Continuing with the magical stuff.

>Rituals and ceremonies
No matter how skilled, powerful or experienced a single wizard is, there are limitations to what a single individual can do, especially on the spot and without proper preparation. To help maximize and fasten the wizards’ magical efforts, there are certain options to do so. The first and most used is the preparation of a ritual or a ceremony beforehand. These ceremonies are designed to support the efforts of the wizard, reducing the energy the wizard needs to output, increasing the concentration or making the actual shaping of the magic easier. This allows casting more efficiently, spending less energy for the single spell, or conjuring spells much bigger and more complex than what the wizard could do on his own. These rituals often need multiple elements for their correct preparation, such as the adequate magical language, the application of certain physical elements or even magically enhanced music. Multiple rituals can be combined with each other to make casting much bigger and more complex spells easier and faster, but these rituals need to be compatible with each other, and incompatible rituals can have unforeseen side effects. The wizard needs to have the knowledge and experience to develop these rituals to their logical conclusion, as a badly performed ritual is going to be more often than not more dangerous than the spell itself.

> Magical Aptitude
Magic has always been seen as a rare gift. From ancient times, magical skills were seen as a gift from gods or spirits, blessing their chosen individuals so they enact their will upon the world. And even then, few of these individuals actually gained access to any kind of formal magical education, making proper wizards extremely rare. Nowadays, we have learned a lot about the magical gift, and how to detect and develop it.

We now know that nearly all people have an innate connection to magic. The ability to draw generate a minimum magical output is, after all, the bare minimum requirement to develop magical skills, and this seems to be something innate in near all sentient beings. However, this ability to draw upon magical energies and transform them into useful purposes is often too weak to be of any use. For example, if an individual needs decades of training, studying and meditation to be able to create sparks from their hands, in the end they will just use coals or find other way to create fire, much faster and safer. Simply put, the magical abilities of most of the population are often too weak to be worth the time investment needed to develop any skills of worth.
>>
>>89948266
People who are apt at magic need a particular set of skills, sought by the wizards in their students to evaluate their potential. The first needed skill is the ability to focus the minds and thoughts, something essential to reach the realm of thoughts and ideas. This is crucial, as an unfocused mind will not be able to visualize the desired effect. The second skill is the capacity to connect with the arcane energies around the world with relative ease. As arcane energies are the easiest and most plentiful ones a wizard can access, they are considered essential for magical studies. Thus, if an individual cannot reach them with a certain degree of success, they most likely will not be able to materialize their vision into reality. However, this can often be replaced by a good access to life energy, or finding energies through divine blessing or demonic compact, if one accepts the risks. Finally, a wizard needs the ability to output magical energies through themselves, as if they do not have that, they are
Without these aptitudes, it becomes near impossible, to do any kind of magic. The conditions on who is born with these skills are somewhat unknown. It is reasonable to assume that a biological element is necessary, as the natural connection to magic of the fey is anything to go by. However, in non-magically inclined species like humans, orcs or dwarves, it becomes a somewhat murkier subject. We do know certain magical dynasties, where some of the children of a wizard are capable of magic themselves. However, rarely all children of a wizard (even if both parents are adept at magic) can have the necessary skills to become wizards themselves, with the most frequent outcome being that none of their heirs being able to do magic in any significant way. Likewise, it is not rare to find commoners born with an aptitude for magic, never developing it due to not having the chance of formal education or fear and superstition of their own abilities.
>>
>>89948288
Many magic orders travel from population to population seeking young individuals to join their fraternities and learn the arts of magic. Once they arrive at the tower of magic, the wizard in charge will put the potential students to the test. These trials are often very hard, and only a select few are able to move on as full apprentices. Those who are not good enough can be allowed to serve in the towers of magic, or prepare themselves for another try a couple of years later, though this rarely works outside of dark rituals and pacts to open their mind and body to magic forcefully. Some of the most talented rejects can become sorcerers, which often go back to their towns of origin and serve as low-level wizards, self-honing their skills through study and practice.

If most mages belong to a guild / order - would they hunt down mages who didnt belong to an order?
And what about those who get magic power without training? Sorcerers? Warlocks? I mean, its not quite... proper is it? Bit lower class, really
And druids? We're trying to study the nature of the higher planes, and they want to go deal with ... I dont know, whatever beastly things those peasants get up to with their sheep
>>
>>89948560
>If most mages belong to a guild / order - would they hunt down mages who didnt belong to an order?
The orders do not have the monopoly on magic. Those rejected from joining an order are not forbidden from study magic on their own. Those are called sorcerers, and are generally much worse in magic, but without any official limitation of what they can do. Often end up as the town's wizard.

The only time orders put a bounty or pursue some wizards are those who have broken with the rules and oaths of the order, who become dark wizards or renegade wizards.

So its the Force and Skywalker-esque mystical bloodlines?
If there is any biological component to magical aptitude, then nobility/royalty would largely stem from magical lines, yes? Even if it does skip a generation now and then.
Which means all the more reason to marry amongst nobility - to keep the magic bloodlines "pure", and to maintain the power bloc.
>>
>>89949801
There is some genetic element involved, but it tends to be recessive, in a way. The sons of wizards have more chances of being more magically adept than the average, but they are still not guaranteed. Wizards, especially capable ones, are rare.

As for marriages between wizards, I imagine it is a common thing, though remember than the Order of Most Practical Wizards are celibates, and they are the biggest magical order in the world. Inner marriages and order politics do not match well, so these marriages are probably outside of orders.
>>
If its completely random, then the muggle powers would likely seek to control and harness magical power. Get the kids young, school them to loyalty, make them the foot-soldiers of the empire, etc.
In no scenario are the authorities going to let magic just sit off to the side. Look at Galileo or Socrates, and all they did was challenge conventional wisdom.
If someone is out there slinging fireballs, or turning people into frogs rather than pay their bills, the powers that be are going to have to react - or they wont be in power any longer
The simplest tool to achieve that would be licenced magery. Go to university, join a guild, be part of an order - these are all licenced professions. Accepted, understood. Maybe you pay a yearly fee, etc. Youre part of the system, and can - by and large - do your business in peace. Maybe theres certain rules "No casting Wish!"
Unlicenced magery? Magic without the consent of authority? Punishment.
Is it possible to have your magical "ability" removed?
>>
>>89949968
>If its completely random, then the muggle powers would likely seek to control and harness magical power.
Muggle power need to know where to look and what to look for in search for mages. Plus, they are mages, how are they going to train wizards if they themselves don't know magic? There are obviously state wizards, but as they are mostly independent, these are often less available than non-state wizards.

>In no scenario are the authorities going to let magic just sit off to the side.
Sure. Especially after the Magoclergy took over the Khenomeric Empire. But the actual control over the wizards is limited. Most nations are not big enough to do that, and those big enough to be able to do so have their own structures to watch over their wizards (even then, their attempts to control them fail sometimes, like with the Tower of Mastrass).

>The simplest tool to achieve that would be licenced magery.
That's why orders are useful. They are independent from the states, but they often keep the wizards in line for them. It benefits both. If you are accepted, congrats, you are a mage, but you follow the rules. Don't pass? You become a sorcerer, and since those are usually very weak, they are a lower concern. Break the rules? You become a renegade wizard, and you get a bounty put on you, and both the order and the state (probably multiple, due to dark wizards running away from the country) will chase you down. The only ones who do not fit this system are the self-taught ones, like druids and witches, or the clerics blessed by the gods.

>Is it possible to have your magical "ability" removed?
I guess?

Why would mages be celibate?
Do we feel there some connection between sexual frustration / sexual abstinence and magic?
If its a choice, without a religious context, its unlikely to be the largest order simply because... most people will choose magic + sex > magic + no sex
If its religious i.e. the largest, most powerful 'School of Sorcery' is associated with the largest, most powerful religion - that's an interesting story beat, yes?
And possibly leading into a "Magic outside the Faith is unnatural" backstory
>>
>>89950059
>Why would mages be celibate?
To be fair, this was a bit on the Island of Wizards original description, but I assume that it would apply to some degree to the others. Imagine the problems the wizarding orders would have if they allowed marriages within their wizards. Nepotism and politicking would be the death of them.

I imagine wizards are as sexually active as any other, it's just a matter of order politics. The wizards outside of the Island of Wizards could get married to non-wizards without any issue, I imagine. The ones in the Island of Wizards follow the celibacy tradition as it was one of the core tennents of the order (and the lesser orders within the Order of Most Practical Wizards are mentioned to not have to follow the rule, so it might just apply to higher echelons of the organization).
>>
You just know those old wizards are into some kinky shit. "Im going to summon a succubus, Algernon! You just watch me!" "You are so mundane, Tiberias! Im summoning three succubi! And a gelatinous cube!"

I like the idea that there would be quasi-religious or even fully-religious schools of sorcery, looking down on those outside the faith. And absolutely some would feel that they gain power / focus / aptitude from being celibate.

Squabbling schools of sorcery
>>
I suppose it comes down to power.

As in, how powerful are the average mages in society? Could we assume they largely top out at, say, the equivalent of level 10? And your "fantastically powerful" archmage in normal society is about as powerful as level 15?

If it takes 10 years study for most people to reach say "level 3 wizard" then the powers that be might be a little more relaxed because most mages would not be nation-ending threats

"Archmages" would be invited to all the right parties, treated very nicely, and given no reason at all to go renegade

The state might even subsidise schools of sorcery, to an extent - an Unseen University style scenario - where its better to let the wizards go off, and get fat, and bicker with the Dean of Unseen Runes rather than decide to overthrow the king, or drop a meteor on the city

Probably means that the punishment for renegade wizards is extreme
>>
>>89950057
The only ones who do not fit this system are the self-taught ones, like druids and witches, or the clerics blessed by the gods.

