>What is this?
/TG/ DEVELOPED A GAME
IT IS PLAYABLE. IT HAS BEEN PLAYED.
EXPEDITION is a ~1870s era, Jules Verne-inspired retro-futurist, underground blood soaked adventurescape.
It is a Skirmish wargame. Two players with their own expeditions, on a hexgrid map, fight each other for victory.
A campaign mode is planned, and currently in the works. (you) are encouraged to contribute.

3 versions of the rules exist, TWO of which have been playtested. The main one is 2e, to be found :
as with maps, tokens and lore ressources.

>What can I do?
Shitpost, meme, get comfy. Read over the docs to settle in.
Familiarize yourself with rules and plan some playtests.
Contribute if you have ideas. Give feedback on contributions if you don't.

> TQ : New format, yeah or nay?

There are ~7000 years separating Atlan from its Mezoamerican origins, allowing it to completely develop its own culture and aesthetic. At least that's how I've always seen it. The jaks obviously aren't fully representative, and this is 100% something that I see but others may not, but for me Atlan is built around this image of the Immortals, which was suggested because it fit the "their armour fully hides their humanity" description. A huge brutal slab of titanium. I wasn't fully happy with some of the other images until I saw this one and it made the other fit (not the weapon however).

Walk it off sounds like a better Tough, what do you think about it being an action that grants Tough to wounded units?
I don't get the point of Tough to be Tender, since it has to target friendlies. Is it just a graveyard mechanic? Or am I misreading that you have to remove any 3 models, starting with enemies?
I would put him as a Specialist at that level, yes. Perhaps with a Hero with the Trait to shift him to Elite instead?

A few tiny tips: reduce the font size, put spaces between paragraphs, use a serif typeface, put gray/black borders around the images.

How many layers are there supposed to be? I mean, humanity just discovered that there is an underground world and few years later there are settlements on the 4th layer. I feel like that kind of kills the sense of wonder while exploring this world

So to be clear, sorry, I'm tired, the new format in question in the op would be the OP with the mediafire for 2e, the most current rulebook on the second post, and whatever is the most complete and comprehensive pdf of lore for the 3rd.

>>92580108
There are nine known layers (though only 2-6 have been reasonably explored) but there could theoretically be infinite ones.
It's been a bit over a decade since the surface first made contact, and humans have been down there for millennia already making weird cultures and having whorelock harems.
If you're worried about the extent of colonization that's only really present on the third layer, the one directly below the surface. Beyond that there aren't major settlements outside of the points of entry. Think of it like Heart of Darkness where yes, there may be Euros down in the far reaches but they're often cut off from communication and going slowly native/insane half the time.
>>
>>92580108
9 (10).
We are the 2nd. So its 2 down on the 4th, but the thing is that Volcanists had a big help in settling Sicilia Terzia in the 4th. Sometimes you just gotta throw some folks into magma. Also, Entrances don't necessarily let you access all intervening Layers.
Otherwise the colonial push takes 4-6 years to truly take off, which seems to me to be realistic.

in the rule book, it says you need to be 5 away from an enemy to heal. if healing was stronger that would be fine, but it isnt so i dont think that should be a rule, also we didnt play with that rule in any of our games and it was fine. another proposal, change it so Medics dont use AP when healing and increase the cost of medkits to 2 silver. that second change im less sure of, but i think it would be worth testing.
>I don't get the point of Tough to be Tender, since it has to target friendlies
cut loses and proc Walk It Off. give risk to Abhor the Weak so it isnt a straight buff.
changes to changes:

Atlan Hospitalizer: Cost 8
Specialist, Medic
AP: 2
Movement 3, Accuracy: 4, Strength 6, Discipline 7, Evasion 6, Labor 5, Awareness 6
Health: Limbs 1, Body 1, Head 1
Armor: 05T4T

Walk It Off : [1 AP] this model may target a friendly model adjacent to it as it would be removed from the game. That model remains in play until the end of the turn, at which point it is removed as if it has been killed by the opponent.

Tough To Be Tender: At the start of the turn, Remove all Friendly Adjacent Models with a Grievous wound from the game.

Abhor The Weak : Friendly Models Adjacent to Atlan Hospitalizer, gain +1 Accuracy on Melee Attacks against Wounded Enemies.

Hypocritic Oath : This model cannot Heal Slaves or Non-Atlan models. If this Model fails a Heal Action inflict 1 Graze Wound on the target.

The lore doc says Greeland became devoid of life around the time the Paris sunk and nobody who dared venture there returned, except the UR-CA-pilled Whalers. I must have missed any discussion we've had on that, but, while not that big of a deal, I'm sligthly concerned the existence of Doggerland makes this concept redundant.
If not that, it's either British, still Danish, or maybe the Danes, devastated by their back-to-back wars with Britain and Prussia, could sell it to the U.S. to raise some emergency funds with an added bonus of trolling Britain.
>>
>>92582828

That would make much sense. Sell whatever is left of Greenland to the americans, and let them sort out the mess. The americans couldn't say no due to their Monroe Doctrine.
>>
>>92582628
Yeah, but even in real history the Dutch didn't control some Indonesian regions until the 20th century and with the ongoing Lemurian subversion some local states are bound to prove even more resilient. Bali is an obvious candidate for a Lemurian-adjacent realm.

Speaking of that, I think with the Scramble for Africa on hold the scenario has some problems. From what I understand, the idea was to speedrun the events leading up to the Portuguese Revolution, but I don't think the early push for Cape-Cairo works in this timeline, nor is it really necesarry.
With the general surge of religious fanaticism caused by the Duosicilian revolution, the Sinking, the Avignon-Vienna schism etc., especially so in the neighbouring Spain, the stage is already set. The Sebastianists can appear completely organically within the already existing chain of events. And I'd say the ruling Braganza branch would much rather roll with it than wait for the zealots to turn to the current Miguelist pretender.

I think the big things to figure out would be India and China. The Taiping are in charge, but I think we've mentioned a Qing exile state in Manchuria, maybe propped up by the Russians and Japanese. Also need to decide if Japan's entered above-ground colonialism early in Korea and Taiwan.

India's another issue altogether since it was held together by the British and only has its modern borders because the Brits said so. Is it an entirely Lemurian state or multiple client states all working together? Also I think we mentioned something about a Gurkha insurgency, not sure if that would translate to its own state.

This is how I envisioned it, but I'm by no means an expert.
The 1857 rebels used Bahadur Shah II as their unifying figurehead, so in the aftermath of the rebellion and aided by their Lemurian benefactors they ended up essentially restoring the Mughal Empire, though internally it consists of autonomous states.
Being in his 80s already, he swiflty kicks the bucket and is succeeded by Mirza Mughal. The new emperor crowns himself Akbar III, revives the Din-I Ilahi in an attempt to unite his realm and placate his non-Muslim subjects and syncretizes it further with Lemurian mysticism. Many Muslims see it as a betrayal and now occasionally rise up in rebellions and take to the hills, but seeing as how the infidels can tell the future and they can't, they can't do much.
During the collapse of the British rule, Kahate of Kalat breaks away and seizes some lands in modern Pakistan, as does Afghanistan.
The British retain Sri Lanka due to their naval superiority and manage to hold onto Bengal. This becomes somewhat easier as they start playing on the Muslim anitpathy to the Neo-Mughal heresy and sorcery.
Nepal uses the opportunity to elongate into India and remains pro-British.

Hejaz likely broke away, so it shouldn't be a problem, especially with independent Egypt and the canal up and running. There's also supposed to be a separate unhusked Ottoman government and there's really nowhere to place it but Mesopotamia and parts of Syria. With Qajar Iran all these could form some kind of united Islamic front trying to keep the Husks at bay. The main difference for Mecca would be that a good chunk of pilgrims now also go to the frontlines after their visit.

This model begins play one as one hex. It can spend movement points to uncoil, up to a length of 15 hexes. (This model is a 7 hex unit so each uncoil creates 3 new hexes on one side. Move this unit up to 12 hexes. It may pass over enemy units without [vantage point] in this time. This is a freight train. It slides out of a wall hex where you weren’t expecting it, rushes across the board and snaps up half a dozen men, and then tramples all your hired hands on the way out. It’s a boss monster like the Terrorsaur or the Megagorilla. Where those are built on durability and fear this one is built on springing out from a corner, uncoiling, and then moving really fast into melee. It may need a little tweaking though. Imagine picrel but there’s a small British man in front of it cowering as it rears up.
Did you know that actual Olms were sometimes washed up out of the caves and people thought they were infant dragons? Oh how right they were.

The Boers would be an interesting thing to look at to fill out more of Africa's currently missing lore.
>>
In fact, fuck it, I fully agree that our core faction list is right thorough.

So, a proposal! Expedition's first expansion pack:
Expedition: Africa Rising! Or something like that. Treated as separate from the core game so we don't get into muddied faction bloat.

Tons of games do it. I think "Expansion packs" would be a good way to handle the less-significant parts of lore that don't quite fit in the main game.

Speaking of Africa, are we putting Polish in there as part of some Voodoo West African confederation / colony / whatever? Some Zanzibarski Land. I like the ideas from the previous thread.
>>
>>92589504
Expedition! Heart of Darkness? I'd support that. We should start stealing from more of Conrad in general, the port of Sulaco is somewhere in South America. In fact, I'll add him to the recommended reading on the lore doc.
>>
>>92589526
>Speaking of Africa, are we putting Polish in there
I think that whole Poland stuff was a great set of concepts, and "Why is Poland in the Africa expansion?" is just strange enough to both pique interest and fit right into the setting.

