You are not Sireyi Valyenya, Queen of the nation of Oreia. In fact before today, you seldom even met her.

You and the rest of the Belt Notchers stand before Sireyi, queen of Oreia, saviour of the succubi nation.

The Queen has summoned you here because she has a vital mission for you, and you’re the best (if not the most stable) group of adventurers in all Oreia.

The ranger and trap expert, Volkna, dressed professionally and standing at attention.

The boisterous fighter, Anli, wearing layers of furs and with a huge sword resting on her shoulders.

The melancholy bard, Genesiya, idly strumming a funeral march on her lute. Her black clothing a match for her mood.

One of the first priestesses of Sireyi, Ilnesin. Wearing her white robes and holding no weapons, claiming she only needs faith in her goddess to protect her.

Fidgeting with a knife, Nansuj the rogue and sorceress. Looking sharply around, wondering if anyone is a disguised slaad.

The necromancer, Aboswe, the pale ropes and bones of her outfit a stark contrast to her dark skin, her spear held in one hand. None of her undead pets are with her, for now.

Which are you?

You are of course...

>The trap-obsessed ranger, Volkna
>The cheerful fighter, Anli
>The sulking bard, Genesiya
>The priestess, Ilnesin
>The erratic rogue and sorceress, Nansuj
>The necromancer/summoner, Aboswe

20 minute vote to allow a quick reading of the character descriptions in the pastebin, then we get started.

I will choose in the event of a tie.

Better to be the one who has all the knowledge skills.

2 new artefacts that Sireyi can build have been added to her character sheet.

Angelic Wings of Fire added to rules pastebin. Autism Anon has been busy.

I mean, what else do we play if not the crazy bitch?
>>
>>39846920
>One of the first priestesses of Sireyi, Ilnesin. Wearing her white robes and holding no weapons, claiming she only needs faith in her goddess to protect her.
Oh dear.
Cane we buy the succubus domain before they leave for the adventure?

>The priestess, Ilnesin
>>
>>39846920
>>39846947
>Cane we buy the succubus domain before they leave for the adventure?
I'm seconding that, since the HolyAura/UnholyAura issue hasn't been settled, and two of them have those.
>>
>>39846947
>>39846965
Chronologically this takes place after things have been settled.

Holy/Unholy affects cast by succubi on this adventure will not harm them or their allies.
>>
>>39846986
So Sireyi has the domain? Sweet.
>>
>>39846920
>The necromancer/summoner, Aboswe
>>
>>39846998
I think he's more saying one way or the other its been settled, I don't think he's going to give us the Domain without vote.
>>
>>39846920
I'm still tickled that the necrophiliac necromancer has "Affirmation of Life".
Goddamn succubi.
>>
>>39847019
Correct
>>
>>39847019
That doesn't make sense.
>>
>>39847050
Presumably the next thread with Sireyi will start out with her finding a way to have Unholy/Holy Aura not affect her followers.
Maybe there is another way to do that, or it just gets retconned or whatever.
>>
So I've been reading up on the rules, and I found a couple interesting spells and spell combinations in there.
First of all, there is this Massive Dragon Form thing, which allows us to become A FUCKING 165ft LONG DRAGON HOLY COW! But that's not all. Also, there is this level 1 sorcerer spell, I'm going to quote it:
>Enlarge: creature doubles in size.
Doubles. Fucking doubles! We can literally become a 330ft dragon, suck on that Tarrasque! But wait, it gets even better.
There is the perfect simulacrum spell that can give us LITERALLY AN ARMY OF HUGE ASS GIGANTIC BLACK DRAGONS OF DOOM! Why isn't it done yet?
>>
>>39847073
Because only AA bothers reading the rules and we let him do whatever out of laziness.
>>
>>39847073
Because
>Lighnting Bolt +(add DE as necessary)
Already solves all problems far more efficient.
Especially in Soul of Light.
>>
>>39847073
We turn Dragon quite often, actualy. And making simulacrums is tricky issue, because they don't go away so fast. Just ask the Lord of life.
>>
>>39847073
Because size difference doesn't really give us much of a mechanical advantage.

>>39847090
A lot of us read the rules, don't project your laziness on others.
>>
>>39847092
Can your lightning bolt solve our political issues? No? You know what can? A FUCKING ARMY OF DRAGONS! Just think about it.
>>
>>39847120
>Can your lightning bolt solve our political issues? No?
Yes. In the exact same way a army of dragons can.
And Simulacrums aren't something you can make in-masses, because they are free willed entities.
>>
>>39846920
>The sulking bard, Genesiya
>>
>>39847120
We could totally solve all our political issues with massive force, we wouldn't need a army of dragons for it. But its not Sireyis nature to use violence if she can avoid it, and most certainly not using a slave army of dragons.
>>
>>39847129
They are, essentially, a copy of their original, influenced by the caster. Thus, if we create simulacrums of ourselves, they won't do anything bad, and will generally try to help us out with the lord of life.
>>
>>39847165
>They are, essentially, a copy of their original, influenced by the caster. Thus, if we create simulacrums of ourselves, they won't do anything bad, and will generally try to help us out with the lord of life.
Tell that our sister.
>>
>>39847182
She was created by LoL from his enemy and he totally lost control over her. If we create copies of ourselves they won't go evil for no reason even if we loose control over them.
>>
Necromancer it is, writing.
>>
>>39847165
>Thus, if we create simulacrums of ourselves, they won't do anything bad, and will generally try to help us out with the lord of life.
And afterwards? Just let those houndreds of Sireyis hang around? All developing their own personalities.
And you see no issue from a role-playing perspective with making a clone army?
>>
>>39847195
They can go evil just as likely as our twin went good. As long as Sireyi has a capacity for evil, and she very much does, they can totally go evil.
>>
>>39847195
>they won't go evil for no reason
They will go evil for the same reason our twin went good.
And many of the same reasons our Twin resents us too.
What do you do with all those Sireyis who want their wives and children for themselves?
You think they will want to share them among eachother? We already have issues with that one twin in this regard.
>>
>>39847249
>You think they will want to share them among eachother?
I'm sure both Jal and Isla would be fine with that.
>>
>>39847264
Jal still needs to work on getting just the Sofias into one bed, let alone all the wives, before she can start thinking about hypothetical additional Sireyis.
>>
“Thank you all for meeting with me” says Sireyi “I appreciate you taking time out of your normal business to-”

