The rules are simple. After each post, there's a ten minute window of response. You're free to respond accordingly or add in with Write Ins. Responses that are too late won't be tallied or counted. Majority always wins.

As per suggestion, I'm going to change the Battle System so it doesn't seem so mechanical; that's to say, that you can give DP specific orders to use the environment to your advantage, along with searching for enemy weak points. Training Sessions require a roll of 5d10 for five sessions. The first three posters will count, and then be averaged. The average will have an automatic +2 due to having the Training Manual in your possession.
>>
You’ve spent the last couple of moments commending DP on his efforts, but goddamn was it tough to sit that battle out. It makes you antsy to sit back on the sidelines and not do anything, though Hiro’s advice from before is understandable. DP seems pleased with being able to protect you, and if anything, he’s gotten stronger from the experience.

It’s actually embarrassing that Hiro’s Digimon is only a baby—even then, he’s stronger than DP. You reason that you and DP aren’t at that level yet because you’re a new Tamer. You’ll get there, eventually. After all, you reason, Hiro's been at this longer than you have.

Of course, that's no excuse why you shouldn't be able to catch up at some point.

“Hey, are you listening?” Hiro asks you, lulling you out of your thoughts. “I was just asking if you wanted to check out the memorial with me.”

“Memorial?”

Hiro shrugs at you a little. “I’m not too familiar with it either. It’s supposed to be an area protector of some kind, but more importantly, I wanted to register the location data of this place—which is needed by Birddra-Transport. About that--” He starts again, thus saving you the grief of having to ask a question as Richard floats up and sits on his head and chirps. “Basically, it’s a flight service that’ll take you to different places around the island, but apparently, all of the places I knew before are gone. So was the original owner, for that matter…”

“Is the memorial guarded?”

“Not to my knowledge, no.” Hiro shrugs again. “In case if you saw that lady with the glasses, she says that they’re safe now. It seems like they were targeted in the past by a virus of some kind because they’re key to the island’s stability or something, but… wait.” Hiro pauses, stopping as he looks towards what you can assume is towards the direction of the memorial. “Something just occurred to me. They told you Analogman’s plan was to blow up the island, right?”

“Yeah.” You look at him wonderingly. Why is he bringing back that topic? Is everyone out to roping you into that stupid tournament?

“You said that you thought Analogman’s tournament was a trap, right?”

“Obviously.” You nod. You don’t feel a need to explain everything before, but it seems like Hiro is considering your argument carefully. DP looks over to him with a puzzled expression.

“Why bring that up?” He asks, tilting his head as Poyomon chirps again.

“…” Hiro looks as if he’s come to a realization. “Do you think Analogman would target the Memorials, too?”

“Well, if the memorials are area protectors, they are probably the core of each area.” You nod, with a concerned expression. “Considering that he plans to blow the island they do look like a likely place for him to set up bombs.”

“Not only that concerns me.” Hiro shakes his head. “Forget about the tournament. I don’t think it’s a trap, I think he’s using it as more of a distraction to the others.” Hiro pauses, trying to elaborate. “You know what I mean— ‘Get a bunch of high-class tamers to fight each other.’ ‘Take on the victor at the pinnacle’.” Hiro looks as if his mind has been blown. “He never mentioned the part that he’d be blowing up the island as everyone fights each other.”

“So… y-you’re saying that Analogman might just destroy everything while everyone’s exhausted?” DP asks.

“You know, I really don’t want to say this, but I FUCKING KNEW IT.” You seethe, before glancing to Hiro. “Still, just to be sure…”

“Let’s check it out.” Hiro nods, with a grave expression.

With that decided, the both of you warily enter the memorial entrance. It seems, the memorial itself is hidden in a gorge beyond Railroad Plains. Hiro and Richard are on one side behind a knoll, while you and DP are hidden behind a cliffside. As you lay low and gesture for DP to stay quiet, you raise your head and try to see take a glimpse of the memorial.

The Memorial isn’t like an obelisk; it looks more like a gravestone, albeit bigger in size. It seems to emit a light, green glow from the spot on the center. However, that’s not the only thing that catches your eye.

You see a giant, mechanical and serpentine monster curled around it.

“Well, fuck.” You hiss under your breath. That thing is easily seven times bigger than DP, and looks like it could swallow Hiro’s Digimon whole. As strong as Hiro’s Digimon was, could you really stand a chance against it? "Do you have any idea why that thing is in here? The purple and gunmetal grey color scheme doesn't exactly scream 'Righteous Guardian of a Sacred Place'.”

