Welcome to A song of Misery and Salt: House Fraser Quest!
You take the role of Hoster Fraser heir of House Fraser, a small House in the Iron Islands. Life has been hard for you and yours, and it promise to become harder in the next few months.

On the way to the granary the situation is explained as much as your men could have gathered, the bandits – an amalgamation of different, smaller groups than the ones you hunted previously and men led by Olyvar Pyke; launched an attack on two fronts.

The men defending the granary in the hope of striking a morale blow to your forces. Melwyn, taking control of the host, ordered Rodrik to fan his men out in search for would be ambushers and to deny means of escaping should they beat an retreat.

"Take a few of my boys and some of Rodrik's men with you Jeor, I'll hold the granary for as long as necessary while you hunt that dog Olyvar." If he had any pity for the man before, it disappeared in the time it took him to formulate a plan.

A smaller band, most likely the ex-infantrymen, made for the hamlet proper and set fire to the houses and hovels of the smallfolks residing half an hour from Fraserholm. Having be warned about by a group of fleeing smallfolks that they had started raping and killing anyone that opposed them or struck their fancy.

It isn't long before one of the archers come back with news, "men, my lord; waiting by the road to the hamlet. They hold themselves like soldiers and don't look like they are set to block our path." He describe hastily, "Might be an ambush, we've set out to provide fire support should anything happen." He finish with a nod to you and Jeor. After a minute of deliberation it is decided to approach them cautiously, not long after that you came across the men – infantrymen, who unlike the group guarding the granary took to robbing travelers on the outskirt of your lands but unlike Olyvar's men didn't resorted to violence against their victims, yet.

"Out of the way, scum. We are in a hurry to liberate the smallfolks from your ilk's predation." Jeor's usually jovial tone has been replaced with one promising great harm should they not comply in an hurriedly manner. The men shuffling nervously, darting looks left and right, unwilling to look at the towering captain holding his longaxe firmly in his hand.

>>
"I said move, else I'll be moving you to the Hall of the Drowned God." The tension reach another height with this final warning, the infantry line finally forming without a conscious though, years of drilling made them react to the threat posed by Jeor's comment. One man, clear his throat and break the spear wall formation.

"Peace, Jeor. We only came to propose our help, we're not Olyvar's men. They came to us, asked us to join them in this folly and we told them to piss off." He starts shakily before turning to you. His voice hoarse, a face weathered by years of harsh training and rough sleeping stare back at you pockmarked by liver spots.

A man of maybe four and ten, already losing his hairs, the few remaining turning gray "We knew that if we joined them, Lord Fraser would have us killed. Fuck, he might have us already written off for what we did." he finish lamely, a small shaking coursing his being.

Why yes, you can. Especialy if you keep getting good roll. I'll wait a bit more, if no one else roll I'll start working on the update.
>>
Guess this time is either too early or too late for some.
>>
>success, one degrees.

He's afraid, you realize; of your father, of the House even in its weakened state. There's also something else he is afraid of, you need to find out. You could use that fear to your advantage, either by intimidating them into submission or by convincing them to join your cause for lighter punishment should they survive.

"Why should we have need of your services?" You ask, spearing him with a glare, he hold your gaze a moment before turning his dull green eyes to the ground."What is your name and rank, soldier?" You remember Melwyn dressing down men by addressing them as such.

"Gerrion." He stutters, "I'm Gerrion, m'lord. I'm the sergeant of this unit." He flinch when Jeor's growl and he correct himself, straightening his posture "Was, I was the sergeant."

"Explain yourself, sergeant. Why did Pyke came to you before he launched his attack, you aren't telling me everything are you?" You ask, sparring a look at Jeor from the corner of your eyes. A subtle nod is all he gives you, he understand your game - you'll be the carrot or the stick, he'll be the bigger stick. "Talk and be quick about it, we have a hamlet to save." You are still racing against time, you cannot tarry long.

"Y-yes, m'lord. He said that together with his men and his allies we could topple the power of House Fraser, m'lord. Said we could take over Fraserholm with the men from Fyrik and that he may gift us lands as reward for bending the knee." He says quickly, "I've seen Fyrik's land, m'lord, and the smallfolks there have it rougher than here. It'd be a bad trade having Fyrik lording over here."

>How do you want to proceed? By intimidating him or placating him. Too much of either and he might clamp up with different results. Write-ins are also welcome.
>roll me a 4d6, regardless against a routine DC, best of 3.
>I'll have to take my food break real soon.

>>426970
Nah nah I'm here op.
Let's order these guys to be a flanking/distraction force for the assault on the granary. Let's have them make minimal noise and plant them with fake orders of assault should they be killed by an ambush. We will just blitz the fuck out of them. From an opposite direction and the archers will be there for close fire support and to encircle ambushers.

"You and your men are with me now, Gerrion. Kill the traitors who pillage my land!" Take the men, they can fight and we won't decide on their punishment now.

>Success, two degrees.

"Fyrik? I would assume that his men came to you shortly after my father 'released' you from his services?" You ask in the coldest tone you could muster; Gerrion can only nod in response. With a sigh you continue, "Of course, he wouldn't miss the chance we served him on a platter, and Olyvar was quick to jump at the chance."

"Would you be able to recognize him should we capture him alive?" Demands Jeor, "What about the men holding the hamlet, what kind of troops can we expect?"

Maybe - he replies stiffly, "M'lord, me an' my men only took to robbin' because we had nothin' else." He starts, before you cut him off with a raised hand.

"You could have taken to fishing, or even mining in Lord Lothston's quarry. Spare me your excuses, I don't need them." Looking upon Jeor who gives a tight nod before turning back to the sergeant, studying his face, then looking at each of his men.
"I am in need of information, about the men we are against, their numbers, their skills, their weakness. Anything that would provide for their captures." You stop, letting a moment pass before continuing. "I also need spears, shields, swords and axes. Men who can use them and use them well."

"They are busy drinking and fuckin' m'lord, they barely raised any defense." You look at Gerrion with an incredulous stare, is this all the information they can give you? You are of a mind of letting Jeor mow them down for such waste of time.

"I'm disappointed, sergeant. I dared against hope that you'd give me insight worthy of a pardon," you begin with a shake of your head. "You give me nothing to plead for your case to my father." You finish in a sorrowful tone. Jeor is doing his best to not grin like an idiot, you've twisted the knife perfectly.

The men looked at each other's wondering what to do, what to say. Gerrion's brow furrowed in consternation, a concerned look upon his face, here come his final gamble, you think.

"We'll help you, m'lord. On the promise you'll spare us from your father's wroth." He's trembling, but his resolve is set.

aww shit, that's 3 degrees of success. That's kinda bad in a way, I'll have to rework how those guys gonna fit into the House.

I'll wait a few more for dice and maybe write-ins other than curse words.

Put dice+4d6 into the options field when replying.

Or maybe you can set a maximum amount of success depending on the protagonist's skills? Like, he talks well so he can have up to 3 successes for talking but fighting get's him max. 1 success?

>>427145
type dice+(the number of dice)d(nature of dice) in the option field.

Sometimes you'll be asked to add or remove something, you'll have to do dice+1d6+2 for adding and dice+1d6+-2 for removing somthing out of a d6 or anything the dice system demands.

And I keep forgeting my trip

"You and your men are with me now, cunt. You fight who I tell you to fight, when I tell you to fight." You snarl out with such vehemence that Jeor is taken aback for a second. "My father's wroth is the least of your concern, you'll face it not because I order you to but for this is the only way to redeem yourself in the eye of the Drowned God." You reign in your temper and take a moment to roll your neck. "Jeor, we go." You leave Gerrion behind, white as a sheet and smelling fouler than you met him.

"You made a grown man soil himself, Hoster." Jeor mutters, "He's going to fight with his breech full of shit." He laugh finally, you aren't far behind him.

Soon enough you arrive at the outskirt of the village. A few smoldering hovels welcoming you, the butchered people hung on the few logs standing.

With a nod and a wave of your arm your men fan out and slowly walk between the streets, waiting for the signal to attack.

The guy is only wearring cloth+surprise Ironbon+your superior weapon. I don't wanna calculate of hard you hit the poor guy.

