@QMKingofHearts.

Today is December 4th, UC 0083. You are Commander Dominic O'Hara, Titans, squadron leader for the mobile weapon forces aboard the SCV-82 Valkyrie. Your team has recently learned that your ship's impending refit in Londenion is intended to cut your mobile suit contingent from twelve down to six in favor of adding more guns and anti-air defense. It'll make your carrier much harder in a straight fight, but also leaves an opening for Titans to take advantage of your team's permanent roster of pilots: if they station a full team of 'regular' pilots aboard your vessel, or even constantly rotate in new suits for you to test, they can try to justify transferring Rossweisse and Audrey off the ship.

You suppose this sort of underhanded political maneuvering is going to become your new norm... it comes disturbingly hot on the heels of your joining the Titans organization earlier today.

For your part you think you've done all you can to stave off such a maneuver: by getting Karen to fight against the modifications, and by bringing in a new pilot, Lieutenant Emma Sheen. You've even heard from Audrey and Haman that your team has been toying with the idea of combining your three Lilium-class machines into two machines that would each split into two transformable “fighter” forms, similar to how other Gundams use core blocks and support machines. Each of these would require a crew of three, or two bodies in the case of the Viola, making it impossible to justify transferring any of your permanent team members.

For now, though, you sit with your team around the Officers' galley, sampling your new chef's cooking and talking about your families in preparation for meeting the other O'Haras...

“So what are your families like?” you ask the table. “I mean, we've met your family, Audrey, but we never really talk about where we come from.”

“I'll go first,” Catrina resolves. “It's better this way, trust me.”

Seeing how Carya clearly doesn't even want to talk about it, and how Catrina is forcing a cheery tone, you don't doubt it.

“Our parents are hard-core Zabi loyalists who think I died in the accident, and who disowned Carya when they found out we defected,” Catrina explains. “They're one step above pond scum, and allowing them to think I died instead of defecting with my sister was the last kindness we ever did them, in gratitude for them raising us.”

Emma looks at you, confused at who's talking, but you wave her off. “I thought you told me they were dead?”

Catrina chuckles darkly. “I wish. Really, we just didn't want you to think you were responsible for our dysfunctional family.”

Well that's some shit. You make it a point to reach over and give the Sisters a warm hug. Carya clings to you afterward in silence, still plainly frustrated at her parents but comforted by your being there for her.

“My old man's retired,” Karen tells you, moving the conversation along. “My fiancee and his family all died in the first week of the war. No siblings, and mom died two years ago. Stroke.”

Jesus, this just isn't looking up.

“No clue about my family,” Catherine admits. “They've apparently been missing since the war.”

Reiko's story is a little less bad. “No siblings, mom and dad divorced when I was twelve. They still talk, though.”

“That's nice,” Ilia offers as Haman watches her eat with a mild disinterest. “My dad tried to kill my mom when I was fifteen. Dad's not so talkative anymore, being in prison and all that.”
(2/3)
>>
>>35003114
“My dad moved us out to Axis after the war, and the trip basically killed my older sister Marlene,” Haman recounts. “I never properly forgave him for it before he died, and now Selena is hopefully somewhere in the Republic under Char's protection, laying low. I hate leaving her with that man, but he's the only one who's really in a position to help her.”

Oooookay... maybe this would be a good time to change the subject?

>Talk a bit about your family: your team needs to know if they're going to survive the crucible
I guess laying down some houserules first, if there are any, wouldn't hurt. I kinda doubt there would be though, Dom's family seems pretty chill in the emails.

And a meta topic for later, but were dummy dispensers in MS combat only prevalent from Zeta onwards?
>>
>>35003152
>Talk a bit about your family: your team needs to know if they're going to survive the crucible

It would be rude to drop out when we opened a can of worms, they shared, so we share. If anyone was truly uncomfortable they would have changed it or not spoken up.
>>
>>35003152
>Talk a bit about your family: your team needs to know if they're going to survive the crucible
I feel kind of shitty for talking about them, since our family is pretty stable and supporting, but it would be rude to back out now. What crucible would they have to face, though? Just the expected inquisition that comes when a young man brings a dozen women home to meet his parents? I hope that's all it is. It would be funny. "No, Dad, I told you this already: This is not some sort of battle-harem, I just happen to be in a predominantly female unit. Okay, yes, I have slept with a fair number of my combat team, but you don't have to make it sound so tawdry."

A bit earlier than Zeta, so they might be available now, especially with the more advanced technology level compared to canon. We might be able to get some early prototypes.

Alright, that's awesome then. Here's to hoping that our our own ship navigators will take a page from Torres' "More Dummies!" school of space combat.
>>
>>35003152
“Well,” you interrupt hesitatingly, keenly aware of your unit's attention turning back towards you, “some of you are going to be visiting my family while we're here, and you're welcome to it. But you'll need to know a little about them.”

Nobody replies, so you continue. “My old man, Robert “the Bruce”, is a burly sonofabitch with salt and pepper hair. He's about six foot four and built like a tank, but he's actually the silly one of the family. He's a senior engineering consultant for the Londenion council.”