“Oh I wouldn’t call plundering ruins a business” says Anli, holding her sword in one hand so she can start stretching and limbering up “more of a hobby.”

“It makes money” points out Volkna “so it’s a business.”

“Really?” says Nansuj, turning to look at Volkna with a sceptical expression “does this mean I can call cutting purses a business and claim expenses for knife sharpening, because-”

“To come here and listen to my request” says Sireyi, hardly seeming bothered that half of your party is now engaged in a debate “so, I know this is a lot to ask of you, but will you do it?”

“You can count on us your Majesty” you say, bowing. Genesiya and Inlesin follow your lead, the other continue arguing.

Sireyi looks a little confused “I thought Volkna was your leader” she says.

“Oh she was, yesterday” clarified Genesiya “today it’s Aboswe.”

Sireyi looks to Ilnesin for an explanation

“No one wanted to be the leader” she says “So we switch around, it’s Aboswe for, um...”

“Eight blessed weeks” you mumble under your breath, wishing you hadn’t kept ducking your turn for the last year.
---
Sometime later, on a mortal plane far, far away...

“Are we lost again?” asks Anli, pulling her furs tighter around herself as you all glide on chilly winter winds over a mountain range, looking for the Lair of Jankiris the Mad.

“We are not lost” insists Volkna, checking her map “it should be around here somewhere.”

“You said that an hour ago!” complains Nansuj “I’m cold!”

“It won’t kill you” says Genesiya “it’s barely freezing temperature.”

Their next words are lost to you, as ahead, you see it, a tall mountain, with a gigantic skull carved out of the top of it, smoke rising from it.

“Ah Jankiris” you whisper “the classic skull atop a mountain, I think I might like you after all...”
>>
Eventually your fellow adventurers see it as well and Volkna congratulates herself as you all circle the mountain several times.

“Ok” says Volkna “there’re three main entrances: the smoking skull, which I’m sure will have lots of interesting traps for me to investigat- er, I mean, it’ll be well-defended.”

“The caves halfway up the mountain have lots of trails headed from them” says Anli “could be orcs, ogres maybe, either way, a good fight.”

“The caves at the bottom of the mountain seem deserted” observes Ilnesin “that seems the safest way in.”

You and Nansuj share a look, Nansuj sighs and adds “the whole place has lots of different magical auras on it” she says “but we *might* be able to teleport in.”

“That’s a terrible idea” points out Genesiya, as you all circle around on a weak thermal “we don’t even know where the Gem is in that place, and we could end up being misdirected to some horrible dungeon, chained to a wall, whilst out captors take their times breaking us all in cruel and creative ways and-”

“Well we know which option has Genesiyas vote” comments Nansuj “but today, Aboswe is in charge.”

They all look to you. Of course, you don’t have to rush blindly in, you think, you could scry the place out, or capture one of the locals and talk to them.

How will you enter the place?

>Through the skull

“Genesiya, Anli, Ilnesin, Nansuj” you direct your companions “go capture one of the locals, see what you can find about this place.” They all nod and start to descend towards the caves part-way up the mountain.

“Volkna” you say “find me something to scry with.”

You and Volkna split off and head fly across the mountain side, keeping low, Volkna has her bow in her hands and suddenly looses an arrow.

You follow her shot until you see some small furry predator bleeding out in the snow, it’s dying, but still alive, good, that helps with the spell...

[AE 289/303]

Later, with the things entrails steaming in the snow, you interpret the results.

“The Gem is just below the Skull” you say to Volkna “going in through there is the shortest route.”

“I’ll get my trap kit out!” she says enthusiastically, the familiar hunger evident in her eyes. Weirdo, why can’t she get turned on by something normal, like undead?

“But it’s also the most dangerous route” you say, indicating a green wobbly bit “see this, that means a lot of danger.”

“*A lot of danger*” repeats Volkna sceptically “usually your spells are more detailed.”

“This would be” you gripe “except the whole place is warded against scrying, and alarmed against scrying. This was as much detail as I could get, without tripping any alarms.”

“So we’re relying on Nansujs interrogation skills for information” says Volkna in a resigned tone.

“May the Saviour protect us all” you say.
---
After double-checking your results you both head over to see how your companions are doing.

