Alright /tg/, let's have some random tables fun. We'll be making a Chaos Space Marine warband using the Marine-dedicated chart.

https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Chaos_Space_Marine_Warband_Creation_Tables

Roll the dice and let's see what happens. Pray for the favor of the Dark Gods!
>>
Rolled 10 (1d10)

>>
>>49509632
Legion warband! Before we know which legion roll a d100 to see who's intertwined with our warband.
>>
Rolled 45 (1d100)

>>49509675
Cmon something good
>>
>>49509714
We've got our own Chaos Cult! Hopefully we don't lose it later on the devotion table.

Alright, d100 to see what legion we're from!
>>
Rolled 42 (1d100)

>>49509822
>>
>>49510214
Iron Warriors, nice, my favorite!

Alright, let's check our devotion to the Ruinous Powers. Be prepared to roll another d100 after this for our ally in case it comes out as "Loathed".
>>
Rolled 3 (1d10)

>>49510280
>>
>>49510387
Neutral. So we're sticking with the classic Iron Warriors theme. They're non-devout, and have a large supply of Flesh for support.
>>
Rolled 2 (1d12)

>>49510408
>>
>>49510434
Chaos Undivided! REALLY strongly vanilla IW.
Alright, d100, let's see if we get something interesting.
>>
Rolled 18 (1d100)

>>49510533
>>
Rolled 45 (1d100)

>>49510533
>>
>>49510552
18 showed up first. So they hold the gods above all, though given their neutrality I'd imagine it's more of a realization of their power rather than true devotion.
d10!
>>
Rolled 9 (1d10)

>>49510672
>>
>>49510733
Now THAT'S interesting! Honor Among Thieves may be why they're not TRUE Iron Warriors.
Alright, let's see what the common mutations are.
>>
Rolled 5 (1d10)

>>49510765
>>
>>49510793
Voice of evil.
d100
>>
Rolled 65 (1d100)

>>49510827
>>
>>49510839
A champion! Maybe he was a hero magnificent enough to warrant a following.
But what did he do?
>>
Rolled 90 (1d100)

>>49510926
>>
>>49510940
Dunno what happened to OP, but I guess I'll take over.

>A fearsome champion of the Dark Gods, the figure ascended and became a Daemon Prince. He used his new power to crush all who opposed the Warband at the time. Re-roll if your Warband's devotion to chaos is "Loathed".

Holy fuck! We got kicked out of Perturabo's clubhouse so one of our own said fuck this shit and went on to ascend to daemon princehood?

D100 for homeworld

>Uluméathic League
Literally who?

Give me a sec to summarize.
>>
>>49511673
minor is right. Aren't these guys all wiped out?
>>
>>49511688
>The Uluméathic are a race of aliens that form part of the Uluméathic League, a fledgling empire that had, before their encounter with the Tyranids, begun to encroach on Imperial space. The worlds of the Uluméathic League would be ravaged by the Tyranid Hive Fleet Naga. Beginning its invasion in 801.M41, the Uluméathic outer colonies were devoured in a matter of days while Genestealers managed to stowaway on fleeing refugee ships, leading to a Genestealer infestation on the Varryean Space Docks. In 809.M41, the throne world of the Uluméathic League was devoured by the advancing Tyranids and the remaining Uluméathi worlds declared a state of quarantine. Fortunately for the Uluméathi, Eldar forces from the Malan'tai, Iyanden, and Idharae Craftworlds managed to destroy the Hive Fleet by 812.M41. In light of the devastation suffered by the Uluméathic League it is unlikely they will pose anywhere near the same threat that they did before the arrival of the Hive Fleet. Indeed, it seems humanity considers the Ulumeathic all but destroyed by the end of the 41st Millennium.

Sounds like it.
>>
>>49511688
They lost their colonies and seat of government, but keep in mind that on the 40k scale, "all wiped out," could still mean control of a few star systems.
>>
>>49511769
>>49511787
So this warband probably rolled through whatever systems they have left doing their usual thing, and the Ulumeathic swore eternal vengeance on a bunch of guys who've completely forgotten about it and couldn't give less of a shit?
>>
>Organization
Legion warband with cultists

>Which legion?
Iron warriors

>Who do we worship and how much?
Neutral devotion to Chaos undivided

>Our beliefs?
Gods above all

>Our demeanor?
Honor among thieves

>Mutations?
Voices of evil

>Any notable figures?
A chaos champion who ascended to daemon princehood

>Homeworld?
Fleet based

>Combat doctrine?
Unorthodox warfare

>Special equipment?
Biological experiments

>Warband status?
Slightly under strength

>Why?
A part of the Warband was assimilated by or was attacked by another Chaos-aligned entity.

>Who likes us?
Another chaos warband or lord

>Who are our enemies?
An Ork WAAAAAGH/warboss

>What about minor Xenos?
Some possibly exitinct Ayyyyylmaos AKA the Uluméathic League
>>
>>49511833
That'd be pretty funny, but they also work as a local threat. The warband can rely on Imperial bureaucratic inertia and corruption to help shield their activities but the Ulumeathic are far more pro-active.
>>
>>49511921
Maybe we kidnapped a couple to fuck with our biological experiments? With the unorthodox warfare thing we could have bodysnatcher marines.
>>
>>49511891
So I'm getting the impression that these guys probably soup up their cannon-fodder cultists with all kinds of crazy biological upgrades and use them for unusual strategies, while reserving technological upgrades for themselves, Iron Warrior style.
Or they got kicked out of the Iron Warriors in part because they started doing biological upgrades to themselves instead of technological. But I like the first one better.
For voices of evil, I'm picturing something really tech-industrial, like heavily distorted autotune mixed with a fax machine.

