It was dreams again. A forest, full of chained men, women, and children. Another forest, but much more corrupted, forces of evil prowled in every corner imaginable. Then a planet, soaked with radiation and remnants of destruction. All, cried, confused, afraid. Calling for her, mother! Mother! Mother!

5552 woke up in cold sweat once more, clutching her blanket tightly. It was another dream that haunted her mind, 5552 turned on the dim light, massaging her eyes with a great sigh. Outside her veranda the cold wind failed to lull her uneasy mind. The distant sparkling lights of the golden fortress was but momenary distraction. No food, drinks, or entertainment offered aid in her thoughts.

The door opened slowly, dressed in a white robe the Emperor entered her chamber. A rare occurrence. Despite her title as the Empress, they merely talked of the past and not much more. To have him arrive… well it was certainly out of the ordinary. 5552 bowed, as all would do. 5552 idly arranged her hair behind her ears as the Emperor joined her at the veranda.

“My Emperor.” 5552 said. “What brings you this late?”

“Malcador informed me about your recent nightmares.”

“It is no trouble for you to be concerned about.” 5552 said.

“Perhaps, but you are an important part of my plan and I am concerned for you.” The Emperor said.

“I’m… honored.” 5552 confusedly.
The construction continued silently. The distant lights glimmered like the stars of Terra.

“The palace will be quite the sight once it’s complete.” 5552 said.

“Yes. Our sons will roam these halls when the time comes.”

5552 confusedly look up to the Emperor, she must have heard it wrong. It was rare for the Emperor to refer the primarchs other than their classification.

“Yes… our sons. I fear everyday that we will never be reunited with them.” 5552 said worriedly.

“Your health has been declining from the words of the physicians.” The Emperor said. “You cannot let uncontrollable situation endanger your being.”

“What mother ceases to worry about her son?” 5552 said.

5552 stepped back as the Emperor’s hand went forward to touch her head, she opened her shut eyes to realized he meant no harm. Her body tightened, arms folding toward the center of the chest, eyes wide at the sudden movement of the Emperor.

“My Emperor… is there something you need?”

The Emperor pulled his hand back, visage still as a stone as always. The Empress, the perpetual without a name, was a strange one. She was a being older than he is, with likely chance that she could have been there when the shamans created him. A woman who had raised kings and warriors, who most likely witnessed all the horrors that humanity had committed. Yet he had seen the kindness in her, the steadfast trust in the good that humanity can do instead of the evil. Yet… when it came to him the Emperor sensed her distrust and wariness.

“Do you trust me?” The Emperor said.

“I have been following you for centuries, my Emperor. That answers my loyalty does it not?”

“I did not ask if you are loyal. I asked if you trust me.” The Emperor said.

5552 paused, unsure of his question but the certainty in her visage proved a different emotion.

“And what brings you to ask me this, do you fear I will conspire against you like your sons will like you have predicted?”

“Does that still worry you?”

“Worry, no. I fear you.”

The Emperor’s brow was raised just a milimeter.

“You fear me?”

“Your plan was to have half of your sons turn against you as a way to dispose of them!” 5552 said. “The Thunder Warriors… I remember when you came back from that mountain. You made them to serve a purpose, you poisoned them so when they were no longer necessary they would simply be disposed of.”

“They-”

“Were tools for your conquest, a necessary evil. As always you are correct.” 5552 sneered. “You play with lives like the chaos gods. You may not know it but there was not a hint of regret on your face, nothing but cold indifferent visage on that day. I trust you to lead mankind, but you lost your humanity. And I fear the day you will see all of humanity as pawns.”

“Without the Thunder Warriors unified Terra would not exist.” The Emperor said firmly.

“I am aware of that.” 5552 said. “Is there anything else you need to affirm?”

The Emperor, in his ever stone hard visage simply blink.

“No, I bid you a good rest.”

Red. Pain. So much pain. Not from him, but what he had done unto others. A pyramid, acid and water, neither mattered as they all died except for one. The victor, alone on a bloody pyramid, showered in praises he did not want. 5552 dropped her spoon in the plate of the half eaten soup. 5552 admitted she had seen many grisly sights herself. But this… it was different. It was pain amplified in a hollow cave. There was so much of it, anger, horror, sorrow, all mixed into a cauldron of boiling pool that burned the stomach. Then a name surfaced…

“Nuceria…”

“I beg your pardon, my Empress?” A lord said.
“Excuse me for a moment.”