I actually forgot that you have the Blood of the Ironmen which give you +1d to your fighting roll once every fight so you might have rolled 7d6. Would have been a waste anyway.

The first sentry never saw you coming, your axe lodging itself deeply into his back, with a flick of your wrist you remove your weapon roughly from your first victim taking care to hold him while leading him to the ground. Around you the gurgles reaching you are all you need to know that so far none of those bandits are aware of their death approaching. turning back toward the center of the hamlet, you keep your eyes and ears open to anything that could give you away.

A sob and a slap makes you stop nearby, a muffled voice and an anguished female cry providing you with your next target. Slowly opening the door, you enter the foyer turning toward the bedroom to the right where the noise is coming from, taking care not to disturb the elder man dead by the door, his throat slit.

The side of a man furiously rutting a red haired peasant girl greets you, his face cradled between the huge tracts of land of the poor girl. Her eyes have that far away look and she barely realize someone else is in the room, with a wave you manage to make her focus again, forcing her to keep quiet before you are ready to strike.

Fear and hope, joy and grief are waging a war in her eyes forcing you to make a choice.

Raising your axe for the girl to see you wait for her nod her understanding, with another nod she brace herself for what is coming. Her body suddenly locking make the man look up toward her face, a puzzled look forming on his when he watch her looking to her left.

Turning his head as well his face came into view, the face of the man you desperately needed to find. With barely a though you bring your axe to his neck, the strike so fast he manage to utter your name before a bubble worm its way out of his slit throat. Realization makes him trash around but his movement are stopped by the legs of his victim locking him in place. His arms trying to staunch the flow jerkily before she grabs them too, pulling him forward and painting her milky white breasts with a red not unlike her hair.

A few moment into his jerking motion, you realize Olyvar's victim is also moving jerkily, moving to remove his weight off her, the gasp and moans that follow quickly make you aware of the nature of her predicament.

You aren't sure how to deal with that.

A few days later, you are again sitting in the council room discussing the aftermath of Olyvar Pyke's assault; his men and a few better equipped bandits were actually distracted by the alcohol and women they had captured which made retaking the settlement a much easier affair with only a handful of casualties to your men.

The granary assault was a more bloody front with about twenty men from your garrison dead or grievously wounded and a dozen infantrymen laid down protecting the building. A quick deliberation between Melwyn, Jeor and your father saw them pardoned and reinstated into the depleted units with the left overs being used as a peace keeping force not unlike their previous employment.

>Behold, my shitty map.

"Gerrion's proving to be useless for more answers." Grumbles Melwyn, while the men under his command did not resist their arrest following the return to Fraserholm, the amount and quality of useful information has been somewhat lacking.

he point at a the map of Orkwood with the major settlements, "We know that Ulmer is recruiting lowlifes to make trouble for everyone from Chandyl to our lands, how many and where are questions we cannot answer yet but a good guess would be the cave systems in the West or the castle ruins in the East." He points to both places, circling them a few times. "The caves would take us weeks if not more to search with our troops." He finish with a shake of his head.

"I already ordered my best men to survey the entrances closest to his lands. We'll have their numbers soon enough," Rodrik start, "I have some of my men following the traces of those who escaped the assault on the granary, some went toward the deepest parts of the woods, toward the tower." He finish, looking around.

"The tower is held by a son of Lord Brynsalt, we cannot pursue them if they hide on his lands. I will write a letter explaining the situation to both Lord Brynsalt and his son." Your father sigh, looking paler than usual. His fur coat tightly held around him, "Hoster, you will review my letter before sending it, I fear I may be on the eve of another episode." He doesn't look your way while saying that, but the three captains certainly do.

"Yes, father." You reply tightly, it couldn't have happened at a worst time. The House need the strength of its lord more than ever. "What about the repairs to the granary? What about the food stock?" You quickly change subject looking at Melwyn.

"A month, thankfully the damage was minimal and we didn't lose much," the older officer smile "In our misfortune, the fire actually helped us. With a quarter of our population deported to Fyrik's village or Lonestone we have more than enough food to last almost five years. If we rebuilt our fisherman's wharf we could sustains ourselves even longer."

1/2
>>
"I'd rather raise another unit while we have the coins, but I agree with the wharf idea." Rodrik nods, not saying much for once.

Jeor who had been silent for most of the council finally joins in, "This unit would most likely be undisciplined and green as the mainland, barely able to follow orders and fight in an organized manner. But it is true, we need more men." He spare look at Melwyn before continuing, "We also need to decide what to do with Gerrion and his men, they've been put to the rebuilding of the hamlet and the granary when not being questioned but what should we do with them when we have no more questions?" He sits straighter into his chair, "They were of help in making the capture of Olyvar's men much easier but they nonetheless took to banditry. What should we do with them? Lifetime forced labor? Death? The Wall?" He ask looking at each of the men present. "These men are highly trained, it'd be a shame to waste that training by putting them in chains or sending them to their death by drowning or to the Wall."

"If may my Lord," Rodrik cuts in, "We should retake the logging camp soon, why not use them in this task and decide what to do with them after this is done?" He ask.

>Do you attack the logging camp?

>What do you propose about these men, they are about thirty.

If we don't kill the traitors immediately, will we be seen as pushovers by our neighbours or the smallfolk? Or is our reputation enough to prevent people from calling us pussies?

I'll take a moment to comment on this map of mine, the borders you see are what the House would be entitled to own, things are quite different in fact with the woods a no man's land where anything goes, House Fyrik muscled it's way into taking control of most of it while your house is in a bad position.
>>

>Do you attack the logging camp?
Yes

>What do you propose about these men, they are about thirty.

>Forced Labor.

I'd rather wait for more people to voice their opinions, no offense RfJ2LV+O anon, just that this is something I feel needs to be debated more if possible.

not saying that I'm also out of writting material, but....

Also I know that I'm a "2/10 It's shit" writter but I'd like the opinion of everyone on how things are so far, especially if some of the guys who were there in the first two threads are still there.
What should I work on more(everything)?
Where did I do okay(nowhere)?
Should I kill myself?
>>
>>427859
House Fyrik is our direct Western neighbour? If he muscled in, that means he has lumberjacks there, which we can capture for our own use, right? (because they trespassed on our land, they work for us now)

Well that is just from hearsay, but you know about 3 noble daughters of various age(one is the age of your father). That's only on your Island. You are almost blind and deaf of what's going on in the the Iron Islands as a whole right now, since you have no Maester.

You'll need a Maester to unlock the waifu road.
I need to work on the marriage possibilities.

>>428037
And now i know what we need to rush next. A Maester will unlock all kinds of goodness.

I like the quest. The bad situation our House is in makes it more interesting. I enjoy reading about our Axe Lord fighting his enemies. The ill father is a nice touch too!
>>

Looking forward to next time then!
If we're rolling so well: maybe we need more enemies. The character interactions make the world seem more alive too...
>>
Right, then I guess the camp is gonna be reclaimed next, I might have you roll for the whole thing at some point instead of doing an action scene.

>enough food to last almost five years
Wow!
Well I've rolled the characters of your father/grandfather/and so forth for a while and most of them had something soft going for their smallfolks, either by being a greedy/charitable lord in motivation/virtue or having stability/security/devoted somewhere.

For Gerrion's men it looks a bit like forced labor is in the lead?
>>
>>428041
A maester will cost you 10 wealth, right now you are at 8.
>>
>>428091
And i'm totally willing to get one at next opportunity. I just hope our rolls agree with us.
>>
>>427935
And the only advice i can offer if you're worried about quality is maybe read House Karban Quest in the archives, it was a very good read when it was going. It may give you some ideas.

but that's this anon's two cents.
>>
>>428100
And I still forgot to retake my name, whatever.

I guess I'll continue with you guys, are you in agreement to taking the camp and forced labor?

I forgot to make a pastbin or something with the current stats of the House, so I could post a quick and dirty recap of your stat if you so wish.

You also have 3 Power laying around would you like to raise the unit now? Or wait on it?
Mind you if you raise it now it won't be ready for the attack on logging camp
>>
>>428126
I'm fine with raising a new unit now. Wouldn't mind seeing the dirty stats either for a refresher.

