Your mind scrambles, but only finds the blind instinct to fly as far away as you can.

How does he know that you don’t belong here? Does he know that you’re human? How would he know that in the first place?

All the eyes of the procession are on you, completely silent besides the heavy breathing of the lumbering walking heads. Their hot and acrid breath reach your tense body with each time they exhale. The many onlookers flanking the strange parade all crane their necks to find out who is the one bold enough to stop such an important event.

“I..” You push your back against a wall, frantically searching for an excuse.

The red robed figure points his long arm to one the hulking head-carriages behind him. “If you’re the representative from Kyraen’Asils, you must enter with the local diplomats.” His voice direct, but not without a notable amount of respect.

Where? Is that another city? A province perhaps? He can tell that you’re from there with just a look. Why exactly is he making that assumption?

Too many questions, and too little time to try to reason them out. The longer that you delay, the more suspicious you may seem.

This procession is part of what’s eventually going to be the trail for this Grivermillion, who ever that is. If you’re part of the officials presiding over this whole thing, you’re bound to gather an immense amount of knowledge about the inner realms.

But the whole venture would be incredibly risky, considering you don’t know the slightest thing about the place you’re pretending to be from.
The muscles in your legs tighten instinctually in preparation for flight.

I gotta go, so I suggest that we're, well, a stand-in. Some unfortunate.....complications....happened, and thus a different representative had to be sent. New. Inexperienced.

It's good to have a blend and truth and fiction, but I don't know if this would go over well in another realm with different norms.
>>
>>39388652
I just got here, missed the first vote, and I suggest we drop the lie as soon as we're out of eyesight.

How can you say no to being on the inside of this realm’s trial of the century?

You sigh in relief. “I’m not quite used to this city yet…” You walk to the robed figure. “I thought I’d never find the right place in time. Thank you.”

He seems slightly taken aback by your demeanor, but you promptly walk past him and toward the looming head that’s to be your transport.

A figure atop the creature begins to lower a small rope ladder for you to ascend.

You wave your hand dismissively. “No need.” You swiftly fly yourself to the top, and elegantly land into a padded seat next to the person who was fiddling with the ladder, and across two other diplomats.

Although the shapes and sizes of their bodies vary to some degree, they all are dressed in the same flowing black robes, leaving your unclothed self, sticking out immensely. You tighten your wings close to your body and hold your dagger in your lap.

They all nod and greet you, which you only return with a polite smile. No need to get into any unneeded conversation just yet.

After confirming that you’re well-secured, the red officiator at the front begins the procession once again.

The ride is a bumpy one, with pounding music to mimic the excited beating occurring in your chest. Your palms tingle as you peer out to the sides of the march, even taking time to wave back to animated pedestrians.

You may have put yourself into something quite large here.

[1/2]
>>
>>39389428

After a few short minutes of listening to idle gossip about absent diplomats, you stop in front of a great stone building with many dauntingly large statues of various creatures all holding unique weapons.

Even with all the people who were part of the strange parade, very few actually move to enter the building. The four diplomats, including yourself, and about a dozen guards all escorting a tall figure covered by a very large inscribed sheet, and bound with heavy shackles.

That must be this Grievermillion you've been hearing about.

Upon entering, you’re given a black leather sheathe for your dagger, and are then escorted to a strangely decorated waiting room with the other diplomats.

The trial will begin promptly.

You keep to yourself as the others discuss various politics of this city, the conversation gets quite heated.

“We can’t stop dumping our waste into their plane! Will be knee deep in shit in a few short weeks.” The smallest of the three argues.

“The war won’t take that long to end if we do so.” The owner of the voice takes a sip of a drink. “Starve the grubs out.”

“They lived for eons perfectly fine before we started the dumping there. Stopping won’t work, and this city is too big now to do anything else!” The third diplomat chimes in.

The three voices are all quiet to ponder the matter hand.

“You’re awfully quiet. What would you suggest, madam?” One of the voices calls over to you as you had begun to inspect what you had hoped is a fruit of some sort.

Heavy sewage disposal is not a field you’re well versed in, nor are you entirely sure if you should be as the diplomat you are.

>Tell them they should keep dumping it into their enemy’s plane.

>Tell them they should find a new place to dump it.

>Say you want to hear nothing more on the disposal of fecal matter.

Hello there!

>>39389663

You’ve come this far, why not start meddling with high level politics?

You take only a brief moment to collect yourself from the surprise. “Keep dumping it. Having to wade through waste back home will ruin the morale of the war effort.” You answer confidently. “That will certainly end your war in a way you wouldn’t prefer.”

One of them chuckles in delight. “Well said! I know how I’ll vote next meeting.”

“What does a Caelumnite know about this anyway…” The one who proposed to stop the whole thing grumbles under his breath.

“Now, now. Though their reign over this plane is long over, Kyraen’Asils is likely governed just the same.” The third interjects to diffuse the any potential conflict.

Your hands shake with how much you just want to throttle them for answers. Caelumnite? Is that the species of creatures that your form looks like?

