"Fine, I'll fight first," you decide, stepping forward towards the Ginyu Force.

"Well, then, I'm definitely going first," Ginyu announces, taking a step towards you.

"No fair, Captain!" Jeice complains.

"Yeah, come on, you always hog all the good fights!" Burter agrees.

"I wanna beat him!" Recoome whines.

"No, me! You guys never let me have the fun fights!" Guldo protests.

"Fine, how about this? We let our friend here decide which of us he wants to fight first," Ginyu suggests, pointing to you. "So, how about it, kid? Who's it going to be?"

You take a moment to think over your options. Captain Ginyu is their leader, and the strongest among them. Maybe you should fight him? Then again, Guldo's powers could cause trouble for your friends.

Activating your Saiyaman White suit, you point to Ginyu, and declare that he's the one you're going to fight. The other Ginyu Force members groan in disappointment as their captain chuckles.

"Very good," he says with a grin. "Now, what do you say we see what you're made of?"

You still can't get a reading on his power level, but his confidence makes you a bit uneasy. Even when you first encountered the Ginyu Force on Namek years ago, you were powerful enough to crush them all easily. But now, every last one of them seems not only willing to fight you despite your power, but eager.

Maybe you should play this a bit carefully. At the very least, you should be wary of Ginyu's body change ability. It doesn't matter how much weaker he is than you if he steals your body, after all.

You try to lock onto Ginyu's energy signature for an Instant Transmission attack, but are still unable to get a read on it, leaving you to attack the normal way.

In what was once your typical fashion, you charge your opponent head on, attacking with all of your might. Your first punch creates a crater as Ginyu blocks it with his left arm.

Stepping back with his right foot, Ginyu throws a punch with his right fist, and you drop to the ground and spin to avoid it, ending up behind Ginyu and throwing a kick between his shoulder blades, pushing him to the ground a few feet away. You turn and fire an energy blast at Ginyu as he begins to push himself up, and watch as he swats it away and gets back to his feet, extending his left hand towards you and opening his palm, which begins to glow purple.

"Milky Cannon!" he shouts, firing a large purple orb of energy from his palm.

Not knowing how powerful the attack is, you take the cautious course of action and dodge it, leaping into the sky and looking down to see the purple orb explode in a large shockwave of energy.

Ginyu rushes up after you, and you answer by raining energy attacks down on him as he approaches. Ginyu avoids the blasts and quickly reaches you, but your volley slows him down just enough for you to land a kick to his face once he's in range.

Ginyu is knocked away, and angrily fires an energy wave at you, which you deflect right back at him, charging as you do. Ginyu ducks to avoid his attack and you catch him off-guard again, firing an energy wave into his chest to knock him off balance, and another one to hit him while he's disoriented.

Ginyu corrects himself just in time to deflect your second blast, but you immediately charge in, slamming your fist into his face. Ginyu responds with a headbutt that nearly causes you to lose an eye to one of his horns, and grabs you by your shirt as you dodge it.

Ginyu spins, throwing you to the ground and firing a barrage of energy blasts down after you. You crash on your back to the ground, and look up to see the hailstorm of death rapidly plummeting towards you.

With a yell, you begin tapping into your true power, letting it rise as you thrust your hands forward and fire a barrage of blasts to meet Ginyu's.

Each of your blasts strikes one of his, detonating both in great flashes of light that illuminate the sky all around you. Of course, given Ginyu's head start, one or two of his blasts do end up reaching you. You fight through the pain, however, and the ground around you shatters as your power climbs, and your aura turns the same blue as your Kamehameha wave.

You rise to your feet, staring up at Ginyu who looks at his scouter in disbelief. The other Ginyus seem unable to believe what they're reading, and you're having trouble believing that their scouters haven't exploded from your power output yet.

"So...you were holding back," he growls.

"So, are you really Ginyu?" you ask, slowly lifting into the air. "By now, your scouters should have broken, since there's no way you could have upgraded them in such a short amount of time."

"Of course I'm Ginyu!" the Captain insists. "And you should be honored to die at my hands."

"Ah, is this the part where you try to swap bodies?" you ask, suddenly zipping behind Ginyu. "Because, I'm not going to let you."

You slam your elbow into the back of Ginyu's head, then spin around and kick him off into the distance. As Ginyu soars through the sky and into the distance, you cup your hands at your side.

