>L: “Now then, you’re probably wondering why you’re here.”
>Your attention shifts to the small fairy, who’s hovering ever closer to you, her magic slowly expanding in her hands.
>L: “You’ve always wondered what’s inside my mind? Well, you’re going to get a very close look. You aren’t going to get as much control over the personality as you’re used too,”

Hello! So glad to be able to talk to you again. I was pretty sure this vessel died after the whole Luci incident.
>>
You, burst out onto the balcony and into the sunlight. You have a mission. Your father, King Ouibliette the Kind, has just informed you that your stalwart companion and dog, William, is attempting to flee from court life and has made a flight from the castle! You know that can’t be true. You know that he’s lost. It’s up to you to find him!

You brush your frazzled black hair from your face and set your dress properly before looking out over the balcony to view your domain, past the garden and opulent road that makes up the path to your castle. The lake shimmers to the east, distant boats cross it’s length to even more distant fishing villages. It was easy to lose yourself along the shoreline and keep walking. The woods lie to the west. Their dark thickets and cool air made them seem impenetrable and full of danger to those who weren’t as brave as yourself. It also occurs to you that William could still be within the castle walls. The labyrinth of hallways and courts could even confuse you at times.

Easy to get lost in there, surely. And if it's in the castle, that's a pretty shitty place to try and flee and then get directly lost in. William's gotta be smarter than that right?

The forest, of course! It's your favorite place within your domain. You and William would spend hours in the shade of those trees. You, William, and good old Velvet Ear. He should be meeting up with you shortly.

"Luna! Luna! Where are you dear?"

Oh no. It's your dad. He can't find you, if he did, he'd make you give up this search, or at best tag along for the whole thing. You had more fun when there wasn't someone hovering over you, telling you to "be careful!" or "Don't climb that!" or "Luna! That was a priceless artifact from our nation's history!". Thankfully, you know this castle like the back of your hand. You should. It's your domain afterall!

After ducking and dodging through the throngs of servants rushing to set up for the party tonight. It was important that it be perfect, if not to them, then to the king and queen. The party wasn't that important to you, even if it was your birthday.

You manage to leave from your side exit of the castle. It was a window where you could make the jump to a tree and shimmy down to the ground.

"...Heir to the Throne of Bones! Septarian! Of the Lacertilia Clan!" Huh. Seems like a guest arrived. You see him shortly afterwards from the bushes as you sneak your way through the courtyard. He was a scaley lizard man, grey with a skeletal motif stitched into his fine clothes. Your mother, Queen Prismara, was hanging off his arm, giggling at something he said. It sure was nice for her to have a good friend like that.

You finally exit the castle grounds and walk down the quickly roughening path to the forest. You can already smell the greenery. That's when he arrives.

"Back again, little princess? There's something different about you. Oh! You're there too! Hello."

You never liked this newest "friend" of yours. He wasn't fun like Mr. Velvet Ear was. This one was weird with his blue skin, grey beard, long nose and forehead gem. He wouldn't even give you his name and rejected every name you gave him.

"Go away! I need to find William, not sit around and talk about riddles with you!"
"Perhaps I know where William is? If I did, would you then want to talk?"
"No!"

You run off ahead, but he manages to continue to float behind you effortlessly, the tiny thing he is. This continues for some time, both of you rushing towards the forest, but then you see Mr. Velvet Ear. He had been captured by the Blue Leaf Gobbo Clan, and they had him strung up in the trees. "Luna! H-help!" Velvet Ear calls to you.

"You gotta go away now! I need to help my friend!" you say, looking towards the floating blue creature. He looks a little past the Gobbos and looks back to you, a bit of boredom on his face. He didn't seem to understand the gravity of the situation.

"If you say so. I'll wait back here for you," he said, pulling out corn from somewhere.

You charge forward ready to

>Slay these creatures with your halberd. Today you are Knight Webwillow, in full plate and ready to cleave.
>Burn them all with fire from your hands. You are a deadly sorceress, and none can stand against your magical might
>Riddle them with bolts until they resemble pin cushions. The two fairies you pay to load your handcrossbows for you will make sure you don't run out of ammo.

