You depart Velyas Heaven some time later, after making sure Vivi, Fulima, Salicia and Neyma are settled and happy.

The national god of Orlath, Delax, seems to have a grudge against you, or perhaps he is unaware of what his priests do with their power. His priests have been making weapons that are enchanted to kill your family and followers. Used against you such weapons simply aren’t powerful enough to be much of a threat, but their creation on a large scale (if the information Jal has bought back is correct), is a declaration of war.

A war between gods would be disastrous, especially if (as you fear) the Lord of Life is helping Delax and/or his priests. Right now you simply don’t have enough information to make the right call, so taking the direct approach, it seems that talking to Delax personally is the right plan.

You ponder your options: you need to strike a balance between putting yourself at risk, and pushing hard enough to get Delax to talk to you.

Velya has told you how to reach Delax’s Heaven using your Plane Shift spell, but going into his seat of power might be dangerous.

You could try going to one of his churches in Orlath and tell his priests that you want to talk to him. The larger the church, the more priests and guards they will have of course.
>>
Or you could use magic to try to contact Delax at a distance somehow.

How will you try to talk to Delax?

>Go to his Heaven
>Go to his main church in the capital
>Go to a small church
>Use spell (which?)
>Other method (what?)

Going to a small church is the safer option, especially if it comes to a fight. Donning a magical disguise you teleport to a location outside of a small town in Orlath and then simply walk in through the gates, its mid-afternoon.

The Church of Delax is easy to find, located in the centre of the town and having a looming structure more reminiscent of a castle than a place of worship.

You head inside to the visitors hall and see a number of people praying before statues of Delax: in his aspect of Warrior, Ruler and Guide. A young acolyte approaches you, and takes in your false appearance of an ordinary traveller. You spot perhaps three priests of Delax in the hall, you doubt if this entire church has more than a half-dozen priests.

“Welcome milady” he says with a smile, he looks young, perhaps younger than you were when you went on your first quest “How may I be of assistance?”

If you want to speak to Delax directly, you’ll need to force him to pay attention to you somehow, but perhaps talking to his priests might reveal useful information.

What do you do?

>Talk to the young acolyte (topic?)
>Ask to speak to the head priest

“I was hoping to speak to the head priest” you say “I have matters of importance to discuss with him.” You give the young acolyte a charming smile, he blushes and mumbles out something about going to get the high priest, turning and hurrying away he stumbles over his own feet but catches himself on the wall, and then heads off at a rapid pace.

Either he’s easily flustered or....Velyas warning comes back to you: about how easy it can be to manipulate mortals.

You contemplate that as you look around the visitors hall in the church. Like many gods, Delax embodies several aspects, his domains, and they are evident in this place. Delax is a warrior and a kind but stern ruler, or so he would have his followers believe. But places of prominence are given to Delax the guide, Delax the *light of morality* according to his own writings. Well, you suppose with an internal shrug, all gods see themselves as guides to their followers. Something about this church makes you feel uncomfortable, the design maybe, or the expression on the statues perhaps. They don’t appear benevolent as they gaze down upon the worshippers, they seem to look down upon the Orlath with contempt.

A few minutes later an older priest with more ornate robes arrives, led by the young acolyte, who indicates you and then withdraws.

“Yes my child?” asks the priest, his long eyebrows moving as he talks, his eyes looking at you with vague suspicion “You said you had something important to discuss with me?”

“I do” you admit “I have heard troubling rumours: that Orlath might go to war with the new nation in the Tribal Lands, Oreia.”

The priest gives a wide smile, seemingly put at ease by a familiar worry “Worry not” he says “The Theram are seeking many solutions to the problem of the false goddesses, I believe diplomacy and negotiation will prevail and the pretenders will realise they must step down.”
>>
“But what if they don’t?” you ask, still in your guise of a tired and worried traveller “What if-”

“Then with heavy hearts” says the priest, as if reciting “The Theram will have no choice but to order the army to remove the pretenders, for is it not written that we should not abide false gods?”

