>Robin's Research Edition

Hello, good people of /qst/. This quest is, as is probably obvious from the OP pic, based on the Teen Titans animated series. You'll be taking the part of a young man and potential Titan, guiding him through his trials and tribulations.

>Rules

There will be a 15 minute voting period between posts.

Please only choose one option (I will let you know in cases where you can choose more)

An option with two arrows (>>) beside it is one that can be combined with other options

Write-ins of dialogue are allowed, but they won't be put in as-written, just sort of the spirit of the write-in. Additionally, dialogue write-ins require a significant amount of support from other players to be put in, as they can greatly affect the character.

Action write-ins will only be allowed under certain circumstances, which I'll announce. You can suggest an action to me if you want, and I may allow it, but might not depending on various factors.

No dice system in this quest. Victory and defeat will come down to decisions rather than random luck. Learn from experiences, develop strategies, and think outside the box at times (like I said, an action can be suggested to me).

Above all, have fun. I want this to be an enjoyable experience for everyone. Through success, failure, and everything in-between, I hope this will be an adventure worth remembering.

As the dummy's head rolls across the floor, it occurs to you just how powerful your mind truly is. Throwing punches without having to lift a finger is amazing on its own, but over the past few months, you've discovered so much more than you can do using your psychic faculties. Force-fields, teleportation, flight, restraining foes from common crooks to amazon warriors and a man with the power of gods, and that could just be the tip of the iceberg. You learned quickly that emotions give your powers...well, power. But, now you understand that there's more to your abilities than that. Fury, fear, sadness, joy, those are the just the sparks that get things started, it's your own will that decides just how potent your powers will be.

There is one obvious drawback, of course. The more juice you give your abilities, the greater the strain of using them. Holding someone like Donna takes a vastly greater troll than restraining some punk with a switchblade. Punching a training dummy's head clean off is more tiring than throwing a strike of normal strength. But, so long as you're mindful of your limits and stamina in battle, that shouldn't be too much of an issue. Besides, your endurance has improved from training already. If you keep at it, you're sure you'll do even better.

Your morning exercises have already yielded better results than you'd expected, and the day is just getting started. Maybe you should keep at your training and find out what else you can do. Maybe sparring against one of your tough friends could be a good test.

Then again, Robin did mention having found some information about your family, and you did say you'd want to see it later. You also need to make plans to hang out with Raven and do something she enjoys, whether that means seeing a certain type of movie, playing chess, or something as simple as meditating together.

There's also some things on the family front that could probably use your attention. You haven't seen or heard from your mother since the conversation you had over the communicator, and while you'd imagine Marissa's probably told her what's going on, you can't say for certain. And that's another thing, you haven't heard from Simon or Marissa since they left. They said they'd contact you at some point, but maybe it would be best for you to contact them instead.

>A. Do some more training (specify what you'd like to do)

Sorting out all of this family stuff is definitely high on your list of priorities. However, doing all of that in a single chunk seems like it has the potential to be quite emotionally taxing. Something to intercede in there, or at least something to look forward to would probably be good to have.

As you think about what you could do, you look over to see your friends still lifting obscene amounts of heavy metal. Cyborg seems to be going for a new personal best, while Star and Donna seem to be competing as usual. Those two really enjoy testing themselves against one another. Whether it's lifting weights, flying-

Oh, hey. You haven't gone flying with them in a while. You always enjoy doing that, and it might give you a good opportunity to see how willpower effects your flight abilities. That sounds like something good to do today. You approach the others and ask the girls if they'd be up for going flying later.

"Of course, friend," Starfire answers, her voice a tad strained. "That...ungh...sounds most enjoyable."

"Sounds fun to me, too," Donna grunts.

With that settled, you leave the training room and track down Robin, letting him know that you're ready to see what he found. Fortuitously, you find him in his room looking over something or other, meaning he's already in the right place to access any information he wished to show you.

"Like I said, it's not much, but I did find records of you and your sister's birth, which gave me a last name," Robin explains.

Images of what appear to be birth certificates appear in the screen, listing a Marissa Johnson, and Samuel Johnson Junior.

"Going off of that, I already had your dad's name, and was able to find a little more about him," Robin continues, dismissing the images and pulling up a document. "It wasn't the happiest thing to find, but it did include your mother's name."

You find yourself looking at an obituary, mentioning that Samuel Johnson had passed away, with a date less than two years after you and your sister were born. No cause of death is listed, and there's not very much said about him, just that he is succeeded by his wife, Dana Johnson, his son, Samuel Johnson Junior, and his daughter, Marissa Johnson. Other than that....