Forced labor of some sort, either conscription into a labor gang or the low ranks/cannon fodder of the army for now. We can always re evaluate our position on them later.
>>
>>428119
I have Karban, Harrock, Bordain, Brachen and Malroy open right now.

While I'm talking about the previous quests, I'll change a bit of Hoster's history. I said in the House creation thread that Tywin knighted you, but after rereading Brachen I feel having Garrette "Ironborn fucking shits" Brachen being the unlucky bastard having the displeasure to knight your ass is much better overall.

It changes nothing to the story. It's just a nice thing for a quest that died before it's time.

Right, here is the army unit builder, how it work is as such.
1st you'll think I want this unit to be xyz experienced, so you'll take a certain number of power for experience.
2nd you'll think I want this particular unit and you'll take the unit power+the experience out of your total power resource

There are two units that use resource other than power, Mercs and Levies. They use wealth and population.

Of course you can throw money at the whole thing if you want your unit to be uber strong, but it cost 2 wealth to raise 1 point of power.

I'm taking a picture of what an unit do atm, so bear with me.

"I think we should retake the logging camp, it's resource will help us greatly once we repair anything that might be destroyed." You say after a moment of though, "We should place Gerrion and his men into forced labor and have them repairs our holdings and defend the smallfolk should anything happen if our troops are not available."

The men looks at you for a moment before agreeing on the punishment. Time will tell if your choice was the right one. Jeor clear his throat, nodding to Lord Fraser before receiving a nod in return.

"Lord Dontar sent us a letter, inviting Lord Fraser to discuss a joint operation to retake his quarry in the coming weeks and maybe trades if common grounds could be found." he smile thinly, good words are a rare commodity in our Hall and it is better to look at the gifted horse mouth thoroughly before accepting it. Melwyn and Rodrik groans at the news and your father cannot suppress the sigh escaping his lips.

"He'll most likely ask us to bear the brunt of the effort and reward us in stones, he must know that we aim to repair the town proper and the port." He shake his head, bringing a hand to cup his jaw muttering something under his breath.

With the bandits cleared for now both Houses should able to secure his quarry from the groups holding it – you think looking at the map – what is his angle, what would he demand in trade for his stones, what do you have that he need.

"Can we afford to be picky?" You hear Melwyn says, "Right now, can we truly go at it alone my Lord?"

"You're right, we cannot. Did he propose a time for us to meet?" Your father ask, earning a shake of his head from his bastard brother.
"The letter doesn't, but somewhere in the coming weeks would be the perfect time I would think."

"That settle it, then. Hoster, you will go along with Jeor and Rodrik and to discuss with Dontar Lothston this joint operation and trade negotiations in two weeks, this will allow us to see the end of the month and handle our finances and troops." he says firmly, ending the council.

Is it better to have elite units or just overrun enemies with a mass of green units? Seems to me that a greater number of men that is bolstered by a few elite units can steamroll pretty much anything...

Allrighty then, good news: the logging camp is back into your control and you'll have the House Fortune for it by the end of the month, placing you at -1.

The lumber mill got damaged a bit and will need >>430623 month to be on back in full swing, untill then you will only be able to have logs.

>>429123
Was for finding groups of armed men waiting to make a mess out of the nice things you've earned. Suffice to say Rodrik found many of the criminal scums and they'll be part of the forced labor group working day in and day out to bring your House back on it's feet, did he find them all? ~who knows.

Very good news, with the camp back in your fold and the most pressing bandits trouble out of the way, and since you've done all that in one month. You guys earned a glory point like Brynden did when he won the Archery contest.

What this do is if you use it, you gain a glory event: that's +1d6 in Defense, Influence, Law and Power each.

Your men mowed the bandits down this whole month, but there was a underlying plot where the groups messing with the other Lords were using your lands as a staging ground and fall back position when things became too hot in those far away lands, now they don't have this luxury and they are feeling the pressure, which makes life easier for everyone but Ulmer Fyrik.

The guy spent ~30 power in getting criminals and raiders and you killed most of it, either directly or indirectly. He still have his official standing army, but they are of lower quality and experience to yours.

Finding the link between Fyrik and the bandits would have created a shitstorm, even more so if you had pooled your findings along those of the other Lords, but as of now this is dead so I don't have to worry about spoiling it. You could find the threads linking them still, but it'll be much harder as the key players are out of your reach.
>>
>>430655
Well, dang. At least we threw a wrench in the works for Fyrik.

Are the gains from a Glory event permanent or temporary? If they're permanent, i kinda want to use it to buff our position now.
>>
>>430662
They are, I'm fluffing it as finding hoards of weapons/stones and stuff after your men attacked the bandit camps hiding in your forest.

Words reached the town/villages surrounding your lands and you've gotten a surge in men wishing to enter in service of House Fraser.

I'll use the Influence roll later to make you more impressive with Lothston, maybe even have the other Lord who's land had been harrased send a letter inviting you as well, for trade and help.

Mind you, you're still an Ironborn House and as you are basking in the sun today, tomorrow may turn to be bleak.
>>
>>430670
Well, shit, let's enjoy the weather while it's good. Wait on contact from other houses and see what we can get from the Glory Event.

The House will be strong, it will just take time.
>>
I'm about to start again, I have less material than I'd like but I think I could work with enough write-ins.

I'll do the dices rolling with the next update, or after most likely.
>>
Three days later the logging camp is back in your control and nearly in pristine condition with only a bit of repair needed to the lumber mill, in one month your House will be able to produce lumbers that will greatly help in the rebuilding of your infrastructure.

Rodrik reported discovering several bandit groups lying in wait around the area, and in a daring strike managed to destroy of capture several of them, the few survivors escaped once again to Brynsalt's lands and over the border to Lord Lothston. Some going as far as Lord Chandyl before he stopped the hunt.

Several caches of weapons, gold and even stones have been discovered in the attack or by bandits wishing to confess their crimes in hope of a lighter sentence. Once news of your newest success reached your neighboring lands, you saw a steady stream of men willing to enter your service.

That's a huge investment, no? Can we attack him in return? Or is our liegelord against such obvious attacks?
>Finding the link between Fyrik and the bandits would have created a shitstorm
Well, we blame the axe... it moved on its own, really... the family madness struck again...
>>
>>430997
You cannot add the glory point straight up to the House Fortune stat, you have to roll for each resources the glory point allow you to modify.

The House Fortune roll will come later.
>>
Rolled 4, 4, 3, 1 = 12 (4d6)

>>431025
More everything! Defense, Influence, Law and Power! We probably need Law most, as our lands are quite unsafe, yes?
>>
>>431006
>That's a huge investment, no?
That was Hoster 1st major conflict, he got the big exp boost for clearing the 1st quest. Now Bandits farming will be the same as rats farming, very low to no exp reward.

>Can we attack him in return?
Well, yes you could. But character wise this would place you as attacking without reasons, he'd be in his right to call up his sworn House to his help and his liegelord would not be called on it for fucking you up. Remember, you have no proof Fyrik did anything wrong.

>Or is our liegelord against such obvious attacks?
Your own liegelord is sitting in Harlaw, the last time he had news from you, it was to be called a shit.
>>
>>431042
>>That's a huge investment, no?
Well shit, I messed up I guess. Anyway yes, this is a lot of power, he did it overtime and not all at once. The guy has been doing that for a year and some months
>>
>>431042
>Bandits farming
Can we send green troops to farm bandits to gain experience? (As we still have very low Law)
>you as attacking without reasons
Ah, then we better not do that! We're peaceful... till we find a way to bury our axe in their skulls in a righteous and heroic manner :).
>year and some months
Feels good to have crashed his investment so quickly then!
>>
>>431042
I guess, the only thing we can do is wait for House Fyrik to try something again. In the meantime, we can rebuild, gain an alliance with our neighbour (with the bandit problem), raise more troops, bribe a Maester to come to us (are there rogue Maesters?)
>to be called a shit
Well, father was ill... maybe we can mend that relationship when father is dead and we take over, probably not sooner...
>>
>>431063
>Can we send green troops to farm bandits to gain experience? (As we still have very low Law)
Maybe, right now you hardly have huge bandit groups roaming your lands, I doubt sending 100 men is a wise use move but I may be wrong.
>>
>>431080
(are there rogue Maesters?)
Yes, you don't want any of those lol. You could use the time with Lord Lothston to ask if you could use his Maester to send a formal demand.
>>
>>431103
>send a formal demand
If we have the money, then I would greatly appreciate having a Maester.
Though, maybe we want our father to die first to give us the Lordship, muahaha?
>>
>>431094
>hardly have huge bandit groups
Ah, the rest are hard to find, I understand.

