Cable Guy: “This is it: The Guye Co. raid. Between Dvorak’s intel and Tradegy’s recon we’ve got a pretty good overview of what’s going on. The facility itself is actually a private distillery that produces hard liquor to Haxton Guye’s exacting standards. The distillery is guarded by an elite Guye Co. mecha squad consisting of it’s signature mecha: a batman, wimp and pugilist. Now the pugilist is not an ordinary one; it’s actually a custom experimental model known as the Puglist-X. The intel department tells me that it was actually a test bed for a lot of stuff that would eventually be toned down to make the production model. This means that it’s capabilities exceed a normal pugilist’s, Tragedy got a lot of pictures but we can only figure out so much about what it’s packing. It seems to have reactive armour, extra punching arms and a pair of power fists that definitely aren’t the standard model. There are also rumours that it has some kind of long ranged attack, but I have no idea what that might be since I can’t see any kind of sniper weapon on it. To make matters worse the person piloting it is a Battle Operations Savant Specialist aka a B.O.S.S. B.O.S.S’s are rare individuals that can learn a much greater collection of pilot skills than normal, they have the mental flexibility to make use of skills from multiple classes, maybe even come up with some unique ones of their own. Normal limitations don’t apply to them so stay on your toes.”

“The Mecha Squad is backed up by the distillery’s regular defence force which consists of mega cavalry. You know how everyone in Merika has the right to bear arms? Well Haxton Guye has the right to arm bears; he has a cavalry unit of armored mega bears equipped with recoilless rifles. It’s ridiculous I know but so are a lot of things about Guye Co.”

“Last but not least is the terrain. I had always hoped I’d never have to come back to this miserable country but here we are. Now this is Merikan suburbia we’re talking about. Merikan’s take property rights very seriously, if you own a piece of land you can pretty much do what you want on it. To a Merikan life is cheap and property is sacred. In case you didn’t catch my drift that means there’s a chance the locals will take pot shots at you if you step on their lawns and for fucks sake don’t cut across them if you end up having to bail out. If you want to avoid that then stick to the roads. I know this will limit your movement options but it’s something to consider. Those brown boxes surrounded by the white lines are your stereotypical suburban homes surrounded by white picket fences. The fences are no obstacle but the houses do block line of sight. If you’re desperate you can just walk right through a house but that’ll piss off the residents as well as count as difficult terrain. Those larger houses surrounded by the thick grey boxes are walled mansions. Both the wall and the mansion block LoS and movement. Now mansion owners are rich bastards so if you piss them off there’s a higher chance they’ll be packing something big enough to give you serious grief.”

“Guye Co. did something to seriously piss off Dvorak a while back so he wants their shit thoroughly wrecked. Your objectives are to destroy the distillery, the Puglist-X and wipe out the Mega-Bear unit on site. Dvorak will give us the Cognis intel if we complete just one objective but there’ll be a cred bonus for each additional target we eliminate. Oh, for the distillery you can just shoot at it, but it’ll go down faster if you use a weapon with the demolisher attribute. No doubt I’ve given you guys a lot to think about so I’ll let you get to planning.”

(kestrel visibly pales during the briefing. The sheer concept of how the 'right to bear arms' can cause the current limitations was baffling, which felt very... off, compared to how it went on in the homeland. And to top it off, the elite pilot was something never seen before, and will be charging with the intention to smash the 3C's mechs with the assistance of a custom supermech. However there was a job to be done, and kestrel knew that the Predator's Railgun, especially with the addition of stiletto targeting suite was one of the best options against the Super Pugilist within the ranks of 3C, which was the primary reason for volunteering on this mission. No turning back.)

I was able to equip the drone with HV ammo mission. and I believe I had approval for it, something like 'use up one ammo item per drone'. hold on, let me find it in the archives.
FYI, I made some mistakes with info, so I've deleted my post and reposting.

huh. I swear I saw something along the lines of that conversation in the hangar threads, but apparently not. I'll fix the mistake when I post stats again.

HOLD ON. does this mean the Combat drone in the previous mission didn't benefit from the ammo's +2 range effect? if so, can I have a stock of HV rounds back?

Armed, armored bear riders with bazookas packed up by punching perfected pugilists piloted by prodigy, surrounded by hostile workers armed with their own weaponry all defending the one thing they care about the most; the sweet river of flowing alcohol. So we can assume our opposition today is motivated, entrenched, heavily armed and competent.