"Kamehameha!" you shout, thrusting your hands towards the shrinking figure and unleashing a bright blue beam of energy upon him.

You can't tell if your blast has worked, since Ginyu was quite far away by the time it reached him. But, after nearly a minute, he has not returned.

"Captain, no!" Jeice shout in Horror.

"This can't be happening!" Burter hisses.

"What are we gonna do now, you guys?" Recoome asks.

"I say we get out of here while we still can!" Guldo suggests.

Recoome shakes his head. "No. We'll show these weaklings what the Ginyu Force is all about!"

"Damn right we will!" Jeice agrees. "But which one of us should fight first?"

"I say you should let me take a crack at them," Recoome says, cracking his knuckles. "I'll have them crying for mommy in no time."

"Easy, Recoome,"Jeice warns. "No hogging all of them for yourself."

"Fine, I'll just pick one," Recoome says, looking between you and your friends.

"Hey, Kaguya got the last fight, so let one of us have a turn," Gohan suggests, crossing his arms in irritation.

"Fine then, tough guy," Recoome replies, looking at Gohan. "I guess I'll have to kick your ass like I did on Namek."

"Sixteen, help me keep an eye out for Ginyu," you instruct the Android as Gohan steps towards Recoome.

"As you wish," Sixteen replies, looking around for any sign of the alien.

"Alright kid, let's see if you've improved at all since Namek," Recoome says, waiting for Gohan to make the first move.

Gohan smirks, transforming into a Super Saiyan. Recoome reacts with mild surprise as his scouter informs him of Gohan's power increase. But, Gohan isn't done, and, locking his elbows at his sides, the half-saiyan begins to yell, his power climbing rapidly as the wind around him picks up.

Recoome's eyes widen as the scouter registers this power increase, and, with a final yell, Gohan transforms into a Super Saiyan Two, sparks flashing around him as he launches himself at his opponent.

Recoome is caught entirely off guard, and receives a punch to the face that sends him flying past Burter and Jeice. Gohan gives chase, kicking into the large warrior's gut and sending him crashing to the ground. Gohan dives down after him, and slams his knee into Recoome's gut again, causing him to spit out blood.

Grabbing Recoome's wrist, Gohan spins and throws the large warrior into the air, holding his hands above his head and gathering energy.

"MASENKO, HA!" he screams, firing a golden wave of energy up at the ascending Ginyu Force member.

Burter and Jeice shield their eyes as the blast reaches Recoome in a massive explosion, creating a powerful gust of wind and sending chunks of armor flying in all directions. As the scorched pieces of armor fall to the ground, Gohan continues to stare up at the cloud formed by the attack.

As the smoke clears, you see that, while scorched, Recoome is very much alive, and doesn't seem particularly hurt. In fact, he's looking down at Gohan with a grin.

"Not bad, kid," Recoome says sincerely, slowly lowering himself to the ground. "Those were some good moves. You've gotten better since Namek."

"Cell, is any of this making sense to you?" you ask the bio-android standing not far from you. "These guys were below Frieza on Namek, and now they're able to handle attacks that would've killed your father."

"The explanation is simple," Cell assures you. "They are not really the Ginyu Force."

"I believe he is correct," Sixteen admits. "What little readings I am able to collect on these five warriors does not match with my records of the Ginyu Force."

"Exactly," Cell says with a nod. "I don't know who they are, or why they're imitating the Ginyu Force, but it does make for an interesting battle, and that's really all that concerns me right now."

"Well, I betcha a candy bar that Gohan wins," you tell him.

Cell smirks. "You may not want to do that."

"Now, let's end the warmup and get serious!" Recoome declares, striking a pose. "Recoome kick!"

Recoome rushes at Gohan with speed that surprises you, and Gohan. The kick catches Gohan in the jaw, sending him back into the air. Recoome brings his fists together and slams them down on Gohan, sending the Super Saiyan crashing to the ground.

Gohan rolls out of the way and leaps to his feet as Recoome attempts to stomp on him. With a yell, your friend throws a mighty punch that hits Recoome in the face, sending the larger warrior staggering back.

Recoome chuckles and spits out some blood. "Good. You've got plenty of fight in you. I guess I won't have to worry about getting bored."

"No, you'll have to worry about getting killed," Gohan replies before charging Recoome, throwing another punch that the larger warrior catches.

