General Rules

15 min voting period after each main post. Write-ins votes are welcomed/encouraged. Votes that are non-contradictory and add to the narrative will be considered. Think 'Rule of Cool'

Combat mechanics/skill test will be done using best 3 out of 5 rolls of 1d100, unless otherwise specified. Modifiers may come into play depending on the MC's statistics which can improve odds and vice versa as the QM sees fit. The QM will do their best to inform players of when such modifiers will come up during votes. (Example: Aim at a target at long range with a scattershot weapon will require a higher roll to make a successful hit than a normal blaster weapon).

Training with other bots and successful missions can add to your overall abilities. Strong character relationships with your comrades can also benefit the MC as it will improve battle synergy and moral (less likely to want to fall back/retreat). Of course the vice versa can come into play as well. A failed mission may have consequences but result in unforeseen outcomes (In the show, Tarantulus, Blackarachnia, & Quickstrike were supposed to secure an energon post. The Maximals interfered, resulting in the loss of the post BUT Tarantulus gained a new lair.). A Predacon can always sabotage missions to make other bots look incompetent as well, just hope you’re persuasive enough to do so and watch out for those

Also keep an eye out at your energon build up levels; too much time in robot mode outside of a structure, such as a base can cause negative impacts on your combat maneuvers/skill test, including potential loss of spark. In the event of loss of spark, pending the results of a vote, a time lapse in the narrative will happen and a new stasis pod will fall. (Roll for new character or with a high relation level, a blank protoform will descend and your allies will reignite your spark)

Last time on Beast Wars Quest
After sending Rattrap on a one way trip to Suplex City, Dinobot suggest settling things with a training exercise.
>>
With the teams decided for the impromptu training exercise, Dinobot has ordered you to equip yourself properly, which means a trip to the 'goody room' (more accurately the base armory). As you peruse the stock of equipment, you go over the details of this exercise.

1. Rhinox, while act as unbiased official and will not contribute any unfair advantage to either side. (due to his officiating, repairs to your drone are postponed and you will not have it during the exercise)

2. No killing blows. We're all Maximals here, so weapons are to be set to stun damage. Anyone who violates this will answer to Dinobot personally. (addendum: Will be reported to Optimus and he will determine the proper course of correctional action - Rhinox)

3. No leaving the designated quadrant of the combat simulation. Allowances have been given for certain Maximals beast abilities and fighting styles ie, flying and burrowing within combat zone are permitted.

4. Environmental improvisation is permitted (encouraged) provided they fall within rules 1 & 2.

5. Losing to vermin is unacceptable. (while not official in any capacity, Dinobot stressed this with great intent after Rattrap and Kickback went out to set up the designated markers.)

They seem reasonable enough, though might take some of the fun out of kicking the rat's tail. The only difficult part you can see is that Rattrap and Kickback will have a bit of an edge, seeing as they're picking the field of battle. Rattrap will probably use this time to set up a few traps or decoys while Kickback's tactics are relatively unknown. You suspect from his programming, he'll use stealth ambush attacks, similar to your own style. Still you get the advantage of hitting the armory for some extra gear to compensate.

So what should you grab - due to your size you can only care a bit of extra gear, though with the lost of Bullybird, you can utilize the storage space.

>Signature Marks - Small (max carry capacity- 5) Modified Hot Marks. Usually a counter measure to Predacon thermal scanners,
>Target Box - Large (max carry capacity 1) programmable drone used for target practice. has no offensive capabilities, but its flight capabilities might serve as a decoy for anyone looking for you in the sky.
>Tigatron's cryo ammo rounds Small (clip capacity- 3 shots) Tigatron's weapons have a few freezing rounds that can freeze a bot in place. Might be tricky to use as they're not designed for your rifle. Could have adverse effects if a weapon jam.
>Holographic Projector - Large (max carry capacity 1) salvaged Predacon tech. Deployable projector that can be made to set up a false image, ie cameo cover, fake maximal image, etc.
>Airazor's experimental tracer rounds - Small (clip capacity 6 shots) Airazor has Rhinox working on a new ammo type to aid in accuracy and identify targets for squad missions. Has minor incendiary capabilities. Not designed for your rifle; could have adverse effects if a weapon jam. NOTE: Rhinox hasn't cleared these rounds for field operations yet, but a training exercise might be a good chance to see their capabilities. Successful usage might earn bonus points with Rhinox and Airazor
>Grapple Hook - Medium (carry capacity 1- arm mounted) A retractable arm grapple hook could help with mobility in forested environment. Might not be as useful if the rodents choose a terrain lacking in elevated positions.
>Demo-charges (MOD) - Medium (max carry capacity 3) A Rattrap staple. While Demo weapons might violate the rules, if used at a low ordinance level, they could be used to great effect. Can be charged with energon in a similar 'taser' effect as Bully bird, but will be stationary.