They’re standing around the body of an orc that’s lying in the snow, bleeding heavily. It looks recently dead, or maybe it’s still ali- nope, it just died. Still, one more corpse for your collection.

“Well?” you as as the two of you descend “how did it go?”

“She murdered it for no reason!” fumes Ilnesin, pointing at Nansuj

“It might’ve been a slaad” Nansuj defends herself “they can be really cunning.”
>>
You roll your eyes “I meant, what did you find out?”

“Don’t look at me” says Anli, holding up her hands defensively “it was still alive when I caught it.”

“I read its mind” says Genesiya “it’s last thoughts were full of fear” she shivers and smiles.

In truth you like experiencing the thoughts of things as they die too, to peer into death is exciting in its own way, but you remind yourself you’re here to do a job “what did you find out?” you ask Genesiya.

“The orc clans live mid-mountain” she says “further down there are some monsters that sometimes come up to prey on them, and below that I *think* there might be illithids. The orcs worship Jankiris as a sort of god, and don’t venture too high up, for fear of him. I think I have an idea of where his stronghold is, just below the skull” you nod, that’s where the Gem seems to be too.

“So it’s down the throat then” says Volkna, “excellent, I’ll get my tools and-”

“Wait” says Genesiya “I think we should charm some of the orcs and use them to test out the defences on the liches strongold.”

“No!” protests Ilnesin, breaking of her argument with Nansuj, just before the two of them reach the point where they start kissing “using innocent creatures as trap-bait and monster-fodder is wrong!”

You all exchange confused glances “But they’re just orcs” says Anli “They’re not succubi, or angels, or even humans like the Goddess is related to.”

“She wouldn’t want us using them in this way” insists Ilnesin “we can do this ourselves, or use some undead to trigger the traps.”

You flinch a little, not your beautiful minions!

“I’ll deal with any traps” says Volkna

“And I can deal with any guardians” says Anli, flexing, showing off her tanned muscles.

But what is the plan?

>Down the Skull mouth, just you six
>Through the caves half-way up (and gather allies)
>Through the lower caves (monsters make good trap-fodder too)
>Teleport in (location?)
>Other (what?)

You consider the options. As much as using the orcs in the most efficient option...Ilnesin looks quite firm on this issue.

“Alright” you say “we’ll do it the way the Goddess would want” Ilnesin gives you a beautiful smile as you continue “we’ll go through the Skull, just us six, no trap-fodder.” You wince a little inside though, you just know that sooner or later you will end up using some of your lovely minions as trap-bai- no, no don’t think about it and maybe it won’t happen.
---
The descent into the Skull and down its *throat* is uneventful: Volkna finds and disarms many traps along the way, most of them highly lethal. By the time you arrive outside the liches stronghold proper, she’s positively giddy.

Volkna and Nansuj have been scouting ahead and they return with news, some good, some bad.

“Ok so we’ve found the fortress up ahead” says Volkna, grinning “and there are three ways in we could find. There’s two ways in from this level, one facing us, one around the back. The front one has some sort of enchanted blade trap, I think it might be a randomised sequence of blades that-”

“Volkna” you say patiently.

“Oh right” she says “anyway, the front way in is a long corridor with a powerful magical trap on it.”

“And the back entrance?” you ask.

“Mithril Golems” says Nansuj “two of them.”

Mithril Golems?!!!!

“Mithril Golems!” exclaims Ilnesin “How rich was Jankiris?”

Anli rotates her head and cracks her knuckles “finally” she says “A real fight!”

“Sure” says Genesiya “incredibly fast, strong golems that are almost impervious to weapons and magic, and can grow blades, sounds fun, yes indeed....”

“And the third way?” you ask

“Orcs way in” says Nansuj with a shrug “lots of blood there, some very old, I think a sacrifice is needed to open the way from below, plus we’d all need to look the part at least.”

“Well then” Ilnesin turns to Volkna “looks like we’ll be taking the front entrance.”
>>
“Excellent” says Volkna, rubbing her hands together “shouldn’t take me more than 3 or 4 months to disarm it.”

“3 or 4 months?” you ask “since when does it take you that long?”

“It’s two hundred interlinked mechanisms with back-ups and redundancies” says Volkna defensively “plus its magic.”

“Oh yes...” says Nansuj “protections against dispelling, alarms and I think the tunnel has some sort of sealing spell but not one I know.”

“Well” says Volkna “instead of disarming it, we could just run the gauntlet, I *think* I can predict how the blades will fall, maybe.”

Oh great, three paths to choose from, and none good.

You could run through the front corridor, and maybe all get cut up.

You could try to fight a pair of golems made of mithril.

You could try to get in from below, but killing something (probably an orc) will be required, and it might only open for orcs anyway.

Or you could try something else.

How will you attempt to access the fortress?

“The front seems the safest way” you say, with a glance at Ilnesin, you just know she’ll get upset if you take the *easy* way in and kill an orc or two.

“Excellent!” says Volkna, rubbing her hands together gleefully “do exactly as I say and you might just live....”
---
The six of you stand at one end of a long corridor that stretches ahead, a good 300ft, ending in a solid-looking iron door.

The walls, floor and ceiling are criss-crossed with thin grooves, in fact there are so many it looks like this entire place is covered in tiles.

“So the blades come out of those” says Volkna “in patterns, but may be able to change direction too, I’ll know more when I see them move.”