If druids/witches represent a continuation of rural magic/midwifery then there would absolutely be schools for that.
Then you could have an interesting divide where some schools of sorcery are focused on metaphysics, and higher planes (and fireballs!) and meanwhile, our cows have the flux, and only Old Tomm, the wandering druid of the shire, can help because he is wise in the ways of nature magic

Possibly thats even part of your aptitude - an inclination to certain forms of magical expression. Though if that were the case, you would probably have a neutral order going around testing people and identifying their particular magic talent and then sending them on

Could that be a thing? Every child at a particular age is tested? Very YA, to be sure - but tie it to a particular annual festival and it leads to some interesting cultural beats
>>
>>89950303
>how powerful are the average mages in society?
I assume the standart fully trained mage is pretty powerful, but not enough they cannot be overwhelmed with numbers, or surprised with a long shot from a cannon, a arquebuss or an arrow. There's also the fact that not all wizards are trained for combat, how difficult must be to subdue a wizard who specializes in healing? Or in magical theory?

>If it takes 10 years study for most people to reach say "level 3 wizard" then the powers that be might be a little more relaxed because most mages would not be nation-ending threats
I imagine that as well. That's why long lived races tend to generate more archmages, and why wizards tend to live longer lives.

>"Archmages" would be invited to all the right parties
Oh absolutely. I imagine there would be a dozen or so archmages at most (archmage is a title given, so the level of an archmage is not going to be the same depending on the region they come from). That's why the Island of Wizards is a big deal, due to the Council of 100 being composed 100% of archmages (and archalchemists and grand astromancers).

>The state might even subsidise schools of sorcery, to an extent
Sure, they probably keep an eye on them in exchange for some funding.

>Probably means that the punishment for renegade wizards is extreme
Sure. That's why Avangar is such a dangerous place. It has gathered hundreds of dark wizards over the decades, something that is really fucking dangerous.

>If druids/witches represent a continuation of rural magic/midwifery then there would absolutely be schools for that.
No, I imagine these would follow the more primitive apprentice-master system, with occasional councils as ways to share their knowledge.

>Every child at a particular age is tested?
No. That is simply impractical, the most probable thing is that the local wizard (either a mage or a sorcerer) meets someone with aptitude, and brings them to a wizard tower to test them.
>>
>>89950393
>Possibly thats even part of your aptitude - an inclination to certain forms of magical expression.
I imagine the wizard towers leave this to the individual apprentices. Better to leave them to specialize into whatever they want, once the basics are done.
>>
>Wizard Towers
Wizard towers are a common sight within the magical community of Giantstep. These tall constructions serve as both the residence and the research center for wizards, where they conduct their studies and teach their apprentices the arts of magic. Wizard towers are often outside of population centers, as most wizards pretend to keep their distances from most towns, though it is not rare to see wizard towers in capital cities that frequently hire the services of wizards. Their size also varies depending on the power and influence of the wizards who rule and have ruled them, as once they are created, the wizards who live in there will strive to increase their size according to their needs, with many towers visibly showing the different periods of construction. While towers are not the only kind of residence wizards occupy, they are definitively the most frequent and easily recognizable out of them.
>>
>>89951731
The origins of the wizard towers is believed to be caused by the prosecution of wizards out of the Khenomeric Empire. The fall of the Magoclergy and the banning of magic forced thousands of exile themselves from the empire. Many of them, however, decided to stay hidden in barely populated areas. Using many camouflaging enchantments, they hid their bases of operations from the eyes of the khenomeri authorities. Often, they built high watchtowers to watch over the horizon just in case the khenomeri witch hunters were around. This custom persisted once they were also forced to exile themselves, becoming a long cherished custom of wizards. Some of the oldest wizard towers are thousands of years old, and many end up growing both upwards and downwards at the same time, with many rooms deep underground.
>>
>>89951743
The construction of a new wizard tower is a complex process. They often start with a powerful wizard, with the influence and the resources to pay for the new construction, and not interested in their original tower for a myriad of reasons (personal ambition, desire for independence, search for a better location…) decide to build one. This is not as simple as it sounds, as often most nations monitor the magical activity within them, the creation of a new tower is often seen as a risk, and if the nation in question do not trust the wizard, they will put all sorts of blocks to the construction. Once the construction is approved, often by serving the nation during a couple of years or through high payments to the correct officials, the wizard begins the erection of the tower. The construction needs special wardings and enchantments, making the structure more resistant than an average building to magic, in case that there is a misfortunate magical incident. This, combined with the wizard towers being near entirely made out of stone, makes them nearly fireproof. Once the building is complete, the heirs of the original creator will attempt to increase and expand the structure according to their growing needs, especially if it becomes the residence of a magical order. It is also very frequent to see towers being built in pairs, connected with each other, when they are centers of teaching or they are the property of a particularly noteworthy wizard.
>>
>>89951757
Some towers that gain enough power and influence end up growing into full on towns, looking like a forest of towers. The most famous case of this being the Great Tower of Heliotrope, the biggest wizard tower in the world, the capital of the Island of Wizards and the central headquarters of the Ancient Order of Most Practical Wizards. It was built by Celin MagTow at the very center of Wanaidheain to serve as the focal point of the recently created order, and nowadays, it encompasses more than two hundred individual towers around the original Tower of Heliotrope, which is where the Council of 1.000 reunites. These wizard towers are reserved for the many activities the order develops, from investigation to teaching. Between the towers, many houses have sprung, serving as the domicile for the many public servants, bureaucrats or students working in the capital.

>Magical Orders
Magical orders are societies dedicated to the development, teaching and management of the magical arts. These organizations often play a very important role in local society, as they are the ones who not only keep an eye for any potential wizards within the population, they are also tasked to continue the magical studies and with the vigilance of their area of influence for any kind of magical mishap or threat. There are dozens of different magical orders around the world, usually functioning at a regional or a national level. The magical orders often work independently from local authorities and powers, but these often keep close ties with them, seeing that both entities benefit from mutual collaboration.
>>

Magical orders as we know them come from the ancient khenomeric days, with the Four Schools of Magic laying the groundwork. The Four Schools were tasked with many of the different duties most magical orders are responsible for, but unlike most modern magical orders, they were under the direct control and supervision of the pharakhans. After the banning of magic and the closing of the schools, many wizards outside of the empire sought to continue their studies, but without the numbers, the organization and the resources available in times past, they had to adapt into much smaller entities. These orders began as associations between individual wizard towers, encompassing a dozen or so wizards plus their apprentices, seeking to pool their resources together. After a while, some of these societies became too big and influential, which led to many different reactions by the local authorities. The fear of wizards, while not as pronounced as within the Khenomeric Empire, was still enough to make people worry, especially after the actions of the Magoclergy. Many local powers actively sought to disband these associations peacefully, while others made a deal with them. The relative success of these pacts left to the bigger empires to try to create their own system to control and monopolize the wizards, such as the failure of the Tower of Mastrass in Azan. The birth of the Ancient Order of Most Practical Wizards in the island of Wanaidheain was a clear anomaly in this process, as the order was founded with the full backing of the recently created state of the Island of Wizards. In many aspect, the Island of Wizards serves as a source of resources and manpower to the order as much as the order guarantees stability and order to the inhabitants of the island.
>>
>>89954703
While the Ancient Order of Most Practical Wizards has a scale and reach within the near entirety of the step, this is the stark exception, and not the rule. Most magical orders can barely have around a hundred wizards in total, not counting for the apprentices at any given time. This number is often good enough, as finding apt students is rare, and bigger numbers of wizards would end up causing worry to the local authorities. Many of these orders tend to help the local powers if asked, in exchange for a level of support and independence, and the local powers benefit greatly from the services of the wizards. The level of organization of these societies tends to vary wildly, from very loose associations of wizards with few ties with each other to highly regimented structures with heavy rules and regulations. The orders usually have a strict code of conduct and ethics, teaching their students the importance of the correct use of the magical arts. Some magical orders have specialized in a specific field of knowledge, but for the most part, they tend to not limit the knowledge their students seek, unless it directly clashes with the codes of conduct and ethics of the order. This is encouraged by the local authorities, as they see the good behavior of wizards as a necessity to avoid friction between the two.
>>
>>89954719
One of the most important tasks of the orders is the location of potential candidates for wizardhood. This can be done in the form of dedicated searches, but more often than not, it happens by complete coincidence. Once found, if the individuals accept to be tested, the order puts them under a series of challenges and tests, and then accept them or reject them depending on the result. However, it is important to remark that orders do not have the monopoly on magic. Those individuals rejected from joining an order are not forbidden from studying magic on their own, receiving the title of “sorcerers”, and while generally much worse in magic, they are not bound by the red tape and the limitations of a formal order. These sorcerers often end up as the local wizard, working in whatever they can be of use. If an individual is accepted into the order, they then become apprentices, and spend many years learning the fundaments of magic. Once that is achieved, they are free to leave if they so choose, though they are still bound by the rules and ethics of their alma matter. More often than not, they end up working for the order.
>>
>>89954729
A wizard who willingly betrays or breaks the sworn codes of conduct and ethics of their order is called a “dark wizard” or “renegade wizards”. These individuals are seen as dangerous loose cannons, both by the order and the local authorities. The order has the duty to hunt them down as part of their pacts with the local authorities, which often aids the order in the finding of these individuals. These dark wizards get a bounty put on them, and often than not their crimes are publicized heavily throughout any village and town that might give them refuge. The renegades who are captured are publicly judged and executed by the local authorities, with the orders collaborating so that the prisoner does not escape or retaliate.

so what is the deal with Orange Marquisates?

most of their lore is history based, but they seem to be a Renaissance era Europe/Mediterranean mix that has adapted to a cold climate

also, they don't have a religion

also Wübubao is supposed to be on the lake, but on the map it isn't, and there is contradictory info on whether it is still the capital or not

and brown hawk's capital is either sigfordia or citras, or did it move or get renamed during the revolution

