What safer place to be than far away from the enemy patrols. Once the coast is clear, you slowly make your way to Houki's room. Staying low, you avoided the detection of any wander students or lab assistants. Once in front of Houki's door, you knock on the door and place yourself in front of it like a delivery.

“Yes?” Shizune says after she opens the door.

She looks around in slight confusion before seeing your QPCS on the ground.

“Houki-chan, it's for you.” Shizune tells Houki.

You can see Houki come to the door before looking down the hallway.

“It's clear John. You can come in now.” Houki informs you.

You quickly enter with the door closing swiftly behind you. Popping out of the QPCS and putting it back into your inventory, you feel relieved to be in a safe location.

“Sorry for imposing.” you tell Houki and Shizune.

“It's no problem at all.” Houki replies happily.

“It's almost like a lovers' tryst.” Shizune adds.

“It's nothing that illicit. I'm just avoiding people that want to ruin my time with you all of you.” you reply with a smile.

“Yeah, it's just the two of us meeting before our date.” Houki says bashfully as she plays with her hair.

“You mean the date at the festivals with the fireworks...” Shizune begins to say excitedly before Houki places her hands on her mouth.

Houki is completely flustered at Shizune's words. A quick look at their desks shows a multitude of magazines with the primary topic being about dating. There was even one magazine with the main topic being about making the best of a summer date at a festival. Before you are able to pick up that magazine, Houki grabs your shoulders and turns you away from the desk.

“What are you doing?” Houki asks as her voice cracks from the embarrassment.

“I was going to see what that magazine was about.” you answer calmly.

“You can't.” Houki replies quickly, trying to hide her embarrassment.

Shizune giggles at the scene before she asks, “So why are you so early John-kun?”

“I thought wouldn't it be fun to head out early with you, Houki.” you answer as you slightly turn around to face both of them.

“Ah. I would like that.” Houki replies, letting go of you to play with her fingers. “But, I'm not ready.” Houki adds in a low, shy voice.

“I don't mind waiting for you.” you reply.

“I'll get ready then.” Houki says with a calmer voice even if she is blushing.

“No good. You need to head back to your room and get the right clothes first.” Shizune informs you.

“You think so?” you ask as you motion to your current clothes, a pair of jeans with a t-shirt.

“Perhaps you are right Shizune.” you say after you think about it for a second.

“Good. Now get going so Houki-chan can change.” Shizune tells you while winking at Houki.

“Houki, I'll meet you at the train station.” you tell her.

“Umu. I'll be there.” Houki replies happily.

Shizune leads you to the door before opening it and making sure the coast is clear. You pull out your Mikan QPCS and deploy it after you get the all clear. After Shizune closes the door, you can hear her say something to Houki excitedly. Guess Houki was asking Shizune for tips and Shizune is happy at how things turned out.

Turning your attention back onto your task at hand, you head towards your room. Avoiding the wandering people on this floor was easy enough until you reached the stairwell. This will be hard if Ms Foss' forces are smart and keep an eye on the stairs. Thankfully no one is currently using the stairs. You move quickly and silently up the stairs but are forced to stop at the third floor. Two 3rd year girls pass by you.

“Something wrong?” one 3rd year girl asks the other.

“It's just that cardboard box.” the other one answers.

“Oh, you mean the haunted delivery box? The one that appeared all over the dorm during that nasty storm to never be seen again.” the first 3rd year girl asks.

“Yeah, the one with buildings and a dog on it.” the second 3rd year girl replies.

“Don't be silly, it's probably something the 1st year girls made up when the power went out.” the first 3rd year girl says with a laugh.

The second 3rd year girls joins her friends laughter as they head down the stairs.

“Grandpa.” you whisper to yourself as you shake your head.

Once the two girls are out of sight, you covered the last flight of stairs in no time. With the 4th floor empty of any patrols, you quickly get in your room and close the door behind you. You perform a quick sweep of your room for any people, bugs or trackers. Once done, you take a quick shower and get changed into a nice pair of slacks with an equally nice looking polo shirt. Just as you were about to head out, your door is loudly banged on.

“We know you're in there.” a voice yells after banging on your door.

“No we don't. If he's as smart as we think he is, this would be the last place he would be.” another voice says.

“But what if he is so smart that he knows that we know he won't be here so he came here to avoid us.” the first voice retorts.

“Fine, you wait here. I'll keep looking around since Foss will not rest until she finds him.” the second voice replies.

“Better than walking around pointlessly.” the first voice says with a touch of frustration.

Crap, that person will delay things. You just have to figure out how to deal with her.

“John, remember your CQC training.” your Grandpa tells you in your head.