And yeah the Voodoo stuff with teleporting zonbi pigeon post would fit right in too.
>>
We can also bring back Ethiopia for "Expedition: Ancestors of Africa", now that it won't be contributing to core faction bloat.

I really like the idea of a Polsih Regiment that disobeyed Napoleon's order to subjugate Haiti, adopts the local voodoo practices, then when things start popping off in Poland in the current setting they're forced underground back into Napoleon's waiting arms. Awesome.
How should we go about including these, in the Merc book or their own minor faction book?
>>
On the topic of "Expansion packs", I think that's actually a titanically useful idea for cleaning up the game as a whole.

We could honestly even part out Taiping/Satsuma into an Asian expansion and start bringing in India, central Asia and even the Tsardom back with that one. Dodges bloat, gets everything even more organised AND lets us bring in all the weird fringe factions from outside Europe proper.
>>
>>92589683
Yup, even subterranean factions are more or less much divided into regions:
Atlans - Americas
Atlantis - Europe and Africa
Lemuria - South Asia, Oceania
Mu - Eastern Asia, Oceania, Americas
It's not set in stone, like Lemuria could have some influence in Africa too but it should help to focus and flesh out these factions.

We still should be careful with adding too much stuff but organizing everything into "region expansions" is a good idea.
>>
>>92589759
>We still should be careful with adding too much stuff but organizing everything into "region expansions" is a good idea.
It also helps the initial onboarding to be less daunting.
If the entire game is just one titanic monolith of a tome, its pretty intimidating. But, if its neatly parsed into a few dozen pages of "Core" plus optional expansions, that'd be far easier to get into for new people methinks.
>>
>>92589765
>If the entire game is just one titanic monolith of a tome, its pretty intimidating. But, if its neatly parsed into a few dozen pages of "Core" plus optional expansions, that'd be far easier to get into for new people methinks.

As someone who wrote a great deal of lore for Giantstep, I would advise caution when adding a lot of lore at once. We did that with Giantstep, adding too much lore too quickly and it scared most of the newcomers away, as it became too daunting and difficult to get into. This setting is considerably more organized from the get go, but even so, I'd advice to better set in stone the basics rather than expanding. Maybe going continent to continent, starting with Europe as it's the one most talked about.
>>
>>92589791
>As someone who wrote a great deal of lore for Giantstep, I would advise caution when adding a lot of lore at once. We did that with Giantstep, adding too much lore too quickly and it scared most of the newcomers away,
Aye, I was there too and fully agree. I think parsing things out into a tight, simple core lore/rulebook plus expansions would do great work toward making the setting more palatable.
>>
>>92589656
yeah i agree, 2e is 2e anons.
>>92589765
yeah, its a really great idea. what should be core?
France, Britain, America, Italy? Atlan, Lemuria, Mu, Atlantis? Lost Men and La Ombra ofcourse. Neanderthal City States, Sky People, Whalers?
>>
>>92589819
>France, Britain, America, Italy? Atlan, Lemuria, Mu, Atlantis?

The core Agarthan factions are absolutely Atlan, Lemuria, Mu and Atlantis. Surface ones are a bit more diverse.

France, Britain and Italy are great starter picks though.
Its possible that America becomes the spearhead of a "The West!" expansion pack. We'd have to decide on that.
>>
>>92589819
>France, Britain, America, Italy? Atlan, Lemuria, Mu, Atlantis? Lost Men and La Ombra ofcourse.
This is pretty much already the core by the virtue of having shit.
>Sky People
They are some of the oldest faction concepts but need development, so I'd say they are the eventual Agarthan expansion that also fleshes out air combat mechanics.
>Neanderthal City States,
>Whalers
These have always been minors represented as mercs and the UR-CA sponsor.
>Tsardom, Austria-Hungary, Japan (as in, not just Satsuma)
Were already planned as later "5e" colonial core additions. Germany also seems like a no-brainer here.
>Husked Ottomans
>Taiping
They have units, mechanics and everything. Taiping I'm pretty sure weren't supposed to be a major colonial faction, though they can send an expedition or two regardless. The thing about them is that we mulled over the idea of some kind of China-centered Asian expansion that features large-scale Surface battles, with Taiping as the centerpiece.
Same could work for the Ottomans, since you could absolutely make the Second Oriental Crisis into a separate large-scale Surface game mode. Players could be the Balkan minors and the Middle Eastern rebel factions trying to cajole the Great Powers for support and working with or against the other rebel factions in pursuit of your own goals. Or the involved Great Powers themselves. And, of course, the Ottomans fighting against all of their neighbours and trying to manage your limited resources.

I don't see the point of moving already released factions to expansions, seems to me the whole advantage would be to allow for isolated design and perhaps smaller rosters, no?
There could be a sense in doing a specific expansion for vehicles and larger mechanical units across all factions however.

>I don't see the point of moving already released factions to expansions
How can you not see the point, when the point was just clearly enumerated?
>Less daunting for new players, to have things parsed into their own expansions.
>Better organisation going into the future.
>Easier management of lore/stories/etc. thanks to said better organisation.
>Allows for fringe factions to enter the fray without introducing core faction bloat.

>There could be a sense in doing a specific expansion for vehicles and larger mechanical units across all factions however.
I think I would prefer expansions to be more in the realm of lore/faction expansions than mechanical expansions.
If we think of new mechanics, perhaps those can be introduced in a Campaign setting, where they are appropriate to that campaign?

For new faction and new lore sure, it makes sense, but if the point is to allow for more development then why clog it with preexisting content is what I mean?

yes i agree. save Ottomans and Taiping, as they are more surfaced focused and would go to the same Expansion. the core of EXPEDITION: AGARTHA DESCENT: Scramble to the Center of the Earth is adventuring into Agartha, its litterly the games middle name.

i guess what i meant was if Mercs, or some Mercs, would be core. while i do like keeping things tight, i think they bring much needed color to the cheeks.
also, i think there was at some point talk of moving some Morlocks over to the Merc book, what are the thoughts on that now?
>>
Core: Antantis, Britain, France, Italy, Austria, Ottomans
Maybe Prussia since it's around the Franco-Prussian war? They should be interested in Doggerland too.
6 factions sound reasonable, if it goes smooth enough then we can add one or two more. I think working on one or two underground nation per region, just like >>92589759 will help expand on their history more, so for now let's focus on Atlantis.

>>92590315
Think of it less as an expansion and more like a region focus. We finish up one region, go to make another one etc. It's going to be easier to read than having French, Americans and Chinese next to each other in the lore book.
But no one will stop you from using Taipei if they are already playable.

If we are speaking of regional lore books, I'm 100% there with you. I thought you meant reshaping all the rulebooks for 2e around continent, for example, which lowers the number of books, sure, but just makes them bigger, so it doesn't help. I'm sorry this is the tail end of my work shift so I'm not at my best.
>>
>>92590393
>but if the point is to allow for more development then why clog it with preexisting content is what I mean?
Because having a major faction to spearhead the expansion would be quite helpful.

And also, making sure the factions each region are bundled together makes things easier to parse.
>>
Fuck it, I'm down to actually split up the books well and good.

My vote for "Agartha Core" would be France, Britain, Mu, Lemuria, Atlan, Atlantis.

Pack 1 would be a core Surface faction expansion with all the other European ones like Italy + Ottomans, plus Hyperborea as its "above"

Then, one for Asia and one for Africa, and maybe also one for the Americas. It splits things up quite nicely, I think.

>I'll have to look into a way to do the profiles another way, otherwise the core roster would be over a 100 pages of profiles alone. But sure this can be done.
Aye, the profiles are currently one page each right? Almost certainly we could find a way to compact that down, maybe into "Cards" of sorts and get four units per page or so.
One big contributor would probably be cleaning up and codifying unit ability wording standards.

came from the pike in the Atlan weapons and the fishermen in Angle's Egg. idea is that a Whaler got sick of dealing with sky people (language barrier) and sick of cloudellaeafints sniping his catches, but also didnt want to go home, so he went deeper. he heard about how the fifth layer is an ocean and was hoping to find prime hunting grounds there. along the way his company encountered some Atlans who, after seeing their skill with guns and throwing weapons, enslaved them. he wasnt meant to be carrying around a big anchor at first, i changed it because Drop Anchor/Raise Anchor being literal made me laugh, and now i worry its too cartoony.

By the way, I've found the pitch for Tesla being an ex-Arc Ranger multi-faction unit on the archive and, uuuh, can we not? I much prefer the idea we've had for him to be the Austro-Hungarian counterpart to Edison. It's not like the Austrians have that much cool shit planned at the moment and he was ONE thing they've had.
Not to mention that he is not even 30 and woud work better as a later addition. A young upstart, suddenly threatening the Wizard's (and thus America's) place as the world leader in the field of electrical engineering with his heretical alternate currents.

NTA but let's not add anything wild like mechs, vehicles and shit. Expensive and rare prototype units are ok (railgun or something) but I would rather preserve as much of the aesthetics and tech from 1870's as we can.
>>
>>92592307
I liked the idea of Remote Receivers and playing around with them to utilize things like Remote Control and Telecom, and like someone else said, potentially using Telecom for indirect attacks, maybe channeling direct electrical attacks or arc attacks triggered by Living Dynamo through the units with receivers. I think that could work as his main thing.
Living Dynamo itself might be too strong, so maybe the Arc Attacks shouldn't cancel enemy attacks. Getting potential free damage on your attackers is already good.
>>
I've been thinking of possible units/characters for minor factions, and I think Isaac Peral could be interesting.