>Necromancy
Necromancy is the branch of magical studies dedicated to the study of death, the preservation of life after death and the reanimation of dead flesh. Necromancy is one of the most dangerous and controversial fields of magic, and as such, necromancers are generally barred from most societies, as the general population reviles and fears them. Necromancy is one of the oldest fields of study in the world, but as it practitioners need to be hidden from the common people, its study and development is much more secretive than any other branch of magic.
>>
>>89959426
The history of necromancy can be traced to the ancient Khenomeric Empire. The School of Black Necromancy was first thought as a school of healing, as magic was at the time the most effective method of healing bar none. This field needed a great knowledge of the human body and its inner workings, and the school quickly set up to hire for them some of the most renowned medics and healers in the entire empire, with the most famous example of this being Vandervax. Their studies set in stone some of the earliest methods for wizards to expand their lifespans beyond one would assume possible, though most of the original knowledge of that time was lost. However, the eventual discovery of resurrection of dead bodies and its control over them completely changed the focus of the field. Soon the School of Black Necromancy became split through ethical lines between those who wanted to expand and preserve life while others wanted to defy and control death. The eventual victory of the latter faction, especially after the takeover of the Magoclergy, saw the split in the necromantic community complete, with necromancy turning into its modern iteration.
>>
>>89959438
The banning of magic in the empire and the closing of the schools of magic represented a harsh blow to all magical fields, with necromancy being especially reviled, as the authorities made sure to burn each and every item they could find in the School of Black Necromancy. However, the loss of knowledge was not as complete as they thought, as by this point many necromancers had learned how to keep themselves alive after death, with Vandervax the Vile considered to be the first lich to ever exist, and the only “true lich” in the world. Unlike other kinds of magic, which were looked with mistrust but tolerated and eventually accepted in some way, necromancy was never recognized as anything but dark and evil wizardry. Thus, most of the developments after the exile from the Khenomeric Empire had been done in secrecy, outside of the eyes of the authorities. The occult nature of necromancy has also caused many necromantic cults to appear, often pursued by the local powers. This has not stopped certain necromantic nations to appear, such as the Necrocracy of Okhost or the City-State of Mossovoy, and even the Gnoll Empire is highly necromantic, as the higher echelons of the nation are ruled by the undead.
>>
>>89959444
The inner workings of necromancy are steeped in mystery. However, we know that modern necromancy has three essential goals, from which the rest of the field branches out. The first goal is the preservation of one’s life after death. The necromancer wants to keep their soul attached to their body and in full control of it. This differs from just extending one’s life, as the necromancer’s body will eventually stop most of its bodily functions, entering a state of unchanging stasis, and by all means the body is considered dead. In theory, the necromancer can keep this state for as long as they want, though depending on the limitations on their own magical abilities it will eventually begin to wither. The second goal is the resurrection of a dead body, which is one of the darkest and most complex magical arts in existence. This is rarely successful, as the individual being resurrected cannot be dead for long before being brought back, as the amount of energy and concentration to bring them back grows exponentially the longer it stays dead. The third, and by far the most feared goal, is the resurrection of dead flesh as a puppet to command by the necromancer. This skill has become feared all throughout the step, as the hordes of undead have been used by renegade necromancers to attack and overwhelm their enemies in bodies, such as the case of Mossovoy. Plus, many cultures have beliefs that demand their dead rest in peace, and bring them back as marionettes is considered by many as sacrilege.
>>
What other elements do we need to clarify for necromancy?

On the 11th day of the 9th moon desert Ogre mages launched an attack toppling the towers killing dozens of Mage's inside.

Many suspect it was actually the work of the Joos as none of the jooish apprentice Mages came to work that day and have been seen dancing nearby instead.

Few also understand how Desert Ogres harnessed magic powerful enough to destroy not only the 2 wizard towers in 2 shots, but also the smaller 7th tower collapsing nearby without being directly hit.

the map is what is causing some of the confusion...

the capital of brown hawk on it doesn't match the wiki page, nor does the location of wububao (or the fact that it is still capital)
>>

According to the wiki, the druid-aligned marquissates:
>The towns are led by their elders, many of which have spent decades travelling the path of enlightenment. The decisions for the marquisate are decided by a council of elders done every year, in which they discuss both politics, economics and their progress towards enlightenment.
So they don't have a capital per se, just a place where the druids ruling the towns reunite from time to time, it is not a capital in the conventional sense.

>Wububao is not in the lake.
True. Give me a second, I'll fix it.

>Citras ought to be the capital of the Brown Hawk.
Also true. Unless someone wants to write something about the change of capital, Citras ought to be the capital.

The ways a necromancer develops their magical arts vary, but in general, all necromancy needs at least a minimum of life magic to work. While necromancers are as able to use other sources of magical energy as other wizards, to accomplish any of the three basic goals of necromancy they require at the very least a portion of their spell to come from life magic. This dependence on life magic increases the more ambitious the spell is, and no matter how good the necromancer in question is when accessing other energies, if the minimum of life magic is not met, the spell will not work. This source of life magic must also come from a being different that the one receiving the spell. For example, if a necromancer wants to increase their own life through necromantic powers, they cannot use life energy from themselves to power the spell up; they need to obtain it from other living beings. The need for life energy is generally quite high, and many necromantic spells end up requiring a certain level of sacrifices, especially when bringing someone back from death.
>>
>>89962451
Bringing someone back from the dead is the most complex of acts a necromancer can do. Generally, the process is very risky, and it is not guaranteed to work even if the necromancer in question has centuries of experience. The process has the best chances of success during the first 24 hours after death, and after that, the need for energy becomes so high and the rate of failure of the ritual so dangerous very few necromancers would be willing or able to pull it off. There are also problems with bringing one’s mind and soul back, as when they are resurrected, they are not guaranteed to be the person they once were, with many becoming completely different individuals, or realizing that they will never be fully whole again, ask for the mercy of death again. The success of this is so low that many necromancers recommend that, if one decides to become an undead with full control of their faculties, then they should turn their bodies into undead while they are still alive, something possible and much less risky, though something that still needs quite a lot of life energy.
>>
>>89962462
Becoming undead while still alive is a much easier task, and one necromancers often do to themselves. While this situation often needs a regular fueling of life energy, it does not need to come from sentient beings, as certain species of animals are good enough. Many renegade necromancers, however, prefer the use of captured sentient beings, as it is much easier and the effects last longer. Those turned undead, either by coming back from the dead and those turned undead while still living, are uncanny to the general population. People and animals immediately notice something is wrong with them, even if they do not look like they are rotting or decaying in any way. As undead, they lack many of the impulses and needs from the living: they do not need to breathe or eat, they can stay completely still for hours if they so choose, and their bodies do not generate any kind of heat. If their bodies do not receive frequent life energy to fuel the spell, they will begin to rot, as the body becomes free of its apparent stasis, until they finally rot away completely and die. The only way to stop this process completely is to turn into a lich.
>>
>>89962474
Liches are necromancers who have died, come back, and whose bodies have suffered a transformation that makes them immune to time, not needing to feed from life energies any more to stay in the realm of the living. The process of lichdom is highly dangerous, as it needs a great deal of sacrifices over a long period of time to achieve, and even then the limitations on the necromancers’ own powers can make them fail regardless. And even then, most liches are only what is considered an “unperfect lich”. These unperfect liches need to create “phylacteries”, items that anchor their soul to the mortal realm and feed upon the natural energies of the world. Its needs for energy are very low, and if properly created, they do not need any further sacrifices. However, if the phylactery is destroyed, the lich’s souls are separated from their bodies immediately, signaling the immediate death of the lich. “Perfect liches” are beyond rare, and it is believed that the only “true lich” is Vandervax the Vile. Vandervax’s body was altered irreversibly by the Battle of Empires, twisted into a mockery of life and death, but with his powers increased immensely. It is believed that the process of lichdom was developed by necromancers to try to imitate what Vandervax himself experienced that day that transformed him. “Perfect liches” are close to being “true liches”, not needing a phylactery to exist to keep their soul in the mortal realm, but without the same degree of changes that Vandervax suffered. One of the few known “perfect liches” is the Nameless, the current Gnoll Emperor.
>>
>>89962489
As for the art of resurrecting death flesh without its original soul, it is one of the most feared arts of necromancy. Necromancers can imbue some mockery of life to decayed flesh, and even full on skeletons, making them animated once again. However, they lack any kind of ego; they have no conscience or personality, and they only respond according to a series of orders and commands established by the necromancer in question. These undead can only do what their summoner commands them to do, and since their need for energy is relatively low, they can be brought forth in great numbers, especially if there is no real interest in keeping the body from rotting or deteriorating. As the bodies brought back are not alive in any sense, the necromancers are also capable of fusing dead bodies together to create powerful undead constructs, much more powerful, but needing more energy to power and to control. However, there are many limitations to the use of these beings. First, the undead has no conscience beyond a set of instructions and basic senses, and thus it will be unable to do anything on its own unless the necromancer in question takes direct control of it, something impossible when commanding a horde of undead. Second, the actual skill and strength of the undead is laughable, as an individual undead is easily bested due to the condition of its body, and while immune to pain, it is not immune to being broken. Third, if they are cut off from their source of energy, they will crumble down immediately. And fourth, wounding or killing the necromancer will make the undead enter a hibernating phase, where they will stand completely motionless until someone else commands them, or until they ran out of magical energy.

>>89961331
>So they don't have a capital per se, just a place where the druids ruling the towns reunite from time to time, it is not a capital in the conventional sense.

I was referring to this line of text:
"Under Druid control, Sunset City was given the native name of Wübubao. In line with Druid philosophy, most of the city was depopulated to local communes and villages, with the capital moved to a rural conclave close to the center of the Marqueset"

Regardless of what form the capital takes, it seems Wübubao isn't it anymore

Also, does Orange Marquisates have a religion?
>>
>>89962797
>with the capital moved to a rural conclave close to the center of the Marqueset

I think that is just a legitimate contradiction. The lore beforethat established that the druid marquissates do not have capitals, they have places to reunite the druid conclave. And the towns and cities rule themselves. It should probably be reworded to fit the previous stuff better.

>Also, does Orange Marquisates have a religion?
The only time it was mentioned, it was said they follow "a mix of human gods". So that was it.
>>
>>89963853
>>89962797

Re-reading that part of the lore, I feel like the author started writing it thinking about wububao being the capital, and then forgot mid-way, as nowadays, it is neither the capital (as there is none) or the place where druids reunite (that was where the >>89959132 put it).

So the thing we need to do is to keep the map from >>89959132 and then change the name of the conclave location.