But Mr. Kerry!

Whatever will we do *after* our pre-lunch warm up?

If we plonk the Pioneers down in front of Alpha, they'll get wrecked.
If we plonk them down behind Alpha, they'll be mission inoperable given our target and engagement range.

I suggest we bypass the Pioneers for this mission.

I'll be in Alpha myself. Against heavily armed foes like GuyeCo troops, defenses are a little less important than overwhelming firepower - so bring your best boom, kids. Kail, I'd like you to turn their OS into scrap. Maybe put a 3C special wallpaper up on all their servers? Hehehe. I'll do interference, as usual.

Advancing up the narrow streets will be a bit difficult without harming people's lawns, and let's try not to step om their grass. After all, we weren't paid to do domestic re-decoration.

Alice, those are people's homes. You are not being paid to destroy them.

You're not going to destroy them.

GuyeCo's troopers can't enter those properties either, so since they rely on getting up close and in your face the terrain is worse for them than for us.

And since *we* won't be firing at people's houses, any artillery the other side has is nullified for as long as we're in cover because of the structures. 'Cause GuyeCo's Goons ain't going to start shooting at their own workers. You'd never hear the end of it. The Union would be up in arms.
This being Merika, I mean that a bit literally. I hear the Union is aso the explosive ordnance fanclub.

If any of you pilots wreck some of the residential buildings, I expect you to damn well apologize over the PA, handle the insurance paperwork *and* pay for reconstruction effort.

>I'm not sure how hostile they're going to be from the start, but backing up and letting the Guye Co mechs come to us while we level the building complexes around us may save us some trouble
>Save us some trouble
Alice, I know you want to be taken seriously as a mercenary badass, but creating more hostiles for yourself isn't pragmatic, it's foolish. Kerry grew up here, he told us we're unlikely to have to deal with much if any local colour unless we either trespass on or damage their property.

>I'm not sure how hostile they're going to be from the start
If I know Murikans, they'll probably kick back on their porches and watch. Show like this doesn't happen every day y'know.

I think it should be fairly evident that we make every effort to avoid collateral if for no other reason than because it makes things a lot easier for us.

>>48453333
On that note, Chuck, careful withthose juggernaut mods. Under only the most desperate circumstances should you employ them against anything but the Guye Co. walls. As fucking amazing as it'd be to see you charge in one side of a suburban home and out the other we really can't afford the extra headache.

>>48452857
It occurs to me in light of the map reveal that Tragedy's recon was likely done from inside some suburbanite's shrubbery, and I find this really amusing for some reason.
>>
A thought occurs. If we want to stand a chance against Guye Co, we'll have to mass firepower, which makes me reluctant to have everyone split between three zones. And the trouble with Charlie is that the only way out just leads back onto the street Alpha will be advancing up, only slower. And we don't want to crowd any area up too much because space is tight.

Cable Guy:"The civilians are a major wildcard, of course if the enemy smashes through their property they'll fight back and after that's done they may well start firing at any other perceived threat, like us. Or they might return to their homes, who knows? They're a bunch of paranoid homeowners, they don't have SOP or rules of engagement. There's no telling what they'll do when roused to fight."

>Drones with ammo upgrades
I was the one who asked the question (in regard to combat drone smartguns and Depleted Uranium ammo), though it might have been in IRC. The answer was definitely yes, and I seem to remember one set of ammo being enough for both drones (since one set is enough for one mech, no matter the number of guns).

>>48465075
I added Tem to the list as a courtesy, mostly after hearing Hetros wouldn't be re-spawning in time for this mission. There have been frequent long gaps between their posts in the past.

I suggest giving their place to one of the other available veterans. I'd volunteer myself, but I've already gone on a mission this cycle and my connection is very come-and-go.
>>
>>48465507
>I suggest giving their place to one of the other available veterans
Yeah, we could bump someone up from the next mission, since there were a couple of prospective new rookies sniffing around earlier. Hopefully one of them could sign up in time for the next mission if we go that route.
>>
>>48465507
>muh drones!
Fine. I'll make it as you say and record it in the errata so I don't forget.

>>48465507
>>48465548
If Tem doesn't show up feel free to bot him or replace him with whoever is willing, just not someone who has already undertaken a previous mission during this campaign turn. If I set a precedent for that there's all sorts of shenanigans that can happen.