Isaac Peral was a spanish navyman who fought in the third carlist war and in the ten years war in Cuba, and created the first military-grade submarine, the "Peral".

Not sure how could be fit with agarthan lore, but I'm sure we can come up with something.
>>
>>92589632
Good flavor option if you want to play them with The Old Guard rules but having them as a faction in, let's say, Africa gives us opportunity to make some unique units for them with voodoo-catholic chaplains or something in the future.
I imagine them settling with other fugitive and exiled Poles in West Africa, maybe they want to rebuild and are waiting for an opportunity to go back to Poland. Maybe they are organizing expeditions underground to find a way there. Poles were always pretty stubborn, they had quite a few uprisings. Or maybe their reasons are more related to voodoo and lwa. Whatever goes, faction like this seems like a lot of fun.
And Zanzibarski Land sounds funny, I wouldn't mind few MGS memes.

damn i really fucked up that formatting. way she goes...
for the Heros i was thinking War Master and Crystal Iconodule. i dont need to explain the first one. the second one comes from mine splitting up Crystal Mystic into two units and Iconoclast into 3. Crystal Iconodules are patrons of art and war and are the ones responsible for adapting outside tech seamlessly into Atlan culture, they are the only real source of innovation in the nation and they regarded and strange and even degenerate by some for it,. for the longest time, their only half heatedly deniable necessity and their clear feelings of patriotism Atlan and superiority are the primary things that kept them from the chopping block; these days they are more divisive but also more secure thanks to strong ties to Baron Phosphorous. thoughts?

Crystal Iconodule: Cost: 7
Hero, Elite, Engineer,
AP: 2
Movement 3, Accuracy 5, Strength 5, Discipline 5, Evasion 5, Labor 5, Awareness 6
Health: Limbs 1, Body 2, Head 1
Armor: 3T6T3T
[Tough]

Heavy Metal: When this Model suffers a Crit, Fire, Electrical, or Poison to a Location with no Titanium, you may pay 3 Silver to immediately check Awareness. if Successful, check the Heavy Metal Table and immediately apply the result to the Hit location.
When this Model dies, place a Rare Ore Mineral Vein on the Hex it died on. (8 Silver)

Glass Eyes: [3 AP] target a Fresh Mineral Vein Within 4 and LOS and check the Random Mineral Table adding +1 to the roll; when the Target Mineral Vein is first Excavated, the Ore found is the one determined by this roll. if Ore is not Titanium, you may check Labor to ignore the result of this action.

War Master: Cost: 8
Hero, Charter, Icon
AP: 3
Movement 2, Accuracy 6, Strength 5, Discipline 6, Evasion 4, Labor 4, Awareness 6
Health: Limbs 2, Body 1,
Armor: 3T4T2T
[Dogged]

Run That Body Down: When this unit would become Panicked, instead this and all Soldier Models have -1 to a minimum of 2 in all stats and become Frenzied.
>>
>>92595094
I'd prefer it if you kept the large profiles in the books and had the compacted ones as a glossary in the end, that way experienced players can reference them and brainlets like me can look at the big ones.
>>
>>92595419
these may be too good and or have too much bullshit going on.
Frenzy is mentioned in the current Titanium King profile, but as far as i can tell it isnt defined anywhere. i suggest:
Frenzy: While a model is Frenzied it gains +1 to all stats other than discipline and may only take Charge, Melee, and Move actions and must use all its AP in one Activation. When a model becomes Frenzied it stays Frenzied until the end of turn, at which point it loses all AP and does not restore AP at the start of the next turn. Frenzied Units do not roll defensive rolls and ignore all non-crit rolls against them. if a Frenzied unit suffers a Crit, the attempted action is done twice.

they arnt really meant to be a "tech nabber", more like the Atlan version of an alchemist/intellectual, a tech adapter and problem solver. the tech nabber will be the Iconoclast which i think would also work best as a Merc. one big aspect is experimenting with materials other than Titanium (i imagine this how Baron got his glow). the chart entry for Crystal Mystic said about "powered titanium sharpens the mind" and i figure the Iconodules what to figure out what the other stuff does. being a hero, i think, reflects some flexibility and hopefully their comparative adaptability will be more apparent once we get into items, weapons, and mounts. Glass Eyes is originally for the Wall Mystic which i have a rough version of but am reluctant to post as i feel ive been a bit pushy with Atlan lately. i do have ideas for an Atlan recon unit and the Immortals which i think i will post tomorrow as im so very tired.

They are. There aren't thousands of mechanical stilts walking Fallen Paris every day, but you can spot a few, and those would be among the most common "weird science" machines in the setting. There's a few dirigibles, automobiles are being developed faster but they are still limited mostly to parisian police use. The Brits have figured out the usefulness of Traction Engines so they are probably going to have a few.
Its always going to be a centerpiece, a huge investment of your Chest which will warp your gameplay options around itself, and depending on the scenario you might really hurt yourself. A Traction Engine won't help much at running around exploring Ruins or opening Chests.
They may end up making a lot more thematic sense once we have a campaign system, since they are all transports.

A great note honestly, very likely yes. A lot of Africa would remain less-than-colonised.

I mean, with the colonial powers distracted with Agartha (either in conquest or coming to terms with it all that madness existing), the african kingdoms would have a better chance to catch up and build up their strength, while at the same time minor powers that couldn't partake heavily in the scramble for Africa would be more free to do so (conquering Africa is probably cheaper and easier than conquering the underworld).

Do we have anything written for the african kingdoms?

>Do we have anything written for the african kingdoms?
Last thread we rather well discussed West Africa, in terms of a Vodou coalition, potentially in consort with New Orleans/Jamaican/Hatian pan-Africanists.
In the form of Bizango secret societies rising on the backs of Zonbification, soulless Zonbis being the only things which can safely travel through the spirit realm as they are without souls to destroy there. Thus, the West African empire would have a Zonbi-shaped pigeon post of sorts through the spirit realm.

Ethiopian kingdoms have been discussed in earlier threads, but were scrapped to avoid faction bloat. But, with the discussion of region-locked Expansion Packs, more potential to bring back previously scrapped factions is present now.

Nothing for now. We have Poles somewhere in West Africa, Boers should be noted, English should also have a colony since they use Zulu auxiliary (and Perry Miniatures have Zulu War models). That would be all white people but native Africans should also have something going on for them. We will focus on Africa after we finish Europe, for now we can just note that colonization is not as big of a part for Europeans as it would be irl at this time.

So the ideas for Africa, from what I've seen, are:

>Portugal
Expanding their domains to spread the word of the coming of Sebastian. Possibly launching a campaign into Morocco to reclaim the land where Sebastian first disappeared (maybe with spanish help, since the humiliation of the loss of Cuba is historically linked to africanism and african expansion?).

>Vodoo-Polish
The mix between voodoo cultists and polish soldiers in Haiti could lead to a return to Africa in some way (would need to justify a return to Africa instead of building a kingdom/republic in Haiti though).

>Belgian Congo
If the belgians/Leopold II do not have that much interest in the area, would they control all the Congo basin, or just a part? And how would they do it?

>British Africa
Much smaller than in real history, and probably in constant struggle with locals due to their focus on Agartha (or maybe the loss of India makes them focus on Africa much harder instead? Food for thought). There were mention of the boers and the zulus, but I can't remember where that was explained.

>Ethiopia
Italy failed to conquer Ethiopia, and considering it's the one proper african kingdom established, I can see it building up strength while everyone else is distracted. Industrial Ethiopia, perhaps?

>French Africa
Outside of Algeria and other bits, the french would not have their massive north-african empire. Other than that, not sure what would change.

>Undead Ottomans
Egypt under undead ottoman rule would affect the nearby territories. Maybe the sudanese kingdoms would be constantly pushing their borders.

>Liberia
The americans would still have Libieria as the weird experiment of the American Colonization Society to resettle old slaves. Not sure what could be done with this, though.
>>
>>92602696
Also, would the germans try to expand in Africa much harder, since their expansion would not grind the gears of the other powers that much?

What is the climate down there and how does it work?
What is the light and heat source?

I'm not a fan of hard worldbuilding and setting everything in stone but I'd like to have some overall understanding of what can I expect to see when delving deep underground.
>>
>>92604345
>What is the climate down there and how does it work?
Depends on the layer and region. Currents from the Sacred Alph river carry higher climates down. The breathing caves rush disparate climates together. Where such things meet in special ways, jungles, swamps etc. can form

>What is the light and heat source?
The Inner Sun is a singular light source, but the glow it provides ss not natural. Instead of the light travelling in straight lines, it bends and can snake its way through the underground. In certain areas, shadows can be cast in different directions. Its mystic properties are yet to be understood.
Otherwise, flame, and your usual affair of bioluminescence.

>Belgian Congo
There could also be the possibility of Leopold doing the same shit that lead to the Paraguay Incident, forcing America and the surrounding colonials to intervene before he gets too far, possibly with conflicting interests in setting up a "safe" containment of Hyperborean artifacts or just outright preventing it from happening.

Julius Verne's account of the Bjelke-Lidenbrocke Expedition directly compares the light underground to electrical light, noting that it seems remarkably bright and diffuse, but no apparent source. Agarthan scientists have theorised an "Inner Sun" but as no solid proof has emerged beyond tall tales from travellers, it remains a theory.

