You are Lord William Bordain, Lord of Morderengrad and the Norther Valley. Some call you the Iron Lord, as your wealth flows from the arms and armor you sell, and your demeanor is as unflinching and cold as castle-forged steel. Other have taken to calling you “The Grey Giant”, in reference to your great size, less-than-warm demeanor, and your recent marriage to House Tollett of Grey Glen.

You are a Lord by right of Murder, having slain the Targaryen children in the Sack of King’s Landing. After years of solitary brooding, you decided to rejoin the greater world. You brought order to your lands, unveiled a traitor, and wedded the lady Alyssa Tollet, who now bears your child.

Which means that you have a legacy to forge for your future child. You will not leave your flesh and blood without care or resources, and so you have dived into the management of your lands and holdings, to procure a bright future for yourself and your children. But storm clouds darken the horizon. Tywin Lannister has asked that you seek to supplant Jon Arryn, your liege lord, as Hand of The King. Further, Oberyn Martell has crossed you, and this you will not let go unpunished.

Currently, you are at the home of Gregor Lynderly, his strange wife Nance, and their children. You are here to discuss a business venture that was proposed to you by Petyr Baelish, and, you recently learned, devised by Petyr and Lord Lynderly’s eldest Son. You've learned that Gregor's son possesses some form of mystical sight, that has revealed to you a piece of a mystery that has plagued you for years
>>
>>41083063

It appears that the mysterious bear and spear coins, paid to the Painted Dogs to foment rebellion and raids in your lands, were minted by none other than Petyr Baelish!

Does this mean that HE paid the Painted Dogs to hound you? Or did he merely mint the coins for another, who used them to undermine your authority? Is he working alone, or with some group.

You pace the guest chambers the Lynderlys have granted you and your Lady wife. They are rustic but comfortable. The chairs are stuffed thick with padding, the bed rests under a worn but fine comforter. The furnishings are carved from wood or antler. It feels somewhat like a room in a hunting lodge.

Your wife is currently chatting with Lady Nance downstairs, but you have secluded yourself to consider the implications of the revelations of Gregor's Second-Sighted Son.

>General Quest Information
If you've never read Song of Iron and Hate (or Knock-Off Game of Thrones Quest, as it was originally called), it's a relatively long-running but sporadic quest following an Alternate Universe Song of Ice and Fire in which you play William Bordain, summarized in the first post.

> How do I play?
Any time I need rolls, I'll tell you what dice to roll, and will take the best of the first 3 results. Other than that, just make suggestions for courses of action, and the ones that receive the most support will be followed.

>What have I missed?

This link https://archive.moe/tg/search/text/William%20Bordain/type/op/

Holds every quest in the series except the very first one, where we generated the specifics of the House. So if you want to catch up, read those.

In general, they can be summarized in three arcs: the pacification of our lands and betrothal(Knock-off Game of Thrones Quest), the planning and execution of our marriage (Song of Iron and Hate 1-7) and our entry into the world of ASoIaF's Intrigues. (IaH 8-15).

Now then, as summarized, you are visiting the Lynderlys to discuss a deal that will involved using their ships as a relay point to move your Iron and weapons to Gulltown faster.

You've just discovered that Littlefinger, the proposer and nominal architect of this plan is somehow connected with earlier intrigues against you.

What do you wish to do?
>Call up wife to discuss new revelations.
>Wait until she's finished, then discuss.
>Spurn the plan immediately to prevent being tricked
>Accept the plan, knowing you'll have more opportunities to learn about Littlefinger as his partner.
>Other.

Any info dumps people need can also be provided.

Also, I wonder if we can make it a habit to never refer to Baelish as Littlefinger and not have it be too metagamey?
>>
>>41083497

We can have Lord Bordain just refer to Baelish as Lord Baelish and not Littlefinger.

Count it as him being respectful to a fellow lord of the Vale.

*CORRECTION TO AN EARLIER POST: The Painted Dogs were not paid with the coins. They were paid with gems. The coins were paid to a manager of your smelter.

Resolving to slight Li-Lord Baelish in return for this slight, you call to one of the few servant you've seen around the castle, a sleepy older man with light ginger hair you were told is called "Tucker".

He approaches "yes, milord?"

"Go to my wife, and tell her that if she could meet me in our chambers at her...earliest convenience, I would be pleased."

"Earliest convenience. Yes, milord."

And away he goes.

When she arrives, it's clear she's worried about what has moved you to such an agitated state so quickly.

"Alyssa, information has come to me that I need your help to process."

She sits on the red comforter of the bed, and listens.

"As you know, the Painted Dogs were paid to oppose me, with gems the Targaryen knight had stolen from the Bellmores. However, another mystery from those days of rebellion has slunk in the shadows of my mind: one of my officers, a shift manager at the Iron Smelters, was paid a thousand gold dragons to tell the Dogs of the Shipment schedules"

Your wife coughs in surprise. "A thousand dragons, William? That's a dear price for such low reward."

"What troubled me more was the insignia upon them: A raised spear on one face, and a snarling bear on the reverse. No one in the Seven Kingdoms, or across the Sea, mints such coins."

Her brow furrows "It sounds almost like some kind of Wildling insignia."

You nod "So I thought. But, the truth has just been revealed to me. Lord Gregor's eldest, he bears the mark of the Stranger. He knows things. Things that cannot be known. He already knows the sex of our first child. He knows how many people are in Braavos at this minute. He knows the coins were minted by Petyr Baelish."

Your wife looks shocked at this, and asks the logical question, her hands flying to her stomach "Our first child?"

(continuing)

"A Boy, he says."

She looks down, caught for a moment in the knowledge that it is a boy that grows in her. Then she raises her head. "So, Baelish made the coins that were spent to betray you. Did he spend them himself?"