You glance down to your partner. “No offense to you, buddy.”

“None taken.” He shakes his head as he whispers to you. “I don’t even look like that…”

Still, Hiro appears to look over at the Digimon, and scratches his head with a perplexed expression.

“… It could be friendly. You remember what Bauki looked like before, didn’t you?” That aside, Hiro doesn't seem to believe in what he just said. He glances over to you and shakes his head. “That’s a Gigadramon; a Perfect-level Digimon. In the case that it /isn’t/, it might be in our best interests to leave it be.”

“Why?” You question. "Are Perfects really hot shit?"

“Back in the day, they were. Challenging a Perfect with a Child and a Baby isn’t exactly the smartest of moves.” Hiro says, appearing regretful as he pats his Poyomon’s head. “If Bauki were here, we could have taken him down no sweat, but as things stand… Maybe we should tell the others. Maybe even get them to reconsider the tournament.”

“Hey…” DP nudges you. “Let’s go back and tell everyone.”

“Let’s at least try to talk to him.” You reason. “If that’s really the memorial guardian, there’s no reason for him to attack us.”

“B-But if he does?” DP stammers, looking at you with fearful expression. Were Perfects really strong? Granted, Gigadramon is gigantic and has two giant fucking canons. Those wings… could it fly too? In hindsight, maybe if it were an enemy, fighting wouldn’t be exactly the brightest idea.

With a sigh, you relent to your partner and glance to Hiro.

“You’re right. Let’s head back.”

--

After making a short trek to the city, Hiro stops in front of Jijimon’s house.

“I’m going to tell him what we found out.” He says, nodding his head with a determined expression. “I’ll try to find out new information too on what’s happening and if the others haven’t started the tournament yet. Hopefully not, if your suspicions are right.”

“Good luck convincing them.” You say, halfheartedly as you try not to scoff. “They wouldn’t believe me.”

“Maybe Jijimon will believe me, then.” Hiro pats your shoulder. “Let’s exchange contacts, though. Just to keep in touch.”

How can you say no to that?

>You obtained Hiro’s contact!

Shortly after, Hiro heads inside Jijimon’s house, thus leaving you and DP by your lonesome. You feel tempted to follow him inside, but at the same time, you don’t want to. Last time you were there, you didn’t exactly make a shining first impression. Still, what could you do on your own?

You stand around awkwardly for a couple of moments as you internally debate what to do. Despite whatever you think of, your attention falls back to that door.

Fuck it. You already patched things up with Akiho, right? Might as well try to salvage things… If not for your sake, then for DP’s. You walk up to the doorstep tentatively, with your partner trailing just behind you. As you shoot him a glance, he gently nudges you forward in a gesture of unspoken encouragement.

“So, what are the odds of me fucking this up again?” You laugh, seeing as it’s the best way to deal with that tinge in your chest. DP only tilts his head at you, before nuzzling you reassuringly and saying the thing that you might have wanted to hear since getting here.

“I believe in you.” DP nods. “And if they say anything b-bad, f-fuck them.”

You taught your partner how to swear. You feel accomplished that he’s learning from you. That aside, you open the door.

Inside, you can see Hiro, Jijimon, and that lady with the glasses—Mirei was her name, wasn’t it? At either side of her, you can see an Angelic-looking Digimon, and a Lady Devil that could be considered the Angel’s opposite. As much as you’d like to keep your eyes on them, you cough once you realize that all of them are looking at you.

You notice however, that the others you met briefly the time before are nowhere to be seen.

“So, is it true?” Jijimon speaks. You can’t tell if he’s looking at you because he has no face to speak of, but it seems like he is. “Hiro was just telling Mirei and I that you both found a Perfect-Level Digimon around the Railroad Plains Memorial that wasn’t Monzaemon.”

“So Gigadramon isn’t the Memorial Guardian?”

“Heavens, no!” Jijimon answers, alarmed. “Gigadramon is a Digimon that’s notorious for ruining computer systems with its viral nature. The residents of this town have Digimon of many types including Viruses, but Monzaemon is Railroad Plains’ guardian.”

DP just fucking saved your ass, that’s for certain. You pause to pat his head, before reinitiating the conversation.

“Do you think Analogman has something to do with the appearance of that Gigadramon?” Hiro asks.