Is there a pastebin or an overview about how many troops we have?
>>
>>431111
This may not be the worst thing, if the lordship gets passed to us soon, we would have that much more control over our destiny. I want to get the maester after the next Fortune roll and spend our Glory Event as well.
>>
Besides J9yRCgMD, is there anyone else with an opinion to the glory point?

I'll be in and out of a thread for a while and if I don't see much, I'll update using his roll, that poor 1 in power.

No, matter what, Hoster would have a small experience scene if people wanted to spend exp and House Fortune would happen next.

>>
Rolled 1, 5, 4, 2 = 12 (4d6)

Pop the Glory Point. Use J9yRCgMD roll for this, roll the rest over to resources if thats cool.

More rolls if we need them too!
>>
>>431146
>Can we buy attributes with 5exp though?
No, but I have granted 30 exp last thread but I kind of railroaded the guys into taking Stewardship to the detriment of Warfare.

I'd be willing to erase that slate and have you guys decide if you want to be railroaded or chose from your own opinions.
Also the 5 exp per thread would count the previous two so you'd have 15 more points.

What can I say, I'm a huge faggot and this is my third thread, I'm entilted to fucking up.

>>431139

Guess now you guy gonna want this one? Maybe once I refresh my page a 3rd roll will appear with only 6s.
>>

I'm fine with the stewardship skill, Not sure what to spend the extra 15 on though.

We can use my rolls, i don't care either way, take J9yRCgMD's opinion too on this.

Don't worry about fucking up too much, you're admitting it and trying to fix it, that's better than a lot of QM's i've dealt with in the past.

I think we can wait on axe fighting, we already roll 6 dice for it. I may be wrong, but if we have logic, we could see connectioons between groups of bandits like we missed and tie them back to their controller.

That's why i figure for logic and memory, we may turn out to be one of the smarter Lords of the Realm after a while. Hopefully it works in our favor.
>>
Later we can always put points into the Warfare Tree, and since builder doesn't quite think they work quite right in this context, we can always work on refluffing them a bit to work more with this system. Maybe more of a "Meta-roll" like a couple that play into the overall bearing of our troops somehow.

If it was decided and i missed it, ignore my bullshit. I just thought it became too many rolls and wasted action spirals that needed some work.

Just gonna say that waterdancer and longblades specialties are dogshit and not worth it.

The blunt and axes are excellent use of points, since wounds are penetrating and bleeding type things are amazing.

Valyrian is +1 damage for 50XP when you can spend it on Blood of Heroes and actually be amazing.

Waterdancer is actually dogshit and you can get more out of simple bonus dice or converting the destiny points into straaight xp to skill boosting for better gain.

Oh boy, I just found out that I missed something very important.

The House Fortunes bonus from the Food Agriculture Holding your House have doesn't work in winter, you should have rolled with a -2 penalty.

Meaning all your rolls now must take a step back on the table and you are left with a Decline/Decline/Decline. Removing 1 from your resources.

It seems I messed up my math somewhere and you guy should have 23 Population instead of 21.

Which is funny because you guys have an Holding that prevent lose of population by 1 point in case of war. I'd be willing to handwave the decline as the result of Olyvar's attack on the settlement, but just as he killed enough of your dudes to reduce the thing by one a small baby boom happened making up magicaly for the lose of life.

Anyways, you still have to decide what to do with your wealth, 8 if you remember. Do you want to keep it for a better roll next month or do you want to spend a few now?

With the amount we have now, don't think it'll be worth spending on anything.

okay then, keep it close for next month, hopefully the House Fortunes will shine on you..Though I'm wondering how.

I'll say a law roll then

I don't think we were off track, it's good to have a lively discussion about the position of the house.
>>
>>432373
>>432383
Hell, that would be +2 Wealth for 10 and +3 Law for 20, not bad for what we had before.
>>
If I may offer advice.
Right now you need two, at most three things.

Law, as I said that it pull your roll to the ground. Right now it gives you a -5, with 21+ it will be a-2.

Lands, you'll need it before long to open the market, the port, the shipyard and the drydocks. All of those are locked behind the Small town, which is blocked behind a 10 land+ a repair roll.
Once the town is up you'll need wealth to buy and repair each holdings.

Wealth is the last thing you need, as you'll alway need money, with money you can buy power, land, law population influence and defense
>>
>>432388
Nice gains admititly.
>>
>>432391
Ok, i think we only need 1 more point in Law for now, then Lands especially. I just want to hit that Law minimum.

Next fortune gain should go there if we're lucky. Wealth as well.

It was a long and arduous process but the 1st House Fortunes is finaly done.
I'm guessing you're wondering why you have 12 instead of 11 wealth, this is thanks to one of your Holdings giving you a +1 on any wealth dice you decide place in the resource.

Next month with the lumber mill coming on-line this +1 will turn into a +1d3, meaning if you get another boon you'll roll a dice in wealth for 1d3 or 1d6 AND add another 1d3 to your result.
>>
>>432440
Oh? Well, hell yeah! Looks like always sinking one into wealth and maybe one into lands/other then,
>>
>>432440
I just realized, you could send two wealth to bring your law to 21 giving you the reduced malus to House Fortunes already for next month.
>>
>>432448
Oh, i must have missed that table earlier. I'm quite fine with spending 2 Wealth for the bonus to law and losing 3 points of malus. Sounds like one hell of a plus to me.

>>432451
bringing the law to 21 would turn the 3d6-1+1d3 into a3d6+2+1d3, it would open more beneficial results.

A week pass and you, Jeor and Rodrik along with a token force arrive in Lonestone, the town of the Lord Dontar Lothston. It is a peculiar House with a peculiar history, the Lothston of Orkwood are a cadet branch of the now defunct main branch, they were thralls, having been captured by reavers while they fled after the betrayal of Daemon Blackfyre by Manfred Lothston. Thralldom turned to vassalage in the wake of one of the following Blackfyre Rebellion. The 'newly made' Lord Lothston marrying into House Orkwood, they now bear the colors of Orkwood quartered to the ancestral Lothston.

Riding through Lonestone, you are taken aback by the bustling energy you feel around you, this last month the smallfolk has started to look toward the future with renewed vigor but this is something of a much grandeur magnitude, it grieves you to admit that even before misfortune befell your House, your own market wasn't as animated.

A rude shoving from Jeor wrench you from your darkening thoughts, at his prompting you look upon a building where women, scantily clad, entice the passerby with winks, smiles and come-ons. As one they find the hulking figure of your uncle and with a voice betraying such slender bodies yell out his name much to his amusement and yours and Rodrik's consternation.

"May I remind you that we are on official duty for the House, Jeor?" Rodrik gripes while the captain blow kisses and winks to his... lady friends.

"Of course, it goes without saying that the matters of the House are paramount before the matters of the flesh," He replies with a smile, "It doesn't mean that we cannot play once Hoster and Lord Dontar are locked in their room trying to fuck one another over the preparation of this joint operation or the trade agreement. Maybe present you to the girls instead of having you wait boringly, wouldn't you like that, Rodrik?" He finish with a leer that threaten to split his face when the Archers captain turns beet red and stammer an outrage.

It isn't long before the good natured banter dies down when you reach the walls of the Hall House Lothston erected with the very stones you are about to have men die for, both yours and theirs.

Wasting time? Far from it, i was having fun thinking and planning. Gave me something to do today, after all. Pleasant diversion from usual stresses.
>>
A man of standard build, slightly older than Rodrik but younger than your father awaits in the court, his hideously yellow and white doublet providing the clue of his stature.