Wait, there is a mention of the company he worked for.

WayneTech.

"I haven't been able to find anything about the cause of death as of yet, but if you want, I'll do some digging and find out more about him," Robin offers.

>>A. "Thanks, Robin, I would appreciate that."

>>B. "Thanks, but I don't need to know."

"Thanks, Robin," you say to your leader, grateful not only for the information, but for the fact that he'll continue investigating on your behalf. "I would appreciate that."

"No problem," Robin tells you, closing the document. "If your father was working for WayneTech, it shouldn't take me long to figure out what he did. Finding a cause of death could take time, though. I'll let you know what I uncover."

"In the meantime, I should be able to get some more information from my mom," you tell him.

"Good luck," Robin wishes, already diving back in to whatever he was doing before you arrived.

You leave Robin in peace, vacating his room and pulling out your communicator. Rather than calling your mother right away, though, you instead give Simon and Marissa a call. Simon's contact information's quicker to find, and you get the feeling that the two of them are probably nearby one-another.

"Peter," Simon greets, his face appearing on your screen. "Hey, sorry for not calling, but we haven't really gotten settled in yet. I was hoping to have things sort of finalized before I updated you. How are you?"

"Doing alright," you answer. "I wanted to call and check on you two. I haven't heard a peep since you left."

"There hasn't been much to say," Simon replies. "We've been mostly on the move. So far, we haven't seen any signs of HIVE agents following us. Either they're being far more subtle than I've ever seen, or Blood doesn't consider diverting forces to deal with a couple of runaways worth it, which honestly worries me more. If he needs all of his people elsewhere, he's got something big planned."

Comforting.

"Right now, we're in Keystone City," Simon continues. "Stomping grounds of Jinx and Kid Flash. Feels weird saying this, but if Blood makes trouble around here, it's good to know we'll have two Titans to help deal with it. Right now, we're kind of just working on finding jobs. We're on the young side, but considering the sort of things we can do, finding someone willing to hire us won't be tough."

"Do Jinx and Kid Flash know you're there?" you ask.

"I doubt they even know we exist," Simon answers. "It's not as if we checked in with them when we got here. No offense to you or your friends, but we hope to have as little interaction with Titans as possible here. If you want to tell them yourself, there's nothing I can do about that. And, given Jinx's history with the HIVE, I doubt she'll give us much trouble even if she does know who we are."

Fair points, but you do have another concern.

"Do you guys even have a place to stay?" you inquire.

Simon smiles. "Blood provided us all with funds when we were agents of the HIVE. We were able to secure the money from our accounts before he thought to lock us out. We're fine until we find work. We aren't staying any place fancy, a small apartment, but we aren't going to go hungry or freeze out here."

That certainly eases your mind. You were already considering dipping into your funds to help the two of them keep afloat. It's good to know that shouldn't be necessary. Simon and Marissa should be just fine.

"Can I talk to Marissa?" you request.

Simon nods at you, then glances over his shoulder. "Marissa! It's your brother!"

Marissa's face soon comes into view. She seems kind of surprised to hear from you, but still pleased.

"Hey Sa-Peter," she catches herself. "What's up?"

"Not much. Does something need to be up for me to call my sister?" you ask innocently.

Marissa smiles at that, hearing you call her your sister probably meaning a lot to her. "No, but I figured Mr. 'Teen Titan' would always have something going on."

"I just wanted to check up on you two and see how you're doing," you explain. "So, how are you doing?"

"Not bad," she answers. "A bit bored without daily combat practice or missions, but I've got to do plenty of travelling, and Keystone seems like a nice change of scenery. How are you doing? Any new trouble with Blood?"

"Nothing so far," you tell her. "But, I'm sure he'll find a way to annoy me soon enough. Oh, I've been learning more about my powers, getting stronger."

Marissa smirks. "Blood was probably hoping that would happen when he gave you those powers, but now it probably makes him want to rip his hair out. Well, what hair he has left."

That makes you smile.

"So, are you and Simon being good to each-other?" you question.

"Well, neither of us has dumped the other, so I think so," Marissa answers, looking to her left. "We've known each other since we were little kids, we've always been good to each other."

You somehow doubt that's entirely true. In fact, for a moment there, you swear you can remember Marissa bullying him a bit when you were all little kids. But, hey, whatever, you've all grown up, and you'll take her word that they're getting along. You think you're supposed to worry about your sister dating, but if anything you actually feel better knowing that she has Simon. You're less worried than you would be if she was out on her own.