You can feel...arcane energies in this place too, a simple spell confirms that not all the blades will come out of the walls, some will be conjured right into the corridor in mid-air.

“Why don’t we just fly down it?” suggests Anli “we can avoid the sides” Which is true, the corridor is 15ft high and wide, but...

“The blades will be long enough to hit you even in mid-air” says Volka.

“Then we teleport” says Ilnesin, pointing at the door “to just over there.”

Nansuj shakes her head “diverting spell” she says “could end up anywhere, and a dispelling will just trip...stuff.”

Volkna nods “What we need” she says “is to trigger it for long enough that I get a feel for the pattern, then I can figure out how to get past it.”

You sigh, you know what she wants, a hundred or so skeletons or zombies down that corridor, ah my beauties, why must you suffer so...

Genesiya catches on to your mood “I can persuade some orcs to run forwards for us.” She suggests. Ilnesin glares at her.

Or...you could sheath the walls in walls of force, but doing so would exhaust most of your reserves, and a few blades will still impede you.

I wonder how hard would it be to make our own entrance... surely skeletons are able to dig?
>>
Your poor undead, they didn’t do anything to deserve this...

You steel yourself, knowing this is going to hurt, but also knowing that Ilnesin will get *very* upset if you went with Genesiyas plan.

You summon up a small horde of a hundred skeletons, and with a wave of your hand send them down the corridor.

[AE 284/303]

Blades spring from walls, floor and ceiling and more appear in mid-air. As the first ones strike your lovelies with sickening crunching sounds, you turn your back, you can’t watch this.

You screw up your eyes and plug your fingers in your ears, but you can still hear your darlings being sliced and mangled. You bit down on your lower lip, tasting your own blood, strong, you have to be strong, it will be over soon you tell yourself.

You feel an arm go around your shoulders as you start to sob, you smell the scent of vanilla in the air, and you hear Ilnesin saying to you soothingly “It’ll be ok Aboswe, I’m here for you, don’t worry...”

After what seems like an eternity you hear Volkna say “Ok, I’ve got it.”

You turn around, and wipe your eyes, trying not to focus on the carpet of bone fragments extending a third of the way up the tunnel.

“Are you sure?” you ask Volkna, your voice a little hoarse.

Volkna nods “I am” she says “the pattern is complex, but if you all follow me closely, we can make it through, except....”

“Except...?” you ask.

Volkna looks uncomfortable.

Nansuj says “the summoned blades don’t more in a pattern, they just seek out targets, we can probably dodge them, but it would be a lot easier if they had a lot of targets to choose from.”

Your shoulders slump a little, more of your darlings have to die it seems.

“You’ll get more” says Ilnesin, hugging you tightly from behind “I promise.”
>>
The others just watch you, awaiting your answer. You don’t want any more of your pets to suffer, but these are your friends.

Damn Jankiris for making you do this!

You summon more of your skeletons, and zombies too, enough to flood the corridor as you and your friends fly over their heads.

Blades rip into your undead army, shredding them, all you can hear is the cracking of bones and all you can see is your minions being destroyed. Your loyal, faithful minions who never complain, never try to hurt you.

You’re so caught up in their plight that you don’t see the flying blade coming for your head. As your friends yell out a warning you stretch out a hand and explode it with magical energy.

[AE 269/303]

You feel a little better after that, but you still want to see Jankiris suffer for what he made you do.

After that you and your friends easily dodge the few flying blades that assail you – most of them are too busy attacking your darlings to worry about you and your friends.

Finally its over, and you pace back and forth at the end of the corridor as Nansuj and Volkna work as a team, disabling the locks and traps on the door.

“How’re you doing?” asks Ilnesin, as Anli watches you warily.

“Jankiris is going to pay dearly for that” you growl. You’re no longer sad, you’re angry, you want to hurt something.

Ilnesin wisely decides not to argue, and Genesiya just smiles at you.

Eventually Nansuj and Volkna open the door to reveal....a 20ft by 20ft by 20ft room. It has hatch-like doors in three walls and in the ceiling and floor. It seems to be made entirely of metal.

“What in the Hells?” asks Anli.

Volkna holds up a finger “Shhhh” she says, you all quiet down, and then you hear it, metal grinding against metal.

“What is it?” asks Ilnesin
>>
“Shifting puzzle box” says Nansuj “a big one”

“Yeah” says Volkna, nodding “hundreds of rooms like this one, gears move them around and each one could be harmless, or given who lives here, could be trapped, filled with poison or acid gas, or have a golem in it.”

“This....could take some time then” says Genesiya “I take it Jankiris is somewhere in there?”

“Most likely” says Ilnesin “seems like a defence that can slow anyone down.”

“We could just break it” suggests Anli “we’d only have to ruin some to jam the whole thing.”

“No!” protests Volkna “I can find a way through this, might take some time, but I can do it!”

You smile grimly, so this is Jankiris’ own little moving fortress? Well you have something like that, and yours can probably tear his apart.

How do you deal with this puzzle box?

You spend close to a week in this place, and were it not for your friends, and the close bond you all share, you would have gone crazy after a day.

Progress through this place is slow, but you work with Volkna and Nansuj to mark every room you pass through, and record how often the rooms move, what you encounter in here, and when you start to encounter marked rooms, it starts to make sense, almost.

