It is the year 228X and Humanity has reached the stars. However, even as mankind grasps the heavens our asses are still firmly planted in the mud.

After a tumultuous 21st century on Earth government has ceded its role to private enterprise. Humanity is ruled by ultra-Corporations. Some own continents. Some own multiple worlds. But no matter who you are, everyone is a citizen-employee somewhere. The qualms that beset corporations of the past, copyright infringement, tech theft, still exist. If anything, they are amplified by the scale of the players.

Without government to turn to for legal recourse and separated by millions and billions of miles, corporations have turned to less savory solutions to resolve disputes. You are one of those solutions.

You are an elite mercenary, also known as a High Impact Public Representative, of the StrikeOut Company, a group of mercenaries who accept contracts and missions from the highest bidder. You are an orbital courier. Your package is pain.

You rub your mouth, a combination of bitterness and shame welling up within you. You just knew that the addition of restrictive gel would exacerbate your cryo-sickness, so perhaps the fit of vomiting upon your successful thawing wasn’t unexpected but it was still quite unwelcome.

“Pay attention Ivan,” says Clayton has he leans over the tactical map in the debriefing room, a glowing green hologram of the op zone with it’s wide gardens and low walls changes scale with nauseating speed as Clayton brings into focus a distant sewer outlet. “If you all don’t mind getting a mite dirty we could always attempt a soft drop and insert through the septic system. Not quite as dramatic I say, but perhaps safer, and we wouldn’t have to deal with any defenses or nests they might have stationed along the wall.”

Marlena reaches out and spins the hologram quickly. You burp involuntarily. “Martian, why’d you do that,” asks Clayton dully. Marlena merely leers in your direction. You swallow the metaphorical bile of a retort alongside the literal bile of ascending stomach acid.

Clayton rubs his eyes, looking tired. “So regardless, it’s agreed that Elda will be setting up overwatch on the rise to the Northwest.” The hologram shifts away from the complex and to some hills of exposed igneous rock a klick and a half away from the main compound. “But Martian, Kostov. Sewer approach or crash land in the gardens? We do the gardens it’d make for a better recording and Elda would be able to cover us. Sewers though, we’ve got a chance to get the drop on the bastards.”

You swallow forcefully and speak before Marlena has a chance to fuck around with the hologram again. “Gardens,” you blurt out. Clayton glances over at Marlena. She nods in agreement. “Barfo has the right of it. Gardens sound a lot more fun.”

Clayton sighs. “I was rather hoping we wouldn’t start things off quite so… dramatically, but can’t really overrule two fellow omicrons,” Clayton shakes his head again before turning to Elda. “Listen Acerbi, we’re going to need you on top of your game to keep these two chuckleheads form being shot to shit by whatever might be on the walls. Got it?”

Elda nods, lips pursed. “Yessir.”

“Good. This mission goes well Acerbi and you might be cleared for omicron too.”

Clayton claps his hands together. “Very well team. Normal pods, ‘cpet for you Acerbi, hitting the grounds, blitz through the complex. Don’t think you need telling twice to go hard on the explosives, Martian. Everyone just keeps your heads on straight and things will be fine. Let’s move out.”

The squad leader gestures with a free hand and indicates the squad forward to the drop bay. As the other three file out, you check your tactical rig to see everything is there.

STOP REINFORCING IMPOSSIBLE STANDARDS OF BEAUTY, PATRIARCH

You feel up your tactical rig, making sure that all your little toys are there. The M223 is stuck into a large shoulder holster, the OMP and tomahawk dangle off of your hip. Pirate gun shoved into a bandolier and the shield on your back, seems like everything is in order. You follow the other three mercs out into the drop bay, where the three pods, another dummy pod, and a fifth stealth pod all lie in wait. You clamber into one.

As the pods clang into the firing position you open a comm link with Elda. Her face appears in your HUD. “What do you want Ivan?”

“You get Marlena to promise to leave babbo to you?” Despite your best efforts, amusement at the ridiculousness of the italian pet name slips into your voice. Elda flushes slightly.