If you don't mind.
Take a little time to explain what roll system you are using.
>>
>>2137607
That's probably for the best.

This quest uses a system similar to the one in Star Vs Quest. Players roll a die (usually a d20) to determine how well the main character completes an action, and the QM rolls an array of d10s to determine which die is selected based on post number. For example, I rolled 3d10 in the update post, and an additional 10d10 in an auxiliary post. The first rolling post to end with one of the arrayed numbers is the the roll chosen. What order the array is in means nothing. All that matters is the ending post number.

Currently, >>2137560 is the chosen roll, which is a 3 and pretty abysmal. Thankfully this current encounter is all imaginary and you can't fail. I was just seeing how bad you eat their faces.
>>
>>2137632
But there was a 4 post?
>>2137584
>>
>>2137632
Wait, no. If the order of the array doesn't matter, then it should be the first 5, which is >>2137555.

Okay, from here on out, I'll just roll 5d10 in the update post and use those numbers. First to get any of those will be chosen.

You were never one for noble combat, and these creatures don't deserve it.

You explode into a mass of flesh and leap into the gobbo horde. Everything you are becomes a blade of bone, or a mass of crushing muscle. You lash out, decapitating several gobbos with your bladed hand. Their blood splatters against the trees and the wild ivy below. One gobbo attempts to strike you from behind, but your foot raises up and engulfs his head. A sickening snap can be heard before you throw him into a throng of his oncoming compatriots, knocking them all to the ground. You pounce on them, dozens of small bladed fingers running through their group and several inches into the ground. The last few lose heart and begin run away, swearing revenge. You don’t chase them down.

They’re not worth the effort.

You stare them down, hard. You will them to die. They slow and slow until they take but a few more labored steps. Their heads pop with small gouts of steam as the intense pressure shatters their skulls.

Dull thuds can be heard from deeper in the forest. Footsteps. “Wots dis den? ‘ave you been killin’ me welps, mewmie?”

The largest gobbo you’ve ever seen stands before you. His sparse armor is enough to equip half a dozen knights. You’re fairly certain you see a mewmun breastplate being used as his pauldron.

The warchief strides forward, shaking the ground with his approach. This isn’t right. He’s too big, and that can be used to your advantage. You pull at the strings of magic, pink lines forming in the air around you both.
“Make his bones break and bend, for gravity is not your friend.”
He has reached you, and he stares down at you with his beady eyes and a crooked smile. Your power coalesces. The air warps around you as you exert your will over reality, your focus on the spell and finding the words needed to rhyme.
“Das a noice poem.”
“Like a ruined, broken tower, he will no longer hold power.”
The spell is ready to burst. With but a few more words he’ll be nothing but a pile of meat and metal.
“Tell it ta me some ovva toim.”
“To save my friend and set him free, this is my decr-“
His boot crashes into your chest, shattering your magic and sending you flying into the trees above and impaling you onto a few broken branches. You fall to the ground bloodied and with your legs at odd angles. Being a mass of flesh, you can thankfully get them in working order quickly. You stand, and he walks forward, massive cleaver in hand.
“Awrioght. Dis ain’t fun anymore.” He tests the weight of his weapon in his hand and brings it up, ready to cleave you in two. “’ope you taste good, mewmie.”

“Make his bones break and bend, for gravity is not his friend.”
The gobbo pauses when he hears you speak. His face quickly twists into rage when he hears what you are saying.

“Like a ruined, broken tower, he will no longer hold power.”
“Oi said ‘Anovva toim’!”
He brings his cleaver down.
“To save my friend,”
The blade flashes in what sun filters through the leaves.
“and set him free,”

The blade tears into you, sundering your shoulder and arm from your body. The pain is terrible and the gobbo smiles. But it’s not enough to stop you. Not nearly enough.

“This is my decree!”

You release the spell, and the gobbo’s smile fades as a slick layer of pink forms over him. He lets his cleaver go and it embeds itself into the ground beside you, slowly sinking in as though it were quicksand. He falls to his knees with a thud and a crunch as his thighbones fracture under his weight. His face hits the ground and with several consecutive breaks his entire body flattens unnaturally against the forest floor. He continues to move slightly. Not from life, but from his body settling under the immense pressure. Tendrils of flesh reach out and pull your arm back onto your body as you survey your handiwork.