You pass through room after room. You face golems, animated objects, undead, even living creatures frozen in stasis that awaken and attack once you enter the room. Volkna disarms bladed traps, poisonous ones, traps that spray acid, even ones equipped with holy blades.

And then you come across a rather curious inhabitant of one of the rooms.

“Are you sure?” asks Nansuj “It could be something else in disguise – remember those tentacled slaad we fought yesterday?”

“Those were illithids” says Ilnesin patiently.

“They looked like slaad” says Nansuj.

“Everything does to her” you hear Genesiya say under her breath.

You gaze down at the rooms inhabitant. She doesn’t look like much: a human woman in heavy armour, a shield on one arm, a waraxe in in the other. She looks young, maybe 20?

Like the other living inhabitants of this place she is motionless, frozen in time by a spell until you enter the room, he shoeld held in front of her body, her axe raised to attack.

What’s unusual is the symbol on her surcoat and shield: It’s the holy symbol of a god called Azastor.

You recall that Azastor was killed something like a thousand years ago, you wrack your brain for information about the god but don’t come up with much. He was a god that wanted his followers to fight evil by...what was the phrase in his holy text, ah yes, *wipe out evil by word and deed* - something about trying to redeem evil creatures, but it that failed to fight them.

“I’m telling you” says Ilnesin “I think she’s a paladin.”
>>
“Paladins are magic resistant though” says Nansuj “so why is she here?”

“Resistant” says Genesiya “not immune.”

“That’s a holy weapon” you say, pointing to the axe “Getting hit by that is going to hurt, a lot.”

“Well, whatever” says Anli, preparing to jump into the room “I’ll hold her off, you all get to the next door.”

“It’s that one” says Volkna, pointing to a door in one of the walls.

“Wait” says Genesiya “can’t just go around her?”

You share glances with Nansuj and Volkna “yes” says Volkna, drawing out the word “but it would add another twenty rooms onto our journey to the centre, I think.”

“We should wake her up and talk to her” says Ilnesin “she could be an ally.”

“An ally, really?” says Anli, giving Ilnesin a *have you gone crazy* look “A paladin?”

>so many fiends that are considering or have already embarked on path of goodness
I don't think all that many Oreian succubi are actually embarking on the path to goodness, most of them just follow the law and build their homes, they are at best of a path to neutrality.
>>
>>39851950
>most of them just follow the law and build their homes, they are at best of a path to neutrality.

Most of them I think just want to live on their own, raise a family and then live peacefully without being demon lunch.

More then likely will see younger ones leaning towards good then neutrality is they do not live the hellish life the parents made. Over time type thing.
>>
>>39852002
>will see younger ones leaning towards good then neutrality is they do not live the hellish life the parents made
They still are demons, and therefore naturally inclined to evil, so its not all that clear.
The next few generations definitly will lean more towards good, due to Sireyis influence and being raised in a enviroment that remembers how shit hell was, a few generations donw the line depends on how powerful Sireyis church becomes in Oreian culture.
Its definitly helped by succubi living for millenia.
>>
>>39851950
>I don't think all that many Oreian succubi are actually embarking on the path to goodness, most of them just follow the law and build their homes, they are at best of a path to neutrality.
well, even that's an improvement compared to hell. Hopefully having Sireyi as an approachable patron deity will give them a role model too.

>>
>>39852399
>Also, are you implying that not a single succubi or orc follower of Sireyi has died with all the war, cold, sickness and other environmental hazards?
Pally had confirmed that no succubus of Oreia has died since the founding. Although I admit I had only thought about those when I took that to mean we have no one in our heaven, its not clear what happens to our sisters followers.
They 'should' go there, I suppose.

>>39852454
That seems highly unlikely, in a country of one million people, living in harsh conditions, for how many years? In any case, what about the orcs? Or did our sisters win all the battles herself, just to preserve the manpower?
>>
“Yes a paladin” you say to Anli, to Ilnesin you say “you’re up.” You give Ilnesin a run-down on everything you know about Azastor

You all descend into the room, as you do so the young woman starts to move, swinging her axe down violently and striking the floor. Much like the other creatures trapped in stasis, for her no time at all has passed since she was frozen, perhaps by Jankiris himself.

She looks around, searching for the foe she once faced, her long blond hair whipping around her.

Seeing herself surrounded by a half-dozen succubi she grits her teeth, raises her waraxe and prepares to charge.

“Wait” says Ilnesin, approaching her slowly, her hands held up and empty, appearing as non-threatening as possible “we just want to talk, we mean you no harm.”

The paladin, appearing to be more a girl than a woman pauses, but doesn’t lower her axe “Who are you?” she asks “Where did Jankiris go?”

Ah, so it seems she was facing the lich himself, this could be a very fruitful conversation, if Ilnesin doesn’t blow it.

“We came here looking for Jankiris too” says Ilnesin “perhaps we share a common enemy?”

“I’d sooner die than ally myself with demons!” blurts out the girl, in what seems like a rote response to you, not one she thought about.

“If I was an ordinary demon” says Ilnesin “could I do this?”

And as the girl watches, Ilnesin casts her spell, surrounding herself with the holy light of the savour, her Goddess Sireyi.

Initially the girl tenses as if to attack Ilnesin as she casts the spell but then she relaxes as holy light washes over her.

