You are the Lizard of the End. Harbinger of the Great God Lizard's Return and herald of the Boiling of the World. Alternatively and more likely you're the reincarnated form of someone's pet iguana shoved into the brain of a shiny new lizardling.

When we last left your attempts to penetrate the mysteries of Dad's job were foiled by it being really hard to hold onto a diving lizard. Now you have to face the music, in this case a very angry looking auntie. Your siblings look on in amusement while Auntie's friend Kuru makes sure none of them pulls a you.

The magic of surrender and punishment deflection.

In the corner of the hut you were deposited you face down your dear aunt. Her stern glare makes it clear that she expects something from you. You have no idea what, you can only make the odd chirping noise and bask like the 2010-2014 basking champion you were. You decide to call upon the dark powers that this body came with. Those terrible magics that rend the will and tear at the hearts of your enemies. You channel forces malign to your eyes and look at Auntie with a pitiable chirp.

Auntie looks speculative but generally unimpressed. Then the world flashes dark as something passes over head, and the world returns to visibility. But only in chunks.

You move toward one of the chunks of light and find that they're a hole in the darkness enveloping you, just small enough that you don't know that you can squeeze through.

What is this, some kind of basket? Yep, that's a basket. She put a basket on top of you. As you peer out of the hole you see auntie lean over your new prison and you hear the sound of a heavy object settling on top of it.

Well this sharply limits your options. Your sibling look varying shades of amused from where they sit in the nestbox, you notice they're getting plenty of sun there. This basket is a terrible basking location, despite the name. Clearly it was inappropriately named.

You momentarily consider digging your way out, but you're pretty sure that tough as your claws are a couple of inches of wood is tougher. Instead you spend your time carefully exploring your prison. Warden Sarissa certainly knows how to pick them. All the holes around the edges are quite clearly too small to escape through. And with the heavy thing on top you definitely can't lift the edge. Just looking you can see the way the basket bends under the weight of the thing.

Wait... You climb up the side of the basket like a champ and start exploring the holes near the top. Sure enough the holes near the top are pressed nearly closed by the heavy thing, you think it's a pot of some kind, but the area in between it and the ground is actually WIDER. It's still a bit of a tight fit but you manage to squeeze your way through. carefully alternating arms and legs through to mimimize your profile. After a moment of squeezing you're free and with no witnesses since you snuck out the back!

In the middle of the nesting room Auntie has just gotten herself comfortable. Kuru is curled up close to the nestbox watching your siblings do their thing. Two of your brothers, the older two are wrestling. One of your sisters are sleeping. The youngest brother is apparently basking, he's got potential but his form is all wrong. As for the remaining sister it takes you a sec to figure out what she's doing but you realize she's propped up in one corner of the nest box, only her head peeking over the edge to watch your basket.

You can stand to spend more time with your siblings. As you clamber over to the nestbox aunt Sarissa immediately notices you and looks a mixture of confused and amused at your escape. She says nothing as you take your place next to your siblings. You push on your youngest brother to correct his basking posture, but down, chin up, and for the love of God Lizard don't face into the sun directly unless your basking space forces you to.

"You are going to pretend to behave now, little one?" Auntie asks, resting her head on one fist looking amused.

Your look of shock at the hideous accusation that you're anything but perfectly behaved, feigned or not, clearly comes across since your aunt and Kuru both start laughing at you. Your second sister comes and imitates your brother's basking posture and apparently finds it satisfactory. The sun is excellent right now and you can almost feel it gathering and boiling beneath your scales as you take on a more advance basking posture.

"Alright then," giggles reigned in, your aunt collects herself, "Kuru what was I tellings the little ones about?"

Random basking psychic powers activated!

"You were telling them things they need to know for tomorrow," Kuru reminds auntie.

"Oh yeah," Auntie scratches her chin, "Tomorrow you lizardlings will get your own food. That's the rule. A lizard has to be able to help themself before another lizard has to help them. So tomorrow you prove you cane help yourself. You'll be big enough that most of the birds won't be able to just pick you up and carry you away. Not without you getting them back anyway." She bares her teeth in a frightening way.

You immediately recall how dad kept you under his hat as he swam back and how Kuru swam with one claw holding you to her head on the way back. Maybe they weren't just making sure you ran off...

"The first trick to living surviving in the swamp, and really most places, is to be aware of how big you are. If something is many times bigger than you then you should not attack it, since it must be strong to get that big," Auntie continues. Her tone is practiced like she's imparted this information before, "In the swamp there are many big things, if you aren't stupid you will be able to tell when you see them if you're out of your depth. Though some things like moose and bears are deceptively strong for their size. If you're nearer the coast then you might see large crabs."