After that happened, I imagine some sort of international conference or reunion would happen to regulate the use of mysterious agarthan or hyperborean items. Just in case something like that happened again.

Hell, that could be a good idea for expansions. We write a mini-campaign, like the Congo intervention, and add a bunch of African/Minor colonial units that get involved. I think it would really help in introducing the extra lore and units instead of dumping them all in a single book.

Baron Phosphorous, who was not yet The Baron, was soaked in blood, sweat, and bathing in Atlantean tears when a letter came calling him back from the front to his father’s- The Baron’s- estate. Urgent the letter said, and urged him to take the first ship back; mater of life and death the letter said, and begged him to come home. The Baron was never long on words.
“At least he’s realized what motivates me,” he mumbled into his beer, “Shame he hasnt figured out how to lie”. A knock on his tent. “Are you retarded? Who the hell knocks on a tent? I wouldn't have known someone was there had I not seen you do it!”
“I take it I may enter”.
“God. Just get it over with”.
“Your father sent me to tell you he is dying”.
Phosphorous sat back in his chair, and took a small long sip of his drink before speaking a deep cold
“Oh”.
“Yes”.
“Drat! Seems I shall have to become Baron”.
“Which of course means you need to come home”.
“yes. yes, of course. How soon is he dying?”
“the Hospitalizes dont know yet, but they will come the Summer Gala. I reckon a week or two after then”. The glassy eyed man tried to pull up a chair, but fell right on his ass. Playing it off, he crossed his legs, put an arm behind his head, and reached for the pipe which he had forgotten he forgot.
“I could get you one”.
“I can last a few days”.
“I dont think I can, your ill news has spoiled my mood”. Unsure of what to say and sure of his fathers wisdom, the glassy eyed man said nothing. Phosphorus stood slowly, stopped, then left the tent quickly.

>Belgian Congo
Isn't a thing. Belgian Congo happened more or less because Leopold wanted it and it was established a couple of years past our latest estimated timeline date. He is fully comitted to his Agarthan colony and mercenary company here.
The Portuguese would actually be in the best position to grab the Congo estuary, and I think the map anon had the same idea.
>Industrial Ethiopia, perhaps
Straight uo industrial - no, gradually modernizng - certainly. Making good use of that Axum entrance traffic.
>Egypt under undead ottoman rule
Isn't a thing, Egypt is independent as per the current lore.
>Liberia
The most I can come up at the moment is that Liberia would be less threatened by the British and the French and could claim more territory.

Why do that? It's completely redundant and contradicts Leopold's lore. It's literally Paraguay Incident 2: African Boogaloo, including the establishment of an international organization for the containment of the wird and dangerous Hyperborean shit.

Also, speaking more to the thread as a whole. Pardon me if I sound a bit confrontational, but how many here actually read the damn doc?
Ottoman entry is one of the shortest out there.
Mind you I'm not saying it's some Holy Bible we can't change. We have, in fact, done it numerous times. But it would be one thing if people were reading it and pitching their changes, whereas time and time again I just see all these attempts to reinvent the wheel by anons seemingly unaware that we've had some aspect of the lore already covered, and for a long ass time at that.

It looks great and I think it suits Vernian retro futuristic style. They are supposed to be expensive so just a couple of these guys should be a menace.

This is also a suggestion for a different approach in creating new units - we can look at some already existing models and think how could they fit in Agartha after convertion.
Basic infantry is easy to get - French, Germans and English from this period are all in plastic from Perry Miniatures, there are boxes for Franco-Prussian War, Zulu War and Brits in Afghanistan. Also Civil War models for Americans. I would love to see some of your WIPs in here in the future.

Atlan uses more metal in their architecture, afaik.
Less columnar revivalist, more rococo brutalist.
>>
Reminder that the ancient Greek root of "Phosphorous" is "Phaos pherein" meaning "Torch Bearer"
and Phosphorous is an actual proper name in Atlan, not referring to the chemical.
>>
Its likely, actually, a surname.
Phosphorous would be an Anglicisation of something like Phaospheros. Given the meaning of the OG Greek roots, it actually hints at Atlan society using honorary surnames.
The surname "Torch Bearer' existing certainly does not imply professional surnames ala English and many other languages, nor regional surnames ala Italian, nor even familial surnames ala the -sen suffix of Swedish.

Its a small lore tidbit, but I"m happy to contribute it. Phosphorous is a surname, meaning "Torch Bearer", either Baron Phosphorous in his youth or an ancestor of his would have been in some position where he carried a great metaphorical weight for many people.

Atlan uses honorary surnames. And, likely also uses derogatory surnames for families of criminals, slaves etc. You may find surnames with meanings like "Bread Thief" or "Con Artist"

my plan is that there is only one Baron in Atlan and his surname Phosphorous, and after years of there always being a Baron Phosphorous it became tradition to name the heir to the title Baron. the ones thats the Baron is called The Baron while the heir is called by his surname. im not done with the story, thats just the introduction. im writing about what the war camp is like now and having some trouble, if any of you have ideas of what the FOB of The Baron's Immortals is like id love to hear it.

i imagine the really old stuff, pre war and early war, would be "Byzantine with Cretan characteristics". pre Spanish contact (if we go with that which i think we ought to) and post Atlantis contact, i think it would be Medieval Georgianish. post Spanish contact, pre Titanium King, a sort of Stalinist style. current era being Art Decoish.
brutalism is too honest and rococo too overtly feminine.

Into the camp of The Baron’s Immortals. The camp was made of four concentric walls of clay and wood at the top and bottom of two stocky concentric mounds; one small one on top, a big one on the bottom. It was near the sea, as it had to be to get the wood needed for its construction and inhabitince. It was built, as it had to be, far too quickly to be sound and under great stress by many sea-sick engineers and slaves. It was on the lip of what was surely stolen land, though by Atlan or Atlantis depends, as it goes, on who you ask. The only thing anyone could agree upon about the cove was its importance, its stolence, and its history with its new and current occupants.
The Baron’s Immortals earned their name after Phosphorous I took the magnificent cove called then Oceanus’s Goblet from Atlantis, made it his barony, and used it to launch a undefeated and wholly merciless campaign into the Atlantean heartland in which not a single one of his men bled more than an ounce. The Baron’s Barony was the only real source of pride Atlan had back then, and it became a symbol- The Baron and his Immortals- became a symbol for it. Which is why it hurt so damn much when The Baron Phosphorous III lost it, it hurt so much it killed him. The Baron Phosphorous IV spent his whole life trying to undo what his father had done, and tried by god he did try. tried his damnedest, he did, but it was never enough pry back his birthright, the little circle of hell his name promised him. In his life Phosphorous IV was both a good son, a good student, Captain of The Baron’s Immortals, a leader dignified and proud, a fair if grim lord of little, a cunning business man, a shrewd general, and for good decade he was all of it at once. Still, it was never enough to retake The Barony. All it all was enough for was aging him far faster, he was only fifty now which is remarkably young for a Phosphorous, and keeping the last embers of dignity burning.
>>
Now his son, Phosphorous V, Baron to be, paced and pondered his prestigious blood until he had paced clear across the camp right into a wooden wall. Rubbing his shaggy, nearly tangerine head, “ill have to cut this wont I”, he thought and turned gazing out across the camp, his camp, the camp that looked out across the Goblet, which was dark and dead silent. It was very early in the morning, and it had been a very late night, and a very hard week. Phosphorous figured he was the only one up. "Unless the glassy eyed man really can last a few days," he amended his thought. It was not an unheard of thing for a grey blood to be so full of Titanium that the withdraws dont hit for nearly a month. There was even one story of a glass eye who went a whole year with no withdraw after a extraordinarily expensive few weeks of what can only be hoped to have been something useful. Phosphorous tried to remember exactly how the troublesome story went again as he wandered back to his tent, wondering if the glassy eyed man was awake or even alive. Despite his earlier absent mindedness it was easy to find his tent, it was the only one that glowed and though the glow was faint and often obstructed, in the dark sleep of the camp it stood out. It stood out like a man among crocodiles! It stood out like a mirror in the sun! It stood out like- Phosphorous V stopped one thought and started another.

On a somewhat related note, Phosphorous was originally pitched as a pyromaniac character, supposed to work well with Greek Fire equiped Immortals.
The guy who did the initial fleshing out of the unit rules (that was before 2e anon started carrying the rules aspect of things like the Atlas he is) played into it by giving him a flaming rhomphaia a buff to fire damage for his allies, and giving the Immortals a different loadout option that had them use a flamethrower-pike and a heavy shield that turned them into tanks, essentially.
I raised some concern that perhaps that would make the Baron a bit of a one trick pony, if we only have such limited options for fire damage in the Atlan army. But if we DID add more, then it might have turned them into discount Atlantis and taken away from Atlantis proper.
I was meaning to start a discussion, but it ended up mostly me and him just deciding on what would end up his current rules. The flamethrower pike became the Acanthus pike, the rhomphaia became crystal etc.
However, I've since come to doubt this decision and I did see recently someone suggest Atlan should have Greek Fire options. And since it's actually fairly common for 2e to let you mix and match different faction features via special leader and sponsor rules, I think it would fit rather well.
So what if we make the Greek Fire-related weaponry a Phoshorous-only feature for Atlan and bring back his older concept?