“My mum,” you tell them, “is Shannon. Typical, no-nonsense Scots-Irish stock. She's a biologist, and advises the council on environmental concerns and sustainability. She also doesn't believe in Newtypes: says it's all “psuedoscientific nonsense”.”

“How's that possible?” Karen asks incredulously.

“Hasn't told her he is one yet,” Carya explains.

“Then there's my big sister, Irene. Works for the district attorney, and has no idea I've been moved back onto active combat duty. My little brother is Nicky: 15, and thinks that mobile suits are the coolest thing in the world.”

Carya looks at you warily. “Anything else they should know?”

You nod. “My older brother Kyle died in the war. He was a volunteer firefighter... it's kind of an open wound still. You may see a picture of him on the mantle. It's really best not to bring it up.”

“I understand,” Karen mutters. “I think we all can.”

“Anyway, the only other thing you need to know is that my old man is a kidder, and we've all had to grow up just as fast and relentless as him. It's how we survive,” you add. “So be aware that he'll be looking for reactions out of you, but it's all in good fun. If he crosses any lines just let him know and he should ease off.”

“It takes some getting used to,” Catrina confirms. “But it should be fun.”

>>
>>35003672
“And us?” Rossweisse asks.

Haman shakes her head. “Do you even know how they'll react to... well, to us?”

You shake your head. “Truthfully, I can't say.”

Can't really dodge this one since they will be seeing plenty of Haman and Rossweisse in the future probably.

Dad'll bring it up as a joke, then we'll say it's not a joke, then Mom is going to go ballistic, and then we'll have to prove that Newtypes are real.

What tests can we perform to prove that Newtype powers are real?
Maybe some psycommu specs and the fact that they work be enough scientific evidence? Or is that stuff still classified?
>>

>>No sense hiding it: I'll bring it out into the open when I feel the time is right
>>
>>35003807
Well back during the attack on the Rose we did talk to that enemy pilot with our mind, maybe we could do that again?
>>
>>35003821
That would amuse me greatly.
>>
Do we have our spiffy new Titans Uniforms yet? How would our parents react to our promotions?
>>
>>35003858
You do. And to be clear: you haven't been literally promoted. A few of your team have for the purposes of interaction with other Titans units, but your whole team is effectively treated as two ranks higher than you are.

You're essentially a Commander with the authority (and pay) of a Commodore.
>>
>>35003702
>Don't bring it up, but don't dodge: they're too clever to be shaken off easily
If it's the whole Newtype thing, it's only Dom's Mom who'll have to process it a little longer. She might sympathize and warm up to Ross' situation, however.
>>
>>35003842
>Mom doesn't belive Newtypes are real
>Laugh internally
>"There's a reason part of my nickname is Jester."

>>35003901
Neat, I just thought we had 2 rank command authority. I was wondering why we were asked if we were doing it for the pay.
>>
>>35003926
That reminds me. What are we going to do with the bucketloads of money we get?
>>
>>35003901
I meant our promotion from Lt Commander to Commander, I wasn't sure if we'd mentioned that/ or if it happened when we last sent letters.
>>
>>35003901
Thinking of how highly ranked Dominic is for his age got me thinking: When's Dominic's birthday, again? I remember it's late December, so it should be in the next few weeks, but I can't remember the exact date. Are we going to do a birthday celebration while we're visiting our family while we have the chance?
>>
>>35003971
Uh... Cyber-Newtype rehab charity? Somewhere down the line.
>>
>>35003971
We should create some safe deposits, incase we have to go to ground. I suggest keeping a fair chunk of it in Riah or somesuch.

Also, we should set up dead drops and methods of contact in case our team gets split up and we decide to defect. As ex-teammates, they'd be at the top of the list of suspects.
>>
>>35003971
Reiko would tell you "it's easier for a Big Zam to pass through the hangar doors of a Musai than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Really it's up to you, but I'm sure you'll come up with something.
>>
>>35003901
>You're essentially a Commander with the authority (and pay) of a Commodore.

That sounds like Gundam X Quest all over again. I hate it when I start seeing commanderfagging scale escalation.
>>
>>35003672
“They're predators,” you reply, looking Haman right in the eye. “Sure, their prey is knowledge, but the same rules apply. Try to run? Make it a challenge? All you do is trigger their chase instincts.”

"Don't try to hide?" she replies.

"Exactly."

Haman uncrosses and recrosses her legs under the table, and Haman sighs. Carya shifts her weight a little. "So do you plan to tell them?"

You ponder the notion for a second. "If it comes up, I'll preempt it and tell them myself without them prompting. But please, leave the talking to me. I should be the one to deal with it."

Carya gives you a quick peck on the cheek. "If you need us to bail you out, we'll be here."

Once dinner is over, you contemplate what to do next. You should probably contact your parents and let them know how many people will be coming with you when you visit them, and it might pay to ring up Nina about your project, and to pump her for information about what the Federation brass have in the pipeline.

