Your name is Tsuki Norihime- and your world is falling apart.

The roars of what was once Gaara cause the arena to shake- the screams of the crowds below only add to this chorus of destruction.

Itachi-sensei left you several minutes ago, presumably leaving to attempt to help save the village. Thankfully, Danzo and Father are both here, along with Father’s six men from the capital. All of the men besides Danzo are armed with launchers, though Father’s looks rather different than any model you’ve seen previously.

“We need to get you back to the manor. Tsuki as well. I will join the defense afterwards.” Danzo says, producing a map of Konoha from his robes.

“Unfortunately,” the older shinobi continues, his brow furrowing, “we’re in the center of town. The manor is behind the monument- which is near the Hokage’s offices and his residence. I suspect that area will be under heavy assault.

“We have no choice.” Father says, joining Danzo to look at the map. “The manor is the most defensible place in the village- that we know about, anyway. There isn’t really anywhere else to go and remain safe.”

It seems they mean to fight their way back to the manor, with Father, yourself and the staff holing up inside. Not a bad plan- but you are a shinobi- you won’t stand idly by as your home is destroyed!

….Is what you want to say. Currently, you sit in Father’s chair, recovering. Having just taken a soldier pill, you’re already much better off than you were- but this is your second one today, and it’s going to take some time before you’re ready to fight again.

Father eyes the elder shinobi before speaking up himself.

“Sweetheart, you’re exhausted. Leave the defense of the village to the elder shinobi- believe in them. If they had to defeat an enemy and defend you, it would make it that much harder on them.”

The nine of you quickly make your way downstairs- father’s men taking the front while Danzo takes the rear.

As you run, you hear the beast inside the arena rampage- before a thundering crashing noise, accompanied by the sound rending steel, echos through the building, causing it to shudder violently. Earth-shaking footsteps boom in the distance…

“It seems to be making it’s way into the city- let’s go, before this building becomes any more unstable.” Danzo says, his concern reinforced by the building’s continually strained sighs.

The lobby is filled with nothing but rubble as you enter- even the scream from before have been silenced. Did those people escape…. or did they fall victim to the tailed beast? Your stomach churns- but in response you quickly shake your head. Can’t think like that- there’s no time to get emotional.

When you step outside, however, you’re nearly overwhelmed. The city is engulfed by roaring flames, with many buildings damaged or collapsed entirely, likely as a result of the explosions you heard earlier. Shadows dance across the surviving rooftops, likely shinobi en route somewhere- but whose side might they be on?

Your stomach churns again. This is a disaster…

“Tch. Seems the most direct path through the market district might be cut off with rubble.” Yoru complains, looking at the map. “We’re not going to have a lot of time- we’ll need to select an alternate route.”

“There are a few options left to us, then.” Danzo explains.

“We could take a roundabout route west, through the hospital, which would lead us by the academy. It would take longer, but may have less enemy combatants.”

“Alternatively, we head straight north for the Hokage’s residence. It’s much quicker, but there will likely be some heavy fighting going on.”

“Finally, we could head east, towards the where the Aburame and Sarutobi family’s residences are. It’s another roundabout route, and there’s no way to know what is going on over there, either. We shouldn’t head south- that seems to be the direction the Tailed Beast was headed, and it’s the wrong way to get towards the manor.” Danzo explains.

“Let’s go through the hospital- Hinata, Nori and the others may need our help.” you conclude.

“No objections from me.” Father responds. “It’s a little out of the way, but is probably the least dangerous.”

Probably. You can’t help but wonder what the true goal behind this attack is- and if these predictions have any merit…

“Alright, let’s go. Everyone, on alert- there’s no telling where danger might come from.” Danzo instructs.

Something seems different about him- but it’s hard to say what it is.

Regardless, your party proceeds towards the hospital- your first landmark.

After a few minutes, you notice a few things. First, there’s some strange guy in the sky, flying around on what looks like a giant bird. He’s so high up, though, that nobody seems to be able to reach him- but he also hasn’t come down. Is he just… watching?