“I see no reason not to be suspicious.” Mirei speaks up, her eyes expressionless. “The Memorials store the data of segments of the island. If anything should happen to them, the worst will occur.”

“That’s fantastic.” You say sarcastically. “How many of these Memorials are there on this island, anyway? How many guardians are there, and how can we reach them?”

“Digi-itter or email is the fastest way to communicate in the Digital World.” Mirei responds, almost robotically. “Railroad Plains, as mentioned before had Monzaemon guarding it.

“Respectively, Signpost Woods, Submerged Ruins, Ancient Bone Swamp, Underground Waterway Labyrinth, Fluorescent Cave, Gravel Wasteland, Night Canyon, Boncano Volacano, Powdery Cliff, and Binary Castle are guarded by as follows: Jyureimon, Whamon, Lilamon, King Sukamon, PlatinumNumemon, MegaloGrowlmon, WereGarurumon, BanchouLeomon, Darkdramon, and Seraphimon.”

“Which makes eleven Memorials in total.” Hiro summarizes. “But, what do you suggest is the best course of action, Jijimon?”

(Cont.)

>>35980136

“Taking back the memorials!” He nearly shouts, as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world. “If destroying them is what Analogman plans to do, we cannot allow him to succeed at any cost!”

"No kidding. But as things stand with Analogman infecting Taiga, Nicolai, Akiho, and Rina's digimon with viruses and setting them back to rookie, we don't really stand much of a fighting chance." Hiro takes off his beanie and scratches his head with a perplexed expression. "I'm having a minor setback as well."

“And yet, if we don’t participate in his tournament, he will destroy the island anyway.” Mirei sighs, looking on with a slight frown. Shortly, she glances over to you. “It seems you were right.”

Anyone who still has evolved digimon will participate in the tournament. Everyone else is "seeded" to "give them more time to train"

Then ACTUALLY train, but stop earlier than expected to take half or so of the Memorials at the same time. After that, it's a race against time to take the other Memorials. The "preliminaries" will try to engage Analogman to stall, I guess.

It would be a bit meta to say "train until adult"

“Should we forgo the tournament and focus on fucking up Analogman’s plans?” You pause, before shaking your head. Fuck, this was really a complicated situation. “Nevermind, I take that back. Me being right about the tournament doesn’t change that this a fucked situation.”

“If we fight in the tournament, he’ll send out his mooks to take over memorials while we’re occupied.” Hiro shakes his head. “If we don’t fight in the tournament, he’ll destroy fragments of the island until we do. Is this how it’s going to be?”

“Wait.” You say. “I have a plan.”

“What do you have in mind?” Mirei asks, looking at you as her partners float about her.

“We keep up the tournament—just to distract Analogman.” Why didn’t you think of this sooner? “Mirei, what level are your partners?”

“Perfect. Both of them.” She responds. “Why ask?”

“That cun—I mean, Yuuya has a high-level Digimon too, doesn’t he?” Before she can answer your rhetoric question, you continue on. “You get you and your partners to fight him whenever that battle takes place, while everyone else has Child-Level Digimon and below. Basically, seed the tournament for the other five—to buy time for Hiro and the others to get stronger.”

(Cont.)
>>
>>35980824
“That’ll stop him from blowing up the island, but in regards to taking back the memorials…” Jijimon goes on, before pausing. “Didn’t you count yourself in the tournament?”

“I didn’t. I counted Hiro, because I’ll be scouting Memorials with DP.” You respond. “I’ve made my stance clear; I’m going to train a little more, and then I’m going to head over to Signpost Woods to check that Memorial and the situation there. If everything is fine, I’ll send a message and head off to the next one. If not, I’ll try to defeat the impostor, or warn you all and head to the next one. How does that sound?”

"It seems plausible. If you are uncertain of your victory, you could call for one of the others to aid you in battle before moving on." Mirei comments. "They could "train" with you, so to speak."

“I wouldn't be against helping out. After all, It’s risky to visit all eleven of those sites alone.” Hiro looks on at you with a concerned expression. He’s not admonishing you for your choice, but it seems he’s warning you that what you’re choosing is going to be difficult.

The Coliseum Gym is a modest place; it has a boxing ring where currently, two beetles seem to be fighting each other in a sparring match. At the ringside is a cactus with boxing gloves, who quickly diverts their attention to you. Surprisingly, the Cactus has a girly voice.