“Mistress, please release me from this trap.”

Oh right. Velvet Ear. It’s a simple matter getting him down with your powers and congratulations are handed out between you two before the blue pixie floats over to you from his generous pile of de-corned cobs.

“Now that you’re done playing around, perhaps now we can talk? I can help you find William, and it’s getting late. Your servants will come looking for you.” He says, bringing your attention to the low afternoon sun.

You huff and look up at him, pushing your hair out of your face and crossing your arms over your now grass stained dress.

No, no this isn't right. You aren't properly dressed for matters such as this.

"Velvet Ear! The cape!"

You look up at the fairy with a smug grin as Velvet Ear affixes the cape onto your shoulders. The rich and regal pink interlaced with near invisible spider web markings and gold trimming was perfect for showing your superiority over this small blue creature.

"Okay, kid, I get it. You don't trust me, and I've done nothing but feed you riddles for the past few days. I promise I'll help you find William if you'll trust me to."
"You'll take me to where I want to go?"
"I never said that. Just that I'd help you find William."

The sun continues on it's path, and it's clear that you must make your decision soon if you wish to find William before someone tries to find you.

“Fine. Just remember who’s the princess here. And no more riddles!” You say in your best commanding voice while Velvet Ear stands behind you.

He reclines back into the air with a smile of satisfaction spreads across his face. “Of course, princess. I could never forget. As for promises, I’ll keep at least one,” he says as he begins to float backwards, deeper into the forest. “You just need to figure out which ones!”

He quickly gains speed and you find yourself having to run after him to keep up with his pace as he weaves between trees and you clamber over stumps. The woods grow darker and your familiarity of them lessens as the darkness warps them in your vision. You clutch at your cape and bring it over your lighter day dress, hoping just the thought of it would keep you warmer. It was during the twilight of the day when he finally stops, hovering over a small clearing in the forest before. William was nowhere to be found.

“Well? Where is he? Where’s William- where’s my dog?” you ask, anger quickly replacing the confusion in your voice.
“He’s right,” he lowers himself onto a small mound of recently disturbed dirt. “Here.”
“Wh-what?” Is all you manage to stammer out before the realization hits you. “No. No, no, no, no, no! He’s not dead, he’s- he’s lost! Or, or maybe he ran away like my dad said but he’s not dead! My dad wouldn’t lie to me like that!”
“Maybe you should dig and discover what’s in there?” He says, floating up and over to the side of the mound.

You scoop with your hands, getting as much dirt out as possible and permanently ruining your dress. You don’t care. All you care about is your William. Your heart drops when you feel the fur. You exhume him best you can. You see the small stab wound in his side. This wasn’t an accident. This was murder.

“Luna! Luna! Where are you? You’re going to be late for your own party!”

Your father. King Ouibliette the liar.

“It seems you trust those you shouldn’t, and don’t trust those you should.” The blue creature whispers, floating up and fading away into the canopy.

“Oh. And my name is Glossaryck.”

Dusk is quickly giving way to night as you sit within your woods, the sun nearly choked out completely by the thick canopy. It was still enough to see the dirty, lifeless form of William in your arms. You clutch him close and feel his fur, his fur that seemed so full of life the day before but now feels like a hollow shell and a pale imitation. A puppet modeled after a long-gone friend.

Velvet Ear puts his hand on your shoulder as a small light appears a ways off in the woods.

“Mistress, your father approaches.” He says softly, his rabbit mask obscuring his features but not the sadness in his voice.

You hold William closer to you as you feel warm tears run down your and hear them hit the soft, recently disturbed soil below you. You don’t want to let him go. He was one of your best friends, and the only one others could see. Velvet Ear and the rest were a blessing, but no one else could see them or appreciate them. Not like you could.

“Luna! Luna! Blast it, we need to return to the castle soon!” Your father approaches. You can almost hear him crunching through the forest.

No. No! You can’t let him find you; not now, not like this and not with William in your arms. You look at the approaching light and then turn away, picking a random direction away from your father and moving as fast as you can while holding on to William.