You’ve seen several ANBU agents and other Konoha shinobi, but they all seem to be heading in the opposite direction, and Danzo never hails to them- so you continue on, still in the dark about what exactly is happening.

After stopping you group to check the area, Danzo ushers you across an intersection. As you cross, you see a corpse- a Giant Snake, not unlike the ones in the forest of death.

The knot in your stomach twists further, but at least the thing is dead- this one, anyway.

“Wait. Something is wrong.” Danzo commands.

Your group was making it’s way through a side street- the main road was blocked by a fall building.

You quickly scan the arena- but only see corpses.

“I don’t see anything-” You start.

“And neither do I. That’s the problem.” Danzo explains.

Suddenly, the corpses begin to clatter and shake, before rising- showing lifeless, hollow faces.

Puppets.

“Defensive positions. We need to find the puppetmaster- or destroy the puppets. I’ll try to follow the chakra strings… but it may take a moment.” Danzo orders.

The puppets, clad in rags, rattle violent in response. Many of them have exposed blades on their arms- though, at the same time, why couldn’t you tell they were puppets before? They seemed so very.. Human.

It's literally nothing more than a matter of dumping energy into the target.

Kinetic in the form of swords, electrical in the form of lightning, heat in the form of stellar, doesn't matter what kind.
All you need to do is dump as much energy into the enemy as possible in order to disrupt the functions of their body.

If they're tough or have armour, you just need to concentrate that energy down into a smaller area, making it more effective at doing so.
The more steps between [Fuckton of Energy] and [Opponent's Body], the less effective you are at fighting.
Everything else, like shadow clones, genjutsu and other such ninja trickery are nothing more than a means to make sure the energy connects with their body.

Regardless of how much energy we have to spend, a target requires X amount of energy over a specific area to penetrate or otherwise destroy their flesh.
When you add extra steps between your energy reaching your target, you lower the efficiency.

Trying to finely control chakra strings at a distance decreases the amount of energy it's feasible to use, because you can't control large amounts of energy to the same degree.
And even then you're still transforming that chakra into kinetic energy through the puppet, when you could have just attacked with your own body or a thrown weapon to begin with, instead of going chakra>kinetic, it's just a direct transfer of kinetic energy.
Transforming one form of energy into another is lossy, meaning you're wasting extra energy by doing so.

If you can't dump enough energy into the target at once to damage or kill them because you're limited by what your weapon is capable of, you're fucked.
So far we've only managed to survive as long as we have because we've been capable of dumping massive portions of our chakra into colossal attacks capable of harming otherwise indestructible enemies.

Nori's chakra cloak would have been unbreakable if we were trying to punch it with a puppet.
Gaara's sand would have just swallowed our puppet whole.

The puppets rush at your group, attempting to overwhelm you!

In response, Father’s men begin to unload on them- though the kunai don’t seem to have much of an effect against the unliving puppets.

There are at least fifteen of them- almost double your number-

But, there should only be one puppetmaster, maybe two, given the amount here. So, where are they…?

One of the puppets swings wildly towards you with it’s arm blade- but you quickly parry with your own blades, and counter, taking the offending arm right off.

It’s head turns to face with a jerky movement- before a small explosion erupts from it’s chest, shattering it!

A smoking weapon is mere inches from your head- it’s wielder, your Father, has a wide smile on his face.

“Explosive ammunition- Glad to see it works!” He laughs.

Several of the other puppets have been pinned down- either by several kunai from the launchers, or what looks to be wire tied between senbon ammunition. Seems your father’s weapons weren’t so ineffective after all?

“The puppetmaster isn’t here.” Danzo announces, utilizing Fire Dragon Bullet to blow another puppet to smithereens.

“Wait, there’s only one?” you ask, ducking between another puppet’s attack, then rolling away as the explosive tag you placed detonates.

“The chakra source is the same, and the strings all go to one location.” Danzo explains.
Within a few more moments, the battle has ended, smoking puppet remains littering the street.

