Essential stats: http://pastebin.com/jsfxVKt7

You manage surprisingly well. Admittedly, much of your success can be attributed to the dogs, but even so. Your careful tracking brings you close to the herd and you can feel the breeze on your skin well enough to get downwind of them, sneaking closer and closer. Then, you give a piercing whistle and the dogs sprint away, fanning out and barking, dividing the herd and driving part of it towards you. You do not trust your sightless aim enough to react swiftly and hurl your javelin as you ordinarily would, however with your hands already extended, once the beast comes close enough, you already have the javelin hovering just beneath your hand and ready to go. At once, you launch it forward and skewer the leaping deer. Another whistle through your teeth and the dogs close in for the kill, bringing the doe down for you to prepare and bring home.

Your hunt only goes all the smoother, after you say a prayer to Lugal and touch your hand to the ground, searching out with your magic. The forest around you pulses with life, like the beat of a heart. You don't receive a direct response from the stag god, but you can feel his presence, pushing your awareness towards what you seek. A hunter is as much part of the cycle of life and death in the forest, as any other animal. With your help, the herds are kept in check, the slow, weak and old weeded out and their numbers kept from overflowing what the valley can sustain. With Lugal's spirit guidance, you bring home more than you would otherwise be able to, so long as you take what he asks.

You successfully gather three units of meat before the summer begins.

Nah he doesn't die, he takes a couple minutes to go to the other dimension, give Tyrm advice and then makes sure he follows it and then he has to come back and write up how it turns out. Honestly I'm surprised he comes back as soon as he does, inter-dimensional travel is dangerous.

And of course there are those times where God summons him back to help oversee the creation of new universes. God always tries to get him back in time but, as you know, when transporting a being of that much power there are distortions in the fabric of space time so it's thrown off by anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple hours.

The traders at the small village market are glad to see you, but then, they're glad to see absolutely anyone. Noh accompanies you, his eyes wide at the array of goods on display. He knows you see with magic, but still he can't stop himself excitedly describing every splash of colour and interesting thing to you. The traders seem mostly to accept bone and furs, grain and smoked meat in exchange for their exotics. They don't bring any food of their own, but rather small objects that can easily be carried. With their new beasts of burden however, they seem much more inclined to trade for heavier things.

There are beads and furs from strange beasts; salt-smelling and delicate shells from an ocean so far away that you know it only from the most aged of the elders stories. Fine stonework tools and weapons and even dots of a strange stone that glitters like fire when held up to the light, alongside small, dull crystals. The traders will barter for almost anything, it seems, but the more valuable your offering, the more you can get in return.

We're already getting a surplus of food.
Possibly for everyone. We would be better off spending our efforts trying to get our people an irrigation system. After getting the meat to soqed.
Or A place to store our surplus food.
Since both of those things solve future issues that could be an issue. And irrigation could help with providing more food too. Since it will likely increase the yield from the fields.
>>
>>45222001

I don't think irrigation is a tech we can achieve at the moment, at least I don't remember it being listed.
As to your other suggestion, if we are capable of creating a granary that's certanly our next step.

I suggested the field improvement so we could have additional surplus to receive more herders as they come, and we should probablt visit the strangers before winter and start getting their trust again

I say we work on one of these things.

"What you have? What you give?" The trader has a thick accent that you've come to identify as a herder's. It makes haggling awkward, but he certainly knows enough to make an offer. "Lots trade. Much. Good from far, far away. Father-brother-son trade for it, then trade to me!"
The herders must have a more extensive reach than you thought. Beyond the valley, it's likely that they meet up regularly with other groups to trade and mingle. Given their small groups, it would be essential for keeping their blood fresh as well.
"You have good tools," you nod, looking them over, your hands tracing the edges and surfaces where stone was flaked away. "It's smoother than I've seen before..."
"It's a different colour too," Noh tells you. "Our blades are all grey and white. This one's dark red..."
"Is different stone!" the trader nods excitedly. "Hard strong. Keep good edge! Sharp! Rare though. Not find here. Not find anywhere I see."
You catch Noh glancing at the fire-flashing beads and pick one up, rolling it in your hand. It's not stone, or wood, but something different...
"It's like if a fire was turned into stone," mutters Noh. "It's so beautiful."
"Yes, but not always bright," the trader nods, folding his arms and acting line an authority. "Start green. Green stone, far far away. We bring green stone and trade, then other clan make into this. Magic maybe."