“How..?” she asks, clearly confused.

“We are followers of Sireyi Valyenya” says Ilnesin “The Saviour – by her grace we are no longer creatures of Hell, we are no longer damned.”

The young paladin just looks confused. Perhaps Ilnesin is going too fast?
>>
>>39852523
>That seems highly unlikely, in a country of one million people, living in harsh conditions, for how many years?
Its definitly very plausible for Oreia, it didn't have any harsh conditions, due to our sanctum, and the succubi are used to living in hell, the Tribal lands are a paradise by comparison.
And succubi are largely natural spellcasters, and as you see with our crew here, some of them are absurdly high-powered.
The only military conflict Oreia had was that short skrimish when they enlarged their borders, and those orcs didn't stand a chance.

Really only our sisters followers would have died. And yeah, we don't really know what happens to those. Should probably have some by now.
>>
“Let’s start with something more basic” says Ilnesin “you are a paladin of Azastor, yes?”

“Yes” says the girl guardedly.

“And you have, through his grace, the ability to sense good and evil?” asks Ilnesin.

“I do” says the girl “but what does that have to with-”

“What do you sense from me?” asks Ilnesin gently.

The girl glares at you all suspiciously and the concentrates, saying “I sense both evil...and good, but how?”

“As I said” says Ilnesin “through the grace of our saviour.”

The girl gives her a searching look “explain.”

“I’m Ilnesin” says Ilnesin “might I know your name?”

“Shalra” says the young paladin.

“Well Shalra” says Ilnesin “it’s like this....”
---
For the next several hours, Ilnesin and Shalra talk. Ilnesin talks about Sireyi, and how she came to hell to rescue the succubi. You decline to point out that she was in hell for her own reasons, and sort of stumbled across the succubi.

What you do is brew some tea for them both, soon they’re sat cross-legged, facing one another and chatting.

Ilnesin talks about Sireyi, and Velya, also touching on Konigs doctrine a little too.

Shalra counters by saying how evil can wear a fair countenance, how even her senses might be fooled. Her blue eyes are flinty and determined.

Ilnesin asks about Azastors doctrine, about Azastors views on dealing with evil.

“So you say yourself that Azastor said that redemption is for everyone?” says Ilnesin “with no qualifiers?”

“No one is so stained with evil that they cannot seek salvation” quotes Shalra “but it’s not a simple fix, it’s more than repenting, it’s working hard every day to attain it, I don’t think demons can be redeemed, its not in their – not in your – nature.”

“Does Azastors teachings have anything about angels falling?” asks Ilnesin. Inwardly you grin, there’s always one angel that falls for some reason.

“Of course” says Shalra “but you can’t compare- they’re not the same.”
>>
“If angels can fall” says Ilnesin, smiling “why can’t demons seek redemption?”

Shalra opens her mouth to answer, closes it, opens it again and then sighs saying “I don’t know, you’re asking some pretty deep theological questions, I’m just, just a soldier, and a failed one at that.”

“Don’t say that” says Ilnesin, putting a friendly hand on Shalras shoulder, she doesn’t shrug it off as Ilnesin continues “Just because you didn’t defeat Jankiris is no reason to call yourself a failure, you’ll get another chance, I’m sure.”

“It’s not that” whispers Shalra.

“Then what is it?” asks Ilnesin. She never ceases to amaze you with her ability to draw out peoples deepest secrets.

“There was a war” says Shalra “our order was under attack, our country invaded. The head of my chapter house ordered all of the young paladins out on missions, at the time we thought he was sending us in missions of vital importance, it was only later, when the news that the city our chapter house was in had been sacked, did I realise he sent us away four our own safety.”

“And your mission?” asks Ilnesin.

“To retrieve the Flawed Mirror” says Shalra “it’s a scrying mirror that lets its user see the weaknesses of an evil foe. The lich Jankiris took it from our order hundreds of years ago. I was given a letter to take to the head of a mages guild that specialised in interplanar travel, they were to send me here. But when I opened the letter, after hearing about...” her voice falters and Ilnesin squeezes her shoulder. Shalra continues “about what happened, the letter asked the mages to send me to another chapter house instead, far away from the war.”

“And they didn’t?” asks Ilnesin.

Shalra shakes her head “I wanted to, I guess I wanted to prove to the Preceptor, the chapter house master, that I could do this. I persuaded the mages to send me here instead. They gave me a map through Jankiris’ lair, but he was waiting for me.”
>>
You’re so caught up in the story that the significance is almost lost on you, a map?

“They had a map?” asks Ilnesin “just lying around?”

“Apparently some of them came to trade with Jankiris every few decades” said Shalra “Jankiris guided them in blindfolded, but somehow they still managed to make one.”

She pulls a crumpled bit of parchment from her pouch and shows it to Ilnesin. You, Volkna and Nansuj all peer over her shoulder. Your breath catches in your throat: this is it, a safe route straight to Jankiris’ inner lair!

Shalra doesn’t notice your elation “but now I’ve failed” she says despondently “I can’t even feel Azastors grace within me, I’ve fallen as a paladin.”

More likely, you think, she’s interpreting his non-existence as him withdrawing his favour from her. Still, from what you’ve read, the followers of dead gods retain the gifts they are given, as well as the divine energy bestowed upon them, but have no way of regaining it, unless they swear to another god.