"Have you talked to mom since you left?" you ask.

"Yeah, I called her to let her know we were leaving," Marissa answers. "She told me she was ditching the HIVE, too and planned on lying low for a bit."

"She'll be okay, right?" you ask her.

"She'll be fine, Sam," Marissa answers, wincing a bit as she realizes she called you by the wrong name. "Mom may not be as good of a fighter as we are, but she's still good, and knows more about the HIVE and its agents than any of us. She can handle this."

"Would calling her be a bad idea?" you question.

"Nah, that should be fine," she answers, not seeming worried. "And I'm sure after all that's happened, she'd love to hear from you."

You hope so. You know that things can't have been easy for her these last few months. You've had a tough time, but she pretty much lost her son, at least temporarily. That's got to cut deep.

"How'd she take the news about you leaving?" you wonder.

"Honestly?" Marissa asks in turn. "I think she was relieved. Having me and you on different sides was....well, saying it was hard for her would be an understatement. Since you and I both left the HIVE, she didn't have to give a second thought about what side she's on."

Things like that make you glad you've been reconnecting with your family. Despite some questionable choices, you can plainly see that your family's always cared for each other.

Speaking of family, there's one member you want to know about.

"Is there anything you can tell me about dad?" you ask.

Marissa shrugs. "Not much. He died before I can remember, but mom's told me a little about him. He was kind of stubborn, but apparently really kind to most people. From what mom says, he really took to the idea of nothing being impossible if you put your mind to it. He was an all-around good guy, and mom says he loved us more than anything."

Something about her tone with that gives you pause, as if she's not entirely convinced. Maybe she's skeptical because she can't remember your father, and thinks your mom might just be blowing smoke? Hard to day.

"Do you believe what mom says about him?" you ask your sister.

She blows a strand of hair out of her face. "I believe the gist of it, but I think that she probably overplays just how great he was. She loves him and misses him, so she probably talks better about him than she would otherwise."

"Do you know what dad did for a living?" you ask.

"Mom said he was a scientist or something," Marissa answers. "I don't remember what exactly he did."

"I'll give her a call and ask her later," you tell your sister. "But first, can you tell me what Sam was like?"

So who is scheduled for night patrol tonight? Peter, certainly because that's the most narratively interesting, but who's he partnered with.
>>
>>2479960
Peter might have to give that some thought
>>
>>2479973
Does he get to choose, or are you saying we get to choose?
>>
>>2479980
That is what I'm saying
>>
>>2479987
Might want to make it a poll then.

Random prattling: With Night Patrol being two people per day, and with the Titans now having 7 members, the math is really nice. Each Titan does Night Patrol twice per week. To make things easy, its probably the same schedule every week, with the flexibility of trading off shifts if you can get someone to cover you.

The simplest pattern would be S: 1 + 2, M: 2 + 3, T: 3 + 4, W: 4 + 5, T: 5 + 6, F: 6 + 7, S: 7 + 1.

If we go by that, then Peter has two Patrol partners: his adjacent numbers. Cyborg is clearly one of them, because they are One True Patrol. So who's the other? Regardless, we have the option of seeing the others through people switching shifts.

If we want to make a puzzle out of it, then we can try teasing out extra information. For instance, are any two people not allowed to Patrol together? For instance Cyborg and Beastboy might not be allowed because they get distracted. Beastboy and Raven might not be allowed because Raven loses her patience. Kid Crimson might not be allowed to patrol with Donna or Raven so as to not ignite a shipping war.

Assuming the above, that leaves Beast Boy, Robin, and Starfire as his potential other partner. All good choices, but I particularly like Starfire (because she's so much fun) and Robin (because it'd be a good opportunity to develop our friendship)

Gonna wait and see what happens, so it will be a spur of the moment decision for me. If I had to pick now it would be one of the guys because Peter is already scheduled to spend time with Donna, Star, and Raven today.

Marissa is clearly unprepared for that question. To be fair, it's sort of odd. Technically, you are Sam, but you don't remember being Sam and it's this whole thing...

"Sam was...." Marissa begins, her voice trailing off as she works out what to say to you. "He was....I don't know, he was driven, I guess. Sure, he spent time with family and friends, had a sense of humor, and like listening to music, but he spent most of his time training and working. Sometimes he'd go weeks spending more time with Ryan than me or Simon. We were all working hard to be the best, but Sam was determined to be the best of the best. He'd pester the instructors for harder training regiments, and Blood to give him special assignments. Made it a pain in the ass to try and keep up with him, that's for sure."