What do you guys think?
>>
>>49511988
This is good. I imagine the biological weapons would be on a timer, allowing the cultist to remain undetected until suddenly turning into some monstrosity in the middle of sensitive areas.

Also I assume the honor thing was why they left. Maybe they didn't like the pragmatic approach the iron warriors took to chaos. We do have gods above all so it could make sense.
>>
>>49512059
Or they just got kicked out by Pert because their champion was gaining too much favor with the gods? Pert is pretty envious and violent towards everything he perceives is better than him.
>>
>>49511988
Mix them, the crazy biological upgrades are done to the cultists, successful cultists are used as aspirants with the upgrades designed to facilitate or replace geneseed enhancement. Any non-effectual upgrades or side effects get replaced with cybernetics if the cultist survives the process of becoming a Space Marine.
>>
This sounds like a sect of Iron Warriors I came up with that willingly accepted and experimented with the Obliterator Virus on subhumans, xenos, and themselves.
>>
>>49512059
Well, they'd probably have loads of cultists with cheap and easy upgrades for bum-rushing fortified positions, but yeah, that sounds really cool.
Out of nowhere, a civilian just explodes into a writhing mass of teeth and claws and starts ripping people apart (or just explodes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5CSMQhFDaM)
>>
>>49512097
Yea, that sounds better. Go with this.

So what about the orks? They just like fighting us and constantly tail us yandere style? Maybe our cultists and marines are harder to kill and put up a better fight because of our augmentations.
>>
>>49512184
Maybe they constantly tail them to be able to capture a few so we can use their genetics to create a super warrior? Fighting is in Orks blood after all
>>
>>49512175
Fabulous Bile must love this legion then
>>
>>49512154
I didn't even think of the Obliterator virus, but it fits really well with the warband.
Could you imagine a Daemon Prince with the Obliterator virus? Some kind of Soul Grinder-y badass that collects the best weapons he can find to incorporate into his body? Or is that too ridiculous?

>>49512145
That's also really cool, and a good explanation for why the cultists stick with them.
>>
>>49512184
>>49512215
Or we could keep it simple, just have them be sharing the same region of space or fighting over a key planet.
>>
>>49512258
A Daemon Prince/Obliterator would be awesome, he could have Obliterators and Mutilators as an honour guard too! (Even though Mutilators don't come from the obliterator virus they're pretty much the same thing)
>>
>>49512258
I second this. Obliterator Daemon Prince striving to become the ultimate weapon. Infiltrator units carry a syringe device they can use to implant a part of his DNA into unsuspecting victims, resulting in http://youtu.be/v5CSMQhFDaM
>>
>>49512379
I don't know about the syringe thing, I like the whole suicide bomber aspect of it, it highlights that the warband doesn't give a shit about the cultists, they just find them useful.
Maybe they could capture someone and alter them to do it, but I feel like just sticking one syringe into them is too easy.
Of course, the explosion would be much more impressive than the one in the video. This is 40k, after all. It'd be more like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L14gzAUiZyQ
>>
>>49512278
>Roight, so there I am, me an' Squigfist, up against one of them Khaoz beakies when his bolta jams up on him. So Squigfist, lousy git that he is, shots me in da back and goes da hit 'em with his choppa when dis humie runs up screamin' and jumps on him.
>Ol' Squigfist slams 'em to da and stabs 'em with his choppa, yellin' dat he's gonna get a twofer with one swing, when da humie explodes inta dis sqiggly bit o' claws 'n teeth dat rips Squigfist in half.
>So Squigfist is screamin' 'n getting his guts ate and me and da Khaoz beakie look at each other an' start laffin. Then I shoot da beakie in da face. True story boyz, swear ta Mork.
>>
>>49512379
Take group of cultists, mainline the Obliterator virus in one, then the rest cut him up for guns and ammo when they're ready to strike.
>>
>>49512448
Maybe the tendrils that explode out of them grabs whatever organic mass it can get and incorporates it into itself? That way they could basically manufacture chaos spawn
>>
What's that program people use to generate colors for a color scheme?
>>
WHERE THE FUCK IS THE SUMMARY POST
>>
>>49511891
What if we have biological beasts?

Like we are some beast master psycho pirates?
>>
>>49511891
>>49513200
>>
>>49513217
Yes yes. I'm an idiot.

But what about instead of mad scientists they are something more like this >>49513215 master breeders and forgers of Daemon engines
>>
So we've got suicide bio-bomber infiltrators, Hyped up front line cultists... But what about the marines themselves? Are they just standard iron warriors, or is there anything we can do with them?
>>
>>49513304
Daemon engines were another roll on the same table, so I assume they're different from biological experiments.
>>
>>49513316
Well it can be assumed that there are more Mutilators and Obliterators than normal, maybe the whole warbands goal is to perfect the already powerful space marine biology?
>>
>>49513316
How about they're all about improving themselves using a combination of cyborg parts and biotech, and aspire to the day that they can finally receive the Obliterator virus and become what they believe to be the perfect form. Which is why they're so devoted to chaos, because their personal Daemon Prince is their paragon of fucking shit up.

They've basically taken the "flesh is weak" mindset of the Iron Warriors and modified it to "unmodified flesh is weak". Given that the Obliterator virus itself is a merging of biological with technological, their obsession with improving themselves both ways fits pretty well.
>>
>>49513444
Sounds awesome
>>
>>49513304
What if there are like three types of cultists they use: the sleeper agents, the slightly modified shock troopers, and then another type that's pretty much chaos spawn.