"Those are usually magic," Kuru says with distaste.
>>
>>38337598
>[2/3]

"Yes, a big crab is usually magic in some way. Magic things are easy to identify, if its colors are strange for it's kind or if it is always on fire or something then it is magic. And you should probably avoid it. Plants that smell very sweet can be dangerous, do not eat it unless you know what it is. This goes for most colorful things as well. If it is brightly colored, ask first. And don't bother asking if you happen to catch a mermaid sleeping on the beach. Just let it go. They're deadly poisonous. If you're being chased by mushrooms, please don't run towards someone's home. Chasing mushrooms get all over everything when they die," she stops to think for a moment, "you probably shouldn't hurt them either, they'll grow again wherever they die. If you can, just set them on fire."

"Generally magic things are bad," Kuru adds again.

Auntie sighs and nods as she says sardonic tone, "Yes magic is very bad. If it isn't the magic of the shaman-priests then it is very bad luck." She doesn't sound like she believes what she is preaching but she still sounds like she's said this before many times. "As for how to hunt, my favorite way, and the easiest, is to wait for something the right size for eating then jump out and grab it. You can wait in many places. Sometimes I go to the beach and I wait under the sand. Sometimes I wait in the swamp water or the swamp bottoms. If I'm feeling really lazy and have bait, I will wait in a tree. Some lizards, especially big ones, have an advantage to hiding. Our colors are like rocks or plants so if we are well hidden things can not see us. Or if you're like me and my size," Auntie pulls her tail out of the window where it's been sitting and soils it around where your siblings pile up to see it.

Her tail is clearly a lighter color than the rest of her, closer to the color of the wood of the hut outside than the shaded inside wood. She begins to talk about bait and the ways to prepare it but Kuru interrupts again.
>>
>>38337630
>[3/3]
"That's not a good thing to tell them," she complains, "I can not do that." She shows off her own limbs which have been sitting in the sunlight and are still nearly the same color

Auntie shrugs. "I know many big lizards who do it."

"But I am small, and they are too," Kuru insists.

"Fine, fine," Auntie waves her off. She launches into her discussion of how to make bait without having something big come and take it. "I'm not saying you can't eat a big thing. Every once in a while there is a group that will go out to hunt a big thing. There is strength in numbers and many lizards do what one never could."

She stops to think if there's anything she missed...

Kuru is about to speak again. Psychic powers resurge!

"The shamans," Kuru prompts.

"Ah, yes," Sarissa slaps the ground, "Never asks the shaman priests for anything. Theys are useless."

"Sarissa!" Kuru hisses. Sarissa hisses back louder, and Kuru stops.

"They are useless, no? Their magic is 'only for rituals' and they do nothing but expect others to give them food for 'communing with the gods.' These little ones, their father knows more magic then the top three combineds but he can do none of it since he is the priest of a small god."

"He does not complain."

"Because he is cowardly," Sarissa hisses again, she is clearly annoyed by this subject, "If it was not for my sister he would still be as small as you."

Kuru blinks at that and then stands up and leaves. Auntie looks pained but doesn't say anything as her friend leaves. After she is gone Auntie seems to remember that you and your siblings are there. She explains how lizards will sometimes get much bigger over night, and that when they do they sometimes get bigger. She doesn't explain the conditions for the growth except that for some lizards it takes a very long time, and for others it is fairly early. Some do it multiple times even. But the biggest thing she has noticed is that lizards who hunt only when hungry, or never leave their settlement and instead live off others stay small. Lizards that grow big too fast usually get eaten fighting something bigger than them.
>>
>>38338623
>[2/2]

She goes on to explain how the coast lizards in this area are scattered through a wide ranging swamp between two mountiains, abutting the sea on the south. They make many small settlements with two larger ones to gather at if they desire and this way they don't eat everything one place has to offer.

Since lizards can eat fairly little and survive as long as they're active it isn't uncommon for the lizards to make games to pass time. ANd many collect different oddments some of which they use to decorate their person when they are at home. Aunite shows off her own decorations at this. She points to one object or another and talks about how it is rare or uniquie or from very far away. Lizards sometimes trade war spoils from the fishfaces to a human place on the coast for things like these.

She remembers she hasn't mentioned the fishfaces before and tells you there are things like lizards but with fish that live in the ocean. The lizards have fought them over the sea in this area and in many others for a long time. If you run into one you should fight them on land, you are stronger there, but they are better in the water.

She continues telling you details about these things and random other topics until the sun begins to set. Jumping from topic to topic, carefully covering them in her practiced way but seemingly going through material just to focus on going through material. You're pretty sure you picked up a good deal of it.

The sun is setting the good basking is at an end. Auntie says food is coming.

Auntie's advice is still ringing in your ears as you climb down the outside of the house and hop to ground level. You are rather small, and quite edible. You figure a disguise is in order. Minutes are spent carefully gathering mud and leaves and a twig and applying them to yourself. Your outline thoroughly broken up, you carefully tiptoe in the swamps surrounding your home.