As Recoome punches Gohan in the chest and throws him to the ground, you decide to go look for Ginyu. If Recoome is able to shrug off Gohan's attacks like this, Ginyu should be very much alive after what you did to him.

Bringing Sixteen, you head to the area where you last saw Ginyu, searching for any signs of the Ginyu Force's leader. Surprisingly, you find him rather quickly, standing on the ground below you, and missing an arm.

As you look down at Ginyu, the missing arm seems to materialize out of nowhere, and the alien looks up at you, grinning.

"Alright kid, ready for round two?"

I think that that's kind of a missed opportunity once you decide you're going to rush to even the mid hundreds, let alone thousands.

As I understood the concept, there's a lot of "strong" people out there. But the difference of what counts as "strong" between DB and DBZ is a gigantic fucking threshold and once you cross it there's no going back if you want a new party or to have a thrilling adventure on that level.

It's basically the same reason Yajirobe got to be considered a competent fighter who could at least pretend to contribute, but Mr. Satan is a joke character. They were probably about as strong in their intros, but everything else escalated to the point where that stopped being relevant.

It's basically the same as playing a video game and being warned that before you keep going on the main quest, you should REALLY do more side missions and look for items. Because you can't really go backwards without trying to tie yourself into knots justifying it.

You know that was kind of strange that there weren't MORE people like Yajarobe around. Dude was as strong as Goku was by the 22nd WMAT and all he's been going for the last 16 years of his life is living as a fatass samurai. Hell, people like Nam were still around, strong as shit. Or King Chappa, or Giran, or whatever. Fuckin' scrounge up some of those folks from time to time.

Also everyone forgetting what Ki Blasts are just because Mark started going around yelling that they were "tricks" never sat well with me. People knew the Kamehameha BY NAME in DB. Fucking everyone knew who Master Roshi was. A green-skinned alien monster literally stormed the palace of the King of the World and blew up the fucking city. Did someone put stupid pills in the water supply? I'm surprised they still have it on record, because Videl was able to put 2 and 2 together and do some research.

I think people are so obsessed with power levels they forget that Dragonball had it's own escalation it didn't put into numbers. Because Power Levels are bullshit and if everyone keeps focusing on getting more of them they miss the point of Dragonball.

As for people forgetting, I think it's important to remember the size of the world and how much it'd changed over just a generation. Capsules and super advanced modern cities had replaced nimbus clouds and mystic solutions rather handily, and things either adapted or got left behind. That's kind of where Gohan finally became useful in Online, since he managed to actually translate the information that used to be owned by only a few people into something regular folks could understand and use.

Since make no mistake, the Kamehameha was only ever used by like, five people in the entire world, tops. Of them, Gohan and Roshi kept themselves away from the world and Goku never really does stuff on stage so it'd only be something you'd hear of second hand. Even in that context guys like the original Tournament audience were mostly guys into a specific "scene" while the later tournaments were for general audiences.

This is mostly just me trying to organize Toriyama's BS into something believable(I actually wanted to run a DB quest thread before they became so ridiculously common), but there is a kind of logic one can follow if you squint REALLY hard.

Basically though I think it helps to imagine it like this:

You have two separate cultures: Urban, modern people and the more rural folksy types. The first type is mostly in the west where Bulma lives and use technology and engineering, since that's where both Capsule Corp and Red Ribbon were based. The second type is in the east and they're the ones who dress traditional chinese esque and practice martial arts and live in a manner that's a bit more traditional by comparison. This being where Goku, Yamcha, Roshi, and most of the other serious fighters live. Even east capital, which is often shown as a pretty modern place, was also shown in Galactic Patrol to be full of monks and Ronin doing their thing, and that's also where Orin temple is located, so it's more martial and traditional by comparison to the other capitals.

For a quick visual guide, the west is pretty much like the real life west, since that's where blondes and redheads(and blue and purple) all come from, as well as natives like Bora's tribe. In the east everyone is dark haired and everyone generally looks a bit more asian.

The world tournament, where everyone from around the world goes to fight, is pretty much dead center of all this geographically. You get guys from pretty much everywhere. So if the specific crowd interested in martial arts mingles there, then they've probably heard of a bunch of super specific weird shit nobody else would have. But once the arena was destroyed and that crowd dispersed, they probably quieted down.