The warband sees the suiciders as expendable assets that can be used. The shock troopers are also to be used, but those that prove themselves might be chosen to receive geneseed, like what this guy said: >>49512145
The chaos spawn they're actually somewhat affectionate towards, and treat them like hunting animals.
>>
>>49513444
Question that I feel is pertinent in this situation; what happens if you introduce the Obliterator virus to a dreadnought?
>>
>>49513586
A Helbrute
>>
Bump
>>
>>49513521
Now I can't get the image of a pen full of jovial chaos spawn playing fetch with a couple Space marines out of my head

122 KB
122 KB JPG
>>49514026
>"Who's a good abomination! You are!"
>>
So all in all, the Warband is convinced that the Obliterator Viirus is the key to human perfection and being infected with it and turning into an Obliterator/Mutilator is considered an honor. Furthermore, they have a massive cult following them which they use for Space Marine recruitment, biological suicide bombing, creation of pseudo Chaos Spawn, and experiments in general.

Sounds good?
>>
>>49514287
I think we can boost their charisma. Basically make them Animal Man/Kraven the hunter types

I think going the Kennel Lords route with them could be prettt cool
>>
>>49514364
Maybe they could have a charismatic poster guy to lure civilians and cultists in before brainwashing , makes sense since they have so many cultists
>>
>>49514431
Eh...if we came from Word Bearerst I think that would be good, but these cultists could just be little more than redshirted, faceless, Cobra henchmen
>>
>>49514510
True, they could just go to a daemon world and pick up a couple hundred every other day
>>
>>49514287
Yea, I like it. Good mix of the mad scientist and beast master with the chaos spawn hunting hounds.

So, I've been working on a drawing of what the Obliterator Daemon Prince might look like.
You can't really see it well from the angle, but he's got a ton of Relic Weapons he's collected embedded in his back, that he pulls out whenever he wants to use them.

What do you guys think?
>>
>>49521470
Fantastic! All the best parts of Obliterators but still with the stature of a Prince.

OP has returned. My internet had a stroke, but I'm proud to see /tg/ kept getting shit done in my absence.

I like the Cobra angle btw, I think it strikes a good mix between the Marines' derision to those below them but honor amongst the upper echelons.
>>

Thanks anon, looks good!
>>
>>49521618
>>49521845
Glad you like it.

We need to figure out a name for these guys. I spent all morning trying and came up with zilch.
It should probably incorporate iron and flesh, or their search for perfection, or something to do with Obliterators.
The Iron Paragon? The Toothed Chasm? The Legion of the Eclipse?
>>
>>49521943
Iron Paragons sounds good. Maybe something shorter, like just "The Furnace".

Also what about color schemes? I imagine they'd be rather similar to Iron Warriors but would they have anything to really distinguish themselves besides copious mutation and different heraldry?
>>
>>49522081
Hmmm, I don't know. I like the hazard stripes of the Iron Warriors, but I don't know what could be changed and still look cool.
>>
>>49522081
I think the Furnace sounds like they use fire a lot. What about The Flesh Forgers?
>>
>>49522290
Yeah I think save for some heraldry changes they'd look good with the standard IW color scheme.

How about just "The Flesh Forge". They are the marines OF The Flesh Forge. That way they sound more like an institution, like you can call them up and put in an order for some top-quality abominations.

The Flesh Forge is a darkly insidious Chaos warband, formed from the followers of the Iron Warriors champion Thodos "the Ironbringer".

Thodos was an honorable warrior, rare amongst his brethren, and despite his boundless Chaos-induced fury, and cold indifference for those beneath him, he was a paragon of those more power traits in the scions of Perturabo: determination and inventiveness.

He worked heavily with the Warpsmiths and acolytes of the Obliterator Cult, becoming one of the monstrosities, though maintaining a notable mastery over his own form. The slaughter he brought to the xenos foes of the legion, and the hordes of loot he returned to his cult-brothers marked him as warrior with little peer. Eventually, the Dark Gods took heed, ascending him to a Daemon Prince.

Now known as The Flesh Forge, the followers of Thodos are an elite sect dedicated to the perfection of the Chaos Marine form via the Obliterator virus. Consisting of little more than a coven of Obliterator warriors and their Warpsmith overseers, the warband makes up for its vulnerability through the paid loyalty of other Chaos Lords, and hordes of devoted cultists who seek empowerment - something the Forge is willing to provide to those who survive the meat grinder, with cultists becoming either inducted marines or devolved into mindless, though powerful, abominations.

The Flesh Forge sells its warriors, technology, and various other services to any Chaos Lords who can afford it. They are noted for their extreme reliability. There are never late to meet a deadline, or ones to go back on a deal. Once contracted, the Flesh Forge is honor-bound to fulfill their dark commission.

Current warband activity consists of roaming the Ultima Segmentum, selling their services and battling xenos. Many strange alien creatures have been abducted for dark experiments by the Flesh Forge, and they are responsible for more than a few genocides. Currently fighting and abducting Ork forces.
>>
bump to stay alive.
>>
All I can imagine is these guys setting of a dead space style pandemic and swooping in mid crisis to get shit done while the abominations go on a rampage, and it all starts with a twitchy guy in a robe standing in the middle of a crowd whispering to them self "The flesh is weak, before the forge."
>>
>>49527853
They would make for pretty good narrative villains, as the actual important members of the warband would be hard to reach, and any time they come on the scene it's always an exponential growth thing.