You look over everything and while many things look tempting, you finally made a decision. First you grab the signature marks. These should come in handy for messing with KB and RT's scanners; maybe even set up a trap or two.

Next you grab the holographic projector. Its definitely heavier than you remember but should prove useful with a distraction to your battle style.

Once you're certain that you have all the equipment you need, you head back to the main deck. Dinobot seems to be leaning against the central computer, his arms crossed as Rhinox sits back in the helm chair.

"Grrr, what is taking them so long?!" Dinobot snarls. "Let us get this underway."

"Rattrap and Kickback are doing exactly what you all agreed to. Setting up a perimeter and making perpetrations for this exercise. It IS what you agreed to do, right? Making constructive use of the down time?" Rhinox gives Dinobot a look.

"So then we're still on stand by?" you chime in.

"It shouldn't be much longer." Rhinox reports. "I trust you've fully stocked up on equipment?"

You nod. "Just point me towards the rat."

"Get in line." Dinobot scoffs.

Rhinox sighs. "Remember you two: training."

You crack a smile and Dinobot just scowls. You figure you've got a little bit longer to get ready.

>Discuss strategy with Dinobot

You approach Dinobot to discuss what you should do.

"So what are you thinking?" You ask Dinobot.

"I've been thinking on which mission Optimus will choose."

You tilt your head in slight shock. "Huh, I would've figured you'd be thinking more about what we're about to do."

He turns his gaze to you. "I was on my way to discuss the matter with Optimus when I found you and Rattrap's tomfoolery. Now I am baby sitting while we should be discussing battle strategies to defeat the Predacons."

"Hey I'm just as eager to take out those targets." You know your usual tactics arent going to work on this bot. "Though I have to say that this training could be beneficial."

"Let us hope so."

"What do you think they've got up their sleeves? Think they'll try something unexpected or just stick to the usual hit and run tactics?"

Dinobot straightens up from his previous stance. "When dealing with Rattrap, he prefers the indirect approach. You can expect him to improvise his tactics on his surroundings as opposed to open conflict. Unless you can goad him into it."

You smile mischievously, "I think I can come up with some ideas."

Dinobot just shakes his head. "You dont think he's not expecting your usual combat strategy? He'll keep out of sight of your scope and I'd predict Kickback to do the same. I'd wager they're picking an area that lacks line of sight. They'll force you to get close up, where from what I understand is more of Kickback's specialty."

"But that's also your specialty as well isnt it?"

"I prefer direct conflict, yes, but Kickback is about quick assaults. In and out of battle, forcing his opponents to chase after him into one of Rattraps ambushes. Or atleast thats how i would use them if i was commanding them against the Predacons."

Hmm, this might be more difficult than you expected. Maybe you could voice your own take of how to engage Team Vermin.

"Well, we could try to do the same thing right?"

Dinobot looks at you with a bit of disgust. "Are you serious? Fighting like vermin?!"

"Hear me out! They're expecting us to try and come at them with our more traditional tricks. But what if we go at them like they would go at us?"

Dinobot pauses for a moment.

"And isn't being a warrior all about adapting to situations to accomplish the mission's perimeters?"

Its clear your words are resonating with him. While you guess you could appeal to his warrior's pride, it was a bit of a hard sell to get him to agree to thinking like the rodent, but you think that the two of you might be able to pull off their own hit and run tactics.

You hear a ping from the communications console.

"Alright, thats the signal." Rhinox says. "You two are going to be heading towards...."

The main screen moves over the local terrain, heading west by northwest into a heavily forested area on the edge of the rough rocky terrain from the base. Hmm, an interesting choice. Plenty of places to hide for certain.

>Let the hunt begin

"What do you say big D? Lets get this hunt started." You stand there punching your fist. Dinobot smiles and nods.

"Beast mode." he says and transforms into his velociraptor mode and walks over towards the ship's lift. "Head out ahead and meet me at the entrance of the forest. Do not engage but keep an eye out for any enemy movement."

You nod and transform into your owl form. On cue, Rhinox opens up the top hatch. "Sentinel standing down. Good luck out there. I'll be in contact if you guys need anything or if Optimus request you guys to come back."

"Time to hit the wind!" Flapping your wings you head out of the roof hatch. You circle around the base once to build up a bit of momentum as you take flight towards the objective. You do notice the feeling of flying is a bit sluggish with the projector in the usual spot your drone goes. As you head away from the base you look back behind you catching sight of Dinobot sprinting from the base towards your guys rendezvous point.

The trip outward is uneventful. You scan the ground noticing a few obvious tracks from team vermin leading to the area, but nothing out of the ordinary. Not that you'd believe they'd set up a preemptive trap before the designated area, but you rather be safe than sorry. It wont take long for you to get to the forest entrance, definitely sooner than Dinobot. What do you want to do first?