You are clambering up what you've decided is your rock when you notice a familiar sight come sweeping up out of the bush. It's that heavily dressed lizard from earlier today. He makes his way over to the same place he stopped at this morning and pulls a red paper thing out of his pouch and unfolds it. It makes a weird boxy thing when unfolded and he pulls a little metal dish out of blackish stuff and sets it into a nest of strings you see dangling from the box.

Creeping closer you catch sight of a shiny red rock the size of a grape in the lizard's hands. He strikes it with his claw and the metal dish catches fire. You can only approve the bringing of more fire into the world so you release a pleased trill at this. Your vocal range has just been getting better all day and you grace this crazy lizard with your greatest expression to date.

It's hilarious when he flinches and falls over trying to get away from you. Apparently your disguise is foolproof. You're pretty sure this guy is a fool.

He recovers quickly and takes a close look at you. Rolling his eyes he turns back to his fire thing and carefully maneuvers his box over the fire. You think he's trying to burn it but he's doing it wrong. Then the strings on the box go taut and the box starts to float away, the strings attached to it pulling up the metal dish and taking it with it. The lizard seems not to mind as his contraption escapes and sets to tying a longer string trailing from it to a root and keeping it from floating too far away.
>>

You look back in the direction he came form and notice a couple other huts illuminated by the red lights of the lanterns. Oh they're lanterns, thanks brain.

You're surprised when scaly fingers close around you and begin brushing away your disguise.

"Now where do you belong?" a rumbly voice asks. The lizard lifts you to his face.

You shrug at him and point a claw at your house. The older lizard looks at your house and his eyes widen. He then looks around as if confirming where he is before returning to you.

"You are one of Kasha's?"

You give him an affirmative headbob

"I thought she was away."

You bob affirmatively again, you really should have resorted to lizard speak sooner, developed vocal chords are much less frequently necessary.

"Oh, she missed you hatching? She will be disappointed," the lantern lizard says carrying you back toward your home.

You look back and see you dad is approaching the house holding his stick and furry bundle in his other claw. Not wanting to be basketed again you raise a minor ruckus in the lantern lizard's claw. He sees what sets you off and you see a mischevious twinkle of understanding in his eye.

"Ah, I see. Where to then?"

You point at the windows and he steps over, brushing the rest of the mud off you before placing you on the sill. He places a finger to his lips and sneaks off. You turn and hop back into the room hoping no one saw your reentry as you toddle back into the nest box. Outside you hear the lantern lizard exchange a greeting with your dad before carrying on his way.

Then your dad steps into the room a pair of bloody rabbits in one hand, followed by auntie who puts out a bowl of water for you and your siblings a moment before your dad drops a half a rabbit in the box as well. Auntie closes the windows and shoots you a look before pulling your dad back into the main room.

Son of a bitch! They gypped us by one and a half rabbits! Not just half a rabbit! OP is trying to trick us out of our sweet rabbit gains.

I can't tell if this is a vote for something so I'm not counting it

It was an observation in an attempt to manipulate the vote, not a vote on its own.

You're fairly sure half a rabbit is enough for a bunch of lizards your size. Your siblings immediately leap into the fray and together as a family you come to the conclusion that your mouths are not sufficiently strong to rip off mouth size pieces of rabbit yet.

Your brothers gives up almost immediately and starts pawing at the rabbit confusion, except the middle brother who just keeps yanking and tugging at it with all his might ignoring the fact it isn't working. Your middle sister has taken to nipping off tiny pieces of the flesh along the line where dad tore it. The younger sister is similarly pawing at the rabbit but she's doing so in a more deliberate way, like she has an idea.

You pick up on what she's doing and step over to help her and soon the pair of your claws are biting into the meat and cutting away at its anchors to the bone. Your two less ferocious brothers catch on soon after and start working one the rabbit from the other side. Eventually through careful application of claw and brain, and slapping middle brother out of the way you manage to tear away good sized sections of flesh.

Then the truce is off and it's every lizard for himself, except for your older brother who makes a point to slide some meat out of the pile to where the middle bro is sulking.

In short order dinner is done, and your dad and aunt return to find a bunch of lazy lizards half passed out in food comas. You catch the faint odor rabbit flesh, burning, and something spicy. As they pass the bead door

"Ah, they're already out," Auntie observes, "Put out the light, we can talk in the other room."

Dad nods and pinches out the candle in the room. You settle down to sleep properly then notice you didn't hear them leave, cracking your eyes you see them standing in the dim light staring at you. You aren't concerned for long though as you finish passing out from rabbit overdose.

Weird you could see them so well though, you thought they put out the candle.

Would you rather fight a lizard sized duck or a duck sized lizard?
>>
>>38341482
What kind of lizard we talking here? If it's a full grown monster lizard person then I'd rather fight that at duck size. Unless it's already evolved a couple times, then I'd rather fight the duck.

Also what did you think of my linked basking championship photo?
>>

A handsome specimen to be sure but their basking form is all over the place. I'm afraid I'll have to deduct points.