Possibly, you never read the holy texts of Delax.

Your response?

>>
“Why do you think the Dual Goddesses aren’t real?” You ask, trying to sound curious rather than accusing.

The priest pauses and gives you a searching look, before answering. You think your questions might be arousing his suspicions a little.

“The Theram and the Voice of Delax have said that this is so” he says with finality. You recall that the Voice of Delax is the title of the highest priest of Delax.

“But why would the other gods lie” you say “the other major gods including Konig have said that the Dual Goddesses are real.”

“I cannot speculate as to why gods would wish to deceive their followers” says the high priest, a swift, almost reflexive response “but our light Delax has said they are false. Was there anything else you wish to ask?” He puts a slight stress upon the last word. You notice magical energies begin to gather around him, he is preparing some sort of spell and partially hidden by his long sleeves, his fingers are twitching – probably running through the gestures required for whatever he intends to cast.

The mystical energies that are plain to your sight have not yet coalesced into anything coherent, he could be preparing to attack you, or read your mind, or even be preparing to bless you. Due to the slow speed of his casting it seems that he wants to avoid you noticing what he’s doing, but since you can see magic, that is a futile endeavour.

What do you do?

The priest casts a mind-reading spell at you, you disrupt it with a wave of your hand. Seems he thought you were a spy. As he stands there momentarily shocked by how easily you countered his spell you yell out “Delax, show yourself! We have business you and I!”

Your voice echoes around the visitors hall and the priest backs up, yelling for guards. The ordinary visitors to the temple wisely take the time to leave. Soon you are surrounded by a dozen church guards and behind them are four priests, including the one whose spell you so easily countered.

“Who are you sorcerer?” demands the priest you were speaking to before “and what business do you have in the House of Delax?”

You can see the light of magic surrounding the priests, all of them have protective spells cast upon them. You are still in your humble traveller disguise.

“I want to speak to Delax” you say “directly, this seems like the best way to do it.”

“Together” the priest says to his fellows “we subdue the witch and them hold her until an inquisitor can be called.” Ah, seems they still think you’re a spy, albeit a mage too.

To the church guards the priest says “prevent her from escaping.”

The guards are armed, and armoured in well-maintained gear but they do not appear to be elite troops: some are too young, others too old, one is badly overweight and the trembling of weapons held in hands betray the nerves of some of the guards.

With your powers you could easily defeat these poor fools, but the priests are about to attack you with their magic, so you need to decide how you’ll handle this.

Divine power alters reality itself, so it kinda always "interferes" with magic.
Its really more of a question if it would be better or worse not to.
Like when we did it with our Twin, clearly it was better to alter reality to make her see our point, rather than risking having to fight her.
Its a very slippery slope.

The guards close in around you, but your spinning halberd keeps them back as the illusionary disguise dissolves to reveal the young angelic woman you are.

“It’s her!” gasps one of the priests “The demon!”

No, you’re pretty sure the demon is your sister, you’re the angelic one...still time enough to educate the priests in theology later. Out loud you yell “I have come to have Delax answer to me for his accusations! If he wants to deny my godhood, then he should do it to my face instead of preparing assassins for my children and follower!”

Around you the guards fall back, giving you plenty of space and even the priests are stunned into silence as your angelically-amplified voice booms around the room.

Then you feel it, a divine presence, the unmistakeable aura of another god – one you have never encountered before, utterly unlike Velya, or even Konig, harsh and domaneering. You turn around to look at where it’s coming from.

Delax looks like a mature athletic human, perhaps in his early 40’s if he were mortal. His hair is grey and trimmed short and his face lined, he carries himself with the confidence of a warrior though and is dressed in polished scale and plate armour. From his belt hang two sheaths holding short swords and a long white cloak trails after him.

“What do you want?” asks Delax, giving you a surly look.