I'm doing other stuff today so deployment will begin tomorrow morning for me.

what. I thought it only applied to one drone per ammo unit.

He seems to have two free torso slots. Since the company has a HK missile lying around doing nothing, recommend whoever bots him mounts it up.
>>
>>48467045
Has the company got a spare Stilleto as well? If so, Ill use both for the remaining two slots.
>>
>>48467030
Says right on his sheet. He's a rookie combat tech, so all he has is Fortified Systems. Gives him a free redundant system and increases his E-defence. The latter isn't much use against Guye Co though.

Also, a piece of advice. Guye Co. just plain doesn't do range, and Exo Terra longbow missiles are one of the longest range weapons in the game. If I were you I'd abuse the active scanner to get certain hits with those missiles from a safe distance. The scanner lowers your own E-defence, but I really don't see Guye Co. doing much hacking or locking, they're not built for it.

Also note that the mech starts in stealth because of its camo plating.
>>
>>48467070
>Has the company got a spare Stilleto as well?
It doesn't, but I checked one out and upon consideration I think you'll probably get more use out of it than me (it's easier to crit with a missile than a beam weapon).

Not authorizing the transfer of an item to a pilot that's
a) not present
b) hasn't personally signed up
c) is being botted by someone else
d) has the item in question being asked for by someone else
e) has that item added to their mech in an unauthorized manner
f) Has no requested the deployment, the item, allowed the mech-hand over or signed off on being controlled by someone else.

Not. Happening. You don't get to control people who aren't here and haven't given their permission for any of that.

If Pilot Tem doesn't show, they don't show. Sometimes you get busy on some other project. Like watering your daisies or binge-watching IF news broadcasts and taking a drink every time the announcer says "international incident".

If someone /else/ wants to step up in their /own/ mech I will happily duct-tape this Stiletto system to that mech myself.

And if that's not possible, we go as 9. It's not a loss.
>>
>>48467443
Sure np. I would do it in my mech, but Im way too underpowered for this, since Im in a Cobra without stealth. See you guys on the next mission then.
>>
>>48467468
Well we do have this nice Cirrus in storage and there are people out there with replacement mechs of their own you could - perhaps - loan if asked.

Secondly, I'm not sure a cobra without stealth is really unfit for this. Another gun is another gun is another gun. It has a beauty all of its own. Could always tag along and stay behind Chuck.

That's my winning strategy for 99% of all engagements.
>>
>>48467443
I was udner the mistaken impression Tem had registered for this mission, so in light of this I do agree that it's not on to bring along someone's character without their permission, no matter how much of a disadvantage it may cause, it'd be a dick move.

Although...
>It's not a loss
Not yet. Let the super pug have a few swings first. There's a very real possibility someone will die here. If we have to go undermanned then we have to go, combat isn't so convenient as to let you stack the deck every time and we just have to deal how we can.

>>48467468
>>48467484
>Another gun is another gun is another gun.
Agreed, though...
>Could always tag along and stay behind Chuck
Chuck is in the middle where all the carnage is going to go down. Might not want to bring a Cobra into that. If you want to deploy I'd recommend Bravo with me and Izzy, we're out of the mech's immediate warpath and expect to mostly be fighting Mega bears, which are more our speed. Let the elites handle the mechs.
>>
>>48467502

We should be in the clear for now, but I'd appreciate your shield up front if things get hairy. Which it likely will in both ways once that bear cavalry comes running out.

Also Command, is the Jump ability from Jump Jets/Thruster Arrays enough to get over those thick walls around the mansions and facility?

If not, well, we got a demo charge with us on the left flank. If it comes to it we can just blow a hole through so we don't have to run through the killzone at the front entrance.
>>
>>48481499
> I'd appreciate your shield up front if things get hairy
I'll move up as fast as I can, but if enemies show it might be better if you fall in to the side of me ormove at my pace to keep me in front. Either that or start in front of me so that you can take your shots then retreat with your next action.

>is the Jump ability from Jump Jets/Thruster Arrays enough to get over those thick walls
Jump jets can allow passage through basically any terrain tiles, the only exception thus far has been the mountains in the Midas Range. You would however not be able to clear the whole property in one jump action, it's too wide.

