The Imperium of Man has a saying: “Heresy grows from idleness.” After having been cooped up on The Raptor for several weeks, you were starting to see the merit in it. Even as a daemon. Like an itch that begged to be scratched, you needed to feel the rush of combat and the glorious act of spilling blood in Khorne’s name. The lack of a proper foe or challenge, however, meant that you had little else to do besides slowly smouldering.

Luck, or perhaps fate, finally smiled upon you in the form of a Space Hulk. Something aboard the metal agglomeration served to block all forward travel in the Warp. Going around was always an option, but your journey between the stars was already growing to be unbearably long. You didn’t even need the presence of Blood Ravens, Tyranids, and Rak’gol to leap at the chance to do something. All they did was sweeten the deal.

Well, mostly. It remains to be seen whether the Zoanthrope your daemon allies swayed properly deals with those irritating Ravens for you. If it survives and performs well, you might have a new ally. If not, you’d just have to tear the Marines apart with your own two claws. Either outcome is acceptable in your mind.

That matter aside, your current problem is The Obscenity Engine: An advanced spacefaring vessel, a remnant of some age long forgotten, laying in the belly of the beast. It’s the source of the disruptions in both the Materium and the Immaterium. Something worth claiming as your own if only for the novelty of it. There’s just one thing preventing you from doing so - The Rak’gol. A race of Xenos so feared by mortals that even speaking their name causes mass panic.

In other words, definitely something worth fighting. So you hope.

Welcome to Khornette Quest.

If you’re a die-hard lover of canon, I suggest you turn away now. Like all things 40k, the gauntlet runs from “worshipping the printed word” to “over the top silliness.” Most of the time it’s somewhere in between. You’ve been warned in advance.

All rolls go against a specified characteristic in the style of Black Crusade. You’ll want to roll under the characteristic value in order to pass the check. The more degrees of success (every multiple of 10 counts as 1), the more awesome of a result. A 1 is a guaranteed success, and a 100 is a guaranteed failure.

Best of three rolls when it’s called for, with a 1 or a 100 instantly taking precedence. If multiple characteristics are being rolled for, each 1d100 counts for its respective test. Any rolls prior to the call for one and those not linking said post will be ignored.

You may burn (i.e. gone forever) 10 infamy to completely reroll a check (i.e. three new 1d100). If you have above 10 infamy, you are allowed a single additional 1d100 roll for any check during a session.

If you have any questions/etc, now’s the time.I’ll push the first update in about 10 minutes. We’ll probably be rather combat heavy tonight, just so you know.

Excessive meta/whining/waifu’ing/etc goes to QTG. Blatant Samefaggotry will be ignored.

You may find this 4chanX filter list useful: http://pastebin.com/QxMu8Rrr

Tonight's drinking game: One shot each time I accidentally drop the trip.
>>
>>35413635
Why're we on a space hulk again anyway? Haven't been around for a few sessions I think, last time I was around we were thinking about pissing off some chaos Eldar
>>
>>35413778
A certain Slaaneshi whore made us change our way.
>>
Is this this the Khorne quest that is somehow ignoring Slaanesh?
>>
>>35413778

It's something to interrupt the monotony of Warp Travel. We had a one-shot of sorts that was really more a continuation of the normal quest just from Ignitrix's POV
>>
“So uh… how do we deal with that?”

The words are out of your mouth before you can really get a hold on your thoughts. Not much surprises a daemon much less impresses them. Even with your limited knowledge in the matters of the technological and of the Warp, you can tell by sight alone the value of what floats before you. It’s not a question of whether or not you’ll be claiming it as your own but how exactly you’ll be doing it.

Your first problem to deal with is the gap between you and the ship itself. The balcony Ignitrix, Acerea, and you are currently standing on is a few kilometers away from the Engine itself. Several umbilical-type pipes are attached to the exterior of the vessel like mosquitos trying to suck out its light. Some are probably a part of the Hulk itself but others are clearly Rak’gol in design. Or so Ignitrix has informed you anyways. You’ve only half-paid attention to her since first speaking yourself.