I think existent lore about magic should now get tied into that magic system like the stuff stated about witch magic so far in the witchbog lore or the the four courts of the scatology wizards. >and illegaly selling them to bookhunters and catacomb antiquarians for high prices
Would Biblion sell books? Maybe copies of books, but never the original...
>>
>>89969747
>Would Biblion sell books?
it's not really one centralized collective but rather many different social groups so that's hard to answer. I'd imagine there's an effort to have at least one copy (preferably including the original) of any book in existence somwhere in xandrilex even if it's deep down
>>
>>89969845
At the same time there are rich and powerful private book buyers like kings, witches and wizards that want to own valuable or forbidden/banned books (preferably originals) as source of esoteric knowledge or as prestige symbols so that's where the bookhunters come into play

Since industrialized printing doesn't exist "copies" or rather facsimile produced by trained scholars in the finest work and with a great deal of time are not to looked down upon either.
They aswell can fetch extremely high prices especially if they are manufactured particularly gorgeous, fully illuminated and populated with grotesques and burlesque drolleries.
Many of them are made from and decorated with valuable materials such as mammoth leather, ivory, gold, magic ink, rubies, moonsilver and other rare gems with lavishly punched fore edges, magnificent bindings and spines. Another reason for a high price on the book market would be containing illegal or forgotten information including powerful spells, rituals and such. Such books can fetch absurd pirces despite an often inconspicuous, ragged or even ugly outward appearance that often makes them hard to find and identify.
>>
>>89969937
>I'm not sure if librarians from Biblion would give the originals, even if it's just to make sure the information isn't distorted or warped by time.
Yes but some of them might get robbed, be corrupt or just have lost "access" to the books being blocked off somewhere in the depths of the library. The list of "lost books" is long and only few individuals if any know their location in the vast librarycatacomb complex.

There are mentions of prints in the lore, the printing press is a thing here, so mundane books are probably easy enough to make. Magical books may lose some of their effects if they are printed instead of manually written by wizards, that could be much more problematic.

>printing press is a thing here
This honestly does not make much sense considering the overarching tech level desu. If it exists somwhere I imagine it being looked down upon and straight up banned in biblion since they are all about the craft and aesthetic of books. Reading them, looking at them, smelling them, inflating their prices, manufacturing them by hand and such. Industrialization efforts wouldn't fly there considering the millenia old tradition they have with and the importance they give to books as almost devine objects. The long lifespan of the librarianfolk would porbably add to the notion of preservation of the old ways.
>>
>>89970020
Many areas of the setting have a XVIIth level century tech, the printing press is definitively viable. As for Biblion, why would the people who care for books and written knowledge them most reject the printing press? Even if they prefer handwriting due to tradition, they wouldn't outright reject the printing press, due to the obvious advantages it grants.
>>
>>89970039
I'd argue they see it as a threat of their "book elitism" robbing them as a nation of their global importance and robbing them of their usp so to speak. There was a reason books where kept for a select few, manufactured luxuriously and written in latin in the middle ages beyond just availability of parchment. It's elitism and making books available to everyone conflicts with that.
>>
>>89970071
Perhaps when the press was invented there were discussions like that, but the more time it passes, the more they would be forced to accept it not to be outcompeted. And even then, I see Biblion more as archivists, not really interested in being the only owners of knowledge, just to protect it from disappearing.
>>
>>89970086
Yeah that makes some sense. When was the printing press invented because it didn't take hold for quite a while irl (prototypes existed long before gutenberg) and was basically just a modified wine press. Maybe they'd allow it for mundane stuff like belletrism but I doubt they'd allow it for religious texts, encyclopedias or arcane scriptures. Such books would still only be allowed to be made in scriptoriums by educated, professional and oficially approved scribes.
>>
>>89970154
Anything magical is still done through manuscripts, by hand, so that the magical effects are not lost. Religious texts would vary, as anything to proselytize would need to be produced as fast as possible, but the trully sacred documents are manuscripts.
>>
>>89970179
I can agree on that but I don't think it should be the majority of the books in circulation but a rather new technology in order to not rob books of their soul by becoming mass products
>>
>>89970193
The printing press is mentioned to be around during Azan's Scholar's Revolution , around the 5th dinasty. Seeing as it says that "The Church at the time was also an early adopter of the Printing Press, which was used to distribute holy texts among the people alongside primers to increase literacy", I imagine it either was invented by then or it arrived to Azan around that period (5th dynasty is between 300 BBE to 400 ABE). A bit sooner that I was expecting.

This is why we should clarify the tech levels of the world, at least of some items. Where do they come from, how do they spread, who uses them extensively and who avoids them... I imagine the more tech a place has the less dependant on magic they are and viceversa.
>>
>>89970228
Maybe tech is conflicting with magic in some way surpessing and disrupting currents causing spells to fail or have different effects and such. Vice verca magic might interfere with tech causing engines to malfunction and such. I think this could be a pretty good explanation for the different tech levels.
>>
>>89970254
I don't see how most technologies could interfere with the flow of magic. I think it's more reasonable that technological advancements are much slower, as we go from a post-classical society (with printing presses) around the Battle of Empires to current day, which is at most XVIIth century tech. It needs more than three millennia to go from one point to another, so I imagine magic makes most people think tech advancements aren't that necessary. That would explain why some of the most advanced places do not have big magical societies. Maybe it is also part of the magical creeds coming from the days of the fey, which would see technological advancement as a threat to nature, and they would disuade their followers from that. This would trickle down to modern magics, making them much less inclined to develop non-magical tech, or to power up tech with magic.
>>
>>89970281
Well iron does shit to fae, magic comes from fairies originally machines are made from iron, cause pollution and such yadyada. I think it makes perfect sense and provides a plausible explanation of how industrialization hasn't taken hold in most regions. How would you explain that otherwise?
>>
>>89970281
Also machines and industry exploits and often destroy nature which is a primary source of magic. They in a sense draw from the same source in different ways and therefore conflict with each other.
>>
>>89970290
Which nation would have the conditions to develop the industrial revolution and the changes that comes with it in agriculture and society? Even some of the most modern societies in the setting are early modern in how they function (Azan is an in between of absolute and oligarchic monarchy, Changrila is definitively an absolute monarchy, the Drow City are probably very aristocratic, Elanxa is an absolute monarchy, the gnoll are the gnoll... even Drunigzar, as advanced and quick to develop, they are close to a merchantilist society under an absolute monarchy).

The civilizations capable of industrialization are either not interested (the star people) or are so mad noone would imitate them (ludenites).

>>89970340
Also machines and industry exploits and often destroy nature which is a primary source of magic.
I don't think there is any major industrialization attempt beyond Luden, so industrial pollution is probably a non-issue to magic. Magical pollution is probably the bigger threat.

Also, the biggest source of magical energies are arcane energies. Life energies are limited to the amount of life around the wizard.
>>
>>89970372
>the biggest source of magical energies are arcane energies
That's true but as far as I understand it they are fluid and somewhat dependent on the environment eg fairy circles, monolithic structures, ritual sites, sabbath locations and so on. A magical forest getting cut down for example could change and weaken the magical currents running trough it since they are influenced by the soul and energy of the trees, animals, mushrooms, fairies and so on.
>>
>Extradimensional Realms
Over the years of magical studies, the existence of extradimensional realms and plains of existence has been proven many times. The exact amount of parallel realms to the real world is unknown, especially since many of the wizards who deal in extradimensional plains are secretive by nature or are destroyed before they can make their findings public, but so far, at least five realms have been identified, with another eight or so being suspected of existing. Some dimensions are empty and devoid of life as we understand it, being areas where logic is completely lost to our ability to comprehend, and our interactions with them are very specific in their nature. Others are areas where a facsimile of life exists, but in a much different way. These dimensions generally shine for being great sources of magic, as their energies can be harvested under the correct conditions to fuel wizardry. Our ability to fully study these realms is very limited, due to the sheer difficulty of both finding these dimensions and actually thinning the veil of reality between theirs and ours enough to get in contact with them. Our limits of this interaction also depend on the level of understanding and knowledge of the practitioners involved, which often requires a great deal of study and meditation from those involved.
>>
I'm not sure how to go from that. The dimensional stuff has not been developed much beyond that it exists. From what's written, I can identify at least five realms.

>The plane of arcane energies.
The place where wizards get their arcane energies. The closest to our own dimension, there's nothing but the flows of magic, moving in the form of tides.

>The realm of thoughts and ideas.
Another magical one. There is nothing material in this dimension, it is a place of pure thought, where wizards need to find the ideal necessary to cast their spells.

>The Succubi dimension.
The place where succibae (and possibly some other demons) come from. Explained in the succubus breaches and the witchelven pages.

>The realm of elementals
The place where elementals come from. For some reason they appear from time to time in our dimension, and go back to theirs once they are deprived of energy.

>The realm of the gods
Where gods live. Not sure if I should count this as a singular dimension, or something beyond that, though.

There are other mentions of dimensional shennannigans, such as the Maelstrom from Ortuga, the demonic realms that the drouchont dark druids, and so on.

Rules of physics and logic do not apply in the same way than in the real world. Thus, whatever moves between the dimensions is at risk of suffering a complete collapse of their own being, as the laws that keep them together suddenly disappear. While some dimensions are somewhat similar, with matter and energy following similar enough rules to that of the real world, other are so unfathomably different from our own that we cannot access them without certain death. Some can only be access in ethereal ways, while others one can only invoke something and never really cross to the other side.