“To talk” you say calmly, there’s no point in antagonising him after all “I have seen a weapon made by your priests, one of many I’m told, that are enchanted to kill my kin, and my followers.”

“So” says Delax, his expression one of bored contempt.

“So” you say “wars between gods are forbidden.” Around you the priests and guards are kneeling – those that haven’t collapsed or fainted anyway.

“You’re not a god” says Delax, looking at you in disgust “you don’t deserve to be one, you’re just a jumped-up follower of Velya. I don’t know or care how she convinced Konig and the others to back you, but you are not a god.”
>>
[-1 Deific Power]

Its hard to discern the motives of another god, but Delax seems...slighted somehow that you became a god, as though you becoming one took something from him somehow. You think that it’s not that he doesn’t believe you’re a god, but that he doesn’t believe you should be one.

How do you respond?

>Make no more of these weapons, or else
>Point out that as a god, he should recognise you as one
>Velya, Konig and the others say I am a god, no matter what you think

There were two gods fighting and one of them died and then our mom took his divinity IIRC. This Delax is probably the other god, the one who survived. I think he hates us cause he thinks our powers should belong to him.
>>
>>39425548
>"Whatever your perceived slights, you KNOW the Divine Coven. A war between us could lay waste to the whole plane! Is your vanity such that you will refuse an obvious truth and put all at risk when a Lord of Life crawls across the land?"
>>
>>39425703
It doesn't mean she "stole" it, and at worst that just means he didnt get the spoils of his own deicide.
More likely he liked the god that got killed or something like that.
>>
“Why don’t you believe I am a goddess?” you ask Delax.

“Your divinity was stolen” he says harshly “stolen and then bestowed upon you before birth. It’s bad enough that Velyas lackey stole what she had no right to, but to then selfishly bestow that gift upon her own child rather than allowing all the gods to decide who should be raised to our ranks was arrogance beyond anything I have ever known!”

Delax seems to have a rather twisted idea of what happened: Your mother told you that you taking on the divine spark was not intentional on her part. You’re not sure what the divine etiquette is around creating new gods though.

Still, could Delax have intended to take the nascent spark himself to boost his own power, or raise a servant of his to god-hood? Was Delax perhaps the victor in a divine battle? You’ve no idea.

Whatever the reason, Delax seems to be taking it personally, which could account for his hatred of you.

How do you respond?

>My divinity was accident, not design – my mother did nothing wrong

“My mother did not intend for this to happen” you say “my gaining a divine spark was not planned, so blaming her accomplishes nothing.”

“So she has told you” Delax dismisses your statement. You ignore the implication that your mother would lie to you about this, and push on “I cannot say what she or Velya would have done with the divine spark, had I not ended up with it, but neither of us can change the past, should we not move on and concentrate on more current matters – such as the Lord of Life and the Killing Frost rather than re-fighting battles from years ago?”

Delax gives you a tight-eyed look of contempt “I’d rather face those threats alone than ally myself with a thief” he says.

You bite back a retort as you consider what he just said, thief huh?

“If you had found the divine spark and not my mother” you ask curiously “what would you have done with it?”

Delax pauses and then says in a calmer voice “Taken it before a full gathering of the gods” he says “for all to decide.”

[-1 Deific Power]

Delax is a poor liar. You can tell that he would never have done that, but you have a feeling, intuition perhaps, that he wouldn’t have simply used it to bolster his own power, that he had someone in mind for it, someone he wanted to raise to godhood. Perhaps a lover? Or one of his most loyal priests? You’re not sure.

“If you wish to face such potent foes alone” you say pleasantly “then I will not stop you, in truth I’d want all the allies I could against such a threat, but I won’t choose for you. I *do* insist that you leave my followers and family out of it – it’s clear that your quarrel is not with them, it is with Velya, and perhaps my mother and me, at best” you don’t really think he has a genuine reason to bear a grudge, but you might as well avoid rehashing the same argument again.