“Representatives?” An old clerk pokes his head into the room before you can think on the matter any further. “It’s time.” He leaves without another word.

“Let’s get this started shall we?” The three of them head out with you in tow, tightly clutching your dagger for a sense of security.

The four of you sit flanking a large throne made entirely out of the bones of many different creatures, flesh still hanging from a few of them.

You’re actually close enough to touch it, but you’d rather not.

The courtroom is massive, with many violent works of art painted on the walls. A large pond of blood separates where you sit from the rest of the room.

You watch as dozen of wealthy civilians, all dressed in fine clothing, file in to be part of the audience. When the guards holding the particularly large weapons walk in with the still shrouded prisoner, you know the trial is about to begin.

“RISE!” A voice shouts demandingly, causing you to jump to your feet.

A towering figure marches into the completely silent room, his body is like that of an extremely muscular man only several times larger. His head is skull of dancing shadows, with two beady white dots for eyes.

He sits in the throne next to you, the steady rise and fall of his chest visible from where you sit.

You and everyone else in the room sit down immediately after, leaving only the guards and Grivermillion standing.

Then he is revealed.

A massive red demon is shocked by the sudden light. Several rune circles surround him, perhaps to bind his movement. A fascinating ability, which you must look into.

When his eyes finally do focus, he stops them on you.

The look on his face tells you that he somehow instantly recognizes some aspect of you. “Impossible…” His voice, while hoarse, still manages to fill the room.

Looking into his eyes instantly stirs up an unexplained feeling of familiarity. Why do you feel like you’ve met him before?

This could be bad, already several people are looking between you and him. Trying to reason out his utterance.

If he’s somehow able to divine who you really are, then getting out of here should be your first priority. But how can you get leave without looking suspicious?

You clutch your stomach and wince in pain. “I can’t look at him without feeling sick. Please, excuse me.” You shakily rise to your feet.

Now to sell it.

You begin to collapse to the side, firmly holding onto the dagger to reel in your natural instinct to break your fall.

You shut your eyes tightly, but unexpectedly you don’t actually reach the ground.

Many gasps sound out from the crowd as you are caught by the large being that was sitting in the throne.

His small and intense eyes stare directly into your own panicked pair. “Come get her.” He barks his order to the nearest guard and then pulls you to your feet.

The guard carefully secures your arm in his own, and helps you out of the courtroom.

The judge’s booming voice fades as you walk further and further away. “Grivermillion, you are accused of the traitorous acts of…”

[1/2]
>>
>>39391639

You are slowly walked to the entrance of the building. “Are you alright, miss?”

You take a deep breath as if slowly recovering from some trauma. “I’ll be fine…just need some fresh air.”

He nods and anxiously looks behind himself to the courtroom. His long hair pokes out of his helmet in someplace.

“Go on. You don’t want to miss anything.” You nod back to the room. “If they ask, tell them I forced you to leave me alone.”

He quickly straightens out and then bows to you. “Thank you, miss.” And then begins to march back to the courtroom.

“Be sure to pay close attention…” You call out after him. “I might want to learn more about what happened, and maybe more about you…”

He trips over his own feet, but quickly recovers and scrambles back into the room, exactly the reaction you expected him to have.

You step out of the building and look up to the sky. Even though that whole thing didn’t go as planned, it doesn’t mean your investigation into this realm ends here.

Far from it.

You take off with your magnificent wings, headed toward the portal, headed toward home.

~

Once you finish washing the dried blood off your pale skin, the sun has already begun to turn the horizon a dark shade of blue.

Amazingly, you’re not tired in the slightest, but you still head to bed anyway in preparation for the long day you have planned.

Although, there is something you need to take care of first…

The familiar feeling of your cloak on your bare skin gets your mind racing with possibilities.

Several voices whisper to you this time. “You’ve learned much…Control what you gained…”

The voices only confirm what you already know. The first time delving into the inner realm is likely to be one of the largest gains of knowledge, you’ll ever have. Now the question is, where to apply all of it?

Immediately your mind recalls the feeling of sheer power you had while transformed in the inner realm.

If you could invoke the power of that form in this realm then the possibi-

The voices in your head turn to frantic screaming as you collapse to the ground in an intense fit of coughing.

There’s no fantastic swarm of visions to point you to the truth, only the sight of your body breaking fills your mind, and you most certainly feel what you’re seeing as well.

In between wincing wretches of pain, you see blood shooting out of your mouth repeatedly.

The sight fades, you can’t keep your eyes open, your torso feels like it’s bursting, and you’re drowning. Literally drowning on your own blood, but only then, when the form you see in your mind begins to crack, does the pain stop....

After a long time you finally stand, and rise beyond the pool of blood you lie in.

Something presses against your back, you feel its urge to drink the air held completely back by the cloak around you.

You throw the dark shroud aside, and peer at your nude self in the mirror for what feels like the first time.

Silver hair hangs around your head messily as you stare at the unfamiliar pair of vivid red eyes. Two precious rubies reflected for all their brilliance even in this dingy mirror.