She goes quiet for a moment as she thinks things over. "He wasn't a hardass, though. He was good to us, even Paul. None of us were really surprised when Blood made him leader. It was kind of annoying to have him show us up, though. We tried finding things we could beat him at. I got good with close-range weapons, especially blades, and he couldn't keep up with me there. Ryan made himself as strong as possible, and none of us could keep up there. Paul...well, we're all kind of glad we don't match him where he's best. And Simon, he's the only one that didn't break off and specialize. Instead, he kept pushing to be the all-around best, which is why Blood put him in charge when you left."

>>A. "So, I was awesome back then, too."

>>B. "It seems like I'm not all that different from Sam now."

It seems like Sam was a little more driven than Peter, but part of that is probably that Peter has had bad experiences with overworking himself.

"Did Sam have any hobbies?" you ask.

Marissa shakes her head. "Not really. He liked listening to his CDs and would sometimes do stuff like play video-games with the rest of us, but he didn't put much time or effort into things other than training or missions. Once we started training to be part of the HIVE, Sam pretty much made it his life's mission to be the best."

That competitive side of you, along with your constant desire for self improvement is making a lot more sense.

"Did I-he play any instruments?" you ask.

"Like I said, no hobbies," Marissa answers. "Mom tried teaching you...err, him, whatever, to play the piano when we were kids, but that didn't go too well. Sam tried to play guitar after he started listening to King Crimson, too, but that didn't work either."

Great.

"Yep, you were boring alright," Marissa teases.

"So, a bunch of kids were the best agents in the HIVE?" you ask, finding that kind of hard to believe.

"Yeah, our team was the best overall, and we got picked for Blood's "big honor". Super powers, changing the world, the whole shebang," Marissa answers. "It sounded awesome."

It probably did. But, you're glad that you and her didn't see Blood's plans for you through. Simon, too. Heck, you and Simon made off with super powers and freedom from Blood. Not bad at all.

"No," you answer. "That's all. Thanks sis."

"I'll talk to you later," Marissa promises. "Goodbye."

The call ends, and you decide to take a break from family business for a little bit. By now, the girls have hopefully finished up their weight-lifting competition, and might be willing to go flying with you. Soaring through the fresh air is almost always an uplifting experience for you (aside from the times you're heading to or running from a battle), and having two good friends with you should make things even better.

Pocketing your communicator, you make your way back to the training room, actually arriving just in time to run into the girls as they exit the room, wiping their faces with towels and chatting with each other. Those two might compete a lot, but they never let it get mean, at least not when they're competing with each other.

You manage to get their attention, and ask if they'd like to go for a flight.

"Mmm, I could use a shower and something to eat, first," Donna tells you. "Starfire?"

"I, too, wish to perform the act of bathing and the consumption of food before going out flying," Starfire says in agreement with her.

"How about we just call you on the communicator when we're ready to go?" Donna suggests.

That should work. The girls tell you that they'll be seeing you soon, then go to hit the showers.

You probably have somewhere in the neighborhood of an hour to kill before they're ready to go. What will you do while you wait for them?

Since you have time, you might as well go and talk to Raven. You agreed to do something with her that she'd find fun (you still aren't sure what that would be), and she told you that the two of you would make plans. This seems like a good time to work all of that out with her.

You check her room first, knocking on the door and having it slide open after a few moments, revealing your friend. From her expression, it looks like she might have just woken up, but honestly, it can be kind of hard to tell with her. She's never really as sunshiny as some of the others on the team, no matter how much sleep she gets.

"Hey," she greets, stepping out of her room and letting the door slide shut behind her.

You return her greeting, then tell her that you wanted to know what sort of thing she wanted to do together.

"Hmm...we could spend an afternoon reading, or talk over some tea....we could play some chess, or watch some kind of movie. You seem to have better taste in those than Beast Boy, Cyborg, or Starfire, so I'm sure we could find something we'd both like. Or we could just spend some time meditating," she rattles off.

>A. "Anything you want, we're doing what you want to do."

>B. "That all sounds kind of boring, Rae. Come on, you got to have something fun you like to do."

Actually, no. I want this. This sounds like a very nice change to our whole routine. Training and pushing your limits is good, but so is relaxation.
>>

>>A. "Anything you want, we're doing what you want to do."
>>
>>2481713
"Anything you want," you tell her. "We're doing what you want to do."