“You don’t get to tell me what to do” says Delax in a threatening tone.
>>
You continue “As I have said, a god war would not have any sort of positive outcome, and Velya, Konig, Mazon and Yerra accept my divinity even if you do not. I’m asking you one last time to stop trying to hurt my family and followers.”

Delax just shakes his head at you, a grim look on his face. You feel there’s something you’re not getting here. You wonder if an idle suspicion you had earlier about him being in league with the Lord of Life could be correct.

What do you do?

“You really think you can stand against the four major gods on your own?” You ask Delax in disbelief “What makes you think you can win?”

“I am doing what is right” says Delax stiffly “Let others talk of politics, what Velya and her servant did was wrong.”

“Then let’s take it before a full gathering of the gods” you say “Since you deem it so very worthy of threatening the peace of the plane while that thing tromps around at its own leisurely pace, why don't we turn our attention to the matter, have the circumstances by which I acquired the spark come under review, and if found wanting by a jury of our peers we can find a peaceful, respectable solution."

Delax snorts “pointless” he says “since the only method of extracting it would be to kill you, even those that Velya has not already bought off will vote against killing you. A vote to take the spark from you is very different to a vote about who benefits from an unclaimed spark.”

Well that wasn’t exactly what you were suggesting. Is Delax deliberately being dense, or is he so blinded by his own grudge?

Or does he believe he can win, because he has a powerful ally?

You draw in a deep breath and ask “Did the Lord of Life promise to give you my divine spark after the two of you kill me then?”

Delaxs eyes widen and then he moves, so fast you don’t even see it. Both of his swords are in his hands and the tip of one is inches from your throat, the other held in front of Delaxs body in a guarding position.

“How dare you accuse me of allying with that...thing!” says Delax in a whisper, his eyes burning with anger.

You don’t think its an act; Delax seems genuinely angry that you’d accuse him of such a thing.

“Then who?” you ask calmly, a sword at your throat is nothing new, and you can teleport away if you need to.

Delaxs eyes glitter dangerously, but for a split second he looks away as he says “I don’t need allies.”
>>
You think he has an ally, or allies, powerful ones. But if not the Lord of Life, who? or what?

“Now go” he says “or the war starts right here, right now.”

Around you the priests and worshippers moan in fright. If the two of you fight around mortals...it won’t be pretty.

We might know who one of his allies is. It's possible he has more than one. I wouldn't be surprised if more than one god took offense to Sireyi's divinity. It might also be possible to undermine one or more of these hypothetical alliances in that completely-direct-and-honest way that Sireyi undermines things.

Even if he does only have the one ally, confirmation would be nice. Even if we can't undermine the alliances, at least we know the enemy lineup. I just don't see much advantage to kickstarting the war with a bunch of dead mortals, and I really don't think we'll be able to beat Delax.

>>39427448
Well, a bunch of people did just hear him acknowledge us as divine and admit that the real reason he refused to do so publicly was that he thought we didn't deserve it and proceed to threaten us, fully aware he would be starting a god war, with his citizens as the first likely casualties. Maybe one of them will have enough of a spine and shaken faith to wind up as a martyr.

>>39427588
We don't know how many priests are involved in that, and this church in particular is relatively small. I doubt they knew about the bane weapons before their god's admission of creating weapons to kill our family. Maybe the head priest, but the lower ranking ones? The guards? The acolytes?
>>
For several long seconds you lock gazes with Delax, in two minds about whether you should stay and fight. You and Delax would likely both walk away from such a conflict alive, but if you provoke him he could reveal who his secret allies are.

Or you could be handing him a propaganda victory, a tale he can spin into defending his followers from an aggressor.

You still see out of the corner of your eyes the cowering followers of Delax. You and He might walk away alive, but they wouldn’t.

Killing people for no other reason than to gain information doesn’t really sit well with your own code of morality. You take a deep breath and a small step backwards, without taking your eyes from Delax you teleport away.