“Either way, we should keep going. The longer we stay here, the higher the risk we have of drawing attention to ourselves.” Danzo says.

I agree, although really, if you were trying to hide yourselves, should you have been using such loud weaponry?” a smooth voice coos from ahead.

Why not seal attacks instead of explosions?

We could use scrolls to fight.
During our off time, we build up stellar attacks, great dragonfire, fireballs and so-forth, seal them in tags as if they were weapons, then attack with them using a scroll like tenten does.

Your hair stands on end, and both Father and Danzo’s reactions are immediate.

A lone figure stands at the far end of the street, walking towards you.

“Really, though- when Sasori told me someone was engaging his puppets, I couldn’t have dreamed it would be this eclectic bunch.” Orochimaru purrs, his head cocked to one side.


“The snake shows himself.” Danzo grunts, taking a fighting stance.

“Ahh, Danzo-sensei. To think even you would regard me in such a negative way? You never objected to my methods before~” Orochimaru says smugly.

Orochimaru’s eyes flick over to you. You begin to bristle- you want this man dead. If only you had the strength….!

There’s an audible CLACK as Yoru reloads his launcher. Pointing it directly at Orochimaru, Yoru takes a step forward.

“You already took my wife from me. You aren’t taking my daughter as well.”

“Oh my, such hostility, even from the great Yoru Norihime… have my old compatriots truly abandoned me? I’m hurt.” Orochimaru says smugly.

“Our little project has shown such PROMISE… I had given up on it through, but now…”

He smiles, and takes a step forward.

There’s an explosion behind him- Father’s weapon, probably.

“She’s not yours to take. I’ll die before I let you touch her- Asa would never forgive me.”

Orochimaru’s smile widens, and becomes positively predatory.

“Your trinkets don’t scare me, Yoru. Tools are only as useful as the one that uses them- and she is wasted in yours.

You could also make a lot of money selling those sealed attacks to non-shinobi.
Imagine the power of a ninja in the palm of your hand.

People would eat that up, using them for personal defense, and of course for less-noble means.
You could probably sell a lot of them to caravans and tax collectors that would otherwise have to hire out a shinobi for the whole time they're working, even though they aren't always needed.

Not only would this reduce the cost of personal protection, it would free up time for shinobi that would otherwise constantly be on long, boring and generally needless escort missions.

If we had a small selection of sealed standard attacks that we could pull out as needed, we could save our personal chakra for on-the-fly attacks and specialized stuff that can't really be sealed.

Yeah, that's basically the Kote. That means we probably can't seal ninjutsu, but we can still make superscience weapons.
We're back to acquiring a method of either rapidly regenerating chakra, storing it, or both. The flower does both, we can feed it blood to fuel it up, and then drain chakra out on demand. Like a living, bloodthirsty Yin seal.

Tried future ninja quest.
It was funny at times, but the main character felt woefuly inconsistent, as well as quite boring, which got so grating that I ended up dropping it

“Regardless, you are welcome to try- though I warn you, with such outdated methods, you would be less than a stepping stone before me. I have mastered what you couldn’t even dream of achieving with such a crude method. Behold~

Father’s men take this opportunity to fire upon her with their launchers- only for her to disintegrate into countless pieces of paper, and reform beside Orochimaru.

Her eyes, however, bore into the men, rather than the snake.

“You are outmatched. Flee, before you face His wrath.” She glowers.

The men don’t flee- but they also don’t fire.

Orochimaru seems incredibly irritated by this woman’s presence- but he doesn’t put up a fight.

“Let us be done with this, then. These morsels aren’t the main course I desire, anyway.” Orochimaru growls.

The snake takes her hand, and with a powerful beat of her wings, the woman soars northward- towards the Hokage’s offices.


Part of you wants to chase after them- but you simply don’t have the strength. Besides, you need to make it to the hospital.

Still, you find it hard to stop shaking.

Danzo’s metal hand finds it’s way to your shoulder.

“There will still be time to settle the score. Come, the hospital awaits.”