Ilnesin hugs Shalra and gives you a look that plainly says she wants to help the girl.

Nansuj mimes simply stealing the map and sneaking away.

Orcs as a whole have very eclectic religious beliefs, including ancestor worship.

Orc shamans have learned how to bind orc spirits to their graves, or their clan banner, or specific locations, and can call them forth for advice, or even summon them into battle.

The Azure Empress has centralised the process somewhat.
>>

It seems very much like our sister to keep her followers in a empty void, just because she doesn't want to tell Sireyi she needs her help with something.

You’re in an underground cellar, and you’ve been talking to a succubus, but not one of the succubi who follow your Mama Sireyi. This succubus is called Faian-Throkos and she was summoned from a long way away, and trapped in a magic circle.

In the distance you can hear Aunt Philly calling your name, and a lot of other grown-ups too.

Faian-Throkos seems sure that if she’s found by priests of Konig they’ll kill her, and that seems wrong to you, that she should die just because she got summoned.

As Faian-Throkos looks at you pleadingly, kneeling in front of you, you step forwards, and using your foot, scuff away part of the salt circle imprisoning her.

Quicker than you can see she leaps forwards and wraps her arms around you, hugging you tightly to her, your body squashed against hers “Thanks kiddo” she breathes into your ear “I owe you one.”

“Ok” you say, your voice slightly muffled “just remember our deal.”

Faian-Throkos pulls back and looks you in the face “of course” she says, grinning and reciting “I, promise to go straight to Oreia to see Sireyi Valyenya as fast as I can without hurting anyone, unless they tried to hurt me first, and I try to speak to Sireyi as soon as possible.”

“Good” you say, as she climbs to her feet and takes you by the hand, the two of you heading for the yelling grown-ups.

Suddenly they come rushing around the corner, holy symbols blazing with light, weapons raised high, and all shouting.

“Get away from the child demon!” yells one old man, holding Konigs holy symbol high.

“Don’t!” Aunt Philly yells at him “you could hurt Mili!”

“Just let me be on my way!” yells Faian-Throkos, her hand in your starting to get almost painfully hot.

“Prepare to die demon!” yells another old man.
>>
>>39853298
They don't, really.
>>
>>39853309
>People don't actually read the quest, they just assume all races are identical to their more common depictions
>>
Uh oh, this is getting out of control.

“Mili!” yells Aunt Philly “Come here, get away from her!”

As they surround you, Faian-Throkos says in a sad tone “thanks kid, and nice knowing you.” Her hand releases yours, and she crouches, as if ready to jump forwards.

What do you do?
>Go over to Aunt Philly, where it’s safe
>Just get out of the way of the fight
>Protect Faian-Throkos, get in the way if you have to

You step in front of Faian-Throkos ”Don’t hurt her!” you yell, determined to explain everything. The priests of Konig pause momentarily.

Suddenly you feel yourself being lifted up, one of Faian-Throkos’ arms around you, pinning your arms against your sides. Her other hand bursts into flame and she brings it close enough to your face for you to feel the heat.

“Back off” says Faian-Throkos “or else the girl gets it.” She sounds calm, and so very sure.

Indignation surges within you, this was not the deal! You wriggle, but she only holds you tighter.

One of the priests starts to cast a spell, Aunt Philly turns and punches him “Are you mad!” she hisses “what do you think will happen if she gets hurt?”

“Smart” says Faian-Throkos “now we’re leaving, and no funny business.”

With you held tight to her chest, Faian-Throkos walks out of the cellar, out of the building and into the open air, the priests following her all the time.

Once outside she says to the priests “You sling one spell at me and I drop the girl.”

“You won’t get away with this!” yells Aunt Philly “you have no idea what of who you’re dealing with!”

“Heard that one before!” yells Faian-Throkos over her shoulder as she leaps into the air, spreading her wings. Both her arm hold you tight as she turns you around until you’re facing her, as the two of you fly up into the sky.

“This wasn’t the deal!” you point out crossly, your arms and legs wrapped around Faian-Throkos to stop you falling in case she lets go, your faces only inches apart.

“I said I’d go see this Sireyi” says Faian-Throkos, as you circle upwards “besides, you seem like a smart kid, you want to come with me?”

“I’m training to be a palading!” you insist.

“I could teach you how to be a demon!” offers Faian-Throkos, laughing “much better than paladins, but seriously, want to come with me and visit your mama?”

She can't actually make Mili into a demon, she made a joke.
Nor does Mili have any interest in becoming a demon anyway.
>>
>>39854063

>I need to stay at school. Say hello to mama when you see her though!
>>
>>39854164
You've actually made me dislike the option even more.

Regardless, that's more likely to happen from Mili having access to demon powers due to Sireyi's Succubus domain, assuming we get it. I'm not sure demon training is even a real option.
>>
>>39854164
We have demons we can trust for that.
>>
>>39854312
>I'm not sure demon training is even a real option.
Its not something Throkos could do. Blue could turn Mili into a demon, and seeing the detailed succubus stats in the charsheet I suspect the succubus domain will make it a option too.

Its just that Mili has neither interest, nor any reason to have interes in being a demon. What for?
>>
Succubus domain can grant transformation i to a demon, but it's an on/off effects.
>>
>>39854340
>What for?
For pretty much nothing.

