Alright, it's been a while since we did one of these. And they're always pretty fun. Any worldbuilding is. So lets get ready to dick around with Wojaks

Rules:
>Dubs get included on the compass
>Entries must have an image, a spot they want to be in, and some notes about their individual
>Images must be transparent PNGs, I'm not cleaning your white space
>Wojaks are the usual fair, but objects, MSpaint magic, and others will also be accepted.

Lets get this show on the road, folks.

The rot bugs might fit more a bit left of where they are now. They seem more emblematic of pure rot than either steel or flesh. If anything, they're depicted as fleshlike beings themselves.
So maybe shift rot bugs at least 1 or 2 to the left, and put skinner drone where rot bugs are now?

Also, why are the debuggers so far down? If they work for the nexus, they shouldn't be so far away from it. Plus it doesn't make much sense for them to be on the same level of rot as the rot bugs, not to mention the Rot Father.

The bug is rotten, and aligned on the steel axis because it's main 'rotting' interactions are with steel. The bug itself might not be mechanical, but the nature of it's rot is.

Flesh is a myriad of city-states scattered randomly all over the place, they're not really a nation as they have different cultures/ways to worship the flesh and thus all hate each other.
Nexus is a single steel metropolis where human life is impossible.

The one thing I'm wondering is if the Rust is the Rot for machines, or if it's something else entirely? Like, the Rot seems to transform things rather than just outright kill them, but does the Rust? Could be an interesting difference, in that the Rot transforms organic life, while the Rust is a force of entropy that outright destroys everything inorganic.
>>
>>87972172
Perhaps both Rot and Rust are merely symptoms of a grander overarching phenomena, one that reacts to sapient beings regardless of their material composition?

Don't have an image to use, but I'll give the origin point a go.
>Ros Empyrean Remnants
>Used flesh growth tech to keep themselves alive after the curse, but their minds couldn't keep up.
>Watch over Subject Ae-Gamma-42, but can't remember why.
>Have the technology to end the curse, but have forgotten how to use it.

>>
Wait so what's the rough timeline here? I definitely think everyone should be free to add whatever to the compass rn, but I'm just trying to connect the dots to see if i can come up with something interesting that would fit in with the rest.
>>
>>87984144
From my own piecing together from the opening premise. Bits of lore in the entires, and my own personal imagination
>In the year 2XXX humanity suffers a curse
>Natural birth becomes impossible
>99.9% of the time couples can't make anything happen. Children that ARE born are horrible monsters.
>Only affected humans on earth, or near earth. The lunar colony is still able to have a steady population.
>Humans start trying to find something, anything that will help their survival
>A group of genius engineers called "the shapers" introduce the Growth vats
>Essentially taking the human genome and artificially growing a human from it
>Over time, this process gets more faulty due to genome degredation
>Makes deformed flesh beings that the church starts to revere
>The vats are now sacred.
>Big schism, The 'old flesh' cult breaks off and decides to use cybernetic augmentation to get around deformities.
>The 'cult of new flesh' starts to graft more biotech from the shapers into themeslves

Meanwhile
>The Rot is the cosmic force behind the curse, or at least, something related to it
>The deeper down the augmented or biomodded path you go, the more risk of developing rot you have
>>
>>87984232
Also the pre 'schism' civilization was known as the "Ros Empyrean", and in their efforts to try and stop genome degredation created something that was immune to entropy entirely.
>>
>>87983703
The rot bug text disagrees though
>Rots flesh,
>Rusts steel
>>
>>87983703
This is surprisingly good so far
>>
>>87984288
Seems to me that Ros Empyrean is more the name of an experiment than a nation. I was thinking something a bit drier to keep in line with the comitee remnants. Maybe something like "The Great Union". I also thought AE-Gamma-42 might be something that shows up before the curse or the rot. Like, it's something that this stable society was experimenting with before the curse showed up, possibly connected to the Amnion.

>>87985608
It could be the direct cause of the curse. Perhaps it was created, and then nature/fate/whatever sensed it and sent in the Rot to counteract it before it's too late.
>>
which should be the next setting?
>>
>>87983703
The original idea was that some organization harvested cells from the thing in the bottom left corner and injected it into humans, either to find a solution to the rot or simply for scientific curiosity.
I couldn't figure out how to articulate this idea, so I just kept it vague.
>>

That sounds pretty good. Or maybe the rot is draining energy from people somehow, messing with pregnancies as a result. Like, there's a low level or rot that suffuses literally everything, and steals energy from them to feed itself. Maybe it's connected to Gamma-42's apparent immortality.

>>87987189
I imagine their experiments would probably have something to do with achieving some form of immortality. I mean, the Amnion is a scrap of immortal flesh from the dawn of the universe, so it'd be interesting either way, but corrupt politicians would probably want the immortality above all else.

What about removing that they rot flesh and just making them rot steel, but they stay where they are? Potential alliance between the Church and Bugs against Nexus.
>>
>>87996617
I think that makes sense the way things are right now. There's more Steel dedicated to the opposition of Rot Bugs than there is Flesh. Flesh don't seem to care about bugs at all.

This relates to the question of how Rot and Rust propagate. Are Rot Bugs the primary vector for spreading Rust?
Does Rot just spread to Flesh on its own, like a disease?
>>
>>87996879
Rot seems like something that spreads like a sickness, but your 'immunity' to it is determined by how much you've altered yourself biologically. Which ironically makes the peasentry from the vats and the nobles with rot-resistant organs more hardy than the working middle class who get fleshgrafts just to preform labor.
>>
>>87996879
Rot seems to spread like a disease, while rust is propagated by rot bugs. Or as they might be renamed, rust bugs. However, rust being included in a slot suggests that it has a force or power behind it.

Like how viruses are organic but non-living, maybe the substance being called rust is not normal rust, but something inorganic and alive. Like a metal-based bacteria. It exists in a symbiosis with rust bugs, which spread it to metal. The rust propagates itself, and the rust bugs eat the decaying metal when it becomes soft and weak.

You could just rename them as Bugs.
It's plenty clever without elaboration.
They're bugs as in insectoid, but also software bugs.
Maybe they're the concept of synthetic degradation given form. Neglected hardware and shoddily patched code that have congealed into something foul, cold, and alien. Repulsive cyber gremlins operating on a twisted facsimile of primal instinct; creeping through the shadows of civilization, infesting any untended machine they find and slowly defiling it until it devolves into a perverse breeding-bed for their kind.
Slap a slightly schizophrenic mecha-biological aesthetic onto their design and it could work.

I feel like these projects are always better when you crowdsource them. You get elaborations on ideas that you never consider. (For example. I thought at first it was all going to be a single city-state with vying factions. But it became a bunch of nation-states)

The big flaw in r/wojackcompass is that they don't use the charm of just asking others for their input. Same reason why collage threads on /v/ are entertaining.
So you get a more concrete vision, sure. But you lose a lot of the fun in the creative process.

> Premise: The universal constants aren't actually universal. Every star is sapient and the light which they shed restructures the fundamental laws of physics in accordance to their whims and temperament. The magnitude of influence which starlight exerts on reality diminishes by 50% per lightyear travelled - with the photons fizzling out of existence upon encountering stronger foreign starlight. Reality is highly fluid in the shadowy gulfs laying at the dim edges of solar domains, with these spaces being beholden to no consistent law or logic they are immensely dangerous but also potentially exploitable.