>What do? Who call? Who will come with you to meet your parents?
>I'll check back in 15 minutes, and extend the discussion period if there's no agreement
>>
>>35004032

Well, I'm sure that there is some company we could buy stocks in... maybe one which has had dealings with a certain electronics manufacturer...
>>
>>35004220
The other Titans have similarly inflated ranks, to the point where their flag officers and captains basically run the whole Federation military in canon.

And if/when Titans goes kaputt, we may or may not be tried for war crimes due to our rank.
>>
>>35004238
>What do? Who call? Who will come with you to meet your parents?
I guess will have to call both the parents and sister and see if we can't meet up at our parent's house. We shall bring all our crew since we did that with Audrey's family.
>>
>>35004238
Call Nina first, to get some info about what's going on, and about the project.

Then call Mom and Dad to let them know that we're coming home for a bit, and that we're bringing our crew and girlfriend. They can let our sister and brother know.
>>
>>35004306
Probably should make a separate call to Nina after that. Could pay to know what's on the horizon tech-wise.
>>
>>35004238
>What do? Who call? Who will come with you to meet your parents?
Call parents and older sister first, that shouldn't take long. Then call Nina if we have the remaining time. As for who we bring to dinner? Anyone who wants to, though the combat team and Karen are definite invites.
>>
>>35004238
>What do? Who call? Who will come with you to meet your parents?
Call the family and bring all of the girls.
>>
>>35004414
I agree with that, I also want to cal Dr. Hobo too, since he's awesome.
>>
>>35004238
>What do? Who call? Who will come with you to meet your parents?
A bit of business is in order first, I suppose. Give Nina a call regarding the work we're doing with the Lilium. Is it pretty much gonna end up a Feddie version of the Bawoo?
And I dunno if this is within her jurisdiction, but we could also talk about the ship refitting situation.

And try to mentally wrangle what to say to our family later, since I do want to bring most of the crew with us. The two recent transfers plus Emma, I'm having a bit of a dilemma with them, but if they want to tag along too, I guess it's not a problem.
>>
>>35004421
Maybe call Admiral Kowen too?
>>
>>35004482
More likely it'll be the S Gundam. Three pilots, separates into two planes, heavy beam weapons, and can wield multiple weapons at a time due its unique construction. I imagine it as winding up looking somewhat like a cross between the S and the Hyzenthlay. Though I imagine everything Audrey works on to look like the Hyzenthlay. I love Advance of Zeta designs.

Heading over to your ready room, you grab a terminal and set it to broadcast a laser transmission to Londenion. The signal link is fairly poor, but good enough for a quick conversation.

"Dad?" you ask as someone on the Londenion side activates their home terminal.

"Dom! Ma boy!" your father practically roars. "It's been forever since we've been able ta space Skype. I take it 'chore nearby?"

"Sort of," you reply. "We're actually on our way to Londenion for a refit."

"An you're comin' ta visit, right?" your father replies. "Whom I kiddin', ah course ya are! Even if I've got to come over there and drag you back by the scruff o' yer neck!"

"Actually, you may want to plan bigger than just me," you admit.

"How many ah your frens are comin' witcha then? I take it 'cher lovely wee lass'll be comin' too?"

"You can expect around... twelve of us? Maybe?" you reply honestly uncertain of how many people will be coming with you.

Your father simply whistles. "I'll tell yer mum to plan fer tweny," he tells you. An I'll have to dress my very finest, I 'spose, if ma future daughter'll be here."

You laugh loudly at the image of your father in a kilt and long socks before realizing he's probably serious. "Knock yourself out, you crazy Scots bastard."

This time it's your dad's turn to laugh. "Yer sis an brother'll be here too when yer ready. Jus' send me a line 'er two when ya know when you'll be here, yeah?"

"Will do," you reply. "See you soon, dad."

"Love ya, kiddo," he replies jovially. "It'll be good ta have ya back fer a spell."

Advanced Logistic and Inconsequence Cognisizing Equipment. Shes an AI, one of the few in the Universal Century setting. Fully sapient, incredibly dedicated to the pilot of the suit she's installed in, and completely incapable of communicating with them directly. I don't know what Anaheim was thinking when they made her. She'd be nice for us to have, though, since our Newtype abilities may let us communicate with her properly.

Still chuckling to yourself, you press a few keys on your terminal and patch a secure connection through to Earth: specifically, to Woomera village, where you know Nina is currently working with Kou and South.

"Yello," South replies casually before realizing who you are. "Dom! The hell you doing in a Titans uniform?"

"Signed up my unit," you tell him. "Figured we'd get a better view from the inside."

"Guessed as much. You just can't keep out of trouble, can you?"

"Nope," you agree. "Speaking of trouble, how's the misses?"

"Tense," South replies, "but we're living together again. I've been trying real hard to make it work this time, but really I'm just grateful I've gotten a second chance."

"All too rare," you observe. "You're a lucky man."

South nods emphatically. "I suppose you'll be wanting to talk to Miss Purpleton?"

"How'd you know?"

"She got your team's message, and she's been excited ever since. Kou's feeling pretty forgotten."

You shrug. "He'd better get used to it. Strikes me she just gets like that sometimes."