Anyway, here are the rules I'd change/add to him:

Weapon: Incendiary Rhomphaia
The blade of this Rhomphaia is lined by an unholy mixture of crystalline Titanium and phosphorous, as if Prometheus himself was forged into a weapon. Heeding its master's mental command it bursts into azure flames.
+1/ +1 /-2 / 7 [ X / ] / [ Black X ]
Fire Damage on Crits.

Torch Bearer (ex-Adamant Rhompaia): [1 AP 1 LP] This model may set it's melee weapon on fire, making all attacks with it deal additional Fire damage for 3 turns. While active, any time an enemy within 3 of this model is killed by Fire damage, the enemy gains 1 extra Dread.

Pyromaniac: You may equip the Immortals and Toltaikoi in your expedition with Atlantean Flamers, also making them subject to the "Critical Instability" rule.

Recruitment : This model comes equipped with the Incendiary Rhomphaia and may not take any other weapon. It may select a Warhorse as a Mount.

The rest is the same.
Might need polish, but you get the gist.
And evidently, keep the Acanthus shield/pike around as a separate thing.

For Gorgs , you are going to need a lot less than that, Gorgs are strong, not intended to be a horde army. Devolved Deepfolks under Sinister Dr Moreau are Morlock-tier spam horde, or at least intended to be.

>Greek Fire-related weaponry a Phoshorous-only feature for Atlan and bring back his older concept?
id like Immortals to be able to take Greek Fire Grease (see somewhere in this thread) and Crystal Iconodules to be able to take Greek Fire Bombs, otherwise i agree.
>Torch Bearer
i think we should make Greek Fire Damage its own keyword and Torch Bearer should be 2LP.
what do you think about this?

Baron Phosphorous: Cost 30
Leader, Noble
AP: 2 LP:5
Movement 2, Accuracy 7, Strength 8, Discipline 7, Evasion 5, Labor 0, Awareness 7
Health: Limbs 2, Body 2, Head 1
Armor: 4T7T3T

Slave Driver: All Slave units in this Expedition gain +1 Labor

Torch Bearer: [2 LP] This model may set it's melee weapon on fire, making all attacks with it deal additional Greek Fire Damage. While active, any time an enemy within 3 of this model is killed by Fire damage, the enemy gains 1 extra Dread.

His Radiance: Non-Slave models in your expedition within 3 gain +1 Discipline and Fire Damage does not remove Titanium. Enemy Models within 3 have -1 Accuracy when Attacking this Model
This unit counts as a Light Source (4)

“Carry that weight!”: [1AP 1LP] Select a Slave Adjacent to any Non-Slave, and a Non-Slave Adjacent to the Selected Slave. The Slave loses 2 Movement and at the end of its Activation The Selected Non-Slave may be moved so they are once again Adjacent to each other.

“Escape from freedom!” : [2AP 3LP] All Panicking models, friendly and
enemy, immediately stop Panicking and become under your control until the
end of the game. Every unit affected by this rule gain Slave and suffer -1 to
all Stats except AP.

This model comes equipped with the Incendiary Rhomphaia and may not take any other weapon. May take Cavesaur or Warhorse mount.
>>
Suggestion for Titanium rule change:
Armour locations with a (T) next to them are Titanium armour. They do not suffer Penetration penalties, and the first time it would be modified by a Critical, instead, it loses this rule (cross the (T)), this does not increase Dread. Titanium can also be removed through Successful Fire or Electric Damage.
>>92602156
amendments:

Terror Tonic: [Affixed] Models who suffer a Wound from this weapon must make a Discipline check at the end of the turn. For every Test Failed, the owner of the Model takes 1 Dread.
Weapons with Terror Tonic Affixed count as Light Source 2

Greek Fire Grease: [Affixed] Affixing Greek Fire Grease causes the Model doing to to take 1 Fire Damage to Limbs. Weapons with Greek Fire Grease Affixed deal Fire Damage to target and All Models Adjacent to target.
Weapons with Greek Fire Grease Affixed count as Light Source 3
>>
suggestion for Immortals:

Atlan Immortal: Cost 17
Soldier, Icon
AP: 2
Movement 2, Accuracy 5, Strength 8, Discipline 7, Evasion 3, Labor 0, Awareness 5
Health: Limbs 1, Body 2,
Armor: 7T7T7T

I WILL NOT DIE TODAY: when this Model is first Grievously Wounded or Shaken it becomes Frenzied.

Perfect Form: While equipped with Buckler or Sheild, Blocks Line Of Sight for Enemies but not Friendlies.

May take Anthacus Pike, Rhomphia, Buckler, Sheild. May take Torch, Lantern, Greek Fire Grease.

Ok, so I’m updating the world map. Here are the changes made:

>Portugal
-Added Goa in India. I imagine they still have it, though with an independent India, they might try to reclaim it for themselves.
-Added the island of St. Tome in Africa.
-Expanded Portuguese holdings in the Indonesian archipelago, giving them Sumba, Flores and the rest of Timor. In the real world timeline, the Portuguese governor of the region holdings in Indonesia agreed to sell eastern Flores and the nearby islands to the Dutch in 1851, which ended in the Treaty of Lisbon in 1859 with the division of Timor between the two. With a sebastianist order, losing territory to heretics (much less selling it) would be unthinkable, so I assume they would still keep the islands, despite their financial crisis.
>Netherlands
-Added Surinam.
-Added Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire.
-Added dutch territories in Indonesian islands. I have reduced somewhat their holdings, though I’m not sure how (and how much) the dutch are affected by agarthan shenanigans, so I just eyeballed it.
>British
-Added Ceilan and a couple of islands in Oceania.
-Added Benin and the Seychelles.
-Added the Andamar and Nicobar islands.
-Added Aden and Bahrain in the Arabian Peninsula (would the british expand this enclave with the husked ottomans around? Maybe the tribes nearby would ally with the british for help?).
-Added a good amount of islands to the british holdings in the Caribbean (Monserrat, Antigua, Trinidad and Tobago…).
>French
-Added New Caledonia.
-Added the isle of Reunion and the Comoros.
-Added a bit of Madagascar to the French holdings, but again, not sure how much would they expand with agarthan shenanigans going around, so I eyeballed it again.
-Added a good amount of islands to the french holdings in the Caribbean (Guadaloupe, Martinique).
>Spain
-Added a couple of Pacific Islands, since there is no mention of Spain losing their pacific holdings after the loss of Cuba.
>>
>>92626092
>USA
-Added Hawaii
-Added Puerto Rico (would it be under US control, or would it be independent?)

Still not sure how to draw the borders in south and southeastern Asia, as China is not unified under one singular rule, the Tsardom expanding through central Asia and the Neo-Mughal around. I'll wait until we get more consensus on that. The same with Africa and the possible portuguese campaigns around it.

A couple of questions:
-Would Canada fall under proper british influence, or only Labrador would count?
-Would the danish control part of greenland, or would they lose it to either US or british influence?
-Would Haiti and the Dominican Republic be one country (as they were for a time in the real world)? That would probably need to be addresed in the eventual Polish-Vodoo writeup.
-Have I missed some bit contrary to current lore?

>>

Yes, the Act of 1867 maintained that all Canuck foreign affairs was run by the Brits. This would go on until the first World War if I understand correctly.

Kek, might as well, there's no reason not to have more than one way to access it. I'll just have to check how the Actions works on those two profiles, but that's not much. Will do it tonight and post them up tomorrow.
In the meantime, I don't think a "Reclaimer" unit was posted, unless I missed it. I think Atlan does need at least one more Soldier profile between the Slave Soldier and the Immortals, there's a huge gap the Spring Gunner doesn't really fill, and the Neodamode & Arkodamode are not something you can rely on so much. Perhaps "Reclaimers" are an Akritoi equivalent corp, sent to "reclaim" Atlan's former colonies?
>>

This is a case of strong synchronicity, mentions of the vid game appeared within 2 weeks of this thread being born, and while I don't know shit about game programing I assume it was too far along to have been born out of it or reflavored at the last minute for it.
Personally I think if a vid came out of this a sort of Sunless Sea where individual members of your Expedition are represented on the map walking and fighting instead of just a boat would be insanely cool.

this is one of the units, the other one being the Reconquerer. i havent posted them because they draw from the Conquistador Contact idea and the Scared Atlan Wall change. but i guess thats kinda stupid and overly formal so here you are:
Atlan Reclaimer Cost: 8
Soldier, Engineer
AP: 2
Movement 2, Accuracy 6, Strength 7, Discipline 5, Evasion 4, Labor 5, Awareness 4
Health: Limbs 1, Body 1,
Armor: 5T6T5T

Stand My Ground: while this unit is Shaken, +1 Strength, -1 Accuracy Awareness, and it may still make Melee Attacks. When this unit would become Panicked, it instead becomes Broken.

may take any Atlan Melee. Titanium Pike. May take Tonic, Torch, Lantern, Materials.

rerevised:
Hospitalizer: Cost 7
Specialist, Icon
AP: 2
Movement 3, Accuracy: 4, Strength 6, Discipline 8, Evasion 6, Labor 5, Awareness 7
Health: Limbs 1, Body 2, Head 1
Armor: 4T6T2T

Walk It Off : [1 AP] this model may target a friendly model adjacent to it as it would be removed from the game. That model remains in play until the end of the turn, at which point it is removed as if it has been killed by the opponent. Can not be used on units with Wall in the name.

May take Stiletto, Titanium Stiletto, or Titanium Bone Saw as Weapon.

