Welcome Back to Call of Maido Quest. The unholy union of CoC and Maid RPG. Why? Someone left the ritual circle unattended!

Your name is James Vanhorn. Jimmy to those who know you well enough to duck after they call you that. You run a local investigation agency, a hobby to pay the bills after returning from the Great War intact. Orphaned at a young age your only legacy is a strange metallic fragment you fashioned into a pendant. The same pendant that hangs from the neck of a strangely dressed and well armed woman sitting on your blood stained desk. Normally you’d be excited for such a great view, but every seam in her little dress is chocked full of knives. The fat hitman with the slit neck gasping for breath doesn't help the mood either, but at least he isn't shooting at you anymore.

Gameplay : Attributes give you that number of rolls to roll under a given skill number.

The woman idly kicks her heel, glaring at you with a cold fire and spinning a knife in her gloved fingers. You watch the pendant dance in the cheap lamplight. The blue outfit seems to have avoided the blood that painted your office and is now slowly oozing from the gasping man. You watch as subtle runes dance about the apron. She speaks in a low, almost mechanical tone. "Took you long enough Summoner. Now, what mess have you gotten into to leave me locked up for so many years. Its Panako by the way, judging by this place you don’t seem to have taught anything." She continues to idle on the desk.

>“ Excuse my french, but who the fuck are you toots?”
>“Its James and that’s my desk you’re messing up Ms.Panako.”
>“Good a maid, help me clean up this dumbass.”

"Good a maid, help me clean up this dumbass please". You point towards the nearly dead hitman, bleeding out slowly but knocking on death's door. Saving him at this point would only cause more trouble than its worth. In your mind the gears are already spinning, wait a few days before hitting up contacts, try and figure out which mafia sent him. Looks like one from the booze-runners but you never know. "AHEM" Her stern voice throws a monkey wrench into the machine. You turn to stare into those cold blue eyes. There's a depth there, one far beyond your own. You saw it in the trenches.

"Right to work then. So that's how it's going to be. I understand. Right away Summoner." She nods, taking the knife in her hand and pointing it at the dying man. There is a surge of static in the air, the knife begins to glow an ethereal green before lancing forward. The hitman doesn't react to the impact but begins to glow the same green before dissolving into thin air, leaving behind a smattering of blood. "I'll see to the washing. I assume your...facilities has something to cleanse with?" You point her towards the bathroom adjacent to your attached bedroom. A bucket with a rag sits unused in the corner. Panako sighs and walks over to the bathroom.

Your office is made up of three rooms. A bedroom with a large bed and a spare cot. A bathroom with a shower tub and the front office with your upturned desk, fan, lamp, some pictures and other junk, the ficus and telephone. You had a couch you pawned last week. The front door has your name and business printed on the glass. The rest of your possessions is the Luger and 500$ in cash in the secret safe under the bed. This is irrelevant now as you just witnessed a woman, summoned from a childhood trinket vaporize a dying man. Your mind bends a little from the stress as some numbers flash. (-3 sanity).

You follow the young woman into the bathroom and help with the heavy metal bucket. Panako looks at you surprised for a moment, but relents at your insistence. For a few moments there is silence as you scrub away the blood. It's not an unusual task for you, just that this time it isn't your own blood for once. You make to speak but Panako talks first.

"What year is it?" She asks, still using that robotic tone.

Rubbing a brush against a stubborn spot on the rug."Its..its 1923 Miss. Where the hell did you come from?"

"If you don't know the answer to that question then there is far too much you do not know and much more to do to prepare you for such knowledge. I will keep it simple. I am...a soul, bound to that shard that has served those of your bloodline for generations...and generations to come. The blood you spilled unlocked the binding placed on me by one long ago until the bloodline...recovered."

You've stopped scrubbing. Bloodlines? Magic? You've heard of some hoodoo voodoo before but this is something out of some pulp fiction rag. Yet here she stands. Panako continues in that flat voice that crawls up your spine. "You are a summoner, or at least have the potential to be one. There are many more like me...souls such as I are sought after by many. It is only going to get worse from here." She sighs and pauses washing for a moment.