Also it would get in the way of becoming a master necromancer. Thematic overload and all that.
>>
>>39854412
I say leave the necromancy tome to Vivi. Mili has too much for her already.
>>
“Take me back” you insist “I need to stay in school to become a palading.”

“You’re sure you don’t want to become a demon? Asks Faian-Throkos.

“Yes” you say firmly.

“Ok kiddo” says the demon “your loss, remember, when they question you, tell them I mind-controlled you – you had no idea what you were doing.”

“Did you mind-control me?” you ask.

“No, but I could have” she says “so just tell them that.”

She descends and sets you down at the edge of the school grounds, kisses you on the forehead and then flies off into the sky.

You watch her go, and then begin the long walk back to the school.
---
You’re back at the school, in Aunt Philly’s office, Aunt Philly and a lot of the instructors are there, as well as some priests you’ve never met before.

They’ve been spending a long time casting spells, and talking over your head, finally they get around to asking you what actually happened.

You look at Aunt Philly and she nods encouragingly and says “Go on Mili.”

Guys, telling the whole truth is a bad choice. She can't excuse releasing a demon just because the demon asked. She didn't even know if the succubus was good or bad, and the fact tnat it didn't know of Oreia is a worrying sign that it's not one of the good succubi.
>>

The bloodline IS her paladin powers. She got nothing else.

>>
>>39854873

>>
Paladins don’t lie, you think. You tell them the whole truth, about how your teacher was acting weird, about the succubus he trapped, about how you let her go when she promised to go to Oreia, and about how she let you go, unharmed.

Once you’ve finished talking, all the grown ups look at one another for a long time, Aunt Philly looks disappointed and says to you “Mili go back to classes now.”

“Is Chesi ok?” you ask.

“She’s fine” says Aunt Philly “now go.”

As you leave, closing the door behind you, you hear raised voices “-exception to consorting with demons only applies to citizens of Oreia, this is a serious violation and the law is clear-” says a voice you don’t know.

“Oh yes?!” you hear Aunt Philly yelling “you think putting her head on the block has any outcome other than this entire church being reduced to a hole in the ground? Think you idiot!”

You head to your classes, wondering what *head on the block* means.
---
The next day there is an announcement that Master Kilsington has left, and that he will shortly be replaced.

The next few days are uneventful. Your friends are properly impressed, and a little horrified that you spoke to a demon, and their opinions are mixed on whether letting her go was the right decision. Chesi stands by you no matter what, and for the next day or so she doesn’t leave your side, and is constantly touching you, as if to reassure herself that you’re ok.

You ask Aunt Philly later if there will be any punishment for your actions, all she says is “it’s being discussed.”

You’re not sure what that means, but it sounds serious.

One evening, as you’re mucking out the stables as part of your punishment, under the not-so watchful eyes of the stable hands, Sera says to you quietly “There’s a party going on tonight, want to come?”

“Whose birthday is it?” you ask
>>
“No one’s silly” she giggles “just some of the cadets sneaking out after dark and having some fun.” You turn that idea over in your mind, that sounds like...

“Is it against the rules?” you ask

Sera looks around and whispers “yes, but” she quickly adds “it’s nothing bad, we’d just be out in the woods having a fire and talking, all we’d be doing is breaking curfew.”

“I don’t know...” You say. A party sounds fun, but if you break any more rules, you don’t want to be doing extra chores your whole time at school.

“C’mon” wheedles Sera “normally only the older cadets are invited, but I got them to make an exception just for you, ok?”

“Just me?” you ask, surprised “no Thomas, Chesi or anyone?”

“No” says Sera firmly “just the older cadets...and you.”

You think about that, it sounds fun, and you feel really grown up bring the only young cadet invited, but still, if you get caught....

A treacherous little thought worms its way through your mind: If you turn them in to the instructors, you might be forgiven some of your punishments.

What do you do?

I don't see a reason for a different heaven. We are paladin of Joy. We can make a heaven of Joy. Be it prodigious flirting, courtship, holding hands, kissing, necking, mating , or sex, or bouts of arm wrestling, quaffing, brawling, and general rowdy party the Succubi can service it.

I think its going to be more a heaven where the Succubi get a change to either be or serve as Angels and basically run haven as a massive service industry, devising games, scenarios, and making sure everyone is in a joyful mood, or at least brought to it as closely as possible, or be heaven residents and get pampered. If on has a necromancy fetish its going to be most likely satisfied joining the Angel Corps and handling entry and exits, resurrections and general undead affairs, while having a massive undead computer. Why? Because its her joy and no one said no to having a massive undead computer to ease her workload.

Everyone seems to miss this part. Its all voluntary.

Since Succubi are the closest we get to our first followers they are the best prospect for angel conversion. Most likely from the ranks of Priests and Paladins of our own who want it.

So they are the first to get the offer. Others will too eventually, but for now Succubi are a trained workforce market in the service department, when accounting for both wizard summonings, and coupled with a priesthood or a long stint as a paladin, so it makes sense to recruit from their ranks first if they want to, as a way to honor the first followers and converts, since they are the best we have access to aside form the other angels assigned to us.

The laws except demons that seek redemptiom and considers citizens of Oreia by default as such. Ends up being politely debriefed instead by angels, throwing a some potential plots of said demon lord spiraling into failure.

Kinda like a Russian defector being debriefed in the cold war.
