Three days notice, standard issue fifty levels of nondisclosures and vetting interviews something new. You worked for The Organization for a little over two decades and not once were you granted a meeting with The Board. if the dark room where the supposed board members using voice modulators could be called a meeting. they wanted everything to be kept in house and very hush hush and had decided you were the man for the job.

The Organization has long had a shadowy reputation. For the most part being viewed as a PMC or security analysts, but they had their fingers in many pots and this new operation had something to do with their lesser known branches.

It was some sort of off the books research facility they wanted to keep off the books and especially out of the hands of governmental and oddly enough religious organizations according to the many gag and summary termination clauses in the paperwork filled out. you would be handed a dossier with a fuller detail on what assets and personnel you were going to be administrating.

Administrating... this would be a nice change of pace to your usual work for The Organization. Hopefully it would be for the better, but first there was one last form to fill out...

How many times do you have to fill out the same data over and over again. its not like it changed from the last twelve forms.

You exit the blacked out chopper on the helipad noting that the Facility is located in a temperate region, just beyond the perimeter fence is an unbroken wall of pine trees. Your assistant, whom you had just met for the first time on the flight in, went over the basics of the Facilities assets and personnel and its primary function.

You have a small security contingent living on site, 12 guards in total running 3 man shifts (Perimeter, Security Room, and Front Desk) supplied by an armor stocked with 9mm handguns and light body armor.

You have a garage with a pair of TO standard utility vehicles. A Chinese knock off brand, but the fact that its spelled Joop doesn't mean it wont start. with 2 mechanics who report to you maintenance lead who handles most everything else that needs to be done around the place that isn't overly technical.

You have a state of the art science lab with 1 researcher and four auxiliary employees listed only as observers.

The living quarters are set up in a fairly standard dorm system. everyone currently is living single occupancy but the facilities can handle up to triple occupancy if the personnel are needed. The building has five rooms to a floor with three floors. And the ostentatiously named penthouse on the fourth floor is devoted entirely to your own living space.

Last but not least in the facilities core, The Rift.

The Rift is some form of quantum anomaly, not yet wholly pinned down. Apparently there are several such things dotted across the world, but they are all locked behind layer after layer of securely locked doors and boundless superstition. Except that one in the middle of Russia, that one is buried under several thousand tons of burning rock.

The Organization stumbled across this one through means undisclosed to you and intends to delve its many secrets.

You stare dubiously at the personnel file in your had. Samantha Frine, your researcher. Her hair is pulled into an unkempt bun and seems to be staring off to the left of the camera. Since research is the name of the game here you might want to get to know her. Or maybe you should make sure the security situation is handled... or get right down to brass tacks and check out the Rift Chamber.

You head down to the security office and find Jenkins Peters the officer on duty for the shift. there isn't really a head of security they are supplying you with one of the tertiary teams but Peters is the senior most officer. these guys are basically mall cops with real guns, you aren't sure if you are too comfortable with that, but it also probably means that TO doesn't feel there is much of a security risk at this juncture. The small scale and the secrecy precautions taken to keep this place very much off the radar are the first if all but only defense from intrusion from the outside world.

Peters yawns at the monitors, and lets you know there was a fox by the fence earlier, but your chopper sent it packing. You watch the way he holds himself, and decide his lackadaisical persona is actually a careful facade, the TO does not employ useless people, it seems more that he prefers the desk jobs even though he probably has the skills to be on a secondary or maybe even primary team.

10 10 10 super good this will result in total success with in reason of the task at hand and probobly some other secondary bonus (trait, materials, etc.)
1 1 1 if no really good roll. Utterly failed, will probably result in loss of materials or personnel.

aside from that a bad or good is all depending on the difficulty of the task. trying to hold open the rift with your bare hands will probably have a very high DR and likely result in wounding (Bad to serious badness) or minor burns (good) or you simply fell flat on your ass (really good) That said the Rift is a twisting quantum wrongness so getting out of that sort of encounter with all your fingers is takes some effort.

You head down to the Research lab, lots of thing beeping and there is a perpetual pressure on your ears from the metric ton of muffin fans keeping all the high end computer equipment from melting itself.

Instead of finding the messy haired brunet you find a mildly obese gentleman in a blue T-shirt looking mildly lost. at the sight of you he brightens steps forward and offers you a mildly sweaty hand.

"You must be the new boss, look a might less 'ask to many questions and no one sees ya again.' Hope that's what you were going for." he flinches as he suddenly realizes he might have said something that could trigger one of those summary termination clauses in his contract.