>Is there anything specific I should looking for during a playtest?
Dodging saves lives. If you have the choice between Move Move or Move Dodge, consider heavily doing the second to increase your survival chances. Ranges are long relative to the map sizes.
90% of the time you don't need to figure out what location you hit. If the target of an attack has a Simple Health Track and either all locations have no Armour (so, most Colonials) or the same Armour Value, you don't need to figure it out.
With Dread no longer decreasing at the end of the turn, it is a real concern. Brits have the highest Discipline but you might want to bring one or two ways to mitigate it.
Analytical Engine seems pretty good, in every playtest up until now it seemed useful. Prophecies are a great toolbox.
Also, hopefully this won't fuck your friend's list over but there is a rebalancing on its way as of right now so cost will change for Murlocs and Mu units (and Gorgs will probably be changed a bit to make them more useful & flavoured). Murloc spam won't go away however, if anything they'll get more tools.

Health: Limbs 1, Body 2, Head 1

When this Model dies, place a Rare Ore Mineral Vein on the Hex it died on. (15 Silver)

-Experimental Weaponry : Weapons with Terror Tonic also inflict Fire Damage on Crit . May take Pistols from the British list. May only use Ranged or Melee Attacks in a game. (4 Silver)

-Scavenged Equipment : This model gains +2 Armour one one of its
Location. Additionally, during Deployment, choose between Caltrops,
Mantraps and Leaping Flowers. Once per game this model may use the Tools

-Hedge Cavalry : This model gains -1 Armour to Body Location and can
select any Mount from the Atlan list. (1 Silver)

Crystal Clear: [3 AP] target a Fresh Mineral Vein Within LOS and check the Random Mineral Table adding +2 to the roll; when the Target Mineral Vein is first Excavated, the Ore found is the one determined by this roll. (5 Silver)

No More Tears: May use Repair on Icon Models, If Labor roll is Crit addtionally restore 1 Armor to target location.

Tails Of A Scorched Earth: Every Model that shares a Keyword with this one gains [Hatred: Enemy] and +1 Discipline.

Eternal Vigilance: Models that share no Keyword with this one and have no AP remaining may take a free Build action, for every Material a Model uses as a result of this effect it takes one Graze Wound.

Fleeting Glimpse: [2 AP, 1 LP]. If Fleeting Glimpse was not used the Turn prior it has no effect. all Icon Models must immediately take a free Move action ignoring Difficult Terrain and leaving a 2 Health Barricade in every hex they travel through.
OR
Everything Put Together: [2 AP, 3 LP] you may Deploy any Friendly Icon Models removed from the game adjacent to a Wall or Fortification. Models deployed this way are ignore Moral rules, may not Move, and are removed from game as if killed by an enemy at the end of the turn.

Titanium Trap Mind: as long as this Model has Titanium on a Armor Location and AP remaining, all Parley Actions and Prohseses target this Model. When this Model suffers a Crit, Fire Damage, or Electrical to a Location with no Titanium, after resolving the attack, restore the Titanium.

Ok, I like Stormcast Annihilators a lot more. I might even paint him after I find something else for a weapon.
I'm a big fan of these muscle plates, they invoke ancient mediterranean fashion and he's a lot chunkier than normal Stormcasts. This Plague Marine helmet also grew on me, but whatever you guys put on him, he will look good. I dropped the head crest since it cluttered this design, he looks more brutish and warlike now. Full plate war machine, just as The Founding Titking intended.

I agree, though your previous model would be great for a promoted slave soldier design if you swapped out the armored body for one of those swole Tzeentch cultists.

Interesting take on the design, what did you use for it? My plan is to take some of those craft store cog gubbins that I have lying around and stack them into a big tower with a little frame around it.

I had some wargames Atlantic Convict bits left over, mostly backpack gubbins. I used the telescope because of the 'Environmental Analysis' and thought it would be cool to have an actual way to scan the area.

Oh, you could make your tower print out some paper, or perhaps have sort of run off mechanical fluid!

Hawaii is Mu-aligned.
It'd stretch Egypt at least to cover the Sinai. Pretty much everyone in the world would like there to be something between the Ottomans and the canal.
>would the british expand this enclave with the husked ottomans around? Maybe the tribes nearby would ally with the british for help?
British Yemen with independent Hejaz to the north?
I will also continue shilling putting the Anti-Sultanate into Iraq.
>Added dutch territories in Indonesian islands. I have reduced somewhat their holdings, though I’m not sure how (and how much) the dutch are affected by agarthan shenanigans, so I just eyeballed it.
Make Bali independent.
>>
>>92629564
Ok, fixed Hawaii and Mali.

>It'd stretch Egypt at least to cover the Sinai.
Would that be realistic? The western side of the Sinai is much narrower and easy to bottleneck the ottomans in. Plus, it could make using the canal a dicier proposition, thus making many seek other options.

>Anti-Sultanate into Iraq.
Making iraq non-ottoman controlled? I'm not sure, would it be good to take that much territory from the ottomans? The area could be in constant rebelion and with guerrilla warfare, but still under their technical control.
>>
>>92629619
Also, this reminds me I need to start marking areas under agarthan influence.
>>
>>92629619
That there was supposed an unhusked Ottoman government left and controlling parts of the empire (and not Egypt, which is under the immortal Mohammad Ali Pasha, but allied with them out of convenience) was one of the oldest ideas for the Ottomans. And there's nowhere else left to put it. It's not like what you're saying is wrong, and we could just abandon the concept, but it would be a big change. What do the others think?
>>
Last update to the map. Here are the changes.

>Netherlands
Taken Bali, since it's under lemurian influence.
>British
Added all Canada to the british

For now, I'm keeping the ottomans as they are until more feedback clears things out.
>>
>>92629717
Also, I know that green is the traditional Russian map colour, but did you make the Ottomans purple on purpose?
>>
>>92629750
No, I just needed to use colors different enough to differenciate the nations and that could not be mistaken once I added the transparency. Why?
>>
>>92629660
I agree, Iraq is in the best position for the anti-husk elements of the Ottomans. That or what they have of the Balkans, but I doubt a sultanate would set up there. Perhaps we could just shade part of the ottomans territory to indicate that it's in dispute?

About the vodoo-polish idea. Not the anon who initially suggested it, but I’ve been thinking on a timeline that would work for them. It's just a quick writeup, so any feedback would be appreciated.

>1801. Starting with the arrival of Napoleon’s forces to retake Haiti and reinstate slavery, everything else happens as per real world’s timeline. At that point, the entirety of the island is under Haitian control due to the Spanish ceding the eastern side for peace with the French. The island has been in upheaval for more than a decade. General Leclerc takes over most of the island, start of a brutal resistance against the French, who had begun reinstating slavery in other colonial possessions of theirs. Also, in the Agarthan timeline, Voodoo timeline is much widely spread amongst Haitians, seeing it as a show of resistance against their oppressors.
>As part of Leclerc expedition, he brings a great force of polish soldiers, who are allied with the French. Many of them hold revolutionary ideals of their own, and think they are bringing the values of the French revolution to the rest of the world. However, once they see the French trying to reinstate slavery and the Haitian resisting, they end up disgusted with the French and change sides, about 5k polish solders join the ranks of the Haitians.
>The polish and the Haitians begin intermixing their culture, slowly but surely altering the traditional voodoo rituals and beliefs into something more regimented, whereas the polish become more used to see voodoo and its practices.
>The Leclerc Expedition utterly fails due to disease, guerrilla warfare and problems with the Napoleonic campaigns elsewhere. 1803 sees the French defeated in the Battle of Vertieres, forcing the French to flee (that and Leclerc’s death due to fever).
>>
>>92630241
>As the war stagnates, both sides began using voodoo rituals to increase their numbers. Many armies have voodoo zombies on them (though they are not fit for modern combat, they are either mindless melee soldiers who slowly walk towards the enemy soaking bullets, or they are used to carry materials across the island). As the world is too fixed with the Napoleonic wars in Europe, and as the zombies are too few in number to be meaningful, they are ignored by the outside world.
>The polish population, seeing that the war is bleeding an already wounded nation, offers to serve as intermediaries for peace negotiations, but they are ignored by the leadership of both. Seeing this, the polish get closer to voodoo priests and practitioners in search of a solution. They manage to become a third option in the civil war, though they do not partake in the fight. The Church of Vodoo begins growing in popularity, begins streamlining voodoo rituals and mixing it with catholic customs, some of the heroes of the Haitian Revolution become canonized as saints.
>1810. The mysterious death of both Alexandre Petion and Henri Christophe during the same night grinds the civil war to a bloody halt. Their bodies appear to have a mark in the shape of a fly on their necks, rumors begin to spread that the spirit of François Mackandal had returned to the land and punished both leaders due to their ambitions.
>As both sides of the civil war began infighting, the Church of Voodoo appears and begins preaching for the end of the war. Peacefully at first, but as the Church of Voodoo begins gaining more influence in society, they can use more force to pacify the island.
>>
>>92630243
>1813. The Church of Voodoo wins the civil war, the nation is renamed as the Holy Empire of Haiti. The nation is ruled by a council of voodoo priests, the Holy Council, which begins trying to fix the nation’s economy. The figure of the Emperor is a mysterious man who never appears in public but it’s said to have the wisdom and power to keep Haiti free and prosperous. In reality, the emperor is just a zombie of one of the original voodoo priests from the Church of Voodoo.
>Many polish try to go back to their home during the years after the war, and they are all universally rejected, both as traitors during the war and as practitioners of heresy and witchcraft. This sentiment will strengthen as Catholicism in Europe becomes more belligerent due to the crisis with the Papacy. Only a few radicals wanting to revive the Duchy of Varsaw give them the time of day, and even then, they are looked down as shameful savages.
>The Church of Voodoo is seen by the rest of the world as a dangerous cult, and unanimously isolate Haiti, not even offering recognition in exchange for money as per real world timeline. The US is especially harsh on them, as many of the slaver-owning states vote to blockade the island to prevent it from spreading its religion (and the idea of a successful slave revolt) outside of Haiti. This blockade last until the beginning of the US Civil War.
>The eastern side of the island begins rejecting voodoo and the Haitian rule, and begin a war of independence. Between 1822 to 1844, the population of Santo Domingo fights against the Haitians with help from Britain, the US and Spain. In 1844, they become independent, causing great turmoil in Haiti.
>>
>>92630248
-With Haiti completely isolated from the rest of the world, an economy in tatters, unable to trade for basic supplies and defeated against their neighbors, Haiti grows poorer and poorer, with many violent mutinies and revolts needed to be suppressed. Hunger is the common state of the island, and the Church of Voodoo is running out of options. Half of the Holy Council begins to seek people with knowledge of agarthan sorcery to seek mystical solutions to the growing poverty and misery. The other half begins preaching that the only solution for the survival of the Holy Empire is the return to Mother Africa.
-The preaching of a return to Africa becomes more and more strident, and with the start of the US Civil War, the slacking blockade allows multiple Haitian boats to sail into Africa, to seek a new start in Africa. Multiple Haitian settlements are created, but fights with the local population limit their growth, being just coast outposts and nothing more.
-The Church of Haiti is also used by the Union during the Civil War to weaken the southern states, with Union ships and contrabandists sending voodoo priests into the southern states to spread rebellion and dissent between the slaves and the black population. This was heavily suppressed by the Confederacy, but the New Orleans Uprising caused shockwaves into confederate-controlled America. Once the Union wins the Civil War, however, they quickly begin persecuting the Church of Voodoo, as they see its growing influence in the south as fuel for further tensions.
>>
>>92630256
>After the Panama War and the birth of PACT, Haiti is forced to sign the treaty, which in Haiti’s case includes a much stricter control over them. In fact, the US will establish a permanent outpost in La Hispaniola, from which a series of military police units will keep vigilance over Haiti’s affairs. After a failed rebellion and the murder of the US ambassador, the US officially takes over Haiti with the blessing of Britain and France, since they feared the spread of the Church of Voodoo into their Caribbean territories. The Holy Empire of Haiti is dissolved into the Republic of Haiti, with most of the Holy Council detained and/or executed.
>The US’ control over Haiti cuts off the ties between Haiti and their African outposts, which are left to fend for themselves. The western powers take a long time to take action against them, since agarthan affairs have left Africa in the background. Many priests of the Church of Voodoo go underground, while others try to create their own little fiefdoms in Africa, and some others begin preaching for the union of all Africans against the white devils.