You wonder if some parting words would have gained you any satisfaction then you shake your head ruefully, not worth it. You appear atop a mountain in the Tribal Lands. When teleporting away from hostile situations you’ve gotten in the habit of heading for remote locations before going home, just in case you are followed.

After waiting several minutes you then teleport back home to Oreia. You had best tell your followers to prepare for war.

Junior Paladin Mini-Quest

You are Milerna Jalweyen, angel-blooded and born paladin of Konig. You are 8 years old, and are attending paladin training at a church of Konig school.

http://pastebin.com/RE8br4uf

“First position!” bellows out the instructor “Third position, Fifth position, no not Ninth you klutz!” singling out a student who moved their wooden sword into the wrong position.

You’re in weapons class and you’ve been doing drills with blunt wooden swords for over an hour now, and your arms are getting tired. At your side you can see Chesi’s sword trembling a little too.

You’re still doing a lot better than the other cadets: most move their swords into the correct position slowly, some barely approximate the right movement, and others are so tired they get the wrong one – like the poor boy now in tears after the instructor finishes insulting him.

The instructor glares at you all as you hold your weapons in the indicated position for a few more moments and then he shakes his head “pitiful” he says. You’re outside in the cold air, and even with all the exercise some of your fellow cadets are still blue and shivering.

“I don’t think you really deserve this” he says “weapons down” you all gratefully relax as he continues “But at the end of every weaponry lesson you will be allowed some time to spar with your fellow cadets, no matter how poor your skills are.”

He indicates long racks filled with wooden replicas of real weapons, you suspect that like the wooden swords you’ve been using they will have metal rods inside the wood to give the weapon real weight.
>>
“Grab some pads” says your instructor, a really old man with grey hair, indicating a pile of padded clothing in different sizes “and a partner and pick a weapon of choice, then” he points to some older cadets coming over from another class “the older cadets will watch your fights, if they tell you to stop, then stop, if they declare a winner, then you can find a new partner and the loser stops fighting for today, now, get to it.”

Along with the other cadets you and Chesi get wrapped up in warm padding and then head to the weapons racks. You spot Thomas and Michael also picking out weapons, as well as members of the various groups you saw earlier: the Swordies, Nobles, Talented, Girls and Bullies.

Chesi picks out a spear, but what do you pick?

You grab a sword and under the watchful gaze of an older cadet you and Chesi start trading blows.

After a minute the cadet watching your match rolls his eyes and says “try hitting each other, not just each other’s weapons, otherwise you won’t learn anything”.

“We really should fight seriously” you say to Chesi. Chesi pulls a face and then takes up a more serious stance, and the two of you clash.

You know that you’re not the best fighter without using your powers, but still, a little of that skill is seeping through, you hope. And Chesi is strong enough and fast enough to keep up with you.

The two of you clash, your sword darting everywhere at once, even as Chesi dances around you, her spear blocking your every strike.

You barely hear the older cadet saying something as you spot an opening in Chesis guard, you thrust your sword forward towards her padded stomach even as Chesi brings her spear haft around to knock your strike away. The tip of your sword just brushes her stomach before Chesi deflects it, was that a point? You both freeze for a moment and glance at your referee.

“Uh winner” says the older cadet pointing to you and adding in shocked tones “how did you move so fast?”

Wanna go again?” asks Chesi, spinning her spear around in circles. Well, the instructor said you should seek out other cadets after winning, but he’s not watching, he’s busy yelling at one of the Bullies who hit his opponent in the head – causing the other cadet to end up kneeling on the floor, crying and clutching their face.

“Why don’t you fight Thomas, or Michael” you suggest to Chesi, with a shrug she heads off into the crowd of cadets, as you pick out your next victim, er, sparring partner.

You see another girl standing by herself and holding her sword in a two handed grip, looking around for a partner you think.

You walk up to her “Hi I’m Mili” you say smiling.

The girl glances at you nervously “I’m Jenny, milady” she says quietly.