"I had taxed the boy's abilities for the moment. I didn't ask. "

"Well, then we have to ask ourselves this: how clever is Littlefinger? Lady Nance tells me that he is Jon's closest and dearest friend. No doubt he knows of the boy's ability. If so, why send us to the one person who could reveal his role in the earlier plot? Unless he's unaware he HAS a role in the earlier plot. He may have minted the coins for some illegal scheme, and unknown to him, they were spent to harass you. OR, he did spend the coins such, and sent us here to learn that he made them, in order to make us THINK he wouldn't be so foolish to send us here..."

Your wife falls silent, considering the swiftly expanding web of potential deceits. Your head is already beginning to ache. You have no savor in these schemes. Is it a mistake, a double-bluff, or an accident? You feel your face tighten in a sneer.

Things were easier when all you had to do was kill people to make the world better.

Your wife returns from her reverie. "I think the best course is to act as if we are unaware, and agree. This lets us weigh him more closely. But let us remember Jon Arryn's words: If he's making us a pretty penny, he's certain to be making himself a shining stag. "

She sighs.

"Sometimes I wish this stupid game for power and control could be abstained."

You hold her for a moment, each accepting the other's frustration, and finding comfort.

She straightens. "Well, you should get some rest, if you're still to spar Stefon tomorrow."

Releasing your wife, you let out a huge sigh, like an oxen after hauling a heavy load for hours.

" You're right. I'll to bed in a moment. Let me just...burn off some energy. it feels good to walk again after several days asaddle."

Your wife smiles, and proceeds to undress for bed as you pace around the room for a few more minutes, before sitting down at the foot of the bed, and beginning to remove your boots and other articles of clothing. Your wife rests her head on your shoulder as you do so, kneeling behind you on the bed, her arms encircling your chest and stomach.

"We'll solve this, dear." She says comfortingly, kissing your cheek.

"I know." you allow. "I just...ugh. I was a squire. Son of a Landed Knight. now I dine with Great Houses, and consult boy-prophets to undermine my political enemies. When did the world go mad?"

"It was always mad. We were just too young to see it."

With that, you and your wife slip beneath the comforters, and you fall into slumber.

When you wake, you head downstairs with your wife to find the dining hall populated only by the children. Jon is rubbing sleep from his eyes and yawning, as he puts the forks, spoons, and knives beside every plate. Stefon places the plates and cups, and young Nat seems to have found his role in this set-up as "burden". He clings to his brother's backs, and asks them questions about you and your wife, what they know about you two. Nat says your wife looks nice, and you look like you could pick up their father and hold him over your head, and - his ongoing stream of speech is cut off by his brother's elbow as you enter the hall.

Nat turns his huffing fold into a bow, and Stefon bows at the waist, clearly brimming with excitement. Their eldest brother notes your presence, but finishes the last setting before turning and giving a full bow.

As you and your wife are seated, Lord Gregor and Lady Nance emerge from the kitchen.

Breakfast is a relatively small affair, but what they lack in quantity, they make up in uniqueness.

The berry and melon salad is fairly standard, of course. Muskmelon, raspberry, sweet grapes and rock melon are all tossed in a syrup of lime and honey. It's notable for holding such a variety so far north, and delicious, if a touch over-sweet.

The next course is hotcakes and fried ham steak. Standard fare, thick, hot, and filling.

The two standout dishes, for you, are what the family dubs "Eggbowls". The outside is a crisp shell of thinly sliced meat, rendered into a bowl formation, and cooked until hard around a center of cream, egg, cheese, and spice. It sits on its own like a tiny muffin of meat and protein, until cut open, when the soft yolk pours out.

The last dish is called "puzzle bread", and consists of a marvelous concoction. it's like someone tore a loaf of bread to shreds, coated the shreds in sugar and spice, and then tried to piece the loaf back together. The entire ensemble is then doused in a caramel syrup before baking, creating something not unlike the inside of a sweet-roll, but fragmented into a thousand parts.

You now understand Jon's weight and his brothers' constant. The boys must eat like Manderlys, and burn through it like lightning.

once the meal is cleared away, it's time to spar. Stefon uses a two-weapon style, highly aggressive and moderately underhanded. What weapons will you oppose him with, and what style shall you adopt?

WEAPONS
>Pick, your chosen weapon. Less common than other choices, so not a huge help to teach him, unless the lesson is FOR unusual opponents
>Axe, similar enough that you still excel, more common. Teach about arcs and areas of control.
>Hammer, This choice would be to teach him about power versus skill. Not your best.
>Sword, most common. Teach about proper form, technique. Equal to hammer.
>Spear. Also common. Lesson: Reach. Equal to hammer.

(cont)
>>
>>41085109

STYLE
>Aggressive: Shows that you share a lust for combat and action. Bonding, but higher risk of injury or embarrassment.
>Defensive: Allows you to control battle, and teach him. Not as emotionally connecting, but very low chance of injury or embarrassment.
>Mixed. A mid point between the two.
>Other.

>You got: 19. The Child got: 12.

That's 2 degrees of success!

As you spar with the boy, you explain to him the ideas of using your natural reach, and your weapons, along with moment, to create areas of control. To retain mastery over your immediate surroundings. You let him try some assaults, and show how you can control his movement and actions by moving to his weak side, or by threatening powerful swings. You also show how overlapping areas of control are contested, at one time snapping the blade from his hand in a downward cut to show that in power, you have control, but also showing him how to use a blade beneath an axe's beard to draw the opponent into another attack.

Overall, you rejoice to feel motion in your limbs again, to work a sweat in the yard. You're just really getting into it when the boy yields, his young body having not yet built up the endurance to match a seasoned veteran like you.

You recommend some exercises for him in order to build endurance, reminding him that exhaustion kills more fighters than blades or bows.

YOU'VE INCREASED YOUR SOCIAL LINK WITH THE LYNDERLYS. TAROT UNLOCKED: THE CHARIOT.

Kidding, of course.

But you have won some major brownie points with Stefon, and the rest of the family is clearly pleased as well.

"Lord William" the Lord Gregor calls out, as you put away your training axe and sparring gear, "I have something for you, when you are ready."

Once re-dressed and refreshed with a quick drink of water, you approach the Lord, who gestures that he would walk with you as you spoke.