After many centuries of magical studies, we have identified many different dimensions. In particular, we are particularly knowledgeable of five of these:
>>
>>89972424
>The plain of arcane energies.
The plain of arcane energies is the dimension closest to our own, directly overlapping with our reality. It is a realm of pure magical energy, moving around in tides that follow complex patterns, affected by both the conditions of its dimension and some conditions from ours. It is well known as the main source of magical energies in the world, and as such, wizards have studied it extensively. However, it is much easier to move energy from the arcane plain to our dimension than the other way around. As such, we have very little actual information about this dimension, as matter cannot be sent to it and sending one’s conscience to it through meditation offers little information.
>>
>>89972438
>The realm of thoughts and ideas.
The realm of thoughts and ideas is also another plain well known by the magical community, as it is even more essential to the arts than the plain of arcane energies. The realm of thoughts and ideas is a purely metaphysical space, where matter and energy do not exist. Instead, it is a realm of pure, unadulterated thought, as all the concepts that seemingly exist, have existed, will exist or could exist simply are. This space is where the wizards seek the pure ideal to be able to cast whatever spell they want. To do so, they cast their conscience into the realm, as only thought can exist in there. Once there, the mind seeks the desired effect and bring it to the real world, where the wizard will attempt to make it real by applying magical energy to it. However, the study of the actual realm is nearly impossible, seeing as the mind can only recall the desired ideal, and nothing else. Very few can recall anything, and those who do are limited to flashes and bursts of indescribable sounds and lights, nothing the mind can presumably comprehend.
>>
>>89972459
>The Succubus dimension.
The Succubus dimension is a realm well known in Giantstep, as it is the plain where the demonic succubae come from. Unlike other realms, the succubus dimension is one composed of matter and energy, with many of its rules of physics being very similar to our own, though with an immense degree of magic around. As such, one could cross the veil to it if they so wished. ”. Many stories come from those travelling from or to the land of excess, speaking of the creatures and horrors that can be found in them. Hellish landscapes, impossible land formations and unknown forms of life are present everywhere in the Succubus dimension. These areas are the realms of the succubae and many other demonic entities, which live in a society of true debauchery and torment. The succubae themselves are highly magical creatures, though most of them are just lesser demons, with little powers of their own. The wichelven praise the succubae, summoning them and offering them great sacrifices in exchange for power. The dark nature of the witchelven rituals have caused permanent rifts in reality, called the Succubus Breaches, where one may cross to the succubus dimension without any need of magical knowledge of any kind. The expansion of these breaches is considered one of the great risks to the world, with many suggesting the entire Witchelven Empire may fall into it if it does not stop its debauchery.
>>
>>89972477
>The realm of elementals
The dimension from which the elementals come from is as poorly understood as the elementals themselves. We know that, while it is a dimension where matter and energy exist, they do so in radically different ways than in our own. The constant need for elementals to cross into our dimension also makes many to suggest their magical output is lower than in ours. While wizards have been able to summon elementals from their dimension, it is in a form akin to fishing, where the wizards sends bait in the form of magical energy into their dimension, and waits for an elemental to come. However, elementals cannot be subdued or controlled, and thus, once they are in our realm, they have to be destroyed as soon as possible. The fact elementals do not die, but return to their own dimension also opens many questions about their true nature and that of their realm.
>>
>>89972499
>The realm of the gods
The dimension where the gods live is a mystery that seemingly evades any kind of wizardry study. The divine realms are simply beyond what one could comprehend with mortal means, and as such, studying their plane seems not only foolish, but heresy. Only those blessed by the divinities may have a chance to see a glimpse of it, and even then, they will be incapable of describing it or to transmit what they have witnessed to others.

>Demons
Demons is a general term that includes a series of extradimensional beings originated outside of the world of Giantstep. Many of the different plains that connect with our reality are inhabited by entities whose physiology are radically different from our own, and due to natural causes or through the summoning from wizards, they can arrive to Giantstep. Demons seem to feed from the energies in this world, just as wizards fuel their conjuring with energies from other dimensions. Demons have little in common with each other: some demons are made of solid matter, while others are but energy beings made of magic. Some demons are but beasts following their instincts, some are incredibly intelligent, planning complex schemes to get what they want. Some take humanoid shape, while others shift into incomprehensible forms. The only things that all demons share is their extradimensional origins and their need for magical energy, as well as a natural tendency for destruction. Unlike elementals, which tend to cause destruction as a passive part of their being, and then actively fight as they defend themselves, demons actively seek to harm those around. It has been speculated that they obtain power from our world, and that things as heightened emotions and suffering are particularly fulfilling to them. However, many wizards have been able to contain and subdue some demons, either through magical chains, keeping the being enslaved to the will of the wizard, or through compact. Both of these options are highly risky, as the demon will always try to one up the wizard, abusing the terms established or getting free of their binding.
>>

So about the tech levels. Seeing as the printing press was invented by 400 ABE and possibly much earlier, I imagine that its spread actully was slowed down due to two things: the authorities' control over the device, and the lack of cheap paper. The second one is important, as no matter how fast the printing press prints, if you don't have enough paper or other support material, you are not going to have many copies of books. Thus, the paper was invented much, much later, which is why books were rare despite the printing press being a very early invention.
>>
Finally found the southern giants. They were mentioned in the Zulutaur Steppes.
>>
>Southern Giants
Southern Giants is one of the many giant-spawned species living in Giantstep. They are one of the rarest members of the giant-spawned, to the point many believe they are going to become extinct in the next centuries. As all giant-spawned, they are massive, measuring 7 meters of height, but unlike the rest of the giant-spawned, they are surprisingly thin. While their width is considerable when compared to smaller species, proportionally, southern giants look emaciated. They have very long hair, which grows to their hips, and often becomes populated by all sorts of birds, which use the hair to protect themselves from predators. Their eyebrows also grow very long, reaching all the way to the jaw. They do not have beards, as the skin of their jaws is nearly diamantine in hardness, as the density of the bone is high enough to make their faces somewhat elongated due to the weight. This also makes them have their mouths agape most of the time.
>>
>>89992805
Southern giants are highly reclusive, preferring to move around the land feeding their ox herds. They are highly religious, following a very spiritual culture that believes in harmony with the spirits of the land. However, they believe these entities are highly mischievous, and they attack those who do not offer the proper respects to them. As such, they wear ritual masks near constantly, only taking them out when they eat or sleep. They dedicate quite a lot of time painting complex patterns into the masks, changing them constantly to keep the spirits at bay. This also makes them very reluctant to approach to those without masks, as they believe the spirits will judge them poorly if in company of those who do not pay appropriate veneration. As such, they always move through areas that are sparsely populated.
>>
Also, I've been thinking on the Chakobsian Emissaries, and maybe those should go into the monsters list, rather than in the sentient species list. Their description is as follows:

Emissaries – This is a catch-all name for the wide range of beings the Yaguarans consider to be the emissaries of their gods. Due to their rare nature, many are uncategorized, but some have been identified as demons or dark animal spirits, while others are perhaps “far outsiders”.

Ok, so I'm going to try to complete the bestiary. Instead of adding more critters, I'll see if I can give all creatures some basic description, and order all those that already have it. It should be easy enough, there are only a couple of creatures that trully need big descriptions. Also, we will need to update the images we have into the wiki.

Also, what else does it need to be explained or developed? Most of the nations are complete, with a couple of exceptions in the bigger powers. The history of the world is quite well explained. The sentient species are more or less developed as well, and only a few remained to be described. The magic system has also been described quite a lot these last days. The bestiary and the herbarium are also quite complete. Even the monsters have been described to some extent.

What else is there? The geography and the climate are the only things I can imagine they need it the most, and even then, we have a solid template and rules for both.

Considering the lore has reached a pretty solid state, we could finally start discussing the rules. That and making an abridged version of the lore so people can actually know what's going on without deep diving into the wiki.

Agricultural Behemoths are massive creatures, with a strange and misshapen appearance. Their body is similar to that of rhinoceros, but somewhat hunched. The hunch is composed of powerful muscles, as they need it to move their oversized head, which almost composes one fourth of their entire body. Their cranium is somewhat flat, with small beady eyes and no nose. Their mouth is massive, with multiple rows of teeth, despite the fact their diet consists of grain. They have two long tusks at each side of their head, which grow and fall every couple of decades. These tusks can be moved up and down independently, though not to the sides. Their skin is leathery and wrinkly, protecting them from most forms of harm. Their legs are somewhat short, and this, combined with their tremendous weight, makes them slow and lumbering.

>Anemone Lion
The anemone lion is a species of mammal that lives in the Zulutaur Steppes. A strange symbiotic creature, it combines two organisms together to create a powerful predator. While the feline itself is smaller than many of the predators in the region, it is fast and resilient, capable of chasing down prey for longer than its competitors. However, this meant that its body is more fragile and vulnerable than other predators. The solution is its symbiotic relation to a species of land anemone. The anemone's tentacles are highly poisonous, boasting a paralyzing toxin that slows down prey with surprising speed, while the anemone lion itself is immune to its effects. This means that anything that attacks the lion will end up paralyzed before they can actually cripple or kill the lion, which will allow it to turn the tables on the attacker. This also means that the anemone lion is a very effective predator, only needing to attach itself to the potential prey to stun it, leaving it open to bleeding damage or a bite to the throat. However, this comes at a price, which is the anemone needs a lot of water to survive, even if it's adapted to the land lifestyle. Thus, they are usually near bodies of water, only moving away during the rain seasons. If a patch of skin is left without anemone, the lion becomes highly vulnerable, as its skin is very thin and brittle, depending on the anemone for protection, and it only has fur on its legs and tail, the only parts not covered by the anemone. The anemone lions hide their heads under the mass of anemone tentacles, only bringing it out to eat. The anemone lions are solitary creatures, unlike other species of lions, not working in packs.

Ankylosaurs are a species of dinosaur that lives in areas between the Mona Ki Ngi Xica Savannah and the Eldritch Jungle. A creature of seven meters of length, their body is covered to the brim with ossified bone, giving them an armored appearance. This allows the ankylosaurs to move around without fear of most predators in the area, since neither slash nor bite can really break this defense. Thus, the ankylosaurs can peacefully roam the land grazing. However, their level of intelligence is very small, and can scare quickly, which can be used by smarter predators, such as lions, hyenas and humans. They will surround the creature and try to aim to its neck, unprotected by bone. Other technique used for hunting them is to just exhaust them, since a creature this ponderous will end up overheating under the scorching sun.

They are very fast and agile, due to them having two pairs of wings, one main pair of upper wings, and a small pair of shorter wings near their legs, used for quick maneuvering. They live from hunting the many swarms of insects eating the garbage from the environment, often following a diurnal lifestyle. During the night, or during stormy seasons, they seek protection under some of the more solid parts of the garbage patch. Their small size and more limber disposition make them very fragile, causing them to have very short lifespans.