"I'll go get her," South offers. "But hey, nice talking to you again. And drop by some time? Don't make it another three years?"

"Will do, South. Take care, and say hi to Sylvie, would you?"

After a few minutes, Nina's face appears as she settles into the chair at South's desk.

"Project Ikebana is in progress," she tells you straight away. "I think we could have it to you in record time, if nothing else interferes."

“So, what else is going on in your world, Nina? I can't believe Titans wouldn't be tapping your company for ANYTHING...”

“I really shouldn't be telling you this...” she mutters.

“... buuuuuut?”

“... okay, there are twelve other projects I know about,” she tells you. “Five of them are mobile suit development projects: 'Alpha' is meant to cheaply replicate Gundarium and incorporate it into a mass-production machine, and 'Gamma' is similar, but intends to produce an improved alloy.”

“Improved?” you ask. “As in, BETTER than the stuff we have now?”

Nina nods. “It's possible. The 'Delta' project is meant to test new construction techniques, and 'Zeta' is meant as a capstone for the previous three. 'Epsilon' is an experiment in miniaturizing the Orion drive for smaller ships and possibly mobile suits.”

“That's insane,” you comment. “It'll never work at that scale”

“They said the same thing about the Minovsky Interference Scanner we're working on for you, but we've got one working and ready to put in your ship when it's being re-fit... off the record, of course, thanks to a few of my friends in Lodnenion. The mobile suit version will be a little longer in coming, but all your newly upgraded machines will have space for them.”

“Great to hear,” you tell her, “but sorry it's been giving you some difficulties. How about the other seven projects?”

“Three aren't secretive at all,” Nina tells you. “There's 'Longfall', which is a mass-produced and probably standard-issue reentry pack for mobile suits and capital ships. Titans will probably have you combat-test that. Then there's 'Jazz Hands', which is meant to incorporate launchers into a mobile suit's hands meant to patch holes in colony walls or stand in as non-lethal force."

"Last, you have the 'Next Generation Carrier Project', which will basically lead to a new class of dedicated 'escort carriers' that will go into service alongside the traditional Salamis class.”

"Sounds like a good time to invest in Anaheim," you mutter. "All kinds of shit going on."

"I dunno," Nina mutters. "There are a few other projects that have me baffled."

"Such as?" you ask.

"There's 'Red Snake', being handled by the Augusta Newtype Labs, 'Ramiel', which is run out of Oakland and Leipzig, and 'Six Shooter', which I couldn't even get that much information on. Apparently the latter is privately funded by something called the "Vist Foundation"."

Your eyes widen a little at the name. "I've heard of them," you mutter. "Be very, VERY careful who you tell about that. In fact, don't mention that name to anyone else again. Just forget about it entirely."

Nina seems confused at your sudden concern, but pushes that aside. "The last project is something called 'ALICE', run by Doctors Carol and Roots. No clue what that one is, just that it's an acronym for something."

You ponder over the new information. "Thanks, Nina. I owe you big."

"Don't mention it... really, don't. I could get in major trouble."

"Keep Uraki in line," you tell her.

"Will do. Gimme a call when the refit is done."

On a whim, you ask Reiko to patch you through to Admiral Kowen, which she fumbles blearily to manage. It takes her a full five minutes to track the man down, and when you finally get a call through, you're surprised to find him out of uniform.

"You... alright, sir?"

"Does it look that way?" he growls. "I'm under house-arrest, son."

"I'm sorry, sir. It probably has to do with our breaking chain of command?" you ask.

"Exactly," he confirms. "I'll be under investigation for a while, and they may bust me in rank, but I should be fine. Now, I take it you're calling about that refit you've been ordered to undergo?"

You nod quietly, and the Admiral sighs.

"My name is mud right now with the Admiralty, but I'll see if I can do something from this end. You're not under my command, though, so don't expect much."

"Every little bit," you reply.

After catching him up to speed on your reasoning for joining Titans, which puts Kowen at ease, you finally say goodbye.

Next, you track down Catherine, who's about ready to turn in for the night down in the gravity block.

"Hey there, ENSIGN Blitzen," you greet her as you drift down to the deck.

"You're still up?" she asks. "What are you even doing?"

"Just cruising the halls, saying hi to you, plotting against the plots plotted by the plotters at Titans. You?"

"I'm going to bed," she tells you. "You should do the same, sir. I hate seeing you drive yourself to exhaustion like this."

"But I'm not..."

"Don't make me make that an order, O'Hara."

"... yes, ma'am," you reply wearily.

Stumbling into one of the rooms in your hallway, you find Rossweisse sitting up in bed reading a book: you've gotten the wrong room. Oh well, it's not like anyone on this deck would mind.

"Hey, Rosse," you mutter.

"Hi."

"You okay?" you ask, unfocused and barely coherent. "I mean, with seeing my family? It'll be different for you, maybe even awkward."

"I have a family, you know," she replies quietly.

"You do?" you ask. "And remember, Loki doesn't count. Not just because he's not your family, but cuz he's an asshole."

"Yes."