“Wanna spar?” you ask eagerly.

“If it pleases milady” says Jenny, bobbing her head at you. That’s weird, she’s acting like the servants sometimes do around your mothers.

You take up your stance and attack, in two quick strikes its over and you are victorious, well that wasn’t very fun. Jenny looks like she didn’t enjoy it either, blushing and looking down “Sorry” she whispers.

You’re about to tell her that it’s ok, she’ll get better when the instructor yells to stop sparring.

With the weaponry lesson over you all take your pads off and head inside, that was your last lesson of the day and after washing your hands and faces its time for your evening meal.

You say a quick prayer over dinner, after eating you have a few hours free before you are due to go to bed.

The instructors have told you that you can do as you please, and as some of the older cadets take late lesson you can join them, advanced as they are, or play or rest, or read in the library.

Chesi refights your duel, swinging an imaginary spear through the air as you walk away from the mess hall “And when you went left if I had stepped back and then forwards again you would have been unable to stop me and I totally woulda had you” she says.

You open your mouth to point out how totally wrong she is when you hear a voice saying “hey wait up!” you both turn to see Thomas running to catch up to you, with Michael in tow.

You wait until they catch up and then Thomas asks breathlessly “So what are you doing now?”
>>
You shrug and look at Chesi, you hadn’t really made plans yet. You also see Jenny walking away down another corridor, alone.

“I want to join the older cadets Weapons lesson” says Chesi “I think I can beat you this time.”

“But there’s sooooo many books in the library here” says Michael “heraldry and history and holy books, even magic books!”

Thomas lowers his voice “Or” he says “we could go exploring, I heard from some of the older cadets about an abandoned tower we could explore, that’s way more fun than weapons or books.”

That wasn’t on the list of allowed activities though...

“Hey Jenny” you say “Over here!” you wave to her as she turns at the sound of her name and heads over to your group as other cadets stream past you.

“Can I help milady?” asks Jenny quietly.

“Yeah” you say explaining “Chesi wants to go to Weapons class, again. Michael thinks we should read in the library” you lower your voice “And Thomas thinks we should go exploring, what do you want to do?”

“You want me to...come with you?” asks Jenny, sounding unsure.

“Duh yeah” you say “I dunno what I want to do, they all seem good in their own way.” You all look at her, waiting for her to break the tie in the votes.

Jenny seems to shrink under the attention before saying meekly “I like reading, perhaps the library?”

Michael nods in approval and heads forwards, leading the way. Thomas gives a snort of disgust and huffs “girls!”

You’re distracted from punching him for that by Chesi, who starts complaining about missing out on weapons practise. Jenny follows your group quietly, a couple of steps behind.

By the time you reach the library you have Chesi cheered up. Michael heads straight for a table in a secluded part of the library and takes a book down titled *A Complete History of Dornmer Volume VI* That sounds boring. Chesi voices a similar opinion.

“Its really interesting!” says Michael “Its got stories of battles and politics and everything!”

“Right” says Chesi “just like I said – booooring!” You start looking for books that might interest you.

Thomas manages to find a book about past paladins of Konig and he and Chesi both start reading that.

Jenny has...gone? No, wait, there she is, she has found a book titled *Strange Magics* huh that’s weird.

All of them have their books spread out on a single table and soon they are reading quietly.

What do you read?

> Try to talk to Jenny and get her to open up
>>
You sit next to Jenny and read the book with her, she flicks through the pages as if looking for something.

“What’re you looking for?” you ask.

“I’m sorry milady” says Jenny hesitantly; pausing in turning the page “would you like to read this entry?”

“That’s not it” you say “I mean, also, why are you so....” you wrack your brain for the right words “always so quiet and saying milady all the time.”

Jenny pauses “I’m sorry” she says.

“You didn’t answer” you point out.

Jenny looks away, like she’s upset or something “My family are servants” she says, sounding like she’s ready to cry “I don’t belong here, not with nobles and such.”