"I'll take them," you nod. "I have bone and skins. It was a good hunt. Smoked meat too."
The trader's face falls and he frowns, muttering. "Need much. Food good, but need lots or special trade. Copper rare, also knives."
Your argument and haggling goes back and forth for some time, but trying to get both rare items has you at a disadvantage and you can't afford to offer much, for fear of not having enough for Soqed. In the end, you get no-where with the trader and you're forced to leave empty-handed.
>>
>>45224894
Noh at least looks satisfied. This was the most talkative he's ever been! He seems to enjoy seeing the strange things the traders bring and he listened with great interest as you tried haggling with the stubborn merchant.
"I'm sorry we weren't able to get the fire-stones," you say to him, as you return to your house.
"Copper," he corrects you. "It's okay, da. I just like seeing what they brought. There's so many strange things outside the valley. It's exciting! Maybe we can get the copper another time, if we had something better to trade..." He grows quiet again, thinking and scheming.

Alright, called and writing for the last time tonight.
>>
You start tentatively asking questions of the traders, trying to come off as simply interested in their travels. It takes a little effort, but you finally get a few talking.
You were entirely correct about their network of contacts. The herders make regular contact with at least six other clans that roam the land beyond the valley and they in turn visit two other sites like your village, where people have begun to settle down. One village knows how to turn green rocks into bright copper, while the other lives on the shores of a great sea and fishes and gathers seaweed for food. It doesn't seem that either is particularly more sophisticated than your own village. They build homes in the same style as the herders, with mud and wicker, but their tools are still stone, their food is still simple and their numbers are small; not much more than sixty even in the larger villages. The herders, for their part, only keep to much smaller groups of twenty or so. The band that visits your valley, it seems, is the largest group of nomads by a long way and is expected to split soon.

You're told that not many are interested in the world beyond their immediate villages. So long as the herders trade and bring them wealth, they are content to largely stay at home, making sure their people are fed and safe from ill luck and bad weather.
>>
Just going to catch some shut-eye... I'll be back soon. Christ, it's already tomorrow.

Ok,
Guys do not forget! Bring the sacrifice to Soqeb on late fall and prepare the fedtival at early winter.

Idea: we should research animal domestication for 2 reasons:
1 - to have a more diverse diet
2 - so other people( maybe us or the settled herders) control a part of the food distribution. His monopoly is making him too wealthy and powerful.
>>
>>45228545
It should be faitly easy to dominate domestication since we already domesticated the wolfs and have the settled herders to help us grasp it
>>
>>45228641

Sadly, the trading has been so brisk lately, that the traders simply have run out of their supplies to sell. Their baskets creaking under the weight of what they have bargained out of your village, they pack up and start to go, promising that they will be back next year.

Mesut, of course, came out of the trading very well. His wives are now showing off their bright copper jewelry and his son is especially proud of his new hunting spear, tipped with that smooth, sharp red stone.

It is now late summer. The sun is beating down unrelentingly and even the river has dropped a little.

Investigate something new:
animal domestication
>>
>>45230686

We have to hold a monopoly in this like Mesut has on grain so we can accumulate some wealth for our family too.
With wealth and trade goods it will be easier to bring the other people of the valley to the fold
>>
I guess there's not many people around. Still, I'll try and combine the few votes we have into something.
>>
>>45230995
sounds good
>>
>>45230686
This, maybe ask the settled herders to help us under the condition we keep the knowledge from mesut. If they ask why then the reason is we fear him getting to powerful.
>>
>>45231667
No, please do not. That puts us in a position where we have revealed a power struggle between us and Mesut, which is bad for multiple, obvious reasons, but mainly that we will probably make Mesut extremely pissed, and also demoralize the herders about joining a clan in the middle of a power struggle.
>>
>>45231716
I suppose. I feel though we can make them support our efforts and the sooner the better
>>
The baking sun is fraying everyone's nerves somewhat. No-one wants to consider another year with a bad harvest, to say nothing of the fact that the heat is so oppressive, even Nila's river has dropped. A few of the more nervous villagers actually come to you and ask that offerings be made for Nila, in case the heat is somehow sapping her strength.
Besides the weather, the herders are a little restless, having seen their kin prospering from their life as traders. There's a little talk of leaving the tribe in search of a better life, but it seems unlikely to come to anything.