Bile flies are a species of insect living in the Sea of Bile. They are the size of a small seagull, feeding off the organic material floating in the Sea of Bile. They have a greenish skin and small fur that protects them from the salt, the muck and the humidity of the air. Their eyes are highly sensitive, and are able to see the effluvia of rotting meat for miles. The bile flies move around constantly in search of organic matter, eating whatever is floating in the surface, which makes them victim to many ambush sea predators in the area. Their main objective is to find a major carcass floating in the water. Once they do so, they will lay thousands of eggs in there, with their body splitting apart due to the effort, and dying as a result. The eggs will hatch and begin eating the carcass at an astonishing speed, with the larvae being highly resistant to salt water. Once they become adults, they will begin this process anew, flying all around in search for a carcass. Bile flies are all born pregnant, so as to not need a couple if a floating body is found.

Bile mosquitoes are a species of great insects that live in the sea of Bile. A creature the size of an albatross, they feed of floating blood, both spewed and floating and from the sea giants themselves when they surface to breathe. Sea mosquitoes are able to stand still above the surface, with their legs able to grasp the bile and use it as a support, not sinking due to their incredible lightness. Sea mosquitoes lay their larva directly in the ocean, letting them drift away to find whatever organic matter they could come across, adhering to it and feeding upon it. To compensate for the low chances of finding something, they put astonishing quantities of eggs. They can cover great areas of the sea, and slowly split apart while drifting away from each other, to cover the greatest amount of distance. If there is no food around, cannibalism is a frequent act between the larvae.

>Bugcatcher Slime
The bugcatcher slime is a species of slime present in most humid forest in the world. Taking a step aside from many slimes in the world, the bugcatcher slime takes a more solid appeareance and texture, looking much more solid and rigid that other slimes in the world.

It also has distinctive parts, with two clearly differentiated halves. The exterior is where most of the slime's "organs" reside, and it has the diverse coloration expected in most species of slime. The exterior does not cover the inner part fully, leaving a great gap. This gap emmits a sweet scent that attracts a lot of insects, from ants and termites to flying bugs. Once they enter, they are trapped in the muccus inside and dissolved, feeding the creature. The interior is also reinforced with particularly sturdy slime walls, should something akin to a mouse or a bird enter instead, and threaten to damage the creature from within. This is important since the bugcatcher's nucleus is very near the feeding walls, and damaging it would kill the slime by making it unable to process food.

Every once in a while, an insect will enter the bugcatcher's interior and escape, covered in dust. This is in fact how bugcatcher slimes reproduce, covering the insect in spores and leaving it to spread them throughout the forest.

Bugcatcher slimes are very small, never growing bigger than the size of a small dog. They struggle to adequately feed bigger bodies than that, and it is frequent to see dying bugcatcher slimes due to growing more than they can provide for.

The butterfly sailfish is a species of fish commonly found in most oceans of the world. Its elongated size is adapted for speed, darting to catch the fish of schools one by one. They have a sharp sword nose, mostly retracted most of the time, and comes out when hunting or when fending off a predator. Its most unique aspect, however, is that its dorsal sail has divided into two, with very cartilaginous and covered in skin, almost in the pattern of a butterfly. The butterfly sailfish can open these fins after they jump from the water, using the momentum and the fins to sail over the ocean at surprising speeds, and with a considerable degree of control. They cannot breathe outside of the water, but these method allows them to attack schools of fish both from below and above, and it also helps them disorient their natural predators.

The cannon cockroach is a species of insect from Scimitarian. They are similar in many ways to the common cockroach, but with two distinct differences. First, the cannon cockroach cannot flight, having replaced its wings with a bigger and denser abdomen. Second, its head is much bigger than regular cockroach, with most of it occupied by a system that allows it to spit certain kinds of acid to defend itself. This acid causes a great deal of itching when in contact with the skin, and can cause important wounds in smaller creatures. Due to the sea trade, this creature has expanded throughout most of the world's coasts.

Due to its unusual anatomy, it has lost its ability to jump, and it needs to catch its prey using its prehensile tongue. It will coil around the tree branches to search for bugs, and it will catch them due to its excellent vision and longer than usual tongue. Its main defense is a poison coat that's higly hallucinogen, which will leave the creatures who attack it stunned and unable to do. The faarowt druids use this poison to mix concoctions and substances for meditation.

>Common Slime
The Common Slime, also known as Regular Slimes, are the most frequent species of slime in the world. Its strange body has a different colorations, taking very colorful patterns, which many experts believe these are the equivalent of organs, managing a different bodily function each. Their exterior is sticky and gelatinous, relatively sensible to threads from the wild. They are able to live as parasites, eating away anything organic that enters in contact with it. Their growth is very slow, and generally their size never surpasses something beyond a human eye. However, if protected from predators, they technically can grow indefinitely, and there have been many instances of slimes growing big enough to be comparable to houses. Many species of insect consume the common slima, as well as many slimes eat weakened insects that cannot escape their sticky exterior. Once trapped, the slime will slowly dissolve their bodies and turn them into nutrients. The Common Slime is on the base of many food chains, since it's very nutritious and has little in the way of defenses, so it's eaten by many herbivores.

Their reproductive cycle has two options: the first consist of a singular common slime splitting in two, each holding enough parts to survive in the wild. The second is through maduration, part of the slime will send spores that will travek using the wind to move great distances.

Due to the need of the common slime of high amounts of water, it's commonly seen near rivers, though never close to sea water, as the salt blocks its growth and impedes its reproductive cycle.
>>
>>90001909
It is a very primitive species of slimes. Unlike many of the world's slimes, it does not have a nucleus that governs its behavior, so it grows in seemingly random patterns and has little to no movement outside of growing. However, this also means that killing a common slime is more difficult than one might expect, since cutting a bit from the slime will inevitably create two slimes, instead of the cut bit dying of as the result of separating it from the nucleus. This is why is recommended to thoroughly cook common slimes before consumption. While they can be eaten raw, they can cause incredibly painful stomach cramps, as the slime tries to fend of the chemical attack within the creature that has eaten it, as long as even one portion of the eaten slime is alive. This is why slimes should not be ingested by infants. Death by eating a common slime is extremely rare, however, unlike other, more dangerous species of slime.

Compsognathus are a species of reptile living in the lands of Eastern Chakobsa and the Mona Ki Ngi Xica Savanah. A diminute dinosaur, barely a meter of lenght and less than half a meter of height, they are very effective carrion eaters. They will move in groups of 20-30 around the land, searching for recently deceased animals, and quickly eating it once found. However, they are also able to hunt, though their fragile constitution makes this a risky proposition. To compensate for this, their bite has an anaesthetic effect, and with enough bites the victim will be dazzled and confused. This poison is not particularly effective, and only works on older or sick prey.

Typically observed in the seas around both Great Frozen Glaciers, this massive filter-feeding cetacean lives beneath and around ice. Normally peaceful, in times of duress or intraspecfic competition, they use their namesake weapon. Under the roof of their mouth, they possess baleen that forms enough tension to fire swallowed ice, that, smoothed by the tongue of the whale, becomes a spike. This can easily kill or maim a whale, and can cause solid damage to a ship. It is believed that this ice mouth crossbow is primarily used for fights between males during mating season, though both male and female crossbowheads can fire ice in this manner.

Once the cuckoo lizard is born, it will look identical to a chick, with its true appeareance only surfacing after two weeks. It then will grow very fast, eating both the farm fodder and the chicks (when the mother isn't looking). The frog uses it as a prehensile limb to attach itself to trees, and when combined with the frog's natural jumping abilities, it makes for an excellent arboreal species. The local Chotës need to pay attention to them, since they can be quite well camouflaged, attacking from far distances with their tongues, and they do not reject eating chotës. Furburaus are strange creatures, the result of a magical experiment gone wrong.Believed to be originary from Drouchont, they are mostly seen now in the slums of the cities of Tarot and the land of the Astromancers, where they are treated as pests and hunted down. They are dangerous creatures, attacking unsuspecting people during the night, and feeding exclusively off human flesh. They consist of a body around the size of a domestic cat, with a mouth that occupies most of it. Its body barely functions, always showing rotting bits even if at the peak of their health. Their multitude of spindly legs allow them to crawl over many surfaces, using this to hunt humans. They will climb to a hidden high spot, open their mouth as much as possible, and then fall over their prey, trying to chomp on its head, or at least rip off a chunk big enough to eat its brain. Their reproduction is very slow, as only furburaus that have been feeding for a continuous time can reproduce, laying a single egg. They are asexual, and all furburaus are nearly identical. Luckily for the human authorities, the furburaus are highly sensible to light, so the nations where they have been spotted dedicate a lot of efforts to light up their streets propperly during the night. Also, they emmit a very particular smell, and thus they can be detected by hunting dogs. They are not capable of surviving in the wild, as many creatures are able to take them down due to their uneven proportions and sensibility to sunlight. Hunting and cleaning parties go to the sewers every week just in case a colony of furburaus is discovered, since damp and dark places are perfect spot for furburau to breed.

However, the Giant Sarcosuchus have a bitter rivalry with the Swamp Spinosaurus. The Swam Spinosaurus have learned that, if they can avoid the first strike of the crocodilians, they can use their powerful claws to flip them upside down, leaving their soft underbelly unprotected. The babirusa can be scared away easily with fire and loud noises, but if the babirysa is hurt or thinks their lives are in danger, they will become fierce, charging at the threat with their six pairs of tusks and horns. These are the size of a human arm, perfectly capable of impaling a creature. Easily identifiable due to its elongated figure, it is one of the fastest creatures of the sea, thanks to its powerful musculature and six pairs of pectoral fins and powerful tail. It detects its food using a wonderful sense of smell, as well as an excellent vision, using four pairs of eyes. Once discovered, it is able to dart towards its prey and then use its masive jaws to wound it. Despite having powerful jaws, strong enough to crack most shells and carapaces, it prefers to wound its victims, causing death by blood loss. This is because, despite its strength, its very vulnerable to attacks from other sea creatures, and needs to avoid confrontation when possible. This means that the Great Worm Shark is itself victim to bigger sea predators, though they usually need to ambush it in order to get a hold of it.