>Land, transform and use your rifle scope to see if you can notice anything inside the forest.

You look around the vicinity and notice nothing overly suspicious. Still you're no fool. Doubling back you look for good cover and concealment before landing. The outside of the forest is sparse in terms of cover but there's a few hills here and there.

"Nightracer, Maximize." Transforming into your robot mode, you lie against the ground and take out your rifle. Using the scope you start looking around.

Nothing in the tree line...nothing in the brush, that you can make out....

"Dont forget to reset your rifles power output."

You pop your head back up, turning it around to see Dinobot in his beast mode just a bit behind you to the left.

"You really shouldn't sneak up on a sniper like that."

Dinobot scoffs. "Your weapon isn't nearly as effective at close range. I trust you weren't trying to take a shot of opportunity before we entered."

"Just scouting the primary entrance. Didnt want us charging head long into something foolish."

"Report then."

"Nothing. Its quiet."

Dinobot looks over the entrance. "Too quiet."

Before you and Dinobot proceed, you stop him.

"Hey i've got some extra equipment that might assist us on this task." You take out some of the markers and remove the projector from your storage. "How do you think we should use these?"

Dinobot looks over the projector, then the markers. He picks up the marker. "Hmm, well these might prove a bit more versatile in terms of usage. If the rodents aren't holed up somewhere we can use them to lead them into our own ambush." He puts it back in your hands and takes the projector. "This however, will be trickier. Its a stationary device meaning we'll have to pick a spot for it to be of most use. That said, we can't just keep setting it up and redeploying it over and over again."

"Why not? Its not that heavy. Well not really."

"Setting it up takes time. Time enough for the vermin to capitalize on our distraction of putting it in place."

Hmm, you hadn't consider that. But still maybe you can use that to your advantage somehow.

"Hmm, well then how about you take the projector and I'll hang on to the markers."

Dinobot gives you that look.

"This way we can coordinate how to best use it. " You respond with a shrug. "That, and the projector is messing with my trajectory. I am a delicate lady after all."

Dinobot just groans as he transforms, placing the device in his storage and returns back to beast mode. "If this is our course of action, then you will scout on ahead. Using a few of the signature markers to bait our quarry into a clearing. I'll program the projector to show a false image of us and use two of the markers to fool their scanners."

Hmm, not a bad plan.

"Sounds like you have a spot picked out."

"Not exactly. There are a few areas that might suit this plan if Rattrap hasn't considered them himself."

"Does he know about them?"

He nods. "It was Rattrap and Cheetor that originally scanned this location on reconnaissance duty. Probably one of the reasons he selected this location."

That sounds like it might make things more difficult. Scouting the area might be the smartest decision. Then again, they might have figured that you'd be eye's in the sky and use the denser parts of the forest for cover.

What should you do?

"Alright then. I guess I'll take to the air and smoke them out, so to speak."

Dinobot nods. "Stay in contact and dont fail."

"Pffft. Like that would happen." You transform back into your bird form and fly into the combat zone. Dinobot follows from the ground, though he seems to be moving with more deliberate steps, his head swinging back and forth, scanning the forest. Seems like he's taking this serious.

You get to a suitable elevation above the tree line. Its a nice spot overall, would make for a nice relaxing off duty flight but business before pleasure. Though if you can, you'll find a way to do both.

You begin on the outside of the forest; its unlikely that they'd pick a spot so easily seen from the ground let alone the air but better to be sure.

So far all quiet. There doesn't seem to be any signs of the rodents in the south or the west. You'll swing around the north side before you head more in ward.

The forest seems fairly uneventful, minus the sporadic sounds of nature and rare whistle of wind, there's no sign of the two. Its a tad unnerving that they are this good at keeping themselves concealed, but perhaps its just the tension of not wanting to fail getting to you.

You begin your sweep into the forest proper. Nothing still out of the ordinary. Its so uneventful that its making it difficult to stay focused on the situation. Your minds starting to wander.

Which mission will Optimus choose? Maybe Optimus will send a group to both of those positions. What better way to throw the Predacons further off balance by hitting multiple targets. Though the end result might be like that of the pod, one successful and one failed.
Speaking of the pod, the new Predacon and BA seem to be getting chummy. Here you though you were a bit special, but apparently shes this way with all the new girls. But now that you can snoop on her transmissions, you can find out what she's playing at. Still killer boots though. You wonder what Airazor and Tigatron are up to right now. Hehe, wonder if your galpal is making a move or if they're still playing games.

"Dinobot to Nightracer, report."

Uh-oh. Oops. You look around and notice you've made quite a bit of distance on your sweep but haven't noticed anything. You might have actually missed something being distracted.

"Sorry, I got a bit distracted." you say sheepishly. "But I dont think I missed them."