"My Lord, I must apologize, for I forgot in our meeting last night to warn you. I had heard of your generous gift to the Bellmores, and thought to return such a good turn with another. "

"For, I have heard that despite the size of your castle, and having the kennels to keep them, your lord has no hounds. No dogs. And that saddens me. My family has ever been fond owners of a wide variety of canines. As such, I would like to gift one to you."

He leads you to his kennels, where you can see...By the Seven, the man does not lie. If he has less than thirty dogs, you would be surprised. You see at least 6 different breeds among them, in a variety of sizes and colors.

Lord Gregor continues. "Normally, they'd have a wider run of the keep and its halls, but we did not know your wife's attitude toward them, nor in fact your own. If it be not a burden on you, I would have you take one you like."

>Deny his gift.

"I, of course, accept, Lord Gregor, but you must guide me in this, I am unlearned in the ways of dog breeds. Tell me of them, and which would be wisest for a home soon to have a young child."

"Of course, Lord William. Let me begin with this fellow." The brown hound huffed at his hands and knees as he continued "A Lymehound, or "Bloodhound" among the more ghastly. Very calm dogs. Even-tempered. Their size can be a slight concern, but unless the child gouges their eye or some such, unlikely to bite. Renowned scent hounds, they're useful for tracking deer and boar. Some even use them to track criminals or fleeing serfs. Implacable once they have the scent."

Moving on to a great grey giant of a dog, Gregor continued "This is a boarhound. Used, as one may guess, in boar hunts. And in bear hunts. However, to humans, like a overeager child." The dog had placed its giant forepaws on the Lord's shoulders, and was sniffing his face. "Very affectionate as you see- Down, Titan! A little wary of strangers in some cases, but I assure you, all our hounds are well-trained."

A small dog was springing above his knees, pleading for attention, a vapidly happy look in its eyes. "This is a Rathound. Specifically, a Russ Terrier. As you see, energetic. It's used to hunt badgers, foxes, and other burrowers. A devilish clever dog, completely without fear. This dog will run a horse to exhaustion. They can be snappish, and moody if not allowed to sprint their hearts out. Better to keep it in the kennels until your child is a year or two grown. But these dogs will throw themselves in a bear's face for your child if trained to love it."

The next dog looked like spare dark leather on four massive paws. "A Pentoshi Mastiff. Maybe more your particular style. Huge, and protective. Not known for barking. Highly clever. Train it, and it'll love you and yours. But it is a guard dog, if it doesn't recognize you, it'll bite."
(cont)
>>
>>41086404

"I've had one take sick from a boar's tusk wound it never shied from. They feel little pain, fear little threat, and are big enough to cause trouble should anyone start it."

The next dog looks like something the last one eats. Its body was low to the ground, and long. It looked like a ferret, or "A Weaselhound. Like the Russ Terrier, a hunter of the earth. These things will fight Badgers in their warrens and drag them out for you. Stubborn as Iron, these ones. This one, Huffer, I know he knows the commands I give him. He just chooses not to listen. They can be a touch aggressive, but even more than the Russ, people like you or I have little to fear. Show it the baby, let it know you care, and it will learn to like it."

The last dog was as tall as the boarhound, but thin and shaggy as a Painted Dog. "A Wolfhound. The name gives it away. Smart as a whip, this one. You send it out, and two hours later it chases the wolf back to you. Gentle with children. They're...hard to sum up. More like people in that way. Some are right cunts, others practically saints. In general though, as the saying goes "gentle when stroked, fierce when provoked". More snobbish than the other breeds."

He looks around. "I have some other breeds, but these are the best for a home with children, and I have more appropriate ages in these breeds. Some of the others are too old to ever love you, or too young to be easily handled along with a child."

We're one of the most terrifying men in the Vale right? As far as physical presence goes.
I suggest we pick one of the dogs who doesn't look afraid when we approach, we need a dog with balls as big as our own.
>>
>>41086636
Boarhound/consult the wife.
>>
>>41086795
We're rather large yes. Everyone is also afraid of us because we were trained by the Lannisters and are a mostly merciless killer on the field. So until we actually grow horns or drink cups of other mens blood in front of guests there's not a whole lot more we can do to be both sane and terrifying.
>>
>>41086636
I vote for Huffer!

Counting every Slash vote and Or as one for each side, the results are
4 for consult with wife.
4 for Mastiff
4 for Wolfhound
3 for Boarhound
And one apiece for bloodhound and weaselhound.

So let's ask the wife. And let me roll to see what she feels...

"Hmm. I like the wolfhound and the Pentoshi...But I should speak with my lady wife before bringing a hound into the home."

Lord Gregor smiles "Ah, you're wiser than I had heard, Lord William. Though, depending on how you keep them, they may not bother her overmuch. Still, wiser to check before ruffling feathers."

You exit the kennel, and find your wife with lady Nance in the bailey of the castle. Apparently, some ancestor of the Lynderlys planted some fruit trees on the grounds. Your wife is picking pears, and Lady Nance tends to a cherry tree.

"Yes, William?"

"Lord Gregor has offered us a hound to begin filling our kennels. Have you any preference among dogs? Or distaste for them?"

She blinks for a moment. "Truth be told, I'm rather indifferent to them. My father had quite a few hounds, but they never liked me the way they did him." She shrugs. "I'd like to see them first."

You nod, and lead her to the kennel. As she walks from dog to dog, Lord Gregor explaining mostly the same things to her that he did to you, she seems immediately taken by the weaselhound.

"Oh, look at it, William, it's so small! It's like a puppy that never grows older!" She kneels to pet it, which the dog accepts with an almost regal aplomp, as if allowing itself to be stroked were a great concession.

She also compliments the Wolfhound on its fine coat, noting that this is exactly the kind of hound her father uses, and he's always been fond of them.