“Yes, yes I have. She was actually quite accommodating about it.”

“Awesome. See you soon.”

“Not before I see you,” Elda replies. A beat. You raise your eyebrow. “Because I’m doing overwatch, scemo, not stalking you.”

“Oh duh. Right.”

“Scemo,” Elda mutters as you cut the comm link. You’ve gotten what you needed to hear from her. You spend the rest of the ride down poking at bubbles in the impact gel, trying to see if they will pop from your probing finger. To your slight disappointment, they more or less split into two smaller bubbles in the wake of your finger. The Falconion eye really does remind you of shrooms.

Get out of here martian scum
>>
The jarring bump of the retro rockets firing draws you out of your reverie. silently, you squirm on your shield and place your hand on the grip of the OMP. Since you might be landing in the middle of a live fire zone, best to keep that bullet proof bit of ceramic mobile cover on hand. You’ve been shot before and it isn’t something you’re keen on reliving.

The retro rockets burn again. It feels like the seat is trying to force it’s way up your ass. You grunt in discomfort.

The pod lands with a loud thud. you imagine that you’ve probably just ruined quite a nice topiary. You bring up your tactical map. Clayton and Marlena have all landed in the same garden as you have. Seems to be one of those hedge mazes. Clayton’s head appears in your HUD. “Ivan, from the looks of things you’ve landed right on the edge of the maze. Marlena and I are inside and have some rudimentary cover. You can either stay in the pod until Elda has eliminated all possible hostiles in the area, or you can leave and draw fire.”

Your eye twitches. Advanced neural synapses trigger in response to the movement of hot lead through the air. You can see the bullets slicing through the air towards you before your brain can even register the fact that they’ve opened fire on your once more. Your arm rises, bearing the shield to intercept the incoming salvo, the order originating from the neurons in your spine, the result of thousands of hours of intensive training.

The bullets clatter against your shield like lead rain, splattering against the grounds. You step back with the force of the impacts, silently gauging their origin. Your free hand rises, bearing the OMP. A single controlled burst and one of the mafiosi goes down, a crimson trail following his body to the ground from where his head once was.

Another mafiosi is thrown off of the wall, limbs flailing in the air, and titanic hole in his chest. Less than a second later you hear the bang. Seems Elda isn’t half-assing her job. You raise your OMP once more and let loose a burst. The gun trembles a bit in your hand as the bullets spew out. Most unfortunately for you, they miss entirely, merely reducing some red roofing tiles into a cloud of fine dust.
>>
You fall back a bit, relocating behind the drop pod. Some bullets bounce off of the metal surface as you beat your retreat. Another loud bang followed by a wet smacking noise as something hits the ground. You lean out from cover, only for an instant. That is all you need to ascertain the position of the remaining mafiosi. Your hand snakes back out from cover and the OMP spews forth a burst of bullets in the general area of the hostiles. You hear a man scream and hit the ground. After a few seconds of silence Elda appears on the squad comm-link.

“Scanners are coming up blank. I believe we have eliminated all hostiles in the area.”

“Very good Acerbi,” replies Clayton. You gaze out towards the maze and watch as Marlena and Clayton burst forth from the hedges. Marlena beelines for the downed Mafiosi.

“I mean not really. But are you just gonna frag this guy without first getting some actionable intel?”

Marlena gives you what you assume to be a look. “Listen champ, we’ve only got so long to wrap up this mission, can’t be wasting time trying to interrogate every motherfucker we come across. Besides, a good coup de grace might earn us some style points from Steadfast.”

The force of the spaghetti blasting out of your pockets propels you up and to the side in a shallow parabolic arc. Well, that’s actually not true. it was your legs that did that. Internet references that are nearly three centuries old at the time of DAQ aside, you barely manage to dodge a rather large rocket propelled grenade as it wooshes through the air you once occupied. The projectile strikes the wall and explodes with incredible force. Were this an action movie from the 1980s you might’ve ridden the shockwave. Instead, that’s basically impossible and really you’re just lucky to be out of the radius for injury of the shockwave.

Elda comes on the comm link. “Two BARTs! They burst out from the side of the villa!”