First the cultists start a Chaos-spawn necromorph plague, then Obliterators show up to wipe out the tougher defenders, then the warband proper shows up and strips the afflicted area for anything they desire. Meanwhile, our erstwhile heroes must battle through hordes of monstrosities to actually reach the masterminds.

And they'd be pretty affably evil to boot. The warpsmiths and obliterators would always laud worthy opponents, and do things to piss off loyalists like using the old "Hello, BROTHER" line.
>>
>>49527955
A dead space inspired 40k campaign? Sign me the fuck up! I can imagine it would do great with any of the rpgs for 40k.
>>
For three long weeks we defended the hive against the traitors who would overrun us. Three weeks draining our powerpacks dry against all they could throw against us, soaking the trenches with tainted blood. Three weeks battling the heretical and the obscene.
When we had beaten back the latest of countless charges, and the unclean forces fell back again, a ragged cheer was raised. We were starving, cold, and sick. Our losses were horrific, and it would be further weeks before any hope of reinforcements. But we had served the Emperor. We had held the line.
The blasphemous horde held us loosely in its grip for a time. The underhive began to grumble, and then to riot as food ran low, but we held them in check. Just a little longer, and help would be here, they shouted to the masses.
And then we lost communication with a neighboring hive. They were under siege as well, but had been successfully repulsing the enemy before sudden, absolute silence. Two days later another hive went dead. Then another. Curiosity became fear, became horror, as one by one the hives went silent without warning, until we were alone.
And then they came.
We saw the new horde join the heretics at the siege perimeter. It became immediately apparent that this was a breed of chaos far different than those we had been fighting. Rather than the frenzied, maudlin gigglers in violet silks, these were dour creatures in black livery cut with yellow stripes. Nearly all had been touched by the Warp's corruption, each seemingly allotted three extra eyes and a limb apiece. Towering above them were the unholy figures of fallen Astartes in the same colors, their mutations only further developed, barking out orders in a metallic screech that reached even us. Towering above THEM were clearly the next step in abominable warpcraft: great hulking forms, so twisted by some horrific power in both metal and flesh that it could not be seen where one ended and the other began.
>>
Alright, so we've got our heraldry. What's the armor colors, are we just Ingrid using iron warriors colors or a variation?
>>
>>49528110
A group of Imperials must fight off hordes of chaos spawn with repurposed industrial equipment, fighting off the whipsers of chaos and becoming progressively more insane.

Even if they survive the encounter, the only people who could track down the warband responsible are the space marines, but the astartes and the inquisition are far more likely to just execute any survivors for risk of infection.

So it's a battle of survival and endurance as the players try not only to escape the chaos spawn, but retain their sanity enough to call upon reinforcements.

I like this. Their mix of subterfuge, mad science, and abundant mooks make this warband have far more possibilities than you'd think.
>>
>>49528166
I'd say using a variation of their colors, maybe change up the hazard stripes a bit with flesh like colors

I'm trying to recreate this drawing from an angle so we can get a better view of the relic weapons on him.

I'm curious to whether you want him to be hunched slightly like regular DPs or have his head more raised like in original?

I'm also thinking of replacing his mechanical claw with a defiler claw at the end. I like defiler claws, but I'm still inbetween the two claws. Which do you guys favor (Defiler claw or original)?

The flesh forge is quickly shaping up to be one of my favorite tg made any things for 40k, hell I might even use this for my dark heresy campaign.
>>
All I can imagine is a lone mechanicus engineseer fighting his way through the hordes of chaos abominations using what ever is at hand and slowly unraveling the plot.
>>
>>49528203
Maybe he should have a few nonhuman weapons too? Like maybe a Gauss Flayer?

At the sight of them, the last fires of hope burned out of our hearts. Not a man among us could look at that fearsome host and keep our gorges from rising. We saw, however, that we were not alone in our revulsion. Their mincing allies were clearly uncomfortable in the presence of such creatures. The maddening songs that had worn our sanity thin throughout the siege at last fell blessedly silent, and lithe dancers tripped and stumbled when the monstrous creatures passed near. We prayed that the division between these factions would work against them in the coming attack.
Our scouts were sent out in the night to reconnoiter the new foe. They returned shaken and pale, with stories of pens of horrific beasts, nauseatingly mutated, to be unleashed in the coming assault. A great chirurgeon's tent set in the heart of the camp, marked by the excruciating screams of their own men as vile rituals took place within. An endless line of heretics, patiently waiting for their turn inside.
We steeled ourselves and took whatever feeble comforts we had left, knowing that the next day would bring horrors and pain beyond reckoning.
>>
>>49528203
Hunched is better, I just wanted him spread out so it would be a little more clear how he's set up. A defiler claw does sound really cool, but I don't think it would beat a lightning claw in terms of raw power.
Is there a way to show that the defiler claw has a power field?