Mindful of the fact that the herders leaving would stall your plans for unification and also remove the advantages they bring to the village, you decide that the time has come for you to start spreading the practice of domestication and herding to the rest of the clan. You start spending time talking with the herders and endeavoring to learn how best to care for their animals.

>Assistance from the herders gives you 1.5x research points!

It might take some time for you to fully get used to handling goats. Bruises, embarrassment and more than a couple of baths punctuate your time trying to learn how to handle the ornery creatures. It soon becomes apparent that your blindness is even more of a hindrance here, as your touch-sight only seems to anger the vicious little bastards even more.
You do gain some insight into the herders' minds however. They are nothing if not pure stubbornness. One time, as a billygoat once again puts you on your rear, you hear a shout and one of the herders comes running up. Without a moment's hesitation, he seizes the offending goat by the horns and rams his forehead into its, before twisting and flipping it on its back. The beast bleats and kicks, but the herder just pins it there until it ultimately gives in. You might not be cut out for the herding life, it seems, but if you keep trying, maybe you'll get the hang of keeping the foul-tempered beasts in order.

As fall starts to close in, the weather grows slightly cooler, but still rain refuses to come. The tribe is really starting to worry now, as Nila's river shrinks yet further. Even Mesut comes to you and humbly asks that you find out what has weakened Nila so much.

>>45243174
It's cool man, sleep well you've earnt it. Take care of yourself and see you around
>>
Rest well Britfag. Try to find ways to take care of yourself a little better, sleep is important. A lot of things are important to keep our quality of life intact. Eating right, sleeping enough, positive social relationships, a bit of work, a bit of play... a huge part of physical health is taken care of by managing our mental health too.
I know that line, "why do you even like me?" I get stuck thinking it too, I've found myself asking people before, online and face-to-face. I know the kind of worries that inspire those thoughts, although what got you to start thinking that way in the beginning might be different.
After a long time though, I found something that really helps. I saw caught other people thinking and saying it too, "Why do you even like me?" "Why am I worth spending time on to you?" "What do you even see in me?" And you know what? Those people saying that was a sad thing, as it is with you... but those people were also awesome and worth it. They didn't just sort of exist without hurting others more than is normal and that's it. They had moments where those motherfuckers shined. I've been privileged to have plenty of those moments myself, and some of them I never even noticed, while everyone else thought I was just the baddest of asses, the awesomest motherfucker in the room.
I see you do the same, on the regular no less, even with you feeling like shit because you're deprived of sleep and a hundred other important things that keep people in good mental health. I found my way of fighting that feeling off in a big way by seeing people like you. It helped things click for me. It helped me trust all those people who tried (and failed) to remind me that I've got awesome shit about me that makes people want happier when they see me come around, and makes them want to be more like me, even if it's only in that one way.
I hope that when you read this that little detail sorta clicks for you too. Because you have the same effect.

So hey, if one of those moods takes you and you dip out, it's cool with me. I wouldn't have stuck around 20+ threads in if I gave a shit about your erratic update schedule, I'm used to it.

Nila is essential to life in the valley. Without her valley, life here would be nigh-impossible. The thought of what might happen to a god if the very thing it drew its essence from were to be destroyed, rather than simply being slain by mortal means, like your battle with Soqed, is disturbing to say the least. As the clan's shaman, it's your responsibility to tend to the gods when they need you, as well as to call for their blessings. You take up your staff and make ready to leave for the shrine, but as soon as you turn to leave your hut, you find Ebba there, waiting for you with a serious expression. She doesn't say anything; just simply falls in line, following you. Nila is her mother, of course. She, more than anyone, has reason for be concerned. To the rest of the tribe, Nila is an important goddess and her blessing and happiness keeps the clan fed and safe, their thirst sated and their bodies clean; but to Ebba, she is also her mother.

At the small riverside shrine, you make your offerings, laying bread and beads on the altar and praying. Apart from the small, usual offerings you've made here, you've not truly sought Nila's attention since the day you offered her the Fool's Solace. Even with her apparently having forgiven you, you've remained wary and perhaps... Perhaps honestly, you could not forgive yourself? Your motives and thoughts are your own however, as you invoke the river goddess, your daughter beside you. Almost at once, a vision comes to you. For the first time in years, you see Nila, just as you remember her, but pale, drawn and sickly. She beckons to you from far upstream, shown to your mind's eye. "Trym? Please, I need your help. I need you to come to me..." It is only a moment, but the sheer shock of having even a facsimile of sight restored to you, showing you the goddess you once loved, jolts your body and mind.

