ask, your voice suddenly calm again.

"Commander O'Hara?" she asks. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"

"You seem too nice to be with Titans. How about you hang out with my crew? I'll get you transferred onto our ship, and it'll be great."

There's a pause. "That seems like it's a breach of regulations."

"Ensign Messa," you point out.

"... I'll be there in twenty minutes, start the car running," she replies immediately. "Besides, this Yazan guy showed up, seems like he'll be a better fit for Jerid's unit anyway. Hard-looking bastard. Probably good to whip his ass into gear."

"That's great. See, everyone wins," you tell her. "See you in twenty minutes."

"It's largely political, though we do like you. The proposed refit for the Valkyrie would reduce its complement from eight suits to six, and we're worried that if they transferred in a support team it would result in some of us being split off to free the space. We've all gotten pretty close as a team, so we'd prefer to avoid that. Filling the remaining slots on our own seems like a better option than risking anyone getting transferred."
>>
>>34985796
this is good.
>>
>>34985796
Fuck, why don't we just transfer a bunch of other people then, too!

Let's ask Emma if she has any reccomendations.
>"... I'll be there in twenty minutes, start the car running,"
Funny, she seemed *real* eager to leave.
>>
>>34986039
It was that or stay on Jerid Messa's team. I understand her decision.
>>
>>34985589
You sigh, scratching idly at your hair as Carya walks up behind you. She seems to read the tone quickly, and simply stands near you as you begin to explain to Lieutenant Sheen the reasons you called her here.

"We're going to probably undergo a refit that will cut our MS compliment in half, and I believe Titans will use that opportunity to post a support team aboard the Valkyrie to split our team up," you explain.

Emma frowns. "That's low. Why would they want to do a thing like that, though?"

"High concentration of Newtypes, and one truly multi-talented Oldtype," Carya explains. "They want what we scraped together through trust and teamwork."

"And how do I factor in?"

"An extra pilot makes it extremely awkward to post a four-man team here," you explain. "If we can't stop the refit from going forward, the least we can do is either dissuade them from making a transfer, or make it much more difficult to sort out."

"Or at least give us time to come up with another alternative," Catrina adds.

"... so I'm a means to an end?" Emma asks, a note of bitterness creeping into her voice.

"Starting today, you're a member of my crew," you tell her. "And I don't lie to my crew... bringing you here serves a purpose, but remember I still chose you."

"... what is THAT supposed to mean, sir?" the Lieutenant asks warily.

"It means that out of all the Titans we've seen so far you're the only one that seems likely to turn out better than tolerable," you tell her. "You seem like a decent person: someone we can trust. And that's why you're here."

Emma Sheen's frown eases. "I think I can live with that," she tells you.

Carya gives you an approving nod as you show the Lieutenant to her quarters in the port gravity block.

That evening the Valkyrie broke orbit for Londenion: your home and native land, so to speak.

It's been a long time since you've seen it.

"As angry as I am about those Titans imbeciles and their refits," Haman tells you, "I'm excited to meet your family, Dominic. We'll have to meet them after our business is taken care of." Rossweisse nods emphatically, clearly thrilled and terrified at the prospect.

"What business in particular?"

"I've contacted someone in the Zeon Republican Guard," Haman explains. "Commander Monique Cadillac. I've wanted to talk to her about funding, and possibly having them build us a new ship-of-the-line."

"You think they'd do it?" Karen asks incredulously.

Haman nods. "Once they know who I am, and who my family is."

I gotta disagree with this in some ways, I mean, Emaa did go for Scirocco despite the fact that that his harem gathering antics were probably the worst kept secret of the Titans. After she joins him she eventually gets disillusioned because he's a manipulative dickbag, but she never seemed angry at him for his harem building tendancies. Heck, she and Sarah had a decently cordial relationship. Though I don't support seducing her.