Honestly I ran out of space on his arms to hold cool ranged weapons, while still having functional hands for melee ones. We could probably stick a few alien melee weapons in his back

They began at dawn, with a hail of artillery fire. As the world rattled around our heads, we said every prayer we could think of, from litanies drilled into our heads down to scraps of forgotten songs learned in childhood.
When the thunder died away, we lifted our heads to see the first wave advance.
No Astartes took to the field in that first charge. They stood at the perimeter, watching as the bizarre mix of lesser heretics advanced under our withering fire. Scores cut down by our heavy guns, and still they advanced, and still their masters watched. And just as it seemed we would break the horde, the world began to shake once more.
This time, their artillery struck with pinpoint accuracy. Every turret, every fortification, every heavy gun that had bravely scythed through the blasphemers now crumbled under the exacting barrage. The lucky few of the enemy that had actually managed to reach our fortifications, found themselves now blasted apart by their own artillery.
For the second time that day I peered above the battlements to see terror beyond my nightmares. The second wave was advancing.
It was clear that there would not be a third.
Sweeping through the survivors of the first charge came the abominations from the pens. The complete monstrosity of their form hurt my very eyes to look upon, and their shambling, gibbering gait ate up the distance to the walls. Behind the advance of twitching flesh came the hulking amalgams of flesh and steel in a spear point, to break through our weakest defenses. Their weapons spit a variety of fire as twisted and deadly as their wielders. Behind them was a wide line of the traitor Astartes, moving as one in thundering discipline.
>>

I was thinking more of him just reaching back and viscerally ripping it out, then jamming it back in when he's done.

>Oh I am gonna fuck you up
>Just lemme get my favorite chainaxe
>Dammit, hold on a second (gropes around violently)

Okay, how I think it should be handled is like a Saturday Morning cartoon evil organization(since i saw COBRA mentioned) or actual terrorist groups. So basically the deceptions.

Lower level henchmen are basically canon fodder and stress balls for everyone, but the higher up the chain you go the more professional things get. Suicide bombers should be given a place of honour like in real terrorist groups, they are martyrs, not necessarily cannon fodder.

As for Demeanor I think they should be the kind of villians that you love to hate; grinning, smug, laughing maniacs that will be as happy to exchange battlefield banter as rip your arms off, bolt them to your kids, sew your kids into a human centipede, and infuse a Flesh Hound into it in their Bio labs.
>>
>>49528587
My quiet contemplation of my own demise was interrupted by a pained moan. I turned to see one of the scouts that had returned the night before, now doubled over in the bunker. He staggered to the wall, clutching at himself, as his moans turned to low, shuddering screams.
I saw the Commissar, eyes wide in horrified realization, shoving past guardsmen to the scout with pistol drawn. The scout, uniform almost shredded by his convulsions, had begun to bloat to an unnatural size. His shrieks had shifted to a higher pitch, and I could see muscular forms writhing like worms beneath the skin of his back.
The Commissar had just put his pistol to the scout's head when he... burst.
I regained my faculties after some seconds of noise and pain and movement. Near everyone in the bunker was dead or dying, skewered by a hundred whip-taut tentacles, each ending in a long black talon now embedded in the walls. Slowly, as my nerve returned, I traced the tentacles back to the source, a twitching mass of flesh so bloody and shredded it could not remotely be called human. Tracing back, I realized that one of the tendrils had pierced straight through my arm.
Freeing myself was a haze of agony and will. My arm hung limp, bloody at my side. Upon leaving the bunker, I blearily realized that the thunder of artillery had ceased, and that the only sound left was the faint strains of utter slaughter from the wall. We had been breached.
I've regained some clarity in this brief moment, enough to record the events leading to my death before the shock pulls me away again. I am barricaded in the great chapel, with a score of guardsmen as little prepared to mount a defense as I. The enemy has not reached us yet, but the sound of obliteration draws ever closer.
If any agent of the Imperium touches this record again, let it be known that we have failed the Emperor in our final test. Against these blasphemous siege breakers there could be no hope. In the end, we could not hold the line.

As for Thodos himself I think he should look a little more like pic related, and should hold no weapons.

He IS the weapon. He is the obliterater virus made perfect. I would say he doesn't even have a set shape, arms becoming booming warp cannons one moment, then shifting into bladed claws another.

He's a walking monument to the Dark Mechanicus, a Daemon Engine Powered by a Prince, Fueled by Pride, Composed of tainted flesh, and Perfected with Steel. Thodos is what every organization needs; and ideal.
>>
>>49528891
I like Chimera and Reforgers, I don't really get Artesians or Galvanizers

I think that the cultists themselves would consider suicide troops to be an honor, but the legion still don't respect them, but the cultists worship them so much that they do it anyway. I like the idea of an almost abusive relationship, where the marines are clearly using the cultists. Kind of like the Warboys in Mad Max. Immortan Joe starts this whole cult around giving your life for him, but he doesn't actually give a shit about their lives.

For Demeanor, I kind of like the idea of keeping the whole "grim and stoic" schtick that the Iron Warriors have. I think they should be more focused towards pragmatism than outright evil, using their bio-creatures to fill specific needs rather than "because it seemed like an evil thing to do". I think as far as banter and smugness go, they shouldn't go past Snarky.

That's my perspective.
>>

>>
>>49529068
I was thinking about something like that, but I realized pretty quick that it was far beyond my ability to draw. If anyone else wants to take a stab at it, go ahead. And good luck.