“And if you look carefully… there.” Your feathered companion points at an assemblage of scrap that’s circling the Engine. “You can see some of their skiffs. Hard to tell from here where they are originating from though. My guess knowing the Rak’gol? They blasted a hole large enough for one of their ships to worm through. That or there’s something on the other side of that ship we’re just not seeing.”

The xenos would be your second problem. You’re excited to see how the “multi-limbed, Ork-like terrors” fare in combat. Still, even from here, you’re able to tell that there’s a great deal of them swarming over the Engine. Charging in blindly will just lead to the three of you getting cornered and killed. You have no shame in admitting that much. Even a thousand flies can topple an elephant after all. And unlike the Tyranids from before these foes have actual weapons.

Agreed, Ignitrix should clone Cinder real quick.
>>
>>35413948

The quickest way to get to the Engine and through those Rak’gol (in your mind) is to commandeer one of those skiffs. It does mean relying on a questionable amount of speed and maneuverability. Or maybe razor-shells won’t hurt that much.

“Did either of you bring a weapon that’ll cross the gap? A launcher perhaps?” You’re not hopeful but it couldn’t hurt to ask. “I certainly didn’t.”

Both shake their heads in the negative. Ignitrix is the first to reply.

“I’m not so sure I could get a fireball all the way out there either. In normal circumstances that’d be rather difficult as it is. With that ship in its current state? I’m liable to tear a hole in reality.”

You’re no empath but you’re pretty sure that she’s equal parts embarrassed and annoyed. Her feathering isn’t quite flared out and she’s sporting a small scowl.

“Well we could try and throw this plant…” Acerea offers jokingly. Ignitrix’s mouth twitches upwards for a second.

“Hrm…” You muse on the problem while taking in more of the balcony. There’s a few idle crates that you could move around for cover but not much else. You could probably strip some scrap metal from the previous corridor if you wanted to. Still, not a whole lot of options.

“You know… it’s funny how a battlefield becomes a maze when you have no real way of traversing it.”

Ignitrix raises an eyebrow and looks at you as if you’d praised the Corpse God. “Who are you and what have you done with Cinder?”

You shrug with a hint of a smile on your face. “I’m allowed to make witty observations from time to time, aren’t I?”

“Eh, you’re not wrong. Just unexpected.”

“And we all know how much you hate that.”

She huffs and turns back to look at the Engine. “Every maze has a solution. I would know. Honestly? I think I can probably cause enough of a lightshow to get their attention. It wouldn’t just be one skiff though. We might end up with two or three or even more. If you think we can handle that… well it’s not the craziest thing we’ve done.”

Acerea waits to make sure Ignitrix is finished, then offers, “I know it’ll take longer but we should get our new friend to help. I don’t think time’s a very big factor here. Who knows how long this Hulk’s been here or how long those Rak’gol have been trying to get in.”

“Except you forget we’re also falling towards a Black Hole,” adds Ignitrix. “Though granted that could mean days, weeks, or even years.”

You tap your chin in thought. “If we do go back to check on this Zoanthrope, we might as well have the Raptor send over some weapons. Either way, sitting here thinking is accomplishing nothing.”

“Agreed.”

“Mhm~”

>>
>>35415363
Okay, so: Khorne is the god of blood, so his subjects would have some sort of blood powers.
Blood has air in it. So we just get a whole bunch of blood, then expel the air out of it, providing us with a means propulsion.
>>
>>35415533
Hey, do y'all think there's a White Khornette out there?
>>
>>35415161

Cracking your neck, you walk over to the nearest crate and easily heft it aloft with your daemonic strength. Whatever’s inside clangs loudly as you move the box over to some its fellows. In all, you end up with three “barriers:” two forming a sort of funnel at the front of the balcony and one right in the middle towards the corridor behind. You’re fairly confident the containers will take a few hits at least but you’d rather not push your luck.

Acerea takes up a position in the back. Ignitrix moves behind cover across from you at the fore, sword at the ready. You know she had used it prior during the brief skirmish with the Tyranids, but seeing her with it is odd in a way. A good kind of odd that makes you appreciate the fact she’s not wholly reliant on sorcery.