Make that two for the Weselhound, plus the wife.
>>
>>41087157

Lord Gregor steps forward to you, and speaks softly, conspiratorially.
"I know my Lord favored the Wolfhound and the Mastiff. How about this: I give you the Wolfhound as a belated wedding present, your wife the weaselhound (okay, I'm done writing that. It's a dachshund now) as the same, and I give you the Mastiff as a sign of my joy that we've entered a new trading deal. My lord gets what he wants, your lady gets what she wants, My lady gets what she wants, for she's always telling me we have too many hounds, and everyone walks away looking noble and magnanimous."

YOU ROLL AWARENESS...13!

It seems like he means exactly what he says. He clearly takes joy at your wife's happiness, and is clearly a lover of hounds. No doubt he's trying to build goodwill after having confessed to you last thread that he's not particularly intelligent, to prevent you from taking advantage of him in the coming deal.

YOU ACCEPT HIS KIND OFFER.

Now, that about wraps up your business with the Lynderlys as I require. Is there anything you wish to do?

Some talked about offering to squire his son Stefon.

You could see his harbors, to get a better idea of his part in the deal.

You could also just agree to the deal, and move to the next choice.
>>
>>41087289
Can we visit his harbor just to see them?

Sounds like something we would do.

Accept the deal of course.
>>
>>41087289
Squire the son and move along
>>
>>41087289
I'm down with taking Stefon as a squire. Great way to build rapport amongst our houses.
>>
>>41087289
Squire and move along.
>>
>>41087289
>Is there anything you wish to do?

Ask about seeing to his harbors and let him talk over the idea with his wife and son. See if it sounds good to them all.

Also suggest us taking on Stefon as a squire.
>>
>>41087289
Make the offer to squire Stefon but don't pressure him then agree to the deal.
>>
>>41087342
Small note: His son is the actual originator of the plan. He was the one who convinced Gregor it was a good idea.

Give me a minute, gotta lock up my building.

Okay, Harbor 2, squire and leave 2, Squire 5, and plenty for accept the deal.

I'm going to rule we accept and offer to squire, but don't go to the harbor. (Yet, we could conceivably go there in our NEXT choices.)

"You seem an honorable and straightforward man, Lord Gregor. I'm happy to take the hounds. And happier still to agree to this plan your son and Lord Baelish have cooked up. Let's hope it benefits us both as much as they think it will."

You extend your hand, and Gregor clasps it.

"Let us hope so, Lord William. If it does not, it will be the first time my son has been so wrong in such matters."

"Speaking of sons, your second-born, Stefon. He has a martial bent to him that impresses me. I'd like to offer to squire him. My lands are safe enough, and my captains all military men. I'm certain he'd love the surroundings. We'd make him into a disciplined young man.

STATUS CHECK: SUCCESS.
PERSUASION CHECK: SUCCESS

"You're too kind, Lord William." Lord Gregor responds. "I'm sure the boy would love it. I'll check with my wife to ensure I don't spend a week out here in the kennels, but I know the boy will leap at the chance."

And so, roughly an hour later, you are prepared to leave with your wife, your new hounds, and your new squire.

NOW, you face a choice, Lord William.
You can
>Return home by horseback, as you came. This will take a few days, allowing you and Stefon to get to know each other in a relatively peaceful setting, but there is some risk of bandits or Hill Tribe attacks,
>Return home by boat. A swifter, but safer method. You would arrive at home knowing the boy less well, but with less chance of him passing on the way,
>Go somewhere else. Lord Arryn did ask you to meet more of the Lords of the Vale. You could conceivably visit the Corbrays, the Coldwaters, or Hunters without going too far afield, or you could visit Gulltown, Breakwater, etc.

Okay, so we have two votes for "Home by horseback" and three for "Go somewhere else", but without agreement on where to go.

So let's go somewhere else, and NOW take a vote for where.

>Heart's Home, seat of The Corbrays, ruled by Lyonel Corbray who resents his younger brother for getting their father's Valyrian Steel sword.
>Longbow Hall, Home of the Hunters, ruled by Eon Hunter, older than Jon Arryn, with three fractious sons.
>Coldwater Burn, Home of the Coldwaters, ruled by Royce Coldwater, named for his Liege, the Royces, the second most powerful lords of the Vale

Alrlght, votes are in, and the people want to see RUNESTONE.

You approach your wife.
"Alyssa?"
"Yes, William?"
"How fit are you to travel?"
"I'm Pregnant, William, not made of glass."
"Very well. I was thinking of what Lord Arryn said, and I'd like to meet some more Lords of the Vale before we return home."
"That's perfectly fine with me. Soon I'll be too fat to make these kinds of trips for a while. Where did you want to go?"
"Runestone."

NEXT TIME, ON SONG OF IRON AND HATE: YOU MEET YOHN ROYCE. YOUR DOGS PROBABLY PEE ON SOMETHING IMPORTANT. YOUR SQUIRE IS OUT OF HIS DEPTH!

I'm gonna call the session a little early today, guys, in order to talk about advancement. Normally I'd run for 6-7 hours, but I keep forgetting to bring this up, so I wanted to make sure we handled it.

If you're unaware, we use a modified version of the Game of thrones edition of A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying game.

So, here's your character stats.

QUALITIES
Benefits: Hardened, Sinister, Head of House, Berserker

Intrigue Defense: 9
Composure: 6
Combat Defense:12 (9 armored, 13 w/ shield)
Health: 9

You have roughly...80 XP to spend.

Raising or creating a Specialty costs 10. Raising an Ability costs 30.
Giving yourself a Quality (well, technically, buying yourself a destiny point, and SPENDING it on a Quality) costs 50.

In the last thread before we went dark, people were discussing a boost to status and fighting. Or potentially a boost to endurance and something.

Just, go nuts. If someone has a link for the rulebook so people can look over qualities, that'd be awesome.
>>
>>41088518
I think boosting status would be neat
>>
>>41088518

Write faster.

And archive please.

Let's up Charm, Logic and Axes as specialties.