“Luna? Luna is that you?” He calls out as he quickens his pace towards William’s grave. “Luna, I swear if that’s you and you’re not-“ He stops suddenly as you assume he’s entered the clearing where he says something too low for you to hear. You can hear the rapid thumps and crunch of his boots behind you as he gives chase to whatever dug up William, moving much faster than before. He’s stopped yelling after you.

What little light is left is fading quickly and your knowledge of these deep woods is limited at best.

You run fast. Too fast. As you make your way through the dark you hear your father’s footsteps become more and more muffled until they turn to nothing but dull thuds that feel both miles away and just behind you at the same time. The forest around you blurs as you speed through it, your own heartbeat thundering in your ears as you concentrate completely on getting away from the man chasing you through these dark woods.

You don’t even see the root that trips you.

You tumble forward into the dark and down into a small depression, William’s body cushioning your first impact with a few soft snaps before you lose your grip and he goes flying from your grasp. You land at the bottom of the miniature valley when your father crests the top, the light from his lantern shining down onto you and revealing the slightly twisted form of William a few feet away from you. The thunder of your heart leaves your ears.

“Luna? Luna come here.” He says, descending towards you carefully to keep from losing his footing. You instinctively scramble away from this man, this liar, who had been chasing you through the forest. Dirt continually gets scattered onto your dress, further ruining it. A far cry from the fine summer clothing it was but a few hours ago.

He is upon you, his hand outstretched and reaching for you. You cover your face with your arms and defensively and prepare yourself.

He picks you up and gives you a deep hug, nearly enveloping you in his large form, his large black beard tickling your face. “Luna,” He says, a wide smile on his face. “Thank Their Divinity that you’re alright. We’ve been searching out here for hours! I’ve had to call upon my own Black Circlet Knights to search for you within this forest!” He sets you back down onto the ground with his hands on your shoulders.

This isn’t right? He was about to hurt you? Wasn’t he? He is a liar afterall.

He looks over towards William and grimaces before looking back to you. “Lulu, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry for lying to you, but it had to be done. There are dark and political forces at work here during your birthday, and they had slain your friend. I needed to keep it a secret, so I lied to all about his fate, including you. And for that, I am truly sorry. I truly want what’s best for you Lulu. Please, come back to the castle with me and get ready for your party. You only turn ten once, and I’d like a little happiness to come from this dark day.”

He removes one hand from your shoulder and holds it out to you for you to take. You notice he keeps the other where it is firmly.

Your hand, still covered in dirt and a few strands of dog fur, reaches out towards his. A wide, beaming smile fills his face as you take his hand, though that drops quickly as you turn your head towards the limp remains of your friend. He quickly removes the hand from your shoulder, turns and begins to lead you away. “We’ll bury him in the morning, when the need for this farce is over. Come, Luna. We don’t want to miss the party. Again, I’m sorry this had to happen.”

As you two walk out of the forest, he pulls a horn from his belt, letting loose three short but loud bellows which is answered by similar calls from elsewhere within the forest. It seems he’s recalling his knights. His decorative armor shines brilliantly under the light from the moons and his lantern, outlining him in both gold and silver.

The trek back through the woods and to the castle was surprisingly quick. Guests from several kingdoms, states, and empires were in attendance and caught full view of you in your torn, dirt covered, grass stained dress. You don’t care, you have other things to worry about. Bigger things. but your father silences their mutterings with a glare all the same. He has a reputation for being a fierce king, and a formidable enemy.

“Right. Here you are Luna. Bethany will be here in but a moment to help you clean up and get ready for your party.” Ouibliette says letting you loose within your quarters
“Please, father, not Bethany the wretch! I can already smell her jowls.” You say, your distaste for the woman overriding your mistrust for a moment.
“Do not call her that, Luna. Bethany has served this family well for years. You must treat your servants with respect and dignity, lest they turn on you.” He says while he turns to leave.

You hear him lock the door from the outside. You are now alone in your room.

Perhaps some clothes, some pocket money, our books on spell craft...
>>

We are grown (enough), we don't need to be dressed by some hussy. Also, grab some stuff for the escape later.