Before you stand Dontar Lothston, an angular face, fairer in his proportion than the classical Ironborn's proof of his greenlander ancestry, bright blue eyes shining either in calculation or in unease, perhaps both and hair shinning like polished copper kept a mite longer than a fighter should wear tells you this is more a man used to ruling from his castle than taking the field.

>How do you wish to greet the man. Depending of your disposition you might have an easier or harder time getting the upper hand in the negotiation.

>Pleasantly. This is after all an invitation to discuss, not an obligation to aid his House, his trouble with the entrenched bandits.
>Stiffly. Bandits killing is serious business, and you love your business.

Backish, you guys have seriously no gripe with the story or how I played the scenes? Nothing you could point and say "this shit right there, it's bad because reason, this is how it should be made/said/explained"?
>>
>>432726
D-do you want us to, builder? Cause i like the way you're running it so far. Not everything needs to be flowery or crazily descriptive. Hell, you freely admit the mistakes you make and that earns points of forgiveness for little grammatical errors and bullshit, at least from me.

You know you're making mistakes and trying to correct them, you seem to have a good idea of what you think you're doing wrong otherwise. If this is actually your first quest, you're doing pretty well. Hell, even if it's your second, i've seen far lower quality.
>>
>>432726

Not really, especially not compared to other things that I see on the board. You're balancing out the more "civ" like aspects of this system with actual scenes and player effort well. A couple of events seem sort of sudden but that is part and parcel with the fact that dice rolls have an effect on the story so obviously a sudden shift in luck will seem sudden in the story too. Keep on it and I look forward to playing more
>>
oh, okay then. I'll try to make slight adjustment in how fast some of the events unravels.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, I'll have to make sure not to fuck it up by doing something dumb.
>>
>>432810

As long as you don't pull a Velo it's all good
>>
>>432726
Well I think the quest is turning to much into a civ thread.I would like some more rpg elements and scenes descriptions,But otherwise it is pretty good as it is
>>
>>433049
Check out the actual RPG books if you haven't. The game itself is half civ thread. So are some of the best (in my book) GoT quests, all about the MC and the family's Holdings being improved and dealing with the events and invasions and all that. I find them a bit more engaging for whatever reason. I really enjoy how this feels like clawing our way up from having damn near nothing and making a name for ourselves in Westeros, or even just the Iron Islands.

That's just this Anon's two cents though, but i've been having fun planning and thinking about growing our holdings.
>>
>>432726
>no gripe with the story or how I played the scenes
Reading up on the quest, I would prefer less number crunching. I don't really care that much if we have 2 or 3 points here instead of there, I care more about the story... but I can totally understand that this civ aspect has a certain kind of attraction.

I like the interactions with charactes like Jeor and that Gerrion fellow and would want to see more of that. Repeated appearances can only help immersion (not having characters appear once and then never again).
>>
Will return in about 1h with the starts of the council.
>>
"Greetings, Lord Dontar." you say, climbing down from your horse. "Thank you for inviting us, I am Hoster Fraser. I'll be representing the interest of Lord Brendan Fraser, and his House, in this meeting." you finish, trying to sound pleasant and welcoming.

He stares you in the eyes for a moment longer than necessary, you stares back unblinking, letting him get the measure of your person at his leisure. With a sigh and a shake of his head he finally speak in a tired voice.

"My apologies, my Lord. My nights have been made shorter than I would like," He wave his hand and a servant brings the salt and bread of the guest right. "I am Dontar Lothson and I welcome you under my roof, may this meeting brings good fortune and friendship between our Houses."

A slice of fresh bread and a pinch of salt. With this simple gesture, both offering and taking, the guest and the host swear not to harm each other for the duration of one's stay under the other's roof. A cup of wine is provided after the formality and at Lord Lothston's order we are ushered into the Hall after he shakes your hand. Walking with Dontar, who is walking with a limp you notice, he talks of minor concern, such as the length of this winter and wondering how much longer it will last. He also explain that his wife recently gave birth to his second daughter and as such his sleep has been lacking in quality. Congratulating the man for the new addition into his family, something that makes him walk straighter and with much more vigor you file quickly, you also engage in small talk, or trying at least. The few trappers plying their trades in your land reported traces of this giant boar, it seems the beast have been roaming your borders for a while.

"I don't think this beast is too worried about the delimitation of our respective lands, if anything it acts like those damned bandits, or perhaps the bandits acts like it." Dontar says in a mirthless tone. "I'd rather have this giant beast as the only trouble on my land than them, at least the beast would be kind enough not to occupy my quarry." He finish darkly.

Sitting in a chair, with Jeor and Rodrik by your side you stare ahead of you and look upon Dontar's council. His maester, an old sandy Dornishman with skin so brown it hints of Summer Islanders ancestry, named Casper. A smile crossed Lord Dontar and his face at the mention of the name, as if a joke only them are aware.
The complicity between them reminding you of the one you and your father shared with Osmund. You vow to yourself to ask Dontar for permission to send a raven, with luck the Citadel will send you a skilled maester in a timely manner.

As much as his maester is a friendly enough fellow, the captain of Dontar's personal guard is very much the painting the Seven kingdoms makes of an Ironborn: harsh, unyielding, unfriendly with a permanent scowl carved on his face, a far cry from Jeor, the man barely sparred you a glance and kept glaring at the imposing figure of Jeor, a good two foot taller than the man.
Medgar Melwyn is a man with a chip on his shoulder and an ugly scar on his face, which makes his scowling even more disgusting. Jeor, looking unaffected to anyone unaccustomed to the man is in fact poised to attack his equal, something you and Rodrik are only too aware and worried it might happen should this tension between the men escalate.

The captain of the Lord Lothston navy is the perfect blend of Casper's friendliness and Medgar's animosity. Boros Lothston, the younger brother of the head of the House is a man with a easy smile, much to easy you note, the same features of his brother's marred by a crooked nose.
The cold calculating look in his eyes as he realize the tension between the two captains makes you worry for the future should he involve into their feud.

The final, and most out of place, member of this meeting is a man; a boy really, only a few years your senior. Denys Stone is the son of the recently deceased captain of Dontar's infantry, having earned his position by virtue of saving his Lord life by organizing the retreat after the unit led by his father, got cut down. Something about this makes you wonder where Medgar was.

"Let's cut to the chase, I invited your Father because I cannot smoke out the bandits from my quarry." Dontar's begin before looking you in the eyes for a moment, a faraway look lasting a second before realization sets in, "I was told you were Knighted, is it true?" he ask suddenly, a bright light in his eyes. By Lord Garrette Brachen you admit, earning a snort of amusement from Boros and Casper and a grin from Rodrik and Jeor.

Garette Brachen, The Warden of Tumblestone Coast, the Scourge of the Ironborn and most trusted commander of Tywin Lannister. Many tales are being told about House Brachen, the closest thing the fearless reavers of the Iron Islands would call a boogeyman, "If you're not a good little boy, House Brachen will come and makes you dig their gold and silver." The fact that they are one of the few House in the Westerlands with no goldmine isn't important. They are almost as fierce as the Ironborn on the sea, it's only on land that they suffer, from treason by neighboring Houses no less. To have the very man sworn to be our death knight an Ironborn must have chaffed the man to the breaking point.

You only remember grinning like an idiot while the man scowled at you, the more he scowled, the more you grinned. You were quite the little shit back then. – You say, causing everyone but Denys and Medgar to laugh. One looking at you in awe the other nearly spitting on the ground.

"I am glad to have such a knight helping, us then. Ser Fraser." Replies Dontar, "My family still remember it's knightly root, even though the iron soil is not favorable to the growing of such tree." He finish in a wistful manner.
"Perhaps my Lord, the soil would take more easily to its own variety of trees instead of importing one not fit for the rigors of life here." You say, taking a moment to look the man in the eyes before offering him a grin, "It seems your House rooted deep enough in less than a century." This earns you a smile from Dontar and Casper, Boros smiles as well but the smile doesn't reach his eye. Denys nods his head clearly overwhelmed by the talk and Medgar is trying to scowl even harder.