If the current date of the setting is 1883, then the US flag would have 38 states, and thus use this flag. That is, unless the US makes their agarthan holdings into a state.

Pretty good read, just few things to point out:
- Too much voodoo from the start, especially for Poles since they absolutely love Jesus and Saint Mary, with Mary even being crowned as a Queen of Poland. Let it be the normal history up to the 1805, after which most Poles go back to Europe to fight again with Napoleon (yes, historically they fucked him over in Haiti, then came back using their connections in French military and were like "What's the next mission?"). Their main goal was to establish Duchy of Warsaw, which came in 1807 so I feel like this should play bigger part. They could go back to Europe with some new customs, maybe painting some symbols next to Christian cross, maybe making strange talismans and fetishes. "It worked back on Haiti" they say to their comrades. Still, the spread of the new cult would not be so quick.
Here I would like to point out a potential path that we could go with their symbolism - real painting of Black Madonna, which is depicted as "Hodegetria" - Mary with her hand pointing at Baby Jesus for salvation and Jesus raising his hand in a blessing gesture. We could spice it up with her or Jesus pointing down, suggesting that salvation is somewhere underground. Something subtle but tying up to Agartha.
- Their departure to Africa could happen sooner, right after the end of Duchy of Warsaw in 1814. Now using their connections from their Haitian friends, they >somehow< end up as a colony in West Africa, with time creating a safe haven for exiled Poles? This would give them time to rebuild and be a somewhat potential minor faction in 1870's, let me know what do you think about this. That's when the voodoo would really start off but maybe we should think of a better name for their cult instead of repeating "voodoo" too often. Maybe something with Virgin Mary of the Deep.

Bringing back François Mackandal is a great idea.

>Too much voodoo from the start
I thought so as well, but I was hesitant to start the voodoo-polish syncretism too late. I would have imagined the haitians begin using as a form of resistence, but since Haiti gets its independence fairly early in the 19th century, it couldn't be used to fend off the french or other invaders.

>most Poles go back to Europe to fight again with Napoleon
That could be solved with only the poles that went deeper into voodoo being rejected outright, the ones who just fought for haitians without any voodoo ties could still return to Europe.

>Their departure to Africa could happen sooner, right after the end of Duchy of Warsaw in 1814
I could see it, though again, I would have prefered the idea of migrating back to Africa to take some more time, and be more a desperation move more than anything else. I mean, by 1814, the majority of the haitian population would have either been born in Haiti or have lived most of their lives in Haiti, not sure how many would want to go back, especially now that they won against their former masters.

>maybe we should think of a better name for their cult instead of repeating "voodoo" too often.
Agree, the names could use more thought. However, when I think of the Church of Voodoo, I think less of christianity with voodoo elements and more voodoo with a christian paintcoat.

Also, I can imagine there being the figure of the Baron Samedi becoming a strange figure in voodoo-polish people around. But instead of his usual attire, he wears highly elegant polish suit. He would still show the same behavior of drinking and partying, and noone who sees him can actually confirm whether he was real or something they imagined in a drunken stupor. I can see him appearing in areas where voodoo-polish would be particularly persecuted, such as southern USA or tsardom-controlled Poland.
>>

Fucking hell yeah those look perfect.
>>
>>92632121
I think they'd also experience a wave of migrants after the 1863 uprising, as the defeat and the general insanity happening around the world has more Poles turn to the voodoo cult.

I've been working on gathering sources for assembling how this history unfolds so this is great to have.
Someone put it in the doc tentatively and we can refine it later, if possible.

FOR NOW
I want to weave Bizango secret societies into the narrative. They fit perfectly and would explain a throughline between all Vodou-practising factions.
This is traditional vodou so remember, we ought to avoid all trope-y garbage. No voodoo dolls, no Baron Samedi in a top hat and skinny purple suit pants, etc.
Polish history is far from my forte so someone else covering that helps a lot. That said, a few thoughts on common ground,

>An apparent idea in Vodou is that the spirits are drawn to suffering people, an example I've found was a ritual where roast hot peppers are held in the mouth in order to commune with spirits. The Catholic practise of self-flagellation ties in well with this, and as Catholic elements are integrated into Vodou tradition in the west may be a common ground for the melding.

>But instead of his usual attire, he wears highly elegant polish suit.
I want to give an emphatic hell no to that from my end. I really want to avoid all pop/tourism voodoo tropes if possible.
The modern image of Bawon Samedi was largely solidified by François Duvalier in the mid 1920s.
His traditional depiction, as far as I can tell as its VERY hard to pierce through pop culture sources to find OG depictions, is
>Top hat is a corrupted version of a black Kente Kufi hat.
>A skeleton in a black cloak turned into a black guy in face paint wearing a European jacket.

I would much prefer Samedi, if present, to be within his original depiction. A skeleton, black kente kufi, black cloak. I would also suggest using Bawon Samedi. Baron is an anglicisation, he's not actually a Baron of anything.
"Bawon Samedi" translates to "Lord of Saturday" which I'm still looking into but has something to do with traditioinal associations of the West African/Hatian days.

I mean, Samedi is wearing black Kente Kufi and cloak because he was invoked by Africans for which that was a normal clothing. So Poles could have invoke their version of this lwa in black Polish clothes? He's lwa so he doesn't have corporeal form, he appears to people in more familiar to them fashion. His attire and form is probably perceived by everyone differently, human mind trying to make sense of what it sees. But that's just some thoughts, I actually don't know much about voodoo.

You seem to be the voodoo-research anon from the last thread, I like your approach to this topic and distincting pop-voodoo from the OGs.

So, I'm going to move Caltrops/Mantraps/Leaping Flowers to Equipment rather than the Toltakoi's profile. This way they can just be added to the opt equipment of appropriate units.
I'm also going to turn the Titanium Weapon part of the Titanium Stiletto into their own rule, so you can make any Atlan weapon into a Titanium one (which makes it so you have to reroll successfull armour saves). Between that and the Greek Fire Greese/Terror Tonic Atlan will be able to loadup its melee weapon to pretty insane levels, albeit at a Silver cost.
The Toltakoi's Tools of the Trade ability will be reworked to be that he has an infinite supply of the traps as long as you can pay for their Silver cost when deploying them.