When she notices you staring, Ignitrix rolls her eyes. “I take it we’re ready then?”

“When are we EVER ready, Iggy?”

“...I’m not even going to answer that.”

Holding her sword aloft, the Lady of Change’s eyes flare with blue Warp fire. A second later a bright blue bird-shape erupts from the weapon’s tip and soars into the air above you. It’s easily the size of the shuttle you rode in on and definitely bright enough to be seen by the Rak’gol. The fire-being unleashes a caw’ing sound and explodes in a blinding roar harmlessly after a few moments.

“Well I think that worked,” says Ignitrix as she uses her sword to point out the three skiffs that have veered off from the rest of the circling mass. “And I’m rather glad I didn’t cause any disturbance…”

“MY PLANT!” cries Acerea. Looking back, you see that it’s withered and died.

“...Fuck.”

As much as she probably could use a headpat now, it’s probably not smart for you to move from cover to comfort Ignitrix. Instead, you settle for a few choice words.

“Hey you said it yourself - that ship’s messing with your powers. Not your fault. Just focus on the angry eight-limb monsters that are coming towards us. Then when they’re all dead I’ll give you a headpat.”

She perks up slightly from her brooding state at that. “I want three.”

“You’ll get two.”

“Deal.”

Now that that’s been handled, you’re able to focus on the three skiffs that are growing ever closer. You’re able to now tell that each has four Rak’gol. Eight of them have glowing axes, three have rifles being chain-fed by massive ammo packs, and one has a cannon that's more a glorified spike. The skiffs bearing the ax-wielders seem to be making a beeline for the balcony while the one with the others is hanging back.

You haven’t had much practice with the new function of your claws but now seems like as good a time as any. By focusing on them with your mind and giving them a quick flick, long chains of pure Warp energy flail out from the tips. They crackle and cast a red-ish glow over the immediate area before you step out from behind the boxes and swipe upwards across your body. The chains fly outwards towards the nearest skiff and almost immediately wrap themselves around the upper four limbs of a Rak’gol.

It screeches in alarm and begins flailing around in pain as the chains start to tighten and try to latch onto its fellows. You could easily pull it over to you, or you might be able to use it as an anchor to board the skiff.

Tactical Warp Chain Combat it is.

You'll be rolling 2d100 this time.

The first roll (versus a 42) will determine how much damage reduction you get while basically being a sitting duck.

The second (versus a 45) will determine how many shots (if any) will even hit you in the first place.

As you pour more concentration into your claws the insidious chains continue to fester outwards from the snared Rak’Gol. Given enough time, they’ll gain enough purchase on the skiff for you to hurl it into another. But that’s something you don’t have - time.

Those Rak’gol with the rifles immediately rasp in delight at having a target before them. Three barrels are leveled at you, followed by a torrent of wailing fire. You’re able to avoid one of the streams of lead but the other two fly true. Between your armor (natural and otherwise) and your daemonic toughness, it’s like enduring a thousand beestings at once. Said beestings still hurt, however (-4 wounds).

While you act as a bullet sponge, your allies also act. Ignitrix fires off a fireball towards one of the Rak’gol who’s trying to slice open its trapped fellow. He catches alight in blue flames and starts rolling about on top of the skiff.

Acerea though? She stands and roars a challenge as she throws the now-dead fern. “THIS IS FOR VERN!”

The plant flies remarkably well, either due to good aerodynamics or pure fury from the plaguebearer. It smashes squarely into the Rak’gol bearing the cannon, sending him off balance and causing the weapon to discharge. The Rad-beam fills the immediate air above the xenos but otherwise fails to hit anything.

With another tick of the clock, your improvised weapon is ready.

>>
>>35417058

For a moment, your muscles strain against the hovercraft’s engines. Then it shudders violently and sends the Rak’gol on top of it reeling. Like one would swing a bat, you take a step to the side, whirl your arms, and release your concentration. This sends the skiff careening towards the craft with the rifle and cannon bearers, much to both occupants’ dismay. The two vehicles collide violently, instantly killing three of the aliens as the entangled mass begins to spiral downwards.