Ah you remember the days when you were a new employee and didn't yet realize that such clauses were rarely used. Official anyway what with the record of the employee involved in the incident being entirely scrubbed.

This is Jim, one of your auxiliary staff, an observer. he explains his and his four compatriots (Brenda, Bobby, and Rachel) are paid to watch the rift. Something to do with wave forms or quantum stability.. hes not too sure about why himself but from what he tells you the Rift Chamber is liable to change properties temporal distortions, one section of wall being swapped with another section, things of that nature. theoretically just having a person within 50 meters should stop these things from happening, but Ms. Frine recommended visual confirmation as she is still unable to find or make sensor equipment that can even register that the thing is even there.

You try to get ahold of your missing researcher but she has left her radio here in the lab, and Peters just says, "She wanders about sometimes" and that "she always turns up." You think about waiting around for her but you really do want to see this Rift thing that you are now the administrator of.

You'll see her soon enough, maybe shes in the Rift Chamber anyway.

You make your way through the various decontamination protocols and suit up to enter the clean room environment. After the final set of airlock doors you come into a rather plain concrete walled room surrounding a ring of head sized round stones set in a ring in the undisturbed dirt floor. You can see the faintest remnants of what may have been carvings done by some primitive culture but weather has nearly completely washed them away.

You look over and see another mildly obese man this one in a white T-shirt and a short trimmed beard, this must be Bobby. hes sitting at a desk with a notebook and a pen staring intently at the middle of the ring of stones.

Ms. Frine isn't here sadly but the walls are dotted with her work, cables and computer components, Dishes and other odd domed objects dot the Chamber.

But the thing that is most interesting is whats floating about half a meter in the center of the stone ring. A transparent but slightly shimmering tear in the fabric of reality. It kind of looks like a lightning bolt that cant make up its mind on whether its going up or down. As you stare at it it suddenly spasms as if struck by something.

Bobby to your left mutters under his breath "That's new" as he begins to scribble something down on his notebook

The Rift twitches again then takes on a muddy orange color. A number of the machines in the room begin to beep and hum. Then the middle of the angry indecisive lightning bolt bulges and what can only be described as regurgitating a gray brown stone onto the floor of the chamber.

after a few moments the stone unfolds itself seeming to be a creature, humanoid in shape with a too wide mouth and tiny little cinder bright eyes slapped to close together in the middle of a broad flat face.

This isn't something from earth, you would know you filed the paperwork on every jungle, desert and tundra critter any mission came in contact with and this thing just didn't fit.

"Hey there, hey little guy." you try to sound as non-threatening as possible while still clicking off the safety on your 9mm side armand it seems to work. The... thing nearly bounces up onto its stubby legs standing at about a meter tall. It spreads its now unstintingly wide maw into a grin composed of row after row of needle like teeth.

It opens its mouth but instead of words or even vocalizations a voice that is somehow both resonant and squeaky seems to resonate from the area near the creature.

and thats when Bobby loses it. He shreeks flipping his small desk as he jump us but seems to not be able to decide whether to run for the door, to behind you or to just curl up into a ball. this also seems to draw the attention of the who begins to plod in the general direction of the stricken observer win a stumbling chaotic gate that seems to lack any sort of rhythm in relation to stride length or direction.

Simple hand waving isn't going to cut it, you draw your fire arm and shout at the thing. It pauses, its rocky body coiled like a spring but its focus is now completely on you.

On the side of its head are two lumps that seem to twitch slightly at each whimper and the access denied message that comes up as he pounds away at the security keypad in a panic.

SOSUGA RASHGA

You are slightly disconcerted that it doesn't move its mouth to speak. Simply opening its maw and sound is generated. You seem to have its attention, but its demonstrating predatory body language. It wants to pounce on the frightened weaker target. Its tiny orange eyes keep switching focus between your drawn weapon, your legs, and the space between you and Bobby.

You seem to have pulled off some sort of stalemate. You weren't an operator or very good at dealing with Conflict resolution or much to do with personnel so you are kind of at a loss on what to do. So you turn to your mainstay when someone less skilled as you misfiled something or turned in a shoddy report. When all else fails make it up as you go along.

>Deal with the situation
>>

Keep it suppressed until a containment team comes along. Use our "firing a shitty worker" voice to command it to stay put (mostly for the tone of command). Ask if it can understand us.
>>
You try to dial up the command in your voice. You've never really had to do it before but now that you are a Site administrator you might as well try it out.