Raven seems oddly taken aback by this, a somewhat vulnerable look on her face as she responds to what you've said.

"Well then....how about some tea, and I'll make sure to bring out the chess set in case we want to play a game," she decides in a particularly quiet voice.

You wonder if she's feeling alright. Raven's usually the quiet one, but this is a bit much, and she usually isn't all that bashful around her friends. Maybe she's not used to being asked to make these kinds of decisions or something? You know the girl isn't exactly an expert at social situations.

Whatever the case, she seems to return to her normal self once you agree to that. Maybe she was worried you wouldn't want to spend time with her when she made her decision?

"Anyway, we'll have to do that another day," she tells you. "Robin's got me working on something that needs to be finished sooner rather than later. I should get back to it."

>>
>>2481992

>>
>>2481992
Yeah, I think Peter, upon receiving the heartbreaking revelation that Samuel was kind of boring, should redouble his efforts to learn the piano, and then when he's mastered it, move on to the guitar.

Unrelated, I'm looking forward to the hang out with Raven. I kind of want it not to become a chess game, but recognize it might be useful as a sort of social crutch for Raven.

If I'm trying to get a read on Raven right now, she's half-dreading this hangout. She's not used to being socially in charge or the center of attention and Peter is kind of putting her on the spot here. But she likes Peter and is at least somewhat aware that she finds him attractive so on top of the usual 'have to control my emotions' bit, she's got also juggling worries about what Peter will think of her when she actually puts herself out there (whether as a friend or otherwise), and also has memories of how her last attempt at a relationship went in the back of her mind (it went dragon).

Regardless of whether anons have romantic intentions or not, I think the best move is to guide the conversation to her interests. I've previously theorized that she enjoys storytelling and media. Even if Peter doesn't know a lot, he could probably draw her out by asking her questions about what she's consumed, what she likes about it and why, as well as larger questions about why writing is the way it is. (btw this is a good IRL tip if you want to get to know someone. Ask them what they like and let them teach you. Listen carefully and ask good questions. People will tell you a lot about themselves through their passions.)
>>
>>2482182
Making some assumptions on how Raven feels about Peter, but most of what you posted is great.
>>
>>2482187
Thanks MoG.

I am making some assumptions, but I think they're fairly modest, and are supported by the quest so far. More over, it jives with my experiences as someone who was withdrawn as a teen. Moments like these are opportunities to connect with people, but there is an accompanying fear that you'll fuck it up, even if its just your brain messing with you.
>>
>>2482236
True, true
>>
>>2482242
Do the other Titans not ask what she wants to do often? Like do they usually take the lead when hanging out with her? I'm trying to place why she's that surprised.
>>
>>2482766
That's the impression I got.

They take the lead and she's content just hanging around like she usually does in other interactions. She's got people to play chess with sometimes (cy) but that doesn't mean she doesn't feel dislocated when it comes to interests.
>>
>>2482766
>>2483217
Pretty much this. While Cyborg and Starfire have made the effort to find something that Raven enjoys to do with her, most of the time it's a challenge just getting her to hang out at all.
>>
>>2483341
Jeez it almost seems like the rest of the team have kinda given up trying with her.
>>
>>2483625
I read it as a slightly less pessimistic version of that. They've done their best to get close to her, but it's difficult and pushing too hard results in getting rebuffed. The team loves and respects each other, having lived together and literally survived an apocolypse, but this is what works, and the Titans respect that distance, though perhaps a bit too studiously at times.

Peter has the advantage of being new and getting to know a version of Raven who is a bit more comfortable with other people than when those distances were first determined, and has been able to thread the needle in getting to know her, because of a sort of kinship due to their weird backgrounds and differing but compatible personalities (Pete is a bit of a chameleon, able to get in synch with others without quite losing what makes him distinct. We're playing him like he has empathy powers in some ways, even though we don't as of yet.)

Peter is indeed pushing into Raven's boundaries, and there is a risk of getting rebuffed, but I think if we just play him consistently, it'll be okay. He wants to hang out with Raven because he wants to hang out with her, hopefully get to know her better, and maybe make her happy (though it's important to remember that her happy is not going to look like other people's happy. If Pete wants that then what he is really doing is demanding a performance, and that's the opposite of what should be happening.)
>>
>>2483706
I didn't mean to imply that they don't care, as they clearly do. Just that they've found about the limit to pushing and getting rebuffed and just stayed there like you said. They do it out of respect but if you don't try pushing the limits once in awhile then nothing changes and the relationship stagnates.