Seems solid to me, support!

If you cannot simply dismiss the woman, you will show her that she is unnecessary. You strip and gather up a change of clothes from your dresser before walking into your personal washroom with your head held high. Fortunately, there you find a tub of already heated water. It seems Bethany anticipated you to arrive back home dirty and worse for wear. The old maid was finally learning. You ponder what that may mean for you as you scrape dirt off yourself.

You finish rather quickly and dress yourself into your birthday dress, a poofy, flowing thing that was in rich Mewmun Scarlet. Much too elaborate for your taste, but a standard for the court, or so you’ve been told.

You then exceptionally quickly take some time to gather a few provisions to help you during your eventual escape. There was a small alcove behind one of your dressers that had quite a bit of space. An error made by the mason or architect perhaps, but not one large enough that would justify having it corrected. Within, you neatly throw in a few sets of travel clothes, 43 Mewmun Crowns, and a few books on the history of Mewmus, philosophical musings, and regional geography.

It is just as you finish moving your dresser back into place that the door opens, and Bethany walks in.

“Luna! Yew best better be- Oh! Well lookit yew! Yewer actually doin’ what yewer suppose to be! That’s got to be a first!” You could swear that you hear her jowls swoosh as she talks.
“Have you forgotten that it is my birthday, knave? I am growing up.” You say, pointing your nose up at the woman.
“Growin’ into giant brat is what yewer doin’. And yew haven’t even picked out yewer hat yet.”

>Time for one of the most important votes in the quest.
>Submit a hat for Luna to wear.

After you don your hat, you are led down to the dining hall by the miserable cur of a woman. A resounding cheer is given as you walk into the main foyer, an acknowledgement of your arrival and importance for the night. You see many guests already chatting with each other around the room, from the upper brass of the Mewmun army to an ambassador from the Imperium Corgialus entertaining the children’s table. Your mother and Prince Septarian are strangely missing.

>Speak to Marshal Thornbridge of the Mewmun military
>Go be entertained by the Imperium Corgialus
>Speak to your father who is with his Black Circlet Knights
>Speak with the Beastmen envoys?
>Something else?
>What now

Also, Session Pause for two hours!

I rolled to see how long it would take Bethany to arrive. You were this close to being caught.

Hmm.....

First off see if we can find a sharp knife and stash it somewhere in our dress (it might be a bit crude, but these are desperate times and we don't know what will happen when we make our escape, or WHEN we'll make our escape. Best to be prepared.)

And speak with the Beastmen envoys. See what they're all about.

Most importantly, hat. Obviously the royal princess birthday crown. We gotta keep up appearances and not draw too much attention to ourselves, as silly as the thing may be. I'm up for other ideas though.

Get a weapon, a knife or the leg of a chair or something
Then, when the coast is clear, sneak out with the supplies.
Also, i suggest this hat. its a little to big, but its the last thing beloved grandmother gave to us before she passed.
>>

>Speak with the Marshal about teh military affairs of the kingdom
>Also while none are looking secret away a rather sharp knife from the table.
>Also for the wittiest of hats we need something right proper and with plenty of poof!

Okay! Looks like you've chosen to wear the pooferriffic hat from >>2157050 and to get a knife. As for who to talk to, we'll let the dice decide.

You can't help but feel a small smile cross your face as they cheer for your arrival. You were a princess and this was your domain. That is how it should be.

"Enjoy the party my princess!" Bethany says before giving you a curtsey and walking away. Appearances were everything in the court and in diplomatic relations. Having a servant act disrespectful to her royal ward would project weakness to all the attendees present. Naturally, you use this opportunity to shoot her a smug grin, and remind her that her cleaning of your room was substandard.

"Yes, the floor shone brilliantly, but I could not see my own immaculate reflection in it. Clean it again!" You say, punctuating your words with a small clap.
"Yes. Of course my princess." You could tell the words strained her as she backed out of the room even faster. You would more than likely pay for that later, but it felt very good to get back at that wastrel of a maid your parents insist on sticking you with.