>so we don't have to run through the killzone at the front entrance.
We'll see if it comes to that, but it's worth noting that for the biggest payout we pretty much have to destroy everything anyway, so methodically advancing while fighting might be best.

>If it comes to it we can just blow a hole through
Bear in mind I could only blow one wall, since I only have one charge.
>>
Oh yeah, two things I forgot to ask, what happens if a mech takes 5 crit damage to a leg or an arm? I noticed that a Dual MP with HESH could potentially do 6 crit per fire action, so asking just in case.

and secondly, Recon drones jumping onto those thick walls on the mansion. they won't be noticed, right? since they are still in stealth even if they fly.

>>48480553
(are there actually civilians around? I don't see any, except houses.)

Nope. Like Command says, recon drones are special.

>>48481700
I'm imagining you kill the ever living fuck out of the arm as it falls off and then kill it some more as it hits the ground, making it dance while its owner cries like a kid who just got bullied out of his lunch money. If that's actually the case, I'd imagine you'd be terribly unlucky with the dice rolls on location but I'm just speculating.
I do wonder what HESH does to the block of meat that is megafauna.

The civvies probably beat feet into their homes once they saw a bunch of mechs drop in looking very much like they want trouble. It's interesting there aren't any cars on the streets either actually.
>>
>>48481897
You're in Merika, everyone keeps their urban assault vehicles in their garage.
And I imagine there's some traffic redirection going on outside of the operational area.
>>
>>48481884
(hold on, this is merika, and those are rich guys who are also protective of their land, right? they might have something fancy and costly that can even detect cloaked objects sneaking across their walls. I'm not going to risk it.)

(crud. I forgot to scan this turn with the Recon Drone to find landmines in the frontyards.)

>>48481897
I was asking with the intention of how it worked crunch wise. like, does getting your mech's legs pulverized reduce your mobility? does getting your arm blown off prevent the use of bash?

>>48482062
"urban assault... what?"
"you know what. I don't even understand anymore, nothing makes sense. I should just execute orders and ignore everything else wrong with this place."

> What happens if a mech takes 5 crit damage to a leg or an arm?

The part is destroyed. If it's an arm then you've just lost the arm and everything on it. If it's your legs then your mobility is reduced to 1.

Excess crit damage is transferred inward to your torso battletech style.

Cable Guy: "Merika combines the worst aspects of Wessen and Norden Nevik, namely the worship of a completely unregulated free market and notion that the less fortunate deserve what they get. On paper it was supposed to be that everyone respected each other's rights without government coercion, in reality a lack of overarching authority meant that you can shoot anybody if you feel like it and corporations shit on everybody. Izzy is faster than me, but she's also closer, she needs to run as well to get out of reach.

[Spoiler]If you tag it with the railgun I might just be able to finish it the turn after, since reactive armour only has 2 DR against beams, meaning I could do 12 damage max.

Can you run downwards and towards us?If you manage to run down, along with Izzy I can take position to overwatch-redline the superpug as it rounds the corner. if it busts through the mansion, I can still see it and take the shot. just running downwards helps, especially since it would allow me to shoot it without shooting through a rich and agressive family's house.
>>
>>48484257
Should I redline this to guarantee Crit on the overwatch shot. Im gonna back up 2 spaces so Im exactly ten from the corner.
>>
>>48484360
No, you shouldn't. You can't actually damage it because it has full reactive armour, which means you also can't do crit damage. All you can do is strip off a layer of its armour, which is better than nothing. Also, I'd take your full move. You may well need the added distance next turn, and you need distance way more than we need chip damage.

Spare, let me just show you some numbers.

>Power fist damage 10
>2 power fist attacks in a charge
>2 free extra punching arm attacks, 5 damage each
>5 bonus damage to each attack for charging full movement distance

Potential damage in one charge, 50. More if he has Point Blank. If he gets to attack any one of us we will die, no question, even if he misses an attack or two there's just too much raw damage. Additionally his armour ensures he cannot be quickly killed on our turn before he can act. Alice and Izzy need crits, which it's armour can mitigate, and it's own return attacks are instant death.

>you'd run away and leave your friends to *die*
I'm not leaving anyone anywhere. Nyx is out of range and safe, Izzy will be too if she has any sense and Alice is invisible. The only one the thing can ever catch is me.