>Being pleasant with him changed his disposition toward you from Indifferent to Amiable.
>>
"Anyways, we were set up a bit away from the quarry, there's a cliff this map doesn't show and the forest hid the men from afar" He makes a turning motion toward the location of the quarry. "The archers did most of the damages cutting down the greater portion of my force in their first volley, the pass was narrow..." He gets this faraway look in his eyes again, reliving the scene again, "Your father was right, Denys, we shouldn't have come this way." He finish in a whisper.

Casper clearing his throat brings back the Lord out of his memory, "They tried to take my Lord's force into a pincer attack but Denys quick thinking managed to keep the pincer from fully closing in long enough for the personal guard to spirit away the Lord Dontar. The Garrison paid a bloody price in ensuring his safety, a number of his guard lost their life too." He finish with a hard glare, "They all paid the Iron Price as you are so fond to say, they paid it and gave back changes."

Rodrik is the first to talk for your House, "Forgive me for asking, my Lord, but don't you have archers or scouts of your own? I fear this could have been avoided if you had a sent a van to get the measure of the land." He ask looking from the maester to the captain of the navy.

He's afraid, seeing his men die so easily shook him to his core. You realize, he doesn't have enough men and he his afraid.

"We lost our scouts to mutiny a few months before, we we're in the process of rebuilding the force when this happened. As they were not ready we paid trappers to do the scouting for us." Boros speaks, clearly unashamed of explaining the failing of his House.

Rodrik narrow is eyes at the explanation, "Trappers you say? Could they be accomplice of the bandits? Whoever hired them didn't research the characters of those men." He hints subtly at the incompetence, baiting a reaction.

"Watch your tone, Codd." Medgar growl out, the man proving that indeed, he can scowl harder. "These trappers said they came from your Lord's lands. What does that tell you?" he snarls a question.

"It tells that one would have to be careful to trust these men, as our lands where rife with scums crossing all over the lands. "Peace Jeor, we're playing our enemies game by going at each other's throat." You try to pacify the situation from your side, looking at Dontar and Casper for help on their side." We are here to help each other, to build trust, not to lay blame at one's feet." Rodrik isn't wrong, whoever hired them was clearly not in the frame of mind when he did so, almost as if..

"Ser Fraser is right, we're dancing to their tunes every time our tempers flare out." Casper starts, looking at Dontar who nod tightly.

"Reign in your temper Medgar, reserve your anger for the true culprits." He answers harshly. This somehow calms the Captain faster than a peaceful resolution.

A few tense second pass, before Rodrik serves you and Jeor a drink before getting up and serving first Lord Dontar, then his brother and the maester. He deliberately pass Medgar and serve the young Denys and finally fill the scowling captain's cup. He stands a moment before the man and studies the man's ugly scars, made even more prominent with the blood flushing his face in wroth.

"These men what do you remember about them, anything striking about them?" he ask calmly, you see the captain growing aggravated once again before he stops. A look of sudden realization in his eyes.

"Greyscale, one of the bastard had greyscale!" He mutters, before looking into Rodrik's eyes who grimace and nod his head.
"Did he run with 3 other men? One would have a certain gait from a busted knee, yes?" At the affirmation he turns toward Lord Dontar and nod, "These men would be poachers, only they are not of our lands, but that of Lord Brynsalt. My men arrested them a couples of time but could never get the drop of them when they sold the furs."

>1/2 Hoster shouldn't be this cool on his 1st official job.
>>
Dontar look in shock at the name of Lord Brynsalt, "You don't say the old fool is in league with these bastards?" His maester is shaking slightly an haunted look in his eyes, clearly they have a less than pleasant past with House Brynsalt.

"I wouldn't say, my Lord." Rodrik shake his head, "The poachers have no love for the Lord they steal from nor from the Lord they come from." he explain calmly, refilling a second time the cups of both the maester and Lord. A quick glance at Boros allow you to see the mask of indifference is nearly dropped. "Perhaps they only saw a means to make a quick coin while weakening the patrols your men did." He finish taking his seat.

The Dornish maester, mull over his wine for a minute, before asking "Do you think they worked for the bandits?" Color and voice slowly returning. Rodrik shaking his head in the negative.

"We would need to question them, thoroughly. Before that we must locate them, it has been a while since we reported their presence, either they went back to their home or they are poaching another's lord land." He sigh before continuing, "I am sure they'll crawl out of their holes soon and make their way here." He finish vaguely letting the explanation hang.

"Why do you say that?" Ask Boros, clearly intrigued by Rodrik's claim. The thin smile the archer gives the younger brother is one you rarely see on the man face, the smile of someone about to pull a joke on someone else.

"Because, my Lord. There's something here that makes men away from their homes craves if only for a while what they left home, or don't have." He finish grinning broadly, much to the consternation of Medgar who just realized what he meant.

Jeor's laugh is confirmation of your hunch, – You met them at the brothel, you dog! – No wonder he didn't bother checking their backgrounds.

The mood soon return to a more serious tone and Rodrik turns to you with a proposal, whispering in your ear.
"I could, with yours and Lord Dontar's permission review the progress of his archers or scouts, maybe even offer my service for a while in order to make them a more impressive force? Of course my expertise would require payment...either by coins or favor my Lord?"

Nodding you head in thanks to his proposal you turn back into the council, waiting for Lord Dontar to say something, anything.

"Ser Fraser, perhaps it would be in our mutual interest to have your men following the trail left by those poachers." You school your features and provide an olive branch to make up for the fuck up of his man. – only his men, would be able to make the arrest as those are foreign lands after all. They would learn by pairing two of your men with two of his for easier communication.

Nodding in gratitude at your attempt to make him save face, Lord Dontar discuss something with his maester who nod in agreement with whatever his Lord proposed.

"The matter of the poachers and whether or not they worked with the bandits are one thing but not what I invited you here for." He starts before losing is momentum. Unable to find motion, he stammers, one side of his face strangely displaying a blank look while the other look on getting more and more frustrated.

Yes, you will help him – you finish for him, – House Fraser, will stand with House Lothston in her time of need – earning a look of raw relief from his maester and strangely from Medgar too. Giving a nod to Jeor he take the stage and start planning with the different captains the timeframe for this operation.

Sitting back into your chair, you catch Dontar's eyes, you see pride and relief in these eyes, the calculation is still there but it has taken a step back. You might have just made yourself a friend.

>You are now on friendly terms with Lord Dontar.

>>
With the war council ended you are invited to dine with the Lord and his family, you are introduced to his wife Lady Desmera of Tyrosh, a sophisticated woman with olive skin and dark expressive eyes that lit with something akin to hunger when she set her gaze on you, the shape of her delicate face along to exotic skin tone proved too much for you and Jeor to focus on anything else, much to Rodrik's lament and Dontar's amusement.

"Maybe you should sail down to Tyrosh and get yourself one of those beauty," He joked, but you could see the slight unease in his manner as he watching the hulking form of Jeor following his wife with his regard.
Beside making a fool of yourself, diner has been a agreeable affair, thanks to the endless questioning of Dontar's first daughter, the young Janna, who for some reason made her mission to embarrass Jeor and Rodrik as much as her ten years old mind could conjure.

Trying to strike a conversation with the Lady Desmera, Jeor quickly found out that she had a very basic grasp of the common tongue used in Westeros and would rely on her husband or Casper to make her thoughts understood.

You almost chocked on your wine when Jeor asked if she had any sisters waiting to be married, your father will enjoy putting his younger brother through the wringer with this comment.

>2/3
>>
Before long, Jeor begged leave to sleep elsewhere in order not to further incense Medgar, leaving your protection to his second, taking Rodrik with him, for his protection he said.

You find yourself sitting in a much comfortable chair near a hearth with a cup of Dornish wine from Casper's personal reserve, the maester having retired moment after leaving you with Dontar to talk trade.

"I'll be honest with you, Hoster. I aim to grow my city further, maybe even make her into a bigger port than those of Lord Orkwood or Brynsalt," he spats the last name. "I have the connections and the infrastructures, what I don't have is the means to improve those infrastructures." He finish and wait patiently for you to take over.