It also left you unsupervised for the moment you swiped a steak knife from a nearby table and hid it within the folds of your dress. It's not very much, nor is it particularly threatening, but now you're armed. Now you have the power to defend yourself should your father or his "dark and political" forces come for you next.

These are the thoughts that fill your head when you come up to Marshal Thornbridge. The Marshal was an older gentleman and hailed from a family with a strong military tradition. He had earned his name during his campaigns against the Beastmen in the last war, where he used the thornwood trees native to the region to flank and deliver a crushing blow to Beastman forces deep in their own heartland. Armored Mewmun soles did better with thorns than bare Beastmen feet. It was a story he was particularly fond of telling. It must have been considering he had been three quarters of the way through the story when you arrived.

"Which is when my men came around from behind and smashed their entire defensive line! Beasties had no idea-"
"Hello Marshal Thornbridge." You say, liberating a rather bored looking corgi, who takes the opportunity to quickly trot off back to the Corgialus group.
"Ah! If it isn't the princess herself! Happy birthday! I have to say I'm surprised you've come over here to talk to me considering the show old Fluphius is putting on over there. Corgis are good tacticians and builders, but are a bit too flamboyant for me. Isn't that ri- oh." He stops just as he looks back to where the corgi once stood.
"Now," he says, turning back towards you. "Did you come to hear an old war story? It was only eight yea-"
"No, Marshal Thornwood, I was actually interested in the current affairs of our grand military." You quickly interrupt him before he could truly get into his own story.

"Hmph. 'Current affairs'. As you know, the war has been over for some time now thanks to your mother. 'The Woman to End All Wars'. If she's not careful she'll put me out of a job!" He says with a laugh.
"But still," he continues, "Why are you interested in this? It's usually the Marshal's or the king's job to deal with these military matters."
"I'll be a magnificent queen one day! When that happens I want to make sure I am ready for anything this nation can throw at me. I am now ten years of age! It is time for me to embrace it." You say with pride.
Thornbridge laughs at this. "Princess, you are far off from becoming queen. You should enjoy the days you have now. These ones are the best you'll have in your entire life." He says as he steps away from you still chuckling. He seems to be heading for the corgi group, looking to find his old victim.

You stand there pouting and watching him walk away.

>Talk to another group?
>Something else?
>What now?

Sorry for the delay. There was some spill over from what I had to do and this was a long update.

Well that was a bust, I suppose for now we should scan the crowds see whose who in court and see what might be going on.

I wonder where Mother might have wandered off to...Lets go find her, it shall be grand like a game of hide and seek with political repercussions!
>>
>>2157537
Ooo, sounds fun. Finding Prismera sounds like a good idea! Now think, where would she be at this moment?.... Where did that slimey prince park his carriage?
>>
You continue to watch the marshal for a moment and see him being barked at and chased off by a small group of Imperial Corgis. You huff and cross your arms. How dare he brush you off like a child? You were 10 years old and almost an adult! You were soon to be queen!

Your thoughts then turn to your mother. Where was she? It was unlike her to miss events such as these. Not only was she a master at diplomacy, she was your mother and she loved you. You know you have at least one parent who did.

An armored boot slams the door open from one of the adjacent hallways. Out of it stomps a knight wearing the heraldry of your father's Black Circlet and dragging along a struggling Prince Septeria. You see a dagger still lodged in his spine, his legs and tail below completely limp.

"My leige!" He calls out before pointing to the your father, the king.

The Imperium table quickly shifts into a defensive formation.
The Mewmuns and Black Circlet quickly gather around their king, who seems confused and bewildered.
The Beastmen let out a bowl, accusing the mewmuns of treachery before they begin to bolt towards their taken prince.

All stop when Queen Prismara, the Woman to End All Wars is dragged in behind Septarian.

"My King! We caught them attempting elope!"

Oh my. This party's about to get... a little wild.
>>
I'm not announcing the next session just yet since next Sunday is Christmas Eve and I haven't gotten my work schedule yet.

I hope you all have had as much fun playing as I've had writing! We're looking at about one more session before we get to the actual meat and stop playing as a powerless little girl. Once that happens, I'll post the game rules and mechanics. I don't want you all to get spoiled on what's to come!

Have a great night folks.