>>41088563

Why?
>>
>>41088518
Fighting 6 (30)
Status 5 (30)
Stewardship 3B (10)
Convince 1B (10)

Total = 80
>>
>>41088572
Being more important is always nice
>>
>>41088598

Why are we upping Stewardship?

We're not a steward anymore.
>>
>>41088518
I want to become a combat god basically

50 dragons says at least a year before next thread
>>
>>41088598
>>41088518
I like this, I still have flashbacks to that nobody knight who tried to kill us and nearly succeeded.
>>
>>41088606

Status is fixed based on what his role is.

Currently being a small lord in the Vale doesn't give him much status at all.
>>
>>41088610
Stewardship is a specialty under the skill Status. It basically helps us improve our land, rally conscripts and hire mercenaries, and aids us in rolls dealing with trouble in our lands. It is a pretty useful thing to have when managing lands as a Lord.
>>
>>41088635
It is also affected by influence, renown and rubbing shoulders with important people.
>>
>>41088645

We already have a steward.

And I stupidly said steward instead of squire. My mistake.
>>
>>41088676
We do sure, but ultimately some decisions will be put to us and an advantage is always useful. It also makes sense that a Lord know how to govern his holdings. I'm not saying we have to spend the points there, I just thought it was a good idea. If you have any other ideas throw them out.

How about Reputation instead if we're against Stewardship?
>>
>>41088572
Archive is up.

And I'll try. This one was irritating. I think I've gotten more long-winded in my writing. I kept hitting "too longs".

I also blame being unprepared due to my schedule going wonky this afternoon.

>>41088610
That's..not what that means. Stewardship is the stat you roll when personally managing your household, and governing to determine the House Fortunes. It's basically the "Ruling Your Lands" skill. Yes, you can let your stewards roll for you, but they can't use Destiny to re-roll shitty ones, don't take the best of the first three rolls, and have lower stats than you.

>>41088615
My plan at the moment is next week, or this weekend. I wanna run more threads this summer to make up for my appallingly low 3 threads last August.

>>41088635

This guy >>41088668 is pretty right. We may only be a minor lord of the Vale, but we're also Lord Tywin's ex-squire, we're becoming friendly with Jon Arryn, entering into deals with Littlefinger. It's becoming clear to people who listen about us that we're the new hot shit.

Is how I would play it if we chose to boost status.
>>
>>41088694
>How about Reputation instead if we're against Stewardship?

Sure.

I don't know why he doesn't have that already, actually.

>>41088725

Yeah, I did realize my mistake later on.
>>
>>41088598
Sounds pretty good.
>>
>>41088518
The Axes bonus does not apply to pickaxes right?
If that is so I kinda want to improve our skills with that, but I'm not certain it's really worth spending points on currently.

If we're going to deal with Littlefinger and other tricky lords in the future it might be a good idea to invest more in awareness, cunning and persuasion.
>>
>>41088762
>The Axes bonus does not apply to pickaxes right?

It does. Bordain uses a crowbill.
>>
>>41088725
WHoops, my trip fell off

>>41088762
Pickaxes do fall under Axes. Crowbill is technically the weapon you wield.
>>
>>41088738
Actually, scratch that, we really don't need better combat right now. I would change that to increasing Cunning by to 4, and change the Convince to either Charm or Logic.
Status 5
Cunning 4
Stewardship 3B
Charm/Logic 2B
>>
>>41088904
Combat is sort of a tricky thing though. No one needs it outside of battle but if shit gets hairy... well, having an extra point in fighting could turn the tide.
>>
>>41088927

William is already great at fighting.
>>
>>41088947
But he's not the -greatest- at fighting.
>>
>>41088598
SO I see three votes for this one. Assuming I don't see any huge upwelling against it, we'll go with that.

Boom.

As ever, I'll be by my computer for the next few hours, so any questions, comments, or idle chit-chat will eventually come to my attention.

Also, I hate all of you. We could have gone HOME, I could have played Medieval Township Simulator, but no. Let's go make allies and trade deals. You make me sick, actually desiring adventure.

I totally need to start fleshing out some more homebrew stuff for this game, too.

I'm thinking of a chain of improvements that let you use army units to improve Law, representing your troops serving as de-facto guards and police.
Something like

Milita Outposts
Cost: 5 Defense, 3 Power
Benefit: Whenever you gain Law from House Fortunes, add 1 for every unit of Trained or higher Garrison you control.

Logically, another would be

Stableyard
Cost: 5 Law, 10 Power
Benefit: When you gain Law from House Fortunes, add 1 for every unit of Trained or better Cavalry you control.

I'm also thinking of just having them add their bonuses statically.

There's just so much for boosting Wealth, and almost nothing for the other stats.

>>41088947
>>41088927
>>41088904
As a small note, you're still one under the fighting needed to open the highest tier of Axe-Fighter Benefits.

You could also raise Warfare, representing your better tactical/strategic awareness after things like your bandit attack.

Or Survival, given the hunting you do with your two dads.
>>
>>41088988
Do you have the book "Out of Strife-Prosperity"? It's got a ton of nifty holding upgrades.
>>
>>41089131
Huh. I suppose I do. Past me failed to let me know. I'll study it for a bit.
>>
could you give us our army stats?
>>
>>41088988
>As ever, I'll be by my computer for the next few hours

No you're not.
>>
>>41089252
Sure thing!

Sorry on the delay, I was making dinner.

1 unit Elite Personal Guard (The Bloodsmiths)
1 unit Elite Guerillas
1 unit Elite Special (Painted Dogs)
1 unit Elite Cavalry
2 units Elite Infantry
1 unit Elite Archers
1 unit Veteran infantry
1 unit Veteran Garrison
2 units Green Infantry
1 unit Trained Support

Those are your base numbers. I need to still work out which ones you've had upgraded, which have Castle-forged steel, and which units specifically are your new Harriers.
>>
>>41089795
>Sorry on the delay, I was making dinner.

Then ignore me here >>41089792
>>
>>41089795
To be more specific I know that the Guerillas and Personal Guard are both Upgraded, and bearing Castle-Forged Steel. I'm pretty sure the green infantry are now trained Harriers.