“That’s silly” you point out “sure some kids are nobles, but some aren’t, why shouldn’t you be here?”

“My family...the nobles they serve” says Jenny, sniffling a little “They are very clear on nobles being nobles and servants being servants, and how servants must act, and how we cannot play together and how if something is wrong, it’s the servants fault.”

You try to wrap your head around that, it just doesn’t make sense. You’ve played with kids who were from servant families, and you got punished by mama Sofia for punching a servant boy once, even though he was being mean and deserved it.

Jenny seems ready to cry, it must not make much sense to her either.

What do you do?

>Hug her
>Ask her why she came to be a paladin

Unlikely, but in a Konig paladin school they obviously got taught his doctrine and everything. And she knows about her ancestry too, so she would probably think well of him.
I mean, could you hate a grandpa that gives you superpowers?
>>
You hug Jenny, at first she tenses up, and then she relaxes, and even hugs you back, a little.

“Feeling better?” you ask her, your arms still around her.

“Yeah” she sniffles a bit as she replies.

“Chesi’s not a noble and she belongs here” you say, Chesi looks up as you mention her name and stares at you hugging Jenny, before smiling and returning to her book “And grandpa Konig must want you here because otherwise why would you be a paladin-cadet?”

Jenny chokes out a laugh “I don’t think it works that way milady-” She starts

“Mili” you say

Jenny just looks at you.

“My name is Mili” you say “not *milady* - although *Mili-day* does sound good, a whole day just for me, where I can do whatever I want. Anyways, call me Mili.”

“Ok, uh Mili” says Jenny “Um, anyway, not every paladin-cadet gets to be a full paladin, some become priests or knights and some get sent home I heard. Not everyone gets to be a paladin of Koni-”

Jenny goes still in your hug

“What?” you say

“Did you say *grandpa Konig*?” squeaks Jenny
“Yeah” you say “but not my actual grandpa “more like my great-great-great....great grandpa, I think.”

“Divine One!” wails Jenny, trying to break your hug “I don’t, I can’t, I’m not worthy!”

“Worthy of what?” you ask, as Jenny squirms in your arms.

“Of...of anything!” says Jenny, still trying to get away “to speak to you or touch you or serve you or...or anything.”

Thomas and Michael seem engrossed in their books, or maybe they just don’t care. Chesi knows all about Konig being your grandpa and so doesn’t mind. You’re a bit unsure what to do about Jenny. Fortunately Chesi has helpful advice, leaning over to whisper “Just say she’s your personal servant or something – humans need like titles and roles my mothers said.”

Jenny seems to be panicking a bit, a still trying to get away from your hug, though you think its more about the Grandpa Konig thing and not that she doesn’t like you.
>>
What do you say to her?

>What Chesi said, you’re my personal servant, so hugging is ok
>Um, I’m not related to Konig, it was just a joke
>It’s ok for us to hug and talk and stuff, because I said so

“It’s ok for us to hug and stuff” you say to Jenny “because I said so” you keep your hold on Jenny and eventually she stops trying to get away and relaxes again.

“I don’t think it works like that....” she says hesitantly.

“It does” you say firmly. Jenny seems to accept that.

With Jenny calmed down a bit you ask “So why did you come here, and what are you looking in this book for?”

Jenny answers quietly “It’s sort of the same thing “milad-, er, Mili. My parents always said I was a strange child and the priest of Konig examined me to see if the things I did where dangerous.”

“What sort of things?” You ask.

“Things jumping off shelves or breaking” says Jenny “knowing when the weather was going to change, lost animals in the woods finding me, stuff like that.”

That doesn’t sound dangerous to you “So what did the priest say?” you ask.

“He said I was a Channeller” says Jenny, screwing up her face as she tries to explain “like a mage or a priest but instead of only magic from one place I can use magic from lots of places but the priest said that could be bad because demons or bad people could fill me with bad magic and it was best if I came here to learn to be a priest or paladin so that I would only get used to using Konigs magic and that would keep me safe from bad magic.” Jenny takes a big breath after explaining all of that.