“Hello! I’m Togemon. Is this your first time here?”

“Yes. I’ve trained at the other Gym before, though.”

“I see. Well, if you need help then, feel free to ask!” She smiles oddly, before heading back to the ringside as an orange beetle ends up flipped on its back. Damn.

You three averaged out to 4, but got bumped up to 6 with the training manual in your possession. Calculating DP's updated stats and posting in a bit.
>>
>>35981926
Well, that didn’t go as badly as you thought that would. You look on at DP’s improved stats with a satisfied expression.

HP/MP: 1385/1385 | 964/964 → 1860/1860 | 964/964
ATK: 90 → 105
DEF: 72 → 87
SPD: 73 → 112
BRN: 104 → 113
It seems his Defense is a little lackluster at the moment, but it can be improved with time. As you look over to your partner, you can easily tell he looks tired. You glance through the training manual, you see a note emphasizing the importance of allowing your Digimon to rest after training for a long period of time consecutively. With that in mind, you head off to the meat farm to get DP a well-deserved meal.

Still, you're a little surprised how much time passed while you were training with him. It's nearly sundown, now. After paying Palmon and obtaining dinner, you take a meat for yourself and hand a big meat to your partner.

“We did a lot better this time, didn’t we?” He looks up to you, with a happy expression.

“Somehow we did.” You respond. Training that first time was a bigger bitch than you ever expected it to be, but right now, you feel relieved when you see that the both of your efforts are paying off. That goal doesn’t seem like an impossible one, now. With a curious expression, you look at him. “So, DP.”

“Yes?”

“What do you want to do now?”

He looks a little puzzled at the question, so you decide to speak up.

“We’re partners, remember? I figure since we got all that troublesome stuff out of the way, we should do something that you want to do for a change.”

“I-I’m fine with anything you want to do…” He says quietly as he nibbles on his food.

“Hey, come on. You’re my partner, not my pet.” You nudge him. “We’ve went with what I wanted to do so far. Hell, you even agreed to going with me to scout Memorials. For all the crazy shit we’re going to do later, what’s something you want to do now?”

He hums quietly to himself in contemplation.

“I’m really fine with whatever you want to do, honest.” DP shakes his head. “I don’t think you’re really treating me like a pet, if you’re worried about that.”

“We’re partners, I know.” You respond. Notably, he has been more vocal about what he thinks, and he even stopped you from probably getting killed by that Gigadramon today. Speaking of that, eventually, the both of you might have to go back and take it on some time. The prospect of that excites you and almost terrifies you, but you wouldn’t say that aloud. Maybe you can get through scouting Memorials without getting caught by Analogman’s henchmen.

Maybe you could just go around exploring with DP like you’ve been wanting to. But then again, doesn’t your partner want to trounce him?

“Hey, you know what?” DP starts. As night begins to fall, you can see that he’s already getting sleepy. “I think, I want to stay with you when this is all over. So…” He pauses, to yawn. “Let’s go train tomorrow, and get stronger… so we can take on… anything…”

“Go to sleep, buddy. I’ve got you.”

Nodding, your partner sits on the ground and curls up into a ball. Carefully, you pick him and swaddle him in your coat before carrying him back to Jijimon’s house. At this point, all the in-training Digimon and younger seem to return to their own homes and houses. You’re actually a little spooked when you see a ghost appear out of nowhere, but it harmlessly continues on its way—is it making rounds or something? Weird.

After securing a safe spot to sleep for the night at Jijimon’s house, you leave DP in your arms and drift off to sleep yourself. You think about what you’re going to do for the next day—will you train more, and then take DP out to Signpost Forest again?

You remember that you went there with him already and fought that robot to submission. He almost died back there. Ah, but it’ll be different this time around. You think that as you drift off.

You had a dream of DP evolving… but you can’t remember what he evolved into. It makes you wonder what kind of Digimon he’ll become when he evolves… you’ve only seen Hiro’s Digimon evolve at this point.

“I was thinking about heading up to the shop to get healing items.”

“Mmm.” He nods, hopping off of your lap. After, the both of you exit Jijimon’s house, and start towards the direction of the store. “That’s a good idea. Because we’re going out to explore Signpost Forest today, aren’t we?”

“Just to check if things are clear.” You nod. “If they aren’t, we’re going to head back and tell Jijimon that the guardian’s not there either. What was it supposed to be again? Cherrymon?”

“Jyureimon.” DP corrects you. You shrug in response.