For that – you wager – He will be in need of wood, wood our House would provide him at a price much lower than the current rate. Is that right? – You ask him.

"Quite, let's not lure each others, both our Houses are hurting at this time, yours financially and mine military." He explain, you know all that, he wants you to fight for him and in exchange he'll finance your rebuilding, at his pace.

"You are more observant than a young man of your age should." He respond with a genuine smile. "Allying yourself with me would also allow your House to regain its former status, not all mind you but maybe enough to not be reminded as a mummer's farce in the relevant circles."

Ah, there it was. For all its self-entitlement House Lothston is still, in the eyes of many, a minor House born out of Thralldom not much better than the Codds. While your name fell from grace due to the quirk of Lords past. The Shark was still remembered as a mighty force for its relative small size, by allying himself with House Fraser he'd ride the past glory of your ancestors while making his own.

>roll me a 4d6 Will test not to flip your shit completely. This is a rather hard DC but you've got enough good boy point to not turn it into a mess.

As for plans, i figure we can do some sort of military aid pact, since Lothston's are weak. Also our timber and lumber for some of their stone and possibly labor to help rebuild our small town/ marketplace/ port/ drydocks.

A long term alliance between the families is a very good thing, especially if in the future it gives us grounds to merge boundaries for "the greater good" and make the resources ours without much fuss. Maybe marry in to their line and sire children with them, though the daughter is too young for that.

If we can acquire theirs and Brynsalt's land, we'll be the biggest power on our island. We just need to get the claims on them somehow.

Otherwise, leverage what resources and aid we can in good faith and give fair aid in return.

>>
Rolled 4, 1, 3, 5 = 13 (4d6)

A military and trade pact is a fine place to start actually and maybe down the generations a bit that alliance could become one solidified by marriage as well. Not ours but if we manouvered it in such a way as to set to inherit then that's an easy way to lay claim to the lands. That's a very long term plan though, as it stands now we should review the records and see if there is anything we might have a claim to there
>>
Maybe I should ask now, before I start writtings, are you guys thinking into entering the alliance with the terms he's proposing?
>>
>>435327
Yup, seems good.
>>
>>435327
Seems a fair deal so far, can always look for exploitable bits later.
>>
>>435327

Not exactly, say we're amenable to it but we will need to look at the actual agreement first

That's when we can start to make the actual finances
>>
Your first though is to flip the table and yell uncontrollably, but you reign in your temper, your second though is to punch is face in, but you reign in your temper again. No, what you need to do is keep your cool, it has helped you so far, no need for things to become complicated.

You explain that your Lord Father ultimately has the final say in what the House should do, he'll take your advice in consideration but the response from his 'alliance' proposal will come from him.

"I guess that is fine enough for me, should we talk of the trade agreement then?" He ask with a contended smile. "I propose a trade of 1 unit of stones for two of your wood per months, for a duration of five years."
>just think of one unit of whatever count as 1 wealth.

>What do you say, what do you do?
>Haggle the price down? to what amount?
>This is fine.

if you do want to haggle the price down you will have to roll a 3d6+3 and as you have no bargain dice I'll remove one point of bonus to your total.

4:5 stone: wood
We're providing the troops for the endeavor until he gets his forces rebuild as well as taking the fight to the Brynsalt's if it comes to that. Still a deal in his favor, just less "us over a fucking barrel" and more of an even deal, especially since his is the weaker house by the looks of it, older one or not.

Offer a couple concessions, but try not to get a raw deal, especially since dude is our temporary buddy. Gotta have a show of good faith from him too.

Well, he's in a better situation than we are.... till he has our troops all over his place to "keep the peace" :).

btw do we have scouts? If not, then what is keeping us from running into an ambush same as he?

Would've been true Ironborn fashion, but we're smart, we await the perfect moment... too bad, it's all showing on our face (low Deception).
>>
I might have poorly worded the whole thing and failed to explain the whole nature of Dontar proposal, I'll try once again to explain.

>he wants you to fight for him and in exchange he'll finance your rebuilding, at his pace.

This alliance he proposed as of now would turn House Fraser into House Lothston's bitch.
Yes, you'll be his bitch. As in "oh, you want stones to build that tower? Well, how about bend over some more and I try to fit my arm up your colon." You as players are saying "Sounds good, I guess. Sure, let's do that."

What's more, since he'd be in the driving seat he'd be the one who will regulate the growth of your House, because you'll need stone to rebuild your market/port/dock/shipyard and town.(YOU NEED TO GAIN LANDS BEFORE DOING ANY OF THAT)

You could spend wealth to build yourself a quarry and circumvent his cockblocking but you would still be left as his bitch thanks to the wording of the contract. A quarry takes 2d6+9 months to build so you would be tied to his for at least 11 months.

Have you read House Malroy Quest? Remember how Arryn fucked Brynden all over that table when they where in Dorne? Yes, that's you once you enter his alliance. Which is funny, the guy really likes Hoster, but it won't stop him from dicking Hoster and his House.

I'll try to make the thing work by explaining that as your inexperience in such matters are why Hoster is seemingly okay with such a deal. Once Rodrik, Jeor, Melwyn and your father read the letter Dontar's gave you, they'll call you a fucking shit. Hopefully your father won't be too far into his bout of the JUST and won't sign the paper, or maybe he will.

I'll make it clear:
>you can help him retake the quarry without becoming his bitch.
>you can trade with him without becoming his bitch.
>you can refuse to trade with him and only help retake the quarry without becoming his bitch.
>you can trade and help him retake the quarry without becoming his bitch.

But once you become his bitch...

I will admit that I fucked up somewhere in explaining, but I feel that explaining everything takes away the charm of the thing. All Lords are dicks, doubly so with the Ironborn.

>>435569
Proposed to trade at a 4:5 rate; I haven't found the output of the holdings so I'll handwave it as the wealth cost of the thing+upgrades if possible.
Meaning that your Timber camp producing 5 units of logs would only work for his his House alone, leaving you with nothing to work on your own stuff and nothing to trade if another House approached you.
At the end of this month your lumber mill will come online and you'll produce 5 units of lumber instead of wood, which are a more interesting trade item than the unprocessed logs thus making a much better trade. Let's say it double the value of your wood. You'd be trading him 4:10 wood by being his bitch.

This is just trading for resources directly. What if you sold wood for wealth, 1 unit of log would net you 1 wealth, but 1 unit of lumber would be 2 wealth.

I used various builds of generic woman and the shotacon mom won the cake, I'm not saying she'll quit her husband or anything but seeing Hoster lit a fire in her belly.

>This is roughly how I see Hoster, face a bit thinner and less bulky as he's still growing.

Most of the Fraser men are big guys, for you. Jeor's 7'2 and build like Shaq, Brendan's 7' but being sick has made him starting growing a paunch.

You have archers but they can work the scout job, albeit worse than a real unit of scout. Rodrik is a good huntsman and is great at tracking.

counter offer of 4 stones for 5 woods.

This is a somewhat rather important point concerning the resources found in the Iron Islands, stuff that you should know if you read about the fluff. And how I was thinking of running the quest.

"...Son. Just pray that I live long, very long..."
>>
>>436777
Oh, yeah, i'd rather not be their bitch. I must have misunderstood a bit somewhere. I just don't want a totally raw deal when it's all said and done, I was going for a better ratio in our favor, better than 1 stone for 2 wood, (it was more of a long view close trade kind of thing rather than expending all our timber on Lothston, more like 4 good blocks of stone for 5 big trees or whatever is what i meant by my wording.)
>>
>>437793
I think this is where I messed up. On the mainland gold is king but here you'll need wood more than anything else as it's wood that allow you to build the ships that allow you to raids or whatever.
Gold is good but for a people that live by the sea wood, rare as it is, should be the stuff they all want and will pay the big money to have.

In this light, him willing to trade at 1:2 rate become even more laughable, wouldn't you say.

As I said the guy is arrogant, and sometimes it makes him do stupid things.

Maybe I should have made a scene explaining the worth of the ressource before setting off. Hinsight is 20/20 I guess.
>>
>>438039
>On the mainland gold is king but here you'll need wood more than anything
Yeah, didn't realize that...