>>41089805
No problem.

I came back, and was like "Oh, someone posted!. 47 minutes ago. Shit." It must have been just before I walked over to start cooking.
>>
>>41089795
>>41089824

Would having Stefon spar with our Green Infantry be okay? Not all at once, but like one soldier at a time.

Let them both get experience and have it be a teaching moment for the two.
>>
>>41089824
>>41089795

Alright, having rechecked the totals, here's what you ACTUALLY have:

1 UPGRADED Unit of Elite PERSONAL GUARD armed with CASTLE-FORGED STEEL
1 UPGRADED Unit of Elite GUERILLAS armed with CASTLE-FORGED STEEL
Same
Same
Same
Same
Same
Same
2 UPGRADED units of Trained HARRIERS, Armed with CASTLE-FORGED STEEL
Same.

>>41089853
As your squire, you can have Stefon spar with whoever you like. Troops, Captains, Chieftains, you.

You can further have him run practice drills and training with any of the units.

Hell, you could play wargames with him, using your marshalled troops on either side.

He might bitch and moan about some of it, being as he is a young boy, and some of your unit's training protocols are brutal, but you can command it.

Train him to be a warrior, a quartermaster, do what you like. As long as you feed him, shelter him, teach him, and don't abuse him, you're fine.
>>
>>41089920
>Train him to be a warrior, a quartermaster, do what you like. As long as you feed him, shelter him, teach him, and don't abuse him, you're fine.

I say teach him to be a good field general/leader on the battlefield.
>>
>>41089964
IF ONLY YOU HAD RAISED WARFARE INSTEAD! HAHAAHAHAHHAHA!

Maniacal laughter aside, you've got plenty of time to raise it, and teach the kid. Normally you don't leave Squire service until your late teens-early twenties. This kid will be your squire for at least 4-5 years, meaning he'll be beside you when you seek to profit from the totally-not-guaranteed-to-happen Greyjoy Rebellion.

I'm actually stoked to handle some of that stuff, eventually. I kind of want to do one of those "Character swaps", and have you take over Rodrik Greyjoy for his assault on Seagard. Because changing that point might really fuck with the timeline.

Hell, there's so many cool/little plot things that could change the events of the universe tied up in that era. Something as simple as a different winner in the Tournament at Lannisport could change everything. And hey, it's not like your actions a few threads back saved the abilities of a skilled jouster!
>>
>>41090107

Let's fuck with the timeline some.

Provides unpredictability.

But then again, if we swap to Rodrik Greyjoy, we can have bits where other soldiers and ironborn mutter fearful things about the Iron Eagle or the Flying Kraken whatever they'll call William Bordain after he helps crush the Rebellion.
>>
>>41090107

I'm >>41090127

I forgot to mention how I love it when we see/hear the legends & cool, mythical names that people give the protagonist in anything.

Like in Season 5 of The Wire when those two guys who try holding up Marlo were talking about Omar. Or just whenever people talk about Omar.
>>
>>41090148
Iron Eagle
The Grey Giant
The Mad Miner

It's interesting, if WIlliam were living on the other coast, he might be pretty respected among the Ironborn.

-Won his Lordship by slaying Royalty.
-Fought the Chiefs who opposed him to settle his lands.
-bested his wife in a test of skill as a turning point in their romance.

If he ever drowned himself, The Drowned God might give him superpowers for spreading the faith.
>>
>>41090127
>>41090107
>>41090148
I just want Bordain to bear an irrational grudge against the Greyjoys because they already called the name "Ironborn".

"They don't even mine iron!" you'd hear him say.
>>
>>41090244
Wait nevermind, just looked up House Goodbrother. But seriously, those seem like the only ones who aren't a bunch of pirates with delusions of religion.
>>
>>41090244
>"They don't even mine iron!" you'd hear him say.

He'd be like Westerosi George Costanza or Jerry Seinfeld if you get him on an Ironborn rant.

>>41090234
>The Mad Miner

I love that one.

And maybe some, or a lot, of Ironborn turn away from the Greyjoys at some point in the war and join with William out of sheer respect.

That might be funny.
>>
>>41090274
>And maybe some, or a lot, of Ironborn turn away from the Greyjoys at some point in the war and join with William out of sheer respect.
Eh, I don't really see Bordain as being that good at making friends out of former enemies when the conflict comes to the point of open warfare. Too focused on winning.
>>
>>41090274
OR MAYBE THE IRONBORN TRY AND SWAY HIM TO JOIN THEIR SIDE!

DUN DUN DUN!!!

Think about it, mainlander, We assault from the Sea, you from the land. We pinch the Riverlands between us, and watch the Kingdoms squirm. The North can't come down if you hold the Twins, we'll burn out the Navy of the Westerlands, and you can crush them too. You get Two Kingdoms, we get our one, and the Usurper settles for his 4.
>>
>>41090334
>>41090299
He'd ignore them and they'd just keep trying to get Iron Lord senpai to notice them
>>
Alright, guys, I'm gonna wander off for the night. I'll leave the thread open on my computer, so if you guys post anything, I'll see it in the morning, and respond either on the Twitter or early in the next thread.

Good night everyone. For the Night is dark and full of terrors.
>>
>>41090343
>>41090334
>He'd ignore them

Nah, he'd act interested to draw them in, then, HE'D FUCKING MURDER THEM. FOR HE IS THE LORD OF MURDERGRAND!

We're a devious bastard that loves murder. What other choice could we make?

>>41089920
Before the hiatus, there was talk of hiring our LEGIONS OF DOOM out for mercenary work.

The other Lords of the Vale were getting pissy about our military buildup and we'd be looking a censure from the Boss if we increased our forces any more.

By having a number of them away at any given time, we'd avoid that.
>>
Oh snap this is back.

Uh, last thing I vaguely remember that might be an issue -- Bordain having not done enough for the Tribesmen people in his lands, though after that was brought up he'd worked to fix that.