“Whatever, it sounds the same.”

As the both of you enter the store, you check your phone to see how much bits you have—a decent sum of 1800 bits, because of your previous battles. You still have several of the meats you bought previous in your phone too, so you don’t have to worry about needing food later. What should you spend it on? (Select what you think you may need.)

With that done, you walk out of the store and check your inventory. They gave you 9 HP disks for all your money. In addition to that though, it seems you still have three 3 HP disks that Akiho gave you back then, which makes 12 in total. You feel pretty confident.

“So, buddy. You ready to head out to Signpost Forest?”

“Yeah!” He nods.

And so, you navigate back through the city, exiting through the east sector to find yourself at the familiar opening. As you wander in you find yourself reminded of the first time you had brought DP here—unprepared, and without items.

This time was different. Which is why, as you step forward, you aren’t afraid—but you’re not idiotically overconfident of yourself either. DP trails at your side, glancing around at a couple of stray signposts, and trying to read them for directions—presumably to the memorial site, maybe, but you don’t know if things will be so convenient. You look around the area as he does that.

You walk over to the tree unassumingly, but the apples you see on the ground aren’t really bruised at all. It’s a little strange, but you see that the apples have happy faces on them, of all things. Then again, you’re already acquainted with the meat farm, so smiling apples aren’t really surprising.

Before you touch them, you glance back to the bug with the red shell you saw before. It seems to be minding its own business, and DP is still trying to read the signs. “Yo.” You call out to the bug. It turns around to look at you, but it doesn’t seem hostile like that bulky robot from before. “Are these free picking? And safe?”

“Yes.” It answers unassumingly. Now that you notice, it seems to be eating a banana. Huh. “The fruit from this forest is abundant. No one really fights over it unless it's a Gold Acorn or Gold Banana.”

“Huh. Sweet.” You say, as you pick up the two fruits. One for you, one for DP you suppose—when he gets hungry, anyway. Speaking of DP, he walks back to your side, with a perky expression.

“You found Nico Apples?”

“I guess I did. What do they taste like?” You say, as you store them inside your phone. “Also, did you figure out where to go?”

“They taste sweet. They say they grow with smiles because they’re smiling at their own sweetness.” DP nods. “Also, east! And then… I don’t know. Let’s go look around!”

You hug the trees and walk by their stumps, picking up things that both look out of the ordinary and edible. Jesus Christ, this forest is a fucking goldmine.

>Obtained Nico Apple x1, Energy Lemon x1, Spiny Green x2

You wonder if this stuff will sell. It’ll be a good way to get back money, at any rate. Along the way, you notice that DP seems hungry. To satiate his hunger, you hand him one of the apples you found and continue on your merry way. That aside… when you finally arrive to what appears to be an extremely large tree, you stop and take another look around. The forest has many winding paths with signs to accompany them. Just how big is this forest anyway?

The Digimon seem to all be plant-based. Interesting. Nothing has attacked you so far; maybe you’re just getting lucky this time by keeping your distance.

“Hey…” DP chimes up, his ears perking. “Do you hear that?”

“Hear what?” You glance around, unsure of your surroundings now. DP’s ears continue to twitch, as he looks towards the direction of a barely noticeable crack in the roots of that giant tree. It seems big enough for a person to slip through, but at this point, you’re on your guard. Going through there seems like a bad idea, especially if that’s the way to the memorial site.

Rather than go through the crack, you urge DP to hold onto you as you begin to grab onto nearby signposts and hoist yourself up the tree. It’s a painstaking climb, but you manage to grab onto a notched sign and hoist yourself up and into the branches. DP hops off of you and tugs you up. As you look down from your current position, you can see the memorial just below.

Like the one in Railroad Plains, it sits at the end of a clearing. That’s not the only thing you immediately notice; the noise that escaped you previously seems so much louder now, to the point where you can make it out clearly. It sounds like a monkey? It sounds like it’s coming from the same tree you’re in, actually…

As you lay low in your position with DP at your side, you finally hear.

“Thank you, thank you very much!” A flamboyant… monkey man shouts down below, with a microphone at its mouth. Is it making an Elvis impression? What the fuck? “Your contribution will not be forgotten by yours truly—“

“Enough with the monkey business!” Another voice? As you peer down and adjust your position, you see a girl with green hair, and a little blue dragon next to her. Rina? “Give V.V.’s food back right now! We found it first!”