In the next moment, you're jolted back to your mundane awareness. Already, Ebba is on her feet, tugging at you. "Come on!" she begs, "Da, please! Ma needs us, she needs help! We've got to go now!

>Oh how the tables have turned. If she wants help, she can ask in person
>Of course, if Nila needs help, you'll provide it!
>Maybe this isn't such a good idea...
>You need to prepare first. Whatever this is, it's big. You need to bring more people.

There's not a moment to waste. Ebba is much more energetic than you, so you send her running back to the village to fetch some essentials, while you go on ahead. Your daughter is soon catching you up, a large bag bouncing on her back. Given her usually spacey and aloof nature, her intensity must have moved everyone at once to gather what you'll need so quickly. For all Ebba's haste however, it's still a long way up the valley, to the pool that serves as Nila's home. You have to wonder why it is that she, a Wild God, makes her home in the mortal world. The gods may pass freely between the two, but as far as you're aware, only Nila lives in your world more than she does the Wild.

The pool is shallower than it once was, but still you're greeted by a splashing sound as a playful otter leaps from the water and gambols around your feet, welcoming you back. He doesn't look a day older than when you first saw him either... His spirit must be eternally young. Perhaps in time, he might become a god of the river creatures in his own right, but for now, he is simply another otter. Ebba kneels down and tickles his belly, as you look around for Nila. The pool is oddly deserted, quiet too, as the crashing waterfall that usually feeds it, has been reduced to a meager trickle. Suddenly, you're aware of a presence, but as you reach out for it, you're greeted by the strangest sensation. Your touch-sight passes through the being; there's resistance, but not much. You have to be light, as you explore their features. A woman, it seems, but without a bust to speak of and with a few scales and fins on her body, webbing between her fingers, at her ears and the backs of her calves. Her features are pretty and proportioned at least and she waits until you are familiar with her, before speaking. Her voice is quiet, almost a whisper. "You are Trym? Nila has been waiting for you. I am Sakarya, a spirit in service of Nila."
>>
>>45259557
"Where is the goddess?" you ask, a little taken aback. Nila has servants? Sakarya has a name? Who from? Just the idea of a spirit or person who's only job is to serve another's wishes is strange enough by itself...
"She wished to meet you," Sakarya replies, "But the lack of water has taken its toll on her. She restsnow at the bottom of the pool, to preserve her strength."
Almost at once, you hear Ebba dive into the seemingly-bottomless pool, vanishing from sight. She must be more concerned about her mother than you thought...
"What has caused this?" you ask. "Surely it's not just the heat? It was dry last year and the river didn't drop so."
"I do not know," the servant spirit sighs, looking out over the usually mist-shrouded pool. "The prayers and offerings of your people and others have kept Nila strong even under the hottest sun, but now, the water has stopped flowing and we do not know why. Nila had hoped you would know what to do."

Ebba re-appeared, shaking her head and sending water spraying everywhere off her pale hair. "Mother's safe for now, but she doesn't look well," she informs you. "Being starved of water is hurting her. If it were just the river being stopped, it wouldn't be so bad; there'd still be the same water, but in other places, but something's actually causing it to dry up."
You look up at the waterfall and your eyes narrow. "Probably something in the mountains," you mutter. "Enki's domain. Is he angry at Nila perhaps?"
"I can't think why," Sakarya shrugs, "But it's possible. Will you go and speak with him?"

What will you do?
>This is probably just part of the natural cycle. Nila can't remember that far back before she met you, so this has probably happened before.
>Send Ebba to investigate. You're a little too old and blind to be climbing mountains and she's capable, as well as having an interest in keeping her mother safe.
>Go yourself. This is a task only a shaman can fulfill and Ebba is too young to do it alone. Sure, she's a full woman now, but not fully grown.
>If this is a quarrel between gods, you don't want any of it. Let them sort it out themselves, like reasonable people.

Whether or not we get crushed to death this is going to make a great story.

>Go yourself.
But let's take Ebba with us. She can help us with climbing the mountains and surely will not stand by idly while her mother suffers.

Seconded.
>>
Again, pretty conclusive. I wonder if I'm making these choices too lopsided, as everyone's going for the same thing...

