Last time you organized exodus from your village to bluestream, you and Ibto went out to find the rescue party, you found diverging tracks and decided to follow those of the army.

You followed them to your now empty villages, and are currently gathering information.

Ibto moves further back into the forest to emerge closer to the prisoners, and you focus on what you assume to be the shaman.

The dance is wild and slightly disconcerting, the man seems to distort his body in ways it isn't meant to be. AS you watch out for discarded tiems, you note that small parts of feather fall to the ground from time to time.

More interestingly however, it seems that the shaman is periodically throwing small white pebbles into the fire, which times appear to be of most interest to all present.

You are watching intently, as you are startled by Ibto creeping up to you.

He's examined the area the slaves are held, and concluded that it would be almost impossible to free the lot without a fight. He confirms that two of them are from your villages, and had been part of the missing hunting party.

One prisoner, a man he does not know, is lying knocked out a little ways away, guarded by only one of the foreigners. Ibto says he might be able to grab him and get away - but he'd need you to provide a distraction for him.
>>

>Go a bit further into forest and produce the most scary, startling and creepy animalistic screech we're able. This should serve as a good distraction since the invaders don't know what might live in these forests.

alright, I feel like this depends on your con.

So roll that, you have a +40, they have a +20 on their smarts, and they get a +30 because the plan is... unconventional.

Is there even sense in rolling now?

You go further into the forest and let out a hearty screech. Then you sit waiting at an agreed upon location to wait for Ibto.

And you wait.

I'd like you to roll me your smart (+40)

The foreigner stands over you menacingly for a moment too long, and you take advantage of his hesitation. you jump into him, pushing his spear out of his hand with one hand and grabbing it close to the tip with the other, turning it around on him.

You look upon the corpse with sadness. This man was a warrior, a hunter of man perhaps, but a hunter nonetheless, and as such a holy provider of the community. He deserves the proper rites to pass into the spirit world, or into the afterlife that awaits the people of his land.

His body painted with blood, you laid him out as a bird ascending to the skies, chanting as quietly as you can to give him safe passage, as another noise startles you - Ibto, panting, and bleeding from a nasty wound in his arm, stumbles into the clearing.

He opens his mouth, but seeing the holy ceremony, backs off and lets you finish.

holy shit you guys are lucky

You apply the herbs meant to prevent the evil spirits that often enter through such wounds, while Ibto explains how he got it.

He had weaited for the scream to happen, and had then sneaked out of the other side of the forest to rescue the unconscious prisoner. But instead of directing his attention to where the scream had come from, the guard had only grown more vigilant, and communications had happened between him and the others.

When Ibto saw that a well organized troop had been sent into the forest to the source of the scream, he had made a decision: He had left the prisoner be, and instead followed the group sent into the forest, in your direction, and, once they were deeper in the forest, drawn attention to himself, and lead them onto a wild goose chase away from you. He managed to shake them, but was hit by a thrown spear.

The man you were interrupted in burying must have been the only one of those who stayed the course.
>>
>>1593547
Very well. Throw some wood ashes on the dark man to perserve his bodies' purity. Ibto should go back to our people and tell them of all that has happened.

What we shall do, is go into the belly of the beast. And have a shaman off...

you finish up the rites with wood ashes, as there is no time to bury the body proper. With a plea to the spirits, this warrior's journey is now facilitated.

But what to do now? You have seen the army, you have not succeeded in freeing any of the prisoners, and they must be aware of your presence by now, at least of Ibto's.

You know that the village is on its way westward, and that the survivors of the rescue mission are moving in a similar direction.

Ibto's arm has ceased to bleed and he is able to move it freely again.
>>
>>1597379
let's head back with ibto and tell our village to be on the defensive just in case there's a retaliatory attack. making another attempt at rescuing the prisoners tonight would be suicide, especially when the enemy is so alert
>>
>>1597385
oh yeah, and when we're back, let's focus on making some kind of poison concoction to tip a weapon with. kinda like how vietnamese soldiers used punji sticks smothered in their feces
>>
>>1597379
At least we know that the rescue mission wasn't captured. Let's get back to our tribe and wait until the rescue mission survivors catch up.

you know the way the village is going, so you wont have to roll for tracking. While they are moving by far slower than you, they have a two day head start, so it will take you at least the night and day to get to them.

If you want to do anything during your stay in the forest, and the rests you will inevitably have to make, tell me. If you want to jump right to meeting them, that's also a possibility.
>>
>>1597438
All I wanted to do was get the black people's shaman's hair to put a curse on him later, but now it doesn't seem very feasible.
>>
>>1597438
collect some herbs, maybe look for herbs that don't exist in our village. let's make use of our smarts so we can poison our weapon. alternatively, we could coat our guy in some "bad luck herbs" so rival warriors are afraid to touch him

on the evening of the day you find in the shadow of some bushes what you're looking for. Blackleaf and Sharphead, two of the forbidden herbs.

You take them with you, taking care to collect them out of Ibto's sight, who might object to you taking the forbidden plants with you. There will be enough time for discussion later, and as the shaman, you are the final arbiter of what plants are and are not permissible.
>>
>>1597491
sounds good. if anyone sees them and happens to ask, we ought to just remind them that the plants are accessible to us and us only.

It takes you a day and a night, but you meet back up with the tribe late on the morning of the second day.

"We have to meet up with the rescue group as soon as possible then." the chieftan's daughter says, after you've explained what you've found out to the small group, consisting of her and all able bodied men still with the tribe.

"I fear that Bluestream might become a prison rather than a sanctuary if there are no men to protect us."
