Good question see normally it doesn't eating stuff is usually just eating stuff. But when that thing is a consciousness that's held together by a mana field they're essentially sentient energy. When that energy is absorbed by whoever is eating it, it leaves an imprint of the psyche. Nothing that would allow the spirit in question to be reborn, but may cause the person to pick up the slightest of mannerisms due to the mana mixing, like a drop of ink in a pot of water. To extend the metaphor further such a process could be stopped if one were able to see the mana field they would be able to form a filter that would allow the raw magical energy to pass without the latent psionic imprint that was left on it. Such an affect could be achieved with an ability such as Spelleye.