"You still didn't answer my question. Where did you come from?" This spooky crap always made your head hurt.

"I...I don't wish to discuss it. Let say that I am marooned here. And possibly will be for some time. Suffice to say it is not important. What is to be done next?" Amazingly the blood is gone. You didn't see her wipe up the rest. Man, this hoodoo shit is spooky.

>24<15- Low Failure

You take a look around your dingy office/apartment. The bed hasn't had a sheet in who knows how long and you only have a few extra sets of clothes. You don't think your maid? Companion? Client, lets go with client for now, can waltz around the city in the get up she's wearing. Frills are kind of an indoor wear.
"We really need to work on this place. I don't think its really a place for a lady. Lets go out and get some things, Panako." You say, patting her on the head.

She does't move for a moment before coldly looking about. "Yes, these facilities are primitive, even for this time. I also require some items. Please take me to the nearest place that sells electrical devices and tools." Tools? Electrical appliances? They always said dames weren't cheap, but you figure it best not to argue with the woman who can vaporize a man. You grab a spare trench coat from your musty closet and drape it over Panako. Thinking twice you give her a hat as well. You laugh for a moment before that icy glare shuts your trap. She doesn't say anything though. You go and grab your stash of money and head out into late afternoon.

Several hours later you come back from the stores. Must be a slow week. All the prices were up and no one would even listen to a bit of haggling. At least you are able to score a bottle of rot-gut whiskey at the store "for being such a loyal customer". The clothing cost you a little bit, a couple dresses, some shoes and undergarments (-80$). Panako bought herself a number of electrical goods and a set of tools. She wouldn't answer why, though the shop owner was more than happy to provide the equipment (-350$). The whole affair left you with just enough cash to cover this month's rent. (Funds: 40$). Panako begins to take everything she bought apart, littering the bedroom. You sit back, take a hit of the good stuff and think about your plan forward.

Don't worry about it, most quests like this one have slow starts. Eventually, you'll have your regulars, so don't lose hope.

Thinking better of waiting around for someone to send another hitman, you get out the phone book and call up your informant. You helped him get out of a scrape with Johnny-law a few weeks back. Indecent exposure's quite the charge, but not a hard rap to beat. The phone rings a few time before Steve answers.

"Jimmy! What bullshit are you pulling me into this week." Steve was never one for the pleasantries.

"Stoolie Steve, you rat. I didn't even say hello. You knew I was going to call. You going to let me in, or am I going to have to come over and beat it out of you again." You make it a point to growl a little, just part of the game.

"C'mon, c'mon, we don't need to get like that. Yeah I knew you would call, otherwise I'd be getting some flowers for your funeral. I owe you one, so here's what I know. Someone put a hit out on you, none of the usual channels. Paid old Fat Frank a hefty sum to go put a few rounds in you. Don't know why but the person asking around was wearing this shitty paper mask. Tracked him down to an old church on 5th and Washington. The run down one. Good place for squatters." You could hear the smile in Steve's voice.

"So I'm to believe that you just so happened overhear this hit being ordered, secretly follow a man in a paper mask through town to this old church and then went home to wait patiently by the phone to call me up. Sounds like you're the one full of shit."

"Okay, okay Jimmy yeah. I was out back of the bar taking a piss when I overheard the asshole talking to Frank in the alley. I followed the guy for a bit to see if I could mug him. He only gave Frank half up front. Lost him in the church and then knew you would be calling soon. Or else I needed to call up the Tins. Call it playing the odds."

"I call it being a louse. You're the worst Steve."

"I love you to Jimmy." And the line went dead. You glance over at Panako, catching her listening into your phone call, but also focused on her tinkering. Whatever she's working on makes no sense to you, but then again, nothing about her makes a lick of sense. At least you have an address to investigate now, and maybe someone to pay back for the Ficus.