By now the other skiff has reached the balcony proper. It doesn’t show any signs of slowing down whatsoever. Worse: it’s going to crash right into the side Ignitrix is on.

Moving with purpose you step into the oncoming vehicle’s path. You squarely plant your feet shoulder-width apart and squat slightly before putting your hands out in front of you. Mere milliseconds later the skiff impacts. Not only does it stop dead in your grasp, the Rak’gol on it are sent flying over your head to land in a tangled mass somewhere behind Acerea. They screech and immediately begin rising, but not before you and Ignitrix share a few words.

“I would have been fine!” she shouts, hopping onto the skiff to mess with the controls. The engine shortly thereafter stops trying to push the craft into you. “But at least you got us this! Now go help Acerea!”

“Was that a ‘thank you’? I think it was...”

“GO.”

You release your hold on the front of the skiff and whirl on your heels. Acerea’s already dodging three glowing axes. The other Rak’gol is still trying to pick itself up off the floor.

You close the distance between the aliens and yourself with three powerful strides. Between the swings of the blades mounted on polearms you step into the fray. Acerea flows with your motions and those of the Rak’gol, but you do notice she’s already sporting some wounds.

The first Rak’gol tries to cleave your skull open with a downward swing. You easily catch the radioactive bit of metal and shatter it betwixt your claws before delivering powerful kick to the creatures abdomen. It’s sent backwards a few feet with the remnants of its axe still in hand.

The second is a tad more cautious. It feints with a horizontal slice on the right before jabbing at your left. You push away the actual attack with your palms, the scraping of metal on metal only barely louder than the Rak’gol’s screeches. Thinking that this has left you vulnerable, the third xenos lunges at your back. Dropping low, you catch the axe on your horns. A quick twist of your head snaps the metal in twain and sends the creature off-balance into his fellow.

As for the remaining Rak’gol, it’s now upright and charging at you.

Much to your surprise, Acerea steps in front of the charging alien. For a moment you’re worried that she’s gone insane from the loss of the fern. Then you remember that, unlike you, her wounds heal extremely quickly. Plus that her hide is thicker than yours. As such, when the Rak’gol’s weapon gets stuck in her shoulder, you take the opportunity to leap forward and slice the alien to ribbons. Acerea grunts and pulls out the Rad Axe from herself, the wound already stitching itself back together.

“Together?” she asks. There’s a force hiding behind her eyes that makes you wonder if you should carry around more plants for Ignitrix to slay in the future.

“Together.” You reply, turning to the remaining three Rak’gol. They, of course, howl and leap at you without pause.

Even those without weapons are still a challenge to deal with. Like the Grey Knights you fought earlier, they’re more than capable of fending off your blows with their natural weapons. Though they obviously aren’t as effective as a Rad Axe, they’re still enough to leave you with a few new marks (-3 wounds).

In taking those marks, however, you’re able to behead or gore each in turn. A jab at your chest sees that same arm wrenched back to impale its owner in through the skull. A swipe at your feet is blocked by Acerea and gives you a chance to disbowel the alien in question. The final Rak’gol falls after nicking your right cheek. For him, you take great pleasure in clutching two arms in each claw, ripping them off, and then beating it to death with them.

Silence falls momentarily before being broken by the sound of a muffled explosion from somewhere down below.

“If you’re done playing around…” shouts Ignitrix, already turning the skiff around to face away from the balcony.

Acerea and you deftly hop up onto the flat surface of the craft without pause. Before you can do so much as brace yourself, Ignitrix has the skiff rocketing out into open air. You might be imagining things but you seem to be going faster than the Rak’gol were capable of. Of course, when there’s no real point of reference other than the massive vessel ahead of you, it’s hard to tell. Either way, you’re making good progress.

Progress that’s about to be cut off by more of the xenos. Quite a few of the flying scrapheaps are making a beeline for you, all laiden with Rak’gol wielding guns.