Now, I'm going to do my best to lead this thing into Kestral's line of fire. You want to chew me out for not standing still and dying like a fucking idiot without actually accomplishing anything you can wait till we're done here. Or do I need to remind you that Wechuge died because he did exactly what you just advocated?
>>
>>48486191
Sir, no offense, but the Super Pug isn't running directly towards you, and isn't going to be for a while, its got too many bears in the way. Since it can destroy any of our mechs in a single swing, maybe letting us lure it into a trap is better than blowing all our mechs up in a death or glory charge.

>>48486391

Those numbers and line of thought are meaningless. There has been something 'potentially one-shot' or has actually one shot us in every mission so far.

Next, we could of easily taken the SuperPug but wearing down that reactive armour then either myself or Izzy coming in with redline crit.

Easy to say when you're invisible.

I'd bet you anything the B.O.S.S has fortified systems, which would interfere with the crit plan. Additionally, even if all three of us had shot it we still wouldn't have been able to take down the armour and the redundant system it almost certainly has in just one turn.
>>
>>48486391
And? Are you somehow expecting to survive? You're fighting an experimental mecha unit piloted by a prodigy who can out-think and out-shoot you, on their its own turf, backed up by its own guards.

Of course it can kill you with a single hit. They always can. That's how these sort of things work. It's always overwhelming amounts of direct firepower that can wipe you off of the face of the planet in an instant. It's a standard Tuesday. It's always something.

Which is why you shoot it before that sort of annoying eventuality occurs, relying on your teammates to properly back you up.

Now what you should have done is shot it, and then relied on me to shut it down so it cannot actually charge you, this group to distract the bear firepower and Izzy and Alice to handle the armor after you dented the reactive set.

Instead, by creating more space, you're giving the unit time to build up momentum, ensuring it will destroy you with a more dangerous strike outside of an area where your teammates can back you up reliably since there is - I point out - a very looking manor in the way. Good architecture design there, very fancy.

Spare, even with one action it can charge 6. The range of my gun is 6, as is the range of your jammer. It would have been in charge range of me and will be in charge range of you unless someone hacks it's motive systems. And with its armour there is flat out no way we were killing it in one turn.

Batman was reduced to one action by jammer, and then again by EMP shock but that doesn't stack otherwise it would be a perpetual stun lock. So he has one action, he uses it to bash chuck. Elite Combat tech, so auto recover at the end of turn.

Wimp was jammed, so only one action, said action was used to fire his bullet hose. One shot went wide and scattered, so it wasn't a double shot. (He could have pulled it off though since he's an elite gunner with alpha strike.)

If people are gunna redline it for crits I advise you to go last with your gamma guns if you plan to use them, that way any redundant systems it might have get blown on their attacks, leaving you a wide open crit to their torso, odds are it's got more than 5 crit points, however so if your redlined gamma-gun is the only hit to crit it's way through then...the Pug may not drop and your 1 hp mech will be pulped with you in it.

You use your recovery action to recover, and this removes the EMP shock (or the hack, or...)

Your action is spent. You had 1 action. Your turn is over.

It's what makes Auto-Recovery a fairly useful skill, and what makes EMP Shock which is on a good amount of weapons something that's remarkably terrible to fight.

Hey, Izzy. Hopefully I've been able to make up for my uncomely tactical withdrawal with my actions as a secret member of TimeWatch. They can never know...
>>
So, for everyone else in front of the Pug, what I was intending to do was move up and redline vigilance overwatch, since that would allow me to get two laser shots off, at a total of +15, and if every shot hit then suppression would reduce all the Pugilist's rolls by 6, and deal 12 damage while removing 2 armour uses. Thing is, I can only do this much damage on overwatch, so if anyone was wanting me to strip the armour off for them they'll have to overwatch this turn too, and specify that they were going right after me.

Though if Nyx takes a shot, then Alice takes a cough gun shot, then overwatch cockpit redlines with her canister gun and THEN Izzy does the same with her gamma emitter we might just be able to pull this off.

Izzy, I feel I should point out that your gamma emitter is classed as an exponential beam weapon and can thus actually do regular damage through the armour.

Not that it really matters at this stage. If he takes the bait and goes after any of us he's in for a world of hurt. And after that it's just cleanup. I've done everything I can to stack the deck in our favour, between Kail's hack and my suppression he should be at -8 to hit. But if he gets me anyway, I want you to fry him for me.