I do think that there should still be some scraps of flesh in him, and he should have the hunched stance that >>49528203 recommended. We want to make sure he can't be confused with some kind of Necron.
>>
>>49529086
And also going with the Dead Space influence, the Unitologist villains had a pretty in-line attitude towards what we're aiming for with these guys. They were all smug smarmy pieces of shit whom you hated, but they always said everything with such certainty. They knew in their hearts that the horrors they were committing were part of some great, inevitable perfection. And they were never foolish. Deluded, but not foolish.
>>
>>49529086
I agree with the name choices

You have to remember that they got kicked out by Perturabo because they were doing something better than he was , i'd imagine that there would be a bit more of a difference between them and normal Iron Warriors
>>
>>49529151
>I do think that there should still be some scraps of flesh in him

drawer here, I was just thinking that. Daemon flesh growing on the embedded weapons to secure them
>>
Here's a question:
if this legion gives all its best marines the Obliterator virus, which drives its victim insane, how do they have any kind of tactical or strategic planning?
Are they blessed by Thodos to keep their minds after being transformed? Is there a high council of Bodhisattvas who willingly reject the pursuit of perfection in order to lead their warband? Or is the whole thing run by some middle-management marine who hires out his legion's services like a sleazy car salesman?
>>
>>49529225
I think that since they basically deify Obliterators they either have improved the virus so that they keep their mental faculties or just have enough normal Marines running things that the massive amount of crazy doesn't affect things too badly
>>
>>49529086
>For Demeanor, I kind of like the idea of keeping the whole "grim and stoic" schtick that the Iron Warriors have. You have to remember that the Iron Warriors were super fucking smug when they weren't autistically maudlin. Remember Shon'tu? He's quite possibly the smuggest shit head ever.

It stands to reason that we can a step further with these guys and have them actually be a little more light hearted. If nothing else it will distinguish them from essentially every other warband.

Essentially an amalgam of the corpse of Void Whale and a small Space Hulk. This huge gutted abomination carries the flocks of Raptors and Warp Talons that follow Thodos and also contains nests of demon engines within its screaming hallways and twisting innards.

Also one of a ships is a member of a War council. (think of him as a mix of Shockwave, Soverign and The Master from Fallout) simply by dint of everything on the ship being obliterator-virused together, after which the malevolent mind within the ship did some major re-modelling. Leading to a ship that can make warp rifts by having all the souls trapped at the prow scream in unison and amplifying it through the Astropath who has been smeared across the prow in the form of a colossal mouth.

Even as the world swam and spun, coming into focus, Brother-Sergeant Horst could smell the foul corruption in the air. Faint sounds pounded on his ears through a mix of his own enhanced senses and the muddled state of his mind. As his vision sharpened, he took in his situation.
The room was still hazy, though he noted the grey, metal walls overrun with all manner of displays and tubes. He was unable to turn his head from his position, though he could hear from behind him some dull clattering and faint buzzing. Up in the high corners of the room, clustered around vents and tucked into corners, festered some organic substance—flesh colored and porous. The marine had little doubt as to what manner of affliction it was.
The source of most vexation was the fact that he was missing his glorious grey and gold armor. Various tubes ran into the exposed ports of his black carapace, and adamantium clamps held down his limbs and torso. Anguish was funneled into rage as he yanked against his steadfast constraints, indignant as to be exposed to the corruption that no doubt hung in this air.
Strength in purity. The marine repeated the mantra again and again in his head. Strength in purity.
A voice piqued up behind him, and the clattering ceased. Even as Horst still struggled heavy footfalls rounded the table, bringing the horrid off-tune buzzing sound with it—some manner of bizarre tune.
>>
>>49537424
“Ah, you are awake, brother.” The voice evoked the sounds of a field-vox who’s machine spirit had been abused and neglected. Horst looked up beside the slab he was bound to, coming face-to-monstrosity with a traitor astartes. His armor bore semblance to the degenerate spawn of Perturabo, though with the orderless and disparate nature of these corrupted creatures the Brother-Sergeant could not be sure. His face pained the Scorpion to gaze upon, as the half that was flesh appeared burned and melted, while the half that was metal was a mess of intrusive wires and glowing eyes. Even worse was that what was left of the traitor’s mouth seemed to be smiling at him.
“I hope you are prepared to meet your false gods today, traitor.” Horst craned his neck, almost snarling at the traitor. A heavy mechadendrite grasped the Sergeant’s forehead, forcing him back down onto the slab.
“On any other occasion I might be, brother, but I have no such intention today. Please do not strain yourself, I require your assistance.” He sauntered around the room, adjusting the grim tools that were suspended above the operating table and tapping at cogitators.
“You will have no ‘assistance’ from me, flawed warp-spawn.” The loyalist had stopped struggling, however. His rage would not get the better of him, he would wait for the opportunity to strike. “Even if you kill me, my brothers will avenge me. You cannot hope to hold me here forever; our glorious fleet will blast your twisted hulls from the void.”
>>
>>49537438
The creature smiled its twisted smile even wider, “No, brother, I think not. You see, if you remember past your addled state, you likely lost consciousness fighting the forces of the Blooded Host.” He continued working as he spoke, “Lord Scarax promised us a squad of the purest loyalists in exchange for our services, and so—here you are! Welcome aboard the Perfection Saught.” He extended a mechadendrite, grabbing Horst’s head and forcing him to make eye contact. “I am Warpsmith Schade, and you shall be assisting me in my experiments today.”
Horst spat at him, but his Betcher’s Gland fell short and instead just sizzled on Schade’s armored collar.
“Very well.” He let go of the Red Scorpion’s face, going back to checking all the various machines about the room. “Perhaps I have spent too long working on xenos slag, I forgot how much—willfulness comes with you corpse-worshippers.” He grabbed several vials from off a rack, plugging them into a terminal beside the operating table. “I would ask you, if we are so different, broth—”
“Do not speak, or I will ram your traitorous jaw down your blasphemous throat!”
“But save for your god being a mouldering corpse, and mine being the most powerful beings in existence, we both share the same goal—” he smiled again, typing into the terminal as a twin-pronged device extended from the ceiling, “Perfection.”
The prongs of the machine lined up with Horst’s face, as clamps extended from behind him, holding his head in place. Lights flickered on the end of the prongs, shining bright into the marine’s eyes.
“Our neuro-toxins have proven ineffective against the filtration systems of loyalist astartes.” Schade mused, “You will be exposed to a series of neurological stimuli, in conjunction to several serums. I want you to tell me after each one how effective they were.”
>>
Lets not go overboard.