Thing is, now if I sting you, it'll seem like a trap and it's really not meant to be! Well, I'll try and balance things.

We love Nila, even if she no longer holds that kind of love for us.

"Ebba, let's go," you nod, gripping your staff grimly and making for the shallowest slope you can readily see.
"Where even are we going?" your daughter asks, hopping behind you. "To look for Enki? Won't he be in the Wild?"
"I don't know how to enter the Wild though," you explain. "I could pray and call to him here, but I don't want to call him up in a place that's clearly special to your mother." A thought occurs to you and you look back at Ebba, who tilts her head slightly, blinking those beautiful, watery amber eyes up at you. "Are you sure you want to come?" you ask, "This is going to be dangerous. Enki is very strong, if he's angry and we'll be in the heart of his power. You could stay here with your mother and help her recover?"
"If we don't restore the water, Ma will die anyway," Ebba says flat-out. Living in a world where everyone regularly encounters bodily danger on a regular basis, there's little enough fear of death in your, or any people. Even someone as young as Ebba is used to the threats around her and takes something like striding brazenly into the domain of a potentially angry god in her stride.

The pair of you climb into the mountains. After the initial struggle up from the steep walls surrounding Nila's pool, the travel is a little easier. The terrain is rocky and steep, but not nearly so sheer; you can actually walk, rather than climb. You have a vague idea of your destination at least; if you can find a sacred place, like the grove back home, it should be easy to call out to Enki. In theory, you could call him anywhere, but the god of the mountains is a very conservative and sedentary figure. You find it unlikely that he'll move far, or fast to meet you. As it turns out however, that is un-necessary.
>>
>>45262080
One night, as the pair of you are looking for shelter, the rumble and crash of thunder overhead draws your attention. Storms in the mountains can spell doom for travelers within minutes, but flash floods, or powerful winds. You grab Ebba's hand and make haste for higher ground, but even as you do so, you hear a bellowing voice. You can discern no words, but as you look up, you see Enki's form, grown to massive proportions, swinging boulder-fists at a bank of black clouds. Lightning lashes at the god, as he tears a crag of rock free from the mountain and hurls it into the stormy sky. You and your daughter watch in awe, as the god swats and lunges at thin air, before, finally, the storm dissipates with a final crack and flash of lightning and you swear you hear the sound of an angry snarl, as the clouds seem to flee. Enki himself shrinks before your eyes, rock and stone and earth falling away and leaving him small once again, standing hunched on the ridgeline. He looks a little more human than he did before - less like a walking boulder. Yet all the same, you think he looks scarred and haggard. As you watch, he turns and ambles away, still leaning heavily on his knuckles.

What will you do?
>Investigate where the battle took place
>Call out to Enki
>Pursue the god and try to catch up to talk to him
>Quietly tail Enki and see where he goes
>>
>>45262444
>Call out to Enki

I am beginning to think that the gods of the wild may be under attack from the gods of the sacred heavens, that or this is some other threat to all of them.

I think we need to know a little more about what just happened before we go catching Enki's attention.

Votes called! See? I actually CAN run a thread relatively briskly!

...Relatively.
>>
Relatively... Also, I have forgotten how my old combat system even worked.

You stand and call out to the mountain god, raising your staff in the air. The mountain god turns with surprising speed and smashes a fist down with a roar. The slope you're on trembles and shakes, sending Ebba tumbling down amid a shower of stones and dirt. You lunge forward, grabbing her with magic and hands both, but the movement only causes you to lose your footing, sending you falling after her. You pull your daughter in close, shielding her with your body as you both bounce and tumble down the steep side of the mountain. Your daughter is kept mostly safe in your arms, but you feel the unyielding earth batter your body, bruising you as you bounce off stones and the rolling terrain.

Looks like Enki was a little jumpy. Odd... Whatever's got him riled up, it must have him VERY angry indeed.

Aaand we'll see what damage Trym has sustained... Next time! I hope you all enjoyed the thread, but that is it for tonight and until Monday. I won't be bumping this with gameplay any more, but I may answer any questions I see pop up.

Until then, thank you all very much for playing and stay safe. Good night!

Why the name change?

That would be because I'm posting in planefag's thread too... I figured it made more sense, considering it's a Kantai Collection quest...

And I wouldn't use a name at all, if not for the fact that I actually contribute writefaggotry there. Sometimes... Not for a while. I need to get back to that.