"Well, where are they?" you ask, leaning over her bed.

"Right here," Rossweisse replies quietly.

...

When you wake up, you find that Rossweisse had tucked you into her bed when you passed out last night. Tugging on your pants, you step out into the hallway, and notice that the Valkyrie is no longer moving: you must be in Londenion.

You quickly send a message out to your parents letting them know to expect you around 18:30 tonight, December 5th, then strike out to find Haman.

Along the way you run into Rosse, who's reading the same book she was last night, and rope her along. She's still reading when you finally find Haman and the Sisters down in the port hangar talking to Karen and Audrey.

"Well, I'll miss this hangar," Audrey comments.

"I think we all will," Catrina tells her in mock sympathy. "The starboard hangar is simply not the same. Everything's on the wrong side over there. It's like driving in England."

Karen laughs loudly as you approach their group.

"What news on the refit?" you ask.

"Apparently Kowen did some pushing as well," Karen replies. "Titans has agreed to lengthening the hangar deck and rearranging it to add back two of our maximum MS compliment, bringing us up to eight with space below for the Val Varo and various equipment."

"Good deal!" you tell her. "Whose idea was it to lengthen the hangars?"

"Mine," she tells you. "I figured the most reasonable alternative had the best chance of success, and Audrey figured they couldn't say no to something that didn't conflict with their goals of improving our shooting capacity."

"Clever," Haman admits. "Can I borrow you for a few hours, Carya?"

Carya nods. "I assume we'll be meeting your contact?"

"That's right."

"Then let's go. Dominic, you have marching orders for tonight?"

You nod. "Bridge crew, pilots, and seniormost repair staff. Also, bring Miss Pazom."

"The prisoner?" Karen asks, confused. "Why?"

"I'm not sure," you admit. "Maybe I just want to be nice to her."

"Sayla won't be coming," Audrey informs you. "She's taking care of our other 'prisoner' while we're in port... poor thing."

"I understand," you reply. "She'll put her patient's welfare first. I won't deny her that."

"We'll meet at the tram station at 18:00 exactly. No uniforms: we'd stick out like nobody's business, and I have no idea how unpopular Titans may be here yet."

Karen nods. "I'll see to it everyone's informed."

Haman, as it turns out, has planned the meeting you're going to quite carefully. The location? A cafe you know fairly well near the docks. It's nice and quiet, and out of the way enough that nobody would really attract much notice there.

"This the place?" Catrina asks.

You nod. "The coffee's good, as are the sandwiches."

"I forgot," Haman comments, "that you've probably been here before. Should have just asked you where to do this from the start."

Inside, you find a variety of places to sit, along with patrons of all stripes.

Haman turns to look at you, but you shake your head.

"What are you looking at me for?" you ask. "This is your op."

Haman nods silently in the direction of a booth. "Our contact will be expecting us to be someplace out of the way, and would probably insist on some measure of privacy."

"Then the booth it is," you reply, settling into the bench next to Carya.

It takes a few minutes for your contact to arrive, but when she does you can tell it's her. Commander Monique Cadillac cuts an impressive figure: almost matronly, in a way. Her red hair is piled up on her head, and her eyes are sharp behind her glasses. You could easily see her wearing a skirt suit on the top floor of some major company's headquarters without looking out of place.

This woman is all business.

"I take it you're the young lady claiming to be Haman Karn?" Cadillac asks as she sits next to you, across from Haman and Rossweisse.

"I am Haman Karn, yes," Haman replies sternly. "No need to qualify it."

"I DO apologize," Cadillac offers nonchalantly, "but you must realize, we have no evidence that you are who you say you are."

"Cut the bullshit," Carya scowls. "You wouldn't be here if you hadn't figured it out."

"And what is it you want from us?" Cadillac continues.

"Funding," Haman replies quietly. "Support for us while we investigate the Federation's more 'distasteful' affairs and plan to counter Titans when it goes out of control. Possibly including a new ship, and a few mobile suits and trained pilots to go with it."

"When, you say?"

"That's right," Haman replies. "When. Because make no mistake, that's where this is heading. Titans will fill its ranks with leeches and vampires, seeking only to feed off the strength and authority of the organization. And there WILL need to be a reckoning."

"And why should we trust you?" Cadillac replies, leaning in towards Haman. "What could we possibly stand to gain?"

I dunno if I want to cut Haman off, but if we do, I want to say something like;

"Thanks to the recent efforts by the Delaz fleet, the Titans recruitment is flush with a bunch of people eager for vengance for the recent attack. Do you really think that they're going to merely confine themselves with hunting just the Delaz Fleet?

No, anti-Spacenoid sentiment is on the rise, me and my associate here *points to Catrina* personall blaming all spacenoids for the OYW, despite the fact that many of us actually fought alongside the EFF during the conflict.

This was months before the recent attack by Delaz, and now with the formation of a group with almost unlimited power, and Zero oversight, has the potential to be ruinous to any Spacenoid. If they do procede on such a path of vengance, one of the prime targets would be the RoZ blaming you for starting this whole thing."

Carya flags down a waiter. "Get me a coffee, please."