I'm not saying there should be a big show of it, but maybe try to get her to be a bit more proactive with her friends than reactive. I do agree that it's a bit easier with Pete because he's definitely a chameleon but that's also because he doesn't even know what he is and will try just about anything once. I think that's why he's able to get close to her like this, she can't really get a read on him.
>>
>>2483857
Sorry, didn't intend to sound like I was putting words in your mouth, I tend to list out all my points even if the person I'm responding to agrees with me.

Also, Raven is an empath so I think that her read is that Peter is a sincere person. What's harder for her to read is what might change if they get to know each other better. I think there might be a 'oh no, what if I'm boring?' or 'what if in bad at this?' train of thought going on.
>>
>>2483879
There's definitely a fear of that. Raven often fears making herself vulnerable.
>>
>>2483879
Oh I didn't think you were, I just wanted to clarify. I have a difficult time putting what I mean into words. That's one thing I love about this quest is it's always so civil.

I think that they make a good counterbalance for each other. Pete tries to do new things all the time and push himself and when they hang out it's always more relaxing and contemplative.

Hello, good people of /qst/. This quest is, as is probably obvious from the OP pic, based on the Teen Titans animated series. You'll be taking the part of a young man and potential Titan, guiding him through his trials and tribulations.

"Yep, you're scheduled for tonight," Robin answers, looking at his laptop.

So, there it is. Your evening and early morning will be spent patrolling the city, looking out for criminals, super villains, and various other ne'er do wells, making sure the city remains safe. It's going to be a long night, but hopefully not a bad one. Typically you spent most of these patrols shooting the breeze with a friend and occasionally stopping a mugging or something of the like.

Lately, you've been thinking about how you've spent very little one-on-one time with your team's leader, and a night on patrol might just be the perfect opportunity. The two of you have already established a mutual respect and at least a certain degree of trust, so there should be no real problems on that front. Part of you is hoping to use this as an opportunity to get to know your team-mate better over the course of the evening.

"No, I should be free," Robin answers. "So you want me to come out on patrol with you?"

"Yes," you answer.

"Alright, I'm in," he agrees. "If you don't mind, though, could you leave me alone until then? If I'm going to be out tonight, I've got a lot of work that needs to get done."

Once again, you leave Robin alone in his room behind the computer.

Donna and Starfire will hopefully be ready to go soon. Before you go flying through the skies with the two ladies, however, you want something to eat. Between the work-out you've already had, and the exercise you're sure to get in trying to keep up with the likes of Starfire and Troia, you really need to eat. So, with your affairs settled with Raven and Robin, you see no reason not to go and get some food in your belly.

You find the common room empty as you step into it. Glad you won't have any competition for use of the kitchen, you set to making yourself a large sandwich with just about everything on it. It's no Cyburger, but it's tasty and filling.

You take a seat and set to devouring your delicious creation, making it in a few bites before you feel someone tug on your shirt. At first thinking it's Silkie coming to beg, you instead look down to see a little girl with blue eyes, blonde-hair tied in pigtails, a pink cape, and a white shirt with the letter "M" on it.

Standing behind her are an even younger, red-haired, blanket-carrying boy with a frown on his face, and an even younger blonde-haired boy who looks barely old enough to walk, even still having a binky in his mouth.

"Is Raven home?" the little girl asks innocently.

"Hello," you say to the children. "I'm Kid Crimson."

"Hi," the little girl replies. "I'm Melvin. This is Timmy...."

She points to the little red-haired boy, who gives a little sniffle, but doesn't actually say anything to you. He holds his blanket close, and looks generally uncomfortable for some reason. Maybe he's afraid of strangers or something? Or he could just need a nap. He seems to be about that age.

"And this is Teether," Melvin says, pointing to the infant, you waves at you and smiles behind his pacifier.

"Nice to meet you," you say to them.

If these kids walked right into the tower and asked for Raven by name, they're probably no ordinary children. That cape Melvin's wearing might not just be a kid's costume, she could really have powers. You aren't sure what these kids can do, but the idea of young children with powers is somewhat worrying to you.

Oh well, these kids seem harmless enough.

"I'll call Raven for you," you tell the trio, pulling out your communicator and contacting your friend.

"What is it, Peter?" Raven asks as her face appears on your screen.

"You have visitors," you explain. "Melvin, Timmy, and Teether?"