You can see Clayton roll for cover behind your drop pod as he opens up the squad comm link. “Cover everyone,” his voice is controlled, but you can feel the stress behind it. “Elda, I need you to give me a read on what all they’re packing.”

As Elda does some long range recon you sprint for the next nearest pod that isn’t housing as aussie. As that turns out, that’s Marlena’s pod. The Martian mercenary turns slightly as you dive next to her.

“Spritely bastard ain’tchya?”

“Shut it.”

A random burst of heavy caliber machine gun rounds pling off of the pod. A few seconds later, Elda comes back on the squad link. “There are two BARTs. One is armed with a machine gun and grenade launcher, the other has a flamethrower and I think some sort of Buzzsaw. I think that one is a converted industry exo-suit.”

Let's go find GL+Machinegun and axe it a few questions.
>>
“Nah, you can have it,” best to be magnanimous, might help build up squad unity or something. Marlena chucks a smoke grenade to the left and immediately breaks out of cover in the opposite direction. You can hear the BART open fire on the empty garden. Smart. Well, for leaving cover while pinned down by an enemy with a massive machine gun it was about as smart as it could be. Marlena has buzzsaw, that leaves grenade launcher for you, somewhere on the other side of these topiaries.

Would the Pirate Gun's Elmo's Fire work on the BARTs?
>>
Rolled 2, 6, 10 = 18 (3d10)

>>35187782
So...we've got a pirate gun and two Elmo's Fire grenades. I vote for using them. Smoke can be defeated with sheer volume of fire and I don't want to charge in with just a shield for cover.
>>
>>35187782
Fire off a Elmo's Fire grenade with our pirate gun at the bart, then fire off smoke at it and flank it, get in close and AXE it sum questions.
>>
>>35187782
I'm fine with what Anon mentioned. Fire an Elmo's Fire, then a smoke grenade with our Pirate Gun then move in to flank the Bart so we can Axe it.

I want to climb on it and ax the driver in the face!
>>
>mfw slowly we accrue an army of BARTs

we need to invent an orbital small scale mass driver for Elda to snipe with from space so she can hang out with us when we play with our robots

Also, I am sorely tempted to draw up a .50RR SAPI round, if only I could draw...

You squirm around a little, pulling out your pirate gun and sliding in a St. Elmo’s Fire. You kinda wish they didn’t give everything such stupid pirate themed nicknames. Makes it hard for you to take this stuff seriously. Regardless, you follow Marlena for a short period of time before branching off, headed towards the glowing icon in your tac map, tagged courtesy of Elda. As you cut through the underbrush as stealthily as possible a few rounds coast over your head, a pants shitting reminder that there’s more dangerous things here than tiger shaped topiaries.

Grumbling to yourself about employee health plans, you roll out into the open and fire a St. Elmo’s. The pulse device arcs gracefully through the air, impacting on the front of the BART’s chestplate. As the humanoid exo-suit goes dead you fire a smoke grenade. It’s a good thing you weren’t really aiming at anything, because the projectile goes way off. Both of you are only partially obscured by the smoke.
>>
Cursing your random bouts of incompetence, you run into what little of the cloud you can and loop around to attack the BART. Your feet pound against the ground as you near the stilled giant and jump into a kick. This jump kick promptly misses. You can hear Elda sputter with laughter over the squad comm. You roll and recover, turning to face your armored opponent. By this time, the BART’s systems have rebooted and the pilot has control over the mech once more. The 8 foot tall titan of metal stomp forward and swings down towards your head hard with a karate chop.

You shift slightly to the side, catching the machine gun arm with your hands. You strain against the artificial muscles, your own equally unnatural ones fighting a ferocious battle against the BART’s synthstrands. Suddenly you turn around, your back to the BART, the arm now resting on your shoulder. You heave forward.

Your back strains against the impossibility of your request. You ignore it’s feeble complaints and continue on, planting your legs firmly into the ground. Like some sort of slow motion whale breaching, the BART lifts into the air.