"Me too," you add, rubbing your temples.

"Would that be a tall, or a grande, or..." the waiter begins, but Catrina cuts him off.

"The fuck? Just... get the biggest cup you have, fill it with coffee, and bring it to me."

The waiter writes something down on his notepad, then looks up. "Sugar, creamer, or espresso for you?"

"You have something against coffee?" Carrina growls, her eyes flashing a dangerous shade of purple only another Newtype could see.

"Two filter coffees. Big. Go." You order. "Sorry, they didn't used to be like this."

"As for your question," Haman replies, "Rossweisse? What's the Federation's official stance on colonial independence?"

"Fuck the colonies."

"Sounds about right," Haman agrees. "They're not big fans of your move for greater independence, let alone your absorption of the Cima fleet."

"And the wounds left by Delaz are still fresh," you add. "Titans and the EFF are recruiting new blood, and they're mostly angry young men. A lot of them lost family. What makes you think they'll stop at wiping out the Principality remnants?"

"Face it," Carya concludes, "we're your only real allies here. Now do you want to support us while we try to help you and the rest of the Earth Sphere, or would you rather chance it with the next group of Titans soldiers who come calling?"

Commander Cadillac leans back next to you with a sigh. "You make some valid points... I'll take the matter to my superiors. I'm sure Cima will throw her authority behind you as well."

Just one minute here. I vaguely recall that the last leader of the RoZ got sacked after the Operation Stardust incident.
Who's the new head honcho running it now? And what's the general impression of the Federation and the colonies on him/her?

Otherwise, just proceed to dinner.
>>
>>35007388
"Now that that's settled," you announce, "how about you stay for lunch, Miss Cadillac?"

"I really should be getting back to report to my superiors," she begins.

You shake your head. "Oh, come on. It's just going to be an hour or so, and you can add some personal evaluations to your report."

"When you put it that way..."

Over the next hour or so before heading back to the ship, you learn a little about your Zeon counterpart: Cadillac fills roughly the same role as you do. She was part of an evaluation team during the war, and surrendered after A Baoa Qu. Her new job has her evaluating refit and refurbished Zeon mobile suits, testing them before they're sent off aboard the Republic's under-sized fleet.

She also starts to open up a little to you and your team, and by the time you part ways it seems she'll be a valuable contact in the future, if not an actual friend.

Finally, 18:00 arrives.

Your team assembles and all thirteen of you pack into one tram car. Even Ilia is here, wearing a somewhat awkwardly-cut set of civvies suited to someone in a hair metal band. The shock collar is still in place to deter her from any ill-conceived attempts at troublemaking, though you feel that she's well and truly beyond the point where she'd bother.

In fact, she seems to have grown quite used to her status as the best-treated prisoner of war in recent history.

At about 18:30, you reach your parents house.

Not really knowing what else to do, you knock on the door. Once, twice... and by the third knock the door has already swung open, and your father has swept you into a massive bearhug... along with Karen and Reiko, who were standing next to you.

"DOMINIC!" he roars, spinning the three of you around.

"Hi dad..." you manage as your ribcage is crushed into Karen's chest.

"Can't... breath..." Karen chokes. "Chest... compressed..."

Finally, and not a moment too soon, your old man sets you down. "Well don'tcha just keep standin' there! Come on in, you daft lot!"

"He's very Scottish," Miyu comments with a giggle.

"Aye, he is," you agree, sliding ever so slightly back into the faint accent you used to have when you lived at home.

"Dominic Francis O'Hara, what IS the meaning of this?" you hear your mother demand as she walks into the room from the kitchen. "You'd best not be courting all these young ladies at once, like you used to when you were a schoolboy."

"Mum," you groan, "they're my unit, not a clique."

"Aye, I was goin' ta ask you how it was you managed to get every female officer in the fleet with ya at once," your dad muses. "So yer all workin' with my boy, then?"

Karen nods. "Captain Joshua. I'm your son's commander in the field."

"I hope he's not been too much trouble, lass."

Karen shakes her head and smiles. "Nah. He practically holds this unit together, sir."

Your sister walks in from the second floor of your family's two-story home, and waves. "Nice of you to join us for dinner!" she tells you, throwing her arms around you in a big hug. "Good to see you got away from testing those crummy war relics for a day or two."

You force a little laugh. "Yeah, sure is good to have some time off."

Finally, Nicky pokes his head out to see the strangers.

"Hi again, Nicky," Carya greets him politely.

"Welcome back, Miss Marseille," he replies sheepishly.

"Can't help noticing you've got real pants on," you observe, confusing most of your team.

"Aye," your dad replies wearily. "I figured it'd be best to keep things a wee bit low key tonight."

"That isn't like you at all," you tell him. "You've learned self-control."

"I wouldn't be tellin' yer mum that," he warns you. "She might get it in her head I've grown reasonable in me old age. Take it as the first sign ah senility."

"So," your sister asks aloud, looking your whole team over. "I have a tough time believing an evaluations unit would need so many people. Do most of you push paper, or what?"

Might as well admit it. They'll know if we lie, and the lack of details will just make them worry.