“No can do, sweetheart.” It laughs, almost cackling and it teasingly holds a banana out to Rina. “This forest is mine now~ So is your food, thank you very much~”

“Ohhh! You’re the worst!” Rina grumbles, stamping her feet and pointing up. “V.V., use Hurricane!”

While part of you was actually expecting a hurricane to occur, nothing happens. Slowly, her partner tugs her jacket and shakes his head with his palm to his face.

“… Rina, does it look like I have wings right now?”

“Super Evooooolve! Super Evolve, V.V.!” She looks incredibly frustrated at this whole ordeal, and the monkey only laughs at her. If there’s one thing you can agree on, it’s that this monkey is fucking irritating.

Quietly, you motion to DP to follow you. As you lay low, keeping quiet as humanly possible, that stupid monkey continues laughing and chattering from the tree top, grabbing on the branch and shaking the tree with every single one of its motions as it dangles the banana out with its other hand. Because of that, it can’t tell that you and DP are right behind him…

And you and DP tackle that fucking monkey right out of the tree.

You unexpectedly lose your balance, but from where DP is clinging to you, he grabs another branch to keep you both from falling completely. With your balance stabilized you retreat back into a more stable part of the tree, and you look down. You see that the monkey has faceplanted into the ground, but the banana it was holding is still intact. Rina and V.V. are looking up to where you are with a startled expression.

You quickly strike a pose as she lays eyes on you, but that aside, you yell down to her as you attempt to figure out how to make a descent out of this fucking tree without breaking every bone in your body. DP by now has jumped off of you, out of your line of sight. You think about yelling at her to grab the banana, but asking this seems more important.

“You okay!?”

“Yeahhh, I’m fiiiine!” She waves to you and gives you a thumbs up. Moments later, you’re taken by surprise as the monkey starts to get back up to its feet, only to be punched squarely in the face by V.V.. As the monkey hits the ground again, the banana this time goes flying out of its hand, close to where the memorial is.

“That hurt---!” The monkey screeches.

“DP, looks like that guy wants a fight. He seems pretty fucked up from that fall we just gave him, so I think we have a fighting chance.” You say quickly, gesturing that he get down there as you turn around. You hear the ripping of metal, once you realize that your partner went and ripped out a yield sign out of the tree for you. As he spits it out of his mouth, he nods.

“Will you be okay getting down by yourself?”

“What’s the worst that can happen?” You ask. Before DP can answer, he’s interrupted by a shout.

“V.V., punch him! Punch him good!” You hear Rina yelling, but V.V. otherwise manages to follow her directions. Unfortunately, the monkey snaps out of it, and… you never would believe it otherwise, but produces a pile of literal shit out of thin air. Rather than throw it at Rina like you partly expected, it throws it at you.

No time to think. You quickly snatch up DP and the yield sign he brought for you and slide down the trunk of the tree. You try to kick off the tree, but you can’t manage the action and end up falling into a bunch of ferns.

DP immediately recovers and rushes out to fight while you recover the sense of feeling in your legs. Rina, on the other hand, is exuberantly yelling out commands to V.V. from a safe distance—you note, that it seems she’s trying to get V.V. to distract him.

“Etemon, over hereee~! V.V., hit him and make him go “BAAAAAAAAM”!” She yells. To be fair, her yelling is extremely distracting too—you don’t even know if that really counts as an order. Regardless, V.V. kicks his legs and immobilizes him briefly, just as DP rushes into the fray and headbutts Etemon’s stomach. While it seems to hurt him, Etemon’s still not staying down.

As you regain the feeling in your legs, you stay put momentarily to see if there’s any kind of hindrance in Etemon’s form.

For one—the first thing you notice right off the bat as DP headbutts him again is that his sunglasses are cracked— most likely from the fall he suffered from earlier. Maybe he can’t see properly? Two—it seems he’s disoriented from being punched in the face by V.V. so often. Damn, that little bastard is unrelenting. Or is that because of Rina?

“Pow!” She yells, uppercutting the air as V.V. smashes his head against Etemon’s. “V-Headbutt~!!”

Unfortunately, even that’s still enough. The only reason you and Rina are doing well, you think, is because you one-upped him in that instance. Right now, it seems like both DP and V.V. aren’t letting him have a chance to attack—maybe it’s because they know that if they do, it’ll be over.

“DP, aim for his legs!” You shout. At that moment, Etemon yelps.