You roar from the exertion. The metal feet are by your knees now. Your eyes bulge, they feel as if they might pop out at any moment. A vein in your head throbs ominously.

And then…

Gravity takes over. The huge suit smashes into the ground. You release the arm and stumble backwards a few steps before falling over onto your ass, panting loudly.

Shit was heavy.

After a few seconds of sitting, you pull out your tomahawk.

Using the knowledge you gained during some of your more intimate moments with BART-chan (don’t worry, you promised to take responsibility) you carefully open the pilot hatch, sliding the overlapping plates of armor aside to reach the compartment. As you drag the mafiosi out you chuckle and say “Man can you believe that worked?”

The mafiosi, thinking that perhaps he’s going to get off easy, chuckles and agrees with you. “Yeah, what was that, a suplex?”

“Yeah,” you reply, grinning. “And this is a tomahawk.”

There proceeded to be a great many wet crunching sounds.

Alright people, this seems to be a good stopping place for me. We'll pick up on Tuesday when we'll decide what we'll do with the BART and some other things before we get back to murdering SPEHSS Italians.

Heres my shitty online photoshop'd image (sorry about the jaggies) of my idea for a .50RR SAPI round for our revolver, the gold is the copper nose, the blue is a layer of future teflon coating stuff between the materials, to help get rid of friction, the grey are tungsten shards that help the projectile bite into armor then break off, the dark brown is densonium (insert random future SCIENCE dense metal) and the red is the incendiary compound

The idea is the copper nose helps it be stable in flight, the futureteflon layer helps them separate and the armor piercing core to bite into armor, the tungsten shards help guide it an then break off as shrapnel, and the super dense heavy core pushes through the armor, all while the incendiary compound burns and acts as a tracer and ignition source.
>>
>>35189867
I would personally go with more incendiary. Maybe twice the amount while removing from the dense stuff?

It'd be funny if there were Hollow-point bullets that still have enough penetration to punch through armor.
>>
>>35189945
>Maybe twice the amount while removing from the dense stuff?
Thats easy enough, just make the chamber for it longer and deeper into the core of the round, but not to far, we don't want to effect its ballistics and destabalise it
>>
>>35189867
>>35189992
thinking about it a bit, maybe you should remove the tip of the dense bit. I don't think it adds much to the weight or penetration anyway.

Replace it with a small amount of liquid/gas, like say that Illegal stuff from a few missions back?
>>
>>35190099
White Light, there we go.

>Magnesium and a gelling agent, burns through all tier one armors and blinds sensors too. That is about as lethal as it gets.
>>
>>35190099
>I don't think it adds much to the weight or penetration anyway.
Weight no, but its fucking critical to successful penetration, without it the round just crumples or bounces off the armor surface without effect.

I've seen tank crews reject long rods and refuse to take them in their loadout because of very minor blemishes and tooling errors on the penetrating tip, and this is on ammunition that costs a few thousand in materials and machining.
>>
>>35190099
Why put white light on the tip? That's stupid, it defeats the purpose of the round and effectively sabotages its performance.

Move the white light to the rear and replace the tracer/incendiary compound with the white light, that will do a better job
>>
>>35190175
>>35190195
Hmm, I stand corrected.

...Actually, I just realized how stupid that was, sorry.

>>35189867
Is the incendiary compound different from the propellant?
>>
>>35190220
>Is the incendiary compound different from the propellant?
It has to be, propellants for projectiles are insanely fast burning, but still a burn, they deflagrate instead of exploding, but incendiary compounds need to be even slower burning, otherwise they won't last for you to see and follow the rounds impact
>>
>>35190220
No problem anon, all of us have those moments, and this is rocket science.

Propellant must be different otherwise it burns up with the initial chemical reaction that pushes the projectile.
>>
>>35190283
Well there's not much else I can suggest, with what little I know about guns.

Maybe trick out the gun? I don't think Ivan has stylized it yet. Bear head gun hammer, miniature hologram projectors to make the gun look bigger than it is...
>>
>>35190371
We can do that for when we go Idol hunting next
>>
I'm just waiting for a mission we can use the BART on.