Also, I feel kind of bad for Nicky. We took this shy teenage mecha fan and introduced him to a dozen attractive young ladies, about 70% of which either pilot or build giant robots. "We do combat evaluations," she replies.

Your sister's eyes widen. "You mean you're back on active combat duty, Dom?"

You nod. "Dad and mum didn't want you to worry. But yeah, I'm back in combat... but with the best team in the fleet."

"But still," she insists, "you've already done your part! Why go back out there and risk getting yourself killed?"

"The Valkyrie? The ship that stopped that attack on the Republic? The one that's been all over the news?" you ask.

"That was you, I'm takin' it?" your father asks.

"Indeed," Rossweisse replies quietly.

You nod. "We're in a position to do a lot of good and protect a lot of people, sis," you explain. "And you know how I feel about that."

"If you have the ability, you have the responsibility," she sighs. "I know, brother."

"So," your mother replies, dishing out some beautifully slow-cooked lamb stew, "what makes this team of yours so special, Dominic?"

She's clearly trying to steer the conversation in a way that'll reassure your sister, and likely herself as well, that you're really going to be safe despite the nature of your work. You can feel Carya and Haman preparing for a potential demonstration.

You lean in over the table and grin at your mother, trying to send her a short message. All you manage to do is confuse her.

"What... Nicholas, did turn off the television as I told you to?"

Nicky nods, also confused. "Aye, mum."

"Now don't be lying to me young man. I hear a laugh track coming from somewhere."

You nod. "That'd be me."

"Come again, love?" your mom replies.

"I'm a Newtype, mum. So are Carya, Noin, and Rosse. That's part of what sets our team apart, but every last one of us here is the best at what we do," you explain.

"... bollocks," your mom replies.

"You heard the laughing?" you ask. "Why do you think they call me a 'Jester'? The first time I awoke as a Newtype, everyone at A Baoa Qu could hear that same laughter in their minds, regardless of where they were."

"We can move machines designed to pick up our thoughts," Haman adds.

Carya nods in agreement. "We can feel danger ahead of time. We respond before a threat even manifests."

"And we can feel emotions and aggression," you finish. "We're not 'normal', mum."

Your mother seems to mull this over: her logical mind can't seem to allow what you're saying to be true, but she's not willing to believe you'd lie about it. Instead she simply heads for the kitchen to retrieve the next course.

"So, missy," your dad starts awkwardly trying to strike up a conversation with Ilia, "why're ya wearin' a collar?"

"I'm a prisoner of war from Mars Zeon," she explains.

"An my son brought ya here fer what reason?" he asks incredulously.

"I suppose he's trying to be polite," she guesses. "You raised your son to be quite the gentleman. Unusual, for a Titans officer."

"Yeah," you laugh. "Seems more and more like I can't capture a female soldier without ending up recruiting her... and in retrospect this is how it starts."

"Wait, did that young lady just say Titans?" your mother asks, now back with her Wellingtons. "Are you really joining up with those glory-hounds, Dominic?"

"Yes, mum," you reply. "They're refitting our ship and giving us access to new equipment, and in the mean time we get to spend their money on investigations."

"Investigations?" your sister asks.

Karen nods. "We don't really trust them not to abuse their power, so we're going to try to weed out the worst elements from within."

"That's well and good," your mom offers, "supposing you stick to it. Seems like a thing as my son would think up."

"So is there anything ELSE you've been keeping under wraps, Dominic?"

You sigh. "Well, aside from meeting a terrible Riddick impersonator and fighting against the Red Count, I'm... kind of in a relationship with four women."

There's a pregnant pause at the table as the newer members of your team, like the operators and Emma, sit up and take notice.

"You'd best start talkin', laddie," your dad whispers. "I've seen yer mum wearin' that look before, an no good kin come ah it."

"Well, the woman you know as Carya Marseille? Really two Newtype souls in one body: Carya and her sister Catrina."

"It's complicated," Carya explains as your family turn to stare at her. "The Flannagan Institute got up to some weird stuff in the war."

"Flannagan?" Nicky squeaks. "But that means..."

"Hush," Irene shushes him. "Not the time, Nicky."

"There was something kinda special there from the start," you nod at the sisters, who give you a reassuring smile, "even before our first mission took us to Axis, where we basically kidnapped... well, Haman Karn."

Your family all stare at Haman now. "Hi," she greets them. "You probably heard about me from that fool Delaz's broadcast. Dominic's team were the ones who kidnapped me."

"We kind of grew close," you explain, greatly oversimplifying the story, "probably in part because we're both Newtypes. There was an immediate empathy there that grew into something else that we couldn't really ignore."

"He was the sort of person I needed at that point in my life," Haman explains. "The greater his support and the deeper he cared for me, the stronger it made me."

"And then there's Rosse," you finish, your entire family turning again to face the quiet young Newtype. "We basically busted her out of the Newtype labs in Oakland after they surgically altered her into a Newtype. After that, it was like with Haman. I couldn't NOT care about her. And now, we're her family."