>Green Crab

The only real source of nourishment in the deep is a species of photosynthesizing crab, the so called Green Crabs. These flat crabs have evolved to live in symbiosis with a species of algae, which covers most of its body. During the few hours when the sun is up but the temperature is not scorching hot, the crabs will go out and bathe in the sun, all while the algae photosynthesize and feed off the crab’s waste, turning it into more algae that the crab can then eat. Once the temperature is too hot, the crabs go back to the tunnels to rest in the pockets of water. During the night, the crabs also look for different kinds of minerals needed for the correct growth of the algae. This has allowed the crabs to become quite widespread, moving through the interconnected pockets of water, and many creatures have evolved to hunt them.

Probably needs a bit of a rewrite to present it better. Also needs an image.

>Green Slime
The green slime is a species of slime typically found in the northern areas to the swamps of Northern Gianstep, and they are very frequent in the Bayukmen marshes in particular. This species of slime is one of the few that can actually developed complex movements, actively hunting down its prey instead of being a passive predator. The slime generates many tendrils from its body, moving around the area in search of signs of life. Once it finds something, it digs up a hole below itself to anchor its body, while its tendrils slowly spread around. The slime adopts a darker tone when on the hunt, mimicking a rock full of lichen. Once something gets in contact with the tendrils, they attach to the prey, slowly gaining a hold of it, while moving more tendrils towards it. The slime will try to suffocate its prey by swallowing it whole, after which, it will begin to digest it, sometimes the process starts while the creature it's still alive. The Bayukmen have used these creatures in the past as a natural line of defense against the bog witch, having learned how to deal with them without being attacked by them, herding them towards the border and eating whatever entity comes from the other side.

>Happy Willy
Happy Willys are peaceful creatures that live in the northern corners of the world, following the undersea currents that their favourite prey use to move and feed. They are very amicable creatures and will attempt to interact with most ships they see, driving away the fish while doing so. Traders and military ships see them as good omens, since their enormous size keeps most predators at bay, and have even been tales of rescued sailors brought to the shore by Happy Willies. Fisher fleets, however, hate it, since most fish will flee from them, and thus they will have very poor catches. The only ships they actively avoid are kentgorodian hunter ships, since they know the danger they represent for their lives.

So what are they? Are they fish? Mammals? Reptiles? They need physical description.

They fly around searching for small animals, usually those alone. They then will dive towards the victim, using their beaks to ram them as fast as possible, targeting the heads, hence the name. If the attack fails and the victim fights back, they will try to fly away as fast as possible, since they are mostly cowardly creatures. Their beaks are incredibly hard and resilient, which impedes them to fly for long periods of time. Hence, they stay at the treetops until they get hungry. They are also very good scavengers, though they prefer eating brains due to their nutritious value.

>Hippokraken
The hippokraken are a variety of different species of fish that live in the southern seas, particularly around Scimitarian. Their size range from small enough to live within coral reefs to big enough to be a threat to local ships. Their upper bodies are similar to sea horses, but the lower half is composed of about a dozen or so tentacles. These tentacles help the hippokraken move, but they also help them grab to algae, coral and rocks to feed off nectar and algae. The bigger specimens of hippokraken are also herbivore, floating through the currents in search of plankton, but they are still considerably dangerous due to their tendency to mistake ships for food. This can be legitimately dangerous for the crew, but an experienced captain knows that hippokrakens spook easily by loud noises or strong smells, so they will keep a barrel of scents or any other odorous material to scare the creature away before its curiosity damages the ship. The hippokraken are bioluminescent, emitting coloured lights from their body during the mating season, or to scare away predators during the night.

Horned Bats are a species of bat living in the swamps of the Crimson Plateau. A small flying rodent, it is quite sturdy in comparison to other species of bats. In fact, one of its main methodes of defense is to fly at high speed towards the potential thread, headbutting the oponent with its reinforced skull. While this isn't particularly harmful, especially against the giants of the region, they are very precise, and tend to go for the eyes or the temple of the head, thus caussing concussion or disorientation. They eat bugs and frogs from the swamps, catching the bugs within their sticky beard and eating frogs by biting them and leaving them to bleed, before eating their liver.

>Jumper Lizard
The "Caxtihn", also known as the Jumper lizard, is a small species of reptile found in the jungles of the Terrania Freeholds, but it has begun to expand to other forested areas of the world due to trade. The Caxtihn are small lizards, around the size of a human hand, that eat fruits and insects they can find. They have four pairs of limbs: two pairs of back legs to walk around and climb trees, a pair of arms that end in two digits used to grab their prey or any given fruit, and a pair of wings, used more for gliding than actual flight. They jump from tree to tree searching for food, usually climbing to the top of trees and jumping, gliding to their destination. Their excellent vision helps them find prey, and their antennae help them sense predators from considerable distances. Many experts claim that they have a level of intelligence similar to cats, tolerating the presence of sentient races as long as they are not a threat to them. They have become very popular as a pet within the drunig colonies in the Terrania Freeholds, since they are both a very exotic pet, relatively harmless (their small size and small teeth mean that they can't really harm humans even if they wanted to) and very low mainteneance. Trade of these creatures meant that some areas of the world that trade with Drunigzar have seen populations of these creatures escape and proliferate in other areas, such as the Forest of Bloody Vengeance, the Littlestep forests and even the Fungest.

>Kelpie Shrimp
The kelpie shrim is a species of crustacean that lives in the hot and template seas of the world. A creature twice the size of a human, it has a very tough but flexible exoskeleton, which is constantly renewing as it grows. To protect themselves, it is full of sharp spikes, allowing them to ram any would be predators with the head spikes, or turn around to stop the bites. This means the predators will need to turn the kelpie shrimp to the side, since its underbelly is much softer and vulnerable. They are bottom feeders for most of the time, but they also frequent some of the fields of kelp in some areas of the ocean, since they also eat many of the kelp parasites. They have fourteen limbs: eight small appendices to crawl between kelp and at the bottom of the sea, four fins that allow them to swim effectively, and a pair of powerful horse-like front legs, used to fend off predators. The "kicks" of these creatures are extraordinarily strong, and help them protect them from attacks to their underbelly. It needs the protection, since despite the appeareances, it is not a particularly fast swimmer, at least compared to other sea fauna.

It is greatly appreciated by fishermen due to its excellent taste, though hunting it in areas with sea elves is forbidden, as they form part of their customs and rituals.

They are also capable climbers, going up trees to get to the coconuts and other fruits. Once they are up and they have thrown the food to the floor, they will jump down, slowing their descent down by using a pair of wings they have under their carapace. These wings are strong enough to keep the creature from plummeting to the ground, but due to the crabs' weight, they cannot fly or hover. To reduce their weight, these crabs' shells are quite light, and despite their strength, they avoid the sea as much as possible, since many predators are able to quickly eat them.

The Matryoshka Cat is a species of feline native of Zemyland. At first glance, it is near indistinguishable from regular cats from the rest of the world, outside of its slightly bigger and stronger build than the common domestic cats. However, when presented with a big enough threat it cannot run away from, they will begin to produce small copies of itself, puking them and attacking whatever it considers a threat. The older a Matryoshka cat is, the more copies can produce, and the more copies there are around, their behaviour becomes more rabid and violent. It has been documented that, in the wild, a dozen or so Matryoshka cats can join together to spawn dozens of these critters, capable of fending off monsters many times their size. Outside of that, Matryoshka cats seem to behave just as any domestic cat would, and they are commonly seen in houses of older people. Families will avoid getting close to the Matryoshka cats, seeing that children might cause the cat to lash off in this way.

Matryoshka cats can also reproduce using this technique, being capable of essentially asexual reproduction, although they will try to mate with other cats the old fashioned way. The asexual reproduction method is rare, however, as these copies have very low chances of survival once spawned, frequently dying after a couple of hours if they don't get immediate support and care.

They then wait for birds or mice to eat the fruit, and when they are close, they strike. While their poison is not particularly potent, it is incredibly fast, making quick and nimble animals freeze solid. Afterwards, the tick will drink their fluids until they are a dry carcass. Humans and other bigger creatures are mostly unharmed by the venom, though they will have their bitten limb totally numb for hours. Farmers are not sure whether they are a good creature that keeps pests away or a nuisance that will ruin their day if they are not careful.

The mimic slime is a species of slime present in most humid forests in the world. They are able to somehow adopt a similar form of those creatures, even managing a certain degree of movement, giving it the impression of a sick or wounded animal. This attracts predators, who will try to eath the mimic slime. Once they bite it, the mimic slime will either rupture and release all of the liquid or be swallowed whole. This is part of its reproductive cycle, as its spores can only travel within the organism of other animals, and grow within their droppings. Once outside, the mimic slimes grow fast. This species is very small, barely the size of a tiny mouse, and has a life cycle of barely three months.

Thus, they have spread all around the region, being creatures pampered to no end by their owners. They have many sizes and colours, but they always share the fuzzy feathers hiding most of their legs. When scared, they tend to jump as high and as fast as possible before sprinting out of dodge, something they can do easily enough. They have six eyes, great for seeing in the dark, probably as part of their pest-control design. They are known to not be able to survive in the wild, as they are too docile to fight predators and lack the strength to hunt for themselves, though they are very good at hiding. The Moth Albatross is a massive winged insect that lives in the eastern side of Giantstep. Its wingspan is one of the biggest ever recorded on an insect, easily surpassing many birds around the world. This allows them to glide all across the world with very little stamina loss, using their wingspan and their relatively low weight to get carried by the wind currents. They generally move towards the milder areas of the world depending on the climate, moving northwards during summer and southwards during winter. They lay eggs twice a year, which they will carry over their own bodies. The Moth Albatross can only fly, its legs have shrunk to the point of being unable to hold their weight, and thus they carry their larvae within sacks added to their bodies. Once hatched, they are capable of immediate flight, and thus they never need to step on the ground. Their diet consists of anything they can get while flying, from seeds to insects to small birds, they will use their large size and a strange stunning dust generated by glands all around their wings and body to dizzy their prey until they are weak enough to be caught mid air. However, this tactic doesn't work against bigger and more aggresive animals, especially considering how light Moth Albatross actually are. Thus, they spend most of the time at really high altitudes, searching the land below with their incredibly accurate vision.