Everytime /tg/ tries to make a theme we have a tendency to go way the fuck over board.

In case you get confused, refer to this simple post. >>49528682
>>
>>49537450
Horst was about to spit another curse at the traitor, closing his eyes to not be exposed to the heretical holograms, but was interrupted at the intense pain of the prongs of the machine burrowing into his eyes. Wires extended within his head, grasping onto his optical nerves. Horst screamed in wrathful agony.
“Please save your verdicts until the start of the test.” Schade pressed a button, and the lights on the electro-tubes embedded in Horst’s eyes and carapace turned green in accordance with the green of the serum that now ran into his veins.
The Sergeant screamed again, thrashing at his binds, convulsing and speaking gibberish.
“I will rate that as effective.” The warpsmith grinned and typed away, “Very expressive verdict, brother, your contributions will be greatly appreciated. Progress and perfection, my friend.” Horst screamed again. “Progress and perfection.”

We shouldn't have the warband be DEFINED by their influences.

They shouldn't be "the decepticon warband" or the "cobra warband" or the "necromorph warband".

We use elements of those influences because the work towards our overall theme: Obliterators, bio-terrorism, and chaos-spawn.
>>
>>49537580
Not really and I don't see why they wouldn't use them
>>

>>
>>49537618
The marines ARE the daemon engines.

If they did build more - "conventional" daemon engines it'd probably be the result of fusing a bunch of daemonhosts and armor plating it.

>>
>>49537664
That actually sounds pretty badass.

But what would they be called?
>>
>>49537584
Allow me to go on a tangent, if I may.

Consider the Chimera. A noble, savage, proud beast, but it is greater than the sum of its parts.

Take the lion, for example. Strong, unyielding, proud. The lion makes the Chimera strong, but strength is overcome by guile and wit, and worn down in the face of adversity.

But what of the Ram? Yes, the humble ram. He who is of a mindless herd, yet bold, tough, adaptable. The ram may not have the strength of the Lion, nor the venomous faculties of the clever serpent, but he is tenacious and adaptable, able to survive where the others cannot.

And what of the viper? That most insidious limb of the honourable Chimera. It whispers, flitting in and out of the brush. The Malevolent snake is the alien mind of the Chimera, offering tainted knowledge and deadly venom to an otherwise dumb beast.

Thus is the marine of the Chimeric Legion , as is their machine God, Thodos the Ironbringer. Proud metal to strengthen changing flesh fueled by the warp.

Steel and Iron.

Flesh and Bone.

Warp and Daemon.

This is the path that leads to perfection. This is the evolution of the terrible Chimera.

Should this not be the path of Thodos and his Brothers and Sons, oh brothers mine?

>>
>>49538666

>>
>>49538748

>>
>>49538666
>"CHAOS ACKBAR"

These guys are terrorists for hire. You oay them in esoteric stuff, like geneseed or technology, or even skilled labour, then they set to working.

Phase one is intel collection or seeding, depending on the target. This phase is essentially prepping the target for having the rug pulled out from under them. They typically phase in grunts and henchmen to promote the growth of their cult, a weapon in and of itself.

Then they either begin bombings with mutagens and daemon hosts or full on assault.
>>
Okay, so no offense, but I think we're latching onto the "perfection" theme a little too much. That's much more Slaanesh's thing than undivided. These guys aren't the Emperor's Children, and they're not the Flawless Host.

I think there should be a few warpsmiths that are obsessed with perfection, but remember that the ones that have actually achieved that perfection (obliterators & mutilators) aren't exactly capable of thinking anymore. Thodos is the only one who's ever managed to retain his sanity after being infected- THAT'S what they worship, and THAT'S what they all hope to achieve. Their experiments shouldn't be meant to perfect the human body by themselves. They're just trying to find a way to perfect the Obliterator virus so they can all be like Thodos.

I also think there should be a clear divide between what the warband believes, and what the cultists believe. The cultists should think that there are three big ways to serve chaos: prove themselves and be recruited, suicide bomber themselves, or be turned into a chaos spawn.
The marines believe no such thing, they've got their whole Obliterator cult going on, but they encourage the cultists because it provides them with free bullet soaks.

I guess I just don't like the idea of them being cheesy Saturday morning cartoon villains. I think they should be a warband first, and a cult second, you know? We shouldn't Flanderize one thing until that's all they are.
>>
>>49538666
I think that's what the Chaos Spawn and suiciders are for. They use biological warfare by creating monsters to fill whatever unusual niche they may need.
>>
>>49538862
You have a good point there
>>
>>49538862
Well see, striving for perfection doesn't make you slaaneshi. Slaanesh is about excess, never being content with what you have. These guys aren't like that. Their quest to perfection isn't one of greed or anything. It's purely scientific.

And perfection shouldn't be the major theme here like you said. They make biobombers and chaos spawns, which are as flawed as you can get. It's taking the iron warriors pragmatic approach to chaos and focusing it on biological experiments. (Which is ironic since they're basically just Iron warriors with more autism than the rest)

this is me for reference >>49528203

plz note that I plan on editing the Defiler Claw so that it's bigger and more importantly fits better. I'll probably draw a separate mechanical claw version like in original and edit it in.