You straiten your stance a bit and try to keep a steady stream of directions flowing at the creature. when Peters' voice comes through the walkie.

"Someone triggered the security lockout for the Rift Chamber, I'm running the security override but it will take about a minute. I have another officer with me but things coming out of the rift isn't really on the training roster. How should we play this when the door opens?"

The creature seems to be nearly vibrating with anticipation. Your commanding voice wont hold it much longer. Especially since the meaning of the words seems to have no significance only the tone of your voice. You need a plan.

>Hands on. as soon as the door opens dog pile the thing. the security team should have zip-ties for dealing with intruders, but you have no idea what this thing is capable of.
>Shout the thing down. Adding the officers voices to your own should help.

You convey your plan to Peters and just as you clue him in the door opens. Bobby immediately falls through the door almost tripping the other officer but Peters is barely fazed.

At the same moment the creature leaps with a hiss, this sound clearly from the things throat and without the bizarre resonance. in a moment its past you only to come face on to Peters' boot.

You notice the thing trying to get its legs back underneath it and dive in keeping it from regaining its balance while the other officer comes in and places his own weight into the mix.

The thing being a little over a meter in height simply doesn't have the mass to push you off, but it makes an attempt to bite the other officer as Peters reaches back to grab a pair of zip-ties to properly immobilize the subject.

6,9,8 More better

Quickly you swat the thing on the back of the head and tell it to cut it out. It seems to respond almost instinctively to your authoritative tone and snaps its mouth shut.

You hear a clicking sound and realize Peters has produced a pair of metal hand cuffs and not the plastic ties which are on the equipment manifest. He notices your look of confusion but simply waves a hand as if handcuffs are something people just carry around.

Now with its arms firmly secured you all let go of the thing. Its hard rocky skin is a fair bit warmer then would be comfortable to touch but not quite enough to burn skin from short contact. You wouldn't trust plastic ties to function long term but the cuffs should be enough for the moment without need to rush things.

"So what is it?" you hear from the direction of the airlock door. Your researcher stands there, but instead of the vacant look you saw in her personnel file she seems rather mousy and unsure of herself. Peeking around the door frame she does a quick servay of the room "Only one, that's good. My instruments still cant see the anomaly but they can see that little guy. I heard the security team shouting 'A person came out of the Rift.'" She seems to switch for a short time from mousy to very focused "I sent Brenda to go grab my things from the lab, if you could tell her to bring an empty rat cage over the talkies she should have mine by now. It would be a tight fit but should hold that thing in a pinch" Then she quickly reverts to a slouching posture almost like shes perpetually trying to melt into the ground and go unnoticed.

You ask her if there is anything bigger you might be able to use to contain it and are informed that there are containment units for primates that could be ordered but you would have to wait a month before the next resource shipment. Peters informs you they could order a team to build an extension to the compound but that would also be restricted to a month to get the build team organized and materials shipped in.

The time limit of materials and personnel is a security measure that is something iron clad and Organization leadership will not budge on this mater.

That said Ms. Frine assures you that it should be large enough, as it is one of two cages in storage designed for transporting the lab rats to the Facility which are already in individualized containment as parts of various basic tests. The creature would be able to almost stand in the thing, but wouldn't have much space beyond that.

Alternatively you could put in an empty apartment, but that would be far less secure.

The cage will do, the creature squirms a bit as he is placed in it but doesn't seem to do much more then belt out a Sosuga Hugabuga or two.

After such an eventful and hectic first day on the job you decide to keep strictly to your administrative tasks. trying your best to avoid the Rift Chamber for as long as possible. Nothing else comes out of it for the next couple days and from the observers reports it seems to be back to business as usual.

Samantha Frine sends you a list of potential research projects that she thinks can produce results.

>Examine energy spike readings from Anomaly event(negligible scanner improvement)
>Study the physical structure of the creature, tentatively designated as Imp(material information)
>Catalog Imp language(negligible benefit, bonus from Resource Management)

You also go over the general operating needs of the Facility. You can also change security protocols and prepare orders for equipment as well as construction of facility buildings.

>Change Orders? Currently rotations of 3 on perimeter, security room, and internal.

>additional equipment order? Weapons, armor, other?

>Buildings? Small Airstrip for light aircraft, additional living space, other?

You don't have a fixed budget, but spending to much might be frowned upon. Also the more materials you ship in and disappear off of official operations ledgers will increase the risk of the outside world taking notice of your facility.(this is reduced by your PPO)