Not to be shown up, your two crimson wings shoot out and fill up your room, like an exotic bird stuck in a cage. They surround your delicately pale skin, contrasting and exemplifying the beauty in both of them.

You astutely note that you’re not any taller, nor do you feel any energy coursing through your limbs, so you’re currently on par with your outer realm form.

Now for main event. You invoke your flame.

The vicious flame washes your whole room in its brilliant blue light. It hungrily consumes the air around, burning hotter than any flame you’ve ever conjured before in this realm.
You quickly snuff it, realizing that such an intense creation should not be called upon in such a vulnerable place.

All the same, you grin madly, fixing your hair so that it clear from your face. Fondly looking over the entirety of your new form, you begin to sympathize a bit more with Marissa.

Although, you are a bit more practical than her, so perhaps some restraint should be employed. A strange type of sadness comes over you as you think about altering this form.

After much deliberation, you decide that you make everything work other than the wings. The other features can be achieved by some people through use of makeup and dyes, but the wings are just that, no hiding it. Not to mention that you don’t feel like sleeping like a bird.

With that thought, and a few painful minutes later, your wings are completely gone from your current form.

Your journal entry on this takes you some time to complete, and by the time you shut the tome, you’re yawning sleepily.

You gather and wear the cloak you tossed off earlier with reckless abandon, and drift off to sleep.

~

>”Who are you two?” You hear your grandfather’s voice ask well above where you stand.

The individual voice responding is an unintelligible murmur, lost from memory.

>”What?! Then why did you come here?” You sleepily stare at your grandfather’s legs standing across from you, not hearing the response to his question again.

>”Hurry up and come in then…”

You snap awake from the dream, the sun already high in the sky. Well, at least it wasn’t one of the bad dreams. Taking some time to style your new colored hair, you get dressed, and then head downstairs.

Walking into the parlor room was as much of an event as you expected it to be.

Immediately Laurent jumps from his seat, ready to fight, but a single disapproving stare is all it takes to let him know it’s you.

His face is a mixture of horror and confusion. He steady himself on the couch. “W-why-“

“WOW!” Ellie shoots toward and grabs a hold of your arm. “Is this the form you take on while delving?! How did you manage to do it?! Your hair is SO pretty, and your skin is so soft!” She hardly takes a breath, all the while poking and prodding at various parts of you.

Marissa walks in from the kitchen and gives a quiet smile, not at all surprised at what she sees before her.

“What’s done is done.” You address to both Ellie and Laurent. “I’m still me, of course. I just look different.” You pull your arm away from Ellie who’s rubbing her face on it. “Anyway, we have work that needs to be done immediately.” You address your apprentices.

Ellie’s gleeful expression instantly turns distraught, much to your amusement. “Oh, no.”

“Oh, yes.” You reply and begin walking to the backyard. “I hope you two didn’t have too big of a breakfast..."

~

With your hair tied up, the three of you stare at the bloated, and frankly, aggressively pungent corpse in front of you.

You begin to explain your plan. “Two of us will be dissecting, while one of us records. As for-“

Ellie instantly raises her hand eagerly. “Oh, OH OH! Can I be the person who records?”

“I’d actually like to be the record taker.” Marissa steps in front of her, tail swaying mockingly in Ellie’s face. “I just finished doing my nails earlier today.” She stares at her hand approvingly.

Tough, because you want to be the record keeper as well. But then again, something important might be overlooked if you’re not doing the cutting.

You sigh and roll up your sleeves. “Ellie go get your notebook…”

“Yes!” She runs off after only a short celebration of her victory.

You turn to your other apprentice. “Marissa, well done nails are nice. But you’ll soon see that being an Occultist is not at all conducive to maintaining them.”

She shrugs and smiles coyly. “Hmm, not the worse place they’ve been.”

With that pleasant fact, you two go get the tools you need, and wait for Ellie to return before beginning.

FWOooshhhhhh~

You and Marissa begin to wretch as the fetid gas trapped inside the creature escapes from the first deep cut.

“Should I be recording this?” Ellie asks from quite a distance away.

You impatiently motion for her to get closer, which she hesitantly does.

“We have to cut into its digestive tract.” You instruct, turning your head to the side for fresh air. “See what it ate in the other realm and possibly over here.”

Marissa looks at you in disbelief at what you said.

“By we, I mean you have to cut into its digestive tract.” You clarify firmly.

Marissa groans and begins to work, stirring up unknown fluids on her arms and face.

“That’s good, Marissa.” Ellie comments over her shoulder. “Get deep in there so I can take good notes.” Ellie teases.

But not for long, as Marissa splashes the brownish fluid on Ellie, causing her to shriek in disgust.

“I have to clean it out first~” Marissa sticks her tongue out at Ellie, who’s still fuming in anger.

You can’t help but crack a smile as you move on to its upper torso. You carefully cut, and prod through the connective tissue on the muscles.

You stop, when you feel something unusual in the area around its sternum, maybe even something foreign. You hastily separate the muscles covering it, and marvel at the object you see before you.