>Giving British an Extra colony where the Spanish bit used to be
A capital idea! Simply splendid! Now if you'll excuse me I've got a sizeable donation to collect from the Cunningham Charitable Foundation.
In all seriousness if we're not focusing on Spain overmuch it would make sense. If you wanted to tie it into the lore you could say that Spain briefly had a colony before the Brits rolled up, like with how they did to all those other colonies. If nothing else I like the image of Carribean Spanish architecture in Agartha.
>>
>>92642924
Maybe a spanish colony in the 5th layer that somehow ended isolated and are basically 16th century spaniards? And since they are still loyal to the "Austrias" and see the Carlists as just "french monarchs", they might not want to integrate back into Spain?

doesnt require Spanish being present. i think 4th layer is far enough removed for everyone but the Italians that architecture styles will be very much influenced by materials, not to say climate. also, British Caribbean and Spanish Caribbean are fairly similar.

I can see that.

Ok, so I've tried my hand at making the 5th layer map. I've followed anon's suggestion of the layer being mostly water, but I've chosen to make some of the pillars massive, dividing the massive ocean into smaller seas. Any suggestions?

we just added that in part to Atlan.
>>92640200
all good changes.
>>
>>92643348
I honestly would think most of the 5th could be bayou/swampland. Not all of it, obviously, but perhaps we could differentiate the pure ocean from patches of shallow mires / swampland?
>>
>>92643348
Which one is Atlantis?
>>
>>92643348
I think the lower the layer, the more pillars there should be to support everything above
>>
>>92643679`
True also. But, also recall that space and physics
isn't quite sensible down there. So we may have some strange occurrences. Maybe some Titanium pillars make up for lacking actual mass.

El Greco was a Crete born Spanish Golden Age painter, might be a good place to draw inspiration for Atlan.

maybe add some more land directly on the east side of the long pillar on the east. if you go with the other anons suggestion, maybe make the area between the two far east pillars swamp and give a swamp or land outline to the polar pillars. connecting the eastern island without a pillar to the two small pillars near it with swamp. maybe add a swamp between the two main islands.
>>92643527
maybe with a green, or green lines.
>>
>>92643677
In theory, it would be the islands of not-santorini. Whether it would include the other islands, I'll leave it up to other anons.

>>92643679
I wanted to add a lot more of smaller islands and smaller pillars, but it's going to take some time, as it's finnicky work.

>>92643701
>>92643527
>adding swamp
I can increase the size of the eastern landmasses and make them swamp/bayou. But first I want to establish what'd be solid ground.

maybe make the polar pillars bigger every time, and leave rest to do whatever.
>>
Also, would the polar areas be actually cold? If so, all of the land around the polar pillars could be swamp.

>To be fair, anon who brought up Semedi said he could be in Polish attire, not in a top hat from the pic.
My sentiment on this issue is that literally at least five hundred thousand other games, settings etcs. feature stereotypical pop voodoo slop from Disney to basically every tabletop stetting that decides they want woah wacky look at that CRAAAZY African stuff! in it.
I'd rather it not be present in Expedition.
If we do start work on the African portion of the setting, it has to be genuine and properly researched. And it being genuine will legitimately contribute to ti being fresh.
>>
If we're (Read: One hero anon) really starting to work on the deeper layer maps we really should start thinking about how drainage works down there.
These water systems, and the power behind their currents, would be so mighty its likely hard to comprehend how much mass they could move.
The water streams crashing into the lowest layers would literally have the pressure and force of a half dozen oceans behind them.

The deeper you go under the crust the more you'd think that the planet's electromagnetic forces find resistance to heat something up so I think it'd be hotter closer to the poles on the deeper layers but maybe I'm being dumb.

Considering the 9th layer is totally frigid, and below that is apparently habitable to Lemurs, I suspect consistent temperature was more of an afterthought to the forces that shaped the depths.
Basically, shit's weird, yo.

i dont think we should worry about the physics too much. this is a game about hollow earth after all. i think if we start down the path of trying to rationalize things that where not meant to be rationalized we will never get anything done.

it would vary layer to layer, for the 5th i doubt it.

Anon, I suggested the Baron Samedi stuff, he put a decent argument and I see his point. I still want to see a polish-ified voodoo folklore figure as a character of sorts, but I can understand his idea of avoiding easy stereotypes. Let us not be mad and work together.
>>
>>92644252
>I still want to see a polish-ified voodoo folklor
I'm more than happy to accomodate this but researching both Polish and Vodun folklore at the same time is a large undertaking.

For me, I'm starting with just West African folklore and seeing what I can build. If anyone wants to contribute Polish folklore ideas for me to integrate along the way, I'll do my best. Otherwise it'll be the second part of development for me, after the core west African/Caribbean history stuff is done.

Maybe I'll come up with something for the Polish part next week, for now I think >>92632121 the painting of Black Madonna of Częstochowa is a good lead for their theme. It doesn't strike like something sacriligious, more like Da Vinci Code kind of thing.

As for the tying figure like Bawon Samedi with Polish folklore, there were different "devils" (they were called Leshy by pre-christian Slavs). One of the more famous, named Rokita, was said to live in places connected to the underworld, like swamps, forests and hollows of old trees. In some legends, devils (including Rokita) could appear as nobles. I don't know much about voodoo and Samedi but maybe this could lead somewhere.

The Lwa traditionally are said to live underwater. That's a decent connection.

Tell you what, if you're happy handling the Polish/West African side of things, I'd be happy covering the Caribbean and southern US side of things. We can synthesise our thoughts after some development?
>>
Ok, I've added some more land and added some distinctions in the land (green swamps, brown mountains and red volcanoes. The rest I imagine is either tropical or mediterranean landscapes).

I didn't want to add more land on the eastern side, as I wanted the lands between the great pillars to be more isolated from the central lands, much more influenced by atlantean culture.
>>
>>92644747
>The Lwa traditionally are said to live underwater
Well then it suits the Silesian version of him in which he was said to be Utopiec / Topielec, basically mostly evil water spirit.
>>
>>92644810
Hell yeah man. Write up some docs, we'll get this shit done. Poles were sizeable contributors to the Haitian revolution too, so we have a loose connection there to jump off from how West Africa and Haiti connect.
That would be, through the Polish, weirdly enough. What an insane faction.

I have an idea of certain species of very strong creeping vines growing as tall as the pillars, and some sort of savage tribe living on the heights, but for now I'm not sure how it would work.
>>
>>92644909
>I have an idea of certain species of very strong creeping vines growing as tall as the pillars
Ah, the 5th and its vertical jungles. Dinosaur predators chasing their prey, by great leaps across sideways-standing trees. Whole clades of beasts living entirely in the vines.
What a place.
>>
>>92643679
Except the Frozen Ninth, which has no pillars at all...
>>
>>92644802
Question: Why are there vast stone pillars corresponding with the poles? What is buried within all that rock I wonder? What, indeed, is buried beneath the frozen ice of the 2nd layer? If the forces of electromagnetism are no longer in play, then why do all compasses point north?
>>
>>92644993
Ahhh so the layers are somewhat connected to Dante's Inferno? I didn't realize it earlier
>>
>>92645036
>Question: Why are there vast stone pillars corresponding with the poles? What is buried within all that rock I wonder?
They're not vast. They just look huge because this is based on a 3d projection into 2d space.
>>
>>92645038
We live in the 2nd layer - Lust, 3rd is Gluttony, 4th Greed, 5th Anger, 6th Heresy, 7th Violence, 8th Fraud and 9th, the frozen one, Treachery. If we can subtly connect the layers to Dante that would be amazing. But it should be VERY subtle, like a reader should think about it and connect all the dots by himself.
>>
>>92645085
I think the anon who wrote the 9th layer said it implicitly connected with Dante's 9th, though an inverse, for the betrayed like Napoleon.
>6th Heresy
>Where Lemuria larping as Old Lemuria hangs out

Quick doodle of the giant vines. They would be part of massive jungles that spread both sideways and upwards, but as they need a certain amount of solid ground as well as the pillars' support, they cannot grow everywhere.

Wow, today has been a very productive day, hasn't it?

Also, what are people's thoughts on making Agartha's Pass, the Infinite Layer, a layer between layers, instead of a vague thing below the 9th? A kind of pocket layer that can theoretically be accessed from any of the other layers, but doesn't physically correspond with any time or place, a realm of its own that seems even more lethal to permanent settlement than others, but quite welcome to passing travellers and those who are lost...

This has been touched on before in sparse ideas, with the mythical one-horned Gorg from beyond reality among other things.
Never really developed, but it has floated around.

Wouldn't that be like Yggdrasil from Norse mythology?
It also reminds me of the spirit world of lwa mentioned in the previous thread (except the "welcome to passing travellers" part)

The real question is
why are we using globe projection maps when earth confirmed for flat?
>>
I mean sure, yeah , globe projections worked for our layer's navigation but that's only because of Hyperborean spacial distortions. We DID navigate by the stars (Of the Psychic Sea, no less) after all.

But below? Surely globular projections would mean nothing, down there.
>>
>>92645986
why? why cant globes be inside of globes?
>>
>>92645306
Will do.
>>92646006
>why?
It reinforces the idea that things get weird the further you get down. Physics were already thrown out the window when Layer Shifts were devised, it only got worse as time and spatial distorsions and anomalies where added on.

flat earth makes as much sense as russian nesting doll earth and has the down side of being a meme and breaking the core "as above so below" theme and would mean someone would have to redo the maps that where just redone. i think the costs outweigh the benefits. i thought maybe earth on the inside of a globe instead of the outside, and the layers being farther away from the center as an alternative, but that is just change for the sake of it i think. i think the core lore is in a good place.
>>
>>92646138
What no one is suggesting we truly switch to Flat Earth, or at least certainly not me. But matching map projections is completely unneeded, the fact Fallen Paris (or anything, really) is completely out of line with the 2nd does not matter.