>Motherly Stork
The Motherly Stork is a species of bird that lives in the lands around the Great End Peaks. A creature taller than a human, it flies around, seeking rough but protected mountain peaks and wall caves to set up their nests. They are one of the most feared and hated species in the region, due to their choice of diets. While the adults have a normal diet of rodents, fish and other creatures from the wild, the chicks can only eat human babies. Thus, the motherly storks will travel far distances around the land, seeking to take unprotected babies to take them to their nests. They are able to fly while carrying big weights due to their two pairs of strong wings, and with their keen vision, they can watch over great swathes of land. Once they fnd a baby unprotected (the biggest known victim of the storks was three years of age), they will quickly grab it, making sure the baby is unharmed on their claws, as they need the baby alive. Once they reach the nest, the stork will keep the baby alive and fed as much as possible, protected from the cold by keeping it warm by using their body. The stork will keep it alive, since the chicks will only eat it if the baby is still alive. This way of life, combined with the many hunts against the creature, has caused their numbers to quickly decline, being a rare sight nowadays. Many quests have been organized to save the taken children, with a surprising amount of them being successfully accomplished.

>Muck Manta
A large, winged sea creature that glides above the Great Garbage Patch, feeding on the smaller creatures that are attracted to the garbage. They are very big, with almost a meter from flipper to flipper. Their aerodynamic shape allows them to fly for short periods of time, propelling themselves from the bottom to the sea and using the flying altitude to hunt for fish gathering near the garbage patches. Once they have seen them, they will dive into them, catching them off guard from above. Its wings are made of a durable, oily material that allows it to soar through the polluted air, and its body is covered in a thick layer of muck and grime that protects it from the harsh conditions of the patch.

>Mud Dunkleosteus
The Mud Dunkleosteus is a species of fish that lives in the bogs of the Stymphalian Swamps. A creature the size of a crocodile, its heavy weight and reduced limbs makes it slow and cumbersome swimmer. However, its limbs are tough enough to allow it to slowly crawl on land, and its tail can allow it to make short bursts of speed, but only for a few seconds. Thus, the mud dunklosteus will ambush birds and mammals drinking at the edge of the water, quickly jump towards them and bite them with its massive bone jaws. The victim them will either be dragged down into the mud to suffocate to death, or bleed to death due to the wounds. Either way, once the creature is dead, the mud dunkleosteus will slowly crawl towards the corpse and eat it. They have developed primitive lungs, allowing them to breathe out of the water, but since they are very small and the creature is too cumbersome, they get out of breath fast outside of water.

>Neepus
Nepus are strange creatures that appear all over Scimitarian. They are reptilian creatures that move all over land and water (though they prefer muddy lakes or swamps) with their tentacles, filtering the floor and eating whatever crums that find. They have no scales, instead having a slimy skin that makes whatever predators unable to bite them without choking on their slime. Through their skin they can also absorb the moisture in the air quite efficiently, even in the dryest of areas (though they avoid volcanic areas, since the cinders apparently choke them).

Their eggs are a great source of nutrients, though what' more interesting about them are their shells. Made of an incredibly durable material, they are nearly impervious from the outside, but quite soft and fragile from within, protecting the younglings from harm while allowing them easy birth. Many fey armor and shields are covered in nepus' egg shells, since they are so abundant and highly resistant. Its durability is comparable to high quality iron, but if hit in the wrong angle the armor will crack... like an egg. Thus, fey smiths have to be very careful about how to work the material, leaving as little weaknesses as possible.

>Northern Platypus
The northern platypus is a species of egg laying mammal that lives in the coasts of zemyland. They are the size of walruses, and spend most of their time laying on the beaches of the continent, resting and sleeping. When they are not loafing around, they spend their times underwater, hunting down fish. They lay their eggs during the spring, and the young need to grow quickly if they wish to survive the winters of Zemyland. To help this endeavour, many females will lay their eggs together, defending them from predators, and will share food with others' spawn when their mother didn't get lucky on the hunt, expecting to receive the same treatment when they don't find anything. They also group together in big masses of bodies, keeping their warm within them.

>Noseless Mammoth
The noseless mammoth is a species of mammal living in the mountains of the Mona Ki Ngi Xica Savannah. They are hairy creatures, slightly bigger than a horse. Despite it's shape, it is not actually an elephant, but a type of giant pig. Its name was given to it by explorers of the region who mistook the species for those mammoths of the north. Instead of a trunk, the noseless mammoth has developed to massive tusks, used to dig up vegetation and tubers from the underground. These tusks can move independently from one another, and they can use this ability to make a great deal of noise, which they use to threaten possible predators.

>Orontian Mountain Lizard
The Orontian Mountain Lizard is a species of reptile that lives near the mountains of Oront, as well within the inner plains. They are the size of a small goat, and are particularly resilient to cold for reptiles. Despite they being reptiles, they are warm blooded animals, though not to the same extent as birds and mammals. They have powerful upper scales, blocking attacks from the many birds of prey in the area, as well as from foxes and other predators. Their three pairs of limbs allow them to grab and climb the rock with ease, gripping themselves to the rock if they weel threatened. They are omnivores, eating the different kinds of plants and berries growing around the mountains, as well as eggs they find between the rocks. They cannot stand the orontian winter, though, so they will seek a cave to enter hybernation during the colder months.

It is unknown why would someone cross the majestic phoenix with a lowly chicken, but the end result of this was the phoenix chicken, a magical bird that is constantly engulfed in small flames. Its reproduction is extremely rare, only laying a single egg every year. Other than that, and its slimmer frame, it's size and behaviour is identical of that of a chicken. Some wizards talk greatly about its magical restoring abilities, since eating a phoenix chicken's meal is said to recover the energy and stamina of magical users greatly.

Then they are able to maneuver in the air by using their lush fins. They are not particularly fast flyers, and as such, they can be prey to birds and fishermen while they are doing this. To avoid this, the gasses they produce are hallucinogen, setting those whoever eats the fish in a happy daze that can last for days, and leaves the unlucky victim completely vulnerable to the elements. Pyasanjaws are used in local medicine for their sedative and pain neutralising habilities.

>Red Fiends
Red fiends are a species of reptilian creatures that live in the Eldritch Jungle. Like many of the creatures living in that accursed place, information about them is scarce, though there have been multiple successful attempts to capture one or two living individuals. They are reptilian creatures, around 3 meters of length and a meter of height, with powerful legs used to jump on top of their prey, as well as to move across the jungle. Their forward limbs are also very powerful, with sharp claws used to maul their enemies. They are seemingly blessed with some amphibian features, such as gills and fins, though there have been no recordings of the creatures in an aquatic environment. Their head is quite strange, designed to grab their prey not with jaws, but with a pair of maxilla. These maxilla keep the prey in place, while from the bottom of their mouth, multiple nested mouths, filled with lamprey-like teeth, attach to the victim. They then begin to eat the prey alive, usually starting with the more vulnerable parts of the creature, such as the eyes, mouth, or neck. They have a very distinctive chittering, used to coordinate their attacks. They attack in groups of around 6-7 individuals.

>Red Slime
The Red Slime is a species of slime living in the jungles of Chakobsa. A seemingly normal slime, it dissolves the ground beneath it, gaining more and more space, connecting wth the roots of the trees and plants nearby. Once an animal steps in, it will become glued to it, struggling endlessly until they die of exhaustion. Once they are dead, the red slime will dissolve them for nourishment. The slimes will grow as much as their environment allows, with the deepest red slime being around thrice the size of a human. This growth also makes the plants arount it grow, nourishing both slime and plants, and the plants in turn will grow enough to hide the pool of red slime, making passing creatures unaware of the danger. Red Slimes live around 30-60 years, and the older it becomes the less sticky it becomes, thus becoming unable to feed itself and dying of hunger.

>Rogue Raptors
The Rogue Raptor is a species of reptile frequently seen in the underground of magical societies. A meter tall and 3,6m long, it is a dangerous creature, with two pairs of clawed arms and a long spiked tail, coated with poison. Its main feature is its strange skull, looking like multiple heads joined together, with what appears to be three jaws at once, with two pair of eyes. This allows the Rogue Raptor to bite multiple things at once at the same time, which can cause terrible bleeding on its victims.

The origins of the rogue raptors are magical, created by criminal wizards as guard animals to protect their business. Rogue raptors are extraordinarily loyal to their masters, and are very intelligent to boot, something that turns them into excellent war beasts. However, they cannot breed on their own, having been created with magical limitations to their being so that they do not breed uncontrolled. As such, their numbers are quite few, and many kingdoms have forbidden keeping stocks of these animals. However, one can find viable eggs of rogue raptors in many hidden black markets if one is willing to pay enough.

>Sacred Qilin
The Sacred Qilin is a species of chimeric creature living in some of the forests of Changrila. Its origins are closely linked to Changrila's independence and the rise of the first God-Emperor of Changrila. Seeking to create a great symbol of power, the newly appointed God-Emperor ordered the creation of a new creature, a mix between unicorn, elk, deer, horse, lion and dragon. After many attempts, the end result would be the qilin, which greatly pleased the emperor. However, the qilin were stolen from the palace, with the perpetrators never being caught or identified. Dismayed, the God-Emperor forbade the creation of further qilins. However, centuries later, sightings of strange creatures would appear in some of the forests, later identified as the mythical qilin. They are strange creatures, with a head of a deer, horns of unicorn and elk, mane of a lion, tail and scales of a dragon, body of a deer and legs of a horse. They are highly intelligent, and avoid the company of sentient beings as much as possible, which they achieve with their natural talents. They are nimble and silent to an uncanny degree, which has allowed them to avoid their capture, since they are greatly appreciated in private collections. They are frugivores, only eating very selective forest fruits.
