The completion of the grain store is long awaited and now that the planting has finished, you have plenty of willing hands to help you finish. The floor is a little thick to drill holes in in the same manner you prepare something smaller, so instead, sticks are sunk into the ground and woven once they are at the same height as the floor. Logs leaned against the outside of the oblong structure give it a great deal of strength, as mud daubed on the wicker frame makes it proof against the weather. A thick roof of straw thatch is added and Mesut soon oversees moving the village's grain inside, stored in woven wicker baskets.

>Your capacity to store grain has been doubled to 80!

With the remainder of the month, you spend your time eagerly selling the tribe on the idea of a great temple to the gods of the wild, telling them that it will surely bring blessings upon the entire village as the gods are pleased by their labour. The sheer scale of your proposed undertaking leaves many stunned and Mesut in particular points out just how much work and resources it will take to make anything close to what you're proposing, when there's so much more that could be done for the village! Never the less, the groundwork has been laid, while not physically, at least in people's minds; the place it matters most.

so it gives us a special tingling of the nipples.. Cool. We should also find a name for our tribe tho... I've got no ideas dudes

A fair point, here are some ideas

The "golden valley" tribe, like the colour of our wheat

The "golden river" tribe, we live on the river and gold is best colour

The "Anonymi" or some shit

Wolf Tribe? The holy man killed the wolf god, then tamed the wolves and became their alpha. The traders could be Goat tribe, fir obvious reasons. The strangers could be Mammoth tribe, because they use the tusks fir their house.
>>
>>45641243
But gold is the best colour, so we must include it in our name. Kidding but i feel a name should come form events not from a vote.

Another point our people lack a national identity; they have a fear of outsiders but lack a common concept to link them besides family

The tribe seems to be warming up to the idea of the great temple. It might be helping that you've started to sell them on the idea of something that will last longer than them. Paku in particular is on your side, grinding away at Mesut to try and lend his impressive influence to support you. Most of the resistance simply comes from level heads that realise how much effort building something as big as you describe is going to be. If the gods can be appeased by just sacrifices and offerings, why go to all the trouble, after all? Apart from that, there's few if any real troubles. The tribe is fed, they've started to get used to the presence of the herders and all is well. The only real complaint is that having goats around so much now is starting to smell somewhat, but the easy access to meat quells any complaints.

Think I fell asleep there... I just... Sat stock-still for 45 minutes...

The smell may be tolerable, but it's still unpleasant... And something nags at your mind; the rotten stench of a long-dead animal... Smells like that mean death and not always confined to just the thing making it. Better to keep the goats contained and kept where their smell can't harm anyone. Even if the tribe gives you odd looks as you mutter about smells causing sickness, none of them particularly like the smell of goat around (even the herders), so they ably assist in building the pens and setting aside land for the goats to graze, in addition to being fed from the grain stocks. The greater organisation helps your village honestly feel like one now, with the animals separate from the people.

The dogs get special treatment because they at least understand how a pack works and to them, you're just a bigger, two-legged pack.

It is now late summer. The traders will be gone soon. What will you do?

You want the truth? Are you sure?

I pull numbers out of my ass, depending on what you research and do. Labour points are effected by tools, manpower and resources, but mainly by sheer organisation. There's not much you can do if all you've got is unskilled labour that helps when it wants to and slacks off when it pleases.
>>
>>45644453

Is there anyone in the village that is good with construction? Someone the other families turn to to help with their houses? Because with a project as ambitious as the Temple going over the plans first and then building it will help (maybe he can even draw the plans up)
>>
>>45644622
Your tribe doesn't really have a tradition of building things. Both the strangers and the nomads (oddly) have been building permanent homes longer than you have. It's just not really caught on hugely enough for someone to gain expertise at it.

Crafting god
>>
The construction of the temple will require expertise beyond anything your humble village has and without years of slow practice and improvement that you no longer have. There's only one place then to turn to for help; the gods. Construction and building isn't really something you could expect the wild gods to assist you with, even if the temple is to be in their honour. Animals build nothing except their dens, but humans are another matter and the gods of the Sacred Heavens are apparently very much tied to humanity and their ideals.

You make the lonely trek up the hillside, towards the sacred site. At least in summer, it's far more enjoyable. The scent of wiild flowers and the faint buzzing of bees fills your senses, as the long grasses brush at your ankles. Even before you reach the sacred space where the Heavens are closest to the world, this place gives you a sense of peace. You should find a name for it at some point...

The awareness of the Sacred Heavens falls over you as you gain the summit and kneel before the sight of the gods. You're acutely aware how little you truly know of the gods, their realm and their nature, but you are the godspeaker, the shaman for your tribe and no-one else can do what you do.

You plant your staff before you and turn your sightless gaze upwards, letting your mind and magic reach out and place you in that half-aware state where you are not entirely in one realm or the other. "Gods of the Sacred Heavens, hear my plea," you intone, "My people wish to build and create, to make of ourselves more than simple survivors. We wish to make what will stand through time and be remembered. We lack the knowledge, we lack the strength. O gods of the Sacred Heavens, if you care for us, if there is one among you who would help us build and create, I beg you to come forth and guide us."
>>
>>45654099
It's a good thing you brought food and water with you, as you are up on that ridge for days, the hours occupied with little but prayer and pleas to the gods. You can't say you didn't expect this somewhat however. Rhea may have come to you easily, but she was the first of the Heavenly Gods, when they were still new and unsure what and who you were, much like how you met with Nila. Now they are aware and have made clear what they require of you, a display of your piety is required. Finally, as midsummer approaches, you feel something change in the air around you.

The heavy beat of wings sends wind gusting past your face and solid footfalls portend that you are no longer alone. A slow, deep and quiet voice speaks. You cannot make out their form, as like always, your feeble touch-sight is deflected by the god's nature, but they sound powerfully or at least solidly built.
"I have answered your call, godspeaker. I am diligence and labour, the god of all things that man builds to stand the test of time. No mere hands to shape stone for tools are mine, but those that raise up wood and rock and earth into a home, a temple and greater works you yet know not of. Speak my name."

Yes but Rhea is not actually the first time we pulled out a latin name, Ursa is the name for the bear god after all. The common thing we have with the names for gods, at least the ones we named, is that they rarely have consonants and are usually two or three vowels long

"Ummani." The name fits and rolls from your mouth almost before you even realise it. "Ummani the Builder and Great Shaper, god of Labour."
"It is a good name," Ummani returns, nodding. "I have answered your call, Trym the godspeaker and I know what you would ask of me. To ask the assistance of heaven for the sake of the Wild Gods when we remain un-honoured..." He sighs and shakes his head disappointingly. "I will assist you, but in return, you give the gods of the sacred heavens what they are due and raise a temple also on this site. Then I shall hear the prayers of those who seek strength and diligent endurance for the tasks they will undertake. I shall inspire those who plan and design for the future, for I am the patron of builders."

It has now become early fall. The traders have left with the nomads and your village is once again, a little more empty.