Well that sounds just like the nerd stuff Vivi would like.

“And you’re looking in the book for that?” you ask. Jenny nods “If I knew more about channelling” she says “maybe it won’t be so scary.”

“Yeah” you agree. The two of you look through the book on strange magics for stuff about channelling, finally you find it. There’s a lot of stuff there and some of it doesn’t make sense.

One bit does, sorta.
>>
-As the channeller is a vessel for magics- it says –channelling a particular type of magic makes the attraction of errant magics less likely. A channeller holding no magic will absorb magic they come into contact with, as a dry cloth absorbs water, but a channeller whom holds magic is unlikely to absorb magic freely, and indeed must concentrate to do so-

You skip some stuff about magic affecting something called the *seat of reason* and read on.

-And so it is advisable that a novice channeller carry regularly a small amount of magic of a type that is harmless to avoid the uncontrolled channelling of magics they encounter-

You think its saying that Jenny should carry some magic with her to...protect against other magic. You scratch your head, maybe Vivi can explain that one to you.

“I think this is saying you should channel some magic” you say to Jenny “just in case.”

“That’s what the priest said” says Jenny, nodding “He said the divine magic of Konig would protect me.”

You think about that, you have some magic, and Chesi has some magic, you don’t know about Thomas or Michael – but you haven’t seen them use magic. Or you could try praying to grandpa Konig to ask him for some magic for Jenny, or maybe Jenny shouldn’t be channelling magic yet.

“Maybe you shouldn’t yet” you say to Jenny.

Jenny looks unhappy “If I don’t” she says “things happen around me and I don’t like it, I came here to stop strange things happening around me and getting blamed for them.”

Well, you can’t argue with that.

What do you think Jenny should do?

>Channel your magic
>Channel Chesi’s magic
>Channel Konigs magic
>Channel a combination magic (which?)
>Channel other magic (what?)
>Not Channel magic yet, might be dangerous

“I think you should channel my magic” you say to Jenny.

“But the priest said-” she protests

“I know” you say “but priest training and paladin training takes a long time – you can have some of mine now, it’s ok, mine always comes back.”

“Uh ok...” says Jenny “but how?”

That’s a good question. You think for a bit.

“I know” you say “Mama Isla lent Vivi magic once, I think I remember how she taught him.”

You stop hugging Jenny and instead take hold of her hands, and repeat what you recall mama Isla saying.

“Inside you is a well of magic, of power, it is neither in your heart, nor belly, nor head, it is deep inside all of you. It’s normally closed, but you need to breathe deeply and open it....”

After several false starts and a half-hour you suddenly feel weak, like you’ve exhausted your magic. Jenny on the other hand looks really lively, her eyes almost glow and her hair is all...shiny.

“I can feel it!” she exclaims “I can feel it, I feel like an angel!”

You see a pair of see-through glowing wings appear on Jennys back, for just an instant, then they disappear. Thomas, Michael and Chesi all stare in amazement at Jenny – who blushes a little “I think I can feel your magic” she whispers to you “inside me, its beautiful.”

Spoiler-ed for meta and plot

the fight would have been *very* unlikely to have killed or seriously injured Sireyi or Delax.

Nearby mortals would likely have died.

Delax would have tried to spin it as hard as he could as Sireyi attacking him and his followers on his territory.

This may have convinced gods that have no strong reason to support Sireyi or Delax in any potential future votes to side against Sireyi.
>>
>>39431362
Does Mili have access to storm magic like Sireyi?
>>
>>39431362

So pox on both houses, he would have likely attacked if we did not withdraw, likely out of annoyance and anger.

Then he spins it to turn people against Sireyi.

It would have whipped his own worshipers into a higher fervor too.

Now he can claim Sireyi backed down to him to his own people too, but other gods would likely see the truth.