“Hang on!” shouts Ignitrix.

“TO WHAT?!” you reply, slamming your claws into the deck and grabbing onto Acerea just as she sends the skiff into an aileron roll. A hail of bullets tears through the air below you, along with a few skiffs. Ignitrix, without missing a beat, fires three fireballs in your wake. Each impacts a Rak’gol and sends their Razor Guns flying. By the time you’re upright you’ve got two of the twisted devices to work with.

You’re hoping between them, your chains, and Iggy’s driving that you’ll make it through that “cloud” of aliens ahead of you.

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD; let's win some skulls!
>>
>>35419926

“Here, cover me.” You pass off both Razor guns to Acerea and flick your wrists. Warp chains flicker into existence just as two skiffs, one to either side, pull up alongside you. The high pitched whine of their engines tells you that they’re close to overloading, but you’re more concerned with the fact the Rak’gol on them are holding Rad-Beam Cannons.

As they start to bring the weapons to bear, you cast out your arms wide. Your chains quickly wrap around the skiffs themselves but aren’t quite ready for you to pull on. Acerea’s ready to provide you assistance though. Her guns spit barbed slugs which tear through the Rak’gol and prevent them from getting a clean shot on you. None of the Rak’gol seem to die outright, despite several sporting wounds gushing with blood.

In all, it’s enough of a distraction for you to remain unscathed until your chains are firmly secured. Jerking your arms across your body sends the two skiffs spinning and slamming into each other right above you. The Rak’gol aboard are sent hurtling into empty space with loud screeches and cries. As for the twisted remains of the skiffs, you lasso it back towards you. Using it, you’re able to smack away a few more assailants and punch through the outer barrier of the Rak’gol swarm.

Now very much within touching-distance of The Obscenity Engine, you have only a few seconds worth of decision time to decide where to try and enter.

These Rak’gol have been fairly interesting and worthy opponents thus far. But now that you’re in the middle of what’s easily a thousand of them, you’re eager to no longer be on this vulnerable little barge.

“Ignitrix, what would happen if you tried to portal us into the ship?”

She opens and closes her mouth twice before replying, her eyebrows furrowed. “I can get us into one of the cargobays or airlocks but something WILL happen. Possibly a very bad thing.”

A Rad-beam slices your skiff-shield in two and makes your decision for you. “Do it.”

Moving away from the controls, Ignitrix begins weaving a controlled tear in reality. The moment it’s finished two things happen. First, every single bit of technology, including the skiff you’re on, overloads within 50 meters of Ignitrix. This causes the ‘ground” to drop out beneath both you and the Rak’gol as sparks shoot out from gun and vehicle alike. Luckily for you, you have a Lady of Change who can fly with you. She quickly dives and catches both you and Acerea before heading towards the stationary portal.

The second thing that happens? Ignitrix begins sparking with electricity. By the time the three of you are through the portal all of her feathers are stuck flared out. Even her hair’s standing on end. Of course, so is yours and Acerea’s.

“Well at least it was just that,” Ignitrix spits as she waves close the portal. “It’s going to take forever to preen my plumage though.”

You chuckle and take a look at your surroundings. Wherever you are on the Engine, it’s a square room lined with a grid pattern. Perhaps large enough to fit five blood dragons in if you packed them in tightly. There’s a single door leading from the room, though it’s only just big enough for someone of your size. Beside it lies what you assume is a data shrine or console of sorts.

“You can preen yourself all you like once we’ve got this boat out from the Hulk. You think you can get anything from the terminal over there?” You motion towards the door while trying rather hard not to laugh at how silly Ignitrix looks at the moment.

“I don’t see why not. It’s not like it’ll be some Rak’gol interface or AI or…” she trails off to a low mutter before walking over and doing her thing. After a few minutes, you hear a small sniff. “I was kidding you know. Why couldn’t you be some stupid machine spirit instead?”

“Uhhh… problem?” you ask, looking over Ignitrix’s back as her wings droop.