"So..." your mom hisses quietly. "You're telling me that you couldn't help but chase four skirts all at once, then?"

You nod. "It's hard not to feel deep affection for someone when you're so in tune with each other's thoughts and feelings. I was wary about it ending this way, but I don't think any of us had much choice, because we can't help being who and what we are."

Miyu, Noel, and Emma are all a little surprised to hear the reality of the situation laid out so openly for the first time, but it's nothing compared to the confused thoughts your family are having right now.

"I can't believe this, Robert."

"Shannon, it seems it's not ah normal case, y'know."

"You can't believe they're all Newtypes?"

"Why not, lass? People had a rough go of it trying to prove the Earth was round one time," your father points out. "If they really are what they say they are, Dom's got a fair point. An it's not like he's gon' ta be abusive or nothin'. We raised 'im better an that, and if he can feel their emotions, then that's an end of it. Ain't nobody else goin't be be as good fer each other as those lot."

Your father cocks an eyebrow at the turn of phrase.

Haman blushes slightly, and Carya and Rossweisse each put a hand over one of your little brother's ears.

"... I could use a drink," you finish. "Anyone else want one?"

Your father bursts into one of his deep, reverberating laughs, and the tension immediately lifts from the table. "You must be loosin' yer touch, laddie," he crows. "Yer NEVER 'at easy! Either tha', or you were jus' 'at worried."

"Jesus, dad," you mutter, "of course I was worried. I've faced down mobile armors I was worried less about."

Jamitov Hymem has a lot more clout right now. In Evolve he took a personal dislike of the Dendrobium to the extent of leaking the data on it to Zeon to get it destroyed, and had it impounded during the series so that Kou had to steal it.

In-character, your team already suspects that Hymem could be the "JH" mentioned in some of the emails you found at Anaheim, and that he could be the key player in a massive conspiracy.
>>
>>35010955
Wait, why would have more clout than in canon? The disaster wasn't as big, the Federation actually stopped the colony drop, and the RoZ won't give him the time of day, rather than being his most loyal allies.

You actually answered your own question. With a resurgent Republic, an impending referendum in Riah on small-scale militarization, several armed Terran states re-emerging, and even LITERAL space Nazis gaining some popularity in Side 2 (as in an honest to god National Socialist party), there's actually much more of a perceived threat to Federation interests.

Hymem may not have a sociopolitical mandate like in canon, but the Federation brass are much more willing to buy the brand of "justice" he's selling.

Also, as an aside: this arc.

The ground crew can be referred to as Stagehands. The pilots and grunts can be Harlequins. The command staff can be Ring Leaders. We alone have the Jester title.

>>35012047
Our ship can be The Big Top.

>>35012070
Soon.
>>
>>35012070
We're the Devil's Jester (formerly the Red Wolf), while Carya and Catrina are the Black Star. The rest of the team are unknown. Likewise with the ace colors. We know the twins have dark blue with black highlights, but that's the only one.

This is what the Sisters' color scheme is right now, on a Bawoo.

Your machine substitutes a medium teal for the dunkelgrun, and Audrey's uses a deep shade of red.

Einherjars

We're being ferried by the Valkyrie after all.

>dunkelgrun
Well, it appears that's a real color. Huh. The things you learn on this board.

>clown motif.
O Lord no GBFQ did it I hated it.
>>
>>35012070
Haman's ace name almost certainly refers to her rain of missiles she brings down upon any opponent. That our her outburst when we got hurt
>>
>>35012161
We haven't really done a clown motif. All we have is a spooky Pagliacci mask that pops down when we activate Trans-Am.
>>
>>35012117
No we're are the Red Wolf.
>>
>>35012153
Specifically it's RLM 72, which is one of several shades of green used by the Luftwaffe. The black is RLM 22, and the gray is a USN light gray.
>>
>>35012161
That's disappointing. I did not know that. And here I thought I was being clever.
>>
>>35012189
But talking about it again and again, but hay that just me.
>>
>>35012231
Did they stop with the retarded Ball meme yet? I couldn't read it anymore after they took that joke, and drove it into the ground a few threads in.

THERE ARE FOUR BALLS
>>
>>35012243
Sort of. We still use the Balls, but we've stopped the jokes. Now they're just a part of our arsenal, not something to laugh at. We didn't even make a "ball crusher" joke when we crushed an opponent by ramming him with them.

>>35012272
Maybe she can apprentice under Lieutenant Itano from last thread. If his specialty is anything other than missile barrages I will be extremely surprised.

No, we're going big or we shall fail to troll Char. We shall name ourselves Ablaze Ranch.

HERE'S JOHNNY.
>>
>>35012444
No I think I'll still with Domnic's Valkyrie.
>>
Don't mind on the name, so long as we remain 'the vaguest squad in the Federation'...

Once we are settled into Titans, we should use our 'power' to get the info about the Cyber-Newtype labs and their subjects...
We did kind of vow that we'd somehow put a stop to that shit...
>>
>>35012652
We also have that whole conspiracy thing to deal with as well.
>>

War, civil war and other....

At the end of this, we better be running the EFF...