“I do Grandpa, I do.” you think to yourself.

Waiting for the instant the person on the other side of the door hesitates, you get ready to jump out and perform a sleeper hold. This does remind you to request a tranq gun though. Hopefully you'll get a chance for that when you head home tomorrow night.

Hearing her feet shuffle on the other side, you silently open the door and that is when you strike. She wasn't able to react or resist before you had her in a sleeper hold. She quickly passes out in your arms. You easily shift her body to turn off her radio and carry her to the end of the hallway next to the stairwell. Here she should be somewhat comfortable and think she just fell asleep from fatigue.

You head downstairs nonchalantly after making sure her partner is no where to be seen. You were able to avoid all of Ms Foss' patrols by using the local surrounds to avoid their sight. You can't exactly wrinkle your clothes before your date with Houki. The train station is empty when you arrive so you place yourself behind one of the support pillars to stay out of sight.

Houki reaches the waiting platform a couple of minutes after you. She is wearing a wide collared shirt under a tank top with a short straight skirt with thigh highs. She looks pretty cute in a casual way.

“Hey.” you say with a wave of you hand.

“There you are. Did you wait long?” Houki asks with a smile.

“Not at all.” you answer as you take her hand to lead her to a place hidden from prying eyes. “You look cute in that Houki.” you tell her while still holding her hand.

“Really?” Houki asks as she plays with her hair with her free hand.

“Yeah, it's nice to see you wear some casual clothes instead of the school uniform.” you answer with a soft smile.

Not that the school uniform is bad, it's just variety is nice. Especially on beautiful and cute girls you are constantly surrounded by. Houki just smiles brightly at your words. Happy at your she takes your arm and holds you close. So that is why she chose those clothes. When you are this close to her the open style of the shirt lets you easily see down it into her ample cleavage. You can even see her bra from here, a light pink.

“Is there a problem John?” Houki asks as if she realizes you were staring down her shirt.

“Just thinking of how I have this cute girl on my arm and where we should go first.” you answer, looking up into her eyes.

“Yes, it would be good to bring your family some souvenirs.” Houki replies, agreeing with your assessment. “It would be good to make a good impression with your parents.” Houki mumbles under her breath.

“Hmm?” you react to words.

“Oh, it's nothing. Nothing.” Houki quickly says. “There's the train.” Houki points out.

You just smile and wait for the train to stop. Looks like the patrols were not expecting you to leave the island. Not very smart of them to leave the one escape route unguarded. You both board the train without any pursuers.

Along the way to the city proper, Houki tells you, “To pick up the sword for your cousin, we'll have to switch trains at the station.”

“It's great that you can show me the way. When I payed over the phone, I had to Google their address. It looked confusing to get there.” you reply.

“It is a venerable swordsmith workshop with generations of experience behind them. So it would be natural for it to be in the older parts of the city.” Houki tells you with a touch of pride.

“Still looked like a headache to get there.” you reply flatly.

Houki smiles and says, “I thought you would have no problem getting there. You seem to never get lost.”

“I have a map so I would have been fine. Would just would have probably taken me longer to get there.” you reply.

“Then let me guide you there.” Houki tells you confidently.

“I'll be in your hands.” you reply with a smile.

The rest of the first train trip to the city proper is pleasant. The both of you get off and wait for the next train. After waiting hand in hand, your train comes and brings you north of the current train stop. From that stop you head west into the older part of city. Houki then leads you the rest of the way. It's obvious of how much older this area is. Walls around every house and lots of electrical poles speak of tacked on infrastructure. Houki confidently lead you the way even as you looked at Google maps on your phone to keep your bearings.

“We're here.” Houki says pointing out the storefront.

You both enter with a bell announcing your presence. The bored shopkeeper looks at Houki, recognizing her and then at you with a curious look.

“I'm here to pick up a sword we ordered.” you tell him as you take out the bill and commission letter.

He takes this and reads over it.

“Ah Smith-san, the KATANA you ordered is ready.” he informs you, “Please come this way.”

The shopkeeper leads you and Houki to a room filled with finished bladed weapons. He looks over the tags to find the one prepared for you. Finding it, picks it up and hands it to you.

“Draw it John.” Houki tells you.

A quick look at the shopkeeper nods giving the ok. You draw the katana from the sheath, the polished blade glistens. The sword is light in your hands yet has some heft to it. You aren't too sure about the balance but it does not affect your handling at all.

“So how is it?” Houki asks, curious about your opinion.

“It is well made without question and it has the right feel to it. Light and accurate but with weight behind it making the swing smooth and effortless.” you answer as you continue to handle it.