Raven's eyes widen with recognition. "They're here today? I thought that was....tell them I'll be right out."

You relay the message as you put your communicator into your pocket, sitting and waiting with the kids for the next minute or so until the doors slide open and Raven briskly walks into the living room.

"Raven!" the three children shout at once, rushing over to the girl.

Raven and small children is not a combination you would think would yield any positive results, but your friend actually looks happy to see these kids. She kneels down and pulls them into a group hug, actually smiling after.

"Sorry, I forgot you were visiting today," Raven tells them.

"Y-you forgot about us?" Timmy sniffles, sounding like he's about to cry.

"No, nothing like that," Raven assures him, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Things have just been so hectic around here, and I sort of lost track. Come on, I'll make you some lunch. Peanut Butter sandwiches okay?"

"Yeah!" Melvin and Timmy shout together, while Teether silently raises his fist.

Raven gets up and makes her way to the kitchen, getting to work making the kids some food.

"So, how do you know each other?" you ask the children as they begin to make their way toward the table.

"Raven saved us from the monkey man," Timmy tells you as he hops up and pulls himself onto one of the sit-stools.

"Monkey man?" you ask, looking to Raven for an explanation.

"The Brotherhood of evil sent an intelligent gorilla named Mallah to capture the three of them," she explains. "I was sent to take them to safety."

An intelligent gorilla? That really shouldn't surprise you, but still, it sounds really odd. You wonder how fighting him would have been different from fighting Beast Boy as a gorilla. Since this other gorilla was willing to go after children, you're guessing you'd feel a lot less bad about hitting him.

"Raven saved us," Melvin tells you. "Then Bobby saved her."

"Bobby?" you repeat.

"He's my friend," Melvin tells you with a smile.

You look to Raven for an explanation, but she just sort of rolls her eyes with a barely visible smile on her face.

"I'll explain that one later," she tells you as she finishes making the sandwiches, which she places in front of the children. "Eat up, kids."

Teether digs in with greater voracity than you see out of Cyborg on most days, while Timmy studies his own sandwich, specifically the crust (or rather, lackthereof) before taking a bite. He smiles for a second and continues digging in. Melvin takes a bite, then looks to Raven.

"Raven, can you make one for Bobby, too?" she requests.

"Is Bobby outside?" Raven asks, already grabbing two pieces of bread.

"Uh huh," Melvin confirms before taking another bite.

"Sure, I'll bring it out to him," Raven tells her as she sets to work.

This is all pretty odd. Raven not only doesn't seem at all bothered by dealing with these children, but her voice is honestly far more pleasant than normal, and she seems to be in a really good mood. She acts almost motherly with these children, or at least like a big sister.

It's an unexpected side of Raven, but a nice one.

"Mind looking after the kids for a couple of minutes while I bring Bobby his lunch?" Raven asks.

>A. "No problem."

"No problem," you tell Raven, allowing her to take the sandwich to this mysterious "Bobby" while you hang out with the children and keep an eye on them, which seems like it will essentially boil down to making sure they don't choke on their food.

Raven heads for the elevator, and you stay in your seat, taking another bite of your sandwich. A silence hangs over the room once your friend is gone. Well, okay, maybe silence isn't right. There's plenty of sound, courtesy of the children scarfing down their food. Your own sandwich is soon gone, disappeared into the confines of your stomach.

"I like your cape," you tell Melvin.

"Thanks," she answers before taking another bite of her sandwich.

The doors to the room open, allowing Starfire and Troia to walk in, the former lighting up more than usual upon seeing the children.

"Oh, hello Raven's adorable friends!" she loudly addresses them, flying to the kitchen area and proceeding to fuss over the little children.

Melvin greets her with a smile and a friendly "hello", while Timmy and Teether seem to just back in the attention the sunny redhead is giving them. It looks like Raven didn't really need to leave you in charge after all.

Raven soon returns and takes a seat with the kids while Donna makes herself some lunch (the amazon has to drag Starfire away from the kids and force her to make herself something to eat).

After about fifteen pleasant minutes, Donna rises from the table.

You and your friends head up to the roof, lifting into the breezy air and flying away from the tower.

We will go out on patrol, I don't wanna use up our jetfuel just yet.

Unless it's early enough in the day that we could eat and rest until patrol, in which case:

Wouldn't a race eat up our jetfuel as much as a game of tag?

Also, Robin can't fly, so we'll probably ride on his bike (in Sidecar Crimson?).
>>
>>2486999
Racing is just flight plus will, which Pete handles well.