But that did make a reminder to keep doing stuff for our Tribesmen. And after so much time had passed I dunno if this issue would be something the posters would have remembered.

So... how are things going with our Hillmen allies as of this thread?
>>
>>41093698
Actually, that's one of the things that your "Let's go visit people" thing has been interesting for: because dialogue and combat are the longest things to write, your arcs are a little weird in terms of time.

For instance, you've had threads that covered 4, 5 months in a stretch.

The last 3 threads have all taken place over 2 days. The one before that handled a matter of about a week and a half after the month started.

Basically, you got that complaint... about 2 months ago, and you immediately responded by buying them some ships, and inviting some of the chiefs to go on a trip with you to the Eyrie. Then you made Rogar the foreman of your Iron Mine.

Things are going better, and with more projects like your currently-being-built granaries, they'll wooed in no time.

Thanks for bringing it up!

>>41092903
That is a thing that was discussed. You even have a guy out in the Free Cities who could broker contracts for them.

That's another of the things that's taking a bit to get sorted out, since Doma is far enough away that it takes time for messages to get to him.

>>41094144
Hey Page can you post the map showing where we are again?

Which one? The one with the creepy fucker with the knife?
That's my favorite.

In this one, your holdings are where the creepy fucker with the knife is, and you're currently at Snakewood, down along the river.

I've just now noticed this map has a large arrow in the middle of it. That's weird.
>>
>>41094209
Yeah that one, thanks.

I wonder what it's pointing at...
>>
>>41094230
well, objectively...
I don't know.
That's...not an insignia of a House of the Vale from my sources...
It's next to Coldwater Burn...
Let me check the World of Ice and Fire.
That's now super weird.
>>
>>41094144
>You even have a guy out in the Free Cities who could broker contracts for them.

Awesome. Hell, I bet we could conquer some of the Free Cities if we built up our forces enough. Then we'd have a power base independent of Westeross and could build our Legions of Doom all we want!

That would absolutely FUCK cannon. Danny visits the Free Cities- The Unsullied are free and work for us now. Slavers Bay is renamed The Bay of Murder.

Also, not to forget feuds and petty wars between the Lords of the Seven are constant and ongoing. We could sell our services to other Westerosi Lords.

Or course, that would have political concerns. So we'd have to think carefully before joining any local conflicts.... Oh! The Freys. The Freys are total dicks. No one likes them and they're often involved in minor conflicts. We could fucking murder them all, seize a chunk of their holdings, and loot everything that isn't nailed down, and most people wouldn't give a shit.

We couldn't keep The Twins. That's waaaay to valuable a strategic location. Us taking it would scream 'Power Grab' to everyone. But if we surrendered it to whoever the Freys had pissed off that week, no one would look at us as the next Usurper.
>>
>>41094230
>>41094338
It doesn't look like it's part of the picture. Rather it's something someone photo-shopped in.

Probably someone added it in for their own game or something. The arrow shows where their land is maybe.
>>
>>41094490
>That would absolutely fuck canon.

Like I said, there's a town of pretty damn delicate moments coming up.

For instance, that reference I make upthread (>>41090107) to "a different winner in the Tournament at Lannisport"?

Jorah Mormont won that. And dubbed Lynesse Hightower his Queen of Love and Beauty. They got married that night, and it was HER desire for material goods and luxury that drove him to financial ruin, attempting to sell poachers as slaves, which got him exiled, which is how he ended up working for Dany at all.

Without Jorah, does Dany get poisoned by the wine merchant? Or is there no one to report on her to Varys at all? OR IS SHE SUPPORTED BY STEFON LYNDERLY, "DISGRACED" CAPTAIN OF THE IRON GUARD MERCENARY COMPANY?!

DUN DUN DUN
!

All it takes is literally one of 8 jousts to go differently.
>>
>>41094652
Or Mormont and Hightower could just get married anyway and Stefon also ends up with them.

I dunno. I don't like the idea of murdering other lords for their land, though. Or the potential name an anon suggested we change Slaver's Bay to.
>>
>>41094652
honesty I say we try to let Mormont win son we can offer him loans in return for services and a possible friendship with a northern lord could be useful.
>>
>>41094652
First time reading this adventure and I love it, thank you Page.

I like this alternate series of events, so I support it.
>>
>>41095134
>offer him loans in return for services and a possible friendship with a northern lord could be useful.

Possible. Also, Bear Island is full of awesome Warrior Women. Our new wife is awesome but it's sort of a shame we can't have a brutal Lady of Murder at our side. ........wonder if Alyssa would be interested in a Consort? She married the fucking Dark Lord of the Vale knowing exactly who we are. Maybe she's into the Dark Lady lifestyle and is expecting us to have concubines lounging at the foot of our Skull Throne?

>>41094901
>I don't like the idea of murdering other lords for their land, though.

Was only half serious. But renting troops to other Westerosi Lords is a valid option. About a quarter of them are fighting each other at any given time for countless reasons.

Of course, they need to keep the conflict down to a certain level or some higher up the ladder will get pissed off and censure them.

Outright Murdering Noble Dynasties and taking their lands is the sort of thing that could bring down all kinds of shit. But renting men to whoever Frey pissed off this week and pillaging his lands a little wouldn't bother anyone (except Frey).
>>
>>41095720
I say we should suggest it but as a joke.

If she approves, cool. If she just laughs it off, also cool.

No real downside.
>>
>>41096327
"Alyssa dear, I feel like my new Skull Throne just looks a bit stark on its own. It needs something .....extra. Tell me, do you think a few concubines chained to the foot of the throne would compliment it? Also, would you enjoy blonds, brunets, or redheads?"
>>
>>41096439
"And should they be rather busty, or will you get envious? Either way is fine, so long as they're in skimpy rags."

Just the most ridiculous shit said with a straight face until the end.
>>
>>41096500
We had~ 50 - 100 men slaughtered and hung up as scarecrows on the boarder of our land not that long ago (I think. Progression of time is a nightmare to track in the quest).

That's a lot of skulls just sitting there, not being used by anyone.