The custodian followed the Empress and the lords parted ways. The party ended abruptly as the lords and ladies watched with an aghast frown, the Empress was walking… while holding her skirt as if she was going to run in the halls. Whoever the lords were speaking with the Emperor could wait. It was until Malcador stood between her and the Emperor.

“Empress.” Malcador tilted his head forward curtly. “The Emperor is occupied at the moment. Is there something you need to relay?”

“I need to speak with him, now.” The Empress said. “

“He is indisposed, let us talk in my chambers before-”

The ground did not quite shake, but certainly Malcador took notice of the Emperor’s movement. No one could simply ignore the Emperor. And certainly if he did not want to be seen the Emperor was capable of it.

Good to be back, a bit slow today

“I will meet you in our chamber, Empress.” The Emperor said psychically. “This is about our son, yes? I felt your fear… but I must take care of the matters here.”

5552 glared balefully, no words were spoken but the crowd knew they were still conversing. The Empress’s glower made the lords and ladies remember every single moment they were scolded by their mother, an unpleasant and wince inducing thought.

“MATTERS? OUR SON IS SUFFERING ON SOME GOD FORSAKEN PYRAMIS AND YOU TAKE POLTICAL MATTERS MORE IMPORTANT? DO YOU NOT FEEL HIS SUFFERING AT ALL?”

“He is a primarch.” The Emperor said firmly. “It will not take long. Wait in the chamber.”

Her teeth were clenched tight, but she followed his orders. She remained in the chambers, and she experienced it all. The wracking guilt, her son’s ability to feel pain not given unto hers. The gentlest of her son was violated with sadistic violence, through his vision she ensured to remember every single person that cheered.

The discussion was truly that of a husband and wife, at least that was what Malcador thought. Sometimes he saw them as two representation of a human. The Emperor, wise and rational, but admittedly, he lacked a heart where it mattered. The Empress, benevolent and loving, but too emotional, too quick to act, impulsive and passionate. The two opposites that cannot exist without one or the other.

“In Nuceria?”

“I’m certain of it.” The Empress said. “I felt it, they’re making our son into a monster! So why is it that we cannot send the astartes? The twelfth legion are ready.”

The Emperor pondered in his momentary silence. Perhaps number twelve would be his successor when he goes forward with his plan. His ability to feel other’s pain and fears, but that could be achieved with raw charisma as well. Nevertheless, it was an opportunity.

Don't we all anon

He did not know why it hurts so much. But as long as he can remember he felt the pain of others, and feel their fears. He could still see the flesh slipping off in the acid, reddish-brown sludge sinking slowly as their indescribable pain etched into his mind. He stood at the warm sands, the wet grains would grind between his toes as he walked. His hands were wet as the blood trailed from the tip to the handle. The roaring crowds cheered for more blood, and he felt the pain of those who died slowly, suffocating his very mind as if a rock was placed upon his chest.

Then, the crowd’s bloodthirsty cheers silenced, soon replaced with screaming panic. A shadow loomed above as if the suns fizzled out. In the sky, a great ship descended an iron beast that could easily swallow the city. Every soldier and fighter converged where the ship landed, armed with all manners of blades and guns. The barrels aimed so high soon lowered, when a man clad in golden armor descended.

It was from a cage that overlooked a mountain that Angron watched it all unfold. The perk of living in a tower of prison was that at least he had some kind of view. That day, his world changed.
>>
Gold. So much gold. So much brightness, more incandescent than the sun of Nuceria. There was so much gold. Not to mention the silence of it all. It was almost impossible think this would happen to him in all of days. Angron sat in what was the most comfortable thing in the world, it was as if his skin was sinking into the plush softness. Though he was not sure about the gold giants surrounding him, not to mention the void that was supposed to be their emotion, it was replaced with pure focus and coldness. Not a shred of emotion, any that he could sense.