The shopkeeper gives a proud yet calm nod at your words. You re-sheath the sword and he leads you back out of the room. He has you sign some paperwork about you receiving the sword and completion of the request. At Houki's recommendation you buy a cloth holder to conceal the sword. With everything done, you aren't sure what to do next.

As you were leaving, one of the displayed items caught your eye. A highly stylized letter opener in the same style as the katana you just bought.

“Oh, I know. Why don't I ask the shopkeeper about any local places to buy souvenirs.” you say out loud.

“That's a good idea. Your family will love something made locally.” Houki says, happy at the idea.

Heading back to the shopkeeper with the letter opener in hand, you ask him about locals stores that would be good to buy souvenirs at. His response completely caught you by surprise. He ends up listing several places that are close by, from glass makers to porcelain makers and even Japanese style sweets along with directions to get there. Houki is able to quickly pick up where they are. The shopkeeper is confident in his recommendations even going so far as to tell them that he recommended you to their shop.

After getting all the directions, you buy the letter opener for your Uncle George. Houki then leads you out of the storefront and to the closest store, a glass store. Then a Japanese style porcelain store. After that was a traditional crafts store, ending at a Japanese sweets store. The flurry of purchases that leave your wallet and bank account lighter. But you don't mind too much as Houki helped you buy the souvenirs for your family. A porcelain tea set for your Mom, a matching set of eye pleasing drinking glasses for your Dad, Uncles and Grandpa, a set of colorful hand fans for Aunt Olga and a bunch of sweets for Sunny. Thankfully Uncle Ota already gave you a list of anime stuff he wanted you to buy so you don't have to worry about him.

“I think it's time we head to the shrine. That way we can put down all the souvenirs before the festival starts.” Houki tells you as she snacks on one of the sweets you bought her.

Houki looks at you with a puzzled look before continuing, “I also want to greet my Aunt Yukiko before it starts.”

“Sure, I already met your sister so an aunt will be no problem.” you tell her.

You switched trains a couple of times before you get off a bit southwest of the train station to the IS Academy Island. After a bit of a walk you arrive at the shrine grounds. It looks like almost all the stalls are put up with the shrine decorations already complete.

Houki looks around nostalgically before telling you, “Aunt Yukiko should be around.”

The two of you don't wander around long before an older woman wearing a maroon kimono calls out to you, “So this is where you have been Houki-chan.”

“Sorry for being late.” Houki replies to the older woman.

“It's fine if you wanted to look around. I'm just glad you came.” the older woman tells Houki.

“Ah, John. This is my Aunt Yukiko.” Houki introduces you.

“Nice to meet you, I'm John Smith, Yukiko-san.” you courteously introduce yourself.

“Oh and he's polite.” Yukiko tells herself.

“W-well, he is my boyfriend.” Houki informs her with a slight embarrassed stammer.

Yukiko shows a small, proud smile at those words, “Before I know it, you are becoming a woman Houki-chan.”

“Aunt Yukiko.” Houki replies in a slightly flustered voice.

“I thought you were going to help us out here but I guess you'll want to spend the time with your boyfriend.” Yukiko says with a light tone.

“Are you sure?” Houki asks you.

“Yeah. I'm sure it will look great on you.” you answer her confidently.

“If you insist.” Houki relents.

Yukiko laughs lightly at the two of you, “Houki-chan, let's get you changed then.”

Yukiko leads both of you around the shrine to living area. She tells you to wait here for a bit while she leads Houki to a place to change. Waiting around patiently, you are reminded of something regarding mikos.

“John, what do you think of that outfit?” Uncle Ota asks you.

“You mean that traditional religious outfit in the show?” you ask in return.

“Well yes, the Miko outfit is a traditional outfit for shrine maidens in Japan. But tell me, do you find it moe?” Uncle Ota continues to ask.

“I do find it aesthetically pleasing.” you answer as you continue to watch the anime show Uncle Ota is showing you.

“But what about the moe?” Uncle Ota presses for an answer.

“I guess so.” you answer, not fully understanding what moe was at that point in your life.

“Good, good. Now what about those yukatas?” Uncle Ota asks.

“They look kind of hard to move around in. How can you defend yourself from an enemy attack if you don't have your full range of movements?” you counter with your question.

“I know your Grandpa stresses self-defense and combat ability but not all clothing is used in combat. After all, it's tradition that that women don't wear any underwear under a yukata. So it would be problematic if they moved in the wrong way.” Uncle Ota tells you with surety.

“Mommy, daddy is teaching John something strange.” Sunny yells out, calling for Aunt Olga.