DInobot snarls. "What do you mean 'distracted'? If this wasn't a training excersise and we were hunting Predacon's, what then?! They would take full advantage of your mistake and you would be scrap!"

You shrug, "Its a big dense forest and they're two smaller bots. The odds of me running into them are slim. Besides," Ever the optimistic one, you look for the silver lining. "If they had seen me dont you think they would have taken a shot on me?"

"No excuse! Keep your mind on your job. Dinobot out."

Well that could've gone better. You recall Dinobot is very meticulous when it comes to missions. Not that you're usually a slouch, you just prefer to play it by ear.

So far, things are still coming up empty around here. You need to determine your next play.

>Double back, maybe you missed something

You decide that if there was a chance that you missed something, its better to be certain. You turn around in mid air and begin circling outward. Its not quite the exact route you took before, but you've got the gist of where you need to be.

Still little in the ways of luck shockingly enough. You knew they'd be tough to track but you didn't suspect it would be this much of a challenge. Sure, Rattrap being a spy would be tricky. His grey fur would make it easy for him to lurk in shadows of large fallen trees and branches. Still he's not the quietest of individuals, particularly if something was annoying him. Kudos for him learning to keep his mouth shut. Kickback is a bit of a mix bag. He's a snow rabbit, so his white fur should stand out as much as your white and black feathers. And while his ninja agility along with his natural speed would make him a chore to pin him down, you have the predatory edge over them. Your instincts should be kicking in to make things easier for you.

You've been at this for just under half a mega-cycle (1 hr) and still no signs of....wait, what was that? You focus your eyes along a small break in some of the dense tree line along the north east part of the forest. If you didnt know better it was an abnormally large brown animal moving the far side of a few trees. While one could make the argument that it was a natural beast, it strikes you as odd that a creature would be moving so carefully to not be seen to one passing by. Its behavior is too cautious.

Bingo.

>Activate active cameo. If its one of the rodents, you might give yourself away with suddenly disappearing from the sky.

You activate your active cameo, in hopes of getting a closer look of the movement and potentially getting the drop on them. With your beast mode, you glide silently downward.

The movement is still a bit obscured by from what you can see, but you start making out what appears to be a large rabbit but...its a brown. It would appear that your fellow arctic dweller has his own stealth ability to change his beast modes coloration to adapt to his surroundings.

From his movements, it seems like he hasn't fully detected you but you can see he's actively looking for you. How should you proceed?

>Go for it. Let the games begin (attack)

>Scan the area first. This could be where the rodents have set up

You scan the area with your sensors, looking around the area for an additional traces of rattrap or signs that this could be where they plan their ambush. You're not picking up any thing that looks like it could be tech, other than Kickback.

As you circle the air above, you watch as Kickback's ears slowly and methodically scan the area for sounds. He adjust from his spot like before this time out in the open. His litle nose works overtime as he holds still. Does he know your here? If so he hasn't made any overly aggressive actions, but this could be him trying to lull you into a false sense of security.

How should you proceed?

>Land on a nearby tree, but keep your distance.
>If he's out in the open, this could be an opening you've been looking for
>Wait a bit longer, he clearly things you've bailed

>Wait a bit longer, he clearly things you've bailed

There's little doubt in your mind that Kickback is simply taking a calculated risked to determine if you've left. Unfortunately for him, your beast mode's wings dont make a discernible sound for him to catch. Atleast naturally, cybertronian tech could compensate.

The moments feels much longer than it actually is as you circle over head. Your patience pays off though.

"Kickback to Rattrap. Not sure where she went, but it looks as if Nightracer has doubled back."

You can't hear the response back, but you judging from his changed stance, he's gonna head out.

"Roger that. Heading your way. Kickback out."

You watch as the rabbit darts towards the northwest in a serpentine pattern, often using the larger trees to spring off of. No wonder there hasn't been many obvious tracks from the newbie. Clever.

Reporting this information to Dinobot is a given, but perhaps it would be best to attempt to follow the rabbit first to find where the two are making their base of operations. There is the risk of this becoming a two on one situation, but if you hold off to reconvene with Dinobot, you'll risk losing Kickback's 'trail' as it were. Additionally, it might be risky to make a communication attempt while following Kickback, with those sensitive ears, he'd have little trouble picking you up if you get too close.

>Follow Kickback. It might be tricky due to the tree line and his erratic movements but with some careful navigation, he should be able to lead you to RT
>Report to Dinobot first, you'll have a harder time following, but you'll avoid your communication attempt from being detected
>Hold position and have Dinobot meet up with you. The trail may go cold but this wasn't about pursuing them, it was about getting them to come to you.
>Follow and attempt to engage, doing so may draw out Rattrap from his hiding place to assist his teammate.

Uh, looks like it's actually 3 to 2 in favor of following Kickback actually.
>>
>>2449204
three votes to follow kick back but only one of those was to actively engage them. roll still favors following him discretely