A sudden shower of sparks rains over her as the console explodes in her face. She’s not really harmed by it unless you count her pride. So maybe a little actually. “Yes. Yes there’s a problem. I’m apparently so offensive right now to the machine spirit or AI or whatever it is that it just burnt out this console to prevent me from using it. And I think it’s an actual AI too. No machine spirit I know is that quick or touchy.”

She turns and falls against the remnants of the terminal. You might be imagining it but her eyes seem slightly wetter than usual.

Were it anyone else you’d simply tell them to suck it up and to focus on the task at hand. Acerea and Ignitrix though? They’re basically the only two beings in the Universe you can actually rely on. At this point, you’re actually ready to call them friends. That in and of itself is a big step forward for you.

Doing your best not to seem like you’re storming over, you move to sit next to the upset bird while Acerea looks on. Her head droops into her knees before you can say anything though. “I’m fine. You don’t need to coddle me. Just rip open the door or something,” she grumbles.

“Nope. I’m going to sit here until you’re ready. We both are.” Acerea takes that cue to sit opposite you.

“But you’re a Khornate. You don’t do feelings and friends and shit like…”

You interrupt Ignitrix’s self-depreciating monologue before it can start by patting the top of her head. She immediately shudders and goes quiet. “Just because I like tearing things apart in the name of the Blood God doesn’t mean I can’t also stop to listen every once and awhile. I’d rather not make it a habit, though.”

“That’s her way of saying she likes us, Iggy.”

“I got that, thanks.”

A couple of minutes pass in silence. Ignitrix emits a couple more sniffs before finally saying, “It’s been awhile since I was reminded of my days on the run from the Inquisition. This is just like back then when I didn’t even want to breathe for fear of blowing myself up. And I’m a daemon now so it’s infinitely worse. This shouldn’t happen.”

Acerea is the first to reply. “Dear, we all know it’s this ship that’s causing your powers to go haywire. We knew that coming in. You shouldn’t beat yourself up like this because you’re right, you are a daemon.”

(cont)
>>
>>35422041

“She has a point,” you add. “I mean don’t get me wrong, if I suddenly started being as horrible at combat as that failure No-Horn, I’d be pretty upset too. But moping about wouldn’t make that problem go away. Only realizing my weakness and trying to fix it would.”

“W-Who are you and what have you done with…”

“Oh shush.” You pat her head again. “I’m just in a really good mood from actually getting a fight after so long. Like I said, I’d rather not make it a habit.”

“Sure…”

Another minute of silence, then, “I… I think that machine spirit from earlier on my data slate is still intact. I could try and use that on future terminals.”

“See? There you go. And you know what? I’ll bet there’s one on the other side of the door knowing our luck today.”

You nod at Acerea, who stands and moves to try and open the door. It automatically opens before her to a corridor running both to the left and right. The walls are just as pristine as the room you’re in, if not somehow shinier. The plaguebearer steps out and glances around, then says, “Yep! There’s one right here!”

Ignitrix sighs and pushes herself to her feet. You follow suit and trail behind her as she walks to the new terminal. She produces her data slate and begins interfacing with it. As she does, an interior map of the ship appears on the screen.

Hmm... On the one hand, if we go for the Warp disruption, we would be able to work our magic freely once we handle that. Then we can just work some Psykery and track down and portal to the AI anyway.

On the other hand, the Warp-disrupting-thing feels like a "final encounter" thing, the high point of this particular venture. So we might as well go for the AI first.

She tilts her head to the side. “Sure… It’s… there…”

The map spins and zooms in to a location in the stern of the ship on the upper levels. Just as you take a mental note of it the screen goes dark. “I take it it didn’t like us poking around.”

“Not at all. But we know where it is now so…”

Suddenly a klaxon begins sounding as the atmosphere in the ship begins to vent to pure vacuum. In the few moments before you lose the capability to speak aloud, you quickly shout, “Okay I’ve changed my mind - I will also be punching the stupid assemblage of wires when we get there.”

“As opposed to what?!”

“Letting only you do it, of course.”

“...”