Tag could involve TPing and other powers if it comes to.

>Ride the bike
If we are too tired to properly use our powers, then it won't matter how we got there really.
All our powers take from the same stamina pool, so it's not like we would only lose mobility.

Anyway, I'm for it if we have time to rest.
>>
>>2487003
I figure its early enough. Donna and Starfire had breakfast and showered before this.
>>
>>2486969
"Hey, how about we play a tag?" you suggest.

"Oh, that sounds wonderful!" Starfire tells you.

"Alright, I'm in," Donna tells you. "Hope you can keep up, Peter, I'd feel bad if Star and I left you in the dust all day."

So would you, but with your new understanding of your powers, maybe that won't be what happens. These two, especially Donna, may be in for one major surprise, and you can't wait to see the look on their faces when you find out just what you can do with these powers of yours.

You've held Donna before, it'll be fun to see if you can out-speed her, too.

>To be continued

And that's it for tonight, all. I hope you all had a good time, and thank you all for playing. We might be playing tomorrow or Friday, I'll let you know when I know.

Huh, Raven is crushing right now
>>
>>2488796
Like an anon said, Waifuism is situational, specially when there's multiple good girls. Explains the Rose -> Donna -> Raven swing.

It might balance out as girls get more scenes, and if the choice is made after all the girls had recent 'memorable moments' then I'm sure it'll end up more even.
>>
>>2488796
What surprises me is that Raven has not actually had any really good interaction scenes with Pete. While the Raven and kids scene is fun, and the pool scene was good set up, neither is really about them interacting. Could the swing be due to the mere hype of hang outs?

We'll see. Since I'm on Team Raven, I'm certainly not going to complain.
>>
>>2488844
*had any really good interaction scenes with Pete LATELY
>>
>>2488844
I think it's more the hype for hanging out with her. Raven has been the topic of discussion between posts lately largely because of it. Anytime there's some dedicated one on one time the person usually pulls ahead in the polls.
>>
>>2488930
True
>>
>>2488930
I know. I'm just surprised by the degree of change, given that its anticipation of an interaction rather than the interaction itself.
>>
>>2489031
Isn't this our first one on one with Raven that's just a social call? Every other time I can think of it was help with powers or working on a lead.
>>
>>2489153
We've had small moments, like bringing her lunch after she helped save Peter from brain invasion, but yeah, and they've played chess in the common area, so yes, I believe this will be the first time Peter and Raven hang out for no reason other than for the pleasure of each other's company.
>>
>>2489156
I guess so.
>>
>>2489174
I don't mean to suggest that its a problem or a mistake, just a fairly natural consequence due to the mindsets of the characters and the trajectory of the story. If anything, this coming hang out is more interesting because the characters recognize where they are at.
>>
>>2489194
But what will you talk to Raven about?
>>
>>2489211
We've covered this: Get her to talk about her interests, listen and ask good questions.
>>
>>2489231
This. Though I could see Pete just enjoying some tea with her in silence
>>
>>2489567
I could too, and that's valuable, but we've also done that via meditation or just watching the pool fight, so I'd prefer to focus on the unique opportunity. It remains a good fall back though.

Or maybe we'll be completely caught off guard as Raven ends up being a motor mouth in private.
>>
>>2489231
I wonder what kinds of topics she likes. Will it be high brow intelectual discussion? Nerdy stuff? Just general topics about her interests but at a relaxed pace?
>>
>>2489856
I don't see her as being especially knowledgeable about nerdy stuff. She'd know of it having lived on Earth for a while now and absorbed it second hand via tv, but I don't know how into it she would get as a result of that.
>>
Unrelated but did we test the effects of stimulus on emotions? Like music, low frequency sounds, or other such potential triggers.

Game T.O Morrow?
>>
>>2503175
By process of elimination, yes, probably.

It feels like its been a bit, but also not bad. Lets take stock of what's going on:

After a really shitty day in which the Titans had to deal with a jailbreak, Snowflame, Bane, and Psimon, things have been quiet. We had a pool party, it was cool.

Today we've learned a bit about our past thanks to Robin and Marissa, made future plans with Raven and met with Melvin and co.

We are currently going to have a game of tag with Starfire and Donna, which we plan to kick ass in via willpower, slides and maybe a few teleports. We also plan on calling our mother at some point to get more info, and we have Night Patrol with Robin. Our primary concern is if we have a Sidecar Crimson.

Seems like a good summary of events.