“What the hell!? You two are some seriously pragmatic fighters! Where’s the love?!”

“You’re the one who’s playing dirty by throwing poo!” Rina points accusingly.

“I guess I’ll just have to bring it back…” He shouts, flexing his arms and shoving both V.V. and DP away from him by making his arms into the shape of a heart. “--With a LOVE SERANAAAAAADE~!!!”

Immediately, literal hearts spark out of him. DP is only grazed—but even then, it seems like he’s taken bad damage. V.V. takes a direct his, causing him to fall away to the side. Rather than stay back, Rina runs over to his side and begins uploading HP Disks to him rapidly. For good measure, you follow suit and bring DP back to speed, but things don’t look good for Rina, presently. As you glance to your phone, DP’s “Finisher” icon is shining.

“Get him, DP!” You yell. In response, DP roars as threateningly as he can. “Metal Canon!”

In that moment, DP shoots a giant cannonball at Etemon—once again, aiming for his legs as you directed previously. While the attack manages to hit him squarely and succeeds in knocking hat monkey to its knees, it doesn’t seem like it’s enough—but it IS enough to get him to back away from Rina. You attempt to follow through by smashing your sign into Etemon’s face, and you succeed in partly.

He blocked you with his hand.

Shit.

Before you can react, Etemon throws you against the memorial—you hear DP shout your name as you crash against it.

It hurts.

You can barely think as you try to catch your breath, and yet, you can feel something humming to life inside of you.

As you lift your head up, you can see Etemon walking towards you, with its broken glasses shining in the filtered sunlight. You feel…

“How the hell are you still standing!?”

The thrill of the fight sparks in your mind as you hear that shitty Elvis impression. Even now, you can feel yourself rising up, even if you back is slightly pressed against the memorial and your breath is ragged. You can’t feel the pain anymore.

More than that, though—you feel the desire to survive.

You can’t die here.

You’re going to go home with DP.

After all of this crazy shit with memorials and Analogman is done and taken care of, you’re taking him home and nothing will stop you from achieving that end.

It’s the reward your partner wants.

It’s what you want.

You’ll be damned if you let it end here.

“Now Or Never, faggot.” You laugh mockingly, raising your arms up in a pose that exemplifies your utter defiance to this bastard in the monkey suit. You give him the finger to add to the insult.

“I’ve about had it with you—“ He seethes. “I’m going to kill you an—AAGHH?!?”

It’s almost a blur—quite befitting of the phrase, “Now or Never”.

You know you thought you yourself that you always wanted DEEP PURPLE to stay the same, but if he didn’t change… that wouldn’t be the essence of evolution, would it? Even still… you wish you could have seen him change to start like you did the first time.

It’s a bit of a shame; he doesn’t quite fit his name anymore, but you don’t think it matters too much.

Not when he’s faster than anything you’ve seen.

You didn’t think those little wings of his would grow like that.

His growl is much fiercer than it was before—and you can’t help but grin as you hear your partner roar.

“AMBUSH CRUNCH!”

A ringing in your ears drowns out the noise. With a surprising brutality you never thought that DP had in him, but even you’re shocked to see your partner go straight for Etemon’s neck. His teeth rip through Etemon’s suit with alarming ease as he proceeds to shake and throw him aside. Is he like that because he’s fighting for your life right now?

… How badly hurt are you?

Huh.

When did you start looking at the sky?

When did Rina get to you?

You manage to get a grip on yourself and sit back up—granted, you’re leaning against the Memorial for support, like before. Rina looks pretty alarmed and panicked like she’s on the verge of crying, but it seems she’s also looking slightly relieved. You still hear a ringing in your ears that makes it hard to hear what she’s saying, though.

“Thank… your head... not bleeding…”

Bleeding? Why would you--

...

Ahh… you were so into the fight that you never realized that when Etemon slammed you into the memorial, you must have hit your head hard. Fuck.

You feel incredibly dizzy, but you try to keep your eyes on DP. You had to keep awake and fight along with him… Though, he looks pretty badass there.

As your vision fails you for a moment, you see that DP has released Etemon from his jaws and has him pinned.

Try as you might, your vision keeps fading in and out. You hear Rina and DP—at least, you think it’s DP—calling for you.

... He looks big now. You wonder if you'll be able to carry him.

... Damn it.

You can’t keep awake anymore.

Ending it today because We've been questing since 10AM PST. I need to sleep.