With such lavishness, it was almost impossible think that this was a ship traveling across the stars. Angron noticed another presence coming in, someone… familiar. The door opened, and another giant entered. It was a man, clad in golden armor so beautifully carved with an aura to match- no, his aura would swallow the armor’s magnificence. A rich bariton flowed into his mind, a voice that he knew yet he never heard of. It was then he knew his purpose, the great crusade, the transcendence of humanity.

“F-Father…” Angron said.

“You have grown strong.” The Emperor said.

“I… I did.” Angron said reluctantly.

“You have.” The Emperor said dully.

There was clear pain in Angron, the Emperor saw that clearly. It was rather ironic. Number Twelve, he was meant to feel and take away one’s pain, to bring comfort to those who have been swallowed by fear. A natural born leader and warrior. The gladiatorial arena would have been the perfect place to sharpen his skills. Instead, he became weaker. Such hesitance needed to be grinded out. With utmost haste. No Primarch of his would become a reluctant warrior.

Or so he thought. Suddenly, the words of his companion suddenly appeared in his mind.

“I promise you, Emperor. If you do not listen to me on this matter you will fall, as all manipulative and paranoid kings have. You have seen it, I have seen it.”

Not to mention that glare of hers, the eyes of woman who has seen the world longer than he has. Not as a being like him, but as a mere human.

“-even techno-warlords don’t betray their own children. Heed my words now, Neoth. Not as your companion but as your elder.”

The Emperor briefly paused, remembering her warning. He gazed at Angron.

“Come, we have much to discuss… son.”

(personal note: I always felt bad for angron, like Mortarion and Konrad he really did have a shitty childhood)

Angron continued to walk along side his father, amazed at the size of the ship. Despite still being in Nuceria it was as if he was in a different world. After meeting his father he remembered many things that no ordinary human could remember. Then again, he was no ordinary human. He remembered mother. A faint memory yet it exuded warmth. The brief thought did not go unnoticed as the Emperor abruptly stopped speaking. Angron noticed his paused then his distracted thought being found out.

Mother… he longed to see her visage.

“No, father, I was-”

“We have talked long enough.” The Emperor said. “It is time you see her as well.”

The Emperor gestured to the double door ahead of him. Angron turned the knob, to see a woman sitting on the couch. Once Angron met her gaze, the woman’s eyes began to open wide. She calmly approached him.

“Welcome back, son…”

Yes, this was the warmth he remembered. Angron, who was two foot taller bent down to embrace his mother. There was pain in her, regretful pangs that gripped her heart. Father was gone, it was just him and mother.

“Mother… I’m happy to see you again.”

“As am I, come, we have much to talk about, you and I.”

“Father has already told me everything.” Angron said. “I am ready.”

“Not that.”

The Empress sat back to the couch, then beckoned him. Angron hesitantly sat down.

“I meant you, my son.” The Empress said. “I’ve seen the pain as you have, it must have been difficult.”

“You have felt it?”
>>
>>84076293
“I’m your mother, Angron, you, your brothers and I share a connection. You have a burden that none of your brothers will have, to feel the pain of others and to take them away.”

Angron looked down, unsure if it was a gift or not, to him it was a curse. The Empress out stretched her arm to bring his face to her gaze. There was pain, uncertainty, but she knew her son was capable.

“Why me? Why was I chosen for this burden?” Angron said.

“Because you are strong in a way your brothers cannot compare.”

“Even so…” Angron said weakly. “What if I fail my brothers, what if I fail father?”

The Empress brought Angron into her embrace, stroking his rough hair.

“No man is flawless. Even your father.” The Empress said. “True strength lies in standing back up after a failure. And I know you will always triumph; And no matter how long it takes, I will stand by you, always. It only felt like yesterday when I held on you to your arms. A day did not go by when I thought about you and your brothers. And look at you now… I’m so proud of you.”

No challenge crushed him into despair. No weapons made him tremble in fear. Ordeals and miseries, he stood against it all. The worst of the arena was conquered by him. Yet… his eyes were damp now and he felt his cheeks beginning to bedew. His father wanted him to be a warrior, a leader of mankind’s finest warriors. But for now, he was just Angron, a son embracing his mother.