I'm having a little problem with the Hammer arm as I don't want it to be a blank canvas (same w/ torso). probably some random equipment and wires. I really should add more wires.

Anyways, tell me what you think.

>>49528342
>We could probably stick a few alien melee weapons in his back
darn missed this. I was thinking of adding a lasgun for lulz
>>
>>49539276
In addition to the wires, maybe bits of organic matter crossing and joining the mechanical parts, and vice versa.
>>
>>49539142
Before they fell, the Emperor's children were obsessed with perfection. Fulgrim said "We are His children... Only by imperfection can we fail him. We will not fail!". A search for perfection is one of the paths to Slaanesh.
I also think we should be wary of going too far towards the whole Dark Mechanicus "pure science!" mindset either.

>It's taking the iron warriors pragmatic approach to chaos and focusing it on biological experiments. (Which is ironic since they're basically just Iron warriors with more autism than the rest)
This is spot-on. This is what we should keep in mind for these guys. I think some (maybe most) of the Warpsmiths can be maniacal evil nazi scientists, but the standard trooper should be very much a ruthless, pragmatic warrior. Like I said before, we should remember that they're a warband first and a cult second.
>>
>>49539326
yeah I tried that with the Melta Arm, and end up doing "fusing with flesh" instead, but it didn't come out too bad, I tried making the Melta canister look like it's embedded into the arm, got what I got.
>maybe bits of organic matter crossing and joining the mechanical parts, and vice versa.
I plan on doing that with the Defiler arm in edit, in a flesh invading metal style on pistons. though you just gave me an idea of adding a piston to the hammer forearm

and I want to try adding some chaotic metal for flesh metal, so it's not just flesh growing on metal.

This one's completely ridiculous, but I couldn't resist.

>Experiment #46673, "Chimera Green"
>Goal: to re purpose the Ork biology into a unit suitable for destroying its own kind
>Results: Mixed
>Findings: after the (admittedly difficult) task of capturing one of the greenskins, we found the brain surprisingly easy to rewrite to our purposes. It was a simple matter to locate the shriveled area responsible for telling friend from foe and annihilate it, and install a wetware module to alter its behavior further. Once the brain modification had finished, we spent some time adding a twin lascannon attachment, and growing out the arm to satisfaction.
>Upon deployment, it sought out the nearest Ork settlement, and began working its way through the greenskins with gratifying efficiency.
>An unforeseen variable, however, was the effect of the latent gestalt field among the Orks. As the subject killed more and more Orks in the next few months, their fear of it caused to to expand tremendously in size and muscle mass. This was all well and good until a threshold was reached, at which point it somehow managed to break free of our control, heal its brain damage, and swiftly achieved the rank of Warboss in its own right.
>Conclusion: while an interesting case study, the practical application of such an experiment has a large potential to backfire upon us. There's an Imperial world not too far from here, I move to point the new warboss in its direction and run.

>>49539828
I mean, even the Daemon Primarchs still look much like their former selves and wear their old power armor, so I think our design is reasonable, and the Megatron-form really isn't something I'm capable of drawing.

If we really wanted to shake it up, we could say that there is a creature somewhere in the warp like what you're describing here >>49529068, that is the absolute perfect form of the Obliterator virus, and probably its cause, but that only Thodos has seen it. Thodos himself is only halfway to perfection, but his vision inspires his men, and his body is proof of its presence.

How does that sound?

How's about this, we write out what we agree he should look like, then I'll take that description and commision it from Souz.
>>
>>49540238
>Why allow ability to stunt creativity?
Dude, ability stunting creativity is, like, the entire artistic process.

Either way, it might just be pride, but I like what we've got now. Your idea is really cool, but it feels, I don't know, too much of an ideal for me. Something that is the embodiment of an idea or an emotion sound more like a full-on Daemon to me. But Daemon Princes are the meeting between human and Daemon, and that means melding the physical with the ethereal. They're always going to look less coherent than pure Daemons.
That's why I like the idea of some kind of Daemon or creature out there that IS a pure weapon, that can form endless variations of forms with its limbs, that very likely is the source of the Obliterator virus. But if we make the Daemon Prince be like that, it's going to be hugely different than any other Daemon Prince, and it's probably going to be way too overpowered for people to appreciate it.

Does that make any kind of sense, or am I just tangenting?
>>
>>49540435
On the other hand, if you still really want your idea, we could go with yours and have my guy be just a particularly badass Obliterator. Like, a champion whose only scrap of sanity left leads him to seek out worthy rivals and collect their weapons, to embed within himself.
Actually, I really like that idea. Nix everything I just said before.
>>
>>49540435
I'm pretty sure the Iron Warriors made the obliterator virus. I personally like the drawings that have already been made and Thodos isn't really overpowered, we had a discussion earlier about how any Daemon Primarch could beat him and the Primarch themselves have been beaten by various different factions in different ways
>>
>>49540577

I viewed the Conclave's attitude towards perfection as something they more or less already achieved. Chaos experiments and bio-terrorism are for wealth and pleasure, but they already view Thodos as top dog.

I used the perfection angle in the Horst-Schade short mainly because A: I wanted Schade to play up a classic Nazi scientist angle, and B: I wanted to have him play said angle off the captive Red Scorpion.

I like the fact that this warband IS starting so much debate. Unlike many other /tg/ creations which usually just revolve around one giant core gimmick these guys seem to have a lot of room for nuance, and different people have different angles they want to see more of. I'm glad this thread was such a success, especially anons uplifting Thodos the Ironbringer.