You smile and shake your head at that memory. Uncle Ota sure had a bunch of strange things he taught you when you were young. Not much later you hear the door slide open. Standing there is Houki wearing the miko outfit. She is slightly embarrassed showing it off to you.

“So what do you think?” Houki asks you, her voice colored in embarrassment.

You are completely floored at the sight.

“Hot damn.” you say before you take out your phone to take a bunch of pictures, “You look great in that Houki.”

“Wait John. This is embarrassing.” Houki pleads.

“Can't wait. You look too good.” you reply as you continue to take photos of her.

Houki ends up standing there, all bashful and flustered as you continue to take pictures to your hearts contentment. You finally understand. So this is what moe is Uncle Ota.

“Now, now. I think that's enough” Yukiko tells you.

“Alright.” you reply, putting down your phone.

“It's nice to be young.” Yukiko comments before taking Houki back into the changing room.

You wait longer this time as the sun has completely set. Eventually Houki and Yukiko emerges from the changing room. Houki is wearing a deep red floral pattern yukata. Her considerable bust showing through the flattering yukata.

“Oh this is nice, seeing you like this. You look very cute.” you tell Houki honestly.

Houki can only blush madly at your words. Unable to say anything in response, Houki just bashfully plays with her hair.

“It's time you two head to the festival.” Yukiko informs you.

“Let's go.” you tell Houki as you reach out with your hand to her.

“Umu.” Houki replies as she takes your hand.

Now where do you head to first.

Still feeling a bit full from the Japanese sweets you ate earlier, you decide to try your hand at the stall games. Heading back to the festival proper, you are surprised at the crowd of people here.

“Wow, I didn't expect this many people.” you say out loud.

“The Shinonono shrine is very popular with the neighborhood so we have always gotten lots of people since I was a child.” Houki informs you.

You keep Houki close by holding each others hand as you make your way though the festival. The first stop is a game stand is on you know very well, the shooting gallery.

“So which prize do you want?” you ask Houki as you pay the game manager a try.

“That one.” Houki says as she points out a small stuffed bear.

You take aim and fire. Only for the cork to veer slightly to the right. You quickly correct your aim, adjusting for the poorly zeroed sights. The next shot is a confirmed kill, a clean head shot. The stall manager hands you the stuffed bear, which you then give to Houki.

The two of you try out a bunch of other game stands. The one you completely lost at was the catching goldfish one. You didn't get the wrist movement for it at all. Even after Houki showed you how to do it. Along the way you picked up some food and sweets. A lot of it was fried but was pretty good. After you perused the stands, Houki lead you to the main theater of the shrine.

“The Kagura dance is about to start.” Houki tells you.

You were about to ask what the Kagura dance entails but it starts before you can ask. A girl only a couple years older than Houki appears on the stage wearing a more ornate miko outfit. She dances around in a set way that you don't really understand. Maybe you were too distracted by the idea of Houki wearing the miko outfit to think about it.

After the elaborate Kagura dance, Houki asks, “So what did you think of the Kagura dance?”

“To be honest, I didn't really understand it.” you answer honestly.

“But did you think it was pretty?” Houki asks you.

“I think so. I think it would have been prettier if you wore that instead of the current miko.” you answer after a bit of thought.

“John, you really liked it when I wore it, didn't you?” Houki asks you as her face turns a cute shade of red.

“Yup.” you answer with a big smile.

Houki first sighs then just smiles at you. She then pulls your hand, leading you away from the crowd.

“So where are we heading?” you ask Houki after walking together for a bit.

“Here.” Houki answers as you just arrive at a desolate viewing area.

From here, you can see most of the city and Academy Island. You stand side by side with Houki overlooking the city under the starry sky. The city looks as if it is reflecting the stars above with only the silky blackness of the ocean breaking apart the sea of lights. To your side, you see Houki fidgeting and blushing over something.

“Is something wrong?” you ask her after you turn to face her.

You can see she is slowly building up her courage to say something.

“John, after I've come to meet you...” Houki lets out in a nervous, embarrassed voice. “The truth is I...” Houki tries to say but was interrupted by the opening barrage of fireworks.

Houki doesn't have to say anything more. You gently take her by the shoulders and pull her close. You press your lips against her in a kiss. At first Houki is surprised but quickly accepts you. You continue to sweetly kiss her as the fireworks fire off in the distant background. You are sure it was a spectacular display but were far more concerned with the amorous sparks with Houki you are making. You can't help but continue to pull her closer into your arms as the fireworks barrage continues on through the night.

There was one unexpected thing you found out. Uncle Ota was wrong, girls do wear their underwear underneath their yukata. Just that there is no bra and a different kind of bottom.