We could totally make a Skull Throne and do this.
>>
>>41095720
>rent out your troops as mercenaries to other lords

Truly, it is a soldier's paradise. No nations, no borders, no peace, only war.
A heaven, if you will.
>>
>>41096591
>We could totally make a Skull Throne and do this.

Or one out of skulls and iron.

The Seat of Black and White.
>>
>>41096591
>>41096979
I'm semi-ok with this

>>41096619
Yeah, definitely want to blood our men

Basically what we are going for is to look like the most hardcore muthafucka in the seven kingdoms
>>
>>41097123
Oh, one more thing on the mercenary note. Once we get ANY rep as a source for mercenaries we need them to be stupid expensive; because we/our men are worth that
>>
>>41097143
Well, yeah. Our Goal is WEALTH and our Vice is AVARICIOUS.

We make them pay for quality troops, then our troops loot everything not nailed down!

>>41096979
I really am loving this idea now. Not even partly joking any more. I want a Throne of Iron and Skulls. Once we get back home, I'm voting to commission one.
>>
>>41097413
>We make them pay for quality troops, then our troops loot everything not nailed down!

Then our troops sell what they find at a rather reasonably high price.
>>
>>41083256
Holy shit, I was a constant contributor to that quest.

I miss it.
>>
>>41097859
and like many good qms, disappeared with no trace =(

At least page comes back once a year.
>>
>>41098134
Aye, I plan on getting into this one - been reading through the old threads, they're brilliant.
>>
>>41094652

If we decide to send some of our men over to Essos, how will our reputation in Westeros and the Vale be affected?
>>
>>41100619
Clearly that's a complicated question that would take some real study to decide.

Offhand, you'd probably take a minor hit to Influence, as it's seen as mildly degrading. But if you establish a strong reputation as being good at it, and your companies remain professional, then it's likely it would be passed over and potentially become a feather in your cap, so to speak.
>>
>>41100767

Alright.

I say we should do it then.
>>
>>41100767
Do you have a twitter or something ?
Great quest btw, I spent all night reading the previous thread.
>>
>>41100839
>Do you have a twitter or something ?

Read the thread.

>>41083965
>>
>>41100619
Their attitude to us will probably improve. They'll be a lot less pissy that we've got a thousand Elite Troops sitting around and looking menacing.

Our reputation shouldn't change noticeably. Not until some developments come of it. We'd still the Lord of Murder. We'd still be that mad fucker that decorates and entire stretch of his boarder with scarecrows and eats babies.

They'll think much the same of us, they'll just be less concerned we're going to invade them at any given moment.
>>
>>41100767
We should give it a shot, then! I suggest naming the mercenary company the Bloodsmiths in honor of our Honor Guard.
>>
>>41100950
Nah, letting another unit ape the name of our Most Elite Murder Bros would be kind of insulting to them.

They are the Bloodsmiths. There can be no others.

We need to give our first Merc Company their own name.
>>
>>41100950
>>41100833

One thing to consider is how deals will be handled for them.

Also, there is some small concern vis a vis the Golden Company, if they'll take kindly to an official army of Sellswords from Westeros, when they're the army of Westerosi exiles. And trust me, pissing off the Golden Company is a bad idea.
>>
>>41100950

What >>41101034 said.

I suggest the Red Iron Company.

>>41101123

True. That would be a shit thing to do.
>>
>>41097859
Me too, that fat bastard of a son really pulled through in the end.

>>41096439
>>41095720
>>41096327
Or not.

>>41101123
What's the situation in the Stepstones right now? Are they overrun with pirates?
>>
>>41101123
>Golden Company, if they'll take kindly to an official army of Sellswords from Westeros

Us and our men are professionals. We all know not to step on the toes of groups that are currently out of our weight class.

Essos is fuckhuge. We can find work that won't put us against anything capable of stepping on us.
>>
>>41101339

I'm going to be honest here, and "pull back the curtain", so to speak, on my style of QMing. If you don't want your opinion of me altered, don't read the spoiler.

Never heard of them.

I actually am not as well-versed on Song of Ice and Fire lore as some might assume. I haven't even finished DWD yet. I caught up on the show on Saturday. What I AM good at is quickly absorbing information, and making connections.

If you had asked me to name Lords of the Vale before last night's thread, I've have said "WIlliam, Arryn, Lynderlys, ... um ... Baelish ... Corbray's one, right? The homosexual pedophile with the sword that Littlefinger bribed? Oh, Tollet, duh." I don't even guarantee I'd have remembered Royce.

Once it was clear that you guys wanted to see more of the Vale, I then devoured the relevant information. Hunter, Coldwater, Royce and Royce of the Gates, Arryn and Arryn of Gulltown, Melcolm, The houses of the Three Sisters. The Ancient King of the Fingers, and how Runestone was almost claimed by Daemon Targaryen during the Dance of Dragons. That Eon Hunter rules Longbow Hall, with his three sons, Eustace, Harlan, and the other one, and that according to Littlefinger, Harlan killed Eon. The story of Lyn and Lyonel Corbray, and why Lyonel hates Lyn. I learned all of that between >>41087845 and >>41088176

So, what I'm saying is: until you made that post, I had never heard of Stepstones and bothered to remember it. And that's true of several regions of the world. I have no idea what's currently happening in Essos, politically or militarily.

That's because I focused on things I needed to know. Now that you guys have expressed interest in getting involved with such things, I'll spend an hour or two learning it all.

Since you asked, I've learned enough about them to say "Probably."
>>
>>41101899
It also doesn't help that, by focusing on what I assume is relevant, that I can forget things I actually DO know..

Like, I forgot to include House Hardyng in my more complete list of the Houses, despite knowing that he's important to Baelish's plans in FfCs and later.
>>
>>41101899
>>41101964

It's fine, Page.

Don't worry about it.
>>
>>41101899
>>41101964
That happens, and adapting is a good skill for a GM/QM. That being said, we should go kick some pirate butt.

next thread when?