>>436986
btw could we take over Lord Dontar's land by killing him and his men (ambush during joint operation), then marrying Lady Desmera and taking their child as ward?

Lady Desmera would give us some letters (under duress) to make it legal...

Our neighbours can't really hate us more than they currently do.
>>
>>439812
>killing him and his men
Boros would stand to inherit before Dontar's daughters.
Killing Boros would not be easy as you'd have to board his ship. I cannot say much more than that I'm afraid.
>>
I don't suppose anyone is still waiting in this thread?
I'll finish the scene and the thread in about one hour, got caught up in family problems and barely had time to do anything else.
>>
You know of the value of your wood, how rare it is and how much people are willing to pay for it. For him to undervalue your good so much is telling of his arrogance. Must be his greenlander origin, you wonder, wood is plentiful and readily available on the mainland. Barely of notice to some, even.

"The rate you are proposing, my Lord, are simply laughable." you say, keeping your voice even. this is not the salt your House traded away at a loss just to keep afloat you point out, this would be the gold of the Iron Islands."A 3 to 1 in House Fraser's favor would be the standard rate if you were to sell it and not exchanging resources." You lie, raising the value by a fair amount.
"A rate House Goodbrother and Brynsalt would be unwilling to reduce," You point out before continuing. – One you'd be willing to reduce to a mere 2,5 to 1, You finish with a smile, "From a friend to another."

You can see the burn slowly marring his face, the outraged response forcing its way out before he can make a conscious effort to temper it. The threat clear enough, you'll make his House pay through the nose for your goods if a satisfactory agreement isn't found.

"This ridiculous, we both know that this price is inflated!" He begins, not quite shouting; not as much as his initial offer you think. "I'll not be insulted in my own home by an House with less standing than mine." He growls out, sweat forming on his brow.

Giving a growl of your own you bark out that perhaps he should remember who needs the help of who in a certain bandit problem. You only came here at his request of assistance. His request, you emphasis, that you agreed to readily, wanting nothing in return but to give aid to a neighboring Lord.
As for matters of trade, you sneer, did he thought he was the only House interested in your wood. He was the first one who approached you and the first one you visited thanks to his position, but you could also open discussions with the Lords Tawney or Chandyl just as easily.

In an exasperated voice you thank him for his hospitality and promise him that House Fraser will be by his side come the time to retake the quarry but if trade is a question of standing then you'd rather have House Brynsalt being the one to shit upon you.
>>
A shiver begins to shake Dontar's frame and you can see his eyes take on a vacant look for a second before he look upon you with an uncertain gaze.

"I'm sorry, what were we talking about again?" He asks, genuinely confused. A certain warmth that was strangely missing from his voice mere moments ago.
– Of trade, more precisely of wood for stones – you respond, a slight concern in your voice. – Should you call for his maester? – you demand.

"It's nothing," He assure you, with a shake of his head. "Yes, trade. I'm in need of a good amount of wood at a fair price if I am to develop my port." He takes a moment to think of a figure before continuing with an offer which you counter with your own.
In the end you both settle on a 2,25:1 trade, and with the added benefit of Rodrik getting paid for his expertise and depending of the time needed to raise his scout up to standard.

In the morning, you order Rodrik to evaluate Dontar's scouts, and a few hours after the midday lunch you agreed to wait for at least four weeks in order to have a force worthy of the name. Denys Stone prove to be a competent enough captain and when push comes to shove, a solid fighter. A shame that he is useless in the council meeting, scared to even look into the eyes of the men present.

You took a moment to find the House maester after lunch to send an request to the Citadel for a new maester, Casper explaining that a fee of 2000 dragons is required to be paid up front. After an agitated argument, you relent and pay the dornishman who is grinning from ear to ear, who start writing the letter and in a moment let you inspect it before you press your House's Seal into the contract.
He explain that upon reception of the letter the Citadel will send you the man most suited to serve your House, you ask him if the circumstance of the death of your previous maester would infer negatively in the selection process. He shake his head no, citing that such events are explained early on in the training of the apprentice, in your particular case Osmund death trying to save your father's life is telling of a great amount of respect between the two.

If anything, he gives a wry grin at that, the fact that an Ironborn House is asking and paying for a maester and not raiding a ship sending one to his assigned House would throw the council in Oldtown into quite a frenzyn with luck you will be blessed with one before the end of the year.

>Roll me a 1d6 to see how long it'll take for your new maester to arrive.
>>
Rolled 3 (1d6)

>for your overall success in your dealing with Lord Dontar, who see you as someone worthy of his trust you earned a status rank, you are now rank 2.

The evening brought news of a Drowned Man, one of the wandering priest of the Drowned God seeking shelter in Dontar's Hall for the night. Beron Blacktyde of House Blacktyde is a man short of stature and with features weathered by the sea. A fondness for sweets made him Janna's best friend and his greatest supporter. His smile and good nature a far cry from the usually harsh and dour Ironborn.

A follower of the Drowned God, Beron didn't begrudge Dontar's refusal to bless his newly born daughter and his wish to raise her in the light of the Seven. He hinted that building a place of worship for those wishing to practice their faith would surely help the smallfolk and those ruling them bear the strain of Winter easier thanks for the divine providence of their respective gods. He finished by looking straight into your eyes and in a whisper declared.

"It could also pave the way to recovery from any unnatural ailments someone should suffer from a lack of devotion."

Departing the morning after before the first light of the day, Beron promised to visit your land on his return to Lonestone, perhaps then talk of a more esoteric nature could be made and plans for a temple to the Drowned God could be set, he quipped before setting for Lord Chandyl's land, a driftwood staff his only mean of defense against any bandit foul enough to attack an Holy Men.

"While the Drowned God forbid Ironborns to shed the blood of one another, Him sitting in his watery halls hold no love for those conspirating against their neighbors and would bless any man fighting against such wretched individuals." He says in a harsh tone to both Dontar and you, before giving a wry smile and in an amused tone warning you both, "Remember that He is a major cunt and any blessing He may offer could be taken away as the tide rise and fall."

It isn't long before you take your leave of Dontar's hall, promising to give him response to his propositions once your Lord Father review the offers. The ride back home is spent in silence and after being questioned by your Father and Melwyn you are left to decide what to do for the rest of the month.

I'd like to apologize for the two days I've disappeared, my brother got run over by a car and I had to take care of all the bullshit that came with that. Bastard got lucky and only had a few broken bones here and there and some scrapes.

I'd like to thank everyone who posted in the thread. without you I would have quit the shit long ago.

I'd like to have your opinions of what I'm still doing wrong, stuff like "there's not enough choices, make them so and so" and explain me what you'd like to see. Or maybe how should I make the scenes longer, shorter or anything in between.

I'm ashamed to say, but I somehow fucked up the House Fortunes, again. I swear that shit is driving me up the wall and I'm still uncertain if I got it right this time. Fairly sure that I'll fuck it up again next time.

I'm still playing with the idea of Brendan okaying the alliance proposition, but I'm not sure how I'd write the story if I went with this choice.
>>
>>446668
Well, family shit is more important than /qst/, no matter how much we would like to think otherwise. At least your Bro is OK. Could be worse than fucking House Fortunes again, shit, that you're willing to admit mistakes that honestly makes up for stupid little nitpicky things i could say.

I would like it if the odd scene was a little longer, but thats about all. And if Brendan ok's the alliance, he ok's it, maybe just works something into the agreement in their favor as well, like a mutual give-and-take between established houses working towards a mutual goal.

We'll work out all the mechanical kinks eventually, this has been a good game so far.
>>
>>446668
RL is more important, no question, hope your brother heals well and the driver responsible doesn't do that again...

I enjoy reading this quest! The interactions between Hoster and other people is interesting. It's nice that House Fraser has an alliance going now.
>>
>>446570
btw when we attack our neighbour with a great push, can we levy our peasants to fight for us too? They might only be green fighters but they could easily hold prisoners, occupy towers etc.

You could yes. Though too much levies would reduce your +1 House Fortunes modifier if you keep them for too long. You might as well upgrade them to a garrison or something better if you want them to man a tower.
